get right into the conversation. Texas Softball opens up the
championship series, well, not the championship series, the semifinals of

(02:34):
their bracket play, and it starts off a little like
this one.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
One pitch, I fly ball the left backing up, a
lot of leaps on the warning trackt waves back.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
To the wall.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
It is gone, it's sailed out of here.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Nothing Texas one nothing Texas As. Texas goes on to
continue to make plays, and they do that by creating
an offense with Hunter putting the ball in play and
then guess what, they can't field it.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
First pitch here checks wing roller left side charging panel
up with it grows hig.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
The first base.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
It's over and I think it's out of play. Mitchell
scores Hunter's safe. The long Horns have added at least
one the play umpires sending Stewart back to second.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
We'll see if.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
They end up getting to send Stewart across the plate,
but I don't think Marty Abazidian's having anything of that.
But Panel at third base had plenty of time and
she air mails first base, so an error and the

(03:54):
Longhorns are up to nothing.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Now but that isn't it.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Mac Morgan an unbelievable job of starting the game, and
then they bring in Teagan Cavan, their leader, to close
it out.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
One and two now on Clark, the Longhorns fans standing
in the Longhorn Specific section behind the third base dugout
and in many places around the park.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
One two pitch, swearing in.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
A miss and Texas for the second year in a row,
will play for the National Championship. Two runs against Carlin

(04:45):
Pickens is all the Longhorns got.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
It's all they needed.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Katie Stewart with a solo shot in the fourth and
the throwing error with two out in the sixth inning,
and Teagan cove On came in and relief in the
fifth inning walk the first batter sheet face did not
allow anyone else to reach base safely. Set down nine

(05:12):
in a row to send the Longhorns to the Championship
Series starting Wednesday, where they'll face either Oklahoma or Texas
Tech in a two out of three championship series. Longhorns victorious.
They are now fifty four and eleven on the season.
Tennessee falls and ends their season at forty seven and seventeen.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Let me just say this because we'll get into mac
Morgan and what she brought to the table. But defensively,
the Texas women play some HELLI five defense at shortstop
and at third base.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
They made plays.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
They understood what was needed on the day, and they
knew because of the fact that Mac Morgan throws so
many drop balls that they were gonna get challenged, and
they made all the place.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know, I looked at one of the things that
you were saying about the mistakes and getting people on base.
They didn't make the mistakes harde and when they got
people on base, they got hits and brought them home.
That's the only difference that Texas men and women had.
And hopefully our men can catch up to where these

(06:27):
women are because I'm gonna tell you what, like, they're
not gonna beat themselves.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
You're gonna have to go. You're gonna have to hit it.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Have that magical what you say about Oklahoma, they got
They got that Oklahoma magic man, and you can't be afraid,
and they are never afraid. They always think they can
do it. Yeah, that's Texas has the weapon for that.
Texas has done an unbelievable job.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
And as I said, you know, mac morgan was able
to take the mound and do great things, set it
up for teaguing a bomb.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
But you got to tip your cap to mac morgan.
Being coach.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
White told us this morning macrostarting, and then when he
got to the field, it was Max gonna give her,
give her all and then might be handed off.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
To me if we need it.

Speaker 7 (07:12):
I think she mentioned she's a senior and she wants it,
and she wants that redeemption and she's like one of
those kids that just lets stuff flow off of her.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
She's not gonna dwell on what happened in the past.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Hop My mom was just go out there feet and
tried to do my job the best I can that
day and I gave my everything and we both did
pretty well to you and went out there and shut
the door.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
And she really proud of her for how she competed
the season.

Speaker 7 (07:32):
We told about that everyone needs to be with their
feet are and be ready to contribute to the team
in the program, and it's always team before me, and
she's an epitome of that.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
She is the epitome of that.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Mac Morgan has been one of those players that every
time she gets the ball, she handles her business. She
transferred to the University of Texas from Arizona State. She
comes in and just whenever the ball is given to her,
she finds a way to get it done. And that's
one of the things that I really enjoy. Every time

(08:05):
she's on the mound, we know we got a chance
to win because she competes at the ultimate eleven. Yes,
teaking Cavan gets all the credit, and rightfully so. But
every time mac morgan gets the rock, she is ready
to shove, and she handles her business every time.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Man, you know what hards I'm wondering when you step
up to the plate like that and you're all the
eyes on you.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
I think that to.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
See the pressure that it's like she doesn't feel the
pressure somehow. No, and when you're in the shadow of
somebody like Cavon, like you tend to feel that.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
God, can I live up? And she does it as
good as anybody. Yeah, she's one of those players that,
as he says, whenever she gets the opportunity to take
the amount, she handles it and she loves every opportunity. Well,
you met you heard it there They were talking about
who Texas was going to play in the matchup and

(09:07):
the Giant Slayer is now Texas Tech.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
It looks like it all Reds.

Speaker 8 (09:16):
First pick swinging in the way Barker loads up.

Speaker 9 (09:19):
Take us to the place, say, Texas Tech has students.
They had the greatest tennesse team in college softball history.
The Red Raiders storm to the championship series.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Man, am I wrong for saying I think they might
have been exciting? Uh, soccer, soccer the most exciting softball
game that I've.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Seen this year.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
No, you're not wrong for saying that, because it probably
was one of the most exciting games, as we were
talking about before, and we continue to look at it.
Something about Oklahoma and being in that ballpark. They find
a way to put the pressure on you. They come
up down to their last strike, down to their last strike,

(10:25):
and they pinch it.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
They bring in a young.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Lady and she hits a home run run, her second
home run of the year, and they brought her off
the bench and she comes in. She drives the ball
out of the park, and you're just sitting there thinking, here.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I put the cats pillow across the room. I'm like,
here we go again.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
When it comes to all the things that are happening
with the Oklahoma Centers. But Texas Tech and their investment,
Naji Kennedy comes in and she shuts the door and
they find way to get it done.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
And now the first time.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That Texas Tech has been to the College World Series.
It was the first time they were Big twelve regular
season and tournament chaps, first time they hosted a regional,
first time they made it to the super regional College
World Everything is their first time. It was never a
softball program. Now they go and make the investment and

(11:24):
here they are playing in the College World Series against
a rival in the Texas Longhorns. I cannot wait. I'm
excited about all of this. We're just getting started here
on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. When we come back, we'll talk about impact
players on the University of Texas right here on the

(11:47):
morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Coming up, in the next segment, we'll have Joe Cook
of Inside Texas breaking down the fact that the players
returned to Texas to get ready for the conditioning, the
offseason work that takes place during this time so they

