Humelan will join us next after headlines brought to you
by Frost Breud Cors Light Choose Chill. The Seahawks news
of the day is that they made a trade for
a run stopping linebacker. They brought in Ernest Jones, acquiring
him from the Tennessee Titans, trading out sending Tennessee Jerome Baker,
who had been starting at week sidelinebacker. In McDonald's three
to four and a fourth round draft pick to the
(01:07):
Titans for Ernest Jones. Pretty sure Jones will start next
to Tyrell Dotson on Sunday when the Bills and Seahawks
play at Loomenfield. Also does today, the Seahawks designated to
return to practice starting right tackle Abe Lucas. This will
be the first time he's practiced since January he had
winter knee surgery. He's been on the physical lee unable

to perform list all training camp in all seasons so far.
He has to twenty one day window now to practice
up to those twenty one days, after which time he
either has to be activated to the fifty three man
roster or put on injured reserve. They also activated from
injured reserve George Vann, who's the number two right tackle.
The number three right tackle Stone Forsyfe is injured with

with Hugh Millen, who joins us on the phone. Hugh,
good morning, How are you?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Good morning?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Hi guys.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
What's happening tons?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Seahawks making trades?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Getting out a linebacker that you didn't think was doing
very well against the run? You've studied the Rams a
little bit. What do you know of Ernest Jones? And
how do you think he's going to help the run defense?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Will?
Speaker 4 (03:46):
My first thought is, uh, this has to be a
Mike McDonald's decision.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Obviously Schnyder.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Is intricately involved, but I think this is more in
my mind McDonald's. He has an idea of what he
wants member he was at Baltimore. They trade and acquired
with the Bears for Rokwan Smith. Now they gave up
a second and a fifth. This is the ravens now
second of fifth and aj Klein their linebacker to get
(04:14):
Rokwan Smith. And Rokwan Smith is, you know, maybe next
to Fred Warner, the best middle linebacker in all of football.
So they they they targeted another player they made that trade.
This is this is a there's a clear point that
I that I really believe and want to make. Ernest
Jones is in his fourth year. He just cost the
(04:34):
Seahawks a starting linebacker and a and a fourth round
draft pick and a fourth round draft pick. This kid
is out of South Carolina. Every single player you draft,
there's nobody who's bust proof. You're evaluating college players and
you're saying, what is the likelihood that they're going to
be a good to great NFL player? The probability is
(04:55):
always greater than zero and less than one hundred. But
on that probability scale, when you've I had a chance
to evaluate a guy for three and a half years
at the NFL level, you cannot miss.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
You cannot miss.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
So I just look and I don't mean this in
any way, you know, in a negative sense or whatever.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I'm excited for this.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I believe that they have, you know, a guy who
understands defense in Mike McDonald. And if he's sending out
a fourth round pick, that's a pretty high pick. Now,
guy's relatively young, as I said, in his fourth year,
but he has a vision based on what he's seen
against NFL players, and he's got a vision of what
this guy can be. And so got you've got to
(05:38):
ink him in as you're starting will linebacker for another three,
four or five years, unquestionably.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
And lets you know, of a scene of the Seahawks
run defense, what do they need the most?
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Well, I just think they need physicality. I mean I
think Baker and Doddson are are better athletes. I mean Baker,
if you look at you know, you know Baker coming
out of Ohio State. I I was just looking at
his his combine stuff. You know, he was a four
five one guy, uh, Whereas Jones is a four to
seven two. And you look at their ten yard splits,
their twenty there there there, they're vertical jumps. In every way,
(06:16):
Baker was a better athlete. But when I just looked
at some tape of Tennessee's most recent game of Buffalo.
I'll just look at the coaches tape, particularly interested in
the end zone copy, just kind of see where, you know,
where his instincts are. The first thing you notice his frame,
he's he's got more sand in his pants. He's got
very well developed legs through the through the posterior chain
(06:38):
and what have you. And and he just before even
watched the first play, he just looks.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Like he would be more physical.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
And so I think you're probably sacrificing something in athleticism.
But you know, one of the things about Baker and
I you know, I made this comment a few times,
even going back to the summer in August.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
You know, I'm I'm.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Not sure his instincts are great, and you know, I
just think he's kind of slow to process. Well, I
don't think that that's that's something that that works in
Mike McDonald's system. So I have not studied enough Ernest
Jones to say, hey, look he's he definitively a faster processor.
