Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into today's show.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I'm Cameron Parker filling in for Greg Way, who is
wheels up to Lexington, Kentucky for Texas Baseball this weekend,
the Texas Longhorn second ranked team in the country, on
the road against the Kentucky Wildcats in an SEC Conference matchup.
So Creig Way and Keith Morland heading out to the

(00:22):
Bluegrass State and they will be joining us later on
here in today's program, hopefully the three o'clock hour, we
will visit with Craig Way and Keith Moreland. Of course
we're going to talk Texas Baseball. We're going to talk
the Masters where Scotty Scheffler just one shot back from
Justin Rose atop the leaderboard right now as Scotty looks
to go back to back in return to Butler Cabin

(00:48):
with the Green Jacket will give you update its on
so far the first round and all the ongoings.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
We're going to talk with CJ.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Fogel from on Texas Football later on today's show, actually
coming up next as he was down talking with Arch
Manning and Trey Wisner and many other Jax's Longhorne's football players.
After I believe would practice number nine today maybe number eight,
but there was a local availability made with players, So
we're gonna get CJ's thoughts on that, get his thoughts

(01:17):
on what else is new surrounding Texas spring football, some
positional battles, some latest injuries, some new numbers, all that
good stuff and more. Of course, last night was Lucas's
return to Dallas, so very emotional return. The Lakers would
defeat the Dallas Mavericks I think one twelve to ninety seven,

(01:40):
Luca with forty five points in the victory. Just a
typical Luca dunch It's performance. I know Mavericks fans were
not surprised. We're gonna hear from Luca. He teared up
in the pregame ceremony when they played a tribute video
that was dedicated to them. CJ is also a Dallas kid,
so we're going to get his thoughts on on lucas

(02:01):
return as well as always inconceivable on this Thursday, despite
no Craig Way, and hopefully we're going to hear from
those Texas football players and even maybe Texas basketball player
Rory Harmon, who did announce yesterday that she will return
for her final season in Austin at or Texas lost
to South Carolina in the Final four, so a big

(02:24):
return for Fix Shaeffer in the Texas Longhorns, who had
three players recognized on Senior Night, Rory Harmon, Taylor Jones,
and Alea Moore. Now I believe Taylor Jones is no
longer has any availability left, but I do believe that
Leah Moore does as well, but no decision yet from

(02:45):
her camp. Still not sure what's on deck for Leah Moore,
but we do know that Rory Harmon will be returning
to the Texas Longhorns this next season, So a big, big,
big return for Fix Shaffer or so Leah Crump, one
of the talented high school players in the country, will
be joining Texas next season as they look to run

(03:05):
it back in the Southeastern Conference and maybe make that
Final four thing consistent. As always, we would love to
hear from your thoughts on today's show. Of course, text
to word Texas to eight one, five three zero, followed
by your message hear your thoughts on maybe the Masters,
on anything else as well, And of course, if you

(03:26):
want to join the show, you can leave a message
on the free iHeart radio app using the talk back feature.
It's the best way to listen to this show, to
the morning kickoff, the best way to listen to Texas
baseball in Texas Softball. All right, let's go ahead and
take a look at the master's leaderboard right now. We're
actually a familiar name atop the leader board, but he

(03:50):
has not won at Augusta yet, even though he's been
in contention many many times, including ten years ago when
he finished runner up to Jordan's speed. That is Justin Rose,
who is in who went in with a thirty one
Holy Cal five hundred par for the first three to nine,
so for the first nine holes, including three straight birdies

(04:12):
on one, two and three, made birdies on eight and
nine and currently sits at five under par all alone.
We've had a couple players get the four under par today,
including Steven Jaeger, including Aaron Ry, they would end up
falling back down. Then finally Terrell Hatton got the four
under par, then Kate Corey Connors, then Justin Rose and

(04:32):
Rose went to five, and then Scotty Scheffler who just
made a long bird he put at sixteen. So currently
Justin Rose leading the way at five under par, and
then a three way tie in second place, Corey Connors,
who's actually the clubhouse leader after this first round with
a sixty eight. He shot four under, Scotty Scheffler who
is on the seventeenth poll at four under par, and

(04:53):
then Terrell Hatton who just hit his shot on the
sixteenth par three to about twenty to thirty feet. That's
a look to joined Justin Rose. Well, actually not, because
Justin Rose just made Bertie on the tenth hole, folks.
So Justin Rose has now made three straight birdies on eight,
nine and ten and ten's a tough hole, eleven footer

(05:13):
for Bertie.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Justin Rose all alone at six under par.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Now, remember it was the last season, the two thousand
and four twenty twenty four to twenty three. It was
twenty twenty three Justin Rose came out, was your first
round leader. He ended up shooting. That was the year
John Rahm would win. But Justin Rose actually the first
round shot up. No, Actually it may have been twenty
twenty two, So was three years ago that Justin Rose

(05:39):
was your first round leader. It may have been even
longer than that, but Rose has come out before and
has climbed the leaderboard.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, it was twenty twenty one.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Sorry shot up sixty five, led by four shots over
Brian Harmon, an eventual winner at deckie Matt Siama, so
not surprised to see the englishman. Justin Rose shows some
signs the life here, but six under par. Currently he's
got a two shot lead over Corey Connor Scotty Scheffler
into Lhattan. But of course Rose still lots of golf
left on the golf course. So Scotty, by the way

(06:12):
at four hundred is just playing your typical Scotty Scheffler
type round.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
No bogey so far on the scoreboard.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
For Scotty, made birdie at two of the par five,
made birdie on four with a very long birdie putt
from about thirty forty to fifty feet to go. The
two under par ended up making birdie on the par
five eighth hole, so made the turn at three under par.
Would go through aim and Corner without any noise, would

(06:42):
go par par park, including barring that thirteenth hole.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
The par five end.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Up making a par on the fifteenth hole, another part five,
but on the sixteenth hole just knocked down a long
birdie putt to get the four under par, So Scotty
Scheffler is at four under part despite no birding two
of the easier holes on the course. He's now on
the seventeenth hole as he is about one hundred and

(07:08):
thirty nine yards away from the green, an absolute smoke
of a drive down the seventeenth side, left side of
the fair away.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
So he's in the first cut there.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
But we'll have a short iron into a back hole
pain location with two holes left on the day. And again,
Scotty Scheffler, if you look at his results in the
two years that he won the Masters. In fact, going
back to the last twenty years, guys eighteen of the
last twenty winners at Augusta were in the top ten

(07:39):
after the first day of the After the first day
of the Masters, So do you want to know who's
probably going to win the tournament, look at the top
ten the leader board. Only the only two guys who
were able to win it outside the top ten after
Thursday's round tiger Woods. Tiger Woods last year, Scotty was
second tut a sixty six, one shot behind Bryson, of course,

(08:00):
guy who would go.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
On to win.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
And then in two thousand and twenty two, the first
year that Scotty won the Masters. After his first round
he was at let's see Ty for third the sixty nine,
two shots back. So Scotty is in that fantastic place again.
You want to be in that top ten, so kind
of looking at like you want to be, Oh, let's

(08:22):
see you want to You probably want to at least
be in.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
With a two underd round of the day.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
So you're looking at a seventy seventy or lower to
be in an any sword of contention, possibly for winning
the Masters this season. Jordan speak by the way now
putting on the sixteenth hole a long birdie putt that
just grazes the side of the hole and rolls by
about six or seven yards. He's had a very speed
like day. Actually at one point was only one shot

(08:47):
back of the lead. But he's been up and down
and all over the course. At Augusta ended up making
birdie on the first hole, poured in a thirty footer
believe it or not, on the first hole to get
to one under par. They would end up making par
on the second hole. We miss about a seven footer
for birdie. On the third hole that slightly drivable par

(09:08):
three would hit a beautiful approach shot to about seven feet,
would make the birdie putt, so he was two under.
On the fourth hole, par three, ended up hitting his
his first shot to about ninety two feet away with
three putt for bogey. Would make a birdie on the
eighth hole to get back to two unders. So Speeds
would make the turn at two under par, one shot

(09:31):
back from Scotti Scheffer for the lead, and would end
up making double bogie from the fairway on the tenth hole,
got too much golf ball out of his bunker shot,
would hit his fourth shot to about seven feet. We
missed the putt for bogie, ends up making double. Would
go see the eleventh hole that downhill left to right
par four, that's an absolute man of the hole, would

(09:53):
make a thirty footer for birdie. So now he's packed
back to one under par and then would play Amen's
or will play the rest of amon corner two over
part including boging the twelfth hole went long and left,
and then on the par five to thirteenth hole, would
hit his second shot out of bounds, would make bogie
on that and they would three pot in the fourteenth

(10:14):
greef for a bogey.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
So he went bogey bogey bogey.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
He just made birdie on the par five to fifteenth
hole to get back to one over par, but right
now has a lengthy par putt on the sixteenth hole
to remain at one over par. He is currently tied
for four youth and is coming off a Master's appearance
last season where he missed the cut. So Speith, who
playing in his eleventh Masters, has only missed the cut twice,

(10:40):
so he's trying to keep his hopes alive of winning
a second green jacket. More than come, including c J.
Vogel up next year on the Craigways Show. Of course,
you can listen to us free on the iHeart Radio app.
Just getting started to hear on this Thursday afternoon. Cameron
Parker filling in for Craig Way, who will be joining
us from Lexington, Kentucky in about an hour or so,

(11:02):
but joining us now from on Texas Football Course Texas
Football insider and recruiting analysts.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Fogel from on Texas Football. You can follow him on
Twitter at CJ Fogal Underscore OTF. CJ thanks for joining
us in first off, I want to know how are
you doing emotionally after seeing Luca Doant just returned to
Dallas last night, but playing in a Lakers uniform.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
Yeah, that sucks.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Man.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
That wasn't fun for anybody. I mean, just watching him
watch his tribute video.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
I took it out of me.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Man.

Speaker 6 (11:34):
I didn't like it. I didn't like it one bit.
I still can't believe the trade happened. But you know,
he's with Lebron now, so I'm runing for the two
of them to go get a championship together.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
So today, Trey Wisner and Arch Manning visited with the media.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Today.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
You were out there just your overall first impressions. It's
the first time we've seen players speak to the media
outside of coach Sarkisian. What was your general takeaway from
from both Arch and Trey.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (11:59):
I thought Ars handled it well. I mean he's spoken
to the media before, you know, in terms of, you know,
some post game stuff, but for him to be QB
one now it's part of the job, and I thought
he handled it very well. There's some jokes in there.
Until you know, are good friend Kirk Boles. He could
hook him up with some vor you out of his
new NIL deal, so you know.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
There's some laughs.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
He was lighthearted, but at the end of the day,
he knows it's the business. He knows this is part
of the job, and you know, I think this is
going to be something that he handles very well throughout
his Texas career.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Looking at Trey Wisner in this Texas running back room,
of course, Christian Clarks CJ. Baxter had went down with
season ending injuries. It's a running back room that will
be without Jaydon Blue, of course, who.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Declared for the NFL Draft.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
How do you think this running back room is taking
shape about halfway through springball.

