(00:00):
COVID nineteen begins to make a comebackjust in time for the twenty twenty four
presidential election. Joe Biden prepares himselffor an impeachment. We will also take
a look at some medical professionals whoforgot to put away their toys, and
what one piece of home to courseshould you consider putting in your space.
Let's jump right in. In aworld that's constantly buzzing with updates, it's

(00:22):
easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheervolume of headlines and information. That's why
I'm here to help you navigate theendless waves of day to day updates.
I'm Ethan Buchanan and this his newsWave. Alrighty, good afternoon, evening
and morning to everyone. I wantto welcome you back into news Wave.

(00:44):
I hope you all had a greatlabor day. Mine was fantastic. The
studios were completely empty Monday morning,so I got to just sit and relax
all by. There's maybe two peoplein the entire building, and it was
me who was the sports guy hereat the media studios, and so it
was just a great time. Justgot to hang out, got to relax.
There's something to be said for justbeing all by yourself in a public

(01:08):
or semi public place. It's likethat weird feeling that you get when you're
like the last person, know mallwhen it's closing, or like early early
at an airport before anybody really getsthere for like an early flight. I
don't know what that feeling is.I don't know if there's a name for
it, but it's a fun it'sa fun thing. That's why I enjoyed

(01:29):
watching those twenty four hour challenges backon YouTube, back when those were a
thing years and years and years ago. But anyway, all that aside,
I hope your labor day was great. Mine was awesome. Let's go ahead
and jump right into the news.I want to talk first about COVID,
because after what is it now, three years, almost four years, we
still haven't had enough of this crap. We're going into it again. We've

(01:51):
seen it in the headlines once again. It's been a while, and by
a while, I mean like asingle year that we got to kind of
had COVID free news headline. Andnow everybody's making a big deal of the
fact that Jill Biden has got COVID, which I who cares, honestly,
who caress? She's gonna be fine. I mean, obviously quick recovery to

(02:12):
her or whatever. But the factthat we're pretending this is news breaking news.
Joe Biden has a cold. Guys, doctor Joe Biden has a cold.
Everybody is time to lose your minds, get worked up, get your
masks back out again, because thesecond third whatnot? Now, this would
be the forthcoming now of the greatplague has finally arrived. But speaking of

(02:34):
masks, I want to really here'sthe news. I want to point to
you from an article from New YorkPost. And of course you'll recall,
really, since late twenty twenty,a bunch of people were saying, hey,
do we really need to be worryingabout these masks? Does this actually
work? And this became such ahot button issue. If you weren't all
about the mask wearing, you recalledthe conspiracy theorist, and you were shunned

(02:54):
from normal society. But now we'vegot the New York Post coming to vindicate
all the crazy right winging streamists. Here's an article called face masks made little
to no difference in preventing the spreadof COVID, says right here. The
stance of the Center for Disease Controland Prevention on face masks have taken many
different twists and turns throughout the COVIDpandemic, which I want to stop right

(03:15):
there and examine that they change positions, and by day, I mean the
CDC and Anthony Fauci probably like threetimes, and every single time when they
announced a new stance, we grantedit the same level of credibility. It
was like, oh, yeah, they got it wrong the time before,
and the time before that and thetime right before this time. But I

(03:37):
think this time they've really got it. I think we can definitely trust them
this time. So let's do whateverthey say without questioning it at all.
But let's hear from the article here. After initially claiming face mask coverings weren't
necessary, the CDC changed course inApril twenty twenty, calling on all Americans,
even children as young as two,to mask up. That September,
then CDC Director doctor Robert Redfield saidduring a Senate hearing that face masks are

(04:01):
the most important powerful health tool wehave, even suggesting that they might offer
more protection than vaccines, which, surprisingly enough, due to recent reports,
that might actually be true. Nowthose recommendations likely played a large part in
thirty nine US states eventually enacting maskmandates. Now, a scientific review led

(04:23):
by twelve researchers from a steamed universitiesaround the world suggest that widespread masking may
have done little to nothing to curbthe transmission of COVID nineteen. Now,
I'm old enough to remember a timewhen if you said something like that online,
it was the last thing you eversaid online. You go to YouTube,
jail, Facebook, jail, Twitter, jail, every type of jail,