But again, my assertion, if you if you spend a
(07:22):
fourth round pick to get this guy who's an NFL player,
not a college player. Then he has to be fit
the attributes that that McDonald wants. And you know, you
could say, well, wait a minute, wouldn't you say that
for free agency with Baker coming out of New England
or excuse me, out of Buffalo. But you know, he
(07:43):
wasn't a starter at Buffalo. You know, he played, you know,
so I think that they've had a longer time to
assess what Ernest jones uh capabilities are. But I think
I think you're going to get a more physical player
and probably a more instinctive player.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Hugh, we had you on earlier this month, I think
the first week in October, and you talked about Geno
Smith's pocket presence and you gave Hi an a plus grade.
The offensive line is still under construction. But going back
after you watch that Falcons game, what did you like
from the offense overall?
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Well, I liked how I thought the balance was the
best that we've seen. I think there's been some justified
criticism about the play selection, and I think the rundown
the neutral downs. You know, he had eleven runs fifty
three fifty three yards four point eight in the running
(08:40):
and then in these neutral downs are first and ten
or second and six or less nine passes one hundred
and seven yards eleven point nine. I like those numbers.
I think that's a good neutral down displacement. I think
that our distribution rather, I think against the forty nine ers,
they overcompensated for their lack of running, and I thought
(09:01):
that they were predictable in their running, and I think
the forty nine ers kind of keyed in on that.
So I didn't like the distribution there. So I thought
that was the best that I've seen. And then you know,
you hit some plays and you know Gino's you know,
tends to be really sharp in dome stadiums, and he
hit some big plays, and you know, and then you
(09:24):
were able to kind of salt the way the game
away in the second half. But to score seventeen points
in the first half and then and then take advantage,
you know, the complimentary football phase of it, you know,
scoring points on defense and then getting field position and
not having to make a lot of plays in the
second half. I mean, I think you love that formula.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Humel enjoining us as does every Wednesday at eleven am, Hugh,
What do you like about Josh Allen? What makes him
such a good quarterback, and many think an MVP candidate.
What's Seattle's challenge with him Sunday.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Well, I'll just say on a personal level and I'll
get to the analysis. He's in my top five quarter
favorite quarterbacks I've ever seen, and you.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Know, well ever seen.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I don't know if we have time ever seen.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Wow. I just.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Well, because it's never had a parade. They won the
AFL in sixty four and sixty five, but that was
prior to the merger and they were clearly a second
grade lead like the USFL. So the Sobbres have never
won a tie NHL title, though they've been to the
finals twice. The Buffalo Braves in the NBA were there
(10:44):
for eight nine years and then they moved on. They've
never had a legit parade, and so and they're great fans,
having played there in the AFC East when I was
at the Patriots. So, but to Josh Allen, you know here,
I can't help but think of this. So I played
in in in Denver with l Way, and you know, quarterbacking,
you know, I kind of break it down into two phases.
(11:06):
You know, you have your your physical attributes, which are
we'll call it a triangle at You know, the Giants
use this term triangle numbers for their scouting back when
they were winning Super Bowls. If you take the triangle
physical traits of quarterbacks, size, athleticism, and armstring. Okay, those
(11:29):
are things you can notice the you know, just sixty
seconds into scouting the guy, you can pick up all
of that. The more nuanced phases of okay, how accurate
are you? And do you read defense? Yeah, that it
takes longer to discern that. But let's just get back
to the physical traits. John Elway was the number one
what I have asserted is the number one draft pick
(11:51):
of number ones. You could take a time machine take
John Elway and drop him in any draft. He goes
number one in that draft. He goes number one over
Troy Aikman, he goes number one over Peyton Manning. These
are all number one overalls. He goes number one over
Bubba Smith, he goes number one over O. J.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Simpson.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
John Elway, in the eyes of the NFL, is the
highest regarded player, not just quarterback ever, because of those
those attributes and everything, and you know, big dude six three,
two fifteen, I've never seen a guy throw a football
as hard as John Elway, and he was a great
athlete when he was young. Josh Allen is the only
(12:31):
guy that I can imagine. Remember Elway was the president
of the Broncos. Elway wo would scout and I have
this image of him looking up at Josh Allen, who's
two inches taller, thirty pounds heavier, you know, twenty five
pounds heavier, runs a faster forty and John Elway looking
at Josh Allen going, damn, dude, you got some freaking
skills like that. That's what would be a listen. John
(12:54):
Elway is the number one. And by the way, John
Elway is the number one of high school recruits when
he went to stand. I mean, nobody was ever more
coveted at the quarterback position than John Elway coming out
of Granada Hills High School in the LA area. And
so that's the physical attributes, and so he's just a
(13:15):
beast in that regard his competitiveness.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
This guy has.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
He's leading the NFL in what Pro Football Focus calls
big time throws. He has fifteen Pat mahomes as five
last year he led the NFL in big time throws.
