W r k OH presents Boston's only nightly sports betting show,
The Gambler with Adam Kaufman. Now from nine till midnight,
You're home to talk spreads, props, totals and more.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey, Doc, and.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
What's the harm in bringing back a little info in
the future.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
I mean we could be a place couple baths. The
Gambler starts now, all.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
I have to do is bet on the winner and
I'll never lose.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Hears Adam Kaufman.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
Welcome in everyone, Happy Tuesday. This is The Gambler with
Adam Kaufman. We've got Dan Watkins here, Brian but on
the board fellas. Hey yo, Hey, busy day, busy, busy
day in the world of sports, even busier here tonight
across college basketball, NBA, NHL, and certainly the guests here
(00:52):
on this program. Here's the deal. We are going to
have Danny burkeon with a smad Shopper and Stochastic in
this opening hour look at some late game action in
the NBA, and there are multiple games that we'll be
able to talk about, the Clippers and the Suns. That
purgatory game that starts in about an hour from now.
Pelican's Lakers will be on the air sweating whether you
(01:13):
play it or not. We'll just be sweating the narrative
in and of itself of Lebron James and that potential
first basket. They are ninety minutes out and a lot
of people on the Lakers minus eight and a half
in this one. No Austin Reeves, but you do have
Luca who was upgraded from questionable it's probable, which means
we will see him out there, and of course Lebron's
(01:34):
that two man tandem. A lot of people in that contest.
We'll get into this with Danny are on, Trey Murphy
overs simply figuring the JJ Reddick is going to scheme
out Zion Williamson and therefore the offensive production is going
to come from elsewhere, and elsewhere typically means Murphy. So
something to think about. Of course, with this Clippers Sons game,
(01:55):
you have the Zubot's rebound angle, you know, not a
ton of size on the other side. And will it
be a Durant game, will it be a Booker game?
Maybe neither one. Everything else is in progress right now.
We are sweating out plays that we gave out last night. Bucks.
This was all over the map in terms of line movement,
so opened at minus four and a half, we played
(02:18):
it at minus five and a half. It got as
high as minus seven when I was looking at one
point d earlier today, and then dip back down, which
I didn't entirely understand. I think it was more function
of guys getting ruled in for Atlanta who were projected
to potentially miss this game in the eyes of the books.
But you also had Kyle Kuzma who was ruled in
(02:39):
and it was feeling like he wasn't going to play.
I thought that would skew maybe even more to Milwaukee,
but it didn't. So line did come back down, I
think to where we bet it, maybe even got to
four and a half by tip again. But again five
and a half is what we are on and the
Bucks are right now tied with two minutes to go
in the third quarter with a We have two plays
(03:01):
from that game because the other one from Treel Furman
Sports Gambling podcast Network, who was on with us last night.
He gave out the under on Hawk's points one nineteen
and a half. That's gonna be sweaty, gonna need a
real defensive stand in the fourth quarter by the Bucks,
but so far consistent offense from Atlanta in this one.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
Yeah, we're really gonna need these two teams to just
kind of turn this into like a grind fest in
the fourth quarter and really just take some clock down
and yeah, and hopefully Milwaukee pulls away next hour.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
We're gonna do a little bit of everything. I mean,
I guess that's not true. It'll be mostly football and
a little bit of golf. We're gonna have Taylor Kyle's
CLNS will hop on with us, and he was out
at the Combine Indianapolis. Get his reflections from a Patriots
perspective on all the news and notes from there. I know,
multiple articles and podcasts and interviews and all of that
have been written, recorded, done, and we'll find out from
(03:55):
Taylor what he makes of just the celt the Celtics,
the Patriots. We hit on this a little bit last night.
But the desperation for talent, right which to be expected.
You know, anyone with the pulse, if you can be
an upgrade over what we have we being the Patriots,
then you know, hey, we're interested and typically and that's
basically everywhere, by the way, aside from essentially two guys
(04:19):
Drake May, Christian Gonzales, and you hope Gonzales can you know,
stay on the field for an entire year. But what
we have here from the skill position standpoint rumblings? You know,
could they trade for t Higgins, who's franchise tagged by Cincinnati.
Could they target Chris Godwin, who I still think is
going to go back on a one year prove a
deal when he comes back from his injury with Tampa Bay.
(04:40):
Then you Matthew Berry, He's not a newsbreaker. He's not
a newsbreaker, but he is certainly well connected. AJ Brown
as ties going back to Tennessee with Mike Vrabel, I
don't necessarily know why Philadelphia, on the heels of winning
a Super Bowl would be looking to move him. They did,
just by the way, reward Saquon Barkley with a nice,
(05:03):
hefty paid day. So somewhere Le'Veon Bell smiles. The running
backs are back forty million dollars for him. But yeah,
I mean, what what chances we'll find out from Taylor
as well? What how would you handicap this one? They
never mind coming to the Patriots, AJ Brown just moving period.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Well, there was those like Brendan Graham, let something slip
during the season, right, that there might have been something
a little off there with AJ and its teammates. I mean,
obviously winning cures all and they won the Super Bowl,
so maybe that, you know, for now, they put a
lid on that. And he's not disgruntled. But this was
the guy we saw reading self help books on the
sideline at one point during the playoff? Was it the
(05:39):
playoffs at the end of the regular season. I can't
even remember at this point those playoffs. Yeah, it was
the playoffs. Yeah, didn't eat like AJ packers, right, wildcard game?
It was the wildcard game against Screen Bay. Okay, that's right.
