Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to Friday. Welcome to the weekend
here on the Craigway Show here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. My name is Craigwaight. Thanks so
much for joining us. Glad to have you with us. Says,
we'll roll you right up until five o'clock and kicking
off your weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
And hope your weekend is off and going.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Like I always say, if Friday is indeed the final
day of your work week, work week, good on you,
Good for you, and hope you enjoyed the weekend. If, however,
it is still in the middle or even at the
front end of your work week, hope things go well
for you also there.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
The producer of the program is Cameron D. Parker.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
in the Cowboys, his favorite NFL team, which he says
he will not watch this year, but we'll continue to follow.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
We'll see how that all rolls out.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
That includes his first opportunity this Sunday, his team against
my team, the Los Angeles Rams Sunday afternoon at three thirty.
You've already indicated though, that you might kind of break
your vale at least for the preseason anyway, just to
see development of guys, is that right?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Possibly, I want to see how Demarvin Overshown looks obviously
did not play's rookie year due to a season ending injury.
Her great things about him through a fall camp. Curious
to see the running back situation of any of those
guys plays. So I'll definitely maybe pay attention to it,
and of course, you know, following along with other teams
to see how former Longhorns will look.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
I know JT.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Centers did not played last night for the Panthers unfortunately,
and Jonathan Brooks won't be available till probably Week three
or four of the NFL season coming off that ACL injury.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
But I will follow.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I will you listen to the Nuggets because this year
could be disastrous creg especially with what Jerry Jones said
yesterday about ceedde Lamb. I mean, it just gets worse
and worse and worse every single day.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Well, I'm glad you brought that up, and we got
a lot to get to on the program, as we
always do, and we will and we will get you
caught up on the Olympics. Good news pretty much across
the board. From the United States perspective on the Olympic
from we'll get to that. We'll talk more long Corn football.
They have a scrimmage tomorrow inside of DKR Texas Memorial Stadium,

(02:10):
a closed scrimmage, and we'll hear more from Sark. He
had sound yesterday and we didn't get to all of it,
so we'll let you hear some of them. We didn't
get to all of the players sound when they have
been interviewed, and I've been in conversations over these past
few days, and we'll get some more of that as well.

(02:31):
We have Inconceivable this hour speaking of the Carolina Panthers.
There's something that has to do with the Panthers that's
a part of Inconceivable.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
We'll do that.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
We'll also take a look at some other college football
notes and the NFL Nowity NFL preseason is officially full
on underway. There were a couple of games last night
and then tonight and tomorrow and Sunday. It continues in
the four o'clock hour. Talks of Major League Baseball. Jean
Watter from the Chicago White Sox front office to talk

(03:02):
about it. It's it's getting to be crucial if you
haven't noticed division races are tightening and uh, across the
board in Big League Baseball. So we'll get his thoughts
on all that. So, like I say, you know, there's
there's a lot to get to. But so what what
what exactly did Jerry Jones say that bothered you such?

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Well, let's get some contacts. Yeah, this is revolving around
Ceedee Lamb and his contract negotiations or maybe lack thereof.
And so yesterday again just a reminder that of the
thirty two NFL teams, there's only one NFL team whose
owner consistently will hold press conferences, will hold media availabilities,

(03:48):
and that is Jerry Jones. He's the only one, only
one the lead that does it. So yesterday, uh, Jerry
Jones was asked by the Cowboys media about contract of
the contract talks with CD Lamb, and Jerry had a
very Jerry Jones type of quote.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I want to pull it up.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I want to make sure you get this right because
it's an actually it's an insane post. He was asked,
is there a sense of urgency in the contract talks
with CD Lamb? Jerry Jones the owner and GM the
Dallas Cowboys replied no. Then he kind of laughed and said,
I don't know why I said it.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
I don't have a sense of urgency about getting it done.
Put any reason you want. Here's the best part, folks.
Quote I was at No Boo two days ago. Give
that as a reason whatever you want to put their
end quote No Boo, Craig, what does No Boo the.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Restaurant anything anything to do with CD Lamb? No, I
was at No Boo.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
See I said no, and it made me think No
Boo And yeah, fundamentally, hypothetically it's a little track sounding,
and I'm smiling when I.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Say that, But no, we've made no progress.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
He There was a very interesting piece in The Athletic today,
or maybe it was even last night.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I was reading one together home about how.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
The Ceedee Lamb contract, Dak Prescott contract and who else
who's the other Michael Parsion and Micham Parson's contracts are
all kind of intertwined in terms of they're kind of
there's a connection, and the connection obviously is to make

