Speaker 1 (00:00):
Uh, no time really to kill. Is a lot going
on this week here with the Texas log Worns athletically,
and that includes lineman Jake Majors, the anchor of that
offense in front in the center, the log Horns center
visiting with the medium.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hey Jake, how similar or different is the Ohio State's
defensive front to Georgia?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Good question.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I would just say that the very big upfront, you know,
they kind of replicate sec front, very talented linebackers, very
sound secondary. So for us, you know, it's you know,
we just got to own our game plan and trust
our techniques to put us in the right position against

(00:51):
these guys.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Hey, Jake, his game everything.

Speaker 5 (00:56):
It means being you know, half hour or so from
all the guys in DFW. For you personally, what's the
best part about playing this game so close to home?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah, like you said, just playing close to home. I
grew up in Prosper which is about an hour away
from Arlington, So to know that, you know, it'll be
an easy transition for my parents and my girlfriend's family
and stuff like that. It means a lot, you know,
close for my extended family to come from West Texas.

(01:29):
So I'm just excited to be able to stay in
the great state of Texas and play a football game
at and T Stadium. I'm a Cowboys fan, so means
a lot more to me because I you know, I'm
a big Cowboys fan.

Speaker 6 (01:46):
So hey, Jake, just given where the program was when
you first arrived to where it is now, is there
a sense of pride that you are leaving a program
in much better shape than what you founded?

Speaker 7 (02:00):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah, I'm just I'm happy to be a part of it.

Speaker 7 (02:03):
Man.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
You know, when I first committed to UT I've said
this a good bit and I'll say it again. My
commitment wasn't just you know, for my personal wellbeing. It
was to bring Texas back to where it belonged, you know,
in the early two thousands. So to say that I've
been a part of this journey for Texas has been
a true blessing. All glory to God for being here,

(02:27):
being this in this exact moment, getting ready to prayer
for a historic game like the Cotton Bowl. And you know,
all credits to coach sark as well, because without him,
he wouldn't have set the blueprint, you know, the foundation
for this program.

Speaker 8 (02:43):
Jake. Obviously you guys on offense have really jumped out
the fast starts, you know, against Clemson and again Arizona State.
How much do you need that same sense of urgency?
You know, given how Ohio State is playing loose in
conf scoring a ton of points.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
I think everybody's objective is to come out swinging and
come out fast and have a hot start. Well, like
you said, it's very important my hot state's playing really
good football right now, and you know, if we want
a chance, we got to match that and exceed that.
So we gotta put our best foot forward and come
out swinging and you know, come out fast.

Speaker 9 (03:26):
Hey, Jake, just real quick, I wanted to ask about
fourth and thirteen gainst Arizona State, when those guys were
creeping to the line. How much of that was did
you see? Or was that was that all Quinn seeing that?
Or what's your dvantage point and take.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
On that whole play? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:43):
For me, you know, it was easy for me to
see and I was I was about ready to turn
around and tell Quinn hold up, but he saw it
just in time. You know, total experience, veteran play from Quinn.
Just know, recognize all the the tips and traits of

(04:03):
cover zero blitz and they get us in the right
protection to be able to convert on that fourth down.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Big so from your football mind, and when you look
at the Ohio State defense, is there anything that they're
that they do that you guys have to adjust for
in this week of practice or is it a standard
they're coming at you with the bulls? Are they Are
they going to throw anything at you that scheme at
you that you haven't seen before.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, that's a good question. I'd say that, you know,
they have a very unique style of defense and like
everybody we've played this year, they're really good at what
they do. And so for us, it's just recognize recognizing tendencies.
You know what blitz is, match with what coverage, and
then just to know, you know what, what are we

(04:54):
going to do to match that. But like you said,
they have their defenses who they are, and so we
just got to prepare the right way to match it.

Speaker 9 (05:05):
We're gonna get a couple three more in for you here,
first from Jeff Jones.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Go ahead, Jeff and Jake.

Speaker 10 (05:13):
I'm just wondering what gives you confidence that the run
game is going to look more like what we saw
against Clemson than what we've seen in some other recent
games against you know, Georgia and Arizona State.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Yeah, I would just say that we we as an offense,
you know, the running back room, the tight end room,
the o line room, we know what we're capable of,
and you know, what we put on film is not
our best and so we kind of have a chip
on our shoulder with that, and we understand that there
are high expectations that we got to meet those expectations.

(05:48):
You know, we were frustrated, but at the end of
the day, we were able to win, but what we
did wasn't good enough to our standard. So everybody kind
of you know that next day we kind of walking
around with a chip on our shoulder, you know, ready
to get back to work and get this run game going.

Speaker 11 (06:06):
Yeah, Jake, I know you talk about Ohio State defensively
a minute ago, but you faced Jim Knowles DC when
he was at Oklahoma State in twenty one. I know
it's been a minute since that game, but is there
anything that you go back to from that study that
looks similar to what Ohio State's doing now or is
it just you know, is it pretty drastically different from
what you remember.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I think there are some similarities from what I can remember.
I mean, like you said, it's been a while, but
to me, it's just a completely new defense just just
because of his personnel and you know, the type of
players he has at Ohio State and so that allows
him to play call it differently and stuff like that.

(06:50):
And for us, it's all about recognizing, you know, what's
in front of us and then executing at a high level.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Hey, Jake, I appreciate the time.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Coach Sark has kind of let us in on it
the last couple of weeks, you know, with the fourth
and thirteen, and I guess audibl into a couple of
runs for Jayden Blue that ended in touchdowns on Quinn's
part against Clemson.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I guess I'm just curious.

Speaker 7 (07:17):
What I'm asking is how much does Quinn do that
we can't see because we know about it when we're
let in on it. But I'm just interested in your
perspective on that.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Yeah, there's a lot that Quinn does where that's you know,
audibling routes, protections, stuff like that. There's been a lot
of plays that go unnotice where he's getting us into
a slide that ended up picking up a boundary blitz.
I got us a first down that nobody talks about.
So stuff like that you guys may never see. It
may seem like a routine play, but to us, that's

(07:48):
Quinn doing his job, being a veteran quarterback and leading
this team by executing at a high level. So, like
you said, you know there's runs against Clemson and protections
against Arizona State. Those are just some things of Quinn
that you know, really stick out when it comes to
recognizing the defense and putting this offense into the best scenario.

Speaker 9 (08:10):
Jake, all time favorite cowboy and who are the NFL
centers you like to watch play?

Speaker 4 (08:17):
I love this question.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
This is awesome.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Okay, all time favorite Cowboys. So I grew up in
the Tony Romo era, so that's kind of my all
time favorite. Tony Romo, Travis Frederick one of my favorite
centers of all time. Also Dak Prescott from his rookie year.
You know, he got hurt, which sucks, but those are
kind of my top Cowboys. Des Bryant honorable mention, just

(08:42):
because he was one of the best receivers during that time.
I was watching him and Sinners, you know, playing right
now that I really like watching, probably Cam Jurgens for
the Eagles. I just love the way he pools. I
love his mentality and everything that he does. Who else,

(09:02):
it's my favorite, uh Tyler Biades with the Commanders, who
just love the way he plays. And the other on
would be Creed Humphrey. You know, he's the only other lefty,
probably the only lefty in the NFL right now, which
you know there's not many of us, but as a
lefty you can appreciate someone like that who's playing at
a high level.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Great answers from Jake Major's about that, all right. We'll
be back to wrap up our number two on AM
thirteen under the Zone