And then at one point didn't They asked AJ Brown
what was wrong with the Eagles passing game? And he
said the passing well, yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
I mean there's no question he bitched about not getting
the ball.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
At this point, been there and obviously, I mean, if
he comes to New England, he's going to be getting
the ball because he is the guy, and like that's
without a doubt. But I love this. Him and Mike
Rabel have have kissing, kissed and made up since they
had a little you know, falling out there. I guess
in Nashville and Tennessee. I would this would be playing
like this would be an absolute Grand Slam home run
(06:19):
if the Patriots pulled this off. I don't want to
give up the fourth overall pick for him, but you
do have to give to get Could you give a
couple of second round picks? Would Philly take that? I
think this would be the preferred option to any other
of the receivers that they've been linked to or rumored
or that have been rumored.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Look, I among many was hoping that the Patriots would
target AJ Brown when he was dealt to Philly a
couple of years ago. Yep, you know that that would
it would have been worth the compensation that he kind
of Dan Well, that's a whole other thing. I mean
that that, you know, just to really stand back to
Harry and all of those guys that that Bill Belichick
(06:57):
passed over in that draft depot, and Metcalf and the
list goes on. But here's what Matthew Berry wrote. It's
a quick little hitter in his NBC Sports article to
the point about a shallow wide receiver market. I've heard
the Patriots will all caps do whatever they can do
get a real quote wide receiver one for Drake May
and the new coaching staff. I heard they're all knocking.
(07:17):
They're knocking on all doors seeing what they can possibly
trade for. One person told me they heard the Patriots
called Philly asking if AJ Brown was available. Shrug emoji
on if that's true or what Philly's answer was. But
this much seems certain. New England will aggressively try to
upgrade its wide receiver room this off season. Now Here
is what I will say about that. We know that,
(07:41):
we all know that, we are well aware that that
is what the Patriots want to do. I don't know
if there are books out there other you know, offshore
and that type of thing, but I don't know if
they're mainstream books, Vegas at your fingertips, all the all
these you know books that we're familiar without. Obviously the DraftKings,
FanDuel Caesars, MGM and beyond. If anyone yet has any
(08:06):
more than just Super Bowl odds for next year, for instance,
win total, to win a division, make the playoffs, anything
like that, I don't think there's much out there. But
if you can find something on the Patriots with the
belief that they are going to go out and make
a splash, make some noise, be it in free agency,
in the draft, trade for a guy of AJ Brown's caliber,
(08:28):
somehow reload and this is a multiple years reload obviously
that they are due for to give Drake May some
true weapons. Then by all means, go and invest, because
if you can find a number, you will get value
on it now versus what it would be after those moves.
I think get have a hard time finding the number.
But that's a whole other situation. So we'll do football
(08:51):
with Kyle's We will do so with Brady Cannon. A
little less about the Patriots. With Brady from Sports Grid,
a little more on just some of what has gone
on this week between again Matthew Stafford back with LA.
Could Cooper Cup potentially find his way back there, that's
now circulating a little bit because I'm not sure he's
necessarily got a great market obviously, the the buzzom buddies,
(09:15):
DeVante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are free agents now. Deebo
Samuel mentioned him before a Washington commander at this point,
so a lot of stuff is on the table in
the world of the NFL. We'll hit on that with Brady.
Keep him around for a couple segments. He's a big,
big golf guy. Get into the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which
we'll get going on Thursday. Scotti Scheffler, I believe is
(09:40):
it time?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (09:43):
And I think, if I'm not mistaken, Brian, you would
know this better than me. But I feel like I
read this earlier twenty million dollar perse to the winner
on this one.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah, it's an elevated event, so not in one of
these twenty million dollars purses. And Zamer Shothley is making
his return this week as well.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
So definitely some things to hit on there and bankroll
repairs at the end of the hour, next hour, next,
the final hour of the program, Ryan Kramer han't had
him on a little while from CNS will or from SGPN,
pardon me all these acronym outlets Sports Gambling Podcast Network
talks from college basketball with him and build out a
(10:19):
people's parlay maybe even a people's parlay here in the
opening hour with Danny Burke to sweat out during the
show as well, so it's all on the table as
well as now that we actually have a multitude of
games later on tonight between the leagues that are in action,
college hoops, Pro hoops, NHL. We can do a little
state your case, Brian, Dan and I will each give
you a play that we really like. See if we
(10:41):
can talk the others into making it show official. But
we could have a bevy of picks. But one area
I just do want to hit on quickly before we
hit the brake. And it's extraordinarily early, but I am
personally on the wrong side of it. As it stands
right now, Auburn is getting waxed the moment out of
the gate by Texas aying.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
You really took Auburn tonight.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
I took Auburn. I didn't everybody, and I know, I know,
and it was I read some.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
I even boosted A and M and on Fandel. I'm
hoping to really plus five and a half. So I'm
hoping that comes through.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Look, we can middle because I just have them involved
in a money line situation. I didn't take the four
and a half, you know, I I there were I
was torn on this one.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
I know.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
We had Wes Reynolds on last night. He said he
was taking A and M. A lot of people like
you said, were on A and M simply because of
the whole desperation to win angle, uh more than anything else.
And I was chatting with Joe Ranieri Sports Gritten wager
talk and here's here's something that he texted me earlier
(11:48):
that I feel like I was already leaning this way.
I needed, you know, just I needed that push and
he kind of not that he knew this, but he
kind of gave me that push. I just said, I
no leading the witness. He said, what do you think
of Auburn A and M tonight? He said, I think
it's hilarious how many people are backing A and M
because they quote have to win. A and M doesn't
(12:09):
have the offense to win this game. I think Auburn
wins and covers. A and M is three and seven
against the spread, last ten games, three and five against
the spread at home. Can't trust them to do enough
to win it and cover this game?
Speaker 6 (12:22):
Oh yeah, no, I completely agree. And I'm someone that
I've had A and M tickets I think each the
last three games, and obviously they've gone up in flames.
So I was given a one more shot here tonight.