(04:43):
you would be there in seconds, and now here it is. The
conspiracy theorists have once again been provenright. Published by the Cochrane Library,
the review dug into the findings ofseventy eight randomized controlled trials to determine whether
physical interventions, including face masks andhandwashing less than the spread of respiratory viruses.
When comparing the use of medical slashsurgical masks to wearing no masks,

(05:05):
the review found that wearing a maskmay make little to no difference on how
many people caught a flu like illnesssuch as COVID nineteen. And before you
say, oh, well, yeah, that's why we switched to doing N
ninety five's well, apparently According tothe study, it found that wearing N
ninety five respirators could make little tono difference in how many people have confirmed

(05:26):
flu and make little to no differencein how many people catch a flu like
illness or respiratory illness. So,yeah, as you see this COVID narrative
start to ramp back up, obviouslymake your own choices. Do what you
think is best medically for you.But don't believe the hype about you need
to wear a mask. You haveto wear a mask. If you want
to wear a mask, knock yourselfout, but don't do it because you

(05:47):
feel like you have to. Becauseyou don't, it makes no difference.
Now, of course, with there emergence of COVID, we do have
to kind of examine the timeline, and coincidentally, COVID is starting to wiggle
its way back into the headlines rightas we have an election coming up.
It makes sense that they would dothat, especially given the fact that Joe

(06:10):
Biden is now extremely unpopular. Wesaw he had a huge boost in the
mail in voting, so it wouldmake sense that they would want to try
that again. You know, whynot just completely redo everything we did in
twenty twenty because it worked in twentytwenty, and we've seen the same campaign
strategy from Joe Biden, which isjust hide in the basement, and we've
seen how that's not really working outbecause he doesn't have an excuse to hide

(06:34):
in the basement. So what doyou do. You bring the same old
excuse back. There's the old adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix
it. And their twenty twenty strategyworked to perfection so long as they had
COVID and they had the excuse todo this mass mail in voting and everything,
and so why not bring that back? Why not try that again?

(06:55):
But of course it's not a foregoneconclusion that Joe Biden will be the Democratic
ominee. On top of all ofhis age issues and the questions about his
health, we now have the possibilityof the Republicans actually impeaching him. Now,
we've heard this kind of talked abouta little bit over the last couple
of months or not. Miccarthy KevinMcCarthy has mentioned it several times. It's

(07:18):
been kind of in the back ofthe headlines for a couple of months now,
especially with all of the Hunter Biden'sstuff going on and the probability that
he might actually be tied to allof that. And now, as it
turns out, the White House mightactually think an impeachment is coming, and
it appears they're staffing up for it. This article from The Daily Wire,

(07:40):
Biden's war room takes shape as impeachmentprobe looms. It says the White House
has been staffing up in preparation fora possible impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden
over allegations of corruption. A coupleof dozen lawyers, legislative aids, and
communications staffers have been brought together aspart of a quote unquote war room to
fight against GOP investigations, according tomultiple reports in recent days. Though the

(08:03):
construction of Biden's defense effort has beenunderway since the Republicans took over control of
the House early this year, thenew reports from Politico and NBC News about
his growing roster emerged after some lawmakerssignaled the impeachment process could soon begin and
as the twenty twenty four election cycleheats up. And I don't know,
I'm kind of of the opinion thatit I don't know, I don't think

(08:24):
maybe an impeachment itself will happen, but there's definitely going to be, at
the very least an impeachment inquiry. The evidence is really kind of starting to
stack up against him, and there'sa growing amount of pressure from their towards
the Republicans from their base. Givenall the stuff that's going down with Trump
and all his indictments, there's thaturge in the Republican base to immediately hit

(08:46):
back in kind. And so you'reseeing growing pressure from the Republican base to
the Republicans in office, like, hey, guys, they're bringing Trump up
on next to nothing, and we'vegot all the stuff from Biden's laptop or
from Hunter Biden's laptop that we couldbe hitting Joe Biden with, So come
on, let's make something happen here. And clearly the White House thinks that

