W r KO, the voice ofBoston, an iHeartRadio station, live lines,
locks and long shots. Now backto Boston's only nightly betting show,
The Gambler with Adam Kaufman six eightw r KO streaming live on the iHeartRadio
app or tell your smart speaker toplay w r KO on iHeartRadio. Keeping
(00:27):
a close eye on the Celtics, who are up by eighteen about eight minutes
to go in the fourth quarters. So crazy things happened in the NBA.
We're not getting ahead of ourselves here, but obviously see's keep doing what they're
doing. Then they will be ontoa game six. That would be fun,
that would be nice to talk about. We will get into much of
that over the course of this show. Adam Kaufman. That's The Gambler with
(00:48):
Adam Kaufman. Welcome back, andwe're gonna switch gears for just a little
bit as we do continue to trackthe season and welcome in from DraftKings from
Mayo Media Network, Gary and Thorne. He's just much nicer than most of
us because he resides north of theborder. He is a Canadian and by
nature that makes him nicer. Howare you bow not to and too bad
(01:11):
man excited to talk some baseball andyeah, maybe even some Game six.
Yeah, maybe mix in a thoughtor two as we get closer to this
thing finishing off hopefully. But tellme as as someone who obviously writes about
baseball, covers baseball, talks aboutbaseball, and just loves the game as
it relates to the Red Stocks, who, as we know, are kind
(01:33):
of as we approach Memorial Day,right about where most people would have expected
them to be, you know, down to the division but right around in
this case, slightly above five hundred. Kind of perfectly mediocre, wildly streaky.
Pitching is inconsistent, offense seems decent. What is your overall read on
Boston when you're thinking about how orif to even bet this team on a
(01:56):
daily basis, Well, I thinkthe first thing you really think about when
you think about the Red Sox sofar this season, and I know this
was I believe one of your staplesof the twenty twenty three baseball betting season
so far is the Red Sox andthe over. They have hit the over
in sixty two point five percent oftheir games, only Tampa Bay, which
(02:22):
you know makes sense. Tampa's gotthe best offense in baseball by every single
metric by a pretty considerable margin. They are the only team covering me over
at a higher clip than the RedSox, and I think that speaks to
just, you know, the surfaceidentity of the team. I don't really
think there's too much to uncover whenit comes to the twenty twenty three Red
Sox. They've got an above averageoffense that you know, might be a
(02:45):
little streaky. Maybe their lineup againstleft handed pitching in particular is not the
most scary thing in the entire world. But when they are facing the middle
of the road right handed pitcher, they are a team you expect to score
a lot of runs. However,if anyone but Chris Sale is on the
mound. And you know, I'vegot a soft spot in my heart for
Brian Bayo. I think he's alot better than his numbers suggest, but
(03:06):
that's a story for another day.But they are going to give up runs,
or they are susceptible to giving upruns, so they kind of just
make sense. That's sort of myread. I'm not really mystified by them
at all. I'm going to stealfrom our guy Dan Watkins, who you
will hear from, but he tweetedout earlier that this Red Sox team sort
of piling on the streakiness thirteen andtwelve twelve over the last twenty five games,
(03:30):
but within that lose two in arow, win eight, dropped to
win one, lose four, winfour, lose four. So you know,
obviously it's it's hard to find anysort of level of reliability other than
I guess expect the unexpected or asyou acknowledged, and very very true.
So thank you for paying attention poundthe over for most of these teams,
(03:51):
the games that they play, inthe matchups they have. But I guess,
as you sort of drill it downwith that in mind, what are
you looking for with this team whenit comes to all right, I'm going
to bet the socks today. Youknow, is it who's on the mound?
Is it obviously specifically the matchup,or who's pitching on the other side.
Are you paying attention to their lineup? Is there one sort of overwhelming
(04:14):
detail that says to you this isa good day to play or fade Boston.
I mean, like I said,I think the pitching matchups are always
the go to for any spot.I think I think that's that's sort of
where you you start the process,at least that's where I start. And
I think, you know, whenit comes to the Red Sox, you
know, Tomorrow's game against the Diamondbacksa perfect example of you know, they
(04:39):
have a clear advantage on a veryrare occasion, I think in the pitching
matchup, or a distinct advantage. You know, sometimes it's a wash whatever,
but you know, I think ChrisSale versus Brandon fought, they clearly
have the advantage there, especially withhow Sales been pitching as of late.
I mean, I know some ofthe overall numbers are still you know,
(05:00):
lagged down by a very slow startin early April, but you look at
sales last six starts. He's gota two point nine one FIP, He's
got a seven point two strikeout towalk ratio. I know he gave up
a couple of home runs the Padresand his last start, but generally speaking
only allowing point seven home runs pernine, much better than some of the
meatballs we saw early on in theseason. So you know, that's a
(05:23):
situation where again Boston going up againsta specifically right handed pitcher, because again,
I think with some of the lefthanded bats in this lineup. I
know Yeshida really has good splits versusboth sides. Verdugo has done a better
job this season of that, butstill this is a team that I think,
at the end of the day, with Yoshida, with Verdugo, with
(05:45):
Devas clearly being the three best hittersin this lineup, you want them facing
a right handed pitcher. You wantthem having the pitching matchup advantage. And
you know, that's a situation tomorrowwhere you check all those boxes and I'd
probably even be comfortable with taking theRed Sox on the online. So that's
kind of where it goes for me. Again, occasionally I think this team,
(06:06):
because they hit the over as oftenas they do, there is some
interest in specific spots in maybe lookingat like a first five under or something
like that. I know I mentionedBrian bo some of his surface stats again
not great. I think the underlyingnumbers are more indicative of his true level
of talent. But also someone whogenerally just throws five innuts, So there
(06:30):
are very specific circumstances where I dothink you can kind of buck the trends.
But if you want to bet theRed Sox, it helps when a
Chris Sale is on the mound andbe there facing a right handed picture.
Gary and Thorn with us from MayoMedia Network as well as DraftKings, and
we're going to keep him here talka little bit more baseball, and that
was kind of the Red Sox focus. We'll go around the diamond, look
(06:53):
at some of the other trends andthings that Garion likes to target, maybe
some early leans on tomorrow later onbefore we let him go. Within this
next half hour, we'll do thepeople's parlay as well. He may be
sitting there going what is that?Well, we will tell him when we
come back. It's The Gambler withAdam Kaufman. Need event about bad bets?
You've come to the right place, tell us about it. Call six
(07:15):
one seven two six six six eightsix as six one seven two six six
six eight six eight, or ifyou're listening on the iHeartRadio app, use
the talkback button. The Gambler withAdam Kaufman will be right back after this
on wrk O. This thing's allbut over. We're starting to see some
(07:35):
of the deep reserves check in forthe Celtics as they lead by nineteen points
with three minutes and change to goin the fourth quarter, well on their
way to forcing a Game six onSaturday back in Miami, only the second
team to force a Game six inNBA playoff history after falling down oh three
(07:57):
in a series and of course thathas happened one hundred fifty one times,
so pretty incredible obviously. And overin the NHL, we got overtime on
the way between Vegas and Dallas. You know Vegas obviously it went away from
advancing to meet Florida in the StanleyCup Final, whereas Dallas just trying to
extend its season, not unlike theCeltics each and every day right now.
