Sports talk that has never been donebefore in Philadelphia. We're talking is we're
breaking down the live action and helpingyou make your live wagers at the right
moment. Follow all the action rightnow on the line Chaine with John Jansen.
(00:36):
If you follow the action this weekend, it was great action, especially
for the Sixers and Phillies finally onSundays getting wins over Boston teams. It
was not looking great. So thoseBoston teams were doing a heck of a
job against Philly, but able tocome away with victories on Sunday and needed
(00:58):
ones for both squads. Now we'llget more obviously into the Sixers because that
Game four win was a much neededwin. But I'm still not feeling great
overall about the series and I feellike we are kind of in for a
rough, rough game number five againstBoston. We'll get into that on today's
show. You can hear two guestscoming up in just a few minutes at
(01:22):
about six twenty will be Mark HenryJunior. You can follow him at Mark
Henry Junior Underscore on Twitter. We'llgo over the Sixers win against Boston,
what's going to be needed moving forwardin this series? And then of course
getting into the rest of the NBAaction. Two games tonight Nick's Heat also
Lakers and Warriors in Then at seveno'clock Jeff Parles of Vison will be joining
(01:44):
us. It's been a couple ofweeks since I've had Jeff Parles on the
program. He keeps avoiding me.He will not be avoiding me Today we'll
go over Major League Baseball bets andof course NBA betting as well with Jeff
Parles at seven o'clock here on theline change Fox Sports Gamble run name was
John Jaanson Follow me at jh It'sin thirty four And what a win for
the Sixers it was on Sunday. They got the much needed buckets from Harden,
(02:07):
they got the late three from JamesHarden. They got PJ. Tucker
yelling at him bad to get himgoing so he can stop with whatever the
heck was going on in that fourthquarter with himpid. It was a good
win for the Sixers. I thinkthe thing that's most impressive if James Harden
after two games of what shooting abouttwenty something percent, the worst two game
(02:29):
stretch shooting wise that Harden has hadin his entire career. When it comes
to shooting percentage, I think heshot about eighteen percent from the field in
the previous two games before Game four, and then Harden comes around right away
and he ends up hitting the gamewinner, the game tying buckets to get
(02:49):
into overtime, than the game winnerto win in overtime. It was another
impressive performance by Harden. He wasan assist and to rebound away from a
triple double. And that's all thingsthat the Sixers need from Harden now.
If you want to get into concernsright away, the concern is can Harden
keep this up? Not just that, but hardened Scott to do better on
a game to game basis that hehas. It's amazing that he has come
(03:13):
away with two incredible moments and hehas in Game one hitting that three against
Al Horford and then Game four catchingthat pass from Embiide to hit the game
winner. Those are two great moments. Those are two of the better moments
we've seen in Sixers basketball. Inthis Joel embiad era, we haven't seen
(03:35):
much of this. We haven't seenmuch of late buckets, you know,
clutch buckets from guys and James Hardnessprovided that really James Harden has it really
hit those shots very often at timesthis season, and he hits him there,
So that's good, all well andgood, and I'm not saying Harden
needs to put up forty and fiftyin the games that the Sixers win.
(03:57):
But the toughest part about Boss istheir backcourt. Malcolm Brogden has been great
this series. Jason Jaylen Brown, not Jason Tatum. Jason Daman has been
good, but Jaylen Brown has beenphenomenal this series, especially defensively, he
has been really good. And thenDerek White as well. I mean those
and Marcus Smart. Of course, those are four guards that are very tough
(04:21):
to a defend, but b scoreagainst. They are a tough task that
can throw four guards at you atany time. It's a lot, and
really it's on Harden and Maxie toget the job done. Now. Melton
has given them good minutes, especiallyon the defensive end, where Melton has
been fantastic in the series. Offensivelyafter Game one disappointing, even in Game
(04:45):
four disappointing. I think miss thelay up early on in that game.
So I think Melton has been givingenough. But really it's up to Maxie
and Harden and Maxie struggles against Boston. So there is an emphasis here on
even just past the I think weit stuck on, you know, and
Bead and Hardened together have to bethe two guys, and especially you know,
(05:06):
Harden has to pick up the slackfor him. Bead and Harden was
the only reason him Bead wasn't thatgood, I think really, to me,
the Hardened conundrum comes down to thematchup, and Boston at times has
won this matchup in an extreme waywhere Hardened can't make a bucket, can't
(05:27):
shoot, can't do anything, can'teven function offensively offensively at times, and
then we go from that too,he puts up forty and fifty in two
separate games. Those are extremes.Harden has gotten the upper hand at times,
but it has gotten really bad,and I'm not sure how to feel
(05:49):
about that, And the inconsistency fromHardened in that area does for me raise
some concerns. And that's not tosay that Harden has been bad this series
or Harden will be bad this series. I'm just not exactly sure what he's
gonna be like in Game five.Game one was great, Game four is
great, Game two and three werebad, So what next? What Harden
(06:12):
will show up? And because Ithink Boston is better suited for a longer
seven game series because they do havedepth at the guard position and they have
depth overall, that they might bebetter suited here in game five and through
game seven. Harden put in agreat performance in Game four because I think
(06:35):
it was back against the wall. You cannot go down three one, go
into Boston for Game five and thinkyou're gonna win that one and get back
into the series. They needed totake one game at home, and they
did, and Harden put in anincredible performance for that. But can his
body keep up? Which after Gameone, I don't know if it was
(06:57):
physically he couldn't keep up. Idon't know if it was just how good
Boston was playing him. I don'tknow what the answer to that is.
