Sound familiar.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (00:14):
Well,
you are certainly not alone.
The first trimester is like asecret mission.
You're growing a human, but theworld has absolutely no idea.
Just how much is going on behindthe scenes.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (00:33):
Today,
I've got your survival guide to
navigating the ups and downs ofthe first trimester.
While still crushing it at work.
So stick with me because I'msharing game-changing tips.
That'll have you feeling more incontrol of this wild ride.
Let's dive in.
(00:59):
Hi, I'm Stephanie Poole, founderand CEO of Birth Prep Academy.

first hospital birth.
I'm sharing revealingconversations about what it
really takes to successfullytransition into motherhood.
So join me.
I'm here to discover things likewhat to expect in childbirth,
(01:21):
how to prepare for your birth.
We'll also talk aboutbreastfeeding and so much more.
I'm so grateful to share it allwith you right here on Oh, Baby,
the podcast created for pregnantmoms, preparing for their first
hospital birth.
Let's get started.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (01:40):
Okay.
So let me start things off bysaying that the first trimester.
Yeah, it's no walk in the park.
Your hormones are throwing aparty.
Your body feels like it'srunning a marathon.
And your brain, it's definitelyon a coffee break.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (01:58):
Now
with that being said, let's just
go ahead and talk about a fewthings that you might be
experiencing.
In the first trimester.
So first up there's fatigue.
Now growing a human isabsolutely exhausting.
If you're tired, it's becauseyour body is literally building
(02:18):
the placenta right now.
Then there's morning sickness.
And spoiler alert.
It's not just in the morning.
It can hit any time.
Anywhere.
Now, how about those moodswings?
Crying over commercials.
Yep.
That's hormones for you.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 A (02:36):
Now,
how about that smell
sensitivity?
Oh, yeah.
And it also happens on the daywhen someone is heating up fish
in the office microwave.
Just your luck, right?
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (02:49):
Now
we can't talk about symptoms.
And not talk about bloating andcramps.
Well that's because your body ismaking room for your sweet baby.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Aud (03:00):
So
here's the key to surviving this
phase.
Simply understanding that all ofthis is normal.
You are not alone.
And the symptoms as challengingas they are.
Won't last forever.
Microphone (TONOR TC-7 (03:17):
Alright,
now let's talk about solutions
because I know that you're herefor the answers.
First up, I want you to power upyour snacks.
Sack up on protein pack snackslike almonds, string, cheese, or
granola bars.
Eating small meals throughoutthe day.
(03:38):
Always helps keep nausea at bay,and it also helps to steady your
energy.
All right, moving on.
Number two, I want you tohydrate.
Hydration is key.
I say over and over and overagain in my videos, but that's
because it's super important.
Y'all.
I keep a water bottle at yourdesk and sip throughout the day.
(04:01):
At some lemon or ginger, ifplaying water makes you queasy.
All right next step, the 10minute rule, step away from your
desk for short walks orstretches.
It sounds really simple.
I know.
But moving around can boost yourenergy and ease those feelings.
Also take a nap.
(04:23):
If you have a lunch break, Sneakin a quick rest in your car.
Or a quiet spot.
Even 15 minutes can make a hugedifference.
Trust me, you would besurprised.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (04:37):
Okay.
So with that being said, it'simportant that you embrace these
changes and what do I mean bythat?
I mean for you to accept yournew norm.
This is it.
This is the new version ofyourself.
And here's a pro tip.
I want you to lean into this newversion of yourself.
(04:59):
Why because your body is workingovertime and it deserves some
TLC.
So be sure to invest in comfort.
Don't wait to upgrade yourwardrobe.
If you got to go to work, youmight as well be comfortable.
So start looking for pants thathave that stretchy material and
flowy tops.
(05:20):
Also ditch the comparisons.
If you work with someone in yourdepartment, you know, that is
running a marathon in theirfirst trimester, that's them,
but every pregnancy isdifferent.
So just because someone else didit doesn't necessarily mean that
you have to listen to your body.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 Au (05:41):
All
right.
So now let's address talkingwith your boss without the
awkwardness.
And I know, I know telling yourboss you're pregnant can be.
A bit intimidating, but here'show to make a smooth number one.
I want you to be mindful oftiming.
(06:01):
Listen, you don't have to spillthe beans right away.
There's a lot of moms that waituntil the second trimester, when
they feel more comfortable, ittakes some time to lean into
this new version of you.
So give yourself some timebefore having this conversation.
Wait until you feel comfortable.
(06:21):
Number two.
I want you to be honest, Whenyou're ready.
I want you to go ahead andschedule a private chat, a
private meeting, a privateconversation.
To let your boss know what'sgoing on and any adjustments
that you might need.
Third, I want you to besolutions oriented.
(06:44):
So if you're struggling withsome of those early pregnancy
symptoms, I want you to suggestsolutions to help your employer.
So you might suggest flexibleoptions like working from home
or adjusting some of yourdeadlines and deliverables so
that you can still get the workdone.
(07:04):
But perhaps in a moreaccommodating way, believe me,
most employers.
are more understanding than youthink.
Microphone (TONOR TC-777 (07:14):
Okay.
So you've had the conversationwith your employer.
But now you might find yourselfbeing worried about whether or
not you can stay connected tostay in the loop.
Well, if you're worried aboutstaying productive at work here
is the trick.
Balance that's right.
(07:35):
Balance.
Okay.
So let me break this down foryou first.
I want you to be selective focuson tasks that really matter and
let go of non essential work.
Also communicate.
Keep your team updated on whatyou can realistically.
That's the key word here on whatyou can realistically handle.
(08:00):
Finally, I want you to find yourtribe.
if you have a trusted coworker,Someone that you can vent to,
that you can talk to.
Sometimes just having someonethere who can support you and
advocate for you, makes all thedifference.
(08:21):
So.
Be sure to find your tribe.
Okay.
So we've talked about differentsymptoms and how to handle them.
We've helped you have thatawkward conversation with your
boss.
But at the end of the day, Iwant you to remember this.
Yes, the first trimester, can,be tough, but don't forget to
(08:46):
celebrate the milestones alongthe way, Whether it's hearing
your baby's heartbeat for thefirst time, or simply making it
through a rough work week.
Every win.
Counts.
And remember the secondtrimester is just around the
corner.
They call it the golden periodfor a reason.
(09:07):
So hang in there.
Relief is coming.

drop it in the comments, youmight help someone else.
