Speaker 3 (02:34):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
That's it, and who you are obviously, because that's going
to need to happen. Well, Texas football is back at
it this week after a week of rest and recovery.
The Texas Longhorns have moved up to number ten in
the latest poll. But the real polls come out tomorrow
and what I mean by that the playoff ranking polls,

(02:55):
then you will know exactly where they are.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
But Texas is.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Number ten, a five and a half point dog at Georgia,
who is number five.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
That game will.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Kick off at six point thirty right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred. The Zone pregame show will start
at three point thirty at Bolden Acres, South Lamar, So
make sure you get out there and come and see
the Fellas as we get ready for a big time
matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. Mark, there were some exciting

(03:27):
games this past weekend. We'll talk about those at the
top of our number two. Because we're here from We're
going to talk about a lot of those games. But
the fact of the matter is this Texas is in
a position now that we had hoped they would be.
If you start to look at what's going on with
this team and where they are in contrast to where

(03:50):
other teams are, they still have everything in front of them.
You talked about this, you said it earlier in the year.
You were looking at it after the lost of Florida
and some close close finishes against Kentucky and Mississippi State.
But now the real challenge begins. You're going up against
a team and the Georgia Bulldogs. By the way, SEC

(04:12):
Nation will be there in Athens as well, so there's
a lot of folks making that trip to Georgia. But
the fact still remains this Texas still has everything.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
That they're playing for right in front of them.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
You have three teams that they can win again, Georgia, Arkansas,
and A and M. Georgia and A and M both ranked
in the top five. And I mean you win that,
you automatically become number one. Texas will go from number
one to out of the top twenty five back to

(04:45):
number one again. And that's that would be really really
cool story to tell. But you got to look at
also when I when I when Texas lost to Florida.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Everybody got doom and gloom and said there was the hope.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
But you look at what Mississippi State and what Vanderbilt
and Mississippi State has done since Texas beat them. Those
teams have lit fire. They they've won big games. I mean,
Mississippi State just recently beat Florida.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
H Vanderbilt had.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
A real solid win against South Carolina, and I mean,
so everybody that that Texas has has beaten, they've gone
back and and redeemed themselves. So it's like the the law.
The wins mean more. Now, if Vanderbilt would have went

(05:49):
out there and lost, then Texas, uh, the victory over
them wouldn't have meant as much. Did they didn't?

Speaker 3 (05:59):
I many?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I mean you think games Texas is one. That's what
I'm saying. It all comes it comes close down. Yeah,
And Texas is a winning franchise in the Conference. A
and M sits at the top of it at six
and oh, followed by Alabama who is also six and
oh in conference play. The Georgia Bulldogs six and one,
oh Miss five and one in the Texas Longhorns come

(06:22):
in at four and one in seven and two on
the season this weekend, there's some big time matchups that
are going to be happening in the SEC. You start
to look at these games and you're like, Okay, here's
where we are now. November fifteenth, you got South Carolina
who's been a punching bag here lately. They just can't

(06:42):
get it right, along with Arkansas. So you look at
those two teams, South Carolina and Texas A and M
kickoff Saturday at eleven am. You follow by Arkansas at LSU.
That will game will be on SEC network, and then
at two thirty Oklahoma travels to Alabama. That's a big

(07:04):
game for the Oklahoma Sooners who are just on that cuss,
but even bigger game for Alabama to keep going in
the right direction. You've got Florida at oh Miss starting
at six o'clock. Obviously, Texas at Georgia at seven point thirty,
and the nightcap is Mississippi State at Missouri. But at

(07:25):
Oklahoma Alabama game is a big game as well because
both of those teams, Alabama we talked about where they are,
didn't give you a chance to say anything about Oklahoma,
but Oklahoma sitting at three and two in conference play
in seven and two on the regular season. That's a
big game for both of those teams, especially Alabama being

(07:47):
at home and having Oklahoma come in.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
These are two of the biggest games that are going
to happen in college football this Saturday, Oklahoma and Alabama.
Oklahoma be Alabama, that's that's a huge feather in the hat.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
They'll move up in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Texas beat Georgia with the win of OU, which OHU
is helping us now because Texas beats them, they beat Alabama. Now,
Texas moves up the fourth and and maybe even third
because Indiana did not look impressive and they got by

(08:29):
the skin of their teeth.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think Indiana's gonna drop.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
So you think if Texas goes out and wins this game,
they're gonna drop.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
They're gonna jump all the way up to the top three.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
They're gonna jump up into the top three or four minimum,
because that's that's with Alabama.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Losing, that's it. So they would need help in order
for that to happen.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
It's a possibility because oaklub I mean Texas A and
m is gonna have to lose.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Indiana's gonna have to lose.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Both of those teams are at the top, obviously Alabama
to Alabama being where they are. Texas Tech with a
big time win this past weekend. We'll talk a little
bit about that as well. But there's a lot that
will have to happen. Ole Miss would have to lose
to Florida. I mean, there's a lot that still has
to come into play when you think about it. But

(09:24):
big weekend, big weekend for the Texas Longhorse. But you
can hear it all right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. It starts today with the press conference.
Coach Sark will address the media today starting at eleven thirty,
but myself, Creig Way, and Cam Parker will be at

(09:44):
the stadium starting at eleven o'clock as we lead up
to Coach Sark speaking with the media. We'll also hear
from Sean Miller tomorrow as he will address the media
today as he got his first win at a University
of Texas head coach. Big time performance against Lafayette, not

(10:06):
the raging Cajun's Lafayette from eastern Pennsylvania.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
They played them on Saturday. Big time matchups. Man.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
We had a lot of fun this weekend, I know,
y'all had a big trip to San Antonio. You and
Marcus got to hang out with Wemby and uh arch Manning.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
And my new favorite and Durant too, and Kevin Durant.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
But my new favorite wide receiver Parker Livingstone.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
And he said it was Livingston. Yeah, I mean everybody, but.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah, I was told by somebody that was Livingstone. Yeah,
but anyway, yeah it was you know, we we had
we had a very interesting conversation about his mustache. And
I said, that's that's a dope movie mustache, sir.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
And he was like, uh, yeah, I've been told that.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
But oh my god, I cannot say the word.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
But sure, I Trevor, why why? Yeah, what's up? Track?
What's up? Traveler? Yeah, you know why you got the
what's up? Trevor? That mustache though, it's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Oh I'm sure, I'm sure, but uh, good stuff right there.
Start off the show, kicking it off talking about Parker
Livingston's mustache. Coming up next, we're gonna talk about the
Texas women's basketball team. They had their first test of
the season. Number twenty four ranked Richmond Spiders came into
town and let's just say Texas women pass the test

(11:41):
right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Welcome back to the.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
We are back and up and running on our.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
YouTube, Facebook and of course Twitter x whatever.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
You want to call it. A videos are back up
and running.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
And somebody that was up and running this weekend was
the Texas women's basketball team as they had a big
time matchup against the number twenty four ranked, twenty four
ranked Richmond Spiders. They come in, they tried to battle,
but it was an all out effort from all of
the players for the University of Texas. But you know,