(12:07):
can be ready for the Texas football season. We are
eighty eight days away from the college football season for
Texas Longhorns and the importance of being prepared. But right now,
I want to get into this conversation about the impactful
players from the University of Texas football team that will

(12:31):
be needed this year to make things happen. I'll go first, Mark,
and I'll start on the offensive side of the football.
You know Texas has made some changes. There's a lot
that is happening well. Obviously, have a different starting quarterback.
You have some guys on the offensive and defensive lines,

(12:54):
and you'll have some guys on the outside that will
need to step up and make a difference. When you
look at the wide receiving corps, there's a lot to
replace there. When you start to think about the Cowboys Cowboys,
when you start to think about the stats that have
moved on to the next level, and for me, every

(13:15):
time I look at this team and what the expectations are,
a lot of it has got to do with the
wide receivers. We know coach Sark loves to throw the
football around and the passing game is a huge part
of it. You're gonna be missing a Matthew Golden. You're
gonna be missing a Gunner Helm at tight end, You're

(13:36):
gonna have be missing an Isaiah Bond. So you have
to have some guys that are willing to step up
and be an integral part of the passing game all
off season long. We have heard two names, Ryan Wingo,
who got a chance to play in sixteen games last year.

(13:58):
You only had twenty I said, I only had. But
he had twenty nine receptions for sixteen point two yards
per catch, ended up with two touchdowns. Yeah, two touchdowns.
He's gonna be one of my impactful players because he's
got the size, he's got the ability to make those
big plays, and with that size, he can be tough

(14:21):
going across the middle. So Ryan Wingo is somebody that
I'm looking for to be impactful for this Texas Longhorned
football team. And another name that has been getting a
lot of run so far is the six to four
wide receiver from Lucas Lovejoy and that is Parker Livingston.

(14:43):
Parker Livingston during the spring session was able to make
a lot of big time plays. He was making catches
and he seems to have a good relationship with the quarterbacks.
And so Parker Livingston and Ryan Wingo are two guys

(15:03):
that I expect to take huge leaps this year and
be a force for the Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Man, I'm one agree with you Parker living Stone just
so people know, is fast enough. And when I say
fast enough, he may not run him four to three,
but he is a polished route runner.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
He's got very quick feet.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
And I don't know if you've seen him throw the ball,
but he could throw the ball like a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
So he all those plays that we.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Saw Golden and and Wingo with trying to throw the
ball out of those trick play sets. That won't be
the problem with Parker living Stone. He can rifle it
and I'm looking forward to seeing that. But I guess
my first guy hard I would I would go with

(15:59):
Justice Tam. I think that it's going to be very
difficult to keep somebody as athletic as him off the field.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Incredible first step.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
As you see the picture that's being shuffled around, you
know the social medias if you will, he looks he's
the first guy off the bus and he came here
at two hundred and sixty seven pounds. I think he's
just a tad bigger than that. Now, being in the

(16:33):
in the off season programs and all of the work
that he's done and what the strength coaching staff has done.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I'm sure that.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
He's up around too eighty now, about to look seven
or more, so it's going to be very difficult to
keep him off the field. Well, I look at him
and as somebody that will be impactful right away. This
has been one of those deals that when he signed
to come to the University of Texas, it was a

(17:05):
huge win for the Texas Longhorn, So it was very
impactful for his move to be here on the defensive side.
For me, I have looked at a bunch of these
different names. Obviously, Michael Taff returning is huge. I got
a chance to spend some time with Michael Taff this
past weekend during Texas Baseball and he's so happy to

(17:29):
be back. You could see it on his face, the
joy that he truly has about being back at.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
The University of Texas. So it'd be easy for me
to pick a Michael Taff. But there's a guy that
when he signed to come to the University of Texas,
he was number one on my list and the one
thing that I wanted to see was him play man
to man more because when he was in Comman, they

(18:01):
never threw the ball to his side because he was
that type of defender. I believe that Malik Muhammad is
the next line for this Texas Longhorn secondary to be
the person that takes a humongous step. Look, we've had
great defensive coaches that have been here, but now you
have Dwayne a Quina back in the fold here at

(18:25):
the University of DXA and bringing back that mindset of
I am great And for Malik Muhammad, I think the
recipe for success for him is going to be Dwayne Aquina.
I think a coach a Qina is gonna put him
and bless him in situations and put him around.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Not saying none of the other coaches did it. Now.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
I'm not taking anything away from what they were able
to do, because they've done a great job. But when
you come into the University of Texas and the godfought
walks through that door, I think everybody has to pay respect.
Confidence is not everything, but it's definitely something.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
And if somebody.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Can instill in you, hey, look you need to believe
in yourself.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
I see it. I think everybody else sees it. Do
you see it.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
When you get that mentality, I think that that'll take
you a long way.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Hard's My second guy is offense.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
I went with defense first. I'm gonna go offense now,
Jackie injuries, the tight end.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
That came in from cal.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Is.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
I'm gonna give you a comparison.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
For all the Cowboy fans out there, y'all remember Jay Novichik.
This guy not only does he catch the ball with
his hands, but his superpower, if you will, is being
able to find soft spots. Find He's not gonna have
I'll run you. I'm gonna tell you right now, he's

(20:03):
not gonna run you, but he's gonna find that soft
spot every time.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
Wherever the defense is not, that's where he'll be.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
And that's the super weapon for a quarterback, especially a
young quarterback like arch Man.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Right.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
And he catches the ball with his hands, he's a
big body. He posts guys up like basketball, and he
can also jump. He's a high jumper, so he's gonna
be a weapon inside the twenty yard line.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Yeah, it's going to be an interesting offseason. The workouts
that are taking place, the timing of everything and getting
closer and closer. As I said, we are eighty eight
days away from college football in Texas playing Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
There's a lot of work that is being done.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
There's gonna be more leadership that has to take place
and more growth within those meeting rooms. But as we've
seen throughout the years, if you go and look at
what Texas has been able to do in the record
over the last couple seasons, they have turned a corner
and everybody understands that when you come here now there's

(21:20):
a standard, and the standard is the standard, because we've
heard coach talk about it. Lost two seasons ago, you
went twelve and two. Last season you went thirteen and three.
But the quest is with that trophy and if you
can get there, that's going to be one of the
best times of your life.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
In the way that people are talking about it, they.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Already believe that Texas is going to be in the mix.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
But we'll find out, and.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Each week we'll continue to go through these impactful players
that are going to have a chance to stand out.
We'll talk to Joe Cook of Inside Texas and get
his thoughts on what we've seen and what he has
been writing about over at Inside Texas. Coming up next,
Joe Cook right here on a Texas Tuesday edition of

(22:07):
The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It is Tuesday, and
you know what time that is. We go and talk
to our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas and you
can follow them at Joseph Cook eighty nine and Joe.

