can feel it. There's a change in the air six
o'clock on this Monday morning, and we're waking up to
a gorgeous sunrise in progress. It is already forty one
degrees and it gets a whole lot better from here.

(00:21):
The News at six is brought to us by your
new England Toyota Dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters.
Welcome aboard and thanks for starting your work week with us.
I'm Jeff Brown. This is more like it, more sun
than clouds. Today will be breezy at much more than
Greece of days with Eisenan at sixty is WBZ achi
weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. Cloudy and windy though once again

(00:42):
by midweek and now the Celtics wait. It'll be this
weekend before the NBA playoffs begin. The Celtics will learn
later this week who they will take on. It's the
winner of the Atlanta Orlando play in game. Bruins last
game is tomorrow night with the Devils at the Garden.
They'll wrap up the regular season. No playoffs for the
Bees this year. Red Sox will head South they'll open

(01:02):
a three game series with the Rays and Tampa tonight,
and a masterpiece for Rory McElroy, who finally joins Golf's
Grand Slam Club with a playoff win at the Masters Tournaments.
The test results are in and President Trump is deemed
fully fit to carry out the job as commander in chief.
A doctor's physical exam reveals nothing much new, but confirms

(01:24):
mister Trump continues to deal with high cholesterol and has
been treated for symptoms of diverticulosis, cataracts, and skin damage
from constant sun exposure. Mister Trump, the oldest American president
to start a second term in office, also has a
benign colon pollop. Overall, the White House says he is,
though in excellent health. White House clarifies its latest tariff

(01:48):
policy days after the President carves out an exemption to smartphones, laptops,
and other electronics from China. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik this
weekend tells ABC News the exception is temporary. The President
plans to introduce new import tax rates this week on
those products, and says on his truth social account the
new levies will be moved to a new tariff bucket

(02:09):
and that the whole electronic supply chain will be under review.
According to the latest survey, Americans are not feeling all
that liberated following President Trump's Liberation Day and the introduction
of sweeping global tariffs. The new CBS News you gov
survey reveals three quarters of Americans say taxes on imports
will raise prices. A deeper dive finds almost half of

(02:32):
all American adults feel the President's policies will make them
financially worse off in the long run. That is even
more compared to a similar poll conducted just last month. Interestingly,
less than one third of Americans actually know how tariffs work.
Another day of jury selection is on deck and the
Karen Reid case.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Outside the courthouse last week. Karen Reid did tell reporters
he expects opening statements to start on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
I'm anxious, and it's in God's hands and we're we're
fighting and working as hard as we can, So what
else can we do?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
This past week, the US Supreme Court declined to halt
the retrial. Later this month, judges will weigh weather to
take up Reed's bid for drop charges. Her attorneys argue
it's a violation of double jeopardy. Lower courts have disagreed.
Karen Reid is accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police
officer John I'll keep with her car and leaving him
for dead in the snow. In January twenty twenty two,
Reid says she's being framed. I'm a freedman. W BZ,

(03:23):
Boston's news radio.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Also, a federal judge rules that a court ordered buffer
zone to keep supporters of reed back will remain in place.
The protesters say that's a violation of their First Amendment rights.
It's a beautiful start to the day, and we certainly
can use all the help we can get after this week.
What a delightful weekend when you think about it too. Today,
much different story. It's clear skies at sunrise in Boston

(03:46):
forty one degrees. We are going to be headed into
the mid sixties. That's right, mid sixties today looking good.
Plenty of sunshine from start to finish. Might see a
few puffy clouds, but otherwise this is a thumbs up,
all systems go kind of day. Spring has sprung because
the sixties will be with us again tomorrow, although it'll
be more cloudy than sun tomorrow. Tempts in the lower

(04:08):
sixties will take it. On Wednesday, looks like it's going
to be a bit of a touch and go day
with windy conditions and cloudy skies for the most part,
high temperatures in the upper forties to low fifties, and
we make us like rebound as we head towards the
end of this week. Now, I realized that the weekend
is still a mile away, but there's some chatter that
we might be in the seventies this weekend. Right now,

(04:30):
it's forty one and clear skies at six oh five
on this Monday morning tomorrow. By the way, I don't
mean to be a Debbie downer or a buzzkill, but
it's tax Day in America, and unlike almost any other year,
Massachusetts is not catching a break this time around. Wbz's
Drew mo'holland is here to explain why. Good morning, Andrew,
Good morning Jeffrey.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I would like to mention when news talked about sixties
and seventies, there was a I know our microphones are off,
but LORI and I both were saying, oh, how lovely.
I can't wait for that after the weekend. Ugly stuff,
But anyway, The Patriots Day holiday normally falls on either
April fifteenth, or close enough to warrant the tax day
extension on filing those federal and state returns. But not

(05:09):
so fast, my friend, not this time around. Patriots Day
and the running of the Boston Marathon remain one week away.
The holiday always falls on the third Monday in April.
We know that around here, making the April twenty first
date this year the latest it can arrive. One of
my favorite times of year.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Not the text Day. I was gonna say, I feel
jipped on that.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
The marathon.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, marathon, And I will say long term forecast again.
I realize it's long term and things can happen. Looks
like it's going to be okay. I like the Monday.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I like the optimism you've brought to the table here.
This is a good way to start the week.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
It's a new me. Thank you, Drew saved by the bell.
The Social Security Administration will continue to allow those who
receive retirement, survivor or disability benefits to continue to file
applications over the phone. It's been a whirlwind few weeks
for some seventy million Americans who thought they'd have to
truck themselves to a physical location in the future, while

(06:02):
the agency's website crashes repeatedly of late, preventing recipients from
accessing their accounts. The restriction on phone services was to
have begun today, but now won't. The phones will still ring.
The question remains, will anyone be there to answer them?
The stars are headed to the stars. A Blue Origin
rocket is expected to lift off a liftoff at nine

(06:23):
thirty Eastern Time from Texas this morning with an all
female crew including CBS Mornings Gail King, music superstar Katie Perry,
and Laurence Sanchez, the fiance of Amazon's Jeff Bezos.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Pop star Katy Perry has been mum on whether she'll
hit a few notes in zero gravity.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Hey, it still be the first pop star in space
and not have to perform.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
For other crew members like activist and sexual assault survivor
Amanda Wynn. The trip is about doing the impossible.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
But I also want other women, other survivors, or anyone
who's ever had a dream deferred to know that your
dreams matter. The new Shepherd flight, with six on board,
will carry those passengers more than sixty miles high in
a flight that will last just ten minutes, but with
memories lasting a lifetime. You are now in the loop
for news updates throughout the day. Listen to WBZ News
