Sixty five degrees in Boston, mostly cloudy. At eleven o'clock.
You have made it to Friday. Thanks for being here
with us. I'm Nicole Davis saying, here's what's happening. Closing
arguments are underway right now in the Karen Reid murder
reed trial. The defense attorney Alan Jackson delivering their argument
right now. There is no evidence that John was hit
(00:31):
by a car.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
None how much more reasonable doubt could there be.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Reid is accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police officer
John o'keef with her SUV and then leaving him for
dead in the snow in Canton. The prosecution giving their arguments,
next jury instructions after that, and then it's off to
the jury for deliberations. WZ Suzanne Soasville back with us
at eleven fifteen. At eleven oh one, in the Middle East,
(00:58):
Israel striking I Ron'snoop ballistic missile sites, leading to responding
drone attacks from Iran. President Trump reacting to this. Now
here's ABC's Karen Travers.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
President Trump and his social media post early Friday morning
is urging Iranian officials to reach an agreement on a
nuclear deal with the United States, the President suggesting the
drawn out negotiations are what led Israel to launch its
overnight strike. Before the Israeli attacks, President Trump signaled he
was committed to a diplomatic resolution with Iran and warned
that action by Israel could potentially derail negotiations. Karen Travers
(01:33):
ABC News Washington Now.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
The AP is reporting the US is shifting military resources
in the region in response to these attacks. The Navy
directing a destroyer to move from the Western Mediterranean toward
the Eastern Mediterranean so a second destroyer can move forward
in case it's needed. Oil prices are rising as well
stocks are dropping in the wake of this development. A
(01:55):
New Hampshire man is facing several charges after a crash
that left two children fighting for their lives. Manchester Police
say yesterday around four o'clock they were called to Lake
Avenue in Belmont Street, but then a few minutes later
they were called to a crash at Belmont and Hanover Streets.
They say a Silver Volvo was involved in both incidents.
The driver, identified as Justin Leclair, was found walking away
(02:16):
from the scene. He was taken into custody, set to
be a rained today on charges of d w I,
reckless conduct and conduct after an accident. Now, President Trump
is still in charge of the California National Guard for
the time being. A US District judge ruling last night
that the president illegally deployed four thousand National Guard troops
in LA to quell immigration raid protests, but the judge's
(02:38):
order to relinquish control of those troops back to California
has been put on hold. Here's ABC's Matt Rivers breaking.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
It down in a scathing opinion, Judge Charles Bryer saying
the protests fall far short of the legal requirements of
a rebellion to justify a federal deployment. The judge ordering
Trump to return command of the guardsmen to Governor Gavin
Newsom by noon today, saying the citizens of Los Angeles
face a greater harm from the continued unlawful militarization of
(03:06):
their city. But then just a few hours later, a
federal appeals court putting that order on hold, ruling Trump
can keep the California National Guard deployed for now.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
An appeals court hearing about the matter is set for
next Tuesday. Taking a look at the forecast for the weekend.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yeah,
we've got more rain this weekend. Thirteen weekends in a row,
believe it or not. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though.
We'll start with the rest of the afternoon today, and
it will be cloudy for sure out there. We had
some showers earlier, but it looks like those have dried
(03:38):
up and moved out, So that's a plus. Temperatures in
the mid upper sixties and low seventies, and it looks
like that's about where we're going to be today, in
the low seventies for a high. For tonight, mostly cloudy
with a couple of showers arriving late and a low
in the upper fifties. Now for tomorrow, again, yes we
have those showers during the morning and midday hours. We
have behind year sixty two. Father's Day will be cool
(04:00):
and cloudy and we will only get up into about
the mid sixties tops, but you know, it will be
dry for the most part, So that's a plus. Monday,
mostly cloudy and a high in the mid to upper sixties.
Right now, our temperature seventy one in Attleborough sixty five.
It looks like right now in Leminster where it's sixty two,
at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, and in Boston at
(04:21):
eleven oh five it is mostly cloudy and sixty six.
Well again, it is Father's Day on Sunday, and of
course it's all about what Dad wants and the time
with him. But when you got to get him at present,
what do you really want to get him? It's hard
to choose. WBC's dream o'holland went to go find out
what they want.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
All right, here comes Father's Day and talking to a
bunch of dads here we're in Salem, Massachusetts.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Jim, what do you want for Father's Day?
Speaker 5 (04:45):
I want a peaceful day and a day of golf?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
All right?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
You got a tea timer working on it? Can watch
the US Open at least?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Right, definitely? And you how about you?
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Where you from Beverly?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
What do you want for Father's Day? I'd like to.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Spend Father's Day with my family and watch the US
Open with a sun all right?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Very good.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
It's a lot of golf action.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
How many kids too? You three?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
And it's just it's been an unbelievable ride unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Love them all, wouldn't change a thing.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Love it from Salem, Drew Mahall and WBZ bost this
News radio Well.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Starting today, baseball fans will have their eyes on Fenway.
The Yankees are in town for a series. Hundreds of employees,
though who work the concession stands at Fenway Park and
at the MGM Music Hall Fenway, will be spending the
weekend voting on a potential strike. See the workers contract
with Ara Mark expired last year. Union Unite Here Local
twenty six says they're still far apart when it comes
(05:32):
to a new agreement. The union says concession workers make
under twenty bucks an hour and many have been working
for decades without a raise that meets the hike of
the cost of living in Boston. Kelly and Gary DiStefano
of Haverol got an experience of a lifetime while they
were on their honeymoon in Europe, meeting Pope Leo while
wearing a Chicago White Sox hat.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
The couple had always hoped that their honeymoon might include
a glimpse of the Pope. When Pope Princes passed away
about a month before their wedding, they were crushed. They
couldn't have dreamed up the blessing literally that was still
to come.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
And then it was the first American pope. We were
lucky enough to actually get tickets and get seating for
thisposing the valley and personally got to meet the pope.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
The husband and wife say their new prize possession is
going straight into a case to be passed on to
their grandchildren.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
If one thing brings the country together, it's sports. So
whether we're Red Sox fans, he's a Chicago fan and
he has a difficult job. So if you bring laughter
into somebody's life, that little bit, even in his position,
what more can you ask for?
Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's true. CBS News Boston's Julie McDonald with that update,
You are now in the loop for news updates throughout
the day. Listened to WBZ Radio on the iHeartRadio app,