(22:28):
The players have returned to begin their offseason conditioning program,
and we just had a segment where we talked about
some impactful players on both offense and defense, and I
wanted to know what your thoughts are as far as
an impactful player one on offense and one on defense

(22:51):
that you expect to see big gains from man.

Speaker 8 (22:56):
So on offense, I'm going to go with Jack Indries
the transfer tight end. I think that the offensive potency
of that position was a little bit in question. I
think they liked what they had with Jordan Washington, but
he had a shoulder injury, and of course, you know
we haven't seen it from him, We've seen it from

(23:16):
Jack injuries. He's someone who has a lot of receiver capabilities,
can do what he needs to do in the blocking game.
And has a skill set as a tight end. You know,
blocking that will be pretty well. It'll fit well with
what arch Manning can do with his legs. So I'm
looking forward to hearing what he's able to do in
the Texas system and Texas strength and conditioning to get

(23:38):
him ready to probably be tight end one. As far
as on defense, you know, I'd like to hear about
Cole Brevard. I remember I had someone who got to
see a scrimmage earlier in the spring tell me they
really like what Brevard was able to do and the
impact he could have on plays. But he's listed at
about sixty three three point fifty and he played a

(24:00):
lot of Big ten football, so it's a little cooler.
He's used to getting thirty snaps a game, but I'm
not sure if he's getting used to thirty snaps a
game in the Texas heat. Well, there's one way to
get ready for There's one way to get ready for that,
and that's the run in the Texas heat. And I
want to be able to I want to hear over
the course of the summer that, you know, for someone
who is that size and has the responsibilities he has,

(24:22):
he's probably playing nose tackle. He's gonna be able to
go and get in as much as he quick cawsking
the defense needs on a down and down basis.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
In the fall, Mark.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Talked about jack injuries as well, so he was excited
to hear about that.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Cole Brovard is somebody that.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Texas obviously is going to need some help on that
defensive line, and that is why they went out and
tried to get all those transfers. On offense, I had
Ryan Wingo and Parker Livingston, and on defense, I had
Malik Muhammad and Trey Moore moving two week side linebacker.
And let me ask you about Malik Muhammad, because he

(25:03):
is somebody. When he was coming out of high school,
I thought he was gonna be one of those guys
that could be in that long line of DBU. Now
bringing in the the guru of dB U in in
uh Duayne a Quina, I believe that this is going
to take Malik Muhammad to another level.

Speaker 8 (25:26):
Yeah, through somebody who knows about putting players in the league.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
It's it's Dwayne and Kena.

Speaker 8 (25:31):
And one of the things I'm sure Duayne a Quina
would tell you is that it's it's not all him
you know, he he. I think every coach who has
a lot of high level pupils will tell you that,
you know, I'm here to give you the tools.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
You got to use them.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
And one thing about me Malik Muhammad is he's got
the tools and he's got the motivation. I think as
far as players who arrived on campus with a I'm
getting to the league mindset, he was one of them.
Doesn't mean he's a perfect player. I always saw him
have his struggles last year in the playoffs and you know,

(26:06):
at other various structures, but that Malik Mohammad's one of
the more motivated players on the team.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
You know, whatever that motivation is, it's still motivation.

Speaker 8 (26:16):
And uh, you know, I think he's one of those
guys who can look around and see Dwayne and Kena
and know that, hey, this guy's what taught However many
thorpe board winners now three I think it is right,
and you know, put so many people into the league,
not only from Texas but from Arizona and Stanford that okay,
maybe I should hear what this guy has to say.
And not to say he's not, but he's like, maybe

(26:37):
I should hear what this guy has to tell me
if I you know my next step it wants to
be shaking Roger Goodell's hand.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Jilli'all talked about some of the smaller guys on the field.
I want to talk about some of the bigger guys
on the field. I'm a sizes yes, I am, just
as Terry. How hard is it going to keep be
to keep him off the field with his athleticism at
his side as one and two, just the suddenness and
handwork that he has.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
Yeah, I think that of the freshman defensive tackles, he's
the one that's gonna see action. I think he probably
had I don't want to say guys who jumped him
in line, but made his path a little bit, you know,
more challenging because of competition, all the transfer defensive tackles.
But I mean, let's let's be honest. We know what

(27:26):
a big factor in his recruitment was. It's a big
factor and a lot of different recruitments and in modern
college football, and there's those are guys that you don't
want sitting on the bench, you know, just being on
campus and uh, you know, not not performing for whatever reason,
even though you got a lot of tied up into him.

(27:48):
So I think that that's somebody who obviously did the
other aspect of this. He's got to have the talent
to be able to play, and he does have that.
I'm curious what exactly he does. I think it may
be we may see him in a little bit more,
you know, specialized situations pass rushing than being a down
to down defensive tackle. At this point, his special gifts

(28:12):
and skills just are his size. Like he man, I
don't know who to compare him to, but you know,
he makes you'll get this one. He makes big Ee
look small when you see pictures of him. And so
he's he is physically built for you know, an eight seventeen,
eighteen year old, built up and down his body, not

(28:34):
just in the upper body, you know, very big, big arms.
But we'll see, you know, he comes from Georgia to
a football and he may not have really had to
have much hand placement and you know, working on pass
rush moves and stuff like that when he's going against
kids who's main concern is reading pride and prejudice for
the text tests the next day.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
So we'll see on that.

Speaker 8 (28:56):
But I think he's just got so many different his
gifts are so tremendous, and you know, the effort that
Texas put into Landing was so high that he's going
to have some involvement on this year's team. And I
wouldn't be surprised if it's like a specialty situation pass rushing,
third down things like that, where either he maybe lines

(29:17):
up over tackle or he's there pushing guards around.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Yeah, and you definitely have to remember.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
I love the fact that you pointed out where he
came from and the level in which he was playing,
because sometimes you need a little bit more time to
get caught up to what everybody else is doing.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
Joe.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Before we let you go, man, I wanted to ask
you your thoughts on the Texas baseball season. Obviously you
didn't cover the team as much as you used to,
but you're a baseball fan. You're a Texas baseball fan,
and I wanted to catch your thoughts on the season.

Speaker 8 (29:52):
You know, if you think about where we may have
thought this team would have ended up in January, they
probably didn't up where a lot of the fans expected that.
I don't think people may have thought that, you know,
the SEC championship would be on the table in year one,
that a possible number one overall seed would be on
the table in year one, and they went and grabbed that.

