Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tuesday afternoon, Chile. But not frigid in other words, not
in terms of blood freezing or anything like that, at
least not yet. Anyway, we'll see all the rest of
the week goes all right. As I mentioned and been
talking about, we're gonna let you hear from the Long
Orange Quarterbacks or without further ado. Here it is the
conversation with QB one the media zoom with Long Orange

(00:21):
quarterback quin.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yours Hi, quinn'l Rabine West from the Columbus Dispatch. You're
I was seeing Columbus only one semester. What stands out
to you about that time and and your decision to
come and your decision to go. Obviously CJ Stroud and
established himself. I'm sure that was a big reason. But
if you could kind of talk about your time here, Yeah,

(00:42):
learned a lot while.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
I was there, under you know, coach Day and and
CJ and just that whole room was awesome to be around,
and no, super thankful for that time that I got
to spend there.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
And like I said, I learned a whole lot.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
So I don't regret any decision I made on going
or or anything like that. So but the main reason
I went was I felt like I had a you know,
a great relationship with with the coaching staff, and you know,
they were winning a lot of games, and I wanted
to go be a part of something like that. And
the reason that I came back to Texas was one,

(01:16):
you know, to be closer to where I'm from and
just closer to the resources that I have and you know,
the relationships that I've built over time just being from Texas.

Speaker 5 (01:25):
Hey, Quinn, kind of along those lines, what was one
of the biggest tips that you got from CJ?

Speaker 4 (01:31):
And do you still keep up with him as well?

Speaker 6 (01:33):
Now he's not too far from you in Houston.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, no, we don't. We don't keep up that much.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
But you know, I got one of his receivers that
he played with in high school in Silas Bolden, So
we we caught up a little bit over that just.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Talking about Silas.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
But you know, it's it's been fun to watch him
and as his NFL career, you know, continues and everything.
But you know, what I really learned from from the
guys in that room is really how to be a
college quarterback and kind of what it takes to be
a college quarterback from preparing in the film room and
taking that on to practice and then ultimately the game.

Speaker 7 (02:05):
Hey, Quinn, just kind of going off of that as well,
what's it gonna be like going up against you know,
your former coach and Ryan Day, but you've also got
some of your former teammates. Kyler Williams called you his
guy the other day, and you've got you know, a
Mecca Buka.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Guys like that.

Speaker 7 (02:17):
So what that what's that gonna be like for you?

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, it's gonna be awesome just to get to see
all those guys again. I mean in this semester that
I was there, I feel like I made, you know,
some pretty good relationships while I was there, and you know,
those guys were those guys were fun to be around
when I was there. They they took me in and
and kind of in a weird time for sure, for
as me coming in as you know, kind of in
the middle of fall camp, and you know, some of

(02:41):
those guys just kind of you know, Sam, what's up
to me? As simple as that, and you know, kind
of welcome, welcoming me in, and you know, I felt
like I belonged there, and it was It's gonna be
fun to get to see those guys. You know, me
and me and Jack Sawyer were roommates my freshman year
with a couple other guys. So it's it's gonna be
it's gonna be cool to get to see those guys.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Sure way, good afternoon. So I'm curious from your time
here at Texas, do you remember a time when not
only coach Sarkisian aj Millwey the rest of the entire
staff and team when they put their complete and unwavering
trust in you.

Speaker 8 (03:20):
As their quarterback.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Do you remember that time and what.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Was it like?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Well, I mean, sorry, so someone say something. Nope, Okay,
Well I can tell you my first fall camp here. Obviously,
I was battling with Hudson Hudson card to earn the
starting job, and then towards the end of that Sark

(03:48):
and me had a, you know, a good conversation where
he pretty much told me that it's it's my job.
And you know, I think that was a big step
for me, obviously, because it makes things a whole lot easier.
Whenever you do know that you're going to be the quarterback,
and especially the starter. It just helps my confidence for sure.
And then you know, in that year there's definitely some

(04:08):
ups and downs we're going.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
On with the injury.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
You know, we we came out the first quarter against
Alabama and in twenty twenty two, and you know, we
were rolling as an offense, and I feel like that
obviously helped build confidence in me and then everybody around me, and.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
From from then on out, it's kind of just built
on from then.