(09:11):
that might actually end up happening. The Biden's team includes defense attorney Richard Saber,
Russ Annelo, former staff director ofthe House Oversight Committee, and former
Building Back Together spokeswoman Sharon Yang. The endeavor will also have incoming White House
counsel Ed Siskel, who has experienceddealing with GOP investigations ranging from Benghazi probe

(09:31):
to the solely Yan inquiry Celindra inquiry. I don't know how to pronounce that
word. I've never seen that wordbefore in my life. But yeah,
I mean, despite the fact thatthe Biden administration is clearly taking this seriously,
I remained skeptical. I have toomany times seeing the GOP in the
House and the Senate just completely foldon simple things, stuff way less consequential

(09:56):
than the impeachment of a president.I have absolutely no faith in them now
to not again just completely fold onthis impeachment despite all the evidence. I
fully expect we will get a wholelot of talk from the GOP. I
fully expect that we may even getan impeachment probe or inquiry or whatever.

(10:16):
But is it going to rise tothe point of an actual impeachment. I
would be very surprised. I wouldbe pleasantly surprised, because I do think
Biden needs to be impeached. Ithink the evidence is one hundred percent there
for it. I mean, digthrough the Hunter Biden laptop hard drive,
it's online, It's not hard tofind. You will clearly see evidence that

(10:39):
Joe Biden should should definitely be atleast investigated. But is that going to
happen. I doubt it. Ivery much doubt it. The different committees
and James Comer and whatnot can pullall the evidence they want out of the
archives. Is it ever going tohappen? I mean, I would be
very pleasantly surprised if it did.But apparently I'm not the only one with

(11:01):
reservations about it. Apparently there's thoseeven in the GOP caucus in the House
that have reservations about it. Thisexcerpt here from an article that was posted
by The Hill. White House warrensGOP Biden impeachment will backfire. Rep.
Mike Lawler, Republican of New York, who represents a district Biden one,
as an example of someone who saidthe GOP is not there yet in an

(11:22):
impeachment. Representative Ken Buck, Republicanof Colorado, meanwhile, has called the
idea quote impeachment theater quote. TheWhite House seas highlighting the divisions with the
Republican Party caucus as a way tofurther show that these half baked efforts are
little more than a political stunt anddriven by their extreme right wing flank.

(11:43):
A source familiar with their thinking toldThe Hill the House Republicans slim majority means
that McCarthy has few votes to spairin order to launch an inquiry. He
also risks his party's majority if enoughmoderate Republicans who won in Biden districts are
forced to take such a during apivotal election year in which they seek to
increase their majority. And now thatis a worthy consideration because at the end

(12:07):
of the day, we do haveto think about the numbers here. I
mean, you've got two hundred andtwenty two Republicans to two hundred and twelve
Democrats. There's no margin of errorthere at all. You need every single
Republican vote, and yet they're notall in deep red districts. Obviously that's
going to be a winning point ina deep red district. But if you're

(12:28):
in a purple district and you voteto impeach the president, you might lose
your seat. And that's something thatKevin McCarthy has to consider. That's something
that the entire House GOP caucus hasto think about when they're weighing whether or
not they want to actually go throughwith this. So there's got to be
like completely insurmountable evidence that even theDemocrats have to recognize as Yeah, this

(12:52):
is bad, and then on topof that, Kevin McCarthy actually needs to
have the guts to go through withit. Even if Kevin McCarthy does,
I don't see miss McConnell having theguts to go through with it. We've
seen time and again how buddy buddyhim and Joe Biden are. I don't
think there's a world in which JoeBiden gets impeached, at least not during

(13:16):
this term. If, however, the Republicans manage to beef up their House
majority in twenty twenty four and JoeBiden wins reelection, and then people continue
to see what a terrible job JoeBiden is doing, and Joe Biden's approval
ratings continue to sink down into thedumps. I would not be surprised if
Joe Biden gets impeached halfway through asecond term, but in the middle of