Speaker 6 (12:49):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see STJ. Baxter figures
back into this group. Of course, the big thing with
this unit in twenty twenty five is you know, you
got five healthy bodies right now. That wasn't the case
last year. Of course, you had your two injuries in
the spring with CJ. Baxer and Christian Clark, and Delton Gardner,
who they picked up late in the portal joined the

(13:09):
squad and you know very quickly was out from the
season as well. So Texas realistically last year was only
dealing with about two and a half to three and
a half running backs when you consider Ryan Nibblett in
that room. So right now, the overarching theme is plenty
of bodies, plenty of different skill sets and trading. Weisner
is the one leading the charge. So who becomes your
pass pro guy, who becomes your short yard this guy,

(13:29):
who becomes your goal line guy, and who becomes a
guy that you rely on out of the backfield in
the passing game all up for grabs right now. But
it's going to be Trey Wiser's I guess leadership and
experience that leads the charge going into the summer.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Is that a spot you think Sark and the offense
may end up targeting in the transfer portal this year?

Speaker 6 (13:51):
You know, it's interesting if the right guy approaches. You know,
if the right guy comes into the portal again, Sarcasian
has been proven to to go out there and find
anybody that will help this team, and even at positions
that maybe weren't expected out of the portal originally. I
think right now you've got plenty of guys that are
coming along.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Of course, Christian Parks.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Looked really good.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
We've heard a lot of positives about James finding the
true freshman that's been on campus for about four months now,
so We'll see what they do. But I think this
room is pretty healthy, especially if a CJ.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Baxter returns fully healthy.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Another room that's dealing with some injuries the receiver room
with Ryan Wingo. He's unavailable in spring ball hamstring injury,
DeAndre More not participating in spring ball. So it's opened
the door for some of the younger guys to come
in and develop a relationship and that chemistry with Archie Manning,
who is some of the guys so far that have
been getting a lot of reps in spring ball, CJ.

(14:46):
That you're keeping an eye on that may end up
playing a big role in this Texas offense come fall.

Speaker 6 (14:52):
Yeah, the big man that we've heard so far is
Parker Livingstone, and I'm not sure if that's a surprised
the many who got to see him out of high school.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
Of course, was healthiest senior year.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
We got to see him for some mop up duty
last year. But look, if Trey Wiser has given you
the nickname white Chocolate, I think he got a roll
with it. Of course, Archie Manning had some praise for him.
The two live together, so I know that there is
a good string of success with a former Texas quarterback
and wide receiver that lived together way back when, so
that's a good sign. Jamie French, Cleek Lockett, they come

(15:23):
up as well. But Dayla McCutcheon, maybe you know that
guy coming into the twenty twenty five season, You know,
maybe you weren't expecting to hear a lot about him,
but this absence of DeAndre Moore has really allowed him
to take some of these reps. And we've heard Sarkisian
talk about him, our T Fanning's spoken about him. He's
turning head So far.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
It's going to be a Texas secondary that will look different,
both on the sidelines and on the field. So many
new names coaching wise, of course, twenty Kisa stepping In
returning to Austin, Terry Joseph no longer with the program
then also a lot of big names to part for
the NFL draft, of course, Shatty Baron who will likely
be a first round draft.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Pick, who defensively cej.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
How different do you think the secondary will will look
in terms of the style of play and is there
going to be do you think maybe a grace period
for this Texas defense to kind of get back to
how they were defensively? The secondary last season with so
many new names and so many new coaches.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting because I think everything kind
of builds off of what Texas utilizes up front with
that pass For us, of course, I think I was
a big benefactor last year with the secondary.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
But again no Makouba, no John A. Barron.

Speaker 6 (16:38):
Those two were really really good combined for ten picks.
But I love this cornerback room and sharpstout on Tuesday,
this is the best looking room in his locker room.
Happened on That's really interesting. Of course, we know Jalen
Gilbo has played some meaningful football. Malik Muhammad again a
guy who's played a lot of outside corner we kind
of expect him to be, you know, sett in own

(17:00):
at the moment. But how does the competition for that
second corner stock go with Gilbo, with the Kobe Black,
with the Sampana Wilson. You know, of course five star
Kate Phillips, who is very talented in his own right.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Can he make it flash?

Speaker 6 (17:12):
So you got four guys that I think are all
super talented and looking exactly like what Pyxris wants at
its cornerback room. A lot of length, a lot of speed.
That's that allows for a lot more mando man than
we've seen in previous years, which only helps that pass
rush when you're able to unleash another Anthony Hill or
trade more Brad Spence from the second level.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
And we've heard Sark also talked about, you know, the
key defensive line takes they took in their French report thing.
They had three new buys of course, almost replacing that
entire defensive line. How how how those guys look so
far so far in springball? CJ of course, I mean,
you know how big of a role the defensive line
is going to play in having a successful defense throughout

(17:53):
the season.

Speaker 6 (17:54):
Yeah, that still might be a working progress for now.
You know, we're gonna have to wait and see just
how this grew gels together. Of course, Alex January is
expected to take a massive leap forward into that main rotation.
I'm expecting him to be a starter for Texas come
the fall. Cold Rivard that other sturdy, just consistent piece
on over the nose. Travis Shaw a bit limited right now,

(18:17):
and he's been dealing with a lingering knee issue as well,
So I definitely think Texas is still going to be
active in the portal for defensive lineman. The real question
is how can am run Charles or how can it
just Cya Sharman too early?

Speaker 3 (18:29):
En?

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Really, how can they move forward and start to become
guys that are relied upon in the fall, because Texas
is going to need just about everybody in this room
to step up if they're planning on playing thirteen, fourteen
to fifteen games again.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
In twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Five, we saw Texas at a punter and the transfer portal.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
What about a kicker after spring ball?

Speaker 3 (18:49):
CJ.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
Yeah, I know that's been a hot topic for Texas fans.
So far, I've not heard a whole lot in terms
of what Texas might do when the spring portal window
opens up. Of course, it's been Willstone, It's been Vert
Auburn battling it out again this spring. I'd put my
money on who would be kicking this weekend trid Texas
have a game, it would be Vert Auburn.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah, I know it.

Speaker 6 (19:10):
TEXTA fans might have grimaced a little bit here in that,
so we'll see what they end up doing. But I
would be a little bit surprised if if there's a
whole lot of movement there.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Talking with Cjfogo from on Texas Football. CJ, we saw
report come on from on three Sports, and if you
saw this maybe ten years ago, your head would spin.
But this shows you kind of where the landscape of
college football is right now is And the tweet was
at Tennessee and Nico Iamaliava the volunteers quarterback are an
active contract negotiations ahead of the twenty and twenty five season.

(19:43):
That statement alone is so bizarre, but it kind of
speaks to where we're at right.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Now in college football.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
The other side of it, I think is Arch Manning
the most popular recruit probably in the history of college football.
All his stories seem to be about him staying an
extra year.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
So I think CJ.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
All the concern about Arch and his his popularity and
you know, there's no way he's going to stay at Texas.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
He's not going to stay behind Queen yours.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Well, here we are, he's on campus and you talked
about his maturity.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
We've heard Sar talk about his competitive spirit.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
It seems like Arch Manning, despite the last name, despite
the talent, is kind of in his own class in
terms of how he handles himself compared to other quarterbacks
who are in contract negotiations here in springball.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
Yeah, it's certainly a luxury that Texas is lucky to
be in. Right when it comes to not having to
deal with I don't want to call it a headache,
but that extra attention that comes with the media headlines
there and of course arch Will will garner his own attention.
Of course that's to be expected. But we heard it
firsthand today at the media availability. Ar said, Yeah, I've

(20:52):
only ever wanted to be at textis you know everything
else on the portal noise, you know, all the talk
about me potentially leaving now, you know, good things.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
I just wanted to wait this one out.

Speaker 6 (21:03):
I wanted to be at Texas and you know, sometimes
things are worth waiting for. And I think that speaks
a lot to his maturity. But also, you know, this
is the guy that goes out in the city of Austin,
gets recognized everywhere, says he wants to just be a
college kid. He wants to do that here in Austin.
I think touch of fans should be very appreciative of that,
and I know that they're glad to be here.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
That that's the case.

Speaker 6 (21:25):
So it's something that Texas is very fortunate to be
in a position to not have to worry about quarterback,
leaving a quarterback, dealing with potential portal buyouts, or what's
to come with this world of AML. So certainly a
luxury to the Horns.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Here two weeks away from the NFL Draft, the first round,
how many Texas Longgorns are you expecting to see go
on opening day?

Speaker 6 (21:50):
On opening Day, I think the number three. I would
be a little surprised that there's more than that. I'd
be even more surprised if there were less than that.
Kelvin Banks, Mackew Golden, jot A barn And I tweeted
it while I was at the combine. You know, Matthew Bolton,
you can go ahead and book your plane ticket to
Green Bay to go shape the Commission's hand on day one.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
And he did just that.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
But John A.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Baron Kelvin Banks, I think there are definitely lots to
go in the top twenty five or so. And that
was said, a new Texas record for first round packs
in a singles draft, and that's something I think Texas
tran should be very celebratory about as well.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
It seems like when you were kind of hovering around
that third round mark a little bit surprising to me, CJ.
But what do you credit to maybe his drop in
falling down the mock draft SERI? And where do you
end up seeing him land in terms of what round
he will be drafted in.

Speaker 6 (22:41):
You know, it's pretty interesting with Quinn.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Of course your nails.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
He's really really good within twenty yards and then that lingering,
testy beat ball has just continued to.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
Be a pain for him.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
And I think that that's something that when you look
at how these NFL scouts and executives are judging, is
you know, play style is that he doesn't create a
whole lot with his legs, so he has to be
good throwing.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
The ball down the field.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Well, if he's not doing both, look, he's super good
at that the NFL, or that you can separate yourself
with in the NFL, And that's kind of the big
hinderance on his recruiting or his draft grate.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
At the moment, I.

Speaker 6 (23:21):
Think a third round grade is fine. Will he's sneaking
to the second, I wouldn't be surprised, but a third
round is basically where I'm expecting him.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
The ball right now, all.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Right, and last question for you.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
It is the Master's week, It's the best golf tournament
of the year. I know you're a big golf and
I know you have Master's picks. I know you got
about ten different first round leaders on your on your
betting board. Who do you have overall though, to win
the green jacket this week?