Speaker 7 (04:29):
Hey, Quinn, just want to ask from your time at
Ohio State, are there any specific relationships you made with
people there that have really stayed strong for YouTube is day?

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Well, I mean, me and me and Kyle still still
talk to get him out. I know he's not there anymore,
but we talk often, and I mean, I'm I guess
it's been a little bit.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
But to me, those relationships.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Feel like if I'd see him, you know, walking down
the side of the road, be like, you know, I
was hanging out with them yesterday. I just feel like
those the relationship that I built there were just they
were they were definitely super special for sure.

Speaker 7 (05:08):
When what is what is a finish to the Peach
Bowl like you had fourth and thirteen and then turning
right around hitting Gunner for the touchdown, then hitting Matt
for the two point conversion. What what does that do
for your confidence? And as a quarterback, the biggest moment

(05:29):
to deliver.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, I think that's you know, it's it's awesome for
everybody around us and everybody around me, and you know whenever,
you know, we had our backs up against the wall
for sure in that game, you know, fourth and thirteen,
you know, in a moment we had to have it
and you know, Matt made a great play on a
on a double move and you know, I think that

(05:53):
that single play he allowed us to regain momentum and
go on to win the rest of that game. And
it's the huge for our confidence, just because you know,
being in those top of moments tho's gotta have it
moments and coming out with a win is huge.

Speaker 7 (06:11):
In what what has to happen against Ohio State? What
you know, what kind of performance does the offense need
to have for you all to pull off this win?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I mean we just got to go play our
game and execute at a high level and you know,
have first and second down wins that will ultimately lead
to shorter third downs and more manageable third downs. And
if we're able to do that, then the drive will
continue to work down the field and then you know,
obviously we have to score in the red zone field goals.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
I don't think we'll get it done.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Wan.

Speaker 8 (06:47):
If you size up the Ohio State defense, and especially
your old friend Jack Sawyer, uh, what stands out? What
jumps out you? I know they had twelve sacks in
the last two games, So how would you assess them?

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Well, I think that they're a really high effort group
and they play super hard, and you know, they're coached
really well. And whenever you have coaches like that that
that put the schemes in that they have and you
know it's they create, you know, mismatches and they create
you know, one on ones that you know, they do
a good job of, you know, maximizing every opportunity that

(07:23):
they that they get. And you know, I think they
do a really good job of covering on the back end.
And I think they're just a really good overall defense.

Speaker 9 (07:32):
I think when when you first got to OHAS, I
think it was in the middle of training camp you
could reclassified. Can you kind of talk about kind of
what the motivation was to arrive in and what the
challenge was like joining the team at that juncture kind
of in the middle of camp.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yeah, well, I guess one of the main things was
that there was that I don't know if you guys
remember or not, but the Texas legislature wasn't gonna allow
high school fotball player to be paid, and you know,
me and my family had a pretty big opportunity in
front of us that you know, we felt that it
was a good a good decision for me to go

(08:09):
on and you know, forego my senior year and enroll
early at Ohio State and you know, have the opportunity
to have some some good money in our pockets as
a family.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
And sorry, what was the back end of that question?

Speaker 9 (08:23):
Just just uh in getting to the team in the
middle of camp, I imagine that was the challenge.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
What was that like?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah, no, it was.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
It was definitely definitely had to grow up super fast.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
You know, as you know, fall camp is not easy.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
And you know, going from a high school schedule to
where you know, you're practicing after school whatever it is,
practicing before school, and you know, for me to kind
of go in in the middle of fall camp and
you know practice at a college level was definitely a
shock for sure. But again, I'm just super thankful for
my opportunity that I that I had up there.

