ladder and he did a five yard catch at a first down.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
Way, you aren't kidding. He did have to elevate and
also make sure he got that foot down and bounds.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
It six feet tall. He played big right there and

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Looked up over the shoulder.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
You want to throw, you want to catch twenty nine yards.

What's your receivers? Out wide riding blitz look from Arizona State.
Quinn in the gun ready to take the stamp, has

(04:51):
the snap four to thirteen, yours looking fires, He's got
golden open. He caught it, touchs down Texas and bad dude,
Golden strikes again twenty eight yards on fourth down and

Speaker 2 (05:26):

Speaker 5 (05:28):
You are doing a great job. There was some heat coming.
He stepped up in the pocket and then threw a

Speaker 3 (06:14):
This ball game is over.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Texas is going to the final four, hellong Horns winning
in double over time. Thirty nine thirty one.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
What a ballgame, folks, An instant classic in the college
football playoff in Texas, this time on the right side
of history. Good afternoon to Cameron parking with you as
we begin hour three of the Craigway Chow filling in
for Craig who is up in Norman, Oklahoma. Texas Women's
basketball in action tonight, number five, first number nine as

(06:51):
Texas takes on the Sooners seven and forty five. Pregames
start on one O three to one FM. Tip off
time eight o'clock. Craig Way and Kathy Arston will have
the call. So I'm with you for today's show. No
show tomorrow. That's because Craig will be traveling back and
I'll be on the road with the Texas men's basketball
team traveling the college station. But the morning kickoff will

(07:13):
hold it down for you from seven to nine am
and then back to normal next Monday with Craig and
myself back in the studio. But what a game for
the Texas Longhorns. A game they led early on after
trolling three nothing, up fourteen, three, seventeen to three, twenty
four to eight in the fourth quarter. Thought that Quinn

(07:35):
Yours touchdown run was going to be enough.

Speaker 6 (07:37):
It was not.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Arizona State would pull out everything but the kitchen sink
in this game. You had a fake punt, you had
a Cam Skataboo passing touchdown, you had pretty much everything.
Two two point conversions converted. You got to give credit
to Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State, a fantastic football team

(08:02):
that played their guts out in Texas. Despite a couple
of big miscues, costly turnover, some poor penalties, some bad execution,
and not able to get the run game going, Loncord
is able to come from behind in overtime and win
this game thirty nine to thirty one. Funny enough, it
wasn't the first time Texas had played an overtime game

(08:26):
in the Mercedes Benz Stadium, because in the SEC Championship,
Texas would end up falling to Georgia in that game
twenty to to nineteen in overtime. Steve Sarkshan was asked
about it yesterday in the postgame press conference if that
overtime loss played a role in how he prepared for
overtime in this game.

Speaker 6 (08:46):
Yeah, you know, I felt like the way the game
was going tonight, I definitely wanted to stay aggressive, you know,
and even though in the first overtime, you know, we
kind of took a shot on the first play and
it wasn't quite there, and then we came back, and
then we get a fall start after the run, and
then we get the second fall start, and that's how

(09:08):
we end up in the.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Fourth and fifteen.

Speaker 6 (09:09):
I just I feel like we want to be aggressive,
and that's why we got the first play to come
right back out for the second overtime. Stayed aggressive, trusting
your best players to make plays. And between Quinn, Gunner
and Matthew, I mean, those guys have been so clutched
for us all year. If we find a way to
get the ball in their hands and see what.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
They could get done. And so that was the mentality.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
You know, I guess I'll take a third overtime if
we can get back here on the twentieth, right, So
if that's what it takes, so we'll keep everybody on
their toes a little bit.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Texas will have to be Ohio State next week to
get back to Utline on the National Championship Game January twentieth,
back at Mercedes Bend Stadium. Joatti Baron also in the
postgame press conference alongside Quinn and Steve Sarkjian. He was
asked about Quinn's performance and if it surprised him and
what he made of it of QB one delivering a

(09:59):
comeback for the Horns overtime.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I mean, this this starts all like during the summer,
you know, our culture Wednesdays and again just opened up
on one another.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
But I mean I wish, I wish sark could he
could have a card.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
So we do these culture things on on I would
say Friday, but you know today's not Friday, so it'd
be Tuesday, and we do Tuesday night a team activity
while we write in a car.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
And in the car, I will just thinking sarking.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
And the last bullet point was Quinn's gonna play fast.
And the reason he's gonna play fast because he's God,
the Creator. He's gonna give all his worries, everything he
has and.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Doubt, he's just gonna give it to him, and it's
just gonna allow him to play free. And I think
that's what Quinn did when our backs against the wall.
He just kept fighting. He makes some big time plays
and those three throws.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Now on shot day, un facing Cam Skataboo, obviously Cam Scataboo.
Earlier in the week, he said and no one could
stop him. After the win over Iowa State said he
was the best running back in the country, and uh,
he delivered in this game. He did it on the ground,
he did it in the air, he did it receiving