The year before he led the NFL in big time throws.
He in a three year span, he's got one hundred
(13:41):
and nine, which is far and away the most.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Pat Mahomes as seventy four.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
This is a guy that if you love football, you
watch a guy that's willing to rip the ball down
the field with this ungodly hand cannon. Top three strongest
arms I've ever seen, Elway Farvin and Josh Allen. Pat
Mahomes is right behind it, a whisker behind it. But
even at the combine, Pat Mahomes, excuse me, Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Threw it harder.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
There's if you google NFL sports sciences or sports sciences.
They hooked up his fingers to this meter. You can
watch this on YouTube, and they measured Josh Allen's finger
speed when he releases at seventy four miles an hour.
It's the fastest they've ever tested. Now, I don't know
who they're testing, but so the physical skills and by
(14:29):
the way, just a side note on that.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Think about this.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
In a day and age of five star, four star,
three star, you know, and all the handwringing about Josh
Allen was didn't get a single college a scholarship coming
out of high school. He had to go to a
JC and then play at a JC, and then he only
had he was dying to go to Fresno State because
he lived like fifteen minutes from President State. Fresno State
(14:56):
never wanted him, and so the only scholarship he got
was Wyoming. Think about that, what the late maturity of
this guy? And then you know, and I'll just close
with this, he has the best game I've ever seen
in a losing in a losing game. Remember that game
against Kansas City. They lose forty two to thirty six,
(15:16):
and in that game you had Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
He had I'm pulling up the stats here.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
He was twenty seven to thirty seven, three hundred and
twenty nine yards, four touchdowns, no picks, one hundred and
thirty six pass rating, and he had eleven carries for
sixty eight yards. He had three hundred and ninety seven
yards of offense. The running backs for the Bills only
had forty one yards. Meanwhile, the Chiefs had about one
hundred and fifteen yards from their running He had two
(15:45):
drives at the end of the fourth quarter, both seventy
five yarders. Unbelievable drives and through what should have been
the game winning touchdown pass just a dagger from about
thirty yards out and and uh and and with thirteen
seconds to go, that should have been the game winner,
but somehow Mahomes Mahomes Mahomes did so. At any rate,
(16:08):
He's a beautiful competitor, a beautiful athlete, a humble guy. Uh,
a burning competitor, and and all of that talent in
that size, It's just I don't know, he's he's he's
pooring to me, he's football porn. I can't I can't
take my eyes off from when I see him. He's
he's a he's a spectacular talent, and uh, you know,
I just can't wait to watch him again.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
He's just he's just he's phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Is there anything Chris Christopher Greg Is there anything that
that I've said that.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
I've overstated or or am I missing the boat on this?
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Just want to ask do you close the door and
no one's allowed in the room when he is on?
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Is it that type of level?
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, honey, bringing talent some little.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Ya there's no stuff button here summary family, So uh,
how do you stop him? How does the Seahawks have
a hope of stopping him.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
H Well, you know you got to keep him in
the pocket. So I think you got to try and neutralize.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Uh, you gotta.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
He gotta kind of you know, have a muddle rush
at him, you know, keeping your gap. You can't kind
of close in and try and get sacks. Obviously when
you get there, you know, don't go too high.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Uh you know, don't go too low.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
I think you gotta you gotta aim right at the hips,
and you gotta rap hard because he's so strong. Uh,
you know, so you got to deal with his athleticism.
There's you know, there's a Roethlisberger nature to his strength.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
You know, obviously there's not.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
A Lamar Jackson nature to his quickness.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
He's not that quick.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
He's not m uh uh you know a lot of
these other guys uh in a quickness standpoint, But he's
quick and fast enough, and once he gets going, he's
a load to bring down. I mean you know that
that that game against the Chiefs. I can't you know
how many third and two's they just go they run.