It was a best bet for my RHYBM model. And
then just confirmation bias between Greg Peterson's line. The SGPN
guys were pretty much across the board on it. Later,
I saw Albert Win tweets out his free play of the.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Day as Texas A play the day was that, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
So yeah, that was yeah. That's why I was on
A and M there at plus five and a half
and FanDuel had that thirty percent boost as well, So
that's what I did. There is one other game in
college basketball late night that I'm fascinated by. I do
not have a play either side on this one. I'm
just really interested to see how this is going to
play play out, and that's the Battle of Arizona Part
two tonight in Arizona and Arizona State. He spread yeah
(13:07):
eighteen and a half here. So if you remember a
month ago when these two teams met at Arizona State
in Tempe, Bobby Hurley pulled the team off the floor
with thirty seconds left. They didn't do the postgame handshake
because things got heated here. There was technical fouls. Caleb
b Love I think got head butted or head butted someone,
so just to like de escalate things at the end
of that game, Hurley sent his team to the locker room.
(13:29):
He had to bring them back on the court, if
you remember that, because they needed to be on the
court for some reason to run off the final nine
seconds according to the refs. So fascinated to see how
this one's going to play out. And it looks like
the community is totally split here on this one as well,
when you look around and see how people have this
one handicapped. My model's got it as Arizona State should
(13:49):
be is a best bet at plus eighteen and a half.
It's got the line closer to fifteen and a half
or sixteen. But I'm staying away personally just because Arizona
State's been horrible lately. I think they've lost like nine
to ten.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
We will touch on that some more a little bit later,
even maybe in the state your case, a portion of
the show later on this hour when we come back
Pro Hoops, NBA, Danny Burke, Odd Chopper, and Stochastic. On
the other side, if.
Speaker 7 (14:15):
There are games to be played.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
There are bets to be made.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
I'll bet you twenty bucks. I can get you gambled
before the end of the days. No way, I'll give
be three.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
To one, eyes five to one.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Here get ahead of line movement, find in game value
and hear the latest insights from your favorite industry experts.
This is my gambling.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
If I win, we all win.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Tell your smart speaker to play that Gambler with Adam
Kaufman on WRKO on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
We are back the Gambler with Adam Kaufman here on WRKO.
Meant to mention earlier and got so caught up in
everything else that is happening in the wide world of
sports and gambling and whatnot to mention how we did
in the month of February. We could touch on that
a little bit later on when we've got some time.
Give you the positive updates because they were. It was
(15:11):
a nice month for the show, which is a good thing.
Let you know how we tracked and how we're doing
to start off the month of March obviously as well.
But a lot of football for the next little bit here,
and it begins with our friend Taylor Kyles, who was
part of the CLNS group Patriots beat writer and analyst.
He is on Twitter at t Kyle's thirty nine. Fresh
(15:32):
off the combine in Indianapolis and now just entrenched in
all things rumor season with the draft next month started
the new League year, eight days away, free agency, trades,
all of it on the horizon for the Patriots. Taylor,
how are you?
Speaker 7 (15:50):
I'm trying to catch up on sleep. It feels like
the news cycle never stops this time of year.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
But at least it's exciting. At least we're going in
a positive direction. So I'm doing pretty well too. Well.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Let's talk more about that positive direction, because that's what
fans want to hear, obviously, And there's a lot of noise,
you know, whether it's could the Patriots trade for t Higgins,
would they pursue Chris Godwin? AJ Brown now has been
floated out by a certainly well connected person in the
football world, though not known as a newsbreaker, more of
(16:20):
a fantasy and betting guy, and that is Matthew Berry.
So it just boils down to we all know the
Patriots are hard after talent, especially in terms of giving
Drake May weapons. So what's the most likely scenario when
we're looking at this team on the field in week one?
Speaker 7 (16:41):
Well, just as a reminder, week one is a ways away,
a lot and change between now and then, So just
from where we're standing right now, it seems like Chris
Godwin's going to be the guy who they're going to
have the easiest time getting. Wasn't franchise tag today, even
though they're with some suspicion over whether or not Tampa
Bay would actually let him go. Of course, is coming
off of dislocated I believe it was angle, So I mean,
(17:04):
that's a pretty serious injury. So you're gonna have to
see with the timeline how he really is able to
bounce back to that. But twenty eight years old, the
kind of guy you won that wide receiver room, who's
done it before, has won Super Bowls, has the connection
with Tom Brady, knows how to be a professional. That's
the kind of presence you want in what is right
now a very young wide receiver room.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
So that seems the most likely.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Since he's going to be on the market and the
Patriots can pay whatever they want and he passes the medicals,
I think he can kind of slide him into that
Julian Edelman role for the Patriots. We've seen how he
can kind of manage two slot receivers the way he
did with ed A Mondola. Maybe we see that kind
of thing with Godwin and pomp. But then there's also
the trade avenue like you mentioned, Tehigan was tagged and
of course they're trying to work out a deal, but
(17:45):
he could still be traded if things fall through. You know,
there's murmurs about Brandon iu kJ Brown. I mean, the
Patriots are going to be aggressive, so I don't think
there's really a name out DK Metcalf let me throw
that one out there as well.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
That's been reported.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
So, I mean, Mike Rabel's very clear he doesn't want
Drake May to have to carry the offense. He wants
guys who can make contested catches, get yards after the catch,
create explosives on their own.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
So you know, believe the reports.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
It's just going to be interesting who's actually available and
at what price.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
So obviously Patriots need a wide receiver, as you guys
were just talking about, it's item one one A or
one B here. I think it's with that and then
offensive line specifically at left tackle Taylor Ronnie Stanley I
think would be a grand Slam home run if he
does make it in the market next week. What have
you heard when it comes to the line where the
pat's looking, are they trying to add a couple of vets?
(18:35):
Maybe they go the rookie Road, which which way do
you think they're going to lean here when it comes
to the offensive tackle position.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
Yeah, Mike Verbel and the Patriots have not been shy.
