Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. Six
o'clock happens very quickly, doesn't it. Good morning. It is
exactly six here in Boston on this Thursday morning, and
what do you know, we're looking at another sunrise here
in the city. It is already sixty seven degrees. The

(00:23):
News at six brought to us by your New England
Toyota Dealer, your Hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. Thanks for
being with us this morning. I'm Jeff Brown. As Boston plays.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
The hits one again today, we'll have hazy sunshine and
gusty breeze. We'll top at it eighty six degrees.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
That is WBZ AKI Weather meteorologist heather' zaire will get
in another nice day tomorrow before the wheels fall off
this weekend, so all of a sudden, the Red Sox
seem to be hot. They win another series. They take
two of three against the Tampa Bay Rays. Red Sox
are off today. Yankees are in town this weekend. The
Pacers get the mojo in Game three of the NBA Finals.

(01:00):
It's a win over Oklahoma City and it puts Indiana
up two games to one. Golf's third major tournament begins
this morning, with tea times beginning within the hour. The
US Open gets underway at Oakmont Country Club, which is
just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Happening right now, an Air India
passenger jet with two hundred and forty two on board

(01:21):
and destined for London's Gatwick Airport crashes shortly after takeoff
in India. This is a Boeing seven eighty seven headed
to Gatwick Airport. According to the Aviation Safety Network Database,
this is the first ever crash of a Boeing seven
eighty seven. No word on a cause or any survivors
as of yet. Well. Today will be a bittersweet day

(01:43):
from Mike Love of the Beach Boys, as he is
officially going to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of
Fame tonight, joining his cousin, the late Brian Wilson, the
co founder of the group, who was inducted twenty five
years ago and died just this week. It's also another
big day in what's become a big year for the
Doobie Brothers. The supergroup which features Michael McDonald, is out

(02:05):
with a new album and tonight will be inducted as well.
The class of twenty five also includes R and B
funk Master George Clinton, established back in nineteen sixty nine.
The Songwriter's Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place at
the Marriott Marquee Hotel in New York City. Tonight, we've
hit another milestone on Earth's snual rotation around the sun.
Today is the earliest sunrise in Boston. It arrived at

(02:28):
five oh six. Sunrise will be the same time for
the next week in one of springtime's last gaps as
the season gives way to the summer solstice, which is
a week from tomorrow. It's all in a run up,
of course, to the longest day of the year, in
the latest sunset of the year, which in Boston arrives
on June twenty fourth. So let's review this morning. We've

(02:49):
learned that stress can keep us up at night, and
now we learn that stress actually wakes us up in
the morning. Do we get any relief ever? Wbz's Drew
moholland is here with the details of a new studying
Good morning, Jeff.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
You know what else wakes me up in the morning?
My dog. Yeah, it's really take it over. The bell
happening pushing me out of the way, But new research
finds there's no escape from life's pressures at school, work,
even the news, and there's often a pit in our
stomachs before our feet even hit the floor. It is
called morning anxiety, though it's not a clinical diagnosis for many.
Oh it's oh so real. Early birds feet on the

(03:21):
stress warm in the morning, while night owls are consumed
long after sundown.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
It is a very complex thing. Yeah, and it's happens
pretty much. Let's just go with all day long. Yeah,
all day got anxiety. The hits just keep on coming.
Here we go, all right, truth, thank you. No, we're
going to string together at least a couple of good
days of weather here in Greater Boston. It's a nice
sunrise Underway sixty seven already in the city. Feels like
it's summertime, and it certainly will throughout the day today.

(03:48):
There will be a breeze out of the southwest, which
will keep us nice and toasty, but will attempt to
cool us off throughout the day as temperatures are going
to jump well into the eighties and perhaps very close
to ninety degrees where you are. This sounds familiar. This
happened one week ago, and the pattern continues. We're going
to see this type of weather tomorrow, although it be
slightly cooler in the mid seventies. We'll take it though

(04:09):
a mix of sun and clouds. And once again, this
will be the thirteenth consecutive weekend that we're going to
be dealing with precipitation, and it looks like we'll see
some rain and cool temperatures only in the sixties for
Father's Day weekend. From start to finish, it looks like
we could be dodging rain drops on both days as well.
With that wind off the water, it'll keep temperatures in check.

(04:30):
But right now it's simply stunning in Boston, sixty seven degrees.
As we get ready on this Thursday morning, it is
six oh five. The jury gets the day off as
lawyers in the Karen Reid trial prep for their closing arguments.
CBS News Boston's Christina Rex has been following this case
and has more on a heated final day of testimony.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Real tension came during an extended cross examination. We're prosecutor
Hank Brennan tried to challenge doctor Renchler with other pieces
of evidence like Okeef's hat or a broken drinking glass
found in the snow.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
I guess you could somehow predict or have a possibility
of almost anything happening. To say, someone could get hit
by a car and do a couple of somersaults into
the yard.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
You don't know the position of mister o'keith's arm that
impact to you.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Nobody knows that. I don't think his arm was even
impacted by the car.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
So the way the defense rested was a little bit confusing,
So let's just explain it quickly. The defense rested its case.
No more witnesses than the judges and lawyer will meet
without the jury to discuss jury instructions.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Then on Friday we'll.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Hear closing arguments. And with that schedule, it is entirely
possible the jury gets the case by this weekend. And
remember when a verdict is reached in the Karen Reid

of this weekend's massive military parade. Several streets in Washington,
d C. On or near the parade route will be
shut down starting today and in some cases will last
right through Monday. The celebration is set for Flag Day,
coming up on Saturday. It commemorates the founding of the
US Army two hundred and fifty years ago. It is
also President Trump's seventy ninth birthday. Moving vans could soon

(06:16):
be headed to the FBI. Top officials are quietly talking
about relocating the bureau's elite training academy at Quantico, Virginia,
to Huntsville, Alabama. This would be part of the President's
effort to shrink the footprint of the federal government. The
FBI won't get into specifics about this possible move, but
will only say it's looking at a number of proposals

(06:37):
to optimize its facilities in the interest of cost effectiveness.

the day. Listen to WBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app.