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Well, if I can't.

Speaker 6 (23:48):
Pitch Scotty because I mean, let's be honest, he's a
machine when it comes to playing at a GUSSA. I
really want to rock with Max Forragerman, a little long
shot action right there.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
I don't no one to expect from that one.

Speaker 6 (24:00):
But it's not a windy week in Augusta for Wyndham
Clark is this guys are going to look pretty grave.
We're going to Max arrangerment, how about it?

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Hey, seventy one for Grazerman in the clubhouse. He's only
five shots back from Justin Rose, so hey, not a
bad pick. And Wyndon Clark even park just getting started. Hey, CJ,
thanks so much for.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
The time, man.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
I appreciate you and we'll see you around.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Absolutely can appreciate you having me on store.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
That's CJ.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Fogel from on Texas Football. Make sure you check out
his work on Texas Football dot Com, Bobby Burton, Rod Babers,
the entire Gang, and of course follow CJ on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
CJ Fogel underscore OTF up.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Next on this Thursday edition inconceivable here on the Craigway Show,
it is fitting that we do have the host of
this show, the host of this program, Craig Way, even
though he is on the road and in Lexington, Kentucky,
it is fitting that we do have him join us
here hour two on.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
This Thursday edition.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
And Craig, it is a Master's Thursday, and I was thinking,
no one, no one enjoys food more than me.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
I think you.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I think you're on that list. And I'm looking at
the master's concession prices. Of course, a dollar fifty four
in egg salad, dollar fifty for a mento cheese, three
dollars for a Master's club, three dollars for a park
barbecue sandwich, and of course three dollars for a Georgia
peach ice cream sandwich, and two for water, two for soda,
six dollars for beer or wine. So I wanted to

(25:22):
ask you, Craig. First off, I hope you're doing okay.
If you had ten dollars to build your perfect Master's
concession meal ten dollars, what would you buy?

Speaker 5 (25:36):
I would probably think good afternoon. Yeah, I would probably
have an egg salad sandwich, a permeno cheese sandwich, a
pork barbecue sandwich.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Can a lemonade? Does that add up to tim? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (25:47):
I think you're in the clear. I like that, So
lemonade over beer, which which is fitting. But you said
pimento cheese, that's your exit.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
Yeah, yeah, the answer is yes.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I'd have one of.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
These to maybe half of each, and save the because
so much is said about those two sandwiches. And by
the way, I'm sure you noticed that I did not
see this until yesterday.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Oh yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
I showed a team my friend Chris Edwards that we
had dinner with in Birmingham, the play by play voice
of Duke Baseball women's basketball. He got that taste of
the Master's Kit or samfort that say that you can
order and they send you what.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
A pint of the egg salad and a pint.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
Of the pomena cheese and a pint of the pork barbecue.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
It's the heck of the deal. I think I probably
need to do.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Something like that.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Now, I'll bet you they don't charge Masters Club prices.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
But I'd certainly be willing to give it a shot anyway.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
No, So it's it's one hundred dollars total and it
serves about four to six people. Now I don't know
what the serving size, Craig, I think that I think
I can mean, you can knock this out. But it's
twenty four ounces of their Pimento cheese dip, six bags
of their potato chips, you get six of their many
chocolate moon pies. You get a sleeve of twelve of

(27:01):
their Master's branded souvenir cups that goes well with you know,
the lemonade. Of course, you get a pack of twelve
Master's coasters, You get their Master's branded wax paper, and
then you get some printed menus, food cards, accessories. Now
bread and bund does not come with it, unfortunately, so
it's mostly just the pimento cheese or I believe what

(27:22):
Chris did. We went with a barbecue, which you can
choose from so barbecue or pimento cheese. But you know,
maybe one of these one of these years we just
do a Master's watch party and we go ahead and
just we buy this taste of the Master's kit. I
mean a hundred bucks is not too bad because I
don't think I'm not near that place.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Yeah, you're right, Heppy, and I'm definitely and I'm always
working on Master's weekend, like this week it happen to
be in Lexig, Kentucky. But it looks good. And by
the way, here's our man, Scottie Shefflerck got a four
or sixty eight to a good position. Rory looks pretty
solid playing number eleven. How about justin Rose that the
pasting brick with a with with a excellent round working.

(28:00):
You know, when we landed with the team, Cameron Keith
Morland and I jumped in the rental car where we're
headed to the hotel, and the first thing that came
out of his mouth was, boy, I hope there's a
placeheck and watch the Masters. I said, well, it's ONNYESPM
this afternoon. He got perfect, So sure though, I get.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
In the hotel room turning on thought was.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
On on the cable system here in the hotel, Lectin
on channel twenty five, So I texted him Masters is
on twenty five on it, so he's the question he
may not join me when I go over to the
ballpark later this afterdoing the took up the equipment and
the broadcast moved and get everything set up for the

(28:39):
three broadcasts this weekend.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Yeah, I got a filling.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Keith will have his feet up on the bed, you know,
maybe catching a fantastic afternoon nap and watching the back
nine of this Thursday edition. I mean Roy mcarray right
there as well, Correig. I mean the biggest issue with
with Roy during his time to trying to win the Masters,
He's gotten out to such bad starts on Thursdays, a
lot of seventy four or seventy five's.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
But here he is right now making the turn at three.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Under par, and a stata I shared earlier in the
program is eighteen. The last twenty winners of this golf
tournament have been inside the top ten after the opening
round except for Tiger Woods did it twice, but you
know Tiger's in his own different tier. But here's Scotty
Scheffler right now tied for second four under par, and
there's Roy McElroy at three under par. So this is

(29:25):
setting up to be a fantastic tournament. Of course, Bryce
and the Shamba, whether you love him or not, such
a patronizing figure. He's at two under par so all
the big names are playing well and the weather is
absolutely perfect in Augusta right now.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
What could you tell me about these other two guys?

Speaker 5 (29:42):
Connors who shot the sixty Is Terrell had right who
shot the sixty nine?

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Yes, Lord Terrell Haddon, Lord Terrell.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
Haddon, Okay, so he shot and Connors.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yes, he's Canadian fantastic ball striker. He's a player that
a lot of people have picked him to win or
picked him to do well in years past because of
his ability to strike the ball. I believe he's actually
shot a sixty five here at once. His best finish
overall is a T six back in twenty twenty two,

(30:14):
so he's been closed, hasn't been in super contention, but hey,
sixty eight will do that. Interroll hadn't currently now in
the Live Golf Tour. So, you know, casual golf fans
or just even regular golf fans probably have not heard
too much from the last couple of years because he's
been playing on the Live Golf Tour. He's finished in
the top ten here before as well, so he's a

(30:35):
fantastic player. Sixty nine for him, sixty eight for Connors.
And again, this course rewards great ball strikers, which is
why Justin Rose is leading the tournament and why Scotty
and Roy are up there.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
But also it rewards people who.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Can, you know, make putts inside the five to ten
feet margin. And I've been watching coverage all day. I know, Craig,
you've you've been traveling, getting writing on a plane. But
just because the weather's been nice, it does not mean
it's not playing tough. We're seeing a lot of guys
struggle even on the par fives. We're seeing some guys
like Coling Moore Kawa who at one point was time

(31:10):
for the league come out and he'll make a bogey
on a par five. And Craig, you know, scoring well
on the par fives is critical to winning this golf tournament.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
One guy who is playing pretty well to Decki Batsiama
and uh he.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
He is leading all.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
Active golfers right now in cuts made at majors.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
He's made nineteen consecutive cuts. So that's gonna get and
another we got to watch.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
Uh he's I think he's on number nine right now
we're a number number ten. Is Shane Lowry maybe the
most unattractive man ever to win a major?

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Wow?

Speaker 8 (31:46):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (31:46):
But but there?

Speaker 5 (31:47):
But there he is at two hunder part so he's
in the hunt right now.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
He said most unattractive man to win a major. Oh,
come on, that's a little unfair, is it not?

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Well, I I didn't say it was ugly. I just
maybe the most unner track, That's all I was saying there,
And hey, what does it matter.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
He's a major champion anyway, He won the Open Championship,
So what.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Difference does it make? Right?

Speaker 1 (32:10):
You're right, and he's two under through nine holes, currently.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Tied for six currently in the last place by himself
by about ten shots.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Is poor, Nick Dunlap.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
I believe he's twenty two years old, so I'm not
going to harpen him too much. Shut a ninety. Curious, Craig,
do you think you could shoot a ninety at Augusta
if you played from the forward tees?

Speaker 5 (32:34):
I think I could shoot a ninety playing from the
back piece, and then I would go to the.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Back nine and then and then see what I could
do for him.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
There, So no answer to your question there if if I.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Could shoot, you know, because people know me.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
Know I played four or five rounds of golf a year,
That's about it, and usually all of it while I'm
on vacation on.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
The North Carolina South Carolina Cutters. That's it.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
The only time I really have the play golf, and
I'm always rounding the same. My game never improves. It
might slightly regress, and by like the third of four
or five days when I play, it gets up. I'm
always around a twenty five to thirty handicapper. I mean,
if I break one hundred, I'm happy, you know inside.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Because I only played four or five times and I
do no lessons and none.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Of that stuff.

Speaker 4 (33:25):
So it's always going to be the same like that
for me every year.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
I have no expectations.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
I just enjoy when I go out to play golf
because I know I'm not going to have.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
You know, one of the.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
Most exciting moments of my golf life, I've had two.
One when I was sixteen, I shot an eighty nine.
It's the only time I've ever broken one hundred in
my life, and I mean broken ninety in my life.

Speaker 4 (33:50):
I shot an eighty nine. I peaked again.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
I think I'm.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
Seventeen, I peak at that point. But that was growing
up North Carolina, where I played golf a lot in.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
The summertime, alright, So there was that.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
And then the other.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
Time, I'm playing in a really tough course down in
the north Myrtle Beach areat near where I go vacation
called Oyster Bay, and for whatever reason, on the front nine,
I was just unconscious.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
I hit everything very very so I shot a forty
three on the front nine, and I'm so excited. I thought,
my gosh, I think I gotta I'm not only break
one hundred, I.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Got a chance to break ninety on this golf course.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
And I stand on number ten and you have to
drive it over as salt marsh, and I hit it
right into the salt marsh.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
I shot fifty.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
Seven on the back nine, exactly even one.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
I was like, oh, well, yep, that's my game.