They want to improve in the trenches. They brought up
the Super Bowl and we will said, hey, you know,
we saw it in the Super Bowl. But that's always
been how football is. Mike Verbel brought it up. You
have to be able to control the game on the
line of scrimmage. And of course what tackle has just been,
you know, an up and down roller coaster for a
year now because the Patriots haven't properly invested in it. Now,
(19:03):
it looks like obviously Ronnie Stanley's at the top of
their list, he falls through maybe in Camp Robinson. He's
a guy who's still playing some pretty good football later.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
In his career. More of a bridge.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
Both he and Ronnie Stanley are getting up there, so
you don't want them here for too long. But Cam
Robinson isn't quite at the same level. But he's worked
with Doug Maron, the Patriots offensive line coach, so there's
a connection. They've also been connected to Dan Moore, another
Steelers sackle. He's no Chukul mulkor for you know, you'd
hope this time around them they get some better intel
into the person. But I've heard great things about Dan Moore.
(19:36):
The thing is, he's just not the kind of guy
you really want to be any sort of long term plan.
Even this year, he'd be very much a band aid.
So I do think they're going to try to sign
at least one of these free agent veterans because you
need somebody you like to say, you least free agency
saying hey, if we had to play Dan tomorrow, who
would we have out there right now? With Darien, Well,
I don't think he's going to get it done, so
(19:57):
I wouldn't be surprised that they addressed in the draft
as well. We'll just have to see what kind of
player they can get in free agency. I think that
determines where they end up prioritizing tackle in the draft.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
Well, what you guys were just talking about, and Dan
knows this, It's the drum that I've been beating here
of late, is just the importance of what happens in
the trenches and how we can as fans and certainly
as betters, get sort of distracted by the glitz and
glam of the skill position. I mean, I will readily
admit I would love to see Travis Hunter fall to
(20:28):
the Patriots at four and they select him, and just
the you know, that gadget player coming in and whether
he's a weapon for May or a you know, playing
opposite Gonzales in the secondary. I just know watching that
dude in college and seeing him when the heisman that
he can come in and be helpful. But by the
same token, I understand the importance of trying to one
(20:50):
protect May on one side or on the other side,
get to the quarterback, which is the only way that
we have seen Patrick Mahomes lose Super Bowls in his
young career here. So when it comes to the draft,
you know, if Shader Sanders is falling and the Raiders
really want their quarterback, do you see the Patriots trading
down to Vegas potentially or are they going to be
hard pressed to want to pick it for and maybe
(21:12):
go after that talent If Hunter is still sitting.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
There, I think Travis Hunter and if outdu o'carter were
to fall, I think those are the only two players
where if you're sitting at four, you're saying we cannot move.
Maybe we entertain some offers and see if someone's going
to throw a bag at us. But those are the
true blue chip potential. I don't want to say generation,
that's not really fair, but those are the blue ship
talent in this draft. After them, there is a pretty
(21:37):
significant drop off. It feels like everybody around that range
that could get selected has some type of pretty significant
question mark. Whether it's they're measurable it's like a Lil Campbell,
or whether it's production or size like the Michel Williams,
like a Jalen Walker. You know, there's no one that
you really feel comfortable picking and saying for sure that
guy's going to be a home run and he's got
(21:58):
a high ceiling, which is what you want in the
top five. So if they're at four, I think they're
listening to offers because I think it's more important to
prioritize getting more players that you can have to create
a young core for this team than it is to
pick a player. Because again, outside Travis Hunter, who I
think is more than the catget guy, I think he's
a legit starting caliber wide receiver. He didn't even really
(22:19):
do a lot of wide receiver meetings or anything in
college and was still productive. But if it's not him
or Abdul Carter, no one really in the draft or
you saying, yes, this guy immediately changes our football team,
I think you really need to go with more volume
for Rosser with this many holes.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
So defensive line obviously also a big need here. It
seems like Milton Williams that name is starting to really
come up more and more frequently here as we get
closer to free agency next week. Is that what you're
sensing to Absolutely?
Speaker 7 (22:48):
And that's to be really exciting because even though Milton
Williams broke out this year, I was hearing from people
in Philly that he was a guy who was really
starting to come on as early as like two seasons
ago when he played the Patriots in the season open
are against City So and those guys, he was kind
of reckon aviage. So he is the premier defensive lineman
on the market. You don't really get guys like him
(23:08):
that reach for agency. But the Eagles are so stacked
on their defensive line they've already got his replacement in house.
So if he's available, the Patriots want to get better
in the trenches, that's a pretty straight path to get there,
I'd assume that they're going to be one of, if
not the high as bidder for his services.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
As we get closer to free agency. Obviously it's already
kind of trade season. We've seen guys move, including Deebo Samuel,
who Patriots could have obtained if they wanted to for
a fifth and had that salary cap space to absorb him.
They just obviously chose not to even be in on him,
according to reports. But you know, trade season is here,
and with the draft not far away and being in
(23:47):
that war room and all of that, are you do
you feel like you're learning anything about the power dichomy
in Foxborough and whether in fact Vrabel has that final
say versus Elliot Wolf, and just whether this all shakes
down comfortably.
Speaker 7 (24:04):
So contractually, yes, Ellie Wolf has finals say. He is
the executive vice president of Player of Personnel, so all
that would lead you to believe, yes, he's the final
decision maker. But when Mike Brabel was asked about it,
he said, I wouldn't have taken this job if I
wasn't comfortable with my say. Ellie Will essentially said as
much that yeah, it's my call, but you know, with
(24:24):
the shared vision, and the shared vision.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Is Mike Rabels.
Speaker 7 (24:28):
He's the only guy with true job security in this building.
Of course, if things go bottom up, who knows. As
we saw with you, Rod Mayo doesn't seem like that's
the case. So I don't really think there's any question
that I think Rabel values Ellie Wolf's input the way
he does Ryan Cowden. But I do think that Rabel
is the one who has a vision for his team.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Ellie Will's going to be the.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
Guy that says, oh, that's what you want, let me
go and find the guys that fit your IP and
your vision.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
So, Taylor, I know you were out there in Indy
last week. Was there anything that you heard that you're
able to share with us and the listeners that you
were like, huh okay, that's interest. I wasn't thinking that
the Pats might be going down that road.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
Honestly, I gotta say, nothing too surprising, because as bad
as this team is, it's pretty obvious where the holes lie.
