Texas Longhorns Softball Team Win National Championship, NCAA Settlement Shake-Up, French Open Winners & NBA Finals Game 2

Today, the guys talk about The College Softball National Champions Texas Longhorns after defeating the Texas Tech Red Raiders to win it all at the Women’s College World Series. I didn't want Tennessee to beat them. I didn't want
somebody else to beat Oklahoma. They wanted three years in
a row. When you beat a dynasty team four times

solidifies you as being great an elite. And that's what
Mike White is as a coach, and that's what his

team is and they will live on forever and at Texas.

is amazing to me that now we are living in
a life of college recruitment and the fact that student
athletes are now receiving name likeness and name image and likeness,

but also now they can receive it from the universities
has been signed to where the settlement leads you to
the point that as a student at the elite the
university can universities can now pay their student athletes up

(13:15):
to two point eight billion dollars coming from the universities.

Now that's as a whole. Not one university has a
billion dollars.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
But you know what I mean when I say that,
And it's interesting in so many different levels for all
Division I athletes. But here is the other part that
is interesting to me. You can still get money from
other deals. You could still do a commercial for Covert,

which we both did. We can still do commercials for
all of the other industries that are out there. But
now scholarship players are everybody. Scholarship player now now gets
an opportunity to get paid from the university. So Pete
Damil kind of touched on what it is and how

this is going to work.

Well, I think we have to start from the macro.
The formal settlement last night around six' Ten West coast
time is a giant moment in the history of college.

Sports and it's.

So significant because schools can now directly share revenue with
athletes after generations of payments going under the table black.
Market we've seen them pop up in federal court and
other places and see infractions cases in different. Ways the
biggest takeaway from the macro for the common fan here
is that schools can pay, athletes and that is. Significant

it is not, unexpected but it's been. Formalized as for
the next steps and the sprinter you're talking, About, phil
it is going to be. Messy an entire new infrastructure
for enforcement has to be put into place By july.
FIRST nil deals are going to start going through a
clearinghouse called nil, go which is run through the accounting
form Firm, deloitte Starting june, eleventh That's. Wednesday so this

is going to be a summer of very few vacation,
homes a lot of sprinting for athletic department members around
the country to try to adjust to this new.

Reality so when you start to think about how this
all is going to break, down the universities are going
to pay and let's just.

These universities saw this coming, down they've got everything in,

working on this for a, month for a, year because
you knew it was out, there you knew it was

twenty point five million dollars that they are going to
spread out through all of college athletics, now scholarship, wise
and everything else that goes into.

have to accept the money from the. University you still
can play for, him but they can't own your. Rights
so now your rights are in your. Control and there's
going to be probably about one hundred maybe guys that
are able one hundred, overall AND i On texas, Team

i'm talking about one hundred and the entire ENCOMPASSING ncaa
that will be able to say, NO i WANT i
want my rights AND i want my nil with that
vary on.

series for the first time and they had the investment

now that the settlement is here and all the players
are going to get paid and they're going to be

Books somebody needs to tell them about. Taxes, WELL i,
Mean i'm sure they're going to do.

THAT i know that the universities are trying to go
through that Because i've talked to some people that have
dealt with, it some parents that are dealing with. It
BUT i also understand that there's programs that are out
there for every person to understand what their tax situation
is going to. Be we just talked about six hundred.
Dollars now you've got to go through the. Clearinghouse what

that because six HUNDRED i don't think they might get
that in a.

Have to be locked in on our game as well

Bad it's as if being able to market yourself with your,
name image and likeness would like make people want to watch.

EXACTLY i want to see if the people are worth the, money,
right you. Know and there's gonna be some of that. Too.
Well you also look at it this.

Way with all of this that's going, on the social
media aspect of it all has changed. It we had
a conversation yesterday about social media and the clips and
the reels and the importance of all of that because
we are now seeing people.

Watching we've got what are they called influencers that are
out there right now that are making so much. Money
