Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio. We defining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Good morning, It's Tuesday already here in Boston, six o'clock
and we're getting started under cloudy skies once again.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Today.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It is a relatively mild fifty two degrees. Welcome aboard
this morning. I'm Jeff Brown. And that didn't last long, did.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's clouds and a few sunny breaks.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Today it'll be reazy and mildness after do the high
sixty four at is WBZ achi weather meteorologist Joe Lumberg.
Maybe a late day thunderstorm as well. Good morning, fellow
taxpayers of America. Today is IRS tax filing deadline midnight tonight.
Not to mention it's deadline day for state tax returns
in Massachusetts as well. An analysis of the audit rate

(00:48):
at the agency reveals that it's lower than it's been
at any time in our lifetimes. The New York Times reports,
with drastic cuts to the agency's workforce, your chances of
being audited likely be down even further this year. Fewer
than half of one percent of all taxpayers go under
further review. According to the IRS, the average federal refund

(01:09):
check to Massachusetts taxpayers will be more than thirty three
hundred dollars this year. He regrets to inform you President
Trump will not be attending this year's White House Correspondence dinner.
Axios reports this morning rumor becomes reality from the Oval Office.
His absence during the April twenty sixth event was a
pretty sure bet too, since mister Trump did not attend

(01:29):
any of the dinners during his first term. He has
been the butt of jokes at these events before, like
back when Barack Obama was president.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
We can finally get back to focusing on the issues
that matter.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Did we take the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell?
And where are BIGI n Tupac?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
The White House is floating an idea to host to
competing dinner on the same night, potentially to celebrate First
Lady Milania Trump's fifty fifth birthday. Boston Strong. Today is
One Boston Day.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
I'm standing near the Boston Marathon finish line where, twelve
years ago today a terrorist attack killed three people and
injured hundreds. In the face of tragedy, the city came
together and continues to do so. On this One Boston Day,
celebrated annually. One Boston Day honors the victims and recognizes
the city's resiliency, generosity, and strength. Mayor Michelle wu is
encouraging Bostonians to participate in service, and a reflaying ceremony

(02:23):
is set for ten am at the Boylston Street Boston
Marathon Memorials from Boylston Street. I'm Jared Brosnan w BZ
Boston Snows Radio, and.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
This is the last game of the year for the Bruins. Tonight,
capping a pretty disappointing season, they host the Devils at
the Garden. The Celtics will learn who they'll take on
in the NBA Playoffs this weekend. They get the winner
of tonight's Atlanta Orlando play in game, and the SS
Red Sox are sinking fast. Wbz's Drew mo'holland tells us

(02:51):
panic is setting in already.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I think so you it's April. I don't know. It's
not good.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Claubord by the Rais in Tampa, Jeff. The Socks will
try again tonight.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Wait minute, they're gonna try.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
They're gonna try again tonight.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah try tonight.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Good call out. Let me paint the picture for you here.
Maybe you were like me doing some other things. Settling
in a little late for the game last night. Okay,
it was already over fourteen one after three innings. Sixteen
won the final, and unhappy manager Alex cor.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
There was a team that was prepared for the other
one and the one wasn't prepared for them. I'll take
the blame, you know, because it seemed like our team
wasn't ready to go.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Not ready to go does not sound good.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah, no, not at all it. Technically it was over
now the first pitch of the game. Ye if you
want to be specific.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
Pittard Tanner Hawk gave up a home run two innings
j just eleven runs.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, his two plus innings of work was the worst
Red Sox start in history.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
And you'd think panic is still it?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Okay, you can only go up from here. Get up
under cloudy skies this morning. It is fifty two degrees.
You know, it would be nice as if we could
string a couple of days like yesterday together, but that's
not in the cards for us this time around. I'm
afraid looks like we're going to see some breaks of
sun today, but this is a mostly cloudy day and
a couple of showers. We'll be hanging around throughout the
daylight hours, especially late this afternoon when we could see

(04:03):
and experience some thunderstorms moving through the area. Nonetheless, this
is a mild day. Temperatures once again will be in
the mid sixties overnight tonight patche clouds back down to
around forty. Tomorrow looks like it's going to be the
coldest day this work weekend into the weekend, with a
daytime highs tomorrow only approaching fifty. It's going to be
windy with limited sunshine tomorrow as well, more sun on Thursday,

(04:25):
a little bit milder. We're back in the sixties on Friday,
and we're reasonably targeting seventy degrees as we kick off
the weekend on Saturday. Right now, cloudy skies and fifty
two degrees here in Boston on this Tuesday morning, it's.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Six oh five. Night Owls might be in for retreat
coming up tonight.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
This Space Weather Predictions Center is expecting a pair of
solar eruptions tonight headed for Earth and it could produce
a geomagnetic storm strong enough to produce the Northern Lights,
and we could get a chance to see it here
in New England, including parts of Massachusetts. Now, of course,
it all depends on the cloud cover and weather. Best
chance this is most likely between ten pm tonight and

(05:02):
two am tomorrow morning, but start looking around eight o'clock.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Remember to take some pictures.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
With your phone, even if you can't see it by
I are amazing. Phone camera technology sometimes can catch the
elusive Aurora Boreellis when our eyes can't. Jim ACKAWBZ, Boston's
news radio, and the stars truly due align these days.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
A sunrise treat for skywatchers is underway all this week.
When you can see it, the three planets are lining
up in the eastern horizon. Venus, Mercury, Saturn will all
appear as if they're right next to each other, but
we all know they are separated by vast distances. Best
time to view them just before six o'clock in the morning.
Still no closer to opening statements in the Karen Reid

(05:42):
case in Norfolk Superior Court. Twelve jurors and four alternates
are already seated, but Judge Beverly Canone still wants two
more on the panel. Meantime, prosecutors tell the court they
plan to use Reid's own words against her during the
murder retrial. The forty five year old Read has given
extensive interviews to TV stations, magazines, and several documentaries have

(06:03):
been produced since her first trial ended in a hung
jury last summer. New research suggest middle aged and older
adults whose use of pot sent them to an emergency
room or to the hospital for treatment are now twice
as likely to develop dementia down the road compared to
those in the general population. The report in this week's
medical journal Jamma Neurology also finds when compared to other

(06:25):
medical visits among the same age the risk of dementia
is nearly one quarter higher. The study, conducted by scientists
in Canada, looked at the health of some six million patients.
America's Rivers ranked American Rivers reviewsed nominations for its most
Endangered lists from people and organizations nationwide at number one.
The Mississippi River. The group says it is threatened by

(06:48):
FEMA's uncertain future and rolland guiding floodplain protections. Heather Taylor
Measley is with American Rivers.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
So on the Mississippi River, they're talking about FEMA. How
do we not just respond to disasters but get communities
ready for disasters prior, how do we let the river
have the space to flood?

Speaker 5 (07:05):
At Number two, the Tijuana River, which the group says
is threatened by out of control sewage and chemical pollution.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Matt Piper, CBS News.
