Speaker 1 (00:00):
Worst day of the week for commute traffic. It has
evolved into that primarily because of the pandemic. It used
to be Monday was the worst day and Friday wasn't
far behind it. When the pandemic arrived and folks began
working out home, that changed a lot of the traffic patterns.

(00:21):
I can't tell you the number of people who, once
the pandemic had for the most part asked said things like,
you know kind of missed the pandemics. What are you
talking about? Well, like, I kind of missed not being
you know, caught up in traffic somewhere. Some people like

(00:44):
Sally said that. But coming out of the pandemic, a
lot of folks at least for a long while afterwards,
because by the time we were coming out of the
pandemic in twenty twenty one, folks began working three day
weeks or still working from home, or at least working
on Mondays at home, or at least working on Fridays
at home. So Tuesday became became the big load in

(01:08):
day when you would have a great deal of traffic.
That was that was the thing when it be And
sure enough, this morning I needed to run down to
UFCU dish Folk Field. After the long Worn's final baseball
game of the season that Sunday night game in the
regional loss to UTSA, I was able to load out

(01:31):
most of the things out of the broadcast booth, most
most of the equipment out of there, but there were
a few items left in there and in one case,
and I needed to get them, and I didn't have
the right day matching up with the people I needed
a visit with who could make sure that I could
get into the ballpark and get into the booth for

(01:52):
a while. So finally it was settled on. It was
going to be yesterday and then became no, it'll be today, Okay, fine,
And I wanted to get it done before going out
of town. So so it's about, you know whatever, three
weeks after the season ended. But I leave the house
at to meet people down there at the appointed time.

(02:16):
And when I pulled out of where I live on
the far northern edge of Georgetown, it's right near where
Till One spills out to their tie thirty five. And
if you're coming from the north and you're going south
where Branch is off, you can take it to go
that way. And that was going to be the quickest way.
I figured because a lot of times, as people who
live in Williamson County know, if you're going I thirty

(02:38):
five down through ground Rock, you're asking for a pack
of trouble. It's just slow, and it's sluggish, especially on
a Tuesday. So I go to get out and I'm
over in the left lane, get ready to go, and
all of a sudden, I look and I see the
on ramp lane is absolutely blocked off by highway patrol
and I could see why. Up on the flyover there's
been a major accident. Hopefully nobody went over the flower,

(03:01):
and I don't think anybody did, but there was wreck.
So I had to veer back onto the service road
and it was a crawl getting on I thirty five.
And then I saw the other reason why, And it
happens quite frequently in Round Rock. There was a big
wreck in uh in the Round Rock nothing, I want
to say. It was near where most of them seemed
to be, right right around Fambass Highway seventy nine. That

(03:26):
area went and crosses. So anyway, it all slows down,
but I'm always reminded of that that there that the
worst day of the week. What has become the worst
commuting day of the week is Tuesday, So just exercise
a little caution and careful. You live down south, right, Yeah,
it took me over an hour to get to work.

(03:46):
There was a really h yeah, and then I looked
at my maps is I think two crashes and then
there was a there was a way where I can
go get off Slaughter and then go that way. But
then yeah, as I'm in towards the end, it just
opens up. What are we doing? Yeah, it took over
an hour. Wow. Yeah, yeah, because you lived down in

(04:07):
Hayes County, right, Yeah, I'm in Hayes County, YEP. Okay,
So anyway, be careful out there if you're driving. That
was my whole point of this, all right. Aaron Rodgers
said just a little while ago, you know, he does
that Pat mcabee show. He's on with him every Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
And.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
He said, and this was his quote about whether this
last year. Now he's with the Steelers, and he was
asked if this is going to be his last year,
the quote was, I'm pretty sure this is it. That's
why we just did a one year deal. The Steelers
didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything.
This was really just about finishing with a lot of

(04:49):
love and fun and peace. For the career that I've had.
It's been a long run and I've enjoyed it. What
better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone
franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great
group of leader ship. Great guy. He's in the city
that expects you to win. Okay, he's a Northern California guy.
You're a Northern California guy. Did you like he ever
liked Aaron Rodgers. I've never met him personally.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I I've seen him interact with others and it's it's
not the nicest interactions. I would say, Uh, but when
you when you say that quote, just my eyes roll.
It's just, you know, with Aaron, it's all about him,
and it's it's a weird dynamic he has with Cal
because he's never really claimed Cal as his you know

(05:33):
quote college.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Right, but he started off junior college, did Yeah, he.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Started off in the junior college up in like north
North California and then went to went to Cal and
then he's always had that grudge with the Niners there,
you know, with that quote, they're going to be sorry
they picked me. So I don't think he's the biggest
Northern California fan. I know he does the golf tournament
in Tahoe almost every year or something like that, and

(05:58):
the stories that come out are just, you know, eye
opening but not surprising.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
My favorite Aaron Rodgers' moment has nothing to do with
his time in the NFL. It was when he was
with Cal and that senior year of four and there
was that debate at the end of the year whether
Texas or Cal deserved to go to the Rose Bowl,
and Texas, by whatever it was a few thousands of
a point or hundreds of a point, whatever, wound up

(06:24):
in the BCS standings getting to go to its first
ever Rose bull And he was playing for Cal and
he was very outspoken and was critical of Mac Bround
for campaigning for his team. Mack laughed when they said,
he goes why wouldn't I campaign for my team? Moment
campaigning for his team. Whatever. So what happens is Texas

(06:48):
goes to the Rose Bowl for the first time, has
this incredibly memorable game with Michigan. They win on a
Dusty Mangham field goal in the final play of the
game thirty eight thirty seven, great great game from starting
to finish, incredible environment, Coach Royal for Texas coach Schim Beckler.
The two retired great coaches go out to midfield for
the toss of the coin. What was weird as they

(07:10):
had Mickey Mouse and his big balls that they're actually
his big hands flipping the coin. But he had Coach
Royal and he had Coach Chim Beckler. It was this
marvelous game, and Vince Young set the stage for what
would happen the next year with the incredible performance against
usc which I think in some way, when you compare

(07:31):
the numbers, what he did against Michigan might even have
been even a little more impressive. But that's splitting hairs.
He was great in both games. Texas wins the game,
oh and Aaron Rodgers. They went down to the Holiday
Bowl played Texas Tech, a Texas Tech team that Texas
beat by thirty in Lubbock during the year, and they
lost by two touchdowns to Texas Tech. So there's always

(07:57):
a little bit of satisfaction when it comes to that,
all right, we need a break when we come back.
We've got inconceivable and like I said, we're going to
get into some more of the NBA stuff coming up
as well, so we'll do that when we continue on
thirteen under the Zone