That's another aspect to like run, you know, Q power
(18:02):
and Q counter. They'll you know, they'll c they'll pull
backside guards and tackles. Let him run right in between
the hash marks and let let you know, just let
him get pounded and he'll just you know, he'll just
get up, put the ball on the ground, go back
to the huddle. Like he's you know, impervious to these hits.
So there's a there's a physical nature to him. You
better wrap up and and uh and bring some bad
(18:22):
intentions with you when you go to tackle them. And
then and then the things he can do from a
velocity standpoint. Uh, let me, I'll make a quick point.
He threw the ball eighty yards at the combine, and
so most go routes are you'd be amazed. I had
a coach tell me, Uh, remember Ernie's MPs, the offenseive
(18:43):
coordinator from the famed Air Coriel. This is one of
the most famous offense coordinators in history. He says, watch
how many times go routes are completed forty two yards
from the lion scrimmant.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
You just you just stop.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
It's like amazing how often it's at forty two yards.
Now the quarterback's five yards behind the line of scrimmage,
and there's a I die.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
And also you're throwing at more than forty two.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
But you know the balls in the area about if
you do the measurements, about fifty three yards. So any
quarterback in the NFL can complete a go route. But
here's the thing. Go routes are thrown on one, two, three, four, five,
hitch and throw, five steps, hitch and throw. There's a
very small select few that can go seven steps or
from shotgun can go five steps, hitch once, maybe even
(19:24):
hitch twice. Why is that important? When corners are in zone,
they're feeling the receiver, but they're watching the quarterbacks drop.
There's a lot of quarterback I mean, I'm on thirty
third team. I just heard Rondie Barber, who's in the
Hall of Fame. You know, he would describe his reads.
You know that if the quarterback's going seven steps, then
(19:45):
it can't be a go route.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
It's got to be a comeback or a deep curl.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
So you can stop covering the go route once you
see the quarterback go past five steps and get with
Josh Allen, not so fast, my friend, because he because
of that hand cannon, he can go seven steps and
then still throw the go route out there, and and
he can go from shotgun. He can go, play, action, shotgun,
(20:11):
all the things that would destroy the timing.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Far hash. You say, oh boy, I better get it up.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
You know most quarterbacks say as far hash, I better one, two,
three for five, get it up quick. He can go
far hash, I'll go, I'll go, I'll lowy dag my
way back here after a long play action fake and
then I'll just kind of hold the ball and and
then I'll decide to just launch it. Well, that puts
a hell of a burden on corners for the reason
(20:38):
I just described. So that that that that arm strength.
You better be away. And then and then another thing,
you have your landmarks, you go, you go a safety.
You know, depending on the hash, he can be okay,
I'm gonna be two yards inside the numbers, or and
make my adjustments on the hash and you say, okay,
no quarterback in the NFL can make that throw. These
(20:58):
guys are the best in the world. But I know
that I can cover that ground on the hole shot.
If they try and hit up the sideline, well, what
Josh Allen can do is he can hold you down
the middle with his eyes and then he can turn
and he can just laser just freaking baseball throw it
like a catcher throwing to second base. He can he
can just he can just hose that freaking hole shot
(21:21):
to the side of the safety. And then as a
safety you come back to the defensive coordinator, you go coach,
I was on my landmarks, and he you know, like
like I know that in theory, this has all been
thought out through the years, Like if you're on this landmark,
you can get to that ball. Well, a guy like
Josh Allen, he just breaks that down, you know. And
(21:41):
then and then to even tackle. I did a hitch
study a couple of weeks a couple of weeks ago
because of Gino and his late hits against the forty
nine ers, And so I looked at all the hitch
routes against Cover three and all the light kind I
believe what was it?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
There was thirty one of them.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
You know, who leads the league in hits throws out
on to a why because he smokes that ball out
so freaking hard that even though that than the hitch rout,
by the way, just a you know, call it a
five yard bucket button hook. There's now there's a lot
more nuanced to it. If you're coaching in an NFL
receiving room. But for purposes of fans, say you just
go five five steps, turn around, catch the ball. What
(22:21):
Josh Allen can do, hold you with the eyes, and
then just turn and rip that thing. And then now
the burden that's where the hidden yards of a strong
armor in the yards after the contact, because now the
ball just on a little hitch rode out to the sideline.
