Speaker 1 (00:00):
As I mentioned, Cole Dixon is a producer Today, Camera
Parker's out today. Oklahoma City had his championship parade today.
Coincidence ca I'm not here championship parade. I told him
to celebrate accordingly and however that may seem fit to Cam.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
So I hope he's having fun.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I don't think he made the parade, although I asked him,
I kind of urged him, so I said, dude, you
got to roll up there.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
He said he didn't.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
He didn't commit to it, and I know that surprises you.
But anyway, they had their championship parade today. NBA drafters tomorrow,
and in advance of the draft, a couple of trades
have happened. First of all, the one that happened last night,
(00:55):
the Celtics traded Drew Holliday to Portland, and so you
got a veteran point guard going to the Blazers, and
in return, the Celtics picked up a young scoring guard
and Anfrety Simons and a pair of second round draft picks. Now,
(01:16):
I brought this up yesterday with Matt Thomas, the play
by play voice of the Houston Rockets, and and and
when I when I brought it up.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yesterday we were talking about the Kevin Durant deal.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
And as we were as we were talking about the
Durant deal, remember all the things that Kevin uh was
traded for. So Durant goes from Phoenix to Houston, and
(01:54):
Houston in return swaps out Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks, the
number ten pick in tomorrow night's draft, number ten overall pick,
and five future second round picks to Phoenix. Now that
(02:14):
may seem like an awful lot, but I've heard multiple
people say this, including Matt Thomas yesterday, and I think
there have been other guys as well that have said
it with the national networks that the second round picks
(02:38):
it's more quantity than quality.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Really.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I mean, there have been some second round picks that
have made a major impact, have been really really big
over the years, but more often than not, the second
round picks either float between being on an NBA roster and.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Playing in the CHI League, or they don't make it
at all.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
So the five second round picks, it's less about those
five second round picks, I think.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
I think that was a toss.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
In as opposed to Jalen Green and Dylan Brooks and
the Rockets also didn't have to give up a great
deal of their depth involved.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
With this, so.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
It's looked at as being a pretty certainly a good
trade for the Rockets and maybe also a good enough
trade for the Suns. Meanwhile, today this came down. The
Pelicans are trading And I mentioned c J McCollum earlier
when we were reading through what teams were made up
of that was written this morning. But this afternoon the
(03:45):
Pelicans have traded c J. McCollum and also center Kelly
olynnok and a future here wait for it, second round
pick to the Wizards in exchange for guard Jordan Poole,
wing player Sadiq Bay and the fortieth overall pick. The
fortieth overall pick, you guessed it, it's in the second round. Uh,
(04:07):
so that'll be coming up in the in the second
round on the draft. So anyway, that's that's kind of
that's kind of where that's going to be for the
draft that will take place on Thursday night. So and
and it's and and by the way, it's Thursday night.
(04:30):
Uh excuse me, tomorrow night and Thursday night is the
way it's going to be. Tomorrow night and Thursday night.
What I was referring to about that second round pick
that would happened on Thursday. That comes down, of course,
the draft is itself is tomorrowt Barslay Center, and we're
going to get a final, you know, preview of all
of that tomorrow. But the Rockets have traded that pick.
And it's funny when you look at it on the
(04:54):
like NBA website, they listed differently than say, if you
were to look at at the Athletic or ESPN or
CBS or any of the other drafts or you might
say major sports websites. And what I mean by that is,
like I just read from a piece that talked about
(05:19):
the details of this CJ. McCollum trade, and it mentioned
the draft picks. If you go to the NBA site,
they'll mention what they say are reportedly the pick, and
then when you look at the draft order at number ten,
it'll say Houston Rockets reportedly traded to Phoenix. Yeah, it's
(05:45):
been reported, we know it's happened. But the NBA, unlike
any of the other pro sports leagues, operates so differently
with that, with the way contracts are written, with how
their quote unquote calendar year begin that they go through
this little charade, this song and dance every year where
(06:07):
somebody somebody's name is calling the draft and they walk
to the stage and they shake hands with Adam Silver,
the commissioner. Of course, you know in the NFL, it's
become very fashionable for the first round picks to just
like bear hug Roger Goodell. I always think that the
(06:28):
commissioner probably walks away from that into that first day bruised,
you know, because there's so many big, big bear hugs
that happened. But the NBA draft choice walks up on
the stage, he shakes hands with the commissioner, he holds
up a jersey, he puts on the hat, and everyone
(06:50):
in the free world knows that's not where he's gonna play,
which I just think is silly for a multi billion
dollar organization like the NBA to go through that song
and dance. And you said, well, that's because of how
I know, I know the rule, I know exactly how
it's all set up.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
I still think it's silly.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I think there's there should be able to be a
workaround to where if you make a deal prior to that,
you make a deal and you can announce it and
say with the tenth pick the Phoenix Sons, or you
can step up and say the Houston Rockets have traded
the tenth pick in the NBA draft of the Phoenix
Sons with the tenth pick in the twenty twenty five
(07:31):
NBA Draft. The Phoenix Sons select YadA, YadA, instead of
the Houston Rockets, who select the thing and forever and ever.