Speaker 9 (08:59):
You mentioned your report system here and being closer to that.
Was it difficult to be away from them as you
kind of went through that transition there and not getting
to play as much.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Yeah, you know, it's definitely tough whenever. You know, I've
never really been a backup in my life. And you know,
obviously CJ was you know, very much deserving to be playing,
for sure, and I'm a young kid, you know, but
you know, it's tough whenever you're supposed to be a
senior and you know, you see all your all your
buddies who you grew.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Up with, you know, still playing football, and you know,
I'm just.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Sitting obviously because I wasn't prepared to go play a game,
you know, I just got in the middle of fall camp.
But you know, going back to it, I think again,
it was just its just a shock for me to
to to go into a going from high school level
to college level.

Speaker 10 (09:50):
Hey, Quentinn, now that you've had a chance to kind
of look over the film and reflect on it, what
stands out about that fourth and thirteen playing? Where is
that kind of rank on your personal favorite plays? Of
your time in Texas.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Yeah, well, I mean it's definitely up there for sure,
But I don't even think I watched it on film,
to be honest with you. You know, just straight here,
straight through Ohio State.

Speaker 11 (10:15):
Hey, Quinn Donovan bridge Forth, TXA in twenty four News,
what do you think will be the key to setting
the tone early against Ohio State? And how important is
it to get a fast start in the game of
this magnitude And can you kind of tell me about
like the chemistry how you were talking about earlier of
the offense and how that'll play into the execution.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yeah, well, you know, I think if we go out
and just play our game, get completions early, and just
continue to have first and second down wins, I think
we'll be in a good spot to where we want
to whatever start wants to call those shots downfield will
be in a good enough spot to where he's comfortable
enough to call those shots or whatever it is. And

(10:57):
you know, the chemistry off the field definitely helps on
the field for sure, because you know, just the relationship
and the rapport that we've all built together carries on
to the field. You know, we want to play for
each other, We want to play for the guy to
are right in our left. It just acts that, you know,
extra extra motivation if it's needed.

Speaker 12 (11:16):
Good Affington Quinn just want to revisit that fourth and fourteen.
We've spoken Matt after the game and he said that
you were kind of the calming presence in the huddle.
I'm just curious how important is it for you as
the quarterback to be that calming presence. Not you know,
no respect to Jake or Calvin or guys like that.
Weels there are great players, but how important is it
for you as the quarterback to be that calming presence
for everybody?

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:38):
I think that's huge for the quarterback to be that
guy who's going to be calm within the storm and
just the guy to kind of rely on.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
And you know, I.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I pictured it as when I want when I when
I see a receiver in Oligneman and running back tied
End look at me, I want them to see the
calmness and hear the calmness in my voice and you know,
just see like, oh he's calm, like you know, we
got this, We're good. You know, if he's comfortable, I'm
gonna be comfortable. And you know, I just want to

(12:06):
be that guy that just kind of that example for
for other guys who you know, might be a little
nervous for the for the situation or for the moment,
but you know, it's the guys that make the plays
around me.

Speaker 6 (12:19):
When as far as the things you learned in your
semester at Ohio State, is there anything? Is there anything
specifically or anything that's carry over from your time under
coach Day that you feel like was a good habit
or something you learned about football or just like that's
carried over.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, well, I mean, going back to it again, I
think that they did a really good job of preparing
from week to week and that's like the first time
that I really got to see it firsthand. At this level,
you know how to watch film and how to prepare
for the game, for the upcoming game, and you know,

(12:55):
because obviously it's different from from the high school level,
you know, and getting to see that first I think was.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Awesome for me.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
There it is from long Orange quarterback when yours, we're
going to hear from one of his receive another one
of his receiving targets. You already heard from Matthew Golden.
You're going to hear from Gunnar Helm when we continue
here on AM thirteen under the zone