(30:14):
But in the end that the year probably ended where
a lot of people thought year one might end under
Jim Slasnagel. And you know, when you're first place in
the SEC, when you reach number one, your goals change.
You're like, okay, well let's go make a run. But
you know that went between losing Jared Spencer, losing Max Blue,
guys getting banged up just left and right, whether that

(30:37):
be guys like Adrian Rodriguez East and Mendoza Jonah Williams.
They had to overcome a lot and at a certain
point they just didn't have the guys up and down
the roster to be able to overcome everything. And Jim
Schwassnagle even pointed to that. He said, look, we've got
a great front line right now, but my goal here
and one thing that I think we need to address is.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
Finding more depth. And that proved to be true.

Speaker 8 (31:02):
And at the same time, you know, they also faced
the utsa team that was within the top twenty five
for most of the year, that won its regular season title,
that came in hot and and played really well, it's
not like they lost to a four seed or anything
like that, like our friends over in Nashville did. They
They lost to a two seed in a competitive region.

(31:24):
Doesn't lessen the sting or the disappointment of getting knocked out.
But I think what we've seen is that you know
what's needed to win, you know, at a high level,
not just in the league, but going forward as depth
guys that you can have and rely on in case,
you know, you lose your Friday Night starter for the year,
you lose a Conference Player of the year.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Those are obviously big holes.

Speaker 8 (31:45):
But then you know, when your center fielder or one
of your infielders is, you know, going through a rough stretch,
you you need to have a guy who can come
in and maybe give him a break and give him
some opportunity to write himself. That's where it's important too.
They did not have that this year. They had to
continue to play a lot of guys who went through

(32:06):
their ups, but went through a lot more downs. And
that's part of the reason why Texas is sitting at
home right now. So all in all, I think it
was a gear one that made a lot of progress
for the program. I know, as next year went on,
expectations got higher, but it probably ended about where it
should and it's setting the table for what's supposed to

(32:26):
be an important summer via the portal, the draft, the
high school ranks, all that for Sasnagel and company.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Yeah, they got a lot of work to do, and
as he said in his post game, it started yesterday.
So we'll see how it all happens and where it
all closes out. As always, Joe, appreciate you hopping on
with us, man, Thank you for the Inside Absolutely guys,
all right there, he is Joe Cook, Inside Texas. Make
sure you follow that Joseph Cook eighty nine. When we

(32:54):
come back, we'll talk a little Texas baseball. Some guys
are in the portal and we'll talk it right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
This is a great stuff.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
By Joe Cook of Inside Texas as he breaks down
and gave us a couple of players that he looks
forward to seeing. Jack Injuries and Cole Brevard on the
defensive line. Injuries at the tight end position, same guy
that Mark Henry wanted to talk about as well. Coming
up in the next hour, we will visit revisit our

(33:29):
NFL conversation that we had yesterday and given update from
Michael Irvin as Michael Irvin got a chance to go
to Cowboys camp and.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Find out a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
But we were talking Texas baseball with Joe Cook at
the end of that and the Texas baseball season came
up a little bit short. Coach Losnego still, you know,
as the season started, he told us, and we've had
some conversations on and off air about keeping the guys together.
If the core guys can come in and stay healthy,

(34:04):
they believe that Texas could go on a deep run
into the college baseball season.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
They did.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
They end up winning the SEC, but then they had
to deal with the injuries some in which Joe just
talked about. Well, now they're dealing with the transfer portal.
There are some guys that got into the transfer portal
from the University of Texas yesterday that are are trying
to find a place to play as of yesterday. Sam

(34:35):
or excuse me, Seth Wirchum is a left handed out,
a left fielder. Excuse me, he's a left fielder. He
is going to be a senior, and he is looking
he already found a new school and he's going to VCU.
George Zaharis, a left handed pitcher, is joining into the
transfer portal and he will start looking for a new school.

(34:59):
Donovan Jordan and Matthew Scott the second, are both outfielders.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
They have entered.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
They were some of the top players in the state
of Texas as they were coming up, so they will
be looking for a new home. And Chance Covert the
second left handed pitcher out of Westlake. He is now
entered into the transfer portal. The transfer portal opened yesterday.
There is going to be a ton of names. It

(35:26):
will be, you know, be a ton of names to
that will be entering the transfer portal as well, so
it'll be interesting to see where everybody ends up. There's
some big names, some small names, some big school players
that are going to be moving around, some wake forward,
some utsa. There's so many guys that are gonna be

(35:50):
in this transfer portal. And I don't know if you
remember we talked about basketball transfer portal. There were forty
two hundred players that got into the D one D
to transfer portal, and I don't see it being any
small number coming from a lot of those guys in
the ACC, the SEC, the Big Ten, Big twelve, all that,

(36:14):
because there's a lot of coaches that are gonna be
moving as well. Coaches are finding ways in different places
to go. So now you start to say, all right,
let's see where some of these players end up.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
You think it's gonna be over two thousand.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Oh for sure? For sure, there might be two thousand
by a week's end.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Yeah, because I mean there's some players that are on
teams right now that haven't had any time. And I'm
looking at a matter of fact, you said, what you
do you think it'll be over two thousand? Is twenty
one hundred already almost twenty two hundred players are in
the transfer port. That is absolutely absurd. Yeah, I mean

(36:56):
that's the new way of life. I have a couple
of people sending me information about players, like I.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Can do something. I can't do anything. I mean, you
know a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
I know people, but they might be able to help
some people out.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
I'm sorry. Guys like.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
You send me all the film you want. All I
can do is tell you, okay, I'll see if I
can get it to them.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
I looked at it. Thank you for letting me look
at it. Appreciate it. Yeah, but you know, the way
that the game has changed is an opportunity for most
that they think is going to be elsewhere. The one
thing that I continue to try to tell people is
if you are looking to move and you are a

(37:47):
Division one player, I would encourage you not to always
think that you need to be at the highest Division
one school, because not only are you being looked at
by them, somebody else is being looked at.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
They're trying to recruit high level players.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
And if you're not that guy and you get an
opportunity to go elsewhere, I will kind of gauge where
my opportunity where I can play.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
As opposed to being a part of some big, giant conglomerate.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
They said, if you build it, they will come. If
you are good enough, they will find you. Trust me,
it happens. There's people that are being found. Reese Atwood
to catch it for the University of Texas.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Is it from a town of three hundred people?