It's on the receiver so fast. Now you're the corner
(22:41):
you're driving on that You're you're three yards away from
the receiver instead of two. And then now that receiver
has more space to beat you and and force a mistackle.
If you're two yards away, you can close on them.
If you're three yards away, well every inch matters, and
and and so these are the fine details until you
get the run after the catch on on simple throws,
(23:04):
because you know, like RPOs, ball's on the right hatse,
We're gonna run a bubble to the left. We're gonna
call insidees on to the right. I'm Josh Allen, I
got a handcannon. I'm gonna just read. I'm gonna read
the conflict defender in the slot. Oh he's he's not
getting with let me smoke this bubble screen out. Even
though it's to the far side of the field. Well,
the ball gets there so damn fast. Now the receivers
(23:25):
they have more time to make somebody miss.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Those are the hidden yards. If you lob that ball.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Then the defend, defender's closing as soon as the receiver
catches it. Boom the receiver. The defender's right there to
tackle him. So like arm strength, it creates a problem
throughout the world.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
You know, ye, so you like him? Thanks, thanks you,
as only you can describe the great Josh.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Hey, hey, Christopher, you knew if you got me on
Josh Allen, I'm gonna burn right through the clock. Like
we don't have the producers call me if you're gonna
ask me about Josh Allen, I'm gonna destroy the clock.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
That's just all there is to him.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Appreciate you. It's only you can the great milling that
is LHI roundtable tomorrow eighty. Thanks you.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Hugh is on and on to the break of dawn
about Josh Allen and rightly so we think he's an
MVP in the league so far, and Hugh Millan says
he's got the top, he's the top five quarterback he's
ever seen, top three strongest arms he's ever seen.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Calls him football porn. He's pouring to me. H milling
as all if you miss that, shame on you.
Speaker 1 (24:27):

All right, let's see from Keith Miller any troop to
the rumors that Josh Allen has a restraining order against Millan.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Oh wow, that's the one we have to ask Millan.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Let's see totally agree with Hugh on Josh Allen, best
quarterback I've ever seen. My daughter went to college with
him at Wyoming.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Okay, that's cooled.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
From the four to five, I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Yes, this is wants to know. He's dying to know
who the saw breeze.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
We all know him. At the Sabers, give hil break.
You were excited. He got the talking. As he mentioned.
Speaker 5 (25:33):
You know, if you gonna ask me at Josh Allen question,
it's gonna be a long one.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I blew up your clock. All right.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Last one, My prediction is from Marcus. My prediction just
won from thirty four to seventeen to Bill's forty one
to ten.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
There you have it, four two botches.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
The MVP this year is clearly Taylor Swift, with Snoop
Dogg a close second, but truly Taylor deserves a third
straight Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Well, we also deserve to give you guys a chance
to win some money. So are you ready?
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Greg? One thousand dollars your chance from the Emmeral Queen
Casino is right now.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Where's that to go?
Speaker 6 (26:02):
Glad you're with us, it's your shot at our weekly
thousand bucks and the ten thousand dollars Grand Prize. It's
Factor Fiction, brought to you by the Emerald Queen Casino,
the betting capital of the Northwest. Make the beautiful new

Fiction is on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
The Washington State Cougars are six and one. They're only
lost to Boise State on the road. Game they hung
with until running back just when nuts.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
But now they're on the road at San Jose, San
Diego State excuse me Saturday seven point thirty. San Diego
State's three and three, but one of better wins is
against Texas A and M Commerce in a layup game
of the lower division school.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
To start the season. They went.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
They won twenty seven to twenty four over Wyoming last
time out. You know what their quarterback's name is at
San Diego State, Crescent.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Liam Danny O'Neill is the quarterbacks name Washington State has.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
They're fourteen and a half point favorites on the road.
