(00:00):
Local Democrats in Harris County, Texastry to virtue signal against the state and
end up accomplishing really nothing at all. John Fetterman tries his best to become
the voice of the people at theUAW picket lines, and a man takes
to Reddit to vent about his dietarydisagreements with his wife. Let's jump right
in. In a world that's constantlybuzzing with updates, it's easy to feel

(00:22):
overwhelmed by the sheer volume of headlinesand information. That's why I'm here to
help you navigate the endless waves ofday to day updates. I'm Ethan Buchanan
and this is news Wave. Alrighty, welcome back in everybody. We are
going to start things off hot andheavy. Don't you love it when the

(00:44):
left just starts virtue signaling over nothingfor no good reason. Well, I
guess I shouldn't say nothing. It'sdefinitely something. They're definitely virtue signaling over
something. Here in Houston. There'sbeen a kind of minor news story,
but I think it's I think it'sworth discussing. It's it's not a huge
national headline, but it's it's definitelyinteresting to me and I think it does

(01:07):
a good job of kind of paintinga picture of where we're at. Harris
County Libraries declared quote book sanctuary amidstate crackdown. So basically what this is,
and this has been making the newshere locally in Houston for like the
last couple of days. We've got, of course, the culture wars rage
ever on, and we've got thequote unquote book bannings if you're not familiar,

(01:30):
Basically, it's state boards of educationsaying this book, this book,
and this book are not appropriate fora school library for whatever reason. It
could be anything. Now lately it'sbeen because these books are borderline, if
not openly pornographic, which I didn'tthink that was controversial. Used to be,

(01:51):
don't show porn to kids was likea pretty universal Okay, yeah,
we're on board with that, butno, now that's controvery herschell. But
these books that are being taken outof school libraries, emphasis on school libraries,
they are being basically, there's stateboards of education and of course they
don't say Gay Bill in Florida wasthe big kind of like flagship that the

(02:15):
left was attacking for this, butover the last couple of years there's been
a whole bunch of uproar from theright about normally they're kind of like LGBT
books that are incredibly inappropriate, ifnot borderline pornographic or full on pornographic.
And as this has kind of comeup, and this has become a big
deal, more and more, youhave different school boards and different or statewide

(02:39):
school boards and local school boards andeverything that are going in and saying these
books cannot be in the school libraries, or these books cannot be available to
a grade below here, because that'swhere we think these children are actually old
enough to kind of process these thingsproperly. And that's super, super controversial.

(03:02):
Apparently that's a big no no.That's book banning akin to Nazism,
which is just outright ridiculous. Sothe way they go about attacking this on
the left is they kind of phraseit like you're outright banning the book,
like actual Nazi style. You're notallowed to have this book in the county.

(03:23):
You're not allowed to have this bookin the country. And obviously people
lose their mind over that. Becausewe're about free speech in America. You're
not allowed to just go in andconfiscate books from people and pile them up
and burn them in the streets. You're not allowed to say in this territory,
you're not allowed to have this book. And that's not what's happening,

(03:46):
but that's what they're pretending it's happeningso that they can get people on board
with fighting it. So look forthat nonsense, and then we actually read
into those headlines, actually click thosearticles and read what they're actually saying.
Don't just read the headline, readdeep into it, because what you'll find
out is what's happening is they're justsaying you can't have this book available to

(04:08):
four year olds in the school librarybecause it's got drawings of two dudes having
sex in it, which is totallyreasonable. That is totally reasonable, and
anyone who is telling you it's notis at best lying to you for political
reasons. And I don't even wantto get into what the worst case scenario
is. But nowadays that's considered incrediblycontroversial, and the Democrat geniuses that are

(04:32):
running Harris County have made their bigvirtue signaling move to fight back against the
state of Texas's kind of crackdown onthose books in school libraries. So this
article from the Houston Chronicle says,Harris count of library is declared a quote
book sanctuary amidstate crackdown. The moveis meant to protect quote unquote endangered books