Speaker 1 (38:37):
A town of three hundred is she said, records at
the University of Texas. You can play. They will find you.
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is right around the corner. Don't go anywhere and tell
your friends. AM thirteen hundred The Zone Welcome back to
a Texas Tuesday edition of the morning kick Off right

(39:00):
here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Mike Harball hars.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
World's Strongest Man, WWE Hall of Famer d Mark Henry,
and of course we've got our guy Marcus behind the
boards and our number one. We talked about Texas Texas
Softball advancing two the College World Series Championship with a
two to nothing victory over the Tennessee Volunteers Katie Stewart

(39:28):
with the home run and Mac Morgan with a great start,
followed by Teagankavan coming in to close out the ball
game to preserve the shutout. Now Texas will take on
a familiar foe, somebody that advanced and now have used

(39:48):
all of the money to get themselves into the College
World Series Championship Series.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
It's the best two.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Out of three Texas Tech Slaye Oaklan Lahoma yesterday in
a game that it's Oklahoma. Is that that team, that bug,
that driven organization that you just continue to look at
and you're like, it's like a scary movie. You're looking

(40:20):
at Oklahoma and you're like, are you sure that they're dead?
Are you sure? You out there like, yeah, I don't
see him, and then you turn around and the right
in front of you, like Freddy Krueger, They're like they're
they're in your nightmares for real and you don't even

(40:41):
live on Elm Street and you worried about it. But
they finally Texas Tech finally gets the job done and
knocks out Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
And we were gonna talk. We're gonna talk about.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
SEC and and the regionals and the super Regionals that
are now going on right now.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
But you look at what Oklahoma was able to do.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
And this is not a love fest for Oklahoma, So
don't get it twisted. But when you gotta pay respect,
you put respect on their name. And what we have
seen from Oklahoma from twenty twenty one until last night,
they were the NCAA champions in softball. They have gone

(41:30):
and won the World Series from twenty twenty one, twenty
twenty two, twenty twenty three, and twenty twenty four. So
when you say they slayed the Giant, exactly what they did.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
And you too, right could have a first if you
go for the lolo sum of one million dollars, that's right,
Kennedy won one million, fifty and twenty four dollars changed.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
She said, I put the twenty four on there because
that's my number. Come on, man, she got a million dollars,
she got fifty thousand for living expenses in twenty four
because that's her favorite.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
Thomb them to bring me my money.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
But to your point, if you're willing to invest, this
is what you get. This is the first time they've
ever that people have ever talked about Texas Tech Softball
ever ever. First first, first, first everything, everything's there first.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
But again, let's get back to it.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Texas back to back appearances in the College Championship. They
are going back to the promise Land, and now they
don't have to face their arch nemesis. Now they just
got to face their hated opponent.

Speaker 10 (43:09):
You said, like you said the home second, you said
that like they didn't.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
Well, I mean, I'm talking about for the championship, okay,
for the championship, for the chance.

Speaker 10 (43:17):
Man.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
I told you I was having trouble sleeping at night
after after the loss that we took, because it wasn't
just a loss, it was to take this with you whooping.

Speaker 3 (43:28):
They all got a whooping, all right.

Speaker 2 (43:29):
Be quiet, stop crying for I give you something to
cry about.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Whooping.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
I would concur with that assessment my friends, and we
was able to get that off our chest. And so
I'm I'm I'm happy for them. I'm proud of them
being able to come back and not be afraid but
step up to the moment. And that's that's all you
really want out of your team after you take a loss.
I mean sometimes they say you not really, You're not

(43:57):
really ready for the grind until you take a loss.

Speaker 10 (44:00):
Would you rather them have won the way they won
or would you rather them been like in Texas Tech
situation and be the team to put them out?

Speaker 3 (44:09):
No, I'd rather be where it was right right right? Yeah.
I don't want it to.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
Come down to because of Oklahoma Magic Hard has been
talking about they.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Always find a way. Man. You said, since twenty one
twenty one, they've been the national championship.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
They are the national champions Yeah, since twenty twenty one
seasons without losing.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
Yeah, I'm like, how.

Speaker 2 (44:36):
Many How do you often do you get to say that, Oh, yeah,
we went undefeated again again. Yeah, and that's crazy. Yeah,
so it was impressive. Yeah, I'm telling you, I'm when
that home run got hit yesterday. I said, well, I
be damned right they Hart was right. I threw my

(44:59):
pillow across the room.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Bro it was the last.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
It was.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
Gonna be her hundredth pitch. And I heard the announcer saying,
can she do it with her one hundredth pitch? And
you said Noah. I was like no, because they have
to be gone again. You have to get them right now.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
And I'm on the phone texting with Michelle McCool, the
Undertaker's wife, who played back played softball at Florida State,
and she said, can you believe this?

Speaker 3 (45:37):
I can't believe it. But Harge told me never count
them out.

Speaker 1 (45:42):
Ever, ever, until now you can count them by say.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
Hey, y'all, y'all tell you what the Bahamas look like.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
They all can coony. So now we have Texas versus
uh Texas Tech rivalry game rivalry series, and we ain't
wait for it.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
It will start Wednesday night.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
In college baseball, a lot of the Superregionals were announced
last night. There were some games that the what if
games and here's where they were. But now Miami will
now go on to face Louisville Miami, whose program was
left for dead, left for dead, have now found a

(46:24):
way to get it done. My good friend of mine,
jd Archeega is the head coach there and he has
turned that program around and here they are making it
to the superregionals. Florida State will take on Oregon Oregon,
a team that I saw earlier this year that everybody
thought was gonna be a team that could get to Omaha.

(46:45):
They will now take on Florida State. Arizona will take
on North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Coastal Carolina out of
the Sunbelt will take on Auburn out of the SEC.
They will be hosted in Auburn. UTSA the team that
knocked Texas out of us.

Speaker 3 (47:07):
You can say, I know it's hard.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
They knocked us out of it. They will now take
on UCLA. UCLA wins the LA Regional, so UTSA will
now go out to LA and the Durham Regional Super Regional.
Excuse me, the Murray State Racers. That's right, Murray State
Mid Major will now take on Duke in Durham Baton

(47:32):
Rouge Regional Super Regional. West Virginia will take on LSU
and the Fight of All fights in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The
Tennessee volunteers will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in each
of these series.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
Two wins get you to Omaha.

Speaker 1 (47:54):
And let me just tell you this, there were thirteen
national seeds coming out of the SEC. There's only four
that is left to carry that torch of the SEC.
Arkansas was number three, Auburn was number four, LSU was number.

Speaker 3 (48:17):
Six, and Tennessee was number fourteen.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
Arkansas swept Texas, Auburn got swept by Texas, LSU got
beat by Texas, and Tennessee beat Texas to knock them
out of the SEC tournament. So a lot going on
in college baseball. We are closer and closer to Omaha.

