Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad you're joining us here for the second hour of
the program. Here, stuff is coming fast and furious with
regard to the Olympics, so we should probably try to
update you as we go forward. Also, we're going to
hear more from longrn's head coach, Steve Sarkisan and from
Long Worn players. Texas had a practice this morning, so

(00:21):
we'll let you hear from then. Some sound from them
coming up as well. But there's a lot to recap
with what's going on with the Olympics right now, currently
in real time at the moment, starting with and we've
been updating on this, the US men's basketball team is
down at the half by eleven points to Serbia, fifty

(00:43):
four to forty three. They trail by eleven at intermission.
Steph Curry has done his part. He had seventeen points
in the first quarter, just three in the second, but
he's seven of ten from the floor, six of nine
beyond the arc. He's leading all scores with twenty points.
Lebron James has nine, Joel Embiid has seven, Devin Booker

(01:05):
has three. Among the starters off the bench, Anthony Davis
with two, Anthony Edwards with two, Kevin Durant has not scored,
He's only taken one shot.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
He's oh for one in the contest.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Serbia is not led by Nikola Yokichi does have nine points,
three rebounds and seven assists, but they have two guys
in double figures, Armanovitch and Bogdanovich. Armanovitch with fifteen, Bogdanovich
with twelve. Right now, and it's a fifty four forty
three lead for the Serbs. They were up by fifteen

(01:41):
in the first half before it was trimmed back down
to eleven. We'll keep you updated on that. And the
winner is going to play France and Victor winba Yama
apparently got got cut up during the game. It was
a cut on the left side of his neck.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
But they won.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
They beat Germany seventy three sixty nine in the first
semifinal and they had the crowd behind him and all
that sort of stuff. So the winner is going to
play France for the gold. The loser is going to
have to play Germany for the bronze. Out of this
Texas Serbia Texas US Serbia matchup right now in the
United States needs to get it in gear in order

(02:25):
to have an opportunity to advance and try to defend
that Olympic gold medal. Also, the two hundred meter men's
race today took place, and two things happened with regard
to Noah Lyles. He didn't win, and then they had

(02:48):
a revelation about him. He finished in third place. As
let's see, Lee Tobogo a Botswana earned the African nation
its first gold medal and he won it and another American,
Kenny beg Narik, got the silver, and Noah Lyles finished

(03:11):
in third place, and it was right after he did
that to get the bronze. On the NBC broadcast, they
indicated they'd spoken with his mother, who said Lyles had
been diagnosed with COVID two days ago. He tested positive
a couple of days ago. He later in an interview

(03:34):
said he was tested if not feeling well around five
in the morning on Tuesday, but he added he never
thought about not running after the diagnosis. He's not sure
if he will still participate in the four by one
hundred meter, but he said the Americans have the speed
to win the race without him.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
That sort of thing.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
So yeah, Lyles tested positive for COVID and wound up
getting a bronze.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, an incredible dramatic reaction by him for the race ended.
I mean it was almost like Paul Pierce being carted
off in a wheelchair going into the locker room so
he could go number two. I'm not saying he's not sick.
I mean obviously he looked completely gas. But you know,
I thought Central Golden had a really good point from
the Austin American Statesman. Is that you know in the

(04:18):
in the introductions, you know, he came flying out, you know,
doing his thing. He's a great showman, right, he's a
great showman. But then you lose the race, I don't know,
just get off the track and let the gold medal
get the proper recognition. Now, of course we're just seeing
the American coverage, Craig, but I mean, the race ends,
he gets bronze, and he's getting more coverage than the

(04:39):
gold medal and even the silver medal winner, which it
doesn't sit.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Right with me. Yeah, I understand understand that as well.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Sidney McLaughlin their own and also had a big day today.
She won gold in the women's four hundred meter hurdles final,
so good for her. She was able to able to
win that there was another gold medal for the US,
which by the way, now has topped one hundred total medals.
They're at one hundred and three total medals and they

(05:08):
still have the gold medal lead by two over China.
I think they have thirty in China's twenty eight in
that So that's that's where that is.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
By the way, the.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
US, which had been down fifteen, is trim the margin
to seven now just over eight minutes to go third quarter,
so they're two minutes into the second half and the US,
so that's back out to a ten point lead. The
serviy is just bombed to three, so it's fifty seven
to forty seven there with eight minutes remaining in the
third quarter. And again we'll keep you posted on that
one as well. So big news with regard of that.

(05:42):
Olympic women's golf has has been going on and Morgan
montrou of Switzerland.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Is leading.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
She had eight threes on her car and on the
front nine she shot a twenty eight on the front nine,
pretty good, and she wound up at six hundred sixty six,
one shot lead of our Ruining Yen of China.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
That's at the halfway point.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Lydia Coe, the only golfer to win medals in the
last two Olympics. Out of sixty seven, she's three off
the pace as well. By the way, if she gets
a gold medal, it puts her into the LPGA Hall
of Fame. I always thought that that the golf thing
is a little bit weird about that, about the number
if you hit a.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Certain number, it's kind of like college football, right with
your wedding percentage. That's keeping Mike Leach out of the
college football Hall of Fame, right, the same thing.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
I think it's kind of cool. I think it's kind
of cool all right with that.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
No, I think there would be should be some amendments
depending on the player, like if you know someone passes
away a little bit earlier before their Yeah, the coaching
career playing special exception.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah one.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Longhorn is playing in the women's golf event. Sarah Khuskova,
who's representing I want to make sure you get the
country right. I think it's Chechia. She's currently tied for
forty fifth. But yeah, interesting to see Nelly Korda six
shots back, but still still two rounds to go.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
So hey.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Scottie Scheffertz at one point was what seven shots behind
Row on Sunday, so maybe we can see us sweep
the golf competitions.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Cordy Korda shot a seventy, so she was six under
for the day until she had one bad swing, one
bad lie and three putts for a quadruple bogie on
the par three sixteenth.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
It's my game, get a seven on a par three.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Hey, those closing sixteen seventeen eighteen water lurking all over
the place. It's I mean, we saw Rory makedouble, we
saw rom make double, so it's it's a tough course
and it's it's a great course I think for the
Limic competition.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Wow. Okay.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Also just getting worried about the Americans taking gold and silver.
Halloway and Roberts also winning in the hurdles, So we'll
have some more details on that coming up as well
when we continue. Also, we're gonna hear more from logrns

(08:11):
head football coach Steve Sarkesian. In addition to hearing from
sark we will we'll hear from Baron Surrell from the
LOGRN football team, so we'll hear some of that they
had to practice this morning and after they go through
things tomorrow. They have scrimmage on Saturday, and I believe

(08:31):
then they're off on Sunday on that So we'll hear
from those guys coming up, and obviously we'll keep you
updated on the Olympic Men's basketball semifinal, where the US
is down nine as they approached the midway mark of
the third quarter and Steph Curry is the one who's
keeping them within striking kidding, he's he's got twenty three

(08:52):
points right now, so he's still he's still keeping them
close because he is making shots and they're probably gonna
need him to make some more shots as well.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
I love seeing they don't list his NBA team, They
list his hometown Charlotte, North Carolina seventy four, that's.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Right, and Davidson College. Yeah, yeah, he went to Davidson
as well.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
All right, coming up, we'll hear more from Sark and
more long Orn football information while we continue on sports