(04:54):
that are currently on the verge ofbeing banned in some institutions. So when
they say banned in some notice theheadlines is Harris County Libraries declared a book
sanctuary amid state crackdown. But youdon't see what's right below that currently on
the verge of being banned in someinstitutions by some institutions. What they mean

(05:15):
there is like middle school in kindergartenschool libraries, and I think some high
school school libraries, depending on whatthe age group is or what the grade
level is. I haven't read intothe specifics of the bill too far,
but the bill is in these schoollibraries, you can't have these books because
they're inappropriate for children, which isno more controversial than saying we should not

(05:40):
have fifty Shades of Gray in themiddle school library. How is that a
bad thing to say? But ifyou just read the headline and don't look
too far into it, it lookslike, oh my god, the evil
GOP in Texas is saying you can'thave these books in Texas, but luckily
Harris County has declared themselves a safezone. The good Democrats in Harris County

(06:04):
are stopping the evil GOP from banningthese books statewide. And then you click
on the article and you read literallythe second line and you realize that that's
nonsense. But let's take into thearticle a little bit more. All for
Harris County commissioners voted tuesday to turnthe Harris County public libraries into a book
sanctuary system. According to the resolution, the quote unquote book sanctuary distinction is

(06:28):
meant to combat censorship, defend intellectualfreedom, and protect the right to read.
So what this actually doesn't do iscombat the actual state law whatsoever.
They're acting like this is them takinga stand against this evil state law.
This actually would not interfere with theenforcement of that state law whatsoever, because
the public school libraries within Harris Countyand the Harris County, like the libraries

(06:56):
run by Harris County, are twocompletely different things. See, the libraries
of all these different schools are ranby each school district's school board, and
all those school boards are subject tothe rules and whatnot put forward by the
Texas Department of Education. They havenothing to do with the Harris County Public
library system, nothing at all.So all the books that they're supposedly trying

(07:19):
to protect from the evil GOP withthis new law, they're still not available
in the school libraries that they justgot kicked out of. The dirty secret
of this is it did nothing exceptvirtue signal, hence the name virtue signaling.
You're not actually taking a stand againstanything, you're not actually doing anything
productive. You're just creating an opportunityfor a headline that makes you look good.

(07:44):
That's all this is. And it'ssuch a cynical game to play.
But yeah, I really think thisparticular story is just a great example and
it really demonstrates the fact that atthe end of the day, the Democrats
really do care more about politics, like playing politics, rather than actually getting
things done, Because there are actualissues that the commissioners of Harris County could

(08:05):
be dealing with. Harris County, and specifically, the city of Houston in
Harris County is quickly becoming the nextSan Francisco or the next Los Angeles,
and we could be dealing with that, but instead we're just out here virtue
signaling and passing these resolutions and makingthese declarations that literally do absolutely nothing.

(08:28):
This whole article could have been summarizedby just riding breaking news. Harris County
commissioners maintain the status quo. That'sit. That's all they did here,
and they're acting like it's some bigstand for the First Amendment or for free
speech, and it's just not alrighty. Meanwhile, we've got the ongoing United

(08:48):
Auto Workers strike, and one thingthat I will give to the Democrats is
they really send their best people togo out and represent the unions. They
really stand with the working people, and they show that really well by just
sending their absolute most heavy hitters togo out and make the case for these
union workers. So here is PennsylvaniaSenator Democrat John Fetterman, who I don't

(09:11):
know what the look he's going for. It's somewhere between unemployed, fifty year
old divorce dad, and biker andhomeless man. It's like if you threw
all those three things into a potand jumble them together and then gave it
a stroke. You have John Fettermanhere, and you know what, I
don't want to spoil it for you. Let me just play the clip.