(48:43):
I saw my boy Nash canceled his room in Omaha
the other day and it looked like it hurt him.
It looked like, yeah, to not be able to go
to Omaha.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
Man, God, Lee, I feel bad for all of those
people that, you know, the hope floats and and win it.
It just has floated right away.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:09):
It was a tough tough one to take because you
sit and you look and you watch some of these
other teams that got away to advance. But the top
two seeds both SEC teams Vanderbilt and the University of
Texas now have to watch from afar, and I don't
know very many people that are going to be watching.

(49:31):
But now you get a chance to see Texas softball,
Texas Tech. They get to battle it out starting tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
We'll have all of.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
The information, all the pregame, post game, and all the
conversation as the week goes on. But coming up next,
we're going in f L Dallas Cowboys, George Pickens picks
his number, and we'll follow up on Stefon Diggs and
boat Gate with Cardi b right here on the morning

(50:03):
kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. I
just want to I'm gonna talk some NFL in just
a minute. But I was just telling Mark and Marcus
to look up this kid and we'll talk about him
another time because he's also being recruited by Texas and
a bunch of other schools, so when that time happens

(50:25):
for football, but he also wants to be a basketball
player as well, So we'll talk about him in just
a minute, but not in just a minute a while,
But I wanted to talk NFL because the NFL is
starting to really, really heat up. The off season is
just that, but they're having OTAs we're getting closer and

(50:47):
closer to the season getting ready to start.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
And we talked yesterday, so get over to.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
Our podcast page and everything else that go onto that
AM thirteen hundredth Zone dot Com always free on the
iHeart app and all our.

Speaker 3 (51:06):
Social media pages.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
At AM thirteen hundred we talked about the situation in
New England with Stefon Diggs. Stefon Diggs was seen on
the boat partying with a narcotic and a legal substance,
whatever it may be. But the thing is, you want
to make sure that you stay away from controversy. And

(51:30):
what I mean by that is the situation with Stefon
Diggs in his history. When he was in Minnesota, that
didn't end well. When he left the Vikings, when he
went to Buffalo, that didn't end well, and things kind
of went the other way. He left Houston because of injury,
and now he's in New England and we all know

(51:51):
that New England is a buttoned up organization. Well this
is Scott Zolac who Zolac used to play hey for
the New England Patriots, and this is kind of what
got this discussion going on because he talked about this
on his radio show in New England.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
Do you think Diggs should be cut? I think he
should be cut at you, I don't, I do not.
I came to this show yesterday with the.

Speaker 11 (52:20):
Opinion, not opinion, but the knowledge of that that it
is on the table, that it is being thought of.
And it's not just the boat. It's not just the boat.
There's some other things that I've heard. That's all that
put some things in question. Are you all in? Are

(52:42):
you all in here?

Speaker 1 (52:43):
And that's been a question that they have had in
New England about are you all in?

Speaker 3 (52:50):
You're doing some other things?

Speaker 1 (52:51):
Well, all he did was shut some people up because
he showed up at camp yesterday started practicing, and let
me be honest with you, he looks like he might
be in the best shape of his professional career. He
looked explosive, and he is already being a leader and
teaching some of the young players what they're supposed to

(53:15):
be doing.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Now. Off season is off season.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
This is a guy that tours ACL and he looks
better than some of the guys that have not tours ACL.

Speaker 3 (53:27):
Let's just put it like that. I'm gonna tell you
that that cocaine died is not good.

Speaker 2 (53:31):
I mean, what are you doing That guy cannot If
it was me hard he might be out because I
don't want to set the message to the rest of
my team.

Speaker 3 (53:44):
That, you know what, if you're really good, we'll look
over your problems.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
But and that's that's kind of what it looks like
right now. Oh, he's a vet, he's really good. We
paid it, we paid an exorbitant amount of money.

Speaker 3 (53:59):
Let's let's just keep it where it is.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
And that's not that's not that's not a good message
of saying too, especially.

Speaker 3 (54:07):
A new organization. This is new. This ain't the same
old Patriots, all.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
Right, This this is Rabel has got to set his
mark of what he thinks the team should look like.
And and is that and that's where you want to start. No,
you don't want to start there.

Speaker 1 (54:25):
Well, that's why you you You have to understand exactly
what the expectations are for this organization, this team, and
more importantly, what your guy is now looking at now.
Stefan Diggs, new to the organization, may not have known
all the ins and outs. Un As you said, it's

(54:49):
a new team. It is Mike Vrabel's team. It's not
Bill Belichick. No, so Rabel may be able to calm
the waters and away that. Hey, look, as long as
you know, I was asked this yesterday, what would you do?
I said, I would test him, and if he comes

(55:09):
back dirty, he's gotta go. Okay, I mean if yeah,
if he's not done anything. Just because he had it,
don't mean it was like he was using it. Some
people bring party favors, and so I would Although the
optics looked.

Speaker 3 (55:28):
Awful, let's see what it is. You see him wiping
his nose, right, You didn't see him consume anything.

Speaker 10 (55:35):
And so at the same time, when we watched the video,
you can kind of hear him say to one of
the girl he hands it to. It's like he's asking,
what is this? So he might have been just ignorant
of the whole situation.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
Somebody might have handed him to Trey right right, right.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
So there's so many different things that can pay play
a role in this situation.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
So that's why you try to figure out. Okay, he
showed up.

Speaker 1 (56:01):
Looked healthy, looked great, ran routes teaching, and was being
a leader not a follower. So you just look at
it and go from there. So that's how that's how
I'm gonna treat it.

Speaker 3 (56:13):
That's how I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
View it. And if they're gonna handle it that way.
We haven't heard from the NFL. You haven't heard from anybody.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
So it's another case of being guilty until approved.

Speaker 3 (56:28):
Innocent, perfect example.

Speaker 10 (56:30):
Yeah, but the NFL do work behind you know, behind
the scenes. Yeah, we don't know if he hasn't heard
from the NFL. It's just not public that he's heard
from the NFL most of the time.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
Yeah, as much as they want to work behind the scenes,
you and I all know, it would have leaked somewhere
that the NFL is investigating the situation.

Speaker 3 (56:52):
And now we wait.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
If I'm coach, I'm sending my guide to his house, right,
I know exactly what this cut?

Speaker 3 (57:02):
Please?

Speaker 1 (57:02):
Yeah, boy, they're gonna show up with it already because
they hadn't already got it from somebody else, and they say,
all right, you got get back in there, don't let.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
It happen again, and we'll go from there. Take all
the phones off the boat, please exactly.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
And that's the other question. People commented, like, who is
the dummy that is filming now? And that would post it,
that would post it. But were we both You know,
we talked about this before. Everybody is not for you.