That's a lot of points for a team that's still Yeah,
they're six and one.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
They beat the Huskies. They've had some impressive games and wins.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
This is gonna I have a feeling this is gonna
be a slog for Washington State.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
They're gonna win the game.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
I don't think they're gonna win in the game by
more than fifteen points. I'm gonna take San Diego State
to cover the spread, but not win the game. Give
me San Diego State at home plus the fourteen and
a half Saturday night against the Koops. If you agree,
text factor four nine four to five one. If you disagree,
text fiction to four nine four to five one. You
have twelve minutes, after which time your next chance will
(27:53):
be twelve two thirty five as in fourteen hours and
thirty five minutes on The Ian Forernest Show or three
thirty five Dave, Softy, Maller, and Dick fame.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
San Diego State plus fourteen and a half at home
against Washington State Saturday night at seven thirty.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
You can watch that game on CBS Sports Network Television
on Cable. I think the Koogs will win, Chris, I
just don't.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Think they're gonna yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's okay,
I get it.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
I mean they blew out the Hawaii team that San
Diego State had some trouble with the Coogs did last week,
but I just see the coogs do for a slog
of a game while still winning.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
This could be it on the road Saturday night Santos,
San Diego State.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
So I'm taking San Diego State plus the fourteen and
a half points as a home underdog to.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Cover but lose if you're agreed text factor four nine,
four or five one.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
If you disagree and think that Washington State's going to
blow them out by more than four fifteen points than
text fiction the four nine, four or five one, you
have about ten and a half minutes to do that.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
If you Here's how it works. You only have to.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Win one time any week to get entered in the
drawing for that week's one thousand dollars from the Emerald
Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. If you
win the most times during the contest that ends in
mid December, you win the grand prize of ten thousand dollars.
So it'd be who's you to enter as many times
as you're able to and listening and hearing the twelve
minute window when it comes up, and we tell you
when it's coming no surprise at seven thirty five am,
(29:19):
eleven thirty five am two thirty five pm and three
thirty five pm every weekday.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Monday through Friday.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Enter as those times so you can max out your
chances to win, because if you max out your wins,
you max out your cash. Ten thousand dollars from the
Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest, San
Diego State plus fourteen and a half at home against
Washington State.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
That's my pick.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Text fact to four nine, four to five one if
your agree, Text fiction to four nine and four to nine,
five to one if you disagree.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Ian Ferness is up next.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
He's going to join me from right here in Renton
at Seahawks headquarters, where they've made a trade and acquired
Ernest Jones as a run stopping linebacker from the Tennessee Titans,
sending Jerome Baker to Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
We'll talk about that.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
We'll talk about the cracking losing last night and playing
tomorrow night to the undefeated Winnipeg Jets.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Here on KJR lots to talk.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
About with the n next on ninety three point three
kJ R FM.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Welcome back. We're at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Greg
Belin News, you'd be in Christopher cannon.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I am joined by the Mayor and maple Vat of
the Great and for nass is also here at Seahawks headquarters.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
What's going on already this morning? Boy?
Speaker 7 (30:22):
Busy day? Huh, busy day? Your story done?
Speaker 2 (30:25):
It took me an hour and a half.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
I gotta tell people. Can I take people behind the curtain?
This is awesome because I think this is a kind
of cool thing with you, and I'm just trying to
think out there. I think you and I about the
only multitask job guys in this market right now. Right
am I missing somebody? Probably right now?
Speaker 2 (30:42):
I don't like so.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
I mean our former linebacker friend just color for this,
It doesn't matter. That's that's like one day a week.
Like when you have two media jobs. It's awesome in
a lot of ways because you're doing probably two things
you like to do. But it's also can be highly stressful.
I feel like every day my blood pressure rises, and
(31:04):
you know, trying to prepare for one thing and while
talking about five other things. But you today were like
a student and everyone's had this stress. The term paper
has to get done at the last minute, and you
didn't procrastinate like all of us did. In college, but
you were working like a student that procrastinated on his
term paper at the end of the day. The trades
(31:24):
made for Baker.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Happened while I was driving here.
Speaker 7 (31:27):
And you've got to do it. You've got to do
a radio show for two hours live and also get
a story for your main employer, which would be the
News Tribune.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
So I would say, hey, wait a minute, Yeah, and I.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
Know that because, yeah, main employers don't like side employers
all the time exactly. So yeah, Greg's out here pounding
away doing a story, trying to do a radio show.
Every commercial break, he's pounding away trying to bang out
a story, which if you just were doing it, you
would probably take what twenty minutes.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
It would not even it was like a three hundred
word story an hour and a half.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
But because you've had to do other things, like I
don't know, do a radio show like you grass to
get it done well done.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Appreciate you. Yeah, giving a glimpse behind the scenes because
you've done it so many times.
