Speaker 1 (00:06):
What a great day, great weekend for the Texas Longhorn
football team. Soccer wins as well, and of course you
got a chance to watch Texas volleyball get that dub.
But as a former professional baseball player, I always find
these sentimental moments. It wasn't long ago that JT. Snow
(00:28):
was grabbing a young bat boy off the ground and
avoiding him from getting hit at home play as there
was a play at the play. Well, that young kid
was Darren Baker, son of Dusty Baker. Dusty Baker retired
from coaching and just happened to be in attendance yesterday
(00:48):
when his son, Darren Baker made his major league debut.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
First pitch in the big leagues.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
If you're a nitchpantis as good as you can feel
when it's fourteen to one, Well done, Darren Baker. Dusty
Baker was in attendance to watch his son get his
first major league hit. I know that was something special
for Dusty because of the performance. Number one, because of
the fact that his son played and got to the
(01:22):
big leagues, and the fact that because he retired, he
got a chance to sit in the bleachers, to actually
be there. If he was still coaching. He would have
been somewhere elsewhere. It wouldn't have been able to take
in that moment to watch his son get his first
big league hit. Dusty Baker has given a lot to
the Major league game, both professionally and behind the scenes,
(01:45):
for the things that he's done, the people that he
has spoken to and gave words of wisdom. And now
his son gets to put his name in the record book.
And now Dusty Baker and Darren Baker our father and
son in the books forever. That is pretty cool movement.
And Dusty Baker, for those that don't know, and if
(02:07):
you've listened to me before, you've heard me talk about it.
When Hank Aaron broke seven fifteen, hit his seven hundred
and fifteenth home run in the Major leagues, going through
all those tough times. When he hit home play, Dusty
Baker was right there to give him a high five.
And Dusty tells you he was the one who created
(02:29):
the high five. He was there because Dusty Baker was
on deck all year as the next batter after Hank Aaron.
A lot of people don't realize that Dusty was there
when Hank was going through all that trouble of chasing
that record, getting the death threats, getting all the hate mail.
During that time, Dusty Baker was right there with him
(02:52):
and that will never be forgotten.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Are you and your wife are sports parents and my
wife and I supports parents, and I know what it
feels like to see your kid have success, and even
if they don't have success and they just do their best,
it just feels good to see him out there participating
(03:16):
doing something. Dusty, when they showed him, it looked like
he was gonna cry proud. He was so proud. My
son is in the big leagues and he got a
hit tonight. Ye first at back bro I almost teared up.
The other day, my daughter was like, I want to
(03:40):
I know, Jacob never wanted to be in your shadow,
but you could teach me how to be a lifter.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I just was like, you can have whatever you want, babe.
Like that.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
That's a beautiful thing. That is unbelievable. That's a great
story too.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
I want to thank everybody for tuning in. We're just
getting started. It's a bit week here at the radio station,
and of course you can listen to the press conference
today right here. Just stay tuned.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
All day.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
We'll make sure to get something out to let you know.
And just remember this, don't believe everything you see, because
even salt looks like sugar.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Peace,