Speaker 5 (34:32):
So yeah, those were the two moments on that So
I have zero expectations when I go out to play golf,
but I love, dearly loved watching championship golf, and.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
That's why it's fun to watch the majors.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Well, in speaking of expectations, you have a guy like
Nick Dunlap, who was a PGA Tour one of this
last season. He's twenty one years old, bloom of youth,
can hit the ball mile, goes out and shoots ninety.
Then you have someone like Freddy Couples, who plays once
or twice professionally each year, goes out and shoots a
seventy one Craig he's one under part tied for twelve

(35:10):
nineteen shots better. If you asked one hundred people, one
hundred golf fans, hey, I'm giving you either you take
Nick Dunlap or Freddy Couples to shoot a lower score today.
I'm going to think that all one hundred people are
taking the twenty one year old professional golfer Nick Dunlapp.
But it's Freddy Couple and that's a testament to one.
Freddy knows his course at the back of his hand.
He's won here multiple times in two Just because you're

(35:32):
younger doesn't mean you're going to play well. And that's
why golf is, as some call it, the perfect game.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Yeah, I agree, and I think there's an emotional thing.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
For fred Couples.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
This is his final Masters that he's playing again, and
you know, one at ninety.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
Two, and he says, you know, and there's.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
It is very, very emotional.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
My favorite memory of Fred Couples is when he won
the Byron Nelson and well, we were doing the Byron
Nelson Golf tournament on the radio in those days up
in Dallas. The KRLD kind of predated PGA Tour. Radio
was a lot like that, and we did stroke by
stroke coverage d EASL mobile transmitters on her back. We
followed the groups around and I was with Couples, and.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
He wins, and so this is in nineteen eighty seven.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
He wins, but he had to he had to make
a putt on the last hole to win it, and
he did and then his wife, at least his wife
at the time, comes up and gives him this big
hug on the green. And there's a big picture on
the front page of the Dallas Morning new Sports section
the next day, and it said Couples wins Byron Nelson.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
And I was looking at.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
It, and there was a woman working in our radio
stationtimes she said, I didn't know they let husbands.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
And wives play together. And I had to say, I
don't understand. So yeah, So I always think about that
with Fred couples, but he's playing his last one and
I'm sure it's an emotional ride for him.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
This week in Texas baseball, back on the baseball diamond
against Kentucky Craigs.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
This is your first trip to Lexington, I know.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
I think it's your first trip to what they call
it Kentucky Proud Stadium.

Speaker 5 (37:12):
Yeah, at Kentucky Crowd Park. It'll be my first time
to be in that ballpark. Going to go over in
about an hour to try to set up the equipment
and stuff and get ready.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
I've been to Lexington.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
The men played here in twenty thirteen. I think it
was Isaiah Taylor, had a tremendous game.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
They lost.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
Kentucky was number one or number two in the country,
really good, and Texas played himself lost at think by five,
and John Calipari got on the microphone to the crowd
atwards and said, this team.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Is going to be good. You wait and see.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Of course, that was the one time when Texas ended up.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
Missing the NCAA tournament under Rick Barnes, I think twenty thirteen,
but there was that, and I did a women's Sweet
sixteen game at Ruff Arena in twenty seventeen. Karen Asta
had three straight years of Texas making the Sweet sixteen,
twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
They got to the Elite eight of those years.

Speaker 5 (38:01):
Connecticut ended their season and then in twenty seventeen they
lost in the Sweet sixteen to a really good Stanford team.
So I've been there for basketball. Of course, this fall,
long Ward Football will be up here to play at
Commonwealth Stadium in football, so we'll see how.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
See how it goes from there. So it'll be my
first time in this ballpark.

Speaker 5 (38:20):
This Kentucky team started off ranked, was really good. They've
had some struggles late. They lost the game the Louisville
on Tuesday night, very similar to the one that Texas
lost the Louisville in the season open. In both cases
the game was two to two after nine innings. In
both cases the visiting team and it was Kentucky. The
other night it was Texas in the season opener in Arlington.

(38:42):
Scored a run in the top of the ten and
in both cases gave up two in the bottom of
the ten for lease for three to a right Louisville
team and Louisville number fourteen in the country.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
So Texas knows this isn't.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
This isn't going into Columbia, Missouri, and not even this
is at Peas State because I played.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
This is a better ball club.

Speaker 5 (39:00):
This was a program that was in Omaha last year
and it was a super regional team the year before.
So they're going to have a challenge on their hands.
But if Jared Spencer continues to pitch the way he's
pitching and the support they're getting from the bullpen, this ballpark,
I'm told it can be a hit or friendly part

(39:21):
depending on the weather conditions.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Now today it's a nice day. It's in the sixties.
Partley Clouds guys, there is a froup moving.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
In and they're concerned about tomorrow. It could really affect things.

Speaker 5 (39:33):
Tomorrow high to be in the fifties with rain Saturday
and Sunday supposedly better kind of like today, maybe a
little cooler in the high fifties something like that, so
it might be better there or low sixties. But tomorrow
is the biggest risk of having in claim up weather,
so we'll see how that sets up.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
That's how it's been every weekend though, Craig.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
I mean, we're used to this now, we're just trying
to get through a weekend without any sort of weather lays,
whether it's Texas baseball or softball, and we got through
it last weekend, but we wouldn't be surprised if it
aff access this week At five fifteen year time tomorrow
on one O three one FM, Craig Way and Keith
Muller will have to call Craig, thanks you stopping by
and we'll visit with you tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
Hey, I have to ask you this, when Luca got.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
All peered up last night, did you get a little
bit clem to yourself, you know the limits that you
got kind of choked up about it? And then then
dude goes out and drops forty five on the average. Now,
the happy story if you're a Maverick fan is they
back into the playoffs anyway since Phoenix lost last night,
so they wind up getting into that tent spot into

(40:36):
the play in. But you know, it was an emotional
moment last night, and I had two or three people
make a very good point and say, you know, maybe
that wasn't the best thing in the world because it
for Mavericks fans, it wasn't cathartic. All it did was
make people angry or and sad. All over again. But
it was a really nice video that did for Luca,

(40:58):
and he got, you know, kind of emotional about it obviously,
but then he went out and dropped forty five pointy
ting so in a game that the Lakers really needed
as well.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
I don't know if Mavericks fans will ever get closure,
right because I think about with Spurs fans to Kawhi
trade completely different, completely different, because obviously Kawhi Leonard asked
for a trade, whereas Lucas Luca was traded.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
But you know, when Kawhia left Toronto after winning an.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
NBA championship, if I was the MVPA to go to Los Angeles,
I think Spurs fans recognized, Okay, you know what, he
always wanted to go to La Luca.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
And the tribute to do Craig. He was cheering up.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
He didn't want to go to La He wanted to
end his career in Dallas. And I think for Mavericks
fans that made things worse last night.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
That's exactly the point I was trying to make there.
I don't think it was cathartic in any sense of it,
But you know what, if Mavericks management flaud it was
going to be. Then they made another big mistake. If
their thought was only to say, hey, look, Luca, we
appreciate what you've done, and even.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
After they said some discouraging things about him after the trade.
But if they truly.

Speaker 5 (42:05):
Mention it as a compliment to Lucid and mission accomplished,
they did their job because it was a really nice tribute.

Speaker 4 (42:10):
Obviously brought Luke at the tiers, but I think.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
It kind of backfired in terms of Maverick Stamps is.
All we did was make a mad all over again
thinking about here is this guy who is our hero
and everything, and he's been taken away from.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Us, especially if the Lakers go on a deep playoff run,
which the way they're playing would not be surprised. Well,
let's get to Kentucky Proud Park and hopefully is it
with you at some point tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
Craig, you bet we'll do it. Thanks Jim.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
All right, that's Craig Way joining us live from Lachington, Kentucky.
Remember Texas Baseball and Action this weekend. Friday and Sunday's
games will be on a one to three one FM.
Saturday's game will be on Sports Radio thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
The zone.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Of course, you can always listen to it for free
on the iHeart Radio app. We'll be back with more
coverage here. Hour two of the Creigway Show continues after this.
Thanks to Craig Way for stop and by and calling
in here from Lexington, Kentucky, As Texas Baseball in action
this weekend against the Kentucky Wildcats and SEC play. Craig
WAYE will have to call alongside Keith Morland all weekend

(43:11):
long on the free iHeart Radio app. Day one of
the Masters Underway. Your leader currently is still Justin Rose,
who is on the fifteenth hole right now, the par five.
He is holding strong at six under bar in fact,
could have stretched his lead the seven under but he
missed about a four foot putt for birdie on the
thirteenth hole. He is currently behind the green on the

(43:35):
fifteenth that long par five, but if he gets up
and down for Bertie, he will hold on to a
three stroke lead with just three holes left the play.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Corey Connors and Scotty Scheffler in.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
The Luck in the Clubhouse excuse me at four hundred
par a pair of sixty eight's for Connors and Scheffler
and Scottie himself visited with Michael Leaves from ESPN after
the round.

Speaker 9 (43:58):
Keffler started the first round of the Masters with a
score in the sixties.

Speaker 10 (44:03):
No bogies on the round as well.

Speaker 9 (44:04):
Wouldn't say it was easy out there, but how would
you assess the overall round?

Speaker 11 (44:08):
It definitely wasn't easy out there. The greens were starting
to firm up. It's definitely going to be a firm
Masters this year. And yeah, I thought I was playing
pretty tough out there. Did a good job of managing
my way around the course. Like you said, kept the
card clean with no bogies, and that making no bogies
around here, you're always going to have a pretty good score.

Speaker 9 (44:23):
This is the first time, says twenty twenty one, that
you've come here without recording to win. Prior to coming
to Augustin, you said earlier in the week though, that
despite being winless at this point, you were very confident
in your preparation. How did that manifest itself today in
your opening round.

Speaker 11 (44:35):
Well, yeah, I always trying to focus as much as
I can in my preparation. That's what gives me confidence
going into a tournament. And at the beginning of this year,
with the injury. I obviously wasn't as prepared as I
could have been without the injury. I still was as
prepared as possible for me, but you know, it was
nice having a little bit of time. I felt like
I was figuring stuff out. I was definitely learning from
not playing my best to start the year. But I

(44:56):
had some good starts. I had some starts that that
also weren't so good, but I was definitely I felt
like I was learning a lot and I felt, you know,
very prepared to go into this tournament.

Speaker 9 (45:04):
Two wins here in the last three years. How do
you continue to lean on that experience, Scotty as you
get towards the weekend.

Speaker 11 (45:10):
Well, I mean, yes, it's nice having the success here.
It's great having the success around the golf course. That's
something I can lean on mentally out there. But at
the end of the day, everybody starts to even par.
Last couple of tournaments don't matter. You know, there's a
group of guys in the golf course we got try
and beat this week, and that's what I'm focused on.