If anything, I think the fact that every team are
legit everywhere, but really, when you have that many holes,
the premium positions are really where the kind of neon
signs are at. But if there's anything people really seeing
the Patriots as a team that should be taken seriously.
(25:26):
With Mike Rabel, with Drake May, you weren't really sure
because you know, after last season, you don't want to
deal in absolutes, of course, because anything can happen.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
But Mike Rabel's got a track wrecker.
Speaker 7 (25:36):
Drake May is one of the more respected young quarterbacks
in the league. I think that as long as this
team handles the resources and you know, allocates them properly,
this is going to be a team that experiences the
Commander's s kind of turnaround.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
It's gonna take some looks, but I do think that.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
The Patriots I won't again a team once again a
team that can be taken seriously.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
Taylor, before we let you go, you know, we you
never know what's what's real from you know, GMS and
other team personnel guys around the league versus sort of
the content train, right, But certainly some of your brethren
on the beat and people out there in Indianapolis coming
back saying that their main takeaway is that, boy, oh boy,
(26:19):
is there a lot of love around the league for
Drake May and that this guy, you know, not right now,
but top five, top seven, whatever, you know, classification, you
want to put him in quarterback in the league kind
of ceiling, and you know the Patriots got one. Do
you do you hear similar? Do you agree with all that?
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I hear similar, and I absolutely agree.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
It was disappointing the way Drake's season ended, of course,
because you know, wasn't really able to play the.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Last game and then it seemed like he got digged
up in the second to last game.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
But everything before that, you saw a lot more progression
than you were.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Expecting as early as it came.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
And I mean you saw the mobility, the ability to
extend plays and played with instructure, which I thought was
the most impressive part. So now with the guy like Rabel,
who can help him, you know, increase his football IQ
A situational awareness. I really do think this guy's a
limit for this kid. And it seems like that's a
pretty common sentiments.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
All right.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Taylor Kyles once again c lns on Twitter at T
Kyle's thirty nine. Taylor, great to have you back on
with us. Obviously, it's a nice reminder that football. I
was gonna say, football's you know, coming, It's not far away.
Football is year round, man, we all know it. Hopefully
you get some semblance of a break at some point
here this summer before the or when the summer comes,
(27:35):
before the you know, real grit and grind of the
season gets underway.
Speaker 7 (27:40):
Absolutely, but it's fun, man, best job in the world.
I'm just excited and thank you for having me back
on guys.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
Absolutely, we'll keep the football conversation going, look at a
more national level outside of the Patriots with Brady Cannon
from sports Grid. When we come back, let's keep talking
football and do so with my weekend partner in crime
over on sports Grid, Brady Cannon. He is on Twitter
(28:07):
at Las Vegas Golfer. We're gonna hang on to Brady
for a couple of segments. Get some Arnold Palmer Invitational
thoughts as well in the next segment. But football first, Brady,
how are you?
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I'm great, guys, going to be back with you. And yeah,
it's never the offseason for football anymore, is it?
Speaker 5 (28:24):
No, it really isn't. Today Trey Era was franchise tag
deadline day, and what's interesting is only two guys were tagged.
That's it a significant drop. There were nine that earned
the franchise tag. Or transition tag designations last year, seventeen
(28:45):
over the last two years, just the two T Higgins
from the Bengals and Trey Smith, the right guard for
the Chiefs. So for t Higgins, this is now a
nice bump, dude. It's gonna make more than twenty six
million dollars and obviously has another opportunity to, you know,
if they don't reach a long term agreement, hit the
(29:06):
offseason next year as a premier free agent, and this
is going to set up a huge payday down the
line for Jamar Chase as well. But one thing that
was interesting, Brady, and no surprise at all, but you know,
no tag for Sam Darnold. You know that dude, you know,
just his his time in Minnesota seemingly imploded over his
(29:28):
final two starts with that team, the you know, game
against Detroit with the number one seed in first round
by on the line, then that playoff game in which
the Vikings got absolutely waxed. But there are reports that
he could still, albeit at any significantly reduced rate, wind
up back with Minnesota. What should that team do knowing
(29:48):
that even a guy like Aaron Rodgers is out there
who could complete the circle for the full Brett Farv experience.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Well, they probably just saved themselves some money, because you know,
Donald has to be real stick with himself too. He
was on a trajectory where he was going to be
able to, you know, to negotiate for a lot of money.
He was going to certainly cash in off of the
season that he had, but then it all went south
in a hurry, and boy, it couldn't have gone much
(30:17):
worse the way it did the last couple of games
that your reference. So I think they have a guy
that obviously won a lot of games for them and
probably you know, it's not like that's going to necessarily
go away. I still think he's very capable of that.
Will he repeat everything that he did to the level
that he did this last season, I'm not so sure.
(30:38):
But he was pretty darn good. And now if they
can resign him at a discount, you know, that's kind
of a win win for the Vikings. I don't think
a franchise tag was the right move there at all,
because I wouldn't think he would even garner that type
of money in the free market. So yeah, I mean,
it could be a good thing for all parties concerned here.
(30:59):
I think what we learned about Sam Darnold was that
he really, you know, has had kind of a rebirth
to his career. We saw it a little bit at
the tail end of his time with Carolina. He did
okay as a backup with San Francisco, and then he
kind of found the perfect landing spot with Kevin O'Connell
in Minnesota. So, you know, if I was Darnald, I
(31:20):
wouldn't try and push my luck. I'd figure I have
a good I have a pretty good thing going here,
and I'll take you know, I'll take a decent offer
that I imagine they're abound to offer.
Speaker 6 (31:31):
Brady, have you been paying attention to the NFL draft
odds here as of late? The team to pick first
overall has been really fascinating because it's moved so much
here in the past few days. A couple days ago,
the Tennessee Titans, who do own the first overall pick,
we're like minus two seventy five on DraftKings to make
that pick first overall. Now they're all the way down
(31:51):
to minus one tozh five, tied with the Giants. So
do you bet the draft? I mean, would you jump
in on Tennessee now that you're getting this almost even money.