Speaker 7 (32:03):
I do. I'll do it tomorrow. We have a hockey
game tomorrow, pregame show while production meeting and all this
kind of stuff, and Jess will be telling me like,
what do we do? No, No, I'm like, I don't care,
let's just do it whatever. You just schedule it. So thanks,
I'm trying to pull it off. I hope you did. Sure,
it's fine.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
The trade for Baker. Trading Baker is to me, the
same reason they traded Darryl Taylor to Chicago. If you
can't play the run against in Mike McDonald's defense, you
aren't playing linebacker. And that's why Ernest Jones is coming.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
I've mentioned to Hugh I think last week at one
point I felt like they're playing with with you know,
with with nine players on defense. I think both those
guys have struggled.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Doughts it as well. That's right at the point of
attack strength issue. Yeah, he's Hugh mentioned to us. It
looks just on watching a few plays of Tennessee Titans
and Rams film that Ernest Jones has quote more sand
in his pants.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
I heard that we're going to play that quote later
at twelve thirty. I think that was a great quote.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Yes, which is exactly what.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
They need when I he doesn't do a justice all
the time, but even here, the very limited glimpses we got,
like in training camp, and stuff like that. We didn't see.
We didn't see Baker all at OTA's mini camp, but
the very limited glimpses we have, he just always looks small,
just looked undersize. And I'm used to seeing guys like
you know, Brooks and Wagner that were just yoke what
(33:18):
are they listing at that?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
So I was just looking up. But Bakers six thirty two,
he looked like six foot two twenty ten. I if that.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
Yeah, yeah, like was very.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Slight in locker room.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Yeah, he and just just felt like, you know, we
can talk about run fits and gaps all you want.
I just don't think physically he was up to it.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
They they knew what they were doing with Bobby Wagner.
But you think they regret the jeorde Brooks do.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
I think.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
I mean you'll you'll never hear them say that, not publicly,
but the Wagner thing, that ship had sailed right, and
you and I had been around enough and especially on
the road the last couple of years post you know,
just off the record stuff that we hear, it was
it was time. It just was time for Bobby to
move on.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
I was surprised by brook because he definitely wanted to
stay here. And when he told me in Arizona have
the final game last in January that they hadn't even
talked to him about an I was really surprised.
Speaker 7 (34:08):
I talked to him that same day, that same afternoon
and asked if him and I didn't do it on
the camera with Fox. I just said, hey, do you
expect to be back or do you want to be back?
And he said, I don't know if I'm coming back.
I want to come back. And he told me the
same thing, he says, we haven't even had discussion yet.
And I was like, I was knocked over with a feather.
And the reason I talked to him is because he
was one of the guys was pissed off about the cigar.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
That's when I was talking to him, was when he
was sitting there in full uniform, staring across the locker room. Yeah,
smoke around.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
I don't know if I talked to him before or
after you did, but I was just wandering around there
and I kind of told Walker a photog, he just
stand back, let me just let me just go, and
I could he wasn't going on camera that day, No,
it was he was seething. That's why I kind of
wanted him to come back. I want a guy like that, yep,
you know, like like it's the Jack Nicholson. You want
me on the wall. He want that guy there. He
(34:56):
is a Mike McDonald type of Oh, I know. That's
what's just surprising, Greg. That is what is surprising about that.
And maybe in all and it wasn't a money thing.
He didn't get a ton of money from Miami. It
was effectively a trade.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Right, That's right, and now that trade is now traded
to Tennessee. Was on a fire sale.
Speaker 7 (35:15):
Here's what I love about what they did today, though,
And this is what I love about this organization. And
I compare it all the time and the hockey teams
the same way. If something doesn't work, they do it,
they make it. They don't if they do not, hesitate
to make it, switch a change, or or at least
attempt to do something about it. It's the opposite of
what we have with the baseball team. Like it's status
(35:36):
quo is never good enough in this building. And I
I if you're a Seahawks fan, you have to love that.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
And that's the very nature of the NFL. It's so
here the most part, for the most part, non guaranteed contracts.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Yeah here and now.
Speaker 7 (35:49):
Yeah, I mean I'm a touching on the hockey team. Later,
they've got some issues with a couple of key guys.
And so like Dan Bilsman starting in the third period
last night, he did something we never saw with Haxtall.
He just he took the lines that threw him a blender.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Man.