(08:18):
So exciting playoff action tonight, evenif this particular Boston game was not super
competitive even from the jump, whichas a Celtics fan and better not complaining
about. Let's circle back more baseball. Garyon Thorn is here from DraftKings as
well as Mayo Media Network and Garyand we were talking a lot about the
socks obviously in the previous segment.Just in general though, what are some
(08:41):
of the areas that you are targetingright now when it comes to baseball,
And I know it's different by theday, but Are you more locked in
on props? Are you more focusedon straits, whether it's obviously you know,
non props, but just basic lines, money line, team wins,
run line over as, whatever itmay be. What generally has your focus
(09:03):
on the diamond? I mean,I don't think it's surprising that there's probably
a little bit more value to behad in the props market. You know,
there's just so many lines every singleday that generally speaking, you can
find a couple that you like.Even I know recently I've found I've been
betting a lot more hits, runs, RBI props as opposed to total basis
(09:26):
props because you know, baseball itisn't new to this season obviously, but
with a lot of teams having moreof a focus on you know, OBP
and getting on base as opposed tojust straight batting average. There's really nothing
worse than losing a total basis propbecause your guy walked twice instead of hitting
(09:46):
two singles. So at the veryleast, with the hits, RBI and
runs prop, you know your guy'sgetting on base and has a chance to
score and maybe help you in thatcapacity. So that has been a market
that you know they're the line aredifferent. Don't get me wrong, that's
factored in, but generally speaking, they're in the same ballpark most of those
props, and I do think there'sways to use that to your advantage.
(10:11):
What well, what were you ontoday? Just to you know, we
don't need to measure your specific dailysuccess, but what were some of the
things that commanded your attention? Iwas really on the Orioles. I think
at this point Clark Schmidt is someonewho you should just be fading. We
might not have much more time. That's That's really been one thing I've noticed
this season. Teams are a lotquicker, even the bad teams are a
(10:35):
lot quicker to give the hook toterrible pitchers. You know. We this
of course all started when you sawthe Arizona and Diamondbacks kick Madison Bumgarner to
the curb earlier on this season andforfeit, you know, fifty to sixty
million dollars and just say it doesn'tmatter, get off her team. You
know, Louis Sessa of the Reds, he was a guy I loved betting
(10:58):
against, and the Reds, whoaren't exactly stockpiled with great starting pitching options,
even they were like we're not doingthis anymore. So I think Clark
with you know, the Yankees obviouslygetting healthier. I think that's the big
thing. Um. You know,Carlos Rodon has not started throwing in games
yet, but apparently the back issuehe's been dealing with is feeling better.
(11:22):
You know, They've They've got LuisaVorino coming back this weekend, so that
rotation is is filling out again.Schmidt is just so bad, specifically against
left handed bats, that my twofavorite props going into today before I saw
a lineup were taking a shot ofAdlie Rushman and Cedric Mullins to hit home
runs. Both were over plus sixhundred in that regard lineup comes out.
(11:46):
Mullins isn't in there, so Iswitched over to Anthony santandair over one and
a half total bases at plus onefifteen. That one hit pretty quickly.
Santon Dare had singles tonight. Unfortunately, Adley Rushman not the best day at
the plate, so it wasn't ableto hit on that prop. Other than
(12:07):
that, I'm actively sweating h thisMariners Athletics game. I might be the
only person avidly watching an Athletics gameright now. Well, so I don't
worry sweating. I very much amas well. I'm glad you brought them
up because I was that was goingto be my next question. Should we
be just you know, I realizedtonight may bite us, and I hope
(12:28):
it doesn't. Nardily did already didearlier. This series is part of a
people's parlay that we did. ButI just feel like whomever on the run
line against Oakland is one of myfavorite props on a daily basis, But
right now the Mariners are not doingtheir job. Yeah, run line is
usually a pretty good way to go. I chose to go Logan Gilbert to
record a win that was plus onethirty, which I'll fully admit. Logan
(12:54):
Gilbert, for as amazing as hehas pitched so far this season, has
been, you know, the numberone guy who gets to complain about how
terrible the Mariners offense has been.So far this season, the man only
has two wins and nine starts, despite the fact he's been one of the
best pitchers in the American League statistically. And it's sort of playing out again
tonight as they're down to one inthe bottom of the fifth right now.
(13:18):
But yeah, you look at themoney line for the Mariners to night it
was minus two fifty. You figurethat they'll probably have the lead after five
innings. I know, one ofmy favorite stats going into tonight. The
Athletics on the first five line wereeight thirty four and nine heading into tonight,
so they had only been leading afterfive innings in eight of their games
(13:41):
so far this season. Again, not playing out exactly how we want it
so far tonight, but you know, the night is young. The Mariners
both then is very good, sowe'll see if that can turn around.
Garyan, withoud you being up inToronto, what is going on with the
Blue Jays two and nine in theirlast eleven games team, Outside of scoring
twenty against Tampa one night this week, they have just been pretty much getting
(14:03):
their face ripped off every single night. Is this a team, as betters
that we should be targeting against whenthey're playing the Al East? Yeah?
I mean, you guys will rememberlast season well for the Red Sox,
but I think it's I made thecomparison a couple of days ago, but
they really do seem to have whateverthe twenty twenty two Red Sox caught where
(14:26):
they cannot win divisional games they're twoand thirteen in the month against the AL
East. Unfortunately, for that particulartrend, it's going to be a little
while before they see another American LeagueYese team. I think early June.
They're right now, I'm going toplay the Twins starting this weekend. But
you know, we know about theAmerican League East dominance in terms of the
(14:48):
American League Ese versus any other division. I believe their winning percentage is still
hovering around sixty three sixty four inthose games, but for whatever reason,
the Blue Jays can just not seemto win those games. The offense has
been particularly bad in the clutch situations. They're still, you know, top
five in the league in batting average, they just can't seem to hit with
runners in scoring position. Alec Manoahhas been an absolute mess so far this
(15:11):
season. That has really hurt them. Yeah, it's just not going particularly
well so far. So at thispoint, if you see the Blue Jays,
especially if they happen to be thefavorite against an Ali's team, I'm
almost automatically betting the underdog. Sowhat about them? Friday night? They
are favored in Minnesota against the Twinswith Gosman on the mound. So Gosman's
(15:33):
about the only pitcher I really dotrust with the Blue Jays right now.
Again, one of those guys whohas been quite good regardless of whether you
want to use his surface statistics orhis era estimators. I will say the
Twins hit Kevin Gosman really well lastseason. They were one of a couple
of teams who really figured out thefour seam fastball splitter variants and they were
(15:56):
able to hold off on swinging atthat or I don't know if that was
a blip on the radar or ifthey have picked up on something that Kevin
Gosman is doing while he is onthe mound. But Louis Varland is not
exactly a guy that I'm willing totake a big chance on. You know,
his numbers are fine, his strikeoutnumbers are encouraging, but he's had
(16:18):
a lot of issues with the longball, specifically to right handed batters,
and the Blue Jays still do havea lot of right handed power. Again,
the American League Central is bad.I think the Twins are the best
bad team in that division, ButI would I would think the Blue Jays
win tomorrow. Maybe look at themin the next couple of games in that
(16:40):
series. I think at some pointJose Barrios is going to go to the
mound and that that might be agood time to fan him. There we
go, Gary and before we hitour break. Well, actually, there
are a couple of things. Onevery quickly, because you're an NBA guy
as well. The Celtics. Theyjust finished off to win a rather comfortable
one. All of us here, very good mood. I know this doesn't
yeah, I mean, you're aRaptors guy, so this it doesn't really,
(17:03):
you know, influence you one wayor the other unless you have just
an unreasonable hatred toward Boston. Ican't imagine you love Boston as a sports
city. What is your feeling onthis team and this series and whether or
not you think we will see historymade you think is a Blue Jay's Raptors
Dolphins fan. I hold any illwill for the city of Boston. No,
(17:26):
I love Boston. Look, we'vetalked, we've we've talked about this
series a lot, and I remember, even going into Game four, it
just got tough to sort of analyzethese games because at the end of the
day, regardless of the performance wehad seen in games one through three,
you still felt like the Celtics werethe better team. And I know everyone
was dunking on ESPN in their projectionanalytics, and you know, ninety seven
(17:51):
percent they were going to win thisseries, and then even down oh three,
I believe the number was seventy twopercent that ESPN's analytics still had the
Celtics winning the series. But youknow, I was I was talking about
this today with some people at DraftKings, and you know, they were the
Celtics entering tonight were plus two tento win this series, which which in
a vacuum seems insane considering theyre downthree one, but you sat there and
(18:18):
started going through it. They wereeight point favorites tonight. They're going to
be favored in Miami in Game six. I mean, they were an underdog
in Game four, but I thinkthat had more to do with the twenty
six point loss in Game three thananything. I mean, they were five
and a half six point favorites inGame three prior to that line. Moving
a little bit before tip, Imean, they're gonna be favorites in every
(18:38):
game left in this series. Soyou know, I'm someone who I'll admitted
I took the Celtics at sixteen toone to win the NBA Finals when they
were down oh three, I justfeel like they were still the best team
playing, and yes they have I'mthis woman's bet sixteen to one. That's
(19:00):
awesome. I mean again, they'rethey're the best team. Whether or not
they lay an egg in game six, I guess that's entirely possible. It
happened in games one and two andthree. But again, I just think
they're a better team. They've gotmuch more talent than the Heat, and
you know, if you go throughthe regular season statistics, the Heat are
just not a good offensive team andBoston's a very good defensive team. It
(19:22):
just seems like they should win thesegames. And we felts are. Dan
just looked it up. Lines outCeltics three point favorites at least open with
this game that begins in roughly fortyfive hours or maybe even a little less
than that. So Gary, you'regonna come back for one more segment.