Speaker 10 (45:25):
Appreciate the time was always thanks, all right?

Speaker 2 (45:28):
So it was sixty eight for Scotty Scheffler. He is
two back of Justin Rose, is a clean scorecard, got
out to a birdie on two, a birdie on four
the par three, another birdie on a par five the
eighth hole, made the tournament three under par, would play
him and corner even parr including just making par on
the thirteenth hole, the par five, and even making par

(45:51):
on the fifteenth the par five, so only playing the
par five's two under par, but would convert a long
birdy putt on the sixteenth pole to finish that four under.
Great round for Scotty Scheffler could have been even better,
but when she pointed out, or as Michael Eaves pointed out,
no bogies on the scorecard, you can't win the Masters
on the first day, but you certainly can lose it.

(46:12):
Scotty Scheffler once again putting himself in fantastic position again
two time Masters champion. In both times he's been inside
the top ten after the first round. In fact, he's
been in second place both times, and he's currently tied
for second behind Justin Rose. He is tied with Corey
Conners at four under park and we're going to hear
more from Scotty Scheffler throughout today's show, including another post

(46:36):
round interview. Jordan Spithan with a one over par seventy
three on the day, he is tied for thirty seventh.
Roy Malcroy currently at three under par through eleven holes,
the long time golfer, who of course a favorite to
go into this tournament, has not won the Masters yet.
He needs to have to complete the quer Grand Slam,
and as we talked about with Craig, his Achilles Hills

(47:00):
has been the first round at Augusta, where he has
shot himself out of the tournament early on. Looking at
those last couple last couple of Masters appearances, he shot
a seventy two in twenty twenty three, he would end
up missing the cut there after a seventy seven on
a round two.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
He shot a seventy three. In twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Two, he would end up finishing second after a final
round sixty four behind Scotty Scheffard.

Speaker 1 (47:23):
Remember Scotty kind of ran away with that tournament.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
Remember he infamously went four putted the eighteenth hole and
still won by a couple of shots, so a second
place but kind of a non compete second place. In
twenty twenty one, he missed a cut a seventy six
in the first round twenty twenty a T five, but
shot at seventy five in the opening round. Imagine if
you just shot a regular round on that Thursday and

(47:47):
then twenty nineteen again over par as seventy three would
finish T.

Speaker 1 (47:52):
Twenty one.

Speaker 2 (47:52):
He is not shot in the sixties on opening day
since twenty eighteen. In fact, overall in his Master's career,
he's only shot seventy twice, and both those times he
finished tied inside the top fifteen T fifteen twenty eleven. Remember,
I believe he was actually leading on the tee box
on the final day heading into the back nine before

(48:13):
he hooked it out of bounce on the tenth hole
eleventh hole ended up shooting an eighty in that final round.
That was when sharl Schwoltzel what berdie the last four
holes to win his first and only major champion. Then
the sixty nine to twenty eighteen would finish tied for fifth,
which shoot a seventy four in the final round. He
was in the final pairing with Patrick Reid in twenty eighteen.

(48:35):
That year that Jordan Speed made that near comeback finished
to win the Masters and would end up finishing what
I believe tied for third or third place behind Ricky Foller.
But again the key forer Rory is can he shoot
under par and not shoot himself out of the tournament
on opening day? And so far three hundred part Right
now he is playing Amen corner. He is on the

(48:57):
twelfth hole, and we'll catch a look and see where
he's currently at right now on the golf course, as
it looks like he is not teed off yet on
the twelfth hole, a hole that has infamously acclaimed many
many golf balls and has ruined the hopes of many
green jackets for many golfers in the field. Justin Rose,

(49:17):
by the way a birdie on the fifteenth hole. He
is now seven under par, three shots clear of Scottie
Scheffler and Corey Conners. We'll be back to wrap up
our number two of today's program here on the free
iHeart Radio app.

Speaker 1 (49:33):
One hour to go here on the Craig Ways.

Speaker 2 (49:36):
Show up with Justin Rose pulling in a party put
on the seventeenth sorry sixteenth hole. He is now eight
under par, four shots clear of Scottie Scheffler and Corey Connors.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
Currently through this opening round at Augusta.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
Justin Rose has won one major championship, a US Open
at Marion.

Speaker 1 (49:56):
Can he win a.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
Second major championship capture his first ever Green jacket. He's
played very well in this tournament before, but has never
been able to close the deal. Coming up on today's program,
when we're hour to go, we're gonna hear from Arch
Manning as he spoke with the media today about QB one,
his new nil deals, all that, but wanted to kind

(50:19):
of close the door on the Luka doncicch Dallas Mavericks
Los Angeles Lakers game last sight and here from Luka
Doncics as well. Again Luca's first ever game in Dallas
since the trade, a one to twelve ninety seven victory
the Lakers. Luca had thirty one points at halftime. He
was the only Laker in double figures at halftime, ends
up with forty five points on sixteen to twenty eight,

(50:41):
shooting seven to ten from three, six and nine at
the line, eight rebound, six assists, force deals, just your
typical Luca masterpiece performance. Would end up scoring seven straight
points in the fourth quarter to effectively close the door
on Dallas and maybe get Mavericks fans a little closure.

Speaker 1 (51:04):
Maybe not as.

Speaker 2 (51:05):
Nico Harrison and the organization all watched as Luca did
luk at things, but did it in Lakers green, or
rather Lakers gold in purple. So here's Luca Dodgers last
night postgame talking about his return to Dallas.

Speaker 12 (51:24):
Luca, how did you go from the emotions of the
video and the fans and the reception and everything to then,
you know, playing the way that you played.

Speaker 7 (51:35):
A good question?

Speaker 13 (51:37):
No, like I said post game in after David like,
I was like, there's no way I'm playing this game
though it was so many emotions, and you know, I
just went out there.

Speaker 7 (51:49):
And just played bas stool.

Speaker 1 (51:51):
When you checked out or.

Speaker 14 (51:53):
There's a time out, I guess before you checked out,
you had forty five points, come to the bench some
of the fans and they were in a chance and
your Laker teammates are jumping up and down and chanting
it too.

Speaker 1 (52:03):
What was that moment like for you? And how do
you think this?

Speaker 14 (52:07):
Uh was an eventful day for the Lakers as a
team and you being a part of them.

Speaker 13 (52:12):
Big time because they all had my back and so
we talked about before the game and everybody had my
back from coaches to players and you know, we're trying
to build something special here and and that.

Speaker 7 (52:24):
Was pretty really really nice to see.

Speaker 1 (52:27):
I know we talked about this last time a little bit.

Speaker 15 (52:29):
You said, you know it was gonna be emotional night,
but you weren't fully sure what to expect.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
I guess when you woke up this.

Speaker 15 (52:35):
Morning, even got serena more so even pregame, like what
were you feeling as you know, you walked through the
arena for the first time in a while, as you
you know, you see these faces like what we what
were you feeling those specifically?

Speaker 13 (52:47):
Well, it was a little bit of both, you know,
happy and angry, but you know it's nice to see, uh,
some formiliar faces here. You know, I spent a lot
of times with them. Uh, But you say, you know,
it was a lot of emotions. When I woke up,
I was tired and I didn't sleep much. I was
excited about this game, and you know, I really appreciate

(53:09):
the fence, the way they reacted to me.

Speaker 16 (53:12):
Luca, what was the exhale like after the exhale, was
there a sigh of relief for exhaustion from you? After
after tonight to be able to put I'm tired.

Speaker 7 (53:24):
I'm tired, but you know, I'm happy. I'm happy so
I can get some sleep finally.

Speaker 13 (53:32):
But like I said, it was an amazing experience, you know,
like I said, the fence, the way they accept.

Speaker 7 (53:37):
Me, you know, true for me, it was just unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (53:43):
Luca.

Speaker 17 (53:43):
You had that moment after you checked out where you
got a standing ovation from the crowd, you got a
standing ovation from the bench, and then you sat down
and you were surrounded by everyone standing. What was going
through your head there when you kind of sat by
yourself for like thirty seconds.

Speaker 13 (53:59):
Honestly, I don't really know. I wasn't even thinking. I
was just I was just, you know, happy. I wasn't
with I'm sorry. I don't know what to say because
I wasn't with it thinking. I was just saying, there,
it's over. You know what we want and I have
had a great time.

Speaker 12 (54:19):
Look, they've alluded to this a little bit, but not
just tonight's win, but you know, beating okay, see in
the way that you did hanging in in the second game,
what kind of collective confidence Lets just give you, guys,
as you know you still need one win to secure
the three seed. But what confidence does it give you
as you approached the playoffs.

Speaker 13 (54:34):
I mean, first, it was a big time that we Uh,
the week I clinched playoff spot, you know, it's a
big time. You don't want to play in playing you know,
you get some rest, but obviously we want the third
seat and we're gonna go after it for sure. Look,
if you can explain and spanishenpel to start in the video,

(54:58):
he went on one of which you know, movement.

Speaker 7 (55:15):
Mina, so you're ok uh, and so.

Speaker 13 (55:22):
He went and which he went.

Speaker 7 (55:28):
Simple lane.

Speaker 3 (55:32):
Like you see that.

Speaker 16 (55:36):
Lucas, specifically during that pregame video, what were some of
the moments that I found you made you most emotional?
Was there anything in particular that really stuck out to
you as you kind of looked back as that sort
of you know, your basketball career in America kind of
compressed in the two minutes.

Speaker 13 (55:55):
Well, I mean all of it, for sure, But I
mean I would probably say that the shot in the
finals of the conference on the conference finals, you know,
we were always the underdog and every serious so the
way we came together and played together, Uh, it was
just another level and everybody, everybody was locked in and

(56:19):
I would say that was that was the moment when
I remember last.

Speaker 18 (56:22):
Year look At, there was a lot of moments there
with your former teammates. You had exchanges, you had embraces.
What was that like for you personally? Just giving everything
you just mentioned you've been through them and then so
you had a moment there with a d at the
end and what can you share about that conversation?

Speaker 13 (56:38):
Yeah, I mean those those are like I say, you know,
it was my brothers. I know we're not on the
same team now, but I always have contact with them.
We went to wards together, and you know, it was
just like it was nice to see everybody uh in
the you know, with the d Uh we got traded
for each other. So from now and everybody gonna compare
us to Uh, I think he's an amazing player and

(57:01):
I think he's going to do really good than dollars.

Speaker 19 (57:10):
Look at.

Speaker 18 (57:10):
You know, you spoke back in February about how it
will take time for closure, and you said after this
game on the broadcast, it's time to move on.