Speaker 10 (57:29):
Yeah, we talked about the John Rant situation earlier in
the year.

Speaker 3 (57:33):
This is different.

Speaker 10 (57:34):
At least that was Instagram live. This was actually recorded
and then posted.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
That's exactly. Yeah, you could have deleted that for sure.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
So yeah, we don't see what ends up happening, but
it just wanted to give you an update on that.
Also wanted to give you an update on the Dallas Cowboys.
Michael Irvin was in camp and obviously you know Michael
is a Dallas Cowboy fan and so he's gonna do
it everything he possibly can to pump up the Cowboys.
But one of the biggest things is about George Pickens

(58:05):
and what he brings to the team. It came out
yesterday George Pickens number will be number three.

Speaker 3 (58:12):
He's not gonna wear thirteen. He just wear that for camp.

Speaker 12 (58:15):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (58:15):
Now you can order your George Pickens jersey. And here's
what Michael Irvin had to say about the Cowboys, the
New Cowboys, and what he thought about George Pickens.

Speaker 3 (58:25):
I got the.

Speaker 12 (58:26):
Tyler Boys right now, you know Titler boys got a
the line looking like they're looking. I'm telling y'all, I
walked out of there really excited about this season. And
I'm gonna tell you a lot of people gonna be sleeping,
gonna be sleeping like I don't know what.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
You go sleep, and then we gonna creep. Right, everybody's
telling them about.

Speaker 12 (58:52):
Why Shoulton theybody tell him about feeling death for you.

Speaker 3 (58:55):
And then the Cowboys got the hardest gaget we.

Speaker 13 (58:58):
Ever seen one. I just about to be on Mike go,
oh my god, no, no, no, no, no, no. What's
all trying to do When you're saying all of that
is create there's fear and anxiety. But what I saw today.

Speaker 12 (59:20):
Was what I needed to see, so I get to
it's trying to.

Speaker 1 (59:24):
Grab Hey, let me tell you somebody has dumb bleatings.
Yeah we did. But here's here's the other part of this.
Michael Irvin. Michael Irvin might have been on that boat
steps Oh my god, Michael Irvin might have been on
that boat with Stephon dick.

Speaker 2 (59:46):
Hey, listen, we don't know what happened with Diggs, but
we all know what happened man. Michael Weiderman was impaired
in this video and in this sound right here, the
first the first ten seconds, I had no idea what
he was saying.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
That was not he It was not English.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
He said, you got all of stop going, what what
are we talking about?

Speaker 3 (01:00:12):
What are we talking about? Oh? Bless his heart.

Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Yeah, he is one of those guys that you always
got to.

Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
Pay much attention to.

Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
And uh, yeah, he's he's got a lot to learn,
that's Michael. But coming us next, wee to learn a
lot from the one and only Mark Henry as he
brings us his world's strongest take right here on the
morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred. Liz on

(01:00:41):
the beat is hitting, and so is this commentary. You
know what it means when it starts to play. W
W Hall of Famer and World's Strongest Man, Deve Mark
Henry brings you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
Take it away, big fellow, Right, what's up? You know
what time it is?

Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Thomas His time for the world's strongest take by the
world's strongest Man. My guess back then they didn't know me.
Now I'm hot, they all on me. See what what
had happened was?

Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Uh? Anyway, we're gonna go past that, guys. My take today.

Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
Is that the Philadelphia seventy six Ers need to trade
Paul George. And you might say why Mark, Why, Well,
let me tell you. Paul George. Actually, guys, was at
the Indiana Pacers, and they traded Paul George to the

(01:01:52):
Oklahoma City Thunder, and then of course the Oklahoma City's
Thunder traded him. Everywhere that Paul George has been traded,
the teams came out like Gangbusters, Indianapolis.

Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
Or the Indiana Pacers. They ended up getting.

Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
A haul which included the trade for Sabonas that ended
up getting the Tyresse Halliburton.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
And then you go.

Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
From his trade from the Clippers to Oklahoma City or
vice versa, and they ended up getting Shake Gildgris Alexander,
the two stars going into this Wednesday, this Thursday's Final,
both stars came from the Paul George trade. And not

(01:03:01):
only that, but both teams had about three first round
draft picks that turned into other outstanding players. Those outstanding
players one is Jay will who is on the same
team with Shay Gilders, Alexander and the second star of

(01:03:21):
that team along with Chet Hogrin. Those guys make up
the bulk of the stars in the final all came
from the Paul George trades. So that being said, the

(01:03:42):
Philadelphia seventy six ers has Paul George on their team.
Guess what's happening right now? Along a lot of under
the radar talk about giannis Ante Takumpo being traded from
the Milwaukee Bucks, there's also a lot of under the
table talk about out Paul George going to Houston, Paul

(01:04:03):
George going to Dallas, Paul George going to San Antonio,
Paul George going to several other teams.

Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
I say, do it, listen, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
And make that trade, because you are gonna attain something.
It's something magic about trading Paul George. You trade Paul George,
you are gab as. Charles Barker would say, gabrone t
to get something of value. Harge would say.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
You, well, it's funny that you say that, and you
bring that up, because there was a discussion that was
made about the history of Paul George.

Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
Where he's gone, where he's.

Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Been, in the expectations of those around him. You know,
the funny part is you you look at when people
do that. Let's trade future picks first rounders twenty five,
twenty six, twenty seven. You get those first round picks,

(01:05:12):
but you're able to build around those picks. You're not
trading them off like you like to do. You got
all these extra picks, go ahead and trade them. No,
keep them all because you build from within your organization
and you find each piece that matters to what you're

(01:05:32):
trying to do. You go and get a point guard
your first year, You go and get a big man
your second year.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
You get a slasher the third year.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
In that draft, and now you have formulated your quote
unquote dream team.

Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Okasee has their dream team right now.

Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Indiana Pacers have their team now from the picks of
Paul George because they went out and did it the right.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
What they did, do it the right way.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
And one of the things that everybody's saying with Paul
George is everybody that got rid of him paid.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Cash considerations too, so they were.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Able to get You know, right now, Paul George has
two hundred and twelve million dollars allocated to him, so
nobody wants to take on that money. So you're gonna
have to give me seventy five million off of that,
like you got to take some of this whooping. I'm
not gonna take it off. And the other thing is
is the you in in the NBA as opposed to

(01:06:37):
any other league.

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
They don't do it in.