Speaker 7 (36:02):
It was every shift was a different group of three
coming out there. It was crazy. I mean, we we
couldn't keep track of it, but I loved it. It
didn't work, they didn't win, but like, there's no hey,
we'll just work our way through this. It's like, man,
there's a sense of urgency all eighty two games and
for this football team out here since the second John
Schneider and I you agree with me, the second John
Schneider walked in this building. No complacency, none whatsoever. It
(36:26):
doesne't work, We're gonna change it. And you know, if
we made a mistake, then we'll try to rectify that mistake.
And the Jerome Baker signing was a mistake. Today's trade,
it's comte confirms that, Man, you're not going to bat
a thousand as a GM.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (36:37):
Just you just aren't You're not h And Ernest Jones.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Is still only twenty four years old. He's played the
league four years now.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
I just remember seeing because it's Ernest Jones, the fourth right,
I just remember seeing that name plate a lot in
the Rams.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Yeah, middle defense. He was their middle linebacker for three seasons.
So I'm happy, let's let's go get him. Like I
I like it.
Speaker 7 (36:55):
I like seeing that and stuff. So but yeah, I
I'm sure the Mike McDonald news conference in ten minutes,
ten to fifteen minutes, so that just got a lot
more interesting.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Yeah, we got a lot of questions to ask him.
Speaker 7 (37:06):
Usually they don't announce their their roster moves until three
o'clock in the afternoon after the Wednesday news conference. This
is an added bonus today.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
We actually have injury information. George Vans back from injury.
You got another turn paper right too? What did we
get to listen to from twelve to three.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
We're gonna Kobe Bryant's gonna walk into this very room
here in about twenty minutes or so, and we're gonna
check in with the Seahawks safety cornerback turned safety who
had his first start since I think Detroit last year
was the first started to start the lastar twelve months.
And he made the most of it.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
He sure did. I thought he played a really good game.
Speaker 7 (37:42):
Not so sure. He's not a better option moving ahead either.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Over Rashawn Jenkins Parvers he will start again this week.
That Jenkins on injurieserve.
Speaker 7 (37:50):
But I'm excited to talk to him. It's been a battle.
He was hurt last year, had the toe injury, but
started six games his rookie year, played all seventeen and
play in a position he was not drafted to. No Nope,
so good for him. So we'll talk to Kobe Bryant
coming up at about twelve ten today, will your conversation
with you. We took the little snippet out his evaluation
of Ernest Jones. We'll play that at twelve thirty and
(38:10):
then we'll hear a little bit from Mike McDonald at
one thirty today, we'll we'll reh we'll flip that around
Andrews will and one o'clock Steve Pelozzolo, he's gonna tell
us about what he sees on tape from Jones. And
then some guy named Homebren's can actually be in this
building today. Oh, he'll be walking in here. He doesn't
come here first. He goes down the hall. Yes, talks
(38:31):
to Eric Kennedy, the equipment manager.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Yeah. The last time I was here, he went be
line straight for Eric Kennedy.
Speaker 7 (38:35):
Goes down it, hangs out with Eric, talks Tomo Kelly,
and does his thing, makes his way around the building.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
What's funny when like he owns the place when walk Yeah,
when he walks to the locker room, only like three
guys know who he is because the team is so
young and turned over.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
I love the guy. He's coming up at two o'clock.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
That sounds great.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
And Paulozolo, if it's not already on your schedule, maybe
fit in a question on what he thinks of Mike
Durell's opening game.
Speaker 7 (38:58):
Text him right now to give him.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
There's some constance some people believe that he did not
have a good game by analytics numbers. My eyes told
me he had a really good game.
Speaker 7 (39:07):
I will check on that.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
That is Ian Ferness with Anderson Hurst and Jessemin McIntyre
for the next three hours twelve until three, they'll have
Factor fiction. Your next chance to win one thousand dollars
from the Emeral Queen Casino comes up at two thirty five.
My pick, you have about a second or maybe minus
one seconds to put in San Diego State plus fourteen
and a half at home against the Cougs, only because
I think they're gonna win.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Coogs will win, but not by fifteen or more. That's all.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
That's all close slog type of game. I'm getting a
snare from mister Furness.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
Where do you write a check every twice a year
to that school?
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (39:40):
I do, I pay handsomely. The inferness is up next.
I'm Greg Bell at the News Tribune. Christopher Canrey, thank
you for listening. Will be back here again tomorrow from
ten to noon on ninety three point three kJ RFM