(05:42):
the money work.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
But it went into why you can't.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Really get one completely done without getting the other two
close to being done. To where they've done all the
math and kind of figured. But it's what we've heard
Stephen Jones and Jerry to a lesser extent, really Steven
say over these past couple of weeks is that we're

(06:09):
working these things every day and there is a process
because we have more to work with there, you know.
They pointed out the Vikings don't have to worry about
a massive contract thing to deal with because JJ McCarthy
wasn't gonna cost him as much and Sam Darnold is
going to be the starting quarterback for Minnesota anyway.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
And they kept.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Pointing that out that other teams are not as up
against it to get three marquee player contracts done.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Well, that's what you signed up for. You mortgage the future.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Jerry has always always mortgaged the future. I'll never forget it.
When I was in Dallas working and we were recovering
the Cowboys regularly in the nineties during the Glory years
and Super years, when they got Janeovichik, who might have
been what was then termed as a Plan B free

(07:08):
agent and might have been the greatest Plan B free
agent signing of all time by any team, and Janovichick
was really nice guy. In fact, I did a daily
report with him. They call it whatever Janovachick show, but
it was like a little five to ten minute thing
that I recorded with Janovichick every day, either I was

(07:29):
out of Valley Ranch or we did it by phone.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
And James's good dude.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
But somebody asked Jerry Jones back then, what's going to
happen when the bill comes due on down the line,
not only with him, with what they did with to
get Ken Norton back, what they did with Dion Sanders,
what they did with a lot of those contracts, and
the contracts obviously of the triplets of Troy, A mean, Michael,
Irvan and em and Smith. And Jerry's response back then

(07:56):
was to say, we'll worry about that when we get
to that on down the road. He pretty much glossed
over it and said, well, the bill eventually came due,
and then the Cowboys went into that dark period. I'm
not even really being you know, all of those eight
and eights and nine and sevens and that kind of
thing where they really weren't contenders. Well, these last three
years they've gone twelve and five, so or twelve and four.

(08:18):
They won twelve ball games the last three years. So
they're getting they're they're clearly in contention. But the bill
is coming due again, and so how do you make
it work?

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Well, you go to nobu. It's what you do. So anyway.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
You know that, Well, we'll just see how far that
goes and where all that ds. It's it's heading in
a bad direction, Craig. Every day that passes the percentage
of dak in CD remaining as a Dallas Cowboy beyond
twenty twenty four gets slimmer and slimmer.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, I agree with you. I do all right.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Coming up next we'll hear from.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Some long worn football players. We'll do that.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
We'll get you updated on the Olympics as well. Like
I said, buying large good news today. It was a
lot of fun yesterday while we were on the air
while Team USA was backed into a corner, up against
the wall however you want to describe it, and then

(09:25):
had the comeback that was equated I saw in Sports
Center to the two distance runners who had to come
in from way back in the pack to win gold
medal for the US, both in the eight hundred and
fifteen hundred. It was a lot of fun while we
were on the air taking a look at this one.
My goodness, this is happening. Here they come, here, they come,
and it was a lot of fun. The team USA

(09:50):
Women's team and their semifinals did not need or have
anywhere close to the drama of the men in order
to advance to the gold medal game.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Will take that much.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
But we'll tell you more about that coming up, and
some other topics as well. It's a Friday edition of
the program and we're glad to have you alongside. You
can always reach us on the text line. Easy to do.
You just text the word Texas follow by your question
or comment, you know, like I think Jerry's gonna run
this into the ground. We got to put the word
Texas in front of it Texas, and then you could

(10:21):
type I think Jerry's gonna run this thing into the ground.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
You text the word Texas followed by your question or
comment to eight one five three zero. So again, text
the word Texas, then your question or comment to eight
one five three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply.
You can also reach us via the talkback option as well.

(10:44):
We did that when we were giving away the copies
of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. We're done with the giveaway.
By the way, I walked into an AGB today, one
of the old school AGBS. You've probably seen it before, Cam,
the one that at Burnett Road in Northland Drive.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Yeah, that way. It's an old school AHB.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
I went in there for something else and I saw
the magazine on the rack there.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
We go in there.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
So if you haven't picked up your copy you and
you didn't get to get one of the ones we
were giving away, and I'm just going to go buy one.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
You can get one that I know with that.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
AHIB and probably all the agbs, but we gave them
away using the talk back feature, which was really cool.