(13:41):
this term, especially at this point, I don't see that happening at all,
especially not when you can turn theminds of the public away from impeaching
Joe Biden. Because if you getrid of Joe Biden in the form of
an impeachment, then the GOP's alternativeto Joe Biden has to be Donald Trump.
But Donald Trump's got his own legaltroubles, so he doesn't really suit

(14:05):
as a good alternative because the Democratscan just turn around and say, well,
hey, this guy's been impeached twiceand now he's facing four different felony
chart or four different sets of felonyindictments from all over the country. So
how are you guys going to getrid of Joe Biden because he's allegedly corrupt
and then replace him with Donald Trump, who we think is corrupt. It's

(14:26):
just gonna go back and forth ina vicious cycle. But I don't know.
We'll see how things turn out.I honestly, I do have my
fingers crossed that Joe Biden does getimpeached. I would love to see it.
I just I don't think that that'swhere things are headed. I don't
think that the political cards are stackedup in such a way that would even

(14:46):
facilitate that. For the Republicans,I don't think they could pull it off
even if they wanted to. AllRight, and real quick, before we
get out of the news, Iwant to talk real quickly about something a
little bit more local in my homestate of Texas General Ken Paxton yesterday his
impeachment trial started. There's a lotthat can be said about this. I

(15:07):
don't think that Ken Paxton is necessarilya quote unquote morally upstanding guy. I
think there's pretty substantial evidence that hecheated on his wife, which is not
great. But at the end ofthe day, we all knew that when
we voted for him. I knewthat when I voted for him to be
the attorney general. I didn't votefor Ken Paxston to be the attorney general

(15:28):
because I think that he's morally pureand has never done anything to jeopardize his
marriage. I voted for him becausehe has a great record of as an
attorney general. I feel like thepeople of Texas already spoke on this issue
when we voted in the twenty twentytwo elections. And the fact that we're
now trying to go back and rewritethis election using impeachments, it's just it

(15:52):
all just seems very political to me. It seems very politically motivated. I
mean the fact that the first prosecutionwitness, the first question he was asked
was are you a rhino? Thatthat definitely tells me that there's not much
happening here, except that they're justtrying to get Ken Paxton in the courts
because they couldn't get him in theelection cycle. Alrighty, with that out

(16:17):
of the way, and of coursewe're gonna continue to follow it and give
you updates on it as they're relevant. It's probably gonna go for a week
or two, so we'll see howall this plays out. Fingers crossed it
works out in favor of Ken Paxton, because I like him a lot as
Attorney General. But with that outof the way, let's go ahead and
hop right into stuff that I sawonline. Alrighty, get ready to get

(16:40):
incredibly disappointed in the medical industry. We've got an article from Good Morning America
titled dinner plate size surgical tool discoveredin woman's abdomen eighteen months after procedure.
There's a lot to unpack there.Dinner plate side like, it's not something
small. This isn't like the medicalequivalent of dropping a ten millimeter socket ranch

(17:02):
head into your engine while you're workingon your car and losing it. This
is a This is the size ofa dinner plate and they left it in
a person. How do you messup this badly? I don't know,
but we're gonna find out together.Let's dig right into this article right here,
so it says London. Of courseit was the Europeans. A surgical
tool quote the size of a dinnerplate has been discovered inside a woman's abdomen

(17:25):
eighteen months after undergoing a Cesarean sectionwhile giving birth to her child. Health
officials have confirmed the unnamed woman fromNew Zealand, who was in her twenties
when she gave birth to her childin twenty twenty, underwent a scheduled C
section at thirty six weeks plus threedays just station. According to a report
released by New Zealand's Health and DisabilityCommissioner Marag McDowell. Quote, an Alexis

(17:49):
wound retractor or AWR, a deviceyou used to draw back the edges of
a wound during surgery, was leftin her abdomen following her C section.
The report said. This resulted inthe woman's suffering chronic abdominal pain until the
device was discovered incidentally on an abdominalCT scan. Good grief. You think

(18:11):
that at some point in those eighteenmonths, somebody working at that hospital,
the doctor, one of the nursesliterally anyone would be like, hey,
guys, did anybody see that AWRthat we used the other day? I
haven't seen it. Did you takeit? Did you take it? Has
anybody seen the awr? But no? Eighteen months? I mean, how