But there's been enough issues so farwith Harden against Boston's guards that I would
think, moving forward and especially herefor the next three games, two of
(07:17):
which in Boston, that Boston mighthave an edge there. So it's great
to see Harden do that. Itwas amazing to see forty two points.
I'm gonna need him to not shooteighteen percent again, and I don't think
that's asking too much. In thesame way, I think we got to
(07:38):
ask more of Himbad. I thinkyou could ask more of of him considering
the bad fourth quarter. Now Iunderstand and Bead has some problems going on
right now. He has this brainedlcl is. Conditioning probably isn't up to
par, which his conditioning was alwaysquestioned, now even more because he doesn't
(08:01):
get the practice a lot, doesn'tget the move around a lot, And
now he just played forty six minutes. He played more minutes, and every
other player in that starting lineup otherthan James Harden Maxie played forty five.
Harris played forty five, Tucker thirtyone because he can't shoot a basketball,
(08:22):
and it was hardening in Beat hardenedwith forty seven minutes and beat forty six.
Can that keep up? When JaylenBrown? I know it's only a
few minutes, but just these thingsadd up to me. Marcus Smart played
forty two minutes, Jaylen Brown playedforty four minutes, brogged him thirty six,
(08:43):
Derek White thirty one, Jason Tatumwas the one who played forty seven.
But it really is just a coupleof guys against many and in Bead's
doing it on a knee that isn'tone hundred percent healthy. How Webver,
he has to do better than whathe did in the fourth quarter. That
(09:03):
was trying too hard, knowing thatyou were gassed and instead of figuring out
ways to maybe do more than justwhat you usually do and maybe end up
passing the ball more, whatever thecase may be, finding a way to
get it done. And just gotoutplayed in the fourth quarter by Al Horford
and pretty much was one of thebigger reasons why the Sixers blew that fourth
(09:28):
quarter league. But still it isgood to at least get embed It's eleven
to twenty six shooting, so it'snot great, but he got to the
free throw line. He got tothe free throw line fifteen of the twenty
two times for the Sixers, hemade twelve or fifteen of those, and
so he did have thirty four pointsand thirteen rebounds and the best assist of
(09:50):
the night with his pass to JamesHarden. But I am concerned about Embede
because of that knee, and Ithink we saw in the four quarter.
Now again, I could I coulddo it in a way of asking for
more of Embead I don't know howmuch you're gonna get I don't know how
much worse this is going to getbetter. It's going to get through again
(10:11):
a seven game series. He wasgassed. He was absolutely worn down by
the time the fourth quarter came around. What is it going to be like
in Game five? Is it goingto change it all? The one thing
I will say is good about theentire situation is that felt like the first
(10:35):
time in the Joe l embiad era. And I know we could probably point
back to some Jimmy Butler moments andI get it, but I always thought
the Sixers needed a more ball dominantguard that can move the offense around and
take control of the offense late ingames because Jimmy Butler's not a ball handler.
(11:01):
Jimmy Butler is a good scorer inthose moments, which was needed,
but I think the Sixers needed moreof a ball handler. It's why always
when the scenario of like what happensnext, and if there is a Damian
Lillard available and James Harden wants toget Houston, you want that because that
guy can handle the ball and alsoshoot. But James Harden at times in
(11:22):
this series has proven that he canlayton games, be that guy for the
Sixers, and I think even Gamefour it was even better knowing that Joel
Embiad was gassed and in those situationspreviously there has not been away for the
Sixers in the fourth quarter to getby, and now they do. Now
(11:45):
at least they did have that answer. It was great to see. It's
something that we've been asking for forso long with Joel Embiid. Give us
that, please give us that typeof player. And it looked like James
Harden for a little bit wasn't goingto be that guy. And he was,
and so that was good. Butagain, I feel like it's been
(12:07):
that way this entire series. SoGame one, I remember there were two
ESPN personalities laughing at the Sixers, laughing at James Harden, thinking that he
wasn't going to be able to getit done against the Celtics in Game one
and that the Sixers stood no chanceand this idea of Houston Harden was not
going to come to fruition. Okay, it does happen. He scores fifty,
they win the game, and theyrightfully both of those two people Monica
(12:31):
mcduntnam forgetting the other one both saiddo it again. The Sixers have a
problem, especially against Boston. Itseems like to be able to do it
again. Frankly, that game shouldhave not gone into overtime. Boston wanted
(12:52):
no parts of that game, andthe Sixers gave them a chance to steal
it, and Boston almost did.Luckily they didn't, but the sixth it
should have never gotten to that circumstancefor the six Ers. But now we
come to game five, after thatincredible performance by harden Shore and b could
(13:16):
probably play better. I imagine heis going to shoot better from the field
and it Beat's going to have abetter game, I know, saying better
than thirty four points, but betterefficiency wise, I think in game number
five, but also in that game, Maxie of fourteen Tobias only had nine.
