(00:00):
I be bored in Philadelphia. Iswe're breaking down the live action and helping
you make your live wagers at theright moment. Follow all the action right
now on the line change with JohnJanson. I don't think it's any surprise

(00:34):
that we finally see the trade godown, but Aaron Rodgers is officially a
New York Jet with him being tradedfrom the Green Bay Packers to New York.
Now we've known about this, ithas been frustratingly annoying just to hear
whether or not it's going to happen, all the talks between the Packers GM

(00:55):
and what the Jets GM was saying, and is this actually gonna get done?
It was just a lot of wedon't care. We already hear enough
for Rodgers, already hear enough ofhim on the Pat mcavie shows. It's
enough, Just get it done. Finally it's done, and we could talk
about the trade and the trade obviouslybeing Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Now the Green Bay Packers getting inthat pick number thirteen, so they

(01:17):
do a bit of a pick swapwith the Jets, so the Jets will
get the fifteenth pick for the Packers. Packers move up two spots get the
thirteenth pick. They also get asecond round pick this year, which is
the forty second overall pick in thedraft, and a sixth round pick a
conditional twenty twenty four second round pickas well that can become a first if
Rogers play sixty five percent of theplays, And of course the Jets get

(01:37):
Aaron Rodgers number fifteen pick and thefifth round pick. To be honest,
I keep hearing this is a lot. You're always gonna pay a lot for
Aaron Rodgers and it's always going tobe too much. Didn't they really pay
that big of a price here,Because usually when these quarterback moves are made,
and we've seen this with the Rams, We've seen this with Deshaun Watson,
We've seen this a couple of othertimes, that teams kind of handicap

(02:01):
themselves a little bit because they willget the short term value but really ruin
the long term. We're seeing thatwith the Rams. Rams got really good
one year value. Adam Matthew Staffordyear number two injuries and doesn't play for
most of the season, and theRams look terrible, and the Rams went
all in, but the Jets arenot in that bad of a situation,

(02:23):
considering they have a lot of youngtalent and they've drafted somewhat well in previous
years. And really it's just thisyear's draft, and it's not that bad
for this year's draft because they stickat the fifteenth overall picks or they're picking
in the top fifteen, which isstill pretty good. You're getting a good
player, a first round talent typeplayer in the fifteenth overall pick, but

(02:46):
then also you're only giving up afirst round pick for next year now the
Jets. And a lot of thishas to do with the context of the
situation, because it's not like theJets didn't have to do this, and
they could have maybe drafted a quarterback, they could have done something different
other than getting Aaron Rodgers. TheJets aren't in that position. The Jets
tried their hand at a second overallpick quarterback. They tried their hand to

(03:08):
getting the rookie and building that way, which has been profitable for some teams,
and they missed flat out with andit's not like they have any value
and getting rid of that second overallpick that they drafted in Zach Wilson.
Zach Wilson Jess sucks, and sothey put themselves already in a bad position
because of that and kind of forcedtheir hand here. They had to get

(03:30):
a veteran quarterback because with the teamas they are now, since they were
able to draft a lot of players, since they were able to get a
lot of draft picks and acquire themin ways that now they have a young
team, they have a lot oftalent offensively and also a good defense as
well, that Robert Tala has donean excellent job with. You don't have

(03:50):
the luxury to just Okay, well, let's either rebuild again, trade a
bunch of draft picks and trade up. It would have cost more. You're
making an other long term decision again, you already wasted one valuable resource on
Then they would have to go allthe way back up again if they wanted
to get another young quarterback. Otherthan that, what's the option? Are

(04:12):
you gonna do what the Colts do? You're gonna get the Matt Ryan's of
the world, the Philip Rivers ofthe world. And you could say Aaron
Rodgers potentially the same thing as thoseguys, but he's not he's better.
He had a thumb injury last year. I imagine he's gonna be much better
this season than he was previously lastyear. And also last year the Packers
weren't good. We knew going intothat season. They got rid of the

(04:33):
Vante Adams, and then we lookedat the rest of their wide receiver group
and said, who who's going toreplace that? Who is going to be
good on that offense? Nobody was, And so you pair the injury with
the lack of talent, and thenyou get whatever the Green Bay Packers were
last year, which was not verygood. I know Aaron Rodgers comes with

(04:55):
a lot of baggage, and hecomes with an annoying side of him that
nobody cares for unless you really likehim on the Pat mcafe show that much.
I get all of the baggage thathe comes with. But what else
are the Jets going to do?And I feel like they handcuffed themselves even