(12:26):
Madison Booker became Madison Booker once again. And of course
you had Jordan League and the freshman sensation Aliah Crump
who continues to get better and better every game.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Yeah, Lee crumpas twelve points. Suddenly she's your leading scorer
for Texas. Well, no, she's I'm sorry, she's got twelve.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Third lead score. And then the.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Three Madison Booker, a rare three.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
She's got eighteen.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Madison Booker with the three, she finished with twenty two points.
Jordan Lee playing good defense, and the steal.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
And then Lee with the steal, Jordan trying to run
it down and she does, She's got the trailer and
Crump Krupp lays it in with the left hand.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Lee Leah Crump finished with fourteen, Jordan Lee finished with sixteen.
And as I said, Madison Booker had twelve, I mean,
excuse me, had twenty two points. Suffocating defense and they
end up blowing this team out eighty five to fifty six.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
Get about his second difference, Preston now with four, She'll
take the shot and miss it, loose ball and that
will do it, long warns with the win eighty five
to fifty six over the twenty fourth ranked team in
the country.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
And that is why it's so impressive to watch what
they were able to do their suffocating defense.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
And I mean that sincerely. It was.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
It was fun to watch how they went in line
to inline. I told y'all from the day that I
met coach coach Vic Schaeffer, he said it, from day one,
we are gonna press you from the airport to the
bus station.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
You gonna have to be able to.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Get the ball in to try to get to try
to move against us. And they showed that early tonight
they will play Louisiana Lafayette. I'm gonna give you an
opportunity to win a pair of tickets a little bit
later to go check that game out. That will You
can hear that game right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred Zone with the voice of the Texas Longhorns,

(14:43):
Craig Way. But right now I want you to hear
from Jordan Lee. Jordan Lee finished with sixteen points in
that matchup, and she continues to get better.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
We're joined now by sophomore Jordan Lee. Jordan this was
a good ball club that came in here and they
led by five, and then you guys exploded. What was
the difference in the end of the first quarter in
the start of the second.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
We definitely didn't start out as this discipline as we
wanted to defensively. Some miscommunications early on some switches, and
we knew we were gonna be spread out because of
what they run and how they look for cutters and flares.
So we just kind of had a hone in on
how we were communicating and really pay attention to those
little details.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
And then you guys had a few turnovers in the
first court and really took care of the ball, but
you kept turning them over.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Do you feel that when the defenses is kicked up
a notch?

Speaker 5 (15:29):
Definitely, that's kind of how we get things rolling, get
our legs under us. So we definitely applied some pressure
and it lets some good things offensively.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
We saw your finish last year, the great effort at
in the tournament in the final four, a career high Monday.
Do you feel like you're getting comfortable in the college game.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Absolutely. I mean it's sophomore season, so everything should be
stepped up. You know, I'm aware of the maturity and
the pace of the game.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
So definitely, you're all American.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Madison Booker nearly had the triple double with sixtels. She
kind of had a look and Rye tonight.

Speaker 5 (15:58):
I feel like she always does. You know, it gets
in the right spots and just anything is green from
pretty much anywhere on the court.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
All right, thanks, Jordan, appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Wow, that's that's awesome when you got the green light anytime. Yeah,
in Madison Booker, She's worked for that. But we know
where she makes her hey, and that's inside that that arc.
You know, anywhere from twenty to fifteen feet is money.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Yeah, she's a good mid range shooter.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
The one complaint that I will have for this Texas
basketball team is they have to This game could have
been a lot worse. This game could have should have
been a lot worse. They were eleven of twenty four
from the free throw line, and I'm sure coach Vick
is talking about that and looking at the team and saying, hey,
we have to be better from the free throw line.

(16:46):
Shot forty five percent from free throw line. If they
if they can clean that part of it, listen, I'm
a big fan of what I've seen from this football
I mean football team.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
They play like that.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
It's a very very physical, physical game when you look
at Texas play, and again, that is something that coach
Vick Schaeffer has talked about numerous times. If they can
get that down and get those free throws, I'm not
asking them to shooting exactly. Get to that number and
this team is gonna be unstoppable. They shot the three,

(17:19):
they weren't afraid to do it. But the way that
they play defense is amazing. Rory Harmon had six assists.
She now needs thirty five assists to be the Texas
all time assists leader in both men and women basketball
here at the university.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
But I said it before and I'll say it again.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
If you have not come to watch a women's basketball
game or a men's basketball game, we'll talk men in
the next segment. In the Hard Knocks Life segment, you
need to go watch Madison Booker because of how smooth
she is and how she as. They say she's slimmed down.
She looks fat, fantastic, looks faster, and she looks like

(18:02):
her energy is on point right now. But this freshman
Aliah Crump is the real deal.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
She is.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
She was the number five player in the country coming
out last year, and I know all everybody wants to
talk about Elias Chavez and how Texas missed out on her,
and she's gonna be great. Enjoy watching this young lady
play because she's big, she's quick, she can move, and
she shoots the ball effortlessly.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
She's really really good.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Man.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
I can't wait to get out there.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
He's got a He's got another good one with her
because she is going to be special here at the University.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Take the reins. When Madison Booker.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Leads, absolutely, there's no doubt in my mind. Wow, there's
no doubt in my mind. And her Jordan Lee has
been playing outstanding. Justice Carlton has been playing outstanding. Brianna Preston.
When she gets the ball in her hands, she's so fast,
she takes it to another notch and you get out
and run. And that's what you're gonna see every single

(19:06):
time you watch this team play. They had fifteen steals.
Fifteen steals in the game the other night between her
and Rory, I'm talking about the entire team. Okay, fifteen steals.
That's still a lot. That's a lot. That's still a lot.
And so they had second chance points. They were twenty one. Uh,
they had twenty one second chance points. They had twenty
one points coming off the bench, and they grabbed thirty

(19:30):
seven rebounds and scored thirty eight points in the paint.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Hey, that that that's that you just said off the bench? Yeah,
twenty one, twenty one points off the bat. That is invaluable. Yep,
that is invaluable. And I don't know who didn't start
that maybe scored twelve thirteen points. I'm very sure that
you know, when you get twenty one points off your bench,
you're you're gonna win.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
And that's without Kyla Oldaker announcing her presence, you know,
with her points she didn't have. She was just she
came out, she played and was trying to get things going.
But you start looking at all of these players on
this Texas team. Brianna Cunningham, I mean, excuse me, Bria
Cunningham transfer. She's a big body inside and she's physical

