Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is WBZ Boston's news radio, redefining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Fifty seven degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon,
I'm Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. Mccaren reed murder retrial
is done for the day in Norfolk Superior Court. And
doctor Andrew Renchler, an engineer and crash expert with ARCA
who's secret, return to the stand tomorrow and could be
the defense's last witness. Renschler says he does not believe

(00:31):
John O'Keefe's injuries were from being hit by a car.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
When you look at the position and configuration of the occupant,
it really was impossible to get a skull fracture by
hitting the tail light and not sustain any other significant fraction.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Prosecution's expected to call witnesses in rebuttal to the defense's
case once Rentler he has done testifying. Of course, we'll
keep you updated right here on WBZ News Radio and
streaming on the iHeartRadio app. Well, maybe, just maybe the
thirtieth time is a charm and rolling out their thirtieth
coaching team history today. Some of those coaches had had

(01:03):
some pretty good success. Marco Sturm now that remains to
be seen. The one time Bruins player once coached the
German national team. He worked with the LA Kings and
coach their AHL affiliate. Sturham says his family's very happy
with his new position.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
I was by myself in LA for the last six
years because I was chasing my dream right and without
my family, I couldn't done it.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
A quick story.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
They've been bugging me for a while to get a
place in Boston.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
They always wanted.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
They grew up here, my kids grew up here.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
They always wanted to.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Come back, and here I am right now.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
They got there with Storm is now tasked with bringing
the Black and Gold back to prominence, or at least
back to the playoffs. California Governor Gavin Newsom asking a
federal judge to prevent more troops from coming to Los Angeles.
More from ABC's Alex Stone.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Governor Gavin Newshom has now filed an emergency motioned asking
a judge for an immediate ruling to block President Trump
from expanding the current mission of National Guard troops and
marines here in LA. He's alleging their duties are being
expanded and that troops will be used to help detain migrants.
The governor is alleging their mission has them engaging in
illegal civilian law enforcement. He wants a judge to tell

(02:12):
the president that he cannot do that. Alex STONEYBC News,
Los Angeles a.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Sharp exchange out of the gate. In Defense Secretary Pete
Hegsas testimony before a House committee over the deployment of
National Guard troops in LA.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Democratic Minnesota Representative Betty McCollum compared the immigration protest in
LA to those held in Minneapolis after the police killing
of George Floyd. This looks nothing like the George Floyd
protests for the Rodney King riots on Los Angeles. Defense
Secretary Pete Hexas says the National Guard there was called
in far too late.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
The police precinct ma'am was abandoned and burned to the ground.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Hexcess says the nation ought to be able to enforce
immigration law. Allison Key, CBS News, Washington.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Senator Elizabeth Warren introducing legislation to protect transgender service members.
The senator said the fit to Serve bill would ban
the Trump administration from discriminating against transgender people in the
military and enhance national security. As a Trump signed an
executive order banning transgender service members in January. Senator Warren
says it undermines our military's readiness. The legislation is backed

(03:16):
by several other Democrats throughout the Senate and the House.
Dealing with some rain, although it really depends where you
are is to how much rain you are seeing. The
heaviest stuff has been south Boston, off toward the south coast,
over the Cape and the islands, and that's pretty much
still where we're at. We have some rain sneaking into
the Boston area right now, but this is not the

(03:37):
real heavy stuff. This is just kind of annoying put
up an umbrella stuff. There is a pretty heavy line
that stretches from Falmouth out into parts of the ocean,
but it is pushing off toward the main Cape, so
the peninsula could get under some more heavy rain again.
Mash b Hyannis, Harwich, back and down the hatches. There

(03:57):
is a bit of a storm coming and this will
continue to push off to the north and east for
several more hours before eventually we get out of this
and clear out the skies. Late tonight, Boston north and west.
Probably most of any heavy rain is over, just some
annoyances as we go through the evening, mostly sunny. Tomorrow
we warm it up, how about eighty two, with some

(04:17):
haze around due to that wildfire smoke from Canada. On Thursday,
we'll have another warm day, mid eighties, hazy sunshine, a
gusty breeze, and then not as warm on Friday seventy four,
mix of sun and clouds, A couple of showers get
back in here Friday night, which is of course good
news on the drought front, which we've already been seeing
from state officials. Drought conditions getting better. Wbz's Brook McCarthy explains.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Rout conditions are improving in Massachusetts. The entire state, except
for the Cape and Islands, is now at normal levels. However,
the Islands region remains at a level one mild drought,
well the Cape is at a level two significant drought.
State officials say recent rain has provided some relief, but
more precipitation is still needed to restore ground water levels
some parts of the state. Energy and Environmental Affair Secretary

(05:03):
Rebecca Tepper says the warm weather is here, and with
planting season in full swing, people should still be mindful
of how much water they're using. To help with these
groundwater levels. Residents on the Capan Islands are still encouraged
to minimize overall water use, limit outdoor watering to one
time per week, and fix indoor leaks. Burke McCarthy WBZ
Boston Snooze Radio.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
A popular podcast host with local ties, is out with
some explosive allegations about her time at BU wbz's Jaba
Letwick details.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
I felt so deeply uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
That's part of the teas from the new Hulu documentary
Call Her Alex. It profiles Alex Cooper, the host of
the wildly popular Call Her Daddy podcast, and her time
at Boston University where she played women's soccer, and she's
accusing former BU women's soccer head coach Nancy Feldman of
sexual harassment that lasted for several years.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Should pull me in, Just be staring at me, sit
next to me on the couch, put her hand on
my thigh.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Feldman is one of the more storied women coaches in
Division one. She spent twenty seven years coaching in the
program before retiring in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
It was this psychotic game of you want to play
tell me about your sex life?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
The new documentary debuts today on Hulu. WBZ News Radio
has reached out to Boston University for comment. Jay Willett,