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Baseball, they don't do it in hockey, they don't do
it in football. You could do trade swaps, so you
can actually say, well, we want the trade swap option.
So in case you get a draft pick that's number
six and we get one that's thirteen, we want George
and you take hours. But that that's where the benefit

(01:07:02):
of the Paul George saga has taken place because two
of those picks, Jay will came in a switch. They
got a seven or six where he was picked, and
they took on that twenty something pick.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
So like that, that's that's what to do.

Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
I think, Uh, seventy six ers. If y'all are listening,
this is the move to make the seventy six ers.

Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
If y'all are listening, they have.

Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
Matter of fact, they got two j Williams Jalen Williams
in the same draft from from those picks. Yes, two
guys that Jaylen Williams from the same draft and they're
really good.

Speaker 10 (01:07:44):
So what I'm getting from this is I should go
to Vegas or some sports book right now and bet
one hundred on the Clippers to win the Finals next year,
plus three thousand if.

Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
They trade him.

Speaker 10 (01:07:55):
If they trade the Clippers already traded them. No, no,
the yeah, but was a Clipper. He was a Clipper.
He got traded from the Clippers to Philly.

Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
So oh, so you know what, you might be right, Yeah,
it might be the Clippers next year.

Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
They're gonna have trade James Harden too though, so well,
his story is not the same as Paul.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
He got the worst. He's the worst. He's the counter ballance.
That's why you don't. That's why you don't because they
were both on the same team.

Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
Don't do that. Don't.

Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
Oh, oh my goodness, great conversation on the world's Strongest thing.
When we come back, we'll close out the show and
send you to damn Patrick major League Baseball. They've got
a title run that is in the making. And guess what.
The same two stars are leading both of those teams.

(01:08:49):
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff

go see Breaking Benjamin in three days Grace September third
at the Moody Center. Make sure you tune into Craig
Way and Cam Parker this afternoon as you get a
chance to win another pair of tickets for another concert
that we are giving you the opportunity to attend. I

(01:16:25):
wanted to talk MLB because we've been kind of holding
that back a little bit and giving you updates periodically,
and right now I want to get into the fact
that the LA Dodgers, that's right, Craig Way's team continues
to lead the NL West. They're leading by one game.
They're thirty six and twenty four. The Padres are thirty

(01:16:48):
four in twenty four, one game behind them, and they
continue to roll on. And one of the things that
I wanted to make sure that I pointed out when
you start looking at me League Baseball, there's two names
that always come to the front of mind, Show.

Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
Hal Tani and Aaron Judge.

Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Aaron Judge and Show hal Tani are two of the
biggest names in the game. Shoe hal Tany has twenty
three home runs thirty nine RBIs. He has two ninety
two batting average and eleven stolen bases, and his team
is thirty six and twenty four.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
Former MVP yans Is Sho hal Tani has twenty one
home runs, fifty RBIs and is batting three ninety one.
His team is thirty six and twenty two and in
first place in the Al East.

Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
But the thing about both.

Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
Of these guys is they're both the reigning MVPs. They
both have shown up to lead their team day in
in day out. Show hal Tony has been batting leadoff.
That's why he's got twenty three home runs with just
thirty nine RBIs because when he comes up, he normally

(01:18:09):
hitn't lead off home runs, so he's only driving in
that one run. But he continues to be the feature
of the Dodgers and let's not forget they believe that
he is going to be pitching after the All Star break.
So is that why they have him at leadoff? Like,

(01:18:29):
why wouldn't you put somebody in front of him, Well,
because you have to pitch to him to lead the
game off. So I mean, you want to make sure
your best player get the most at bats that he
can possibly get in a game. And so when you
start to look at who these players are, what they've
been able to achieve in the stats that they put up,

(01:18:50):
now you understand why these two players are the MVPs
of their respective clubs. They continue to bang the baseball,
they can continue to be disciplined. For the whole month
of May, my Aaron Judge was batting over four hundred.
I mean, think about that, We're about to get into

(01:19:12):
the All Star break and this dude is still being
able to lead his team in bat four hundred. That
means he's not getting very many pitches. You have a
guy in Paul Goldschmidt on the team who is setting
a tone for you, setting a table as a big
leadoff hitter, as the first baseman, he's batting three thirty three.

(01:19:36):
You got Judge batting three ninety one now, and then
you have Rice behind him that is helping pitches be
pitched to Aaron Judge. So this is a totally different squad.
The Yankees are are for real. They're pitching staff with
Max Fried has kind of changed the approach, but they've

(01:19:58):
been very consistent all year long.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Well, I'm very happy with it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
I mean to be able to have a streak at
one point where they were six and you know, six
games in a row. I didn't get to watch last
night because I had to go to bed, but you know,
I'll find out what happened last night.

Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
You actually went to bed, you know how you like
to stay up late at night.

Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
No, oh, that's good. Well, just so you.

Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Know, the Yankees didn't play last night, so you didn't
miss anything, thank god. So you'll be able to check
them out today. They will be playing this afternoon or
this tonight at six o'clock against the Guardians. The Guardians
are thirty two and twenty six, so that, yeah, that'll
be a tough, tough matchup for the Yankees. And the

(01:20:44):
Dodgers will take on the Mets, and the Mets are
and Clayton Kershaw will be making a start.

Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
But the Mets are.

Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
The story that is very very interesting to me, and
the reason why is because they still are leading the Nlies.
There are thirty eight and twenty two winners of four straight.
But Juan Soto has not been good for them at all.

Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
Like at one point he had.

Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
To be talked to about disciplinary reasons. So now he
is starting to understand what it's like to be a Met,
to not be a to not be a Yankee, to
not have a Aaron Judge on your side. But Francisco Lindor,
he's been doing great. Soto's hitting two thirty four as

(01:21:35):
we speak, with forty two strikeouts. He does have seven
stolen bases, but he only has ten home runs. He's
having to adjust to National League pitching again because he
was facing American League pitching, so he has to a
judge now, and so it's going to be very interesting
to see if he can catch fire to help this
team get to the finish line.

Speaker 3 (01:21:57):
In that league.

Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
The pitching is that much better, No, it's just different.
You're not used to seeing. You don't have a book
on those types of pictures. When you are in a
certain league, you start developing a rapport and you know
how guys pitch you, So the adjustment and the other
part of it is you're on a new team, so
you're trying to figure out who's what, who's gonna protect you,

(01:22:19):
who's not gonna be protecting, who's gonna make some things happen.

Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
So it's a.

Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
Different, different type of football game, I mean baseball coach
me in. Yes, it's a lot of learning, a lot
of changing that goes on. As always, I want to
thank you the people for tuning in, for telling all
your friends our viewership is getting up, our follows up
are getting better, and of course we want to be
great for you.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