What we're going to do is buildout the people's parlay, very easy look
ahead to tomorrow's action. I'll picka line, so we'll Dan, so
(19:45):
will you. We will build aparlay together and the only real rule here
is that by association, you areforced to play it. I don't care
what book you use or how muchyou invest. It could be a dollar,
could be one hundred dollars. Thatis your business. But you got
to play it so that we canhave the sweat together, my friend.
So that is the plan, andso do your research during the break.
When we come back, we'll buildout the people's parlay. Sick and tired
(20:08):
of old sports talk and want toget right into the action. The Gambler
with Adam Kaufman, as you covered, call us now with six one seven
two six six six eight six eight. That's six one seven two six six
six eight six eight. The Gamblerwith Adam Kaufman will be right back after
this on wr KO. I amjust assuming that I took an absolute bath
(20:34):
on this Celtics game tonight from abetting perspective. I know I did.
In the world of daily Fantasy,my lineups did not mesh with how this
game played out. But you didn'thave Haydon Highsmith or Heywood Highsmith, whatever
his name is in your lineup tonight. Yeah, I had a lot of
Kyle Lowry. Howd that go?So we will, well, not we,
but I and maybe if there's aparticularly you know, interesting hit,
(20:57):
I'll alert the masses after I actuallycheck my betting slip when everything is finalized.
But can't imagine it was a greatnight, But it was a great
night because the Boston Celtics won andthat is what matters. That will allow
me to go to sleep with asmile on my face on my pillow a
little bit later on tonight, butright now, it is time to build
out the People's parlay. Gary andThorne the Thornado back with us from DraftKings
(21:21):
and Mayo Media Network if you arenew to this. And unfortunately this was
another loss for the People's Parlay tonightbecause Al Horford and Grant Williams did not
do their jobs after the Saint LouisCardinals did. We will try to actually
have a successful parlay for tomorrow's action. Garyon will offer a leg Dan and
I will each do the same, and we will build and place our bets
(21:42):
together. So Garyon, start usoff, what are you looking at tomorrow?
Well, it's good to hear theCardinals came through tonight, because I'm
gonna ask the Cardinals, well sortof asked the Cardinals to come to her
again tomorrow. We're gonna take theunder eight in Cardinal Guardians on Friday Night.
(22:03):
Matthew Liberttor starting for the Cardinals. He's left handed, one of their
top prospects. The Guardians can't hitlefties, dead last in wOBA, dead
last and isolated power against left handedpitching so far this season the Guardians in
general, no American League team hashit the under as often as the Cleveland
Guardians, and they've got Shane Biebergoing to the mound for them. So
(22:23):
far this season, two earned runsare fewer and six of his ten starts
in twenty twenty three. The Cardinalsare hot right now, but I think
Bieber can sort of keep their batsunder wraps. I think this game goes
under eight, Dan, what doyou have? I'm gonna go to an
old, reliable tomorrow, and thatis the Chicago Cubs money line. When
Justin Steele is on the mound.Steel is six and one this season with
(22:45):
a two two ra a whip withjust one point one his numbers in day
games, which tomorrow is an afternoongame Friday afternoon at Wrigley against the Reds,
he is three and l with aone two two ra thirty seven innings,
just twenty eight hits around, hitsaloud, and just five earned runs
aloud in those thirty seven innings. So give me the Cubs to take down
(23:06):
the Reds tomorrow. Guys, Igotta tell you, I'm looking, and
it's there's not there's not like thisgreat opportunity to make this a real meaty
parlay, you know. I mean, I could get greedy, Adam.
We've lost seven in a row.Let's just get one. Gary. We
had started so hot too, wewent six and two out of the gate,
(23:26):
and we are slumping hard of I'lltell you what I'm between. I'm
looking at just generally their band,I realize it. But I'm looking at
the Mets on the on the moneyline. I'm looking at it. I'm
just it's an option. I'm lookingat the Astros run line. They are
in Oakland. Uh and uh.I was considering the Nationals at plus one
(23:48):
and a half or or even plusmoney on the on the money line.
And I'm also drawn a little bitto Pirates Mariners over seven. So I'm
kinda all over the place here, don't you just do? Like the Red
Sox money line. Yeah, Idon't start a new stream. Start a
(24:10):
new stream. I mean I don'tyet. Maybe by tomorrow I will.
But as I sit here at closeto eleven o'clock Eastern with you fellas,
I'm not into it right now.I do I do it? Do?
I just bet the home team ridethe high of the Celtics and go with
the Sox on the money line? What the hell, let's live. I'll
do it. Chris Sail you knowGary, and talked up you know Sail
on the Red Sox earlier that thiswill be kind of a it's like a
(24:30):
one and a half picks for Garyand and a half a pick for me.
But but I have no problem beinga homer. I'll do it.
And that puts our parlay it overplus four hundred anyway, which feels reasonable.
So let's do it. So we'vegot under eight in the Cardinals Guardians
game, and the Cubs and RedSox on the money line in their respective
games tomorrow. Does that work foreverybody? I like? It sounds good
(24:52):
to me. Perfect. It's notlike either of you had a choice.
That's what we're doing. You offeredthe legs we're gonna play it, so
I'm gonna place the bets right now. And uh and and much more basketball
coming up in the second hour. But garyon I had been working to get
you on the show here and I'mso glad we were able to make it
work tonight. And with you know, regardless of when the NBA season ends
for the Celtics weather that's in acouple of days or in a couple of
weeks, we know we're going tohave a couple of months with a lot
(25:15):
of baseball talk. So I lookforward to having you back on with us.
A lot of fun talking to youguys. Thanks for having me Gary
and Thorn again, DraftKings and MayomediaNetwork. We are going to break.
Matt Meiselman will join us again inthe next hour. He's about to be
my best friend on the phone realsoon. And uh, Celtics way you
had his address. I'm going toNew Jersey. I'm hanging out with the
(25:40):
Meiselman just gonna go down for theholiday weekend. Why why not? My
family doesn't need me, The Celticsneed me. We'll be right back.
Another hour of The Gambler with AdamKaufman is coming up on six eighty w
r k O. I'm so happy. I'm just so happy the Celtics won.
