Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our number two is underway. I'm Craig Way alongside the
producer Cameron Parker. We're with you up until five o'clock
this afternoon. Coming up in a few minutes, Greg Tapper,
managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, will join
us our weekly conversation to talk college football in Texas
as well. It's high school football in Texas, so we'll
do that coming up in a few minutes. Also, we'll

(00:20):
hear more from Andrew mccuba speaking of Texas high school
football and college football in Texas. The Longhorn's senior corner,
of course, hails from LBJ High here transferred in by
way of Clemson after three years there. Had his first
interception as a long worn last Saturday. And we'll hear
more from macuba coming up later on this hour. Something

(00:44):
else to get to, you know, we've been mentioning icons
because this is, like we said, it's a Texan Tuesday,
so we've been hearing from some of the iconic legends
of music in Texas As. Cam invariably rolls back with
on Tuesday, and we've had our TV ra Vaughn hit
in the two o'clock hour and at some point here

(01:06):
in the three o'clock hour, we'll hear from Willie Nelson,
and in somewhere in the four o'clock hour, we'll hear
from the King George Strait. So we'll hear that along
with others. Now, there's a couple of other iconic things
to mention at this time of year. At this time
of year, early September, football is finally underway. Full blast

(01:32):
Week one is finally in the books after last time's
Monday Night game, and the baseball pennt races are going on.
We don't speak that often about what's going on in
the NBA because it's kind of a quiet time for
the moment doesn't start till next month. However, I don't
know if you saw this story cam the Lakers are

(01:53):
going to honor Jerry West number forty four for all
eighty two games this coming said. They're going to wear
a band on the left should of the uniforms with
the number forty four for the twenty twenty four twenty
five season. Of course, he played all fourteen years of
his Hall of Fame career with the Lakers, later served
as coach and a highly successful executive of the organization.
He passed away in June at the age of eighty six.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Yeah, I have a little band on there, the logo
as people know him in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Boston has something similar with Bill Russell. Yeah, with the
six and you know guys like that. I think there
should be a way, not just for the entire season
Creig w but figured out a way to honor them
for a long long time, whether it's teaming the floor
after them or a certain section because Jerry rehh, I mean,
of course he does have to end a logo after him,
but I mean the impact that Jerry West and Bill
Russell had on the game of basketball, it's you can't

(02:44):
you know really put well, I can think of the
word of what to say, but you can't really, you know,
know their impact.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
He was my he and Wilt Chamberlain or my first
pro basketball heroes because I was a Laker of him
I was a little kid. I loved him both Jerry
West and Wilt Chamberlain. And West of course was one
of the greatest shooting guards ever to play. He led
the Lakers to nine NBA Final appearance. Of course, they
only won at one time because it kept running up

(03:12):
against the Celtics all but two of the times, and
it was against the Knicks, but they did win the
championship seventy one seventy two. They won thirty three straight
games during that time, a record. He was a fourteen
time All Star. His career average is twenty seven points
per game. That's number eight in all time history. Was
nicknamed Mister Clutch for his pension for delivering in big moments.

(03:34):
Named All NBA twelve times. Was the Finals MVP in
sixty eight sixty nine when they lost to the Celtics
as part of a losing team. The first year of
that award was given out and still to this day
the only time it's gone to a player on the
losing team. He was the MVP of that deal. And
he was also the architect of that showtime Lakers, you know,

(03:55):
a dynasty of the eighties that won five titles, and
he was there at the formation to the Kobe Bryant
Shaquille O'Neil tandem that went on to win three straight titles.
So they're going to honor West on opening night of
the regular season when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on
October twenty second, with the West number forty four jersey
giveaway for the fans. That's really cool. So glad to

(04:16):
hear that that was the case there. And since we're
talking about iconser's one other thing to mention, Well, this
would not be in a flattering thing, but it is
the news. Adrian Peterson, of course, was pretty iconic in
high school at Palestine and then for Oklahoma and then
on in the NFL. Four time All Pro, seven time

(04:39):
Pro Bowl selection. Ranks fifth all time of fourteen thy
nine hundred and eighteen rushing guards, to go with ninety
scored touchdowns, accrewed over one hundred and eighty four career
games with seventeens, most notably the Vikings. He last played
three years ago. He's thirty nine. That was during the
twenty twenty one season. Well, today, a Houston judge has

(05:01):
ordered Adrian Peterson a turnover numerous assets as a means
toward paying a debt that has estimated at more than
twelve million dollars. So Robert Burleth requested this order in
July and said Peterson quote is known to have numerous
assets at his home in Missouri City. That's in Fort

(05:22):
Benn County, just outside of Houston, and the Houston judge
yesterday ordered constables in Fort Ben County to accompany Berlin
to his residence to keep the peace. His debt issues
began when he took out a loan for five point
two million from a Pennsylvania lending company in twenty sixteen.
The sum has grown because of interest in attorneys fees,

(05:46):
leading to an eight point three million dollar judgment against
him in twenty twenty one, and the bankruptcy receiver said
no offsets have been made against this judgment to date,
so they're coming to get his stuff until he pays
off the twelve million dollar debt. So there's that all right.

(06:08):
Up next, we'll get back to talking about some regular
football of the blocking and tackling and rushing and passing
and receiving and scoring type of football. Greg tap Or,
managing editor Van Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, joins us next
as we continue on this Tuesday afternoon on Sports Radio