(09:33):
Let me hear it from the manhimself, from his own mouth, to
your ears, ladies and gentlemen,Senator John Fetterman, my message to the
CEO's the CEO's is, you knowit's seventy four million dollars, you know,
collectively earning that. You know howmany yachts can they need? You
know? You know they the waterSki behind it? You know, I

(09:56):
mean, it's just crazy. Youknow, I don't know, you're You're
exactly right, Senator Fetterman. Itis crazy. What's crazy? I have
no idea. I will give tendollars in cold hard cash to the first
person who can tell me what thatmeant. I have no clue what he
just said. What's I don't evenlike. The only words I got were

(10:18):
that's crazy and jet Ski behind it? Jet Ski behind what? John jet
Ski behind What? What does anyof that have to do with the United
Auto Workers strike which has been goingon for a week now. So when
Joe Biden sent his little buddy, his labor secretary, down to solve the
problems that is apparently not working, what a surprise. I mean, I'd

(10:41):
say, we just sit down FordGM Stalantis, the UAW President and John
Fetterman and just let them hash itout. I can't see how that would.
I feel like if we did that, this would be over tomorrow.
I mean, clearly, he's sucha strong communicator. I think he could
really he could really figure this out. But that's just me now. Of

(11:03):
course, you want to feel badfor John Fetterman because he did have a
stroke. He clearly does have somethingwrong with his brain. That's an objective
fact that you can put together justby observing him. Listen to him,
try to have a conversation, andyou can see that there's clearly something wrong

(11:24):
with him. This is not aperson who should be in the Senate,
but he's put himself in this situation. He knows he shouldn't be doing this,
but he is anyway because his partypolitics is more important to him than
even his own health, which isbaffling to me, the fact that he's
so willing to prioritize being just areliable yes vote in the Senate for the

(11:48):
Democrats over actually getting his cognitive functionsback in order. Why But it's because
he is actually making that choice himselfthat puts it. You're choosing to put
yourself in the public sphere on TV, in front of cameras knowing that you
shouldn't be there at that point. It's fair game. And the same goes

(12:09):
for Joe Biden too, who, like you, want to feel bad for
Joe Biden because he clearly doesn't knowwhat's going on. He's clearly not mentally
there. He should not be inthe position that he's in. He should
not be doing the things that he'sdoing. He should be at home and
joining the last couple of years ofhis life with his family. But he's
actively choosing to go out and makea fool of himself. So you know

(12:33):
what, it's fair game. Youbrought this on yourself. Alrighty, real
quick. I do want to quicklymention, as of yesterday, Governor Greg
Abbott did something that I thought waskind of interesting. He has declared that
Texas is officially under a quote unquoteinvasion. He did that via a letter
to Joe Biden, said, DearPresident Biden, the US Constitution one ratification

(12:58):
by promising the states in Article four, the federal government quote shall protect each
of them against invasion by refusing toenforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress,
including eight USC dah blah blah blahblah blah criminal prohibition against aliens entering the
United States between authorized ports of entry. Your administration has made it clear that

(13:20):
it will not honor that guarantee. The federal government's failure has forced me to
invote Article one, Section ten,Clause three of the US Constitution, thereby
enabling the State of Texas to protectits own territory against invasion by the Mexican
drug cartels. Go Greg, moreof this, yes, please. Because

(13:43):
of the failures of the federal governmenthere, this has become a national issue.
This used to be very much alocal issue issue. It used to
be a Texas issue, It usedto be a southern border state issue,
and it's become a global issue. There's a reason that we see now in
New York the governor going on livetelevision talking about how much of a problem

(14:07):
illegal immigration has become for them, and the reason for that is Joe Biden.
He has opened up the borders ina way that previously was. It
was not even this bad under Obama. And the point that Greg Abbott made
in that letter is like, look, when Texas joined the Union, we
did that with the understanding that therewould be certain benefits to that right,
and those benefits are not materializing. What's going on. We were promised this

(14:33):
and this in order to submit ourselvesto the United States, and you're not
carrying out your end of the bargain. We are, we're paying our taxes
to you. This really speaks moreto the fact that as of right now,
the federal government really is detrimental tothe state of Texas because, like
we we shell out all the taxmoney that we're supposed to and what we're

(14:56):
supposed to get in return for thatis, you know, protection, We're
supposed to to have benefits to this, but instead all we get is President
Joe Biden tanking our economy and notallowing us to drill for oil that's right
here in the state of Texas. And you can't even close the border.
That's the most basic thing you cando. But nope, nothing. So