(20:17):
and she's not afraid to play out on the edge.
Tydd Sidbury another gave a strong eleven minutes and she understands.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Her role on this team.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
And I think that's the biggest thing for coach Schaeffer
when he talks to this basketball team.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
They understand their roles.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Right, And if you understand your role and you're willing
to accept that, then it's great for team play.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yeah, and this is a team sport.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
We talked about this last week when coach vic said
that he got everybody before the season. They put on
non descript gear. Everybody had on the same thing, and
they all went and ran and they all did conditioning
together as a team up and that those are the
things that make you a great team.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
I'm I'm very excited for what this season.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, and I know that coach vic is too, and
you listen to him, he gets a little fired up
about a squad and he wants them to understand that
it's a it's a marathon, it's not a sprint.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Gonna keep building, building, building, But when.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
You get a chance to watch or listen to the
game tonight or go to the game, watch the way
Aliah Crump moves without the basketball. Those are the things
they draw up plays for her to get the basketball.
Those are the things that I like to see. And
she's answering the call right away. Because Coach Schaeffer was

(21:46):
talking about freshman and understanding the speed of the game.
I think she's figured out the speed of the game already, already, already.
There's still gonna be some challenges though. Coming up next,
Texas men's basketball gets a big time three Sean Miller's
first as a uteam coach, and we'll hear about it
right here on the morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM

(22:07):
thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen one hundred The Zone.
It's a long Horns Monday. Addition, we talked Texas football.
We just talked Texas women's basketball as they are the
number four team in the nation. They beat the number
twenty four ranked team in the nation in Richmond, and

(22:30):
now we're gonna talk Texas men's basketball. Sean Miller got
his first win at the University of Texas this past weekend.
It was a performance that we were expecting from this team.
Let's be honest, playing against a team like La Fayette,
they were able to go out and get that win,

(22:50):
ninety seven to sixty.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
Lot of good players.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
On that floor, a lot of guys that could shoot
the basketball. And as they continue to make their move
one of the guys that is back at this university
is one Jordan Pope.

Speaker 7 (23:06):
Now coming off the screen, popa three. That's good for Jordan. Well,
that's what he can provide right out of the gate,
whether he's coming off the bench, short starting.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
No doubt about it. He's an instant bucket.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
He's quick, relation does a good job of getting.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
The open areas.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
You know. The funny thing is, going into the week,
we were talking about this Texas basketball team, and last
week Jordan Pope came off the bench and Kendall Weaver
was in the starting lineup. A lot of people were saying,
is this going to be the lineup? It's going to
be changing often, Coach Miller trying to find the groups.

(23:41):
But Jordan Pope is a bucket ready to shoot. He
finished with ten points. One of the guys that you're
a big fan of is Nick Cody, and Nick Cody
got a chance to play a little bit too.

Speaker 7 (23:54):
Pass broken up and I steal long worne happen. Here's
Cody in the paint, spins turn slammed dunk for Nick.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Job of turning the.

Speaker 6 (24:01):
Ball over gin't in three transition.

Speaker 7 (24:03):
Layup tex Us up seventeen to six, the first double
digit leader.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
He went three or four from the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
You heard that dunk right there, And that is how
he is going to be used.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
He was.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
They were using him on the perimeter a lot, obviously
setting screens, being able to make the past. There was
one time he caught the ball at the free throw
line and he didn't even look to shoot, and I
was like, you need to go shoot that. I mean,
go knock that down because they were sagging off of him.
And if he can be able to attack the rim

(24:37):
in the nature in which Coach Miller is probably going
to want him to because if he's going to be
on the court, he's got to be able to attack
the rim sometimes too.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
But the big man made his presence known.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
We already talked about how he liked to fight and
it liked to be a little bit physical.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Matisse was out there doing his thing.

Speaker 7 (24:58):
Cross cot past Duru with a winner for three yells.
An airball pulled down by Voca Titus. Pipe shoot, nice spin,
low post base line move madus Foka Titus with a
two handed flush.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Boca Titus doing his thing hard.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
I'm gonna tell you something, Voga Titus footwork is very
very good. Yeah, like watching him at seven feet move
his feet the way that he moves him like he
can be a pro, like be a draft pick.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Fourteen fourteen and eleven. He had fourteen points, eleven boards,
he had seven defensive rebounds. He was seven to nine
from the field. And he continues to show that he
is going to be a physical, physical presence every single time.
And the thing that I liked about this team was

(25:48):
they did not let up. But one guy that will
always bring the energy and will always announce his presence
with authority is one Kenda Weaver.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Left side pokes driples, pull up jumper, left elbow, no
good follow slammed kind the Weaver soaring it from nowhere.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Well a two added slam.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Kendal Weaver was somebody that I looked at early in
the ball game, and he had an opportunity to.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
They had a fast break and they were trying to
they were getting ready to throw him an oop, and
he slipped on the way up. If he would have,
if he would have been able to get up the
way he was planning on it, because this was full spread,
full fast break, aliup ready to tear the rim down,
and I was hoping.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
I was hoping he would have.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Caught that out of the air because it would have
been nasty.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Well, it's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
They're gonna have plenty opportunities to get those type of
plays with Kindle we You and I said this last year,
why don't they run backdoor plays for him to get
a lob because he's so adept at doing so. Yeah,
just without a play being drawn up for him. Imagine
if you draw a play up. Well, they know they're

(27:05):
gonna end up knowing each other.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Well, Uh, now that they're starting to play a little bit,
they're gonna understand who can who's gonna be at this cut,
who's gonna be on this side, and they're gonna have
that feel for each other once they break them down.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
And you have a guy that's undersized like Kendall is, Like,
if you have him in the dunk position and you
run plays, nobody's gonna expect him to cut to the block,
like it would be so easy to do. Like, so
I'm just looking forward to the options.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Yeah, he better.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
He's gonna be one of those dudes that if you're
not paying attention to where he is, he gonna posterize you.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
But coach Sean.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Miller talked about his basketball team and what he saw tonight.

Speaker 8 (27:47):
It's nice for us to be able to get started
at home. It's been a long time coming in uh,
you know, I think the Moody Moody Center was you know,
the coaching it for the first time, and a number
of our players this was the first time they ever
or played a game in it.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
And I think all of.

Speaker 8 (28:02):
Us leave just very grateful that we're here and very impressed.
It's an amazing, incredible atmosphere and building. And I think
part of what we're trying to do is make it
even better and make it one of the best home
courts in college basketball. It has the makings of it.
It's a spectacular venue right on campus, and the fact

(28:24):
that our students are right around the court, that's quite
a gift for all of us, and I think it's
great for them to be able to sit that close
to the court. So that's the first thing. In terms
of our team. You know, I start with the cyst.
When you can have twenty one assists on thirty three

(28:44):
made field goals, I think that shows that we played together.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
We had six players.

Speaker 8 (28:49):
In double figures and we also had only nine turnovers.
So if you think about our first performance against Duke,
we had only six assists and sixteen turnovers. That was
a big reason why the game got away from us
in the second half. You know, in terms of highlights
of players, I thought a number of guys played well.