That guy is up there holding up a jersey of
a team he'll never play for. Like I said, you
can google it. Look up Kobe Bryant with Charlotte Hornet's gear.
You can see it. I think Scottie Pippen might head
(07:55):
Seattle had a Seattle jersey or another team anyway, when
he came out. It might not have been a Bull's uniform.
The Bulls had a couple of picks, and I know
one of them they had to wait on. But that's
happened throughout the course.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Of the year. It was Seattle supersonically, I thought I was,
and I thought it was what was that the year?
On that eighty seven? Eighty seven? Yeah, okay, wow, my
memory hasn't completely failed me on that. Okay, that's good.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I just remember that, and I just remember him stepping
up in the Sonics, and they said in all the
draft analysts are saying, well, he's likely not going to
be with Seattle, this is going to be traded to Chicago.
And I remember thinking then, because I was a couple
of years out of college, I remember thinking that.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Why can they just do the deal and announce the deal?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
And they always say it's because of contracts, and you know,
certain things that happened the way that so anyway that'll
be the case. There'll be that song and dance tomorrow.
If you're a fan of a certain team, be it
(09:05):
college or pro. And I'm not just talking about the
NBA draft, I'm also you know, whether it's NFL draft,
even baseball or NHL draft, but especially the pro football
in the NBA drafts, which are a great deal more celebrated, certainly,
(09:28):
you quite often remember if you were a fan of
a certain team, where you were when a player who
you hope would make a major impact is taken. You
kind of remember where you were at the time when
it happened. And I'll always remember when LaMarcus Aldridge was drafted.
(09:55):
And of course Marcus played at Texas and he was
a great young man to get to know and all this,
and he's played out an entire career, has had himself
a tremendous career and now retired. And I got a
chance to see him when he came in for a
Texas game last year. But when he was drafted again,
(10:16):
it was another deal where he was drafted by a
team that was not going to keep him.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I think it might have been the Bulls.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I can't remember exactly, but when he was drafted on
draft night, I remember where I was.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Believe it or not, what was it? The Bulls?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
It was the Bulls. Yeah, yeah, yeah, second overall pick yep.
And I remember where I was that night in two
thousand and six. I was on top of a mountain
in Virginia. I was technically I was in the Grayson
Highland State Park, which is in the Mount Rogers National
(10:54):
Recreation Areas in far southwestern Virginia, down where the point
the tip of Virginia kind of borders Kentucky and Tennessee
and all.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
That and and and uh in North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Anyway, it's all down there, and I'd taken my two
sons up there for a couple of days of camping
and hike. We we went hiking on the Appalachian Trail
and we were camping up there. However, when I was
driving up there into the mountains and i'd get into
the state parking get I had like satellite radio on
(11:32):
so I could listen to the NBA draft, and it
was popping in and out and popping in up.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
But when I got.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Near the ridge in the park right where our campsite was,
it came in clear as a bell, and I heard
that the Chicago Bulls had drafted LaMarcus Alders, and I
was like, really, he's going to be traded so to Portland.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
So they knew that was coming.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
But that's kind of one of those deals where you
kind of remember where you were at the time that
it happened, especially if you're in a unique environment. All Right,
we have more coming up. Get to more of your
questions as well. We'll continue on thirteen under the zone
