Speaker 1 (00:00):
From Houndos, Puppy Uppers and Doggie Downers. Yeah, at his
old school Saturday Night Live, because that was the late
Gilda Radner and Anne Lorraine Newman on that. But that's
what I was referring to for those who didn't remember
the puppy Uppers and Doggie Downers. Kind of a downer
for Michigan. What has come down? Michigan received a draft
(00:28):
notice of allegations from the NCAA on Sunday, and it
included a level two charge against head coach Sharon Moore,
according to two sources briefed on this investigation. Now ESPN
first reported that More faced potential penalties for allegedly deleting
text messages that he exchanged with Connor Stallions. He's the
(00:49):
former staff member accused of coordinating a scheme to collect
video footage of opponent's signals. The messages were recovered and
provided to the NCAA. That's one of the things I
think that's really interesting about this is that those text
messages were deleted and then they were able to recover them.
(01:10):
So if you think that just cause you delete a text,
it's gone forever, maybe not. If you've never heard of
the term device imaging that might be able to recover
a text message that you think is that has been
deleted and is no longer around device imaging. This draft
(01:36):
also contains a level one charge against Connor Stallions, as
well as former head coach Jim Harball, former linebackers coach
Chris Partridge, former recruiting stafford Denard Robinson. Stallions had resigned
right after news of the scandal broke. He has not
cooperated with the investigation. He has not spoken publicly about
(01:58):
his role, and by the way, Ittallions is set to
appear in the Netflix documentary that premiers later this month. Harball,
of course, is now the coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
He's accused of not cooperating with the investigation by not
providing emails and messages from a personal device due to
a disagreement over the scope of the NCAA's request. So
(02:24):
Harball did not agree that the NCAAA needed to do
as deep a dive as they were doing, going to
the extent that they were, to the levels that they
were to investigate this, so as a result of that,
he refused to turn over messages on that Partridge was
fired in November. He was accused of interfering with the
(02:44):
investigation by discussing and with players. Robinson may remember him
he'd been a quarterback at Michigan. He left the program
after a drunk driving arrest in April. The draft notice
also alleged minor recruiting violations involving former assistance Jesse Minter
and Steve Clinkscale. Michigan said through a spokesman the statement
(03:08):
was quote, our athletic department in the university continue to
cooperate with the NCAA regarding our ongoing investigation. We do
not have an update to share regarding its status at
this time. Of course, Michigan already is under three years
of NCAA approbation for a separate case involving in permissible
contact with recruits during the COVID nineteen debt period and
(03:29):
other infractions. Sean Moore served a one game suspension last
year as part of a negotiated resolution to settle his
portion of that case, and Michigan could face further penalties
as an institution if the NCAA finds that these new
(03:50):
allegations constitute a pattern of non compliance. That's the thing
that's going to get you hung out to dry, quicker
in anything, the failure to monitor non compliance those types
of things. The NCAA takes a dim view of that.
The draft notice also outlines charges that the NCAA intends
(04:13):
to pursue, and it provides an opportunity for the parties
to negotiate a resolution. A postseason ban is not off
the table based on the allegations contained in the draft,
according to the first source, but it is possible that
the case could be resolved with lesser penalties, so it
sounds kind of serious in the reports. Have read both
(04:36):
from ESPN and from the Athletic that this could indeed
involve the head coach, Sewan Moore. And you should know
this too because we saw this with Jim Harball with
the suspension that he had. But when coaches and or
players receive punishment from the NCAA that includes suspension of
(05:05):
one or two or whatever three games or even more
than that, but enough to fall within one season. Usually
when that happens, the punishment is front loaded. They'll thrown
on the front end because first of all, it's non
conference games. Now it's a pretty big non conference game
in September seven. I think we can all agree on that.
(05:28):
But it's still a non conference game. So if there's
one or two or more of a penalty, whether it
be against run More or any of anybody else connected
with the program, it is possible it could be front
loaded on the front end of that. But it's this
is going to be interesting to follow, just to see
how far this goes, and if an indeed does go,
(05:54):
you know extensively, why during the month of August, and
that there's some sort of resolution that comes out either
through NCAA findings or through a negotiated resolution slash settlement
with the university and the Michigan athletic program, in specific
the football program. All Right, we'll be back to wrap
(06:14):
up our number two here on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone in the iHeartRadio app.