(26:02):
I went through all my bets andeverything like that. And of course
you know, either if Grant Williamshad had two more points or a three
pointer, which obviously would have achievedthe same, I would have had a
great night. Sadly he did not, so the night was fine. It
can still be a good night. If the Mariners, who have tied the
Athletics, they're in the seventh inning, if they can not only win but
win on the run line, thatcan really fix things for me. That
(26:25):
would be wonderful. But the focus, the focus is on our beloved Boston
Celtics, winners in blowout fashion forall intents and purposes for the second straight
game, to advance to force aGame six in the Eastern Conference Finals back
in Miami Saturday night. If allgoes well there, it's a big if
(26:47):
Miami's not lost at home during theplayoffs so far, it is do you
take nothing for granted, but youcan't help feel good after what we've seen
the last couple of games. Ifthe Celtics did their job there and get
back home for a Game seven,Miami did just lose it home the other
night, Well, that's true.Prior to that they had not lost night.
I apologize getting caught up too much, too much excitement, too much
(27:07):
excitement. Thank you for no Iappreciate the correction. If in fact,
the Celtics do their job in Miami, a second straight home lost because they
lose all the time in the playoffs, then they will have a Memorial Day
evening Game seven at the Garden, and I cannot imagine a better place to
be. But I got to getthere, got to do it. But
(27:30):
what is kind of unfortunate just forus Dan. I don't think anybody out
there really cares, but for usand for Eja it's unfortunate. Maybe for
my Selman as well when he joinsus in a little bit. We are
not going to have another show aftertonight until this series is over, right,
So when we sign off tonight,we're either going to be coming back
on Tuesday after the holiday recapping tosome degree in previewing the NBA Finals for
(27:56):
a team that does not involve theBoston Celtics or game it's a series,
or we will just be amped outof our arses and excited about four more
games at a minimum of the Celticsand getting ready to to you know,
our our tone and tune by thatpoint in time will be they're gonna trounce
the Nuggets. Fourt just made history, just pulled the O four socks and
(28:19):
now they're now they get that thatjoker and the no problem, easy sweep,
effortless. But obviously that's that's fortwo more got win, two more
games, gotta get there were eventhinking about it, so I asked a
buddy of mine to look it upbecause I saw my guy Greeny joke on
(28:40):
Twitter. Well plenty of teams havecome back from down three two. Yeah,
well it's the Sixers. That's that'sright, that's right, I mean,
very very recent history. So Iasked a friend of mine to look
it up because I didn't have timeduring our commercial. I was looking at
some other things. But uh intwo two credits to my guy seth in
two two one one one series teamsdown three two since nineteen eighty four,
(29:04):
again when the league expanded to sixteenplayoff teams, thirty five and one ninety
four happens all the time. Thirtyfive and one ninety four higher seeds twenty
and sixty three Celtics obviously being thehigher seed in this series. So before
(29:26):
we get into the betting stuff andlooking ahead to Game six and all of
that, we'll do that with Meiselmannfor the better part of this hour.
When he joins us in about tenminutes, how are you feeling coming out
of that game? A game inwhich the Celtics won the turnover battle,
didn't even turn the ball over tentimes. Obviously another elite night shooting threes.
(29:47):
This goes back to when we wereon with Whelan last night when Nick
Whalen was here and he started aquestion whether the Celtics could do what they
did from three point range in Gamefive, what they did in Game four,
and I pushed back on the air. I said, Nick, if
you want to talk about individuals likeAl Horford may not hit three three pointers,
or Jason Tatum may not hit fouror five three pointers, like that's
(30:11):
all well and good. Sure, like Grant Williams may not hit three three
pointers. But as a team,if the volume is there, and with
this team generally it is, ifthey're taking half or more of their shots
from three point range, you're gonnatell me they can't shoot forty percent from
three, and they did it fortyone percent from three. Sixteen of thirty
(30:34):
nine tonight obviously four for Smart, six for White, three for Brown,
who rediscovered his shot a little bit. You got twenty plus balanced offensive attack
out of Brown, White and Tatum. Taten didn't even need to drop twenty
five, let alone thirty or thirtyfive or forty to win this game.
Twenty one points, flirted with atriple double head, eleven assists, eight
(30:55):
rebounds. Al Horford of course missedthe double double on the points end,
but he was all over the glasswith eleven boards. Celtics got five steals
out of Marcus Smart. Shockingly, only two assists, but five steals out
of Marcus Smart. I mean, this is the lockdown defense, great ball
movement, shooting, protecting the ball. These are the Boston Celtics. These
(31:17):
are the team that we watched formonths, Dan Watkins, that I expected
to see at some point in thisseries, and we've seen it in back
to back games. Yeah, itwas an all around great team effort and
a great team win. As youmentioned, four guys with at least twenty
points to steals. At one point, they took a steal away from from
Horford and this one, there wasat one point in the bond the box
score, all five starters had atleast two steals they took. They took
(31:40):
Al's away. He only finished withone, but everybody else the other four
guys had two or more. Threefor Jalen Brown, who was much better
tonight. I think that is oneof the most positive takeaways from this game,
is that Jalen Brown might finally bestarting to, you know, play
like Jalen Brown again. In thisone, nine of eighteen field goals three
to five from three, which wasbig. He was what three for twenty
five heading into tonight from three pointrange? I believe that's accurate or somewhere
(32:04):
in that it was something really bad. But yeah, yeah, the entire
team, So sixteen three pointers tonightactually two less than in Game four the
other night, a couple of sixfewer attempts too, so their percentage was
up. So if they're gonna shootlike that, they're gonna shoot forty percent
from three point range. I justdon't think Miami has the firepower to keep
up. What are you expecting? And again we will get into this more
(32:25):
so with Meiselmann a little bit Butwhat are you expecting in Game six,
whether it's on the Boston side, and whether or not just the hot shooting
can continue, you know, becauseobviously this is for the most part with
the Celtics have been. This isn'tlike some you know, what Miami did
in the first three games compared totheir larger regular season sample size was an
(32:46):
aberration. It was strange, itwas weird, it was out of character.
This what we've seen from the Celticsover the last two games. This
is who they are, right,This is what we expect to see going
forward in this series, you know, versus you know the first three games
where they were nothing like this,What are you expecting to see both on
the Boston side offensively and the Heatside offensively. Again, knowing Gabe Vincent
(33:07):
may or may not return, wedon't know his status. So it was
a very quiet night for Jimmy Butlertonight. Just fourteen points. Obviously he
didn't play I did he played allin the fourth quarter. If he did,
it was only maybe a minute ortwo I saw him. He had
like the long sleeves on within likewithin a couple minutes. But anyways,
just fourteen points or him tonight,so you know he's gonna come out like
a madman on Saturday Night. I'mexpecting the entire Heat team to come out
(33:28):
guns blazing, and the Celtics aregonna have to withstand these there's an early
run from Miami, because I thinkMiami's gonna come out trying to put a
knockout punch on the Celtics early. And Celtics can hang around and hit their
shots early, then I like theirchances Saturday night a lot. I just
kind of can't believe we're here, even though, well, you kind of
hinted at it the other night.I mean you said, if they can
(33:50):
get back to a game five, they're gonna win at home, and here
we are, so I know,I just sort of can't believe that it's
coming to fruition. Like you know, it's because I was saying, I
was saying all of this like tryingto speak get into existence, right,
But I did believe it, youknow, I was saying going into Game
four, I said it on thisshow. If they win Game four,
they win Game five, and thenwho knows what happens in game six?
Yea, And here we are nowstaring down at Game six and it's but
(34:14):
what makes me feel good. Iknew I would feel good if they won
two straight games, But what makesme feel good in particular is that they're
not squeaking by. They have wonboth of these games in dominating fashion.
