Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is w b Z, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.
Thirty nine degrees in Boston, the wind from the west
at twenty five miles an hour, gusting up to forty.
You do the math. It feels more like the mid
twenties out there. It's sunny, though, so that helps. It's
eleven o'clock. Good morning. I'm Nicole Davis. Here is what's

(00:24):
happening starting on the South Shore where moments ago the
final pre trial hearing in the Brian Walsh case wrapped up.
The Cohacit man is accused of killing his wife Anna
almost three years ago, dismembering her body, and then disposing
of it. Her body still has not been found. The
prosecutors say he also allegedly misled police during the investigation.
Now Whilesh spent several weeks at Bridgewater State Hospital. In

(00:47):
just last week, he was ruled competent to stand trial.
Jerry's selection starts tomorrow could last up to two weeks.
The trial is set to start December first, at eleven
oh one and about face now from President Trump, who
is incouraging House Republicans to vote to release the Epstein files.
A vote is expected tomorrow, as we hear from ABC's
Allison Kosek Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Congressman Thomas Massey, the lead Republican co sponsor of the bill,
says he expects strong GOP support, saying lawmakers must choose
between the political protection of the president and the expectations
of their constituents.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
You will have voted to protect pedophiles if you don't
vote to release these files.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
If this vote passes in the House, it would still
need to clear the Senate, and Trump is unlikely to
sign it.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Congressman Massi says.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
He's hoping to get a veto proof majority on the
legislation when the House votes.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Meantime, when the government shutdown is now over and it's
back to normal for many airports around the country, your
CBS's Jesse Mitchell.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Flight schedules in US airports began returning to normal over
the weekend as the FAA east flight restrictions it had
previously imposed because of the government shutdown. Starting today, airlines
will no longer be required to reduce flights in and
out of forty major US airports. Shutdown related flight restrictions
contributed to thousands of cancelations and delays in the past week,

(02:08):
the worst day being last Sunday, when nearly three thousand
flights were canceled.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Now here in Boston over the weekend. On Saturday, Secretary
of Homeland Security Christy Nome was at Logan giving TSA
workers ten thousand dollars bonuses for their perfect attendance during
the shutdown. Now, TRIPAA says we're on the verge of
a record breaking holiday travel season. Here's ABC's GEO Benitez
with more on that.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
They expect nearly eighty two million Americans to travel this
holiday period. That's actually one point six million more than
last year. You remember that was record breaking. This is
a new record now. So no matter how you're planning
to travel, it's a really good idea to schedule that
travel for early in the morning. That way you can
avoid a lot of the hassle later on.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Now, out of the almost eighty two million Americans expected
to travel for Turkey Day, more than six million are
expected to fly. That, by the way, is up by
about two percent from last year, and that means the
rest of us are stuck on the roads and we're
looking at a couple of flurries in the berkshars when
it comes to the forecast, though, those should start to
clear up. Otherwise we're looking okay, just some clouds out there.

(03:13):
The big weather story of the day today is once
again the wind. Seems like for the past couple of
weeks it's just been super blustery out there, and today
is certainly no exception. Right now, it's blowing from the
west at about twenty thirty miles an hour from many
of us and gusting up to about forty. So you
add that to the chilly temperatures that are struggling to
leave the thirties. Most of us have a wind chill

(03:33):
right now of about twenty five to thirty and it's
going to stay that way for the rest of the afternoon.
Then for tonight, clear and breezy, low just about freezing
in Boston, upper twenties Inland. For tomorrow, mostly sunny, windy again,
a high in the mid forties. Again, could feel a
bit cooler than that Wednesday and Thursday, mix of sun
and clouds, and we've got a high in the mid forties.

(03:54):
Could have a bit of rain on Friday. Right now,
it's thirty seven degrees in dan Verse, thirty five in
all Burn. We're thirty nine in Wareham. In Boston. Right now,
at eleven oh five it is thirty nine degrees, but
again with that wind from the west northwest at twenty
one miles an hour gusting to thirty five, it feels
more like twenty four outside.

Speaker 7 (04:15):
Well.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
This is Transgender Awareness Week and for the first time,
a flag display is up on Boston Common. Your wbz's
Hyle Shaffle, It's an important.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Week for trans people in the US. Transgender Awareness Week.
The local community is putting up a flag display in
Boston Common for extra visibility.

Speaker 7 (04:30):
Not only that trans people are here and we exist,
but we are under attack and are losing our lives.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Several hundred of the mini flags are waving on the Common,
each one representing a transperson lost to violence in the
last couple of years. Jack is with a Queer neighborhood council.

Speaker 7 (04:47):
This event is more for the public and not just
for the trans community. It's to help bring awareness.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Celebrations culminate with Trans Day visibility on Thursday. Activists here
see the trumpet iministration's focus on excluding them from society
makes us display all the more salient.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
People need to know that we're here, We're not going anywhere,
and we're humans just as much as anybody else.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Kyle Schaffel, the w busy Boston's news radio.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
All right, eleven oh six, This just Dso the WBZ newsroom.
A lawyer representing the nine Allston car wash employees recently
detained by ICE tell WBZ News Radio two of those
workers are expected to be free today. Attorney Todd Palmerlowe
says two of the workers were granted bond by a
federal judge this morning after being denied bond by an

(05:32):
immigration court. Parmerlow maintains ICE did not have a criminal
warrant or even a civil ICE detainer when the arrests
were made. He calls their detainment unconstitutional. Now in a statement,
Homeland Security maintains all nine were in the country illegally
and says the arrests came through law enforcement intelligence, not
by a quote silly rumor. That rumor appears to be

(05:53):
a reference to the Boston University student who bragged on
social media recently that he had reported that car wash
and its workers to ICE numerous times. And before we
take a look at business, a player for the New
York Jets is in critical condition after a weekend shooting.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
The NYPD says officers found a twenty nine year old
man shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning in midtown. Manhattan.
Mayor Eric Adams later confirmed Jets cornerback Chris Boyd as
a victim. A statement from the Jets said they were
aware of the situation involving Boyd, but had no further comment.
Sources have told CBS News New York the shooting followed
a verbal dispute that escalated. Jennifer Kuiper, CBS News.

Speaker 1 (06:32):

the day. Listen to WBZ Radio on the iHeartRadio app.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