(05:15):
more if they try and go backup and redo the mistake that they made
a few years ago with Zach Wilson, that number two overall pick. Once
that went bad and once Zack Wilsondidn't pan out, this whole thing was
thrown awry. And I think thisis the best possible solution, and they're

(05:35):
still getting a first round pick thisyear. They can't even trade that first
round pick to get more picks. We've seen this a lot with Howie Roseman
and how he does this. HowieRoseman sort of got the quarterback right with
Carson Wentz because at least in yearnumber two they went to a super Bowl,
and large part of it was theway he played in the regular season,
but still that went very poorly, and so you didn't get the long

(05:57):
term investment that you're supposed to getWentz. You have a quarterback that you
put all these resources and goes bad, put money, draft picks, all
that, and Howie Roseman was ableto smartly rebuild. And we've seen this
over and over and over again thathe's able to find ways to compile draft
picks, that he's able to makethe right trades and you can rebuild pretty
quickly. But the thing is it'sgoing to take a couple of years,

(06:19):
and for the Eagles, it tooka couple of years for the Jets.
If they really want to find thequarterback that they won, and they really
want to get all the draft picksand resources for that it's going to take
a couple of years. The Jetsat least have a good offense to surround
Aaron Rodgers with Garrett Wilson's good. They get Alan Bizard, who was a

(06:40):
fine number two. Wasn't a numberone like he came into last year in
Green Bay, but a good numbertwo. I wish they would have had
Elijah Mitchell or Elijah More excuse me, but they don't, and I think
that's a bit of a miss.But I think Miko Hartman's not bad as
well. I thought the talent wasvery good, just need to stay healthy.
And I think towards the end westarted to see how much of an

(07:00):
impact he really was for Kansas City. And then of course he get Breese
Hall and some really good running backsbehind him as well. And we saw
the defense last year. This isa team that won seven games last year
and they had no idea who theirquarterback was. Mike White. We were
all calling the next guy in theJets are at least some were think,
hey, he might be serviceable enoughto get him to the playoffs, and

(07:21):
he wasn't. Those are two badquarterbacks in Mike White and Zach Wilson.
They needed a quarterback. They alreadywent through the draft to do it.
They already went through those means. They couldn't do it again, couldn't afford
it again. It's a lot moreto get that number two overall pick or

(07:43):
number three overall pick if they wantedto, let's say, get a C.
J. Stroud or to get anAnthony Richardson, it would cost more
to get that draft pick than itwould Aaron Rodgers. At least now,
if this investment goes poor, you'reonly setting yourself up for failure for the

(08:03):
next two years, when if youinvest again in a top draft pick,
you pretty much are stuck again withnothing and in the same spot. And
it's even going to be worse todig yourself out of it than it was
the last time the Jets were forcedinto this. The Jets I think had

(08:30):
to do it, and I thinkit's a quarterback worth investing into that.
I don't think you're ruining yourself longterm, for they already have a lot
of guys in place. This isa pretty good roster, and I think
it's a roster that, with AaronRodgers in it now can compete in the

(08:50):
AFC East. And still they geta first round draft pick this year,
and if things go well and AaronRodgers does work out, you're only missing
out on a first round pick nextyear. And if you do that,
then Aaron Rodgers is gonna make thatdraft pick worthless anyway. They're gonna be

(09:11):
drafting in the mid to late twentiesif this works out. I don't see
a scenario. It'll be a toughscenario to imagine that Aaron Rodgers plays through
the sixty five percent of the snaps, which is the conditional part of that
second round pick to make it afirst round pick. There's not many scenarios

(09:31):
in my head to where Aaron Rodgersplays the entire season and he's healthy and
with that roster, the Jets don'tat least make the playoffs. And it's
the division to me that looks toughfor sure, because Buffalo was good last
year and they have Josh Allen.Miami was really good last year, just

(09:52):
had injuries to their quarterback to atongue of valoa. But the Bills are
getting worse. They're not getting better. Josh Allen's not getting better. By
the way, I know, there'sthis love affair with Josh Allen but to
be honest, he hasn't really beenthat good since that breakout year that he
had. I mean, he stilldoes some wildly crazy things that no quarterback

(10:18):
can do in the NFL, andit's worth, obviously Buffalo to keep that
guy, and that guy is goingto win you some games and win you
a lot of games. We sawit last year Buffalo won thirteen and three.
We knew that thirteen and three wasa little bit fraudulent. They go
into the playoffs, they barely beata Miami team that's playing a backup quarterback,