Speaker 19 (57:17):
You do let you have closure.

Speaker 7 (57:23):
It's a hard question. I mean, for sure, it's a
little bit more.

Speaker 19 (57:27):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (57:27):
You know, talking about closure sometimes hard because like I said,
I spent a lot of time here in great moments,
but it's like I said, it's a good more and
more and I got to focus on different things now.

Speaker 1 (57:41):
That's to Lucas point there.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
I don't know if closure will ever come about for
for Dallas Mavericks fans after this trade.

Speaker 7 (57:56):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
Again, a lot of the discourse you saw on social
media last night trying to make sense of it, and
I don't think we ever will. And even if the
Mavericks somehow win a championship with Ad and Kyrie Irving,
I think Maverick fans are still always going to be
one upset at this trade and two never never will

(58:22):
move away from being Luca fans. I mean, you look
at the arena last night, the Luca jerseys, whether they
were Mavericks jerseys with the Mavericks crossed out and Lakers
taped over it, or Laker Luca jerseys. There was a
Lakers fire Nico jersey. This trade will go down as
one of the worst trades I think of all time,

(58:45):
And depending on what happens with Luca's career in the Lakers,
I don't think Mavericks fans will get closer, especially especially
if Nico Harrison is fired and this moves on, or
the Mavericks organization does change, just we'll be looked back
as a fair every dark period of time for the Mavericks.
But as Lucas said, it's time for him to move on,
and for Mavericks fans, I just don't know if they'll

(59:08):
be able to ever move on from the Luca trade.
That's all we got for the Luca trade. That's enough
for y'all. Sorry for bringing up the emotional pain from
that last night, but we'll continue on with today's show.
Up next, arch Manning QB one. First time this spring
he has spoken with the media. What did he have
to say about possibly spending four years in Austin. That's

(59:30):
up next on the Craigway Show QB one. Arch Manning
visited with the media today after what practice number eight
or nine in the spring football well underway. Remember no
Orange white game this year. There will be a ut
fan fest however, April twenty sixth Saturday. In fact, we're
gonna have a live show out outside DKR. Believe we're

(59:50):
gonna be outside Gate eight. Craig my Cars, myself and
some other guests as well special guests previewing Texas spring
football get closer and closer to opening day in August
of this year. So, without further ado, here's Arch Manning
from today's media availability.

Speaker 8 (01:00:09):
How's that kind of your first sprance, kind of the start?

Speaker 19 (01:00:12):
How's that going for you so far?

Speaker 10 (01:00:14):
A couple of weekscited good? Feels good.

Speaker 20 (01:00:16):
We got a good team, a bunch of good guys,
so I'm excited to start taking some more than one reps.

Speaker 8 (01:00:20):
Marsh, how much time did you spend prior to in
this year throwing to some of the guys you know
who are now coming up here, the Aaron Butler's Parker
with the Sells.

Speaker 19 (01:00:28):
Did you spend a lot of time with them when
you were Q two and QB three.

Speaker 10 (01:00:31):
Yeah, you know, I live with Parker and a bunch
of those guys.

Speaker 20 (01:00:33):
When you're the backups, you spend a lot of time
together in practice and getting those reps.

Speaker 10 (01:00:37):
So it's cool now we're all running with the ones.

Speaker 19 (01:00:40):
Can it be? Can it be overstated?

Speaker 6 (01:00:43):
It's just the importance of you got that game experience
last year, and.

Speaker 19 (01:00:47):
You got all that a lot.

Speaker 21 (01:00:47):
Of experience more than just a random back then, And
how that does that make the transition smoother.

Speaker 20 (01:00:53):
Yes, there definitely. Anytime you can get game reps, that's
just such a help and I'm really glad I got
to play in those games.

Speaker 19 (01:01:00):
What was the biggest thing you learned?

Speaker 10 (01:01:01):
You think just you know the speed of the game.

Speaker 20 (01:01:03):
It's also a good way for me to play in
front of people, front of one hundred thousand, so that
was definitely the biggest thing for me.

Speaker 19 (01:01:11):
Marching hindsight, how much did Quinn try to help you
over the last two years.

Speaker 10 (01:01:13):
Just to get them comfortable and get you ready to
go now?

Speaker 20 (01:01:16):
Yeah, Quinn's been great. I was just with him this
past weekend at Hayden Connor's wedding.

Speaker 10 (01:01:20):
He's just been so good at me over the years.

Speaker 20 (01:01:22):
It's probably pretty annoying having me as the backup, just
with all the media stuff, but he handled it like
a champ and he was so good to me along
the way.

Speaker 19 (01:01:30):
Do you think it's anoight?

Speaker 20 (01:01:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (01:01:32):
Yeah, it comes along for sure for sure.

Speaker 11 (01:01:34):
Sorry, how do you do how do you take the
media of the hype?

Speaker 8 (01:01:41):
You're probably gonna be the one of the most talking
about person if you're not already going into the season,
and yet you.

Speaker 19 (01:01:47):
Seem to like let it roll off your back. You're
this is a humble.

Speaker 8 (01:01:50):
Guy, said something from a family. Your family has taught
you that. If that's just how you are. How do
you handle that and separate this fandom versus you know,
your job?

Speaker 10 (01:02:00):
Yeah? I think thankfully.

Speaker 20 (01:02:02):
I have good people in my corner, good support group,
my family, my friends, keep me honest. So that's been Uh,
that's been kind of the key for me.

Speaker 22 (01:02:10):
Do you feel pressure to void any kind of drop
off from the level Quinn ahead.

Speaker 19 (01:02:14):
Of the last few years.

Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
No, I don't.

Speaker 10 (01:02:16):
I don't think about that.

Speaker 20 (01:02:17):
I'm just trying to go execute, get completions and move
the ball forward.

Speaker 10 (01:02:21):
Do go quick?

Speaker 23 (01:02:21):
To go back to what Terry was asking, I happen
to see you some of the guys out at Matt's one.

Speaker 6 (01:02:25):
Night, and just people just wouldn't eat, won't It's like damn,
you know, and that's gotta be every time he'll go out.

Speaker 19 (01:02:33):
How do you how do you handle.

Speaker 10 (01:02:36):
Yeah, that's been tough.

Speaker 20 (01:02:37):
I think I have good people to lean on for
that type of stuff. But like I said, I can't
quit doing normal things like I'm gonna go eat dinner
with my buddies and be a normal college kid.

Speaker 8 (01:02:46):
For when you do throw that into the interception for
your booze.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:02:50):
Yeah, you gotta be prepared for everything. I think that.

Speaker 20 (01:02:55):
I mean, it's coming, It's coming, so I'm prepared and
I'll be ready.

Speaker 21 (01:02:59):
Hey, Archie of the charge into the fans at the
last game with that ron against Ohio State.

Speaker 19 (01:03:04):
But you can come back when you.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Danmed on that play.

Speaker 10 (01:03:07):
Yeah, I mean that guy hit me pretty hard, but
I was fine.

Speaker 21 (01:03:12):
Ty archb Heart from sark on Tuesday. You know, your energy,
your competitiveness is driving some of the defense. Also, what
comes with that is some talk, some smack talk on again,
what's that like?

Speaker 10 (01:03:22):
The falling it in and how does that maybe both
tis fall about it.

Speaker 20 (01:03:26):
I think that's just the competition we have in this team. Obviously,
Colin and are good players, and it's kind of fun
and practice is going to talk a little crap to them,
saying with Taff that just makes practice more fun.

Speaker 19 (01:03:36):
Trey was saying it's.

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
A young team, but like a lot of that confuses
a lot of energy.

Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
As someone that's maybe not as young anymore, what do
you see from these younger.

Speaker 19 (01:03:44):
Guys how it might be a positive thing for you guys.

Speaker 20 (01:03:46):
Yeah, it's really cool to see these young guys want
to be good and they bring good energy and that
what's make that's what makes practice more fun. And they
want to be good, so that's that's encouraging.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
Arch Do you think you're gonna be able to run
with the same physicality, the infrequency and how to hear Starter?

Speaker 19 (01:04:01):
That's any new change to in regard to head incredible.

Speaker 10 (01:04:04):
I think I'm always gonna have to use my legs
when I can.

Speaker 20 (01:04:07):
My grandfather tells me all the time, just get down
or get out of bound, so he wants to play
for a while.

Speaker 6 (01:04:12):
Archer, you had any conversations with start Art, even with
Quinn about you know, the criticisms.

Speaker 7 (01:04:17):
That will come his fall.

Speaker 20 (01:04:19):
Yeah, I would always talk with Quinn about that last year,
and I think for me he was a great example.
He handled that so well. I mean, he didn't look
at the media. He was the same guy whether he
was getting praised or not praised.

Speaker 10 (01:04:28):
So that was really cool to see.

Speaker 23 (01:04:30):
What type of relationship do you have with Trevor consider
he's probably gonna be your blindside guy, Quinn had kel,
then you're gonna have him.

Speaker 19 (01:04:36):
What do you see from the.

Speaker 20 (01:04:37):
Tim Yeah, Goose, he's the man. He's like one of
the nicest guys ever. He's in the business school. We
played pickup basketball together. He's he's a great basketball player too,
so he's the man.

Speaker 21 (01:04:47):
What he's uh receivers who was standing out? I know
you got a young group, you know, no wingo, no more.

Speaker 19 (01:04:53):
What's that like?

Speaker 20 (01:04:54):
Yeah, it's been good getting these young guys at the speed.
I've been really impressed with Parker and uh Dale mccutchin's
really good. He's he's coming along well. He's he's getting
the hang of things.

Speaker 13 (01:05:03):
As the quarterback life and there's no player, but you've
got Trade, You've got kJ has a new guy in
here as well.

Speaker 19 (01:05:09):
Got consider behind the scene of that room.

Speaker 10 (01:05:11):
Yeah, it's good. kJ and Trey are both really good players.

Speaker 20 (01:05:14):
Trey can make every throw on the field and kJ
can make some make some serious plays with his feet
and his arms.

Speaker 10 (01:05:20):
So we got a good room all.

Speaker 19 (01:05:21):
Right with Jordan watching going down? Can you talk about
Spencer Shannon and Ridge Parker.

Speaker 20 (01:05:25):
Yeah, I've been really impressed with Spencer. He's a really
hard worker. He's been stepping up a lot, so I'm
really proud of him. In the rest of the room.

Speaker 19 (01:05:33):
So Arch, you've been wearing that T shirt since you're
in this week.

Speaker 8 (01:05:36):
How's it feel that we're in now and he's starting.

Speaker 10 (01:05:40):
It feels good, you know. I've I've always wanted to.