(11:00):
as well. Overall in this game, Total Scataboo say pull
up the stats real quick. On the ground, Skataboo had
ninety nine rushing yards. It's twelve point four yards per
Cary had that. Sorry sorry. The receiving yards rushing yards
one hundred and forty three yards total, two touchdowns average
four point eight yards per carry. Texas did stop them,

(11:22):
but there was times where they did not stop him,
including the first overtime touchdown. Receiving, he had eight receptions
ninety nine yards, including that sixty two yard reception down
the sideline, and then passing had a forty two yard
touchdown completion. Cam Skataboo literally did it all. And so
here was Shaddy Baron and asked about facing Cam s Kataboo.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I mean, as a competitor, you know, it's fun. It's
fun when.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Guys, you know, I mean they say what they say
before the game, and that's just his confidence level and
things like that. But just to go out there with
my guys and just to keep fighting, you know, I
think we kept fighting sometimes, you know, if we had
a penalty and they got another another play, we just
continued to fight. And I think ultimately that's what it means,
and that's what a brotherhood means. Here in the culture
and level bond that we have and the level bond

(12:08):
that we share.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
I'm trying to, you know, recall my mind a player
of Scottaboo's caliber who played the way he did against
Texas and in terms of just not being able to
stop him, I think Michael Pennix Junior last year in
the Sugar Bowl semi final. He was something that I
feel like Texas just really could not stop. Like who else?

(12:30):
What else comes to my Ceedee Lamb Oklahoma, Kyler Murray Oklahoma.
There's not a lot of guys who I thought played
like Cam Scattaboo did against Texas yesterday. They have in
years past in terms of just really being a one
man riking crew. There's been I mean, Ceedee Lamb the
Cotton Bowl, the one year in which they went to
what four overtimes? He was unstoppable in that game. Kyler

(12:53):
Murray the year Dick or the kicker that second half comeback.
It felt like Texas really could not stop Kyler Murray
in that second half. And it felt like Texas and
that end of this game could not stop camps Cateagy,
whether he was running the ball, throwing the ball, or
catching the ball. A fantastic job done. I believe he
was the offensive MVP of this game. He deserved it.
A fantastic running back and he's going to make an

(13:15):
excellent running back at the next level. Last quote for
you before we hit this break, get you an update
on towards a Notre Dame. By the way, last year
I mentioned the Washington game. Michael Pennick Junior. Obviously college
FOOTBA playoffs semi final texts will lose that game. How
much did that game help in this game? In this situation,

(13:36):
another college football playoff game coming down to the wire.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Nate Caberly coach your teach experience.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
So just the amount of maturity employees that we have
in these games I think has definitely helped us over time.
You know.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
You know, Sarkey told us that have time.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
This is the point where we were at last year
and we didn't have a business, and just to be
able to have another opportunity to go out there and
go out there and have a business, I mean, blessing
you to do that. So him just continue to just
fight us and just push us through that missed adversity
and things like that.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
So, you know, i'd say from a coaches perspective, the
more times we get in these moments, you know, whether
it's now back to back years of being in the playoffs,
back to back years being in the final four, playing
in a Big twelve championship and winning it last year,
you know, winning you know, competing in the SEC Championship
this year, going on the road a year ago to Alabama,

(14:27):
going on the road this year in Michigan. We've been
in some pretty big environments, some some pretty cool arenas,
some pretty big games. That not to say that these
aren't great experiences.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
They are.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
These are amazing experiences for these guys. But the moment
at this point doesn't seem too big, right. We're not
in awe that, hey, this is where we'd be, this
is where we're supposed to be. And I think that
they they understand that and then they get back to
their preparations so that we can try to play our
best football.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
And but that's what experience gives you.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
It gives you, you know, being on the stage, being
in the arena and understanding what it's like to be
in the arena so that you can focus on your
play rather than all of the other stuff that's going on.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
And now Texas will take on errors sorry to take
on Ohio State next week Friday, six thirty pm kickoff time.
Our coverage will begin locally three thirty pm with our
pregame show myself Mike Harge and Mark Henry, and of
course network coverage begins at five point thirty Greg Way,
Roger Wallace in Will Matthews live from the Cotton Bowl

(15:30):
at and T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. That's your postgame
sound from Steve Sarkis and Quin Yours and Shoddy Baron
update for you in the college football playoff quarterfinal at
the All State Sugar Bowl right now, a three to
three game, all tied up in the second quarter, Georgia
I mentioned Aiden Smith had a long reception from Gunner Stockton.

(15:52):
They would settle for a forty one yard field goal.
Notre Dame with the ball back their first role sustained
drive of the game, finally moving the ball down the field,
they would also settle for a field goal Mitch Jeeter
a forty four yard or three to three. Georgia would
just punt after picking up one first down, so Notre
Dame getting the ball back with five forty seven the
go in the second quarter, all tied up at three apiece.

(16:15):
The winner will take on Penn State next week. We'll
just already our three here to the day's program. More
to come as the Craigway Show continues after this