(10:46):
and then they lose to Cincinnati andthey didn't have a chance. They
were beat badly by Cincinnati. That'sa team we knew had issues going into
the playoffs, and I think alot of those issues were Josh Allen's inconsistency.
I mean, the guy for twoyears straight sixty three point three percent

(11:09):
completion percentage, his interceptions have gonethrough the roof the last three two years
to get fifteen and twenty twenty one, fourteen and twenty twenty two. It's
like, I get he can dosome spectacular things on an NFL field,
but it's not like he's getting betterand at that at least can counter the

(11:31):
fact that Buffalo's roster is not gettingbetter now. Miami's roster is good.
I like Miami's roster. They've donea lot to it. They have the
wide receivers, which you would wantfor any team that's competing for a championship.
You know, they have a gooddefense, But what they're missing is
a healthy quarterback and a quarterback thatI think is good. But those are

(11:56):
two or three horrendous concussions that hehad and I have no idea how his
body's going to react this year.So the AFC East, yeah, I
could say it's good and it couldbe a tough division, but it's certainly
a winnable one. It's a vulnerableone, not in the same way that

(12:20):
the AFC South is, but it'sa division where I see two teams at
the top that I would have somemajor concerns about heading into this year.
And incomes the Jets, and theirbiggest worry is, well, how much
has Aaron Rodgers regressed as a quarterback? Has he Russell Wilson regressed or was

(12:45):
he Tom Brady at the end ofhis time in New England regressed Like his
stats weren't that great and Brady wasjust kind of getting beat up because of
a really bad offense. And thenBrady goes into an offense that actually has
talent, and what do you know, it helps and the Jets have at
least a bit of that, notin the same way that Tampa Bay did.

(13:05):
Tampa Bay was kind of loaded whenBrady went in there. Still the
situation called for the Jets as theyare now, and as they've messed up
already at getting a franchise quarterback, that getting a guy that's been one of

(13:28):
the best quarterbacks in the league foryears now coming off of albeit not his
best season, but still I wouldlike to think there is something left in
the tank there that it's not completelyempty, and this guy elevates your team
in a way that most quarterbacks can't. Philip Rivers couldn't elevate Indianapolis like that.
This isn't the Indianapolis route. Indianapoliswanted to get veteran quarterbacks and get

(13:52):
it cheaply, and they did withMatt Ryan and Philip Rivers. If you
want to get actually a quarterback thatcould elevate your team, you have to
pay up a bit. And yeah, the Jets paid up, but considering
the price they would have had topay to move up in the draft and

(14:13):
get a number two, number threeoverall pick, to get one of the
top quarterbacks, or to go throughthat all again, I don't think it's
worth it when your team already withtwo bad quarterbacks kind of look good.
I think it's worth investing in thatkind of quarterback for this team right now

(14:35):
for the next year or two.Obviously it's a bonus if Aaron Rodgers continues
to play and he doesn't retire afterone or two. I don't think he's
going to retire after one year.I knew he was close, but I
don't believe anything Aaron Rodgers says. And I'm sure Tom Brady. Tom Brady
has thought about retiring for probably fiveto seven years and he finally did it.

(14:58):
I'm sure Aaron Rodgers thought about tiring. I imagine though this gives him
new life. There's a rejuvenation toit, and if they do show some
success this year, Rodgers is probablygonna want to run that back because year
two is always going to be better. Most likely, if you get two
years out of Aaron Rodgers, itworks. This is only hurting you for

(15:22):
a couple of years. If AaronRodgers plays more than that, you won
the deal. And if he playsat a certain level, obviously he doesn't
have to be Aaron Rodgers that wona Super Bowl. He doesn't have to
be Aaron Rodgers that has been MVPand the best player in the league at
times. He doesn't have to bethat guy. Tom Brady wasn't that guy

(15:43):
in Tampa Bay. Tom Brady wasn'tthe best quarterback in the league in Tampa
Bay. I knew he was closeto winning an MVP, but he was
still really good. And when youhave talent around a really good quarterback,
one that also has a lot ofexperience, good things happen. I think

(16:03):
the Jets have that kind of teamfor Rogers, and if Rogers can play
at that level at a high level, doesn't have to be his MVP self,
but a high level can be reallygood. Good things are gonna happen
for the Jets, And considering thesituation, it's really not that high of
a price to pay. Tune intothe line change Fox Sports the Gambler.
