Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad to have you alongside as well with us on
this Wednesday afternoon, keeping you up to speed on the Olympics.
We mentioned about men's volleyball falling this afternoon or this
afternoon France time, this morning, Texas time to falling to

(00:22):
Poland in five sets. They're going to play for the bronze,
and they'll be playing for the bronze on Friday morning,
and that will be against Italy, who was one of
the heavy favorites in the Italy which who barely survived
yesterday's match against Japan, falling behind two sets to none

(00:44):
and trailing and had match points, hid the fight off,
came back and won it. They did not recover today
after digging a hole against the host nation. France swept
them in straight sets. So it's France and Poland in
the men's volleyball final and the United States will go
for the bronze. We know the Olympic men's basketball team
will be back at ashe We were talking about it
yesterday and Kevin Durant becoming the all time leading scorer

(01:07):
in Olympic basketball history. He's six points away from five
hundred career points as an Olympian, but he passed Lisa
Leslie yesterday yesterday to become the all time leading scorer
men's or women's. And he had a really nice tweet
thanking Lisa Leslie and describing how much of a pioneer
she was and he'll always be grateful to her, and

(01:31):
several other things as well. So the United States moves
in to that semifinal round where they're gonna play Serbia. Now,
remember they've already played Serbia twice, once in an exhibition
and then in pool play. On both occasions, team USA
won by twenty six points. And so that's why you

(01:56):
have Steve Kerr guarding against it, saying that maybe Serbia
and Nicola Jokic were playing possum or whatever, saying they
have been kind of lulled to sleep. He had a
quote that said, we can't get lulled asleep just because
we beat them twice. We have to be prepared for
their best effort. We've got to think about what they're

(02:17):
going to do differently. Jokic, I guess he could play
forty minutes. What else do they have up their sleeve?
So Jokic leads Serbia points at nineteen, A game rebounds
at twelve a game, assists at seven and a half,
steals two and a half, and blocks at one per game.
He's shooting sixty percent from the floor. I know they're

(02:37):
more than just him. Yeah, Bogdanovich on the on the
team as well, but he is the head of the
snake for Serbia.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
And the way Serbia has used him is a lot
different than what we're accustomed to seeing how Mike Malone
the Number Nuggets used him. In fact, there are points
in that game against Australia where it was like, where
is yolks on the floor? They weren't going to them.
And then in the fourth quarter, Jokich had a couple
possessions Craig where offensively or defensively he had either it

(03:06):
was a block and then an assist comes back, a
big rebound than a bucket, a block than a bucket.
I mean, he just completely took over, culminating into that
fade away baseline jumper that put Serbia up by three
and put Australia away for good, kind of reminding people like, hey,
there's Luca, there's Lebron, there's Shay. I'm still here. I'm

(03:31):
still here. And he played a lot better than his
counterpart on Team Canada. Jamal Murray played, who has had
an awful, awful summer in Paris, but Jokic playing like
the world's best basketball player, and it'll be a lot
of fun to see if it does end up being
a Serbia USA.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
And so they will meet in one semifinal and then
in the other Germany d this surprised me. Gam Germany's
in the Olympic semifinals for the first time ever. Yeah ever,
you know, and so I was kind of surprised that
they managed to get to the semifinals for the first time,
that that was only the first time that they've ever
been involved in And.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
After advancing I think his friend Wagner, the Fagner brothers,
former Michigan Wolf Raines both played for the Orlando Magic,
talked about how far Germany basketball has come from when
it was just Dirk Dirk de Whiskey, when Germany was,
you know, not a basketball country, and now because of
Doruk de Whiskey in his impact and influence on the

(04:31):
sport of basketball in Germany, how far it's come. They
are a very formidable team, a lot of length, a
lot of shooting. They're fun to watch and can be
you know, they almost beat Team US. I mean almost
everybody beat Team USA and exhibition games, but they were
a Lebron James I think layup away from knocking off

(04:51):
Team USA in the exhibition game. So don't sleep on
Team Germany.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see that. So that's
tomorrow with the semifinals in man's basketball. By the way,
Germany's playing France and so Victor Winn Binyama has played
pretty well, but they've had several guys Rudy Gobert who's
been kind of banged up, so they're going to be

(05:18):
they'll be formidable as well against Germany in the other semifinal.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
And they've had some weird stuff going on because the
starting lineup came out and Rudy Gobert was not in
the lineup, and their head coach talked about that it
was because of a matchup. Gobert is saying because he
had surgery on his finger the day before, some injury
to his left ring finger. But then Vincy Colette, the

(05:43):
head coach, saying no, it wasn't that, So like who
are we believing here? Which is a very interesting wrinkle
in this whole dynamic. I mean Obviously, France upset victory
over Canada, and it was a smart move because of
how small and athletic Canada was in size to kind
of go smaller and kind of just really struggled against
a smaller France lineup with Webin Yama at the five.