They have locked in rediscovered their defensiveidentity, which in large part was not
who they were the bulk of thisyear. The offense absolutely, which we
(34:37):
highlighted, but defensively that was,you know, kind of missing the first
half of the year, inconsistent throughoutpoints of the second half, and certainly
in the first couple series of theplayoffs. But these last two games,
you know, I saw a tweetlike Celtics six and O in the playoffs
when they hold the team below onehundred points, keep playing your game defensively
(35:00):
and they are a very difficult teamto beat. Absolutely, and the way
they've been rebounding the last two gamestoo. Just looking at the rebounds tonight,
So the rebound total finished thirty seventhirty six, But it felt bigger.
It did. It felt much bigger, especially in that first half.
They were getting offensive rebounds, secondchance points, points in the paid.
(35:21):
The Celtics were attacking early. Obviously, Bam kind of went off there for
a little bit in the third quarter, which I think definitely affected these numbers
and the total here and why itseems so close, But in just sixteen
turnovers from Miami too to just tenfor the Celtics, and it was a
it was ten nothing where their Miamihad ten of them at one point in
the first half. I think itwas so the Celtics defense has come to
(35:42):
play here. Finally they get awin at home, which is hues.
They were what four and five athome before tonight it wasn't great. Yeah,
so five and five. They've beenmuch better on the road and that
gives me a little bit of confidencegoing into Saturday Saturday night too. And
as far as betting this, Imean, if I think the Celtics are
gonna win, I might as welllay the three points. Oh absolutely,
so yeah, I don't think ifthey win this game, I don't think
they're you know, winning on abuzzer Peter, or winning by two or
(36:06):
you know something like that. Yeah. Absolutely. You know, if we
were starting to talk five and ahalf money line's actually not tero. It's
minus one forty five, which forthis series, that's not bad. Honestly,
if if you believe, like,if you have the conviction, we
can ask Dan this, if youhave the or Matt, pardon me,
you're Dan. If we have theconviction to bet the Celtics in Game six,
and I'm going to say we probablydo, then you're probably better off
(36:30):
just making the bet tonight, becauseif there's enough money swinging on Boston like
that, that line is going tobecome you know, it's not it's not
going to like go to minus twohundred or something, but you know it's
going to get less favorable than whatit's sitting at right now, right and
the other thing. So the totalopened at two twelve, which was the
lowest total so far this series. It's not already down to two ten and
a half. So when we kindof saw this last year in this in
(36:52):
the Eastern Conference Finals as well,I think they hit the over in three
of the first four games, andthen games five, six, and seven,
we're all unders as a defense hasfinally showed up here later in the
series, which is pretty commonplace anNBA series. Just saw tweet credit Shane
Young, not to confuse him withShane Trail who joined us on this show,
or and we got to give himsome credit before the show's over.
(37:14):
We do. Shane Young tweeted outLarry Bird in his first ninety two playoff
games two thousand, one ninety onepoints, Jason Tatum in his first ninety
two playoff games two thousand, onehundred ninety one points. That's just crazy.
Yeah, well, I don't wonderhow many how many threes did how
many threes did Larry take comparedit Tatum. I'm gonna say it's a very small
(37:36):
number. Yeah, yeah, there'suh. In fact, what I can
tell you because there was a followup tweet here, total shots it took
Bird approximately, Well, I don'tneed to approximate. I can actually do
the math. It took Bird onehundred eight more shots to get there.
(37:57):
So that I mean speaks to yourcomment about three pointers. Yeah, obviousitely,
So there you go. All right, Well, let's let's take a
breath, let's take a moment.Let's uh, let's let's take off the
Celtics footy pajamas or put them on, depending on what you're doing. And
Matt Meisleman would join us when whenwe come back, we for preview in
(38:19):
game six, Baby, it's theGambler with Adam Kaufman on w r KO.
An event a bad bad bets,You've come to the right place.
Tell us about it. Call sixone seven two six six six eight six
eight six one seven two six sixsix eight six eight, or if you're
listening on the iHeartRadio app, usethe talkback button. The Gambler with Adam
(38:43):
Kaufman will be right back after thison WRKO. Celtics Seed Game six coming
to Miami on Saturday night, MemorialDay weekend. Rumors of the Celtics demise
greatly exam draded. They're alive,They're alive. Kaufman back with you The
(39:04):
Gambler with Adam Kaufman, Dan Watkinsthis year producer e J. Pacheco,
he is beside himself with joy.Oh, it's just it's so nice,
and it's so nice to welcome backbecause we're a little superstitious. Lucky the
Leprechaun. Matt Meiselman rejoins this program. He is, of course, from
the value betting discord. I havetalked about it. He is someone who
(39:28):
is so high on Boston last year, very early on. I know he
loves this praise, but he deservesevery ounce of it for the amount of
money that he won off of theCeltics reaching the NBA Finals, based upon
when he started laying tons and tonsof money on them in early January.
Well here we are now, Meiselman. He came on with us for the
previous game Celtics one. We said, let's book him again. Celtics won.
(39:51):
Matt, we don't have a showSaturday night? You just want to
you want to talk on the phoneor what? Yeah? Wait, why
don't we have a show Saturday night? Like? Are we gonna just ruin
the momentum that we have going withme being on and me making the Celtics
win because I feel like I deserveall the credit hour? Is that not
fair? Do we need to havelike a specialty podcast that can just you
know, we won't be live onthe radio, but it we'll just go
(40:13):
direct to pod Watkins. Is thatwe'll start crafting the email to management.
Yeah, maybe that's we're just willfullygiving up our Saturday nights for the greater
good. Matt. I think it'sdefinitely worth it, Like whatever it takes.
I know, like Boston fans aresuperstitious, Sponge and honestly, this
it sort of pains me because Iwas a I'm not really as much anymore,
(40:35):
but I was a diehard Yankees fanin two thousand and four. I
don't know if I'm allowed to saythat to you guys, but you can
say, I mean, not anymoreholds a little more water for you.
So that's good. Yeah, Iknow, I got bored. We won
too much, so I thee point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
there we go. Do they allowa Rod and Jeter in the building
Saturday night, by the way,I hope, so I feel like it
(40:57):
makes it better, right, Likedo they want to be there? I
feel gets PTSD for them, soI don't know if they actually but are
they Celtics fans? And now Ifeel like they kind of are, so
they shouldn't be coming around. Butyeah, I mean this is great that
we're sort of celebrating, like itfeels like we already won the series,
but obviously we still have the longway to go and Game six is the
real test. So I feel okayabout it, Like I know we're going
(41:19):
to get to it, but thatgame is probably pretty close to a coin
flip, and then obviously we canwin that one. Game seven. I
don't I'm not as constanted as CharlesBarkley that like, Game six is the
game seven, and if Boston winsthat it's over. But Game six clearly
is like the bigger tests there.Well, I think from a betting perspective,
and you tell me what you think. In terms of precise numbers,
(41:43):
you're very well established in this space. But if Boston were to win Game
six, like, let's just jumpahead, if Boston were to win Game
six and force to Game seven,it being in Boston three straight wins,
and the fact that you know, like Matt and I were talking during the
break, the Celtics are plus onefifteen. As I predicted Matt during our
last segment that if they win thisgame, they're going to basically be even
money to come back and win thisseries, plus one fifteen to win this
(42:06):
series. The disrespect for Miami andor overvaluing of the Celtics has been present
since before the series even started. If this goes to a game seven,
Meiselman, I mean, the Celticson the money line are going to be
like minus three seventy. Yeah,I think that's probably about right. I
mean, there's a lot going onnow, so clearly the odds makers are
(42:27):
reacting to how the games are going. Like the Celtics didn't just win the
last two, they won them convincingly, so that's going to move the line
a bit. We have Gabe Vincentdealing with an injury. He missed tonight's
game. Will he be back,We're not sure. And then we have
Malcolm Brogden, who, honestly, like, maybe I'm just bitter because I
was on Emmanuel Quickly for six spanof the year at pretty long odds,
(42:49):
So I just have like a generaldislike for Brogdon because he costs me that
bet. But like, I don'tthink Brogden is a huge deal because the
Celtics are just so deep in thebackward like Pritchard can step up if needed.