(15:16):
we're going to do it ourselves.Greg Abbott is declaring this invasion and we're
just going to handle it ourselves. So I imagine over the next couple of
days, next week or two,we'll kind of actually see that materialize.
We'll figure out what that actually means. Because you can write a letter to
Joe Biden saying I'm declaring that Texasis being invaded, but what do you
actually do about that after you sendthe letter. That's what I'm going to

(15:39):
be keeping an eye out for. That's what I really want to see.
I want to see this letter befollowed by actual action. And to Greg
Abbott's credit, he has done apretty decent job of being active on the
border and actually trying to do hispart to close this. And there are
those that are saying Greg Abbott's notdoing enough, and that's a fair argument.

(16:00):
If it was Greg Abbott's job tosecure the border, I would say,
yeah, he's not doing enough. But that shouldn't be Greg Abott's job
that has fallen onto his plate becauseJoe Biden's not doing it. But that's
not part of the governor's job description. But so far, Greg Abbott has
done, in my opinion, adecent job of kind of stepping up to
the plate, even though he's steppingup, forgive me, rolling up to

(16:23):
the plate, even though he reallyshouldn't have to. So we'll see how
he follows this up. I'll bedefinitely keeping a close eye on this and
kind of how this all develops andwhat actually becomes of this invasion declaration?
Alrighty stuff I saw on line today. This one's a funny one. If

(16:44):
you know anything about me, youknow that I think pretty lowly vegans just
because they get on my nerves. If you want to be a vegan,
knocked yourself out. I don't care, but don't try to push that on
me. That My issue with vegansis everybody has to be vegan, like
it's not just I'm vegan. Andif you want to eat meat, go
for it, which is how vegetariansare I've noticed for the most part,

(17:06):
So if you want to be vegetarian, go for it, because normally vegetarians
don't shove it in your face andmake it their entire personality, whereas vegans,
in my experience, for the mostpart, I know there's exceptions to
the rules. I don't care. For the most part, vegans will be
all up in your face. Andif someone's vegan, their entire personality is
their vegans. So for that reasonI dislike them. So that brings us

(17:29):
to this article. Dad secretly givesson meat and dairy behind vegan wife's back.
W father, W father. Thisis parenting done right. First of
all, go dad, He says, his son felt lonely and excluded being
vegan around his friends. Food andlifestyle choices can often cause conflict and arguments

(17:51):
with your family, particularly when itcomes to making sure what your child is
eating. Hold on there, particularlywhen it comes to making sure what your
CHILDLD is eating. That's not propergrammar. First of all, who edited
this article? Because that's not supposedto say that. That doesn't make sense,
particularly when it comes to making surewhat your child is eating. That's

(18:14):
not me bungling reading it. That'show it's written, all right, I'm
not crazy. Moving on one.Dad recently opened up about his dilemma involving
his child's diet and how it ledto a conflict with his wife talking to
Reddit, which is definitely how youshould handle disagreements in marriage is go directly
to Reddit and talk to Reddit aboutit. Because sure, rather than having

(18:38):
a conversation with your wife about yourdifferences in parenting your child, or going
to a marriage counselor or doing anythingreasonable, this dad, you said screw
it and went to Reddit. Imean fair enough, go for it,
he says. The thirty two yearold explained that about six years ago,
his wife decided to become vegan whentheir child was around six years old,
so he agreed to also eat atplant based diet when in the house,

(19:02):
although he'd eat meat and animal producewhen he was out. Completely fair.
I support this kind of middle groundthat they've struck in this marriage. This
makes sense. You want to bevegan. I'll be vegan in the house
with you, so you don't haveto do extra cooking or whatever, so
we don't have to buy extra groceries. But when I'm out of the house,
I'm gonna do what I want becauseI don't want to be vegan.