(29:09):
It was great to see Modest you know, have a
double double, fourteen points and eleven rebounds and you know,
seven for nine from the floor.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
You can't take that for granted.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Those are the things that you talk about, you know,
being consistent, being able to understand again your role on
this team, and they're still finding it out. They're still
working through it. There's going to be moments that they
believe are going to lead to different situations. But this

(29:42):
team is fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Yeah, you said it more than once now about the
chemistry and knowing your role and that consistency of knowing
your role, knowing where you're going to be is paramount
in basketball. Yeh man, bro, this is this is an
exciting time for text this.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Yeah. Now on both sides, on both men and women.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Men and women are able to play at a high
level and being in the moody, you gotta get over
there and to go check them out. There's nothing else
like it. It's so much fun being there. Had a
great time on Friday and Saturday watching both of those teams.
They play tonight. The women play tonight at seven pm.
You can listen to the game right here on sports

(30:28):
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. When we come back,
we'll close out our number one. Betting is a problem
and it's getting worse. Right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
to the morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM

(30:50):
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Coming up at the top of the hour, we will.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Talk college football as Texas A and M and Texas
Tech handle their business, Indiana escapes, and the college football
landscape is now starting to take shape as teams are
getting closer and closer to the end of the season.
You believe that Texas now has three games left on

(31:15):
the regular season, already back to that point. So but
right now I want to give you a chance to
use that talkback feature on the new and improved and
always free iHeartRadio App. Get a chance to win a
pair of tickets to go see the Texas women tonight
as they take on Louisiana.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Lafayette at seven o'clock.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
But you can hear the game right here if you're
not going to win those tickets, right here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns, Craig Way. But all you have to do
is use the talkback feature, leave your name and who
you are taking to the game with you with a
chance to win a pair of tickets. iHeartRadio app always

(31:58):
free and it's free to download, and then all you
got to do is preset us at number one.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
But use that talk back feature.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
You only get thirty seconds to leave it, so make
sure you get it done, all right. I want to
get into this conversation because it seems to be taking
over sports. Look, we give out picks every single week.
We say for entertainment purposes only, but we're using it
for the common folk, not for a guy that is
getting paid four million dollars a year. And then you

(32:30):
go out and you ruin it by putting bets on
the line and being a co conspirator to helping other
people make money.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
You're probably asking, what are you talking about, Harje.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
The Guardian's pictures, the Cleveland Guardians Pictures are facing some
serious charges a manual class in Luis Ortiz. Guardian's Pictures
are both being paid on leave for right now, but
they have been indicted on charges related to legal gambling,
allegations that could both land in prison for sixty plus

(33:08):
years according to documents unsealed yesterday.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
So they wasn't doing one or two. No, no.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
And this report is coming from the athletic So and
here's the case. And this is pretty much an egregious case.
So the guy had just signed a five year, two
hundred and million dollar contract. He was considered one of
the best closers in baseball, and they said he was
fixing pitches. That's right, pitches, so others could win tens

(33:40):
of thousands of dollars on one pitch wagers.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
What do I mean by that? Well, I would come up.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
It's like hanging out with your buddies and you're saying, hey,
I bet you five bucks right now that next pitch
is going to be a ball. Well, you can actually
do that on these apps. You can make those bets
pitch by pitch, you can back. Well, he came out
and said, get I bet you this pitch it'll be
a ball. He would throw a ball and it just

(34:09):
looks like a regular pitch wager.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
They said.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
One of the wages was eighteen thousand dollars that the
pitch would be a ball. They said that there were
numerous instances like this over nearly two years of alleged
rig pitches. He got his buddy Luis Ortiz to get
into the operation last season, and that's why you would

(34:36):
see irregular betting patterns. According to the indictment, betters were
have made over four hundred thousand dollars off of class's
alleged rig pitches or Tee's number is more like sixty thousand,
but both pitchers are likely made just a fraction of

(34:57):
that themselves.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
So they in wrestling call it working a gimmicky, but they've.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
Worked a gimmick. And he was like he had.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
Special signals to his people, to his betters, to his betters,
and then they would, oh, my gosh, bro, this is
too much.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Yeah, he made you need to go to jail.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
He made four point five million dollars of salary or
Tease was making seven hundred and eighty two thousand of salary.
And now they both, if they both get convicted of
the charges, they'll face sixty five years in prison. Appease
sixty five years in prison. It just does not make

(35:38):
any sense to me as a professional athlete, where you
are getting paid millions of dollars.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Four point five million dollars for now the Dominican Republic,
that's like having.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
A billion thank you. And here's the other part of this.
Not only have you ruined your life, now you have
ruined your.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Family life and your relationships with your teammates and you're
you're you're managing staff and everybody, they're gonna look at you.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Like the enemy. You know, I don't think they need
to be concerned about that anymore. I don't think they
need to start getting their comments serious. Well, they got
plenty of money to.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Put in the books, hey man, put uh put a
hundred thousand on my books.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
And and it's just crazy to think about how it
has changed so much. Because we hear it in basketball
right now, we've heard it in football, We've heard it
in Major League Baseball. They fila do that. Hockey, it's hockey.
Neck hockey is soccer.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
I mean wherever you can put away to.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
I told you I quit my sport because they allowed
the cheating. Like it's no, it's no different, like I'm
they allow people to take drugs, they allow people to come.
They got the death penalty. How do you get the
death pending? The whole point of the death penalty is
you're gone. You don't come.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Back from that. I had I compete.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Against people that got death penlity, and and there is
a death ability consider is a death penalty considered.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
You don't never get to compete again, right, that's what
that's not not the actual death. No no, no, they
okay back and get you a hot one, like.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
You're not allowed to ever compete at the international level
or national level again. If you live, you're lifting at
your gym for fun. And they and Alexander Klovich in
ninety six at the Olympic Games, I competed against him
again after he got the death penty for two years.
They basically gave him a two year suspension.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
They let back they had to death. They let them
back to you know, I mean it happened. Maybe he
was clean at that point he had, Yeah, he was.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
He was even more dirty, if there's such a thing
like the dude lifted more weight than he had ever.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Lifted because he didn't he was two years of.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
No drug testing, so he had all the drugs he
needed on his system.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
He was.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
He was perfect. But go get help, y'all. Yeah, yeah,
cut one eight hundred. Gambling whatever you need to do.
Talk to your priest. But this gambling and the sports
has got to stop. It's killing it for us fans.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Yeah, because everybody thinks somebody's on the table when things
don't go well like last night or yesterday. How do
the Jacksonville Jaguars lose that game?