How do you look at this at this market?
Speaker 2 (32:04):
That's really interesting. I have not seen that particular market.
I've been paying attention to the number one you know
selection overall in the draft, and you know, cam Ward
of course is the favorite there and you would think
that would kind of be tied to Tennessee. I've also seen,
you know, the guy out of Penn State and now
(32:25):
he came down with the injuries, you know, to his
feet and what have you. I don't know if that's
completely off the board that he's going to go number one,
Abduall Carter. I'm talking about he's now, you know, a
little better than two to one to go number one.
So you know, maybe I think in the eyes of
the ods makers, that makes cam Ward a bigger favorite.
(32:47):
But I mean, you know, don't don't you figure that
that's what Tennessee. I mean, Tennessee needs a lot of things.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
We know that.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
But will Levis didn't work out, Mason Rudolph has not
worked out. You know, Malik Willis is now no longer there.
I mean, you would think they have to go quarterback.
And if that's the case, I would think they have
to go you know number one, but you know, with
the number of different players that they need and positions
(33:16):
that they need, maybe they're figuring they trade back, you know,
they grab a couple of draft picks. We all know
it's not a real quarterback heavy draft, so maybe they're
just going to kind of pass on the quarterback. Let
Levice have another shot and try and pick up maybe
you know, three or four players for the price of one.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
To that point, Brady does a guy like Aaron Rodgers,
maybe even Sam Donald. Do some of these guys sit
for a while, Like normally free agency opens, you got
a big name and I you know, Donald's not obviously
he doesn't have this great reputation, but he probably is
the best quarterback available in terms of you know, age
and talent and all of that, and he'll be motivated
(33:56):
looking to cash in versus a guy like Rogers, a
former MVP and champ and future Hall of Famer and
all that. But we know he's at the end and
it went poorly during his time with the Jets. Do
these guys sit as you know, the draft plays itself
out first and teams that are QB hungry look to
see exactly where they stand, and so you know, Rogers
(34:17):
maybe doesn't find a home for the next at least
few months, and maybe by association, neither does DeVante Adams.
If they're a package deals, a lot of people suspect.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Yeah, I'm not so sure. You know, I was mentioning
it earlier today. I think that would be a detriment
to Adams to be tied into a package deal. I
think Adams is probably more valuable than Rogers from what
I've seen. Sure, you know, obviously Rodgers is older. I'm
not so sure he has anything left in the tank.
(34:52):
He does pop possibly have very little left in the tank.
You know. Now the Giants are the favorite to sign
Aaron Rodgers, and and that's another team that does not
have a good offensive line. I mean, he has to
go somewhere where the offensive line can protect him. That
was probably the biggest problem with the Jets. It was
obviously a problem in the first year when he didn't
(35:13):
even make it through a few plays, but it wasn't
that much better this year. It seemed like he was
rushed all the time. And you know that that was
certainly a problem with the Jets. Figuring Rogers was just
going to be able to come in there and you know,
operate the way he had in the past without a
whole lot of protection. I think that's first and foremost.
You gotta he should wait if that's the case, and
(35:35):
go to a team that has, you know, a better
offensive line. But Adams I think, you know, probably still
has a lot of teams or more teams anyway, that
are interested in taking him on, but not necessarily as
a package deal with Aaron Rodgers. You know, I read
earlier today that the Packers are are the favorite to
you know, reunite with Devonte Adams, and I could understand
(35:59):
that that that makes some sense to me, but certainly
they're not going to bring back Aaron Rodgers, right, So yeah,
I think that one's very confusing. DeVante Adams is going
to find a home probably pretty soon. But what you
say about Rogers, yeah, it might be after the draft.
You know, Kirk Cousins was signed, you know, kind of
(36:19):
right before the draft, and then they went and drafted
Pennix Junior. That was you know, that took everyone by surprise.
I don't know how it's going to unfold for Rogers,
but you know, the fact that the Giants are interested
or the favorite to do This kind of baffles me.
And maybe they're a little bit like the Titans, where
(36:39):
they're going to say, Okay, we're going to take a
little bit of a pass on this season. We got
to get somebody in here. You know. Let's let's not
go get one of these quarterbacks that we aren't really
thrilled with this class. Let's let's build in other areas
of need because we have a lot of them. The
one issue there, though, is this could be, you know,
a maker season for Brian Dable. I mean, I think
(37:02):
he's already on the hot seat and he may not
have enough luxury or time to kind of let another
year go before he dives all in and gets a quarterback.
So that one's confusing to me. Guys, Adams is going
to find something, I'm sure, but the Rogers situation, I
don't know.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
So Deebo Samuel was the first wide receiver Domino to
fall this offseason. He gets traded to Washington over the weekend,
and that's had a lot of people running to the
MVP market ready for Jaden Daniels, who is sitting at
plus seven point fifty on DraftKings right now. He's tied
with Patrick Mahomes in the regular season MVP market is
(37:42):
So that's Scot him tied for fourth best odds right now,
behind Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen Burrow, and then he's tied
with Mahomes. Are you looking at a Daniel's MVP ticket
or are you still waiting to see how things play
out here?
Speaker 2 (37:54):
You know that's typically not an award I bet that often.
I honestly can't recall if I've ever bet it Dan,
and I definitely don't want to bet it, you know,
this early, because I mean, not only do we have
all of this time prior to the regular season when
there could be injuries in training camp, preseason, what have you,
(38:17):
and then you get, you know, a mid season injury.
I mean, that's a tough one for me. If I
was going to bet an MVP Award winner, I'd probably
want to do it about mid season or so. It
makes a lot of sense. I think it's a great
weapon for Daniels in that offensive system for Cliff Kingsbury.
I think they got a nice get there. And I'm
(38:38):
a little surprised that the Niners only got a fifth
round draft choice in return. I would have thought maybe
a third certainly a fourth. I thought they got the
short end of the stick there with a fifth. But
Debo has been around a little bit and he's suffered
some injuries here and there. But I do think it's
a nice boost, and I think it's good for Debo.