(19:25):
Fair enough, that's all fair gamehere. So he agreed to also eat
a plant based diet when in thehouse, although he'd eat meat and enable
produce. Went out, and aftersome quote long conversations and a visit with
a dietitian, the couple decided theywould raise their son on a vegan diet.
I'm gonna go off on a limband say that those were probably some

(19:45):
pretty one sided conversations, just makinga guess, throwing it out there.
I could be wrong. I don'tknow. I wasn't there. That's my
assumption, take it or leave it, says. The dad recently revealed that
he found non vegan sweets and hamburgerappers in his son's bag, which the
twelve year old had bought with hispocket money. Deciding that his son shouldn't
be eating anything secretly, the dadstarted to buy him non vegan food,

(20:10):
even though his wife thinks eating meatand dairy is revolting. Now, you
may have missed this because it's veryvery subtle, but I caught it,
and I'm gonna point it out toyou. His son shouldn't be eating anything
secretly. The dad started to buyhim non vegan food even though his wife
thinks his meat, eating meat anddairy is revolting. So he doesn't think

(20:33):
he should be eating stuff secretly. But he's still gonna let him eat this
stuff and keep it a secret fromhis mom, which is eating it secretly.
He's still eating it secretly. Youdidn't fix the problem of here,
bro, You just kind of youchanged it. You adjusted it. Now
you're keeping a secret from just oneparent instead of the both of them.

(20:56):
You're still eating it secretly, Bro, It's still a secret. It's just
not a secret from you. Yousee, you see the anyway, deciding
that he's revolting Lady Ladi Da tellinghe's okay. So telling his story,
the man wrote, I had aconversation with my son and he confessed he
felt lonely and excluded eating vegan aroundhis friends, and they always had much

(21:18):
better candy than he did, andit wasn't fair. This is a classic
example of a twelve year old observingreality on the ground. Vegan food sucks.
It's terrible. It always has been, it always will be. There
will never not be terrible vegan food. And so if you're a twelve year
old kid sitting around the table withyour friends watching them eat good food,

(21:41):
good candy, good snacks and you'restuck with freaking tofu or something, yeah
you're gonna feel left out. Yeah. Absolutely. So, to make a
long story short, this dad startsbuying his son regular snacks and stuff so
that his son doesn't have to spendhis pocket money on regular snacks and he
can eat normal food with his friendslike a regular human being. And eventually

(22:03):
his wife finds out, and sheloses it, and she gets super upset.
She calls him an animal abuse enablerand accused him of quote unquote corrupting
our son. Let me stop youright there. This isn't the dad doing
this to the son. The sondoes not want to be vegan. I'm
sorry, No twelve year old kidwants to be vegan. So basically this

(22:26):
ends up with the dad asking reddit, So, am am I the bad
guy? Here? Am I thevillain? No? But you could have
handled it better, all right,Like at what you should have done at
this point is gone to your wifeand said, listen, our son doesn't
want to be vegan. It's makinghim feel left out. He feels isolated

(22:48):
by his friends. I don't thinkit's right for us to kind of push
this lifestyle on him. Let's dothat. Let's just let him eat regular
snacks when he's out with his friends. And you should have had an adult
conversation with your wife about how you'regoing to raise this child together rather than
sneaking behind her. Bear in mind, the wife is also in the wrong
too, because you shouldn't be vegan. Just complain and simple. You shouldn't

(23:11):
be vegan, and you definitely shouldn'tmake the rest of your family be vegan
because you want to be vegan. But this is one of those moments where
two parents need to have a discussionand get on one same page with how
you want to raise your child, because raising a child has to be done
cooperatively. If there's a disagreement betweentwo spouses, regardless of who is in

(23:34):
the right or who is in thewrong, because the dad is one hundred
percent and the right here one hundredpercent, but you still need to be
honest with your spouse. You stillneed to have a discussion about it.
It's not a great idea to gobehind her back, especially if it's vegan,
because vegans are vindictive. They willget you, dude. If they

(23:56):
find out that you haven't been doingthe veganisms, they will come for you.
So be on the same page, especially about stuff like just in general,
but especially about stuff like this.Alrighty, that is gonna do it