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Cardo Houston text too soon, man, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
There's some discussions that are be going on. Like dude
kicked the field goal, they drug tested him because it
was sixty seven yards, so he had to go get
drug tested.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is just around the corner.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
We will talk college football right here on the Morning
Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Welcome back to.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
A Longhorns Monday edition of the Morning Kickoff right here
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone and nour
number one. We talked about Texas football getting back at it,
but they are a five and a half point dog
two the number five ranked Georgia Bulldogs. They kicked that
off at six point thirty Saturday night, but we will

(39:24):
start the pregame show at three point thirty from Bolden Acres,
the South location off Lamar. Also, Texas women's basketball gets
a big win eighty five to fifty six over the
number twenty four ranked Richmond Spiders. Aliah Booker, I mean
Alijah Crump, Jordan Lee, and Madison Booker all with big games,

(39:49):
and the Texas men they defeat Lafayette ninety seven, the
sixty sean Millers first win as a UT coach. The
UT bench outscored Lafayette forty two to eleven, So you're
getting some points off the bench. And we just finished
up the conversation about the MLB scandal. Also want to

(40:09):
talk about NFL in segment number two, Mark Henry's World's
Strongest Take, and we'll wrap up the show talking about
all things Texas. But right now I want you to
hear from coach Signetti. Now listen, this was the Indiana
Penn State game. We knew that well, we were hoping

(40:30):
that Indiana was going there when but you were saying,
all right, Penn State. I know you lost your coach,
I know things are different. It's a home game, this
team is ranked number two. Hopefully you get excited at
the very beginning of the game. But somebody that was
not excited at the very big beginning of the game
is coach Signetti.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Chus, thank you, we'll coach.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Indiana has never.

Speaker 3 (40:51):
Won year at Beaver Stadium. How does that change today?
This team I were played here, this team.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Has never played here, and this team is special.

Speaker 9 (40:59):
But you said you're antenna is up when it.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Comes to Penn State. What concerns you?

Speaker 7 (41:03):
Nothing concerns time.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
He concerns over it's time to attack and play. What
a jerk, you know what, What a jerk? He could?
He could.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
You can look at it like that, But Harje, you
can have a conversation with me before kickoff. You can't
have a conversation with me before I competed. My coaches
didn't talk to me. They knew who I was going
to be. I'm the assassin, Mark.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
That's that's I understand that. No, you don't.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Have you been watching every football game that is being played.
Every coach knows that they have an interview before they
go to the game. He knew that, Hey, keep it simple.
She kept it simple. You didn't think she kept that simple?

Speaker 2 (41:52):
That then the question she asked him incited the riot
in him because of his mentality in the warlike environment
that he was in. She asked him about them losing
or them never winning at Penn State before.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
He said, my team never played here before. Exactly. That's
all he has. He said, Hey, we haven't played here before.
This is a new team. Every coach says that every
year is a new team. Every time you go somewhere,
it's a different squad. He knew he had an interview
before the game.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
You know that you know, you have an interview, but still,
why you ask him a question that's inciting like that,
Oh my god, Why not saying, hey, coach, are you
are you.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
Gonna fluff them up? You're gonna fluff them up, Hey, coach,
going out there and hope you guys have a good game. No,
she asked a professional question. That's what professionals do. That's
her job. If she did not answer the question, she's
gonna have a meeting with her production crew, she's gonna
have a meeting with her director, and asked the question
of hey, man, what was that.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
That's not what That's not how you go about it.
She played it. She did it perfectly.

Speaker 1 (42:59):
She asked question that should have been asked, and he,
being Signetti, became that person that let's let's let's let
this finish first. Because then I wanted you to hear
him at the end when he almost got his behind
kicked by Penn State, because he wanted to go out
there with this attitude. Because you can't compete, man, you

(43:22):
know you're the head coach. Coach Sargan asked questions every
single week. I don't want to hear that. I'm getting
ready to compete. I don't don't don't give me that.
Don't give me that. Don't give me that too late.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
I gave it.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
I want you to give me the Gus Johnson. Give
me some Gus Johnson.

Speaker 3 (43:42):
That doesn't alive. It drove me out. You get a
LOWNI Oh my god, it sound like he was gonna cry.

Speaker 1 (44:11):
But in reality, that was one of the best catches
that I've ever seen in college football.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
And at the pressure point in which it happened, and
then he drug you're talking about good feet, that's great feet.

Speaker 1 (44:24):
It looked like he did that dance that the kids
be doing where they foot barely even touches the ground
and they're like sliding sideways because one footlook like it
was about to come down, but he got the other
one down. It was amazing. What do they call that
good feet? They called that good feet. But now I
want you to hear that play got Indiana to continue

(44:46):
their journey their ten and o seven and oh and
the Big Ten. Penn State played their behinds out. You
thought they were gonna upset the Apple Cart get their
first win in the Big Ten. And here is coach
Signetty after the game. Coach so sorry, I.

Speaker 8 (45:02):
Know you want to talk to it, all of these guys,
and it was such an incredible finish, but the composure.

Speaker 1 (45:06):
From your quarterback to find overcover therefore, that game.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Winning touchdown took me for it. Refused to lose, basically.

Speaker 10 (45:13):
Exact on the one haven't done anything last five six
pass is getting no protection right, running ball rules, play
action pass, no time as well make a play.

Speaker 6 (45:27):
On second and who knows what cody for a first down?
Great play in the end zone. Didn't draw it up
from the gate, but I when we saw what they
were doing, there was great throwing cats and you know what,
this was an unbelivable win.

Speaker 3 (45:44):
Absoutely love stuff in my base. I'm not saying thing
quite like this. Obviously, your schedule from here and I
I know you've got some big goals, but how cruci
it was this win given where you guys want to go.

Speaker 11 (45:56):
Every game's important, you know, but that's probably the deal
for every team in America and you gotta play that
in a lot of different areas.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
And we're lucky to win. But I am so proud
of these kids.

Speaker 1 (46:13):
Oh little humble huh, A little humble huh.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Yeah, mister mister arrogant.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
Listen, I understand the coaches are gonna be coaches and
they gotta be locked in. We seeing coach Hark get
fired up and everything but handle business business.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
I would be very unprofessional in that in that that
that space too because before the game, they listen, coach,
you gotta go do this interview. Man, nobody can't do
it for me, Like, please, don't ask me nothing that's
gonna make me speak out of turn.

Speaker 3 (46:48):
I would tell him.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
Like, man, I'm I'm a live wire right now, I'm
a mushroom cloud. And the he Jackson like, don't do it,
don't fire me up. I'm already locked in.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
Come on, man, come on, man, hard I'm the worst.
I guess I just outside. We see it.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Every single coach star against it too and I and
it makes me mad when somebody asked him a question
that I feel like it's a dumb question to ask
somebody that's about to go out and go to work.

Speaker 3 (47:25):
He is the coach. He is not.

Speaker 1 (47:28):
He's not the left starting tackle that's gonna go out
there and compete against somebody. A coach has to show
composure in the moment because where's the leadership coming from.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
Where is it coming from. I fed off my people.
I fed off the people that coached me.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
I feed the people that are holding the water.

Speaker 2 (47:50):
They knew that to be at least three feet away
from me when they squirted the water at me.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
You might get bit like.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
You you have got to you have got the know
what animal you're messing with.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
I'm not mad at the dude. Now, yeah, he could.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
Have handled that with a little bit more tact.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
Answer the question and run off the field. We got
a game to play.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
You answer the question, But would you expect him to
stand there and be gracious in the time of fire.
I just don't see it. I don't, I don't, I'm not.
I don't co sign for it. And when they're in
the NBA, they ask them questions in the second quarter
before they go into the half, when they're emotional and

(48:36):
they behind by six or twelve points, and they asked them, hey, coach,
y'all look like y'all have in trouble at the free
throw line. What are you gonna do to fix that?
Maybe hit the damn shot? How about that?