I think a little change of scenery will be good,
(38:59):
a little different offensive scheme. I think it'll work well
on the forty nine ers side. I'm not so sure
they don't try and trade a YUK. If I were
San Francisco, I might try and get rid of some
pieces and collect some draft capital and just go all
out into a rebuild mode. I'd probably try and sign
(39:19):
dra Greenlaw, keep Fred Warner around. I'd sign brock Party,
just keep a few integral parts, but go ahead and
feel free to get rid of some pieces as well,
and see if you can get some more draft choices
and kind of, you know, start from scratch a little bit.
You got to rework that offensive line. Trent Williams is
getting old. So if I were the Niners, I would
(39:42):
be kind of looking towards three years from now to
get back to the Super Bowl and not necessarily try
and do it next year. I know it's hard to
swallow that type of mentality, but I think they are
really better suited for a bit of a rebuild.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
Here Brady Cannon once again from sports Grid, talking through
some NFL offseason movement of late over the last week
here with us. Didn't even get to Matt Stafford's return
to the Rams and what's Cooper Cupp's future and all
of that. But we are gonna break when we come back, Brady,
near and dear to your heart. Golf, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
(40:16):
It begins a couple of days from now. We'll get
your favorite plays and tell people how they should be
betting this event. Stay with us. Back with Brady Cannon
from sports Grid. Looking at now the Arnold Palmer Invitational,
PGA Tours next signature event and elevated event, twenty million
(40:38):
dollars per Scottie Scheffler, to no surprise, the heavy favorite
in this one plus three twenty the next best Rory
McElroy is. I look at FanDuel plus seven fifty, and
then you start to get into the you know, sixteen
to one, oh, Bear Shoffley, eighteen to one, twenty to one,
and beyond all of that, as we know, I mean,
(41:01):
we know what he's accomplished and how amazing he was
last year. He's won at bay Hill two out of
the last three years. McElroy is a guy near the
top of the board as well. He won in twenty eighteen,
runner up two years ago. Eight finishes of thirteenth or
better in ten career starts at Bayhill. So all due
respect to you know, Joe high Smith, Brady, it starts
(41:23):
with these guys, as we know. Any allure to you
near the top of the board.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Well, you know, I was speaking earlier today about a
parlay that I understand can be utilized on fan duel
where you take Scotty Scheffler for a top ten finish
and pair it with Rory McElroy for a top twenty
finish and the odds come to minus one twenty four.
(41:53):
I thought that was a pretty darn good bet. I
mean for McElroy to finish, there's only seventy two players
in this field. You know, this is half the size
of a normal tournament. Being a signature event, the top
fifty and ties will make the cut. There is a
thirty six sole cut, so you know, you figure Scheffler
and McElroy will make the weekend and then they've only
(42:14):
got to finish better than you know, thirty or forty people.
I would think that's a pretty darn good bet involving
those two guys. But I did not get on Scheffler
or McElroy for an outright win. I actually thought the
price on Scheffler was a little short. You know, it
looks like he's still trying to find a little bit
(42:34):
of his zone, if you will. That we've seen him
in the last couple of seasons. You know, he had
the hand injury and didn't get started until a few
weeks ago at Pebble Beach, made a nice run at
Torrey Pines. But I'm just not sold that he's one
hundred percent back yet, and it may come at a
course like you say, where he's already won twice before.
(42:54):
Rory's had tremendous success here as well. I'd probably rather
take him at nearly twice the price. But the shortest
shot that I landed on Adam was justin Thomas at
twenty five to one. Scotty Schffler is a great example
of the connection between Bayhill, the course they play here
(43:15):
for the Arnold Palmer in Orlando, Bayhill and TPC Scottsdale
where they play the Phoenix Open. Scotty Scheffler's won both
tournaments twice and both courses really asked the player to
do a lot of the same things, ball striking primarily
as the biggest need, work off the tee, that type
(43:35):
of thing, and Justin Thomas has had tremendous success at Scottsdale.
Another course that correlates to Bayhill would be Quail Hollow,
where Thomas has won the PGA Championship. He's got three
top ten finishes this year and comes in off of
two straight top ten finishes. So he was the one.
(43:58):
Xander Schoffley doesn't make sense to me. Know, this is
his first week back on tour since way back in
January to open the season in Maui. You know, he's
been nursing a rib injury. Obert just won a few
weeks ago at Tory Pines. Morikawa has not been great
here at this course in the past, and so Thomas
was the one that made the most sense to me,
(44:19):
and I thought had a pretty nice price.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
It's Bratty.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
I'm going through your article right now on golf dot Com,
and I see you got another guy who is red
hot right now as an outright taken in this one.
Maverick McNeely three top ten finishes this season, You think
he can finally get to the winner circle this week.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Yeah, you know. I it's like he's had a kind
of a part two of his career. What we always
expected out of this kid was curtailed by injury kind
of midway through his career, and now he has reappeared,
so to speak, and got that win in November, and
that's really just been a springboard for him. I mean,
(44:55):
against a signature status event with you know, everybody, you know,
all the stars there, you know, trying to trying to
take him down and just barely got clipped at the
end by Oldberg on an extremely difficult golf course, Tory Pines.
That kind of you know, And I also liked that
he got that close and he was about to go
(45:15):
play in Mexico the next week and then he just
said hold on and he and he withdrew And so
he's taken a couple of weeks off here and I
kind of like that that he's just kind of been
able to soak that in what he was able to
nearly do at Tory Pines against that type of competition.
I think that gives him a lot of confidence, and
I think this guy's going to continue to win more
(45:36):
golf tournaments. He's got that type of talent and he
hasn't had tremendous success here at this golf course in
the past. But again a lot of his results are
tarnished by you know, going through a number of injuries.
