Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tonight coming up, it'll be three hours from now at
seven o'clock will be the airing of Long Worn Weekly
with Coach Sark. It was the program that we recorded
last night. We recorded every Wednesday at Pluckers the West
Campus location, Aaron, Austin, and we do that every Wednesday
from six until seven, So we record the program on

(00:23):
Wednesday and then it airs on Thursday. We should point
out also that we have one more early season basketball
edition of Long Worn Weekly with Rodney Terry next Thursday,
and it'll be live at six o'clock. Like the prior
to shows that we did, there's not one tonight but

(00:43):
next Thursday at six live. So six o'clock on Wednesday
for the recording of Long Worn Weekly with Coach Sark.
It'll be coming off the Florida game and previewing the
Arkansas game and then the very next day, which is
one week from tonight, Thursday, the fourteenth, an early season
basketball addition a Longhorn Weekly with Rodney Terry. It'll be

(01:05):
coming off the long Horns home opener and the game
next Tuesday and home against Chicago State before they get
ready for their next action, which would be on Saturday,
a Mississippi Valley State, while the long Horn football team
is up in Chicago. Also programmer minder Texas women's basketball
opens its season. Their first game of the year will

(01:26):
be this Sunday afternoon, two o'clock at Moody Center. I
hope you can make it out for that, cam and
I will be out there as the Longhorns will be
playing host to Southeast Missouri State. So that'll be Sunday
afternoon at two o'clock. You can hear it on one
three point one FM, Austin's eighties station, so I have
that as well. So a couple of programming notes for

(01:47):
you there. We'll go back to college football and we'll
have some more comments coming from head coach Steve Sarkisian
coming up at the next segment.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
But some other college football note.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
We told you the last hour about Scott Strickland, the
athletic director of Florida kind of sending an open letter
online at Florida Gators dot com to penned to as
he says Gator Nation that the way described it as
billion Napier will continue as our football coach because there
have been a lot of speculation and you know what

(02:22):
might happen in water and all this kind of stuff.
But this Florida team has played better. Sarkis pointed that
out both in his media availabilities and in long run Weekly.
Last night we were recorded in again you can hear
it tonight where he talks about Florida as well. So
Scott Strickland, the athletic director, said billion Napier will continue
as head football coach of the Gators, who are looking

(02:47):
and playing better and with more confidence of late. They
had the twenty twenty game with Georgie in the fourth
quarter seven minutes to go before the Bulldogs scored two
touchdowns to pull away.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
They had beat in.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Kentucky, they took Tennessee into overtime in Knoxville. So it's
a team that's definitely playing better in the second half
of the season, and that's what the War Orange will encounter.
We'll hear more from sart coming up here in the
next segment. Other college football notes. Did you see who

(03:21):
committed to s m U yesterday?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I did? Do we feel old? Because I do? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Stop it every time you do, yeah, it kind of
bothers and we talk about how it's oh, it wasn't
my generation. Stop you're that it wasn't my generation. This
is your generation right now.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I don't want to claim it though, well to claim.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
It anyway, uh Coleer Yeah, yeah, son of Matt Lionert,
committed to s m U yesterdays from Redondo Union High School.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I think at the same high school as as Malachai
Nelson or kill Williams. Yeah and yeah, and.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Not currently rated by ESPN, But he did have several
Power four offers and picked the Mustangs over Colorado, Arizona
and Utah to become the second member of Rhett Lashley's
twenty twenty six class.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
So he'll be going to SMU, and.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
SMU is on a good role right now. The Mustangs
with their highest rankings since nineteen eighty five, and that
was you know, pre death penalty. And you know, though
they are in line to be able to play in
the ACC Championship game if they closed out, as we

(04:50):
mentioned what, they've got three games remaining against three four
and four teams, teams that are four and four right now. Anyway,
starting with this week with Boston College and and they have
or is it next week they have a bye week
this week and then play next week. But anyway, the
Boston College, Virginia, and there's one more game and they're
all against teams that are four and for Maybe it's
Virginia Tech.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I can't remember, but they it can't be Virginia Tech.
They play Virginia that week. But SMU does have that close.
I'll tell you right now. They have looking at their schedule.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Boston College, Virginia and col and they play two of
those three games at home. All three of those teams
are four and four BC. And it's not this Saturday.
Like I said, they have an open day, they have
a bye this week. Then they have BC, Boston College
and home on the sixteenth, They go to Virginia on
the twenty third, and they play Cow at home on

(05:45):
November thirtieth. If they win those three games, they will
be in the ACC Championship game. They will guarantee be
in it because they haven't lost a conference game. Same
holds for Miami, which has not lost a conference game.
The Hurricanes like at Georgia Tech. Is it a trap