Grant Williams has played well the lastcouple of games, So the injuries
I think may move the market,I don't think they affect the game,
not much like Vincent has overperformed.Brobden is not that big of a deal.
(43:09):
But based on how those injuries shakeout and who's available for the upcoming
games, that may affect what lineswe see. But I would agree like
the Celtics deserve to be at leastminus three hundred for a game seven if
they get that far. I justmean that the line we're going to see
is going to be dependent on alot of things that we don't know yet.
Do you feel like this is sustainablethe play that we have specifically seen
(43:30):
from the Celtics the last couple ofgames. I said to Dan in our
previous segment that I believe it isbecause this is more of an indication of
who Boston is these last two gamesversus what we saw from Miami the first
three games of this series, andthey're larger sample size over the course of
the year and the postseason as well. Do you think that it's I know,
like everyone's talking about like the uphillclimb where Chase in history we've never
(43:53):
seen it. But this is not, and has never been, your typical
three O deficit based on the team'son each side. We talked about this
with you the other night. Sodo you believe that what the Celtics are
doing right now over these last twogames there's reason to believe it will continue?
I mean, I would say mostlylike the margin of victory is a
(44:15):
bit dependent on luck. But theCeltics, as we talked about two nights
ago, are the better team. So, like, do we expect Miami
to come back and beat them inGame six because they're going to even things
out? And maybe you know theywere saving some energy for the game at
home because they knew Game five wouldbe a little harder. I don't really
think any of that is real,But I think Boston should be favored in
(44:39):
both remaining games because they're significantly betterteam and they're better buy enough where even
the home court advantage for Miami isnot enough to offset the difference between the
two teams. So, like theCeltics I think are a four to five
point better team than Miami, homecourt is only worth two or three points.
The Celtics should be favored in Gamesix, and then of course they
should be favored in Game seven. So what I say that this level of
(45:01):
production is sustainable? Not really, but they don't need that, right,
Like the Celtics don't have to winevery game by ten plus to win the
series. They can play a littlebit worse than this. They can actually
probably play a lot worse than thisand still win the next two games.
Knowing that the Celtics are three pointfavorites, and on the money line,
depends where you look, but let'ssay Ballpark minus one forty on the money
(45:22):
line for Game six. Let's justcall that a relatively universal number right now
across books. If you have theconviction that Boston's going to win Game six,
is it better to just make thebet right now? Lines just open?
Just make the bet because you believethat the line could shift quite a
bit depending on how the money comesin, or do you think that doesn't
really matter and you could take acouple of days to think about it.
(45:44):
You're not going to lose much value. So to be honest, I don't
want to bet Boston in Game six. I'm not sure if I want to
bet Miami like three points, itfeels a bit high, Like I would
probably put the number more like two. So if you're a Celtics fan and
you just want them to win, just you know, hope they win,
Like, I don't think it's asituation where you need to bet if you
(46:05):
have Celtics series futures, I thinkyou just kind of ride with what you
have. So Like, personally,I have the plus eight hundred from two
games ago. I'm not adding anythinglike minus three sounds if anything too high,
like there's no value on Boston atthis point. I think there was
value because everyone had assumed they weregoing to give up for Game four,
and we were getting tons of valuefor the series prior to the fourth game.
(46:28):
Right now, if anything, I'mgoing to bet the Heat, but
I think the numbers right, Like, I'm probably just staying away from him.
Our mutual friend Gary and Thorne wason with us earlier and we talked
to him. We're mostly baseball, but we talked to a little basketball.
As the game was finishing, heoutdid you, my friend? He took
the Celtics down three zero. Hemade a sixteen to one bet on the
(46:49):
Celtics to come back and win thechampionship. Well, I'm impressed with that
for sure. I didn't go thatfar. And honestly, like, I'm
probably high on Denver than most people. So there's a couple of things working
here. Like I'm not sure theCeltics are better than the Nuggets. I
think the teams are very close. But there's the rest verse rust argument that
(47:10):
people will make. I think restwins like the Nuggets are in a massive
advantage spot getting all this time off, getting to prepare for their opponents.
The Celtics had no time to gameplan for Denver. Right now, they
have to worry about Jimmy Butler, they have to worry about Miami. They
can't think about Denver. Yet Denvercan think about both of these teams.
So I think the rest and Ithink the ability to scheme for these two
(47:32):
teams it helps Denver a lot.So like, I'm not sure who's going
to be favored in the finals ifthe Celtics get that far, but I
think I preferred the East bet tothe finals. Obviously they're both good.
Like if you got sixteen to oneon the Celtics when the finals, where
are they now? Like four toone or three to one. So I
mean props the Guarian for that forsure, But I was just I liked
(47:53):
both of them. I was justskewing a little more towards the East because
I think I just like Denver morethan the market sets. It's mild to
me, so this makes sense. The Heat are still favored to come out
of the East, although it's it'spretty close to a coin flip as we
talked about, but the Celtics havebetter championship bods than Miami by a considerable
(48:15):
margin. I'm plus three hundred versusplus six hundred. Does that make sense
to you? Yeah? Absolutely so. People get confused about this all the
time. Just because a team isfavored to beat a team in a series
doesn't mean they are more likely towin the subsequent series, because if the
Heat win, they are far lesslikely to win their next series than the
Celtics are if they are to win. So if let's say right now,
(48:36):
Celtics forty five percent to win theEast Heat or fifty five percent, that
still means that the Celtics are thirtysomething percent chance to win the championship potentially
in the Heat are only like tenbecause who matches up better with Denver?
I mean, forget like intricacies ofthe specific matchup. The Celtics have a
far better chance to beat Denver, just as they're a way better team.
(48:57):
So that does make sense. Ithink Miami should be favored to win the
series right now, very slightly. But I think the Celtics should be much
lower odds to win a championship becausethey're just a far superior team. All
right, we are going to takea break more with Matt Meiselman. We
will dive deeper into Game six.I know we've gotten ahead of ourselves.
We've looked a little bit beyond. How can you not be excited though as
a Celtics fan about what is happeningand you get a little over zealous and
(49:20):
you do that and it's natural.Meiselman, who was in New Jersey,
was referring to the seas as we. I mean, this is what happens
when you're riding the emotional highs ofseeing a team that you have money on
or you just believe in or whateverit is, actually finding success. Meislman
will rejoin us when we come back. We will get into game six more
about the betting lines. We willpredict a little bit some of the betting
(49:40):
strategies since obviously prop totals are notout yet, but we will explore some
of that fantasize a little bit aboutwhat we will do as it comes to
making our bets. This is theGambler with Adam Kaufman w RKO sick and
tired of bold sports talk and wantto get right into the action. The
Gambler, Adam Kaufman, has youcovered call us now in six one seven
(50:02):
two six six six eight six eight. That's six one seven two six six
six eight, six eight The Gamblerwith Adam Kaufman will be right back after
this is on w r K.Oh. All right, well, we're
looking ahead the game six between theCeltics and Heat in Miami. Matt Mesloman
back with us. I mean, are you walking home? Did you just
(50:24):
step out this outside the bar tojoin us? I know you went out
for the game. What's I wantto know exactly the level of dedication you
have to this program and this team'ssuccess. So I am on the streets
of Hoboken, New Jersey, andsome guy while we were talking about the
comeback walk by an Aaron Judge,Jersey, and he did not look happy.