The stats look really good. He's one of the best
putters in the world. He ranked seventh in this field
for strokes gain putting on Bermuda grass. So yeah, and
(45:59):
a nice you see number two Dan. You know, you
can probably find him anywhere in the neighborhood of fifty
to sixty to one. So he was a guy that
I think off of that runner up finish at Tory
Pines and what I think the future holds for him
specifically this season, I think he's ripe to get another
win sometime soon.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
In the middle of the pack when it comes to,
you know, trying to build out a bankroll with obviously
placement bets. You know, you mentioned obviously that parlay, which
I agree, great number for Scheffler and mcelroyd just to
you know, beat out their inferior competition, so long as
they do what they're supposed to do. But when you're
starting to look at like the top twenty market, for instance,
(46:41):
you know, there's there's a whole bunch of guys that
are between like minus one ten to plus one point fifty.
Let's say, anyone that you feel particularly good about here
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Well, the four guys that I played for an outright win,
Justin Thomas, Maverick mcneelee, and then I also played Min
Wu Lee and Matt Fitzpatrick. I played all four of
the all four of those guys for a top twenty
finish as well. Now, justin Thomas, it's a little bit
of you know, minus money there. In fact, at FanDuel,
(47:16):
he's only minus one ten, which I think is a
pretty darn good price. I paid a little bit more
than that earlier today. And then the rest of my
guys are all plus money McNeely, you know, plus one fifty,
plus one seventy something like that, and Minwu Lee and
Fitzpatrick at two to one or more, you know, top ten,
(47:40):
you're looking at Scheffler at minus two eighty. You know,
we talked about the parlay there with Macelroy. I don't
think that's an awful play at all, Adam. I mean,
I think it was just a couple of weeks ago
he was around minus four hundred to finish top ten
or something like that. You know, I don't think that's
a bad one. You've got justin to Imus at plus
(48:00):
two twenty to finish top ten. I think Tommy Fleetwood
is another good one for a top twenty at just
minus one ten. I'm showing at fan duel. Tommy Fleetwood,
I know, is a relatively popular play this week, and
I think he makes a lot of sense. He's done
well here in the past. You know, he's at a
pretty fair price of thirty to one. I think Russell
(48:23):
Henley is another guy who ought to go well. He
plays difficult golf course as well. He's plus money about
plus one thirty to finish top twenty. So you know
that's the thing. I've probably said this to you before, Adam.
When you hit an outright winner, that's where all the
glory is. You know. It's like picking a needle out
(48:43):
of a haystack. It's really hard to do, but it's
really a smart bet to take some of these guys
and lay a little bit of a price and bet
on them to finish top twenty. It's a much safer bet.
Now you want to you want to risk a little
bit more. You're certainly not getting the odds or the
return that you might, but in the long run, it's
probably a much better bet, certainly more positive vv you know,
(49:05):
not as much hold on the case of the book,
that type of thing, the outrights, that's where the fun is,
That's that's where the big sweat is on Sunday when
one of your guys is in the hunt there coming
down the stretch. But probably a smarter bet to play
these finishing position markets and don't be afraid to, you know,
lay a little juice with some minus money.
Speaker 5 (49:26):
Brady Cannon once again from sports Grid on Twitter at
Las Vegas Golf for a lot of great golf and
football talk, something that you can regularly expect from him
anytime you tune into the Sports Grid network as well.
Brady always fun man. We'll talk again real soon.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
Yeah, thanks for having me, guys.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
Absolutely, we'll step aside. Come on back with bank row repairs.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
Now back to the Gambler with Adam Kaufman on six
eighty WRTL Streaming Live on the iHeartRadio app, or tell
your smart speaker to play w RKO on iHeartRadio. It's
time for your bank roll repair powered by today's collision.
Speaker 5 (50:12):
Toc I should mention that Lebron James did not score
the first basket tonight. Didn't happen three first quarter points
for him so far, so he uh. I guess it
was an a one. Huh, it's a bucket and a
free throw or no, maybe the free throw opportunity was separate.
I think it was just just a regular, regular old bucket.
(50:33):
Luca up to fifteen points in this game. Lebron again
just sitting at three, but it's smid first and la
is ahead by five in this one on the Pelicans.
Remember we are invested in the Lakers to win this game.
We were also invested in Dalton connect, who is I
believe just checked in basically and hasn't obviously done anything
as of yet. As far as show plays, we'll go
(50:55):
through the full gambit of a gambit of them a
little bit later on. Let you know how we're doing
with everything that we are chasing. But as far as
the bank or repairs anyway, Dan's is in. Gave out
Purdue Crayton and Dayton and mine is in as well,
So that's I had the Timberwolves as well as the Cavaliers,
(51:17):
Kentucky and Memphis. So we picked up a couple of
units just on the bank roll repairs. Brian, you've got
something in the golf world. What are you thinking?
Speaker 7 (51:25):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
So I want to give this out on Tuesday, So
give people, the podcast listeners a chance to play it.
Two guys to finish inside the top forty Matt McNeely
who Brady just mentioned an minue lee. Both to finish
inside the top forty. This of course you need ball striking.
These have been two of the best ball strikers this season.
So put those guys together to make the top forty
even odds on DraftKings.
Speaker 5 (51:45):
Okay, Dan had to step away quick moment, but he
has a three legger already posted on the Action app.
The Gambler with aks are handled. That is Cincinnati, Providence
and usc All on the money line. And put those
three together plus one to eleven on bet MGM. For me,
I got a four legger. It is all hoops as well.
(52:08):
Two NBA two college in the NBA Oklahoma City a
road favorite at Memphis, hoping that nobody of importance gets
ruled out there for OKC. But I will take them
on the road, just on the money line Milwaukee. I
know it's a back to back for the Bucks, so
still feel good about this one unless like Giannis gets
ruled out or he and Dame or something like that.
(52:28):
But they're home against the Mavericks, and we know what's
going on with the Mavericks. Kyrie Irving now done for
the season. If anybody missed that, Luka Doncic told him
on his IG live to get away from that organization.
A couple others George Mason and Central Connecticut State. So
put those four together minus one O three on DraftKings
College hoops. When we come back with Ryan Gramer.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