(18:33):
do you manage to leave that inthe person in the first place. It's
not small, it's it's not likea band aid or something that accidentally got
enclosed in a wound. It's like, this is a big piece of medical
equipment and they managed to stitch thislady up with it just sitting in her
abdomen. At the time of herprocedure. A host of operating room theater

(18:56):
staff were present at the c section, including a surgeon, a senior registrar
and instrument nurse, three circulating nurses, two an athesists, enthusiasts, and
I don't know two anesthetic technicians.Good god, that's a difficult word,
and a theater midwife. Officials said, so you got all those people watching

(19:19):
this surgeon close up this lady andnobody noticed the dinner plate sized awr still
just chilling in her tomb. Dumbnobody saw it. Nobody noticed. I
don't know. One thing is definitelyfor sure. This lady and this child
are going to be living large offthis medical malpractice suit for a very long

(19:44):
time. This kid just got afull ride scholarship to any college they want
thanks to medical malpractice. According tothe article, the commissioner recommended that the
woman be provided a written apology byhospital staff, and a review of the
hospitals practices is now underway. Yeah, dude, that's not going to stop
the lawsuit that's coming your way.I can't speak for this lady, but

(20:07):
all I'm saying is, if y'allleft a dinner plate in my tummy after
a surgery for eighteen months, Idon't care how sincere your written apology is.
You better believe you're catching the case. We're going to court and I'm
getting paid. But yeah, thiswhole this whole incident kind of reminds me
of the words that my grandma wouldalways say to me whenever I did something

(20:32):
like ridiculously dumb or stupid. So, to the hospital staff and everyone who
made this phenomenal mistake, I wouldlike to leave you with these words of
wisdom from my grandmother. It's it'sa simple phrase that I really think sums
everything up. Bless your heart.Just bless your heart. Alrighty, that
is gonna go ahead and do ittoday for stuff I saw online. So

(20:55):
without further ado, we're gonna slideright into random recommendations. Alwriting today on
random recommendations, I want to takeyou back in time to nineteen sixty three
when a British entrepreneur named Edward CravenWalker, the founder of the lighting company
Mathmos, invented the lava lamp. Now, I have been a crazy,

(21:17):
huge lava lamp fan ever since Iwas probably about thirteen or so. I
was hanging out in the sound boothat a conference that my church was putting
on, and sitting in this soundbooth was on either end of the soundboard
a love lamp, and I spentjust this entire conference just zoning out staring

(21:40):
at these lava lamps. And eversince then, I have been obsessed with
them, and I was insistent ongetting one for the soundboard at our church
after that conference, and then whenI got here to the iHeartRadio Studios where
I am now recording this podcast, the first thing I did was stop off
at a Walmart and pick up athirteen dollar lava lamp and set that sucker

(22:06):
up right here next to the soundboard, and I have just been loving looking
at them. They're They're a verysimple, yet very elegant a piece of
decoration. And this is probably theonly time that I will recommend anything that's
home to core related to you.But I've just I love these things so
much. They are so fun towatch. I don't know what it is

(22:26):
about though, I don't know whatit is about my brain. I'm a
I'm like a fly when I seea bright blue led, I just I
will just sit and look at thesethings for hours. But yeah, if
you need to just spice up apiece of space, if you've got like
a like a computer set up inyour room and you just want to add
that little something something to it,go get a lava lamp. They're just

(22:48):
about everywhere. You can find themfor anywhere from like thirteen bucks to fifteen
bucks. You can get them atWalmart, Amazon, They're not hard to
come by. Just google it andyou'll you'll find one somewhere and they will.
They will brighten up your day, they will brighten up your living space,
and they will brighten up your life. So yeah, that's gonna do
it. For random recommendation, It'sjust a quick, little short one for
you today. Just wanted to quicklyshare with you my love of shiny,

(23:11):
glowy things. Alrighty, that isgonna do it for today's episode of Newswave.
I want to thank you once againfor listening, and once again quick