There are a lot of Yankee fansout here, so I feel like
(50:45):
this is the best place to talkabout this. I think it's an actually
ideal Oh, I love it.I love it? All right. So,
like I said, we do notknow exactly what you know, the
props player props are going to looklike for game six. You know those
will trickle out tomorrow. But thereare certainly some consistencies in this series.
In fact, actually, now thatI'm looking at it, some are starting
(51:07):
to come out. Tatum thirty anda half points, Brown twenty two and
a half, Butler twenty eight anda half, Bam seventeen and a half
and on. Those are only theplayer props that I'm seeing right now for
points, but you know other categoriesas well. I guess one place to
start, and I'm sure that Danhas some stuff for you as well.
(51:29):
With all the three pointers over thelast couple of games and just zero win
on tonight, Smart four for six, White six of eight, Brown three
of five, White in particular ananimal three three pointers in every game of
this series before the six tonight wherehe went six of eight. At what
point do you start to get alittle three happy? You know, are
(51:51):
where you really lean in because youknow the volume is going to be there
and the looks are going to bethere. Where you really lean in on
some of these over three point props, whether it's looking for value at plus
money or just playing them because youbelieve they're going to hit, or even
I'm combining a lot of things, you know, making a three pointer parlay,
Get get a little wild, geta little frisky with this map.
(52:14):
Yeah, So I'm looking at thenumbers now, like the attempts were not
that high. It's just the successrate on the three. It was really
good, So I don't think Iwant to chase it just because I don't
think the Celtics will shooting that much. Like sixteen to thirty nine. Thirty
nine is a pretty standard game.I don't think it was anything extraordinary,
so I'm not I think like thethree pointers that are worth betting, Grant
(52:36):
Williams makes sense, like he wentone for four. I think we may
get a reasonable wine under because heis probably the guy that most directly benefits
from Malcolm Bronson being unavailable. Soif Broaddon is not playing next game,
I think Grant is the guy Ilook at. I don't know that we're
we want to call it value onanyone else, especially because the game's going
back to Miami. It's just goingto be harder for Boston in general.
(53:00):
I didn't realize this was true, but Dumpcan Robinson had nine assists night.
What do we like? I knowwe talked about him the other night that
he would benefit from Dave Vincent offplaying, but that is really wild that
he was that productive passing like that. I just don't really know what to
do with that super efficient In general, I mean, he had eighteen points
on seven and ten shooting, didn'teven play thirty minutes. Like you said,
the nine dimes turned the ball overonce. He was a plus player,
(53:22):
which was rare to begin with onthe Miami side in this game.
So yeah, I mean he's aguy. Depending on the book you're looking
at, it's hard to even findprops on him. And I'm talking about
once everything is out, Like goinginto this game tonight, there were barely
any Robinson props. I have toimagine though, that's going to change,
right, Yeah, So I saweight and a half two and I'm regretting
(53:45):
not betting me over on that becausehe, to me was the guy who
would benefit from Vincent playing. Buthis points props were like five and a
half six and a half before,so in my mind that was already accounted
for, but maybe it wasn't accountingfor enough. So we're certainly going to
see a higher night for him forgame six, maybe eleven and a half
points. I'm probably staying away there, but Grant Williams had a points prop
(54:06):
open around six and a half,a close seven and a half. If
we get him and those numbers again, like, I think he's playing enough
minutes where we want the oberon GrantWilliams. So maybe other guys are inflated
because they shot the ball well, like you said, smart Brown, but
Grant didn't really score much. Soif I'm looking to a specific spot,
it's probably I would say it's twothings. It's the over on Grant Williams
(54:29):
if Brodden's out, but then itmight be the under on Duncan Robinson if
gave Vincent returns, because we couldget an inflated number on Robinson now and
if Vincent plays, Robinson might justbe relegated to the world that he had
the first few games in the series. So I think we have to wait
out these injuries. Like it's reallyhard to say without knowing who's going to
be available. Just on Twitter,Jalen Brown referred to Game four as the
(54:51):
beginning of the atonement the Celtics. The Celtics are getting biblical in their comeback.
How do you feel that Jalon Brown'smeeting appearances in general? Like he's
a wild card obviously, like hesaid a lot, But are you happy
when he talks to the media orwould you rather him just you know,
be quiet? No, I listen, I'm not the shut up and dribble
type and I know that's not whatyou're inferring, but but I you know,
(55:13):
it's like no, no, no, I totally totally, I totally
get it. No. I loveI love when Jalen meets the media because
while he sometimes holds back, likeafter that Game three loss, you know,
he was asked what was going throughhis mind and he was asked about
decisions out there on the floor, and he, you know, he sort
of took a deep breath and saidthat, like you could just tell.
(55:35):
I don't remember the exact quote, but you could tell there was a lot
going through his head that he wasnot about to, you know, kind
of spill the tea if you will, or reveal whatever. He was a
little more buttoned up, but attimes, uh, he is one of
those guys that will speak his mindbeyond obviously you know, important life issues
and social justice movement and so onand so forth, just purely talking basketball,
(56:00):
he will open up a little bit. And so I love it and
I'll much prefer it over you know, a like a Devin Booker, no
showing after a loss and then noteven meeting the media after a season.
I want to hear all these guys, and I enjoyed the media availability from
Jalen and company. No, absolutely, that makes sense. And yeah,
(56:20):
it feels like there's so much goingon behind the scenes with the Celtics that
we just don't know yet, Likewhat are we going to find out after
the season is over? Like whatwas really going on with Al Burford and
like the way he tries to pumpup the team? What was Brown implying
because he said a lot of veryvague things that we just don't really know
what he was getting at. SoI feel like a lot is just going
to come to light when the season'sover. But hopefully, hopefully it's a
(56:42):
bit longer because I would like tosee the Celtics play the Nuggets in the
finals one because you know, bettingwise, it would be cool for you
guys, the Celtics fans, Ifeel like you deserve it, and then
it would just be a better seriesto see Boston play Denver. Like I
don't want to see any more withMiami, but there has been a lot
of fun, but I've had enoughat this point. Yeah, and as
they and I'm just saying this asa Celtics fan. I'm just saying this
as a basketball fan. As theyget more and more banged up, they're
(57:06):
just you know what, and maybeHero would be capable of returning down the
line. I don't know they talkedabout that during the broadcast, but they're
just getting so thin to the pointwhere you know, you're watching guys that
you don't typically watch in the NBAFinals, and Butler is just not enough,
you know, like there's not enoughstar power on that team to where
as you acknowledged earlier, it wouldbe a compelling series at all, Like
(57:30):
Denver could win that thing in asweep. Yeah, I definitely think that's
true. And also I would sayI'm probably I probably think more highly of
Jimmy Butler than anyone like I thinkhe's a top five player in the NBA.
