Speaker 2 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the program here on sports MEDIOAM thirteen under
the Zone. My name is Craig Away. I'm glad to
have you with us alongside as always, hopefully you're on
the downhill run to the weekend. And whether you are
or not, Ope, things are going well, free and we're
pleased that you could join us this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
You can always join us there on our.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
YouTube's and the producer by the way, as always, except
when he was out of town helping his mom move,
but he came back yesterday as Cameron D.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Parker.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
The D stands for Dallas, as in the Cowboys, and
even though Cam has pledged enough to watch them this year,
he still plans to be into them. But folks are
able to view us Facebook and YouTube. Facebook. I'm sitting here,
I just drew a total blank, all right, So yeah,
Facebook and YouTube. So glad to have those of you

(00:54):
viewing us, those of you listening to us over the
air on the good old terrestrial signal here in the
Greater Austin area at AM thirteen hundred on your dial,
and of course on our iHeartRadio app which is always
free and crystal clear, and you can download that and
run that through your vehicle, or listen to us from

(01:15):
the office wherever it might be. In any event, we're
glad to have you alongside a lot to get to
today football news, Olympic news, baseball news. There's several different
pathways to take on all of this, and that includes

(01:37):
the fact that the men's two hundred meter final just
ran a few minutes ago. If you're one of those
people who wants to go into media blackout and wait
until it's reaired in prime time to night on NBC,
I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I understand that.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I'm going to give you a few seconds here and
you have a few seconds to diseng age from us
starting now.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Okay, Uh, you know it.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
There was all of the the conversation about Noah Lyles.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
He did run, he did medal, he did not win. Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
He wound up finishing third, took the bronze on this
and in fact, not only did he not win, he
wasn't even his uh the top American finisher in that
so Bednarik.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
His his US teammate, took.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
The silver and the gold medal went to the runner
from Botswana.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
And I'm gonna get I want to I don't want to.
I do not want to mess up his name, so
I've got to I'll pull it back up.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
But he did not. He did not win.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
And then word came down just a little bit ago
that Noah Lyles was diagnosed with COVID a couple of
days ago, and he did look pretty winded when it
was run, which which shows you how tality is if
he indeed is dealing with COVID. And yet for all

(03:13):
of that, wound up Meddling earning a bronze medal in it,
So there you are with it.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Also, uh, the.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
United States women's volleyball team had a thriller of a match.
It was much like the one with the men yesterday,
except the men, who had a two to one lead
and a chance to put it away, could not do
it in the four set and lost in the fifth

(03:44):
set tiebreaker to Poland, so Poland moved into the final.
On the women's side, the women this morning had a
two to one lead in their match with Brazil. Brazil
was able to win fourth set and went to a
fifth set tiebreaker, and the US did win fifteen to eleven.

(04:04):
So the United States, which won the gold medal in volleyball,
women's volleyball at the Tokyo Olympics has a chance to
defend that gold medal early on Sunday morning, and they're
going to play the winner of the match between Italy
and Turkey, and right now it looks like it's going
to be Italy. Italy has taken the first two sets.

(04:25):
Turkey is up eight seven in the third set, but
again Italy in really good shape perhaps to take that one.
So you have that going on. So men's basketball is
just now tipped off, has it not, cam Yeah, underway
in the first quarter. Okay, So they're on the way.
And of course, and that's in the semifinals and they're
playing Serbia, and we'll keep you updated on that because

(04:48):
the men are trying to get to the gold medal game,
which would be on Sunday and they would play the winner. Well,
the winner is France. France won the first semifinal beating
Germany today seventy three to sixty nine. So France, the
host nation, will be in the gold medal game on

(05:08):
Sunday morning. Yabaseli I think had the was the lead
score for France, seventeen points. Dennis Schuter had eighteen points
to lead Germany Shuoter play for now. He was with
the Thunder, he's with the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Who's he with? I can't remember who it is?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Brooklyn, Brooklyn. Okay, well, no wonder. It's kind of become
the Siberia. The NBA hasn't it. But France has won
and so it's on to the gold medal game for France.
Germany will play in the bronze medal game on Sunday
against the loser of that game between Serbia and the
United States. The US won the first two meetings. They
won an exhibition and they won in pool play bow

(05:53):
times by twenty six points. So we'll keep you updated
on that and let you know how that is progressed
as well. But they are just underway in that one.
Football notes, we're gonna hear from longrn's head coach Steve
Sarkijan Sark with a media availability after practice this morning,
so we'll hear from Sark. We'll also hear some more

(06:16):
conversation from long WRN football players today, so we've got
that coming up. Of course, we have Inconceivable coming up,
which also has a little bit of a personal touch.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
We'll get to that with Inconceivable.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Greg Tepper, the managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine,
will join us as well, and that will be in
the four o'clock hour.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Tip will be on the talk.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
We'll talk some college football with the magazine, and also
we'll continue our statewide high school football previews.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
We've done so.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Far six A, five A, and four A, so we've
done the first half of those, and.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Tep will join us to preview three A.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
We'll do a three to A state football preview as well,
so that's coming up also. So there's a lot to
get to on the program. Also, there's, like I said,
there's baseball news. There's a couple of different baseball things.
First of all, the Chicago White Sox have fired their manager,
Pedro Grifall, who there's no big shock of that. They're
twenty eight and eighty nine right now, they have the

(07:22):
worst record in all of baseball. Incidentally, tomorrow, Geene Watson,
who of course is in that White Sox front off
he just got there in his first season there and
trying to help them get things turned around. He is
scheduled to join us tomorrow to talk baseball, not just
about his ball club, but about the other things that
have happened, and we'll get Geno's thoughts on that. So

(07:44):
that's tomorrow on the program as well. So much to
get to. We'll keep you updated on US Olympic men's basketball,
also on the opponent for women's volleyball, as that match
is still going on right now between Italy and Turkey.
There are other events to update you on as well,
as the US draws closer to one hundred total medals

(08:06):
in these Olympics.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
They've been really really good on that. We'll hit the
metal count on that as well.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
So much to get to on the program this afternoon,
and we're always happy to have you join us a
couple of different ways. If you would like to text
the program, it's very easy to do. All you have
to do is text us on our text line. You
text the word Texas follow by your question or comment
to eight one five to three zero. So whatever question

(08:32):
or comment you have texted to eight one five to
three zero.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Standard messaging and data rates may apply.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Also, we had great response with our talkback feature when
we were giving away the copies of Dave Campbell's Texas
Football magazine, and we're done with a giveaway, but if
you still want to reach us via the talkback We're
more than happy to take your vocal submission as well.
All you have to do make sure you have the
iHeartRadio app. If you don't, it's free, easy to download.

(09:00):
Then you pop up AM thirteen under the zone. There's
two buttons on there, a white one that you press
just to listen to this show or the other programming
on the station. The other one is a red button,
has a little white microphone, and you would press that
button to leave us a voice message fifteen twenty twenty
five seconds somewhere around there, and you can do that
on the talk Don't go over thirty seconds, it'll cut

(09:20):
you off. So if you go anywhere, whatever however long
message you lead, keep it inside of thirty seconds. Tell
us what you'd like to hear about or what you're
thinking as well. You can do that on the talk
back feature. So a lot to get to. We'll do
that when we continue here on this Thursday afternoon on
sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone in the iHeartRadio
app