(06:08):
game at Georgia Tech, as they say in Star Wars?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Is it? Then they wake Forest at home and they
finish at Syracuse.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
With that schedule, if like every game is a trap game, right,
I mean, hey, they were down the duke in that
second half. I know they're undefeated, and you know you
want to reward undefeated teams. But is there a win
on that on that schedule for Miami that you think
is better than any win Texas has. I mean, I

(06:38):
guess you want to give them.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
The road win at Louisville is good. That's it. Louisville.
That's a good one, all right. Otherwise mm yeah, so, uh,
we'll see.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
But if they went out, they will be in the
a SEC Championship. If my and and and the By
the way, if you were to get inside the minds
of those who are directing the a SEC, you know what,
you know what, you would find that they want Miami
to goun defeated the rest of the regular season. As
them you to go on beating the rest of the

(07:10):
regular season, then they want you to beat Miami the
a SEC championship because if Miami goes unbeating the rest
of the regular season, they're going to be in the playoff.
You think, so, no matter what they do in the
AEC chip, they won't fall far enough out of twelve
to get there. They're in the top five now, and
if they were unbeaten in the top five and lose

(07:31):
one game, they're not going to fall all the way
out of twelve.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
So what about Alabama with four losses? Stop it, stop it.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Four losses won't get them there three mit, Mike, that
was the thing. Heather Dinnach pointed out, Yeah, they could,
they could.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Which goes against what Paul Finebam said. Yeah, elimination game, right, Yeah,
the world's going to end. Yeah, Sorday, Actually it's his take. Yeah,
Alabama loses. I think if no matter who loses, the
world's ending. According to Paul, Yeah, okay, but I do
think with three losses, I don't know. I guess it
depends on how close the LSU losses. But if LSU

(08:15):
had beatn A and M I would say, sure, okay,
because then you have a LSU would be top ten.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
But yeah, but here's here's the thing that nobody wants
to hear. But it's absolutely one hundred percent true. It
depends on what happens with other teams, how many other
teams take hits and the laws.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
There's be a lot more chaos that we do not
know that's gonna happen. Does Indiana.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Do they lose to both Michigan and Ohio State or
Ohio State and then lose to Purdue for the old
oaken bucket they points to Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah, you know, you get blown out. That's okay, you
know what, they're not top twelve team?

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Does Does the Big Twelve continue to cannibalize itself and
then BYU runs the table and wins the Big Twelve Championship?
There the Big Twelve and only get one team in.
If that happens, that's pretty elementary to figure out. So
I would say if Miami goes unbeaten the rest of
the regular season, they're in regardless of what happens in

(09:14):
Charlotte in the a SEC Championship. And so that's why
the ACC leadership would love to see an unbeaten Miami
take on a once beaten but unbeaten conference play SMU
and then have SMU win the a SEC Championship and
Miami gets in.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Isn't that large and SMU gets by at that point?
Let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
So let's say Miami stays undefeated and SMU trips up
and Louisville or maybe a Clemson gets into the ACC
championship game, they're probably not going to be.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
SMU will not be in it if that happens. Yeah,
they're thirteen right now.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
At that point, the automatic bid goes to the conference champion.
Right of course, what if they're ranked lower than Miami
is in the ranking.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
That could definitely happen, but they won't be they won't
be ranked lower by winning the conference. They'll automatically slot
in at the four. It's the same thing like with Boise.
Boise right now is twelve. But let's say some other
teams continue in SMU and some other ones and they
pass Boise and Boise he winds up being fourteen fifteen.

(10:22):
They're still going to get slotted in at twelve if
they win and it.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Knocks teams out.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
That is the unintended consequence of the twelve team playoff.
But you know what, you're gonna have some bad with
the good you just are, and they have to make
way for a conference champion, all five conference champions. That
was the compromise in doing this. I know the SEC

(10:48):
and the Big ten want there to be an opportunity
to get more of their members in, and they got
what eight of the top eleven, But I got each other. Well,
I got the Miss Georgia and Tennessee all going to
beat up on each other.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Alabama LSU played this week.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I got the solution. You expanded to sixteen. Expanded to sixteen. Hey,
if one double A can do it. Fcs, you know
Division two, Division three, they have like twenty teams and
some of those.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Why can't you go with the Just.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Have everybody the top eight seeds play an on campus
first round game like you have it five through eight.
You can spread it out. It wouldn't take an extra weekend.
Just have eight games on December twentieth. Just have eight
and twenty first. You could have two on Friday and

(11:39):
six on Saturday. Split it up among the networks. Staggered
the Star time. This is not hard to figure out.
So yeah, get it to sixteen. Then of course, then
if you get it to sixteen, the SEC and the
ACC or the SEC and the Big ten would want
to have twelve of the sixteen spots six a piece

(12:01):
in there. The more you get, the more you want, right,
That would just happen that way, But I let in
a few more that way, Like I said, open it
to sixteen. All right, up next we'll hear more from
Longren's head coach, Steve Sarkis in here on sports Radio