But at the same time, Iprobably think less of Miami supporting cast
than anybody like Bam out a Bio. I don't think he's a good offensive
(57:52):
player. He's very good defensively, but he's not in my top thirty players
in the NBA. So even thoughButler is this great, I think part
of why Bam looks so good andpart of why there are other role players
look so good is because Butler isamazing and Spoilsterer is a great coach,
and if you put some of theseguys on other teams, like, they're
just not that exciting of players. So this is it really to me is
(58:13):
like a one man show. AndI really love watching Jimmy Butler, but
like, the Celtics are a muchmore engaging team. I know there's been
a lot made of like is Denveran exciting basketball team? You were tweeting
about it a little bit, likeI would love to watch Denver play Boston,
So financially it would be great. In terms of what's compelling, I
think it would be great. Andyeah, Miami just increasingly is getting more
and more hurt. I don't thinkwe're gonna see Tyler hero in the finals
(58:35):
if they make it, so forthat reason too, Like, yeah,
I think a sweep is actually nota crazy call for Denver over Miami if
that ends up beating the match up. Is there anything that you know we're
just talking about three point props specifically, and you mentioned like points for Grant
or even Robinson potentially in this nextgame, depending on the status of Gabe
Vincent. If again, all theprops are not out obviously, but just
(58:57):
based on what we've seen through fivegames, do you feel like there are
certain guys or categories that you wereeither on one side going to target or
obviously fade and you look at asreally good underspots. Yeah. For me,
it's always the injuries. If Broddenthe thing I'm curious about. So
we talked about Brogden the other night. I was saying if his points prop
(59:19):
was double digits, I was veryinterested in the under. His points prop
came out at eight and a half, so that was too low for me
to bet the under. In hindsight, it would have been a great bet
because he only played a few minutes. But I would be very interested to
see where that is set if he'savailable for the next game, Like,
could we see Malcolm Brogden just playeight minutes or something? Do you expect
(59:40):
him to play the next game, because I guess that's the one spot where
I think there's gonna be a tonof value to me. The scenario where
Brodden comes back and plays twenty plusminutes. Again, I think that's off
the table. Like I don't thinkwe see him play more than twelve minutes
in a game in this series again, and he may he may not play
until next round, or you know, he may not even play again the
season. Is that all space ordo you think prompting yeah, what's your
(01:00:04):
read on? No, I thinkthat's completely possible. And I was just
going to say, but you alreadystarted to address it that I think it's
I don't know. Obviously, thereare the reports that he has the partially
torn ligament in the the elbow tothe forearm, and but I don't know
the extent of the injury. Obviouslyit's not so severe that he couldn't play
tonight. But once they got himout there, whether it was the level
(01:00:27):
of play which was not good,or how he was feeling, which we
can't put ourselves inside his body,I have no idea, But whatever the
combination, it resulted in him forthe third straight game playing sub twenty minutes,
and as you said, tonight, sub ten And I just don't see
that on two days rest getting better, or if there's a game seven on
four days rest, getting better. So I think it's and and they've shown
(01:00:51):
they don't need him to win thesegames, so I think it's very reasonable
to think that, you know,he could sit until the next round if
they're fortunate enough to get there.I think that's very possible. And so
it then becomes, you know,Joe Missoula is not gonna he could continue
to go seven deep, you know, he basically did tonight. But maybe
it opens up an opportunity for PeytonPritchard and maybe that's a guy that you
(01:01:12):
look at. Yeah, I mean, I don't know that we'll see any
prop lines available for Pritchard. ButI don't actually think there's a big drop
off there, Like Brogden is abetter player than Pritchard, but it's not
by that much. Like they reallydon't lose a lot. The Celtics have
this luxury where their third unit,it would probably be the best second unit
for you know, they'd be likea top five second unit in the NBA
(01:01:34):
with Houser and Cornet and Pritchard,Like these guys can play. So I
like, as someone who's rooting forthe Celtics, now, I don't particularly
care. I just don't want Brogdenout there if he's going to hurt the
team. But if he's just outof the lineup, I just don't think
it's a big deal. Meiselman,I know we don't have a show Saturday,
but in one form or another you'llbe hearing from me. I can
promise you that. Thanks so muchfor hopping on with us again on short
(01:01:54):
notice anytime, and yeah, absolutelywe got a FaceTime or something for the
game or journey. And if there'sa point in the game where you feel
like it's not going right and youneed some good vibes, you need to
turn out you're supersptitious mind needs it. Yeah, just let me know.
I'm ready. Meiselman from the Valuebetting Discord. Follow him. He'll make
you money. That's what his accountsays, and it's true. I've tailed
him before. You should do ittoo. We're gonna step aside. When
(01:02:15):
we come back, it'll be timeto put this show to bed. You
need event a bad bets. You'vecome to the right place, tell us
about it. Call six one seventwo six six six eight six six one
seven two six six six eight sixeight, or if you're listening on the
iHeartRadio app, use the talkback button. The Gambler with Adam Kaufman will be
(01:02:39):
right back after this on WRKO.Now it's time to put this show to
bed with my pillow. All right, Well, tracking some numbers here Dan
Watkins checking on the People's parlay sofar this week. It's not great,
(01:03:01):
it is not at all, butthere's more to it than just the oo
and three. The straight legs arefour and five. Okay, so that's
you know, if we always tellthe people bet I'm straight, Yep,
that's more reasonable. So while thePeople's Parlay, as we are on the
cusp of closing out the week andhopefully tomorrow, as we went all baseball,
naturally, that's what's happening. Wewent all baseball. Hopefully, it
(01:03:23):
gives us our first and only winof the week to salvage the week.
We are right now six and nine, nice for a total Straits record of
twenty eight sixteen and one. Okay, so still very respectable. Yep.
Very profitable, very absolutely profitable, and that that is what matters most for
(01:03:44):
the people. Ye and I'm excitedwe have another self this game to look
forward to. But right now we'reputting the show to bed. Thank you,
my pillow. I will I don'tknow if I'll be able to sleep
on my pillow tonight because I'll justbe lying there, surfing Twitter and reading
all of these wonderful articles and talkingabout how the Celtics are going to make
history. I will feel good aboutthat. But as we look ahead to
(01:04:06):
Friday, what are you on?Yeah, it's a interesting night because we
have no basketball, no hockey inthe Red Sox don't start until nine forties,
so we gotta find something else tooccupy ourselves within the meantime. But
going through this baseball slate, itis juicy, Adam, I am looking
at this. So it's Friday, all thirty teams are in action. Twelve
of these starting pitchers tomorrow night,Friday night have an ERA over five,
(01:04:30):
so it's feeling like a twelve twelveof thirty. That is an insane number.
And then there's also I think twoat least two pitchers that are making
their major league debuts tonight. Sothat's almost half the league that you could
see getting like lit up tomorrow night. So I am going after some overs.
I really like the over nine inthe Yankee Padre game at Yankee Stadium,
Joe Musgrove gets lit up repeatedly. He's gets serving up with home runs
(01:04:54):
and he's playing in a little leaguepark tomorrow night, so I'm expecting plenty
of home runs in that one Ilike the over nine over eight and a
half in the Rangers Baltimore game,Grayson Rodriguez is on the mound. He
has been getting lit up repeatedly inthis Rangers offense is no joke. Might
even once the player props come out, might be going after Marcus Simeon and
this one who's been red hot andjust feeding off a right handed pitching.
(01:05:16):
And then, as I love, the Cubs play tomorrow for my people's parlay,
and then I'm kind of taking onGarion's advice there. I took the
Blue Jays tomorrow night now that they'renot playing the Gauntlet of the American League
East and they're in Minnesota, soI took Toronto moneyline as well. Already
most of the action is obviously atnight, but you're going right after the
People's part lay. Nice and earlyfirst game of the day two twenty Eastern
(01:05:40):
time, thirty Yep, my guyJustin Steele on the mound six and one
this year, all right, somethingto keep an eye on. And yeah,
it seems like a big day forfor some overs. Obviously the Rangers
Orioles. One's getting a lot ofattention on the over eight and a half
right now under in that Cleveland andCardinals game, which obviously we talked about.
(01:06:01):
That's part of the people's parlay.I am certainly going to be on
the Mets. I'm gonna unban themfor a night on the money line.
See what happens. I'll be onthe Astros money line and run line inevitably,
because yep, they're in Oakland, like the Nationals at maybe at plus
money, but definitely at plus runline as well. Also true, maybe
(01:06:23):
even the Rays at plus one anda half. Something to think about.
So big week, We're not goingto be back with you, I guess
until Tuesday, So everybody have agreat Memorial Day weekend. GOO Celtics times
too, and hopefully we have anNBA Finals series featuring Boston to preview and
a Game one to preview when wecome back on the air here on Tuesday