Speaker 3 (48:51):
And run off the floor like they ask them questions.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
That's inciting. You're you're a true journalist. Man, I mean
that's why you get the big bucks.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
I don't know where that was coming from, but uh.

Speaker 3 (49:10):
Yeah, yes exactly. You come in here with dom and gloom.

Speaker 1 (49:13):
No, I'm coming to ask a question that is being
asked that are preparing you for the game.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
I guarantee you if we put the poll out there,
just like I told you, I don't like two Monday
night games.

Speaker 3 (49:27):
I want one Monday night game.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
I'm gonna win this argument because everybody that's ever played
a sport, I don't know how who am I talking to?

Speaker 3 (49:37):
So I'm like, what are you talking about? I played
the sport. I don't know people.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
Wanted to come and talk to because I was gonna.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
Talk to him about Oh my gosh, No, you're you
can't do that. You go ahi hard why. I guarantee
you if I would have came up and tried to
talk to you before you got ready to go play,
you would be like, hey, man, ain't got time right now.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
I'm locked in. Bro. Oh you can't be locked in.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
You gotta be mad and over there and be yelling
at people to be locked in.

Speaker 3 (50:04):
That's how I get locked in. I gotta be angry
for those at home. Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk NFL and see if
those people.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
Are angry about being talked to. Put the right here
on the Morning.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Kickoff on Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (50:24):
Welcome back to the Morning.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Mike Harball, Hard's World's Strongest Man, d Mark Henry and
of course we've got our guy Marcus behind the boards.
Coming up in the next segment, you'll have the World's
Strongest Take, brought to you by the world Strongest Man.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
That's what you got for the people.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
Well, there's a big dilemma going on right now between
who is the front runner for the MVP in the NFL.
And we've seen what Matt Stafford is doing, doing something
that no one has ever done before in the in
the in the history of the NFL, three games in
a row, throwing four touchdowns and zero interceptions, never been done.

(51:11):
And then you have Jonathan Taylor on the other side
at at Indianapolis, who is at pace to get close
to two thousand yards and but his touchdowns are through
the roof. He's averaging two touchdowns a game, like so
like that's that. That's a level of greatness. Those two

(51:32):
players are showing over everybody. If they can continue at
this pace, Uh, it's going to be spectacular.

Speaker 3 (51:38):
Indian.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
Well, we will talk about the next step. We'll talk
about it in the next segment and uh, we'll get
more into that, but right now we want to go
into the NFL. Started off on Thursday night with the
Buccaneers winning I mean, excuse me, the Broncos defeating the
Raiders ten to seven, a snoozer. But after that there

(51:58):
was points being scored all over the place. You look
at last night's game, the Chargers defeat the Steelers twenty
five to ten, Justin Herbert two hundred and twenty yards
passing one touchdown. But the story is what's going on
with the Steelers offense. You cannot mask it anymore. They're

(52:20):
just not very good at this particular time. They have
fallen to five and four and two and two, and
then in conference are away from the home confines.

Speaker 3 (52:31):
But here's the other part for me.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
You look at what the Ravens have been able to
do since Lamar Jackson has come back. They go to Minnesota,
that evit the Minnesota Vikings twenty seven to nineteen. You
look at Pittsburgh. We thought it was gonna be runaway
with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Well, they lost two in a row,
and now the Ravens have won two in a row.

(52:55):
With Lamar Jackson being back, Derrick Henry looks like he's
ready to hope the mail again and now is getting
a little bit scary for those in that division. Another
big game with a big flip in the thought process
was the Miami Dolphins handling the Buffalo Bills thirty to thirteen.

(53:17):
Devont A Chang twenty two carries one hundred and seventy
four yards on the ground, two touchdowns, and the Dolphins
beat the Buffalo Bills handily. Another team that is playing
well is the Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears six and
three defeat the New York Giants twenty four to ten.

(53:41):
Caleb Williams continues to get better and better each week.
Devandre Swift is running the heck out of the football,
and now you look at the Bears as a true
playoff contending team. In overtime over in Berlin, the d
Annapolis Colts, which your guy, Jonathan Taylor thirty two carries

(54:04):
two hundred and forty four yards, three touchdowns defeat the
Atlanta Falcons thirty one to.

Speaker 3 (54:13):
Twenty five.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
But the funny thing about this game was it wasn't
the fact that the Colts won. Because the Colts are
now sitting at eight and two, It is how bad
the Falcons are becoming as a football team. They still
have not figured out a way to use Bijon Robinson properly.
I'm glad to see Drake London getting off, I'm glad

(54:36):
to see that he is playing better, but they are
still bad at drawing plays and getting the ball to
their playmakers.

Speaker 3 (54:45):
Look at what the Coats did. They gave him the
ball thirty.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
Two times and threw it to him out of the backfield.
Like why is it so hard to understand that you
have the ultimate weapon in the backfield and you don't
use them properly.

Speaker 2 (54:58):
Yeah, it looks like if say Bjon played for Dallas
with Dallas's running scheme Byjon with average one hundred and
fifty yards a game and a touchdown because it's talent.

Speaker 3 (55:12):
And they lining them up at wide receiver, I'm like,
what are you is they?

Speaker 2 (55:18):
I don't know if the coordinator and the coaches have
forgotten all the things that they know about football. But
sometimes they look lostep and you'll see Michael Pennix dropping
back on five and seventy seven step drops on third
down and seven, third down and eight when they need

(55:40):
to get the ball out of their hands.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
It's third down and seven. You know they're coming. Yep.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
It's like they they welcome pressure. Hey, we want you
to the blitzers. We want you to rush us. Maybe
they feel like that they can get the ball to
their playmakers. It's not working. It haven't worked thus far,
so now it's to change. Yeah, it is.

Speaker 1 (56:03):
It is interesting to see a team with those types
of weapons not use them properly.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
It just doesn't make sense until you know what.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
My suggestion is, trade them, know what, fire them. They
got to get rid of them. Okay, somebody gotta go,
and I don't. I'm not I'm not willing to get
rid of none of the talent. At first, I thought Pitts,
y'all can get rid of him.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
He was making some drops yesterday, Pitts was dropping the ball.
But I still believe in his talent. I still believe
in his talent. I believe they just don't know how
to use these guys. They you know, you got a
power runner and.

Speaker 2 (56:46):
Algiers who needs a fullback in front of him or
at least a tight end in motion to go and
seal block like Texas does.

Speaker 3 (56:57):
But do they do it.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
No, They outside zone a dude that's not an outside
own guy.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
Even though it works.