Speaker 20 (01:05:41):
Play college football, being a quarterback at a big time
in school.

Speaker 10 (01:05:45):
So I'm not gonna take it for granted for sure.

Speaker 8 (01:05:47):
Quinn always talked about how coach helped him.

Speaker 19 (01:05:51):
Help him on install and teaching. How is that relationship then,
and that's.

Speaker 15 (01:05:55):
Hard to do.

Speaker 20 (01:05:57):
Yeah, I think we're as close as ever. He pushes us,
tries to give me to be intentional with everything I do.
So I'm really grateful for him and we we're really
close right now.

Speaker 23 (01:06:06):
It'side from running with it was Is there anything different
preparation wise for you this spring as far as how
you're going about your business?

Speaker 10 (01:06:13):
No, I don't think so.

Speaker 20 (01:06:14):
I tried to at least I tried to prepare like
I was a starter every pride back then, So there's
not There's not much difference.

Speaker 23 (01:06:20):
Did the other programs try to get you to transfer
the last.

Speaker 5 (01:06:23):
Year or so?

Speaker 20 (01:06:25):
I kind of had a good idea I was gonna
stay here, great idea. Yeah, Whether he sec schools no, no,
not that I know.

Speaker 23 (01:06:33):
Did you work much with Cole this new quarterback center
exchange before this spring?

Speaker 19 (01:06:38):
And then how's he doing with that?

Speaker 10 (01:06:39):
And also the leadership you seen from being DJ Candell
up front?

Speaker 20 (01:06:43):
Yeah, been really impressed with Cole. You know, Cole started
as a freshman at guard, so he has to playing
experience and he's been.

Speaker 10 (01:06:50):
Good at center.

Speaker 20 (01:06:50):
Yeah, we would throw in the winner and I'd have
him come snap when we're throwing the receivers. So him
and Dj DJ brings a lot of energy and he's
just good for the locker room. So I'm excited to
have those two blocking for.

Speaker 7 (01:06:59):
Me, your ground posts coming down and put the leagues
to beacause of him. Numbers.

Speaker 19 (01:07:03):
Where you gonna take the meat?

Speaker 10 (01:07:05):
Yeah, we're going to get dinner that Wednesday night.

Speaker 7 (01:07:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (01:07:08):
I don't know if I want to tell everyone that.

Speaker 23 (01:07:16):
Is, everybody in your breading class, whether it's someone like
Nico or Dante.

Speaker 19 (01:07:20):
Did you look at the path they took and you
look at the path.

Speaker 7 (01:07:23):
You took and think like you got better into the
deal and how.

Speaker 23 (01:07:27):
People handle in Texas compared to what they were able
to do.

Speaker 10 (01:07:30):
Yeah, I don't really like to like, look at that.

Speaker 20 (01:07:32):
I'm gonna see all those guys at Manning Past Academy
this summer, so I'm excited to catch up with them,
see how they're doing.

Speaker 10 (01:07:38):
But really focus on myself, especially enough.

Speaker 8 (01:07:41):
Can you talk about just being patient and kind of
waiting for your turn, like in second there.

Speaker 19 (01:07:46):
Or where everyone's just jumps in a portal if it
doesn't happen instantly, you can just talk about being patient
and why that was important.

Speaker 10 (01:07:52):
To Yeah, it was tough.

Speaker 20 (01:07:54):
I mean it's tough in this age, but I think
I hope pays off.

Speaker 10 (01:08:00):
Like I said, there's nowhere else I want to be.

Speaker 20 (01:08:02):
Uh, I want to be at Texta got friends here,
love his play, so I want to be the quarterback
of Universe Texas. So sometimes it's worth the wait with that.
The first time you have been a backup in your
in your life, yeah, I started as a freshman high school,
but I didn't I was always a backup in basketball,
So I guess I kind of.

Speaker 19 (01:08:19):
Arch Steve Fraser edition Pether.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Your leadership ability these talking sloth's on Tuesday, does that
come natural to you or is it the process trying
and for each a leader?

Speaker 10 (01:08:27):
Yeah, I think some of it comes naturally. But our
staff coach Neil.

Speaker 20 (01:08:31):
Brown's been doing a really good job with me, just
trying to be a better leader, you know, stay with
different people at breakfast and just get the team rallied
around me.

Speaker 9 (01:08:43):
Our startman's talking to us about reorganizing, spraying a little
bit and trying to modify it to make it look
like the NFL Spring incorporates some more teaching.

Speaker 19 (01:08:51):
What what's changed and your you have what is your
day look like?

Speaker 20 (01:08:53):
That's any dacent for last Yeah, I think just getting
these young guys up to speed, and I trust what
he thinks about how we should do with this spring
and so yeah, that's that.

Speaker 19 (01:09:05):
He saw Trade similar with you back here. What's he
like in the backfield in the buddle?

Speaker 20 (01:09:10):
Yeah, Trade Trade's the man. He uh, he brings energy
every day. He's a the hardest worker on the team.
So it's a it's it's cool being in the back
of it with him. He can make you laugh, but
he could also just have your back at all time.
So he's a loyal, loyal.

Speaker 22 (01:09:22):
Teammate, the best smack talker And I'm going to be
Tad or somebody.

Speaker 20 (01:09:26):
Else that the best smack t I don't know if
I can say lines up here, but uh, i'd say
Colin talks a lot of smack. Yeah, any particular lines,
I don't know if it's appropriate for anything.

Speaker 19 (01:09:40):
Hard. Do you ever get a chance to work with your.

Speaker 8 (01:09:42):
Dad or your uncles to own your craft or you
kind of submarating dad work with the conchies here?

Speaker 20 (01:09:48):
Yeah, I think once I got to college, I'm just
working with the coaches. If I go home, I'll go
throw with my dad. But uh, and occasionally with Peyton
if he's in town. But other than that, I'm with
Milly and Sark and Mike Amante.

Speaker 19 (01:10:00):
You mentioned Neil Brown. Him coming there has a special system.
But what's it like just to have somebody who's got more.

Speaker 23 (01:10:06):
Power conference cultural experience companies, to have another other voice
of the road.

Speaker 20 (01:10:10):
Yeah, it's great to just have a voice where he's
not talking excell and O's with me. He's talking leadership
and you know, take the guys out to eat stuff
like that, just to to get more chemistry on the team,
to get.

Speaker 22 (01:10:21):
Another al deal glory some DRIPU. Is there a company
you're want that represent that you know somebody you wish
you would reach out, but.

Speaker 10 (01:10:34):
I don't think so very so very so.

Speaker 20 (01:10:38):
I think I'm just focused on spring ball right now.
Got all that and I all stuff out of the way.

Speaker 19 (01:10:42):
To go back to the leadership though.

Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
I mean, that's that stuff that just can't worn overnight.

Speaker 19 (01:10:46):
That's an acquired, over time type of deal.

Speaker 7 (01:10:49):
What is the key?

Speaker 19 (01:10:50):
What's the key to winning guys? Trust?

Speaker 10 (01:10:52):
Yeah, I think you have to walk the walk.

Speaker 20 (01:10:55):
You gotta work hard, and you know it's a game
after all, so you gotta have fun, smile, laugh, know
that you're going to back these guys up and play
for them. But I think I'm imperfect, Like I'm gonna
make some leadership mistakes. But it's just continuing to grow
get better every day.

Speaker 19 (01:11:10):
You see, we're in a good basketball player.

Speaker 10 (01:11:12):
I was all right, I was better at pick up
in the real game.

Speaker 19 (01:11:14):
You guys want to state championship.

Speaker 10 (01:11:16):
Yeah, we want to state championship. I was like the
six or soven man.

Speaker 23 (01:11:21):
Starts to mention that there are spots they're gonna look
at the quarter for on offense.

Speaker 19 (01:11:26):
Can you kind of recognize that.

Speaker 23 (01:11:28):
The players who may enter the quarter are going to
see you, see your name and be gravitating to Texas
because of that you do anything as a result.

Speaker 10 (01:11:36):
I sure hope.

Speaker 20 (01:11:36):
So, yeah, I sure hope they want to come here,
have the best players possible. But you know, I'm satisfied
with the group right now. Whoever wants to come here
will welcome them with open arms.

Speaker 19 (01:11:44):
Did you ask us for Arch?

Speaker 8 (01:11:46):
So Arch, They're gonna experience a love from the fans
loving let you're lose.

Speaker 19 (01:11:53):
Do you have an affinity towards the fans?

Speaker 8 (01:11:55):
Do you feel and energy Maybe when you're in the stadium,
but in all the media that's going around what's your
name or stuff like that?

Speaker 19 (01:12:02):
Do you feel that? And how do you do you
love the fans as much as say about you?

Speaker 10 (01:12:05):
Yeah, I love the fans. I think the fans are
great to all of us.

Speaker 20 (01:12:08):
We have a great fan base for all athletics and
really grateful for the.

Speaker 10 (01:12:12):
For the fandom.

Speaker 7 (01:12:14):
Going to get booth.

Speaker 10 (01:12:15):
Hell yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 20 (01:12:18):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I've learned that. You know, you
can't ride the emotional roller coach. You just got to
stay straight. You know, it's great when you win, it's
great when you lose. It's not great when you lose,
but you know, you just got to keep that same
mindset what do you weigh now we're both away in
the fall way about two twenty I think I'm around
two twenty five to two thirty would be good.

Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Who knew that?

Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
And me and Arch were alike in terms of we're
gonna pick up basketball but not good at the real thing.
That's probably where the similarities begin and end between me
and Arch Manning.

Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
But there he is QB one.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
Some sound from Trey Wiser praps on tomorrow's program. With
springball officially underway, I do you want to hear more
recap of springball?

Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Check out my interview with c J.

Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
Folliwill earlier today two o'clock hour that will be posted
to the Craigway Show podcast page on the Free iHeart
Radio at More to come here before we close out
today's show. A quick updates from the Masters, where Roy
McElroy a birdie on the par five to twelfth hole.
He has four shots back from Justin Rose, who got
a little bit of tree trouble on seventeen, able to

(01:13:20):
get out of it make par, but once again has
not found the fairway on the eighteenth hole, so some
work to do. He is currently evaluating his options standing
on the Pinestrial going to have to pitch out, perhaps
on the eighteenth hole, so he will hold on to
the first round lead into the clubhouse depends on how

(01:13:40):
will he be at eight under, seven under, or maybe
even worse than that. But curtainly, your clubhouse leaders are
Corey Connors and Scottie Scheffler at four hundred par after
a pair of sixty eight's ludfit Aberg and Bryce and
the Shambeau both two under par right now they're on
the fourteenth hole. Mentioned Rory already at four hunder par.
He's got one more par five to go. Could Roy

(01:14:02):
McRoy perhaps get to five under par? More updates for
the maskers up next, though, gonna look at the draft boards.
We talked about maybe three long Horns going in the
first round. Could there be more? Could there be less?
We're gonna find out up next here as our three
of the Greigway Show continues on this Thursday afternoon, two
weeks away from the NFL Draft and the Texas Longhorns

(01:14:25):
in position to set a program record for most draft
picks selected rapps, We're looking at least possibly three in
the first rounds were likely? Will it be Johnny Baron
or maybe Matthew Golden first off the board, could it
be Kelvin Banks.

Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
Well, let's take a look.

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
At Dane Brugler's NFL draft guy from the Ringer, sorry,
from the Athletic called the Beast. You look to the
top one hundred players and we'll start with the quarterbacks.
His listing so far in the top five cam Ward
at number one, should Or Sanders number two, Jack in
Dart three, Tyler Shuck at four. He was a former
Texas Tech quarterback in number five. Gilen Milroe about Quinn

(01:15:06):
yours well number six, currently eighty six out of the
top one hundred players. And this is what Dane Brewler
has to say about the former QB one for the
Texas Longhorns. So, Quinn yours he comes in with questions
abounding about his his arm strength, but overall his IQ

(01:15:27):
is one thing that gives him a lot of leeway
with NFL teams.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
This is what Brugler has to say.

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Yours operated well and head coach Steve Sarakesian's RBO base
spread scheme offense with heavy pre snap movement. After a
high profile recruitment and transfer, he made key improvements over
his time in Austin engineered one of the best back
to back runs in Longhorns history. But he trust his
arm over mechanics. Yours screens rotational torque to get the
ball quickly and plays with fast size within the structure

(01:15:55):
or the offense. He didn't have a true didn't have
a ton of true dropbacks until third down, which is
one of his inconsistent pocket princess pocket presence led to
more negative results saxon turnovers and you want to see
on third downs fifty five point eight percent completions nine
to seven touchdown to interception ratio. In twenty twenty four,
the physicality of a long season war on his body,

(01:16:17):
and though he was willing the play through pain, his
execution clearly was affected. Overall, Yours has the arm intelligence
in poise that will translate to the next level. Although
it was up and down decision making, limitation as a
play extender in durability concerns great questions and marks for
his pro ceiling. If he stays healthy, the tools are
there to compete for NFL starting reps, rulers grade third

(01:16:40):
round him.

Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
That does make sense.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
I think for quinn ewors A lot of times with
quarterbacks and we've seen all the time teams which has
fall in love with the potential right this ceiling for quarterback.
A lot of teams in love with the ceiling of
cam Ward. They're in love with the ceiling of Jaln Milroe.
For Quinn, youewers, I'm not saying he's a finished product,
but you know what his arm strength is. You know

(01:17:02):
he has a quick release, and you know his level
IQ is high. Now, well that translate to every NFL team,
Probably not. I think Quinn is a great fit if
he's in the RPO based offense, If he lands in
the style or structure similar to Sean McVay in Los
Angeles or Mike McDaniel and Miami, or Kyle shanahan in

(01:17:23):
San Francisco, Lafleur in Green Bay, I think he can
fit in a system like that in be excellent. I
think we can see yours have a similar type career
to Colt McCoy where he's in the league for ten
to fifteen years now. I think he can be a
starter in certain offenses. But again, kind of like Colt.
The one thing that did come back to by Colt

(01:17:44):
was what his ability to stay healthy and also his
arm strength, and that is what a lot of NFL
teams look like.

Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
Now, Okay, look at bow Knicks in Denver. You know
bow Nicks.

Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
You know he didn't throw the ball more than ten
hearts down the field at Oregon. And he had a
solid year in for in the right scheme, in the
right fit with John Payton. So if Quinn can landed
a team, I think that will build around him or
built an offense base to who's base, to his straints.
I think Quinn can have a very successful NFL season.
Of course, when have we seen Quinn healthy?

Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
I think a lot of blame was put on Quinn
the way he performed on the second half of the season.
I think it was just he wasn't healthy second half
against Kentucky, he was unhealthy against A and M.

Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
He could barely move.

Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
But that shows you how tough a player he was,
and I hopefully that's what Texas fans will remember about
Quinn yours, his ability to tough it out the play
through injury. I do not think he was one hundred
percent against Ohio State. I don't think he was one
hundred percent against Arizona State. He was on one hundred
percent against Georgia right, but he's still played through the pain.
He's still toped it out in third round grade from

(01:18:52):
Dane Brugler, We'll see where he ends up. Okay, Kelvin Banks,
the offensive lineman, where will he end up?

Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
The guard? Right now?

Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Now, he's the second ranked guard according to Dane Brugler's
twenty twenty five NFL Draft twenty six overall, and the
headline for Calvin Banks is well this spite, this spite
ideal length. He does project to be an immediate starter.
A three year starter at Texas, Banks was a fixture

(01:19:21):
at left tackle and a head and head coach Steve
Sarkisian's multiple run scheme offenses. Spite not moving to the
old line until high school, he looks like he's been
playing there his entire life. It was not a coincidence
that the long courts rise mirrored banks tenure with well
time feet and hard work and handwork. Rather, Banks is
natural and passed protection and shows an instinctive field to

(01:19:41):
attack with leverage and great force through his body mechanics.
His balance can be too easily disrupted, though, especially in
the running game, which can leave him overextended or on
the ground Overall, Banks doesn't have an ideal length. It
needs to improve his sustained tactics to be consistent finisher
against NFL talent, but he has controlled footwork in depth in.

Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
His past sets.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Plus the fun will know how to fit and leverage
blocks and keep defenders occupied. He does project as in
the media NFL starter who can stay at tackle, although
his best long term position might be guard. His grade
from Dane Brugler was first to second round. Now he
will be a first round draft pick, and it depends
on what teams see him as because we're seeing the

(01:20:20):
same issues right with is it Will Campbell or sorry, yeah,
Will Campbell lsu or people are criticizing his arm length,
but teams believe that Will Campbell can stay as a tackle.
Now will a team want Kelvin Banks to be a
tackle or do they see him as as a guard?
And that I think that will dictate in the tomament

(01:20:41):
where Calvin Banks does end up.

Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
Okay, joh Dy Barren.

Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
And there are some reports today coming out that the
Los Angeles Raiders may be interested Las Vegas Raiders rather
could be interested in Johdy Barren. Dane Brugler's guide, he
is third right now top sorry third cornerback, thirtieth overall
in the top one hundred. A three year starter at Texas,

(01:21:05):
Baron played the star hybrid position in defensive coordinators Pete
Wakowski's son heavy scheme, seeing time at corner safety in
nickel and dime. After playing primary inside as an underclass
When he moved outside in twenty twenty four and led
the sec both interceptions in passes defended, he became the
third Longhorn to win the Jim Thorpe Award as a
nation's top defensive back. He holds a master's degree in

(01:21:25):
coverage scheme. Sends on a great job developing the mental
part of his game, giving himself a head start king
in diagnosing the quarterback in blocking scheme.

Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
It doesn't have the.

Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
Burst for easy recoveries, he does play with supreme confidence
and physicality without crossing the line, especially in so and covers. Overall,
Baron doesn't have the top tier size that most teams
prioritize at the cornerback position, but he does trust his
instincts and competes with the toughness in ball skills to
hold up versus pass or run. Some teams view him
as a Nickel only prospect, while others see his value

(01:21:55):
to play multiple positions across the secondary. Barn played everything
at Texas. Right, he played Star Nickel, cornerback and by
the end of his Texas career, how many times do
you guys remember teams targeting Ji Dy Baron defensively few
and far between. Right, it felt like teams never tried
to attack Jidie Baron, and when they did, especially on

(01:22:18):
third downs, Barons would come up with huge, huge plays.
He became such as straight with the Texas defense and
that's contributed to who his big rise up and down
the draft boards. His draft grade from Dane Brugler is
first in second round. Again, we're hearing a lot of
murmers about teams maybe moving down in grabbing him as well.
But Baron could be up there in the first round

(01:22:41):
alongside Calvin Banks. And the other first round draft pick
rafts for Texas is Matthew Golden. I'm sure you guys
have seen the pictures circulating social media of Matthew Golden
alongside Jerry Jones. Golden was at the Star yesterday for
an official visit. He may be the first receiver off
the board. Tita McMillan from Arizona up there as well,

(01:23:03):
but the projection from Dane Brugler is a first and
second round grade. And here's what Brugler had to say
about Matthew Golden. Golden was the Sea receiver and head
coach Steve Sarkisian's RPO pro style spread offense and was
used across the formation with heavy motions. After two promising
seasons in the Houston's air raid scheme, he was an
underratedition for long corns. In twenty twenty four, improved especially

(01:23:24):
valuable when it mattered most, averaging one hundred and twenty
one hundred and two yards per game over his final
four games. Of course, we remember the Arizona State fourth
down catch that will be cemented in Longhorn's lower Forever
him and Quinn yours, Bruger continues fluid in and out
of his breaks. Golden shows a plan as a route runner.
I love his ability to his ability to break down

(01:23:45):
corners by keeping his eyes, hips and feet and seeing
that coordination also translates to the catch point with his
very natural ball skills to track, frame and finish. Overall,
it might bother some teams that he doesn't have better size,
but Golden also doesn't have any glaring flaws to his
game that would keep him from becoming a productive pro.
He can play inside or outside and become the go
to target for an NFL offense. I thought his route

(01:24:06):
running last season was some of the best route running
we've seen from a Texas receiver. It reminds me kind
of a Fixavier Worthy, but Worthy was so quick with
that first step. Golden his route running, I mean, he
could run anything in the route tree. And that's why
he developed such a great relationship with Quinn yours because
Golden could run anything that Steve Sarkijan want him to
run in the course was so clutch down the stretch

(01:24:29):
for text, I mean Arizona State and mentioned the fourth down,
the fourth and what thirteen? How about the fourth and
eight catch? Was that early on in the game. Was
the first or second quarter? It might have been like
fourth or two when yours in the gun Golden to
his left, he threw it on the sideline.

Speaker 1 (01:24:45):
It was a tiptoe catch.

Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
It was such a hard play, but it kind of
this demonstrated the trust that yours in Golden had with
each other. In Golden's ability to make the catch, Leeb.
He got two feet inbounds. It just shows you why
Go is going to be possibly the first receiver taking
off the board, if not the first.

Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
And likely the second.

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
But all in all, we could see three longhorns taken
in the first round. We'll be back to wrap up
today's show here on iHeartRadio.