(13:39):
If it isn't hard in having thisspectacular shooting night which he was sixteen
to twenty three and six ft ninefrom three with forty two points, and
joeln Be putting it thirty four points, doing a lot of damage from the
free throw line, if those twoaren't having other worldly nights, I haven't
seen enough from Maxie. I knowwe love Maxie here, but Maxie is
(14:05):
not good enough right now against Boston, and as this year is continues,
I think that's going to be feltmore. Tobias Harris has been awful and
yesterday was awful against Boston. Butinto the other guy in that starting lineup,
I cannot stand. We looked,we watched that fourth quarter and part
(14:28):
of the reason why I beat isa tougher time is because the Sixers are
playing four on five most of thetime. When PJ. Tuckers on the
floor for thirty one minutes. Duringthat time, Boston does not give a
bleep if he is on the floor, could not even care less what he's
doing. On the offensive ent.PJ Tucker can sit in the corner and
Boston, that guy covering him willbe just looking to find ways to get
(14:54):
in the lane, double team andbeat and leave Tucker completely alone. But
because grabbed the rebound and because hewas in Joel Ebid's ear that this is
like not that PJ Tucker was soneeded for the Sixers, when I'm sure
that money for PJ. Tucker couldhave gone into a player that would actually
make things a lot easier. Allof that to say, I think PJ
(15:16):
Tucker it's one it's already being talkedabout him getting it in Bead's ear,
one of the most overrated more momentsin Philadelphia sports history, already through one
day. Because the reason they gottenthat circumstance is because they don't have enough
depth and they have a guy whocan't shoot on a basketball floor in twenty
twenty three, he's a dud andhe's part of the big overall reason why
(15:41):
the Sixers don't have a chance.If it's not in Bed, if it's
not Hardened, It's definitely not gonnabe Maxie in this series against Boston because
he can't do well against Boston. It's not gonna be Tobias Harris. It's
not gonna be PJ. Tucker. It's not gonna be the Anthony Melton who
did who had no points in Gamenumber four, even again, I think
giving them decent defensive minutes and nigNiang was their best player off the bench,
(16:07):
Niang was their fourth best player.Niang shouldn't even be on the floor
in an NBA playoff game. Ilove what I'm seeing out of Harden and
Embeed, especially Hardened. I wantmaybe a little bit more out of Embed
that fourth quarter concerning, but Ithought he looked better in over time.
(16:33):
He made an awesome pass to Harden. Harden hit the three. Those two
have been great, but we knowImbed's knee injury is affecting him and the
fact that maybe his conditioning overall isaffecting him. And James Harden has been
the most inconsistent player in this playoffsoutside of maybe Anthony Davis. So heading
(16:57):
into Game five needed Game four. When they got it, it's impressive,
but they need to I think getan uncomfortable win. Game five is uncomfortable.
You just had that great Game four. You gotta hit the Boston.
Boston is not happy a little alittle bit, you know, po because
(17:18):
they just got beat When they maybecould have won a game and taken one
and got in this series of threeto one, they didn't get it.
So I imagine Boston's gonna come outpretty strong a Game five. Can you
win an uncomfortable game because if theygo down three two, I don't know
how they're going to react. Theycan make this a seven game series,
(17:40):
but I'm concerned about that. Thisgame is I think, I hate to
say needed, but this is apretty big game for the Sixers. And
I have almost a little faith thatthey can put together a game five because
of what I've seen overall through thisseries, and a lot of it has
to do with depth issues, buta lot of it has to do with
(18:00):
I think the two best players inthis team, I don't know what I'm
getting out of them. I lovethat we got Game four James Harden playing
great and Joel Embiid trying to dosomething and again fourth quarter need to be
better, but got it to thefree throw line fifteen times May twelve,
fifteen thirty four points is not badfor a player. But there's that again
(18:23):
voice in the back of my mindthat always happens with the Sixers. What
next and the question of can youdo it again? Tune into the line