(06:06):
So I'm curious because Germany kind of similar with that.
Will go Beart be sitting on the bench because of
his quote unquote injury or what's the deal there? But
interesting subplot to watch for is what's going on with Gobert.
But that'll be a fun game.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Yeah, So the United States case you're wondering when that happens,
the semifinal will be tomorrow and it will be at
I want to make sure I got the time right
on this. Our time on this looks like it'll be
right when we're on the air two o'clock tomorrow afternoon

(06:44):
against US and Serbia, and then the France Germany game
will be before that. Meanwhile, in basketball, the US women's
team is playing right now in the quarterfinals against Nigeria,
and Nigeria's kind of hanging with them. The US had
opened up what looked to be a sizeable lead, then

(07:06):
Nigeria cut it to six. At thirty five twenty nine,
the US has come back with five unanswered, but with
three fifty to go on the half, it's not blowout.
Right now, the US leads forty to twenty nine. Remember,
the United States has what is it a fifty two
game Olympic winning iguess fifty eight game Olympic winning streak

(07:29):
since they won their first gold medal in the event.
I guess what in two thousand and four, I guess
it is. Uh So they're gonna, you know, we'll see
how it is when if they continue to get pushed.
But right now they're up eleven on Nigeria. As they
get to the late stages of the first half, it's
forty twenty nine. We'll keep you up to date on that.
Let me see if any of these sports this is

(07:55):
this is gonna be well, let me go back. I
think most of today is completely now in the books
I want to it looks like most everything is done.
It's wrestling, boxing, piekwondo. Hey, the men's three thousand meters
steeplechase happens when you got to run through the puddles
and jump off the ditches and stuff like that. But

(08:19):
for Kenneth Brooks. There you go. All right, So here's
some other things that are happening. Tell me if any
of these have you interested. How about sport climbing. Sport
climbing climbing like rocks rocks? Yeah, how does one determine
the winner? It says women's speed. So yeah, I guess

(08:40):
the fastest to scramble up the side of something. Okay.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Skateboarding men's park. You have some interest there? Not so much? Okay?
How about track cycling? You know the velodrome stuff like pelotons? Yeah? Interesting?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Are they stationary?

Speaker 1 (08:57):
No?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Okay? Like kind of like Tour de France, like on
that actual.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Indoor, that indoor coach when you're on a track and
the indoor it's different than the road course where we
saw the American Okay, how about mixed marathon race walk.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Like speed walking?

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Oh my goodness. Isn't there a commercial? Is Chris Paul
and State Farm?

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yea, yeah, yeah, that's gonna uh hey, men's discus this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
How about the mixed dinghytal I was going to ask
you about the mixed dinghy your dinghy?

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Uh, that's sailing, that's the small boat. Is the dingy. Yeah,
that's is the dinghy. That's that's tomorrow, the mixed dinghy
race tomorrow. Uh, you got that if you want to
get if you want to see that live for three am,
get up at four forty three am and watch the

(09:52):
mixed dingy metal Race. Uh, to be followed by the
mixed multihull metal Race, then the men's sp final. In
sport climbing canoeing, we get the canoeing thing, field hockey, diving,
men's three meters spring board. So we've got all that
and a lot more coming up tomorrow as well. All right,

(10:13):
Team USA up twelve to forty five to go on
the first half. The American women lead Nigeria in that
Olympic quarterfinal on the basketball court forty two to thirty.
So if the US wins, they will qualify to play
for a medal, they'll at the very least be able
to play for a Bronzin, like volleyball did after losing
in the summi finals. So since two thousand and four,

(10:35):
they've never not medaled. In fact, they've never done anything
other than win the gold, and most folks are expecting
to win the gold. But at least Nigeria is hanging
around right now. It's an eleven point lead for the US,
forty two to thirty one. Under three minutes were mating
in the half. All right, coming up this business with
Jim Harball football stuff in more Texas conversation as well