Speaker 2 (57:04):
Sometimes it works because of his talent, not because of
the scheme. They just do so many things, and everybody
knows that London is gonna get the ball, like they're
gonna throw to him first. All you gotta do is
on first and second down double covering because you know
Pitts is guaranteed at least one drop of drive for sure,

(57:26):
for sure, so force him to throw it to somebody
other than those two players.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
The New England Patriots are now eight and two, twenty
three to twenty excuse me, twenty eight to twenty three
victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker Baker touchdown maker,
did everything he could with three touchdowns, but Trevion Henderson
fourteen carries one hundred and forty seven yards rushing and

(57:51):
two touchdowns, and they are sitting at eight and two
and the Buccaneers are at six and three. But the
game of the day. The Houston Texans scored twenty six
points in the fourth quarter to come from behind to
get the victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars thirty six to

(58:15):
twenty nine, and Davis Mills, mister long neck himself, got
a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (58:23):
Davis Mills or a rush walker steps up. He's gonna run.
Mills looking for the parline. He's kicked the end goal,
tucks down.

Speaker 1 (58:32):
Texans what they come from behind victory, But it wasn't over.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
The last play of the game.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Sealed the deal, sealed the fate of the Jaguars with
the l Lawrence, He's sacked and it's over.

Speaker 7 (58:52):
Will Anderson Junior gets there, the bull pumps in the
air and Rankins takes it the distance.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
Want to wait, I want to investigation. I want investigation
right now. I had that game. I had that game
with the pick and then in the last three seconds
of the game, you you have a fumble and then
they go back run it back for a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (59:22):
Scoop and skull baby.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
Oh my gosh, come on, man, like I need an investigation.

Speaker 1 (59:28):
Take Sometimes it bes that way, man, when you think
about how the game is being played and what it
looks like it's a little bit different. That's why Demico
Ryans and his post game said, we just got to
keep fighting. We gotta keep fighting, we gotta keep fighting.
And that's exactly what they did. They fought to the

(59:50):
very end. And Demiko said this. Well, we'll wait for
Demiko to say that, but he talked about his team
and what they they did and how they did it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
And here's what it sounded like.

Speaker 12 (01:00:04):
Where do I start, man, Last night, we talked about
it last night, man, and we talked about swinging.

Speaker 7 (01:00:12):
Right.

Speaker 12 (01:00:12):
We were at halftime, we were in that sixth round, right,
and we needed everybody to keep swinging. Told you, guys,
don't bleek no matter what. Everybody just kept punching, kept punching.
We kept throwing haymakers. To finish in the fourth quarter. Guys,
we finished twenty six to zero in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
That's how you finished right there. Man.

Speaker 12 (01:00:34):
Man, I just man, I just appreciate you guys, man
so much talked about having that relentless desire and that
will to win. That's what it looks like right there.
That's us finishing in the fourth quarter, right Love you guys, man,
appreciate the effort.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
I've never been a part of a game like that, man.
That was so much fun. I love it. But let's
not make it that close next time.

Speaker 1 (01:01:01):
Sometimes it bes that way. As my man Ike said,
that's a bad beat for you.

Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
That's a bad beat.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
Scott Van Pelt will be proud of you because you'll
be part of bad beats. But it is what it is.
And guess what's next. The world's Strongest Man is bringing
you his world's strongest take right here on the morning
kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
You know what time it is?

Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
When you hear that beat drop, it can only mean
one thing. W w ee Hall of Famer and World's
Strongest Man d Mark Henry brings you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
Take it away, big fellaw Mar, Yes, you know what
it is. What time is?

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
By gosh, back then.

Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
They didn't know, but now I'm hot hard They all
on me.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Guys, here we go. Everybody knows that right now there's
a two man.

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Race for who's going to be the MVP. We thought
Lamar Jackson was going to be the guy, and we
thought Josh Allen, who won it last year, would be
right there at the top. Sorry, Charlie, a lot of
people don't even know what that reference is. But anyway,
I digress. The two guys that are in that front

(01:02:26):
running spot right now are Matt Stafford, who plays quarterback
for the Los Angeles Rams and is projected to be
one of the top two right now. The other guy
is Jonathan Taylor, who right now they say is the
heavy favorite to be the MVP. Now, let's start with

(01:02:50):
Matt Stafford. Matt Stafford, in the last three games has
done something that no quarterback in the history of the
NFL is done. Not Brady, not Montana, not eight Men,
not Bradshaw, you month, Marino, you named somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
They didn't do it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
He's thrown for four touchdowns in consecutive games with zero interceptions.
I'm gonna say that again, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, three
games in a row.

Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
And then you have Taylor.

Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Taylor has rushed for two hundred yards three times this season,
one for two hundred and forty four yards, and is
Both of these guys, of course, are the fantasy football leaders.
They're scoring more points than anybody. The thing that I

(01:03:53):
put My take is this, because this is the world's
strongest take and it's up to me. I say Jonathan Taylor.
And the reasons that I say Jonathan Taylor is because
we're getting at the end of the season, when the
weather starts to get bad, He's gonna take.

Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
A handoff.

Speaker 2 (01:04:14):
And he's gonna be able to do all the things
that every team has tried to stop and couldn't. It's
only gonna get better for him. Stafford, the weather changes,
it affects his throwing. They're gonna have to go more
to their running game. I don't think that he can
sustain throwing four touchdowns with no interceptions for the rest

(01:04:38):
of the season. I just don't feel like that's a possibility.
My take is Jonathan Taylor wins. He's in rarefied there.
There's only five other running backs that have done what
he's done, and names to the like of Adrian Peterson,

(01:05:02):
names like uh La, Damian Thomason, Jim Brown. When you
when you put yourself in the in the in the
rarefied air of elite running backs that have got close.

Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
To or ran two thousand yards, you deserve it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
Barkley was like the eye man out almost made it
but didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
It's a it's a rare list.

Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
What's say you, Well, you're forgetting a couple of names
that are on there. Drake May is the betting favorite
right now on DraftKings inmbookie dot com. He's plus two
eighty five and we talked about they're eight and two.
This is a team that's eight and to another name
that could possibly be in this conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Copy and paste. He's always on this conversation.

Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Patrick Mahomes is still going to be in this converse station.
You can look at Lamar, but that's a little further down.
But I agree with you about the Jonathan Taylor thing.
But they don't give the MVP to run him back
the back. If anybody would have won it, it should
have been last year with Sakwan Barkley, the numbers that
he put up last year and they didn't give it

(01:06:17):
to him. He'll win an Offensive Player of the Year award.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
Yeah, absolutely, he's Barker also played one and a half
less games than everybody because he decided to sit out right,
That's what I'm saying. He didn't finish. There were one
game where he didn't finish. He played in the first
half and they were up like thirty one to three,
and he sat out the rest of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
And then he didn't play the last game, and then
he didn't play the last game. That's what I'm saying that.
But he got a trophy because he won the championship.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
But what if what if he ran for one hundred
and fifty yards in that last game that he didn't play.
What if he played in the second half of that
game that they were up thirty one to three.

Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
What do you tell me about what IF's if?

Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
Yeah, and a happy New Year.

Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
But I'm just saying you get my point though.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
But I'm but we look at him and deprived itself
for two hundred yards and have many touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
He probably could have scored in a game and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
Jonathan Taylor sitting in the same spot. They're eight and two.
He may not even play the last couple of games
of the season. That would hurt my feeling. But that's
but that's what. Do you want a trophy or do
you want to get the m v P or the
offensive player? He go, he gonna get an award. It's
not a matter of that. These guys are playing for
something bigger than that, and that's why it's difficult.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
I thought last year, say Kwon Barkley was by far
the most valuable player in the NFL because he came
to a new team and they went to the Super
Bowl and he was the main one of the main
reasons why they had the success. But the NFL voters
did not give it to him because they wanted to
give it to Josh Allen.

Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
My world strongest take is not about the indispariency of
the quarterback getting the MVP over the running back. It's
about right now, the two people that are at the
front runners and who I feel like should get it.
And I feel like Jonathan Taylor should get it. If

(01:08:24):
he stays on the path and they continue to do
what they're doing, he should get it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
That's just that's my opinion. You know who the last
running back to win the MVP was? Who was that?
Adrian Peterson twenty twelve.

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
And then you know, I know it's short take, but
when you go, what say you don't?

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
I can't remember one that they But I'm not gonna
let you step on hard and break my bring my
heart your spirit.

Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
No, just like coch In, You're not going in exciting
right right man. That's Trump.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
That's the world's his take, brought to you by the
world's strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Because we can't give a rebuttal, it's his take. It's
his day mine. I'm taking my ball and I'm going home.

Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
We'll close out the show and send you to Dan Patrick.
But we got a lot going on on the forty
Acres and I'm gonna give you another chance to win
a pair of tickets to go see the Texas Women

Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
It's on the top, that's right, and your talkback feature
and someone will contact you if you win the ticket. Well,
this weekend was a big weekend for a lot of folks.
We did a lot of different things, but two people
lost were passed away this weekend. Lenny Wilkins, former NBA

(01:11:22):
player and coach, both put him into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
He passed away at yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
And Paul Tagliabu, the former NFL commissioner, he had the
job for seventeen seasons. He's the one who handed it
over to Roger Goodell, and a lot of folks that
had moments of silence for both of them yesterday on
basketball and in the NFL. So prayers to those families

(01:11:54):
that are involved. Lenny Wilkins went through a lot in
the NBA and changed the game, and he was a
mentor to so many of the younger players also and
coaches as well. And Paul taglia Blue was one of
those guys that really was forward thinking. Spent a lot
of time with Jerry as far as TV rights and

(01:12:16):
getting deals done to make the changes that needed to
be made with the NFL. Now that's why the owners
are making so much money now. I guess they call
him general. What do they call him out general?

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
Managers?

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
The governors, they were governors and other sports. NBA is
just the governors, right, Yeah, they're not owners anymore. Speaking
of NBA, you two guys had.

Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
One heck of a weekend this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:12:40):
Huh oh, Yeah, it was an incredible weekend. Got to
go down to San Antonio to the Spurs game, took
Marcus with me and my buddy Don. We had a
good time, got the hang out with Kevin Durant, you know,
which is Marcus's favorite, and then we also got to
meet Wemby and hang out with him for a while.

Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
Little did I know that while I was.

Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
Talking to Arch Manning and Parker Livingston that Weinby would
walk by me and go, oh my god.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
And then he took off running. He turned into a
six year old kid. He went at that pig.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
And came back and was like Mark hen read like
I wanted to take pictures and stuff he was. It was, man,
it was so humbling to have one of the greatest
players on the planet to come up and pay homage,
and you know, you started calling his family members and
stuff and like put me on FaceTime so they can
see me. And man, I bonded with with Parker. I

(01:13:47):
think Parker is one of my favorite athletes now. He
asked some incredible questions and it's not because of the mustache,
even though I joke with him and it was a lot,
but he's a cool kid that you could tell he's
beyond a freshman. His maturity is is something special. And

(01:14:07):
I think Texas won. Texas got a good one. And
Arch Manning, uh, not afraid of a moment, you know.
I think that his poise is his superpower, you know,
because he had a lot of pressure put on him
and you couldn't tell, so you know, it was it
was a it was an unbelievable weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:14:28):
And what I tend to notice is Arch is just
one of the guys, just one of the guys, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
And you would think that he would, you know, have
this aura of I'm the guy, and he don't.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
He just he's just one of the guys. And the guys.

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Respect him for that. So Marcus, your experience, Oh, it
was awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:14:48):
Man.

Speaker 9 (01:14:49):
First of all, it was my first time getting to
hang out with Mark and I kind of felt from work, Yeah,
away from work with the people. And yeah, Mark is
a man of the people. I have to give him credit.
He he is a man of the people. The people come
and talk to him, he will talk to him. He
will give them a time, joke around, give them a
good conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:15:08):
Things for them to remember. It's good. Kiss up to
the teacher. Apple is over here on my desk.

Speaker 9 (01:15:20):
Hey, man, he got me. He got me a chance
to meet Kevin Durant. He got me a chance to
see arch Uh, more of the UT players, Parker Livingston,
it was some other guys I can't remember. I don't
want to misplace their names because they helmes are not
on if they had the numbers, I know who they are.
I probably met some of the biggest stars in the
future and don't even know it. Saw Wenby uh Raw,

(01:15:43):
Ivy Uh many former UT players.

Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
It was pretty awesome.

Speaker 9 (01:15:48):
And shout out to Vincent you who kind of helped
us out and set us up with a little bit
of that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
And also the Vince is great. He's a he's a
good good, he's a very Vince was the trainer for
basketball you t.

Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Yeah, that's why he's so close with all those guys,
and that's why he does the basketball for University of Texas,
the TVT And of course he got a great restaurant
Susiana down there in San Antonio.

Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
So good. Shout out to Vince. Good.

Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
Dude, man really like him a lot, always have. I mean,
he's been cool from day one, and you would the
one who introduced me to him, so appreciate that with you.
But yeah, I'm glad you guys had a great, great time. Also,
I wanted to make sure that the Texas basketball fans
understood this. Austin Goozby's son a son brother of Trevor Gooseby,

(01:16:37):
offensive lineman for the University of Texas. He said he
will be making his announcement. Five star basketball player will
be making his college decision on Friday, November the fifteenth.
It's between Baylor BYU Duke and Texas And we're gonna
get a chance to talk to the father and possibly

(01:16:58):
Austin this week to try to figure out if you're
gonna give us the inside school Probably not. Probably not,
but we're definitely gonna ask about that. So we'll be
working to as for this week. He might even be
in our legends of the locker room. Oh who knows,
you never know.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
I want to thank Marcus, I want to thank Mark,
I want to thank you the people. Make sure you
give us that phone call.

Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
So you get a chance to win a pair of
tickets to go Texas Women tonight as they take on
the raging Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette. Make sure you tuned
in all day long. Dan Patrick coming up next, Colin Cowhert,
and of course we got coach Sark and myself, Craig
Way and Cam Parker bringing it all to you from

(01:17:44):
the University of Texas Game week, Baby, bring all them
Bulldogs and just remember this, don't believe everything you see,
because even Saw looks like Shug.

Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Peace.

On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
