Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's the Patent Danny Podcast. It's Danny here and
I have with me. Oh my goodness, I'm so excited
about this comedian Charlie Barons. Charlie, welcome to our little
podcast here. How's it going so far, so wonderful. I'm
so glad we're all on the same time. After the
time change over this last weekend, it was like, I

(00:21):
hate it absolutely does now. The great thing that Charlie
is doing. He's coming in here to the Adler Theater
in Davenport on Sunday, March eighth. Make sure you get
your tickets. You can check out the Adler box office
or if you want to, you know, head in one
of the other directions Charliebarons dot com. That's spelled b

(00:41):
E R E N S. And Charlie, I love what
you do. And I'm just gonna say this first and foremost,
this is not an ad for Quick Trip Quick Quick Star,
but that's where I literally first met you. I'm such
a big fan of quick Star here in I and

(01:01):
when I saw your commercials and all the things that
you do with quick Star, I'm like, who is this guy?
This is awesome? And of course they're headquartered in Lacrosse, Wisconsin,
which you grew up in Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Oh yeah, I sure did. Yeah, I'm glad you saw those.
I mean, you know, there's nothing like nothing like a
fill in station. You know, it's so right, a lot
of Midwest goes down at the fill in station.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
More than we know.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
You you grew up in Wisconsin. Now I found this
to be like when you're a comedian, but you have
credentials like yours, Emmy winning journalist, Billboard charting bluegrass musician.
This is incredible stuff and you're pulling this all into
your routine.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, I kind of dabble in
a lot of different areas. You can call it ad
d that's what my doctor calls it. But you know,
I enjoy it. You know, I enjoy doing a variety
of different things. And you know, the show is mostly
stand up comedy, but we also incorporate some music into

(02:10):
it from time to time and also you know, some
headlines and all that. So and it's a different show
than the last we were in Iowa. And yeah, so
I'm loving the new material. It's been a lot of
fun to like test it out and see what's working
and what's not, and it's gonna be a good show.
I'm excited for it.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
And you're literally a Midwestern guy. I mean, how does
that get received on like the East and West coast
because you're going everywhere?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, you know, honestly, like I guess. So we got
a special coming out on December first, and in that
special you kind of see like that it's not necessarily
about the Midwest, but it's it's about the world through
a Midwest guy's perspective, you know. And that's that's been
like a fun way to do it because I feel
like in the Midwest we got a very interesting sense

(02:59):
of of the world, and you know, we don't take
it too seriously, but we kind of have fun with it.
And I think that that you sort of see that.
But here's the other thing, Like, as you go around
the country, people who have left the Midwest like to
find each other again. So we'll do a show, like
even in California, we've done a show, but half the

(03:22):
crowd is Midwesterners because people who leave want to find
another way to connect because they love the Midwest so much.
So I'm just lucky that I picked a you know,
thing to do comedy on that so many people love.
Even if I wasn't there, you know, I just kind
of bring people together, is what I do.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Oh my gosh. Yes, And I think you're right. Midwesterners
tend to find other Midwesterners and we talk about the
craziest stuff. People don't always get us Midwesterners, and.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That's okay, that is fine. Yeah, But they even if
they don't get us, they want to know how to
handle us. And that's another reason to come out to
the to the shows, you know, because they can learn
a little bit of like the way to a Midwesterner's
hearts we all know is acts of service, acts of
gridge cleaning request you.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Know, shoveling walks when there's ten feet of snow.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yes, the little gutter cleaning, that kind of deal.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
So the tour is called Lost and Found, and you
are literally heading everywhere. Now we talked a little bit
about what people can expect, but you know, you say,
it's it's stand up and you have a little music
in it. Just give us a little bit of like
what kind of music, Like, what are you doing bluegrass wise?

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Oh? Gotcha? Well, the music may or may not be
part of this show kind of haven't decided yet, but
if we do incorporate music, it's usually like a sort
of as an opening act or a closing act. I'll
be my buddy Adam will come out and we who
I recorded the album with Barons and Girl, and we'll
do some songs. If it's not that, it's it's another

(05:02):
it's a group of other comedians, or you know, there's
a live man and to walk minute something like that.
So each show's kind of got its own thing. Every
show is a little bit different than the next. But
I can guarantee you you have, you know, an hour
of good laughs at the at the minimum, you know.

(05:23):
But being a people pleaser, you know, Catholic from the Midwest,
I like to I'm gonna bring everyone a cast row
from my freezer, so you have that too.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
I love that. So, Charlie, where can people find you too?
Because I believe you have a couple of places at
least where people can hear a podcast, and I really
like the concept of Bellied Up.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Yeah, Bellied Up's a great spot. I mean you can
find it all linked up at Charliebarns dot com, but
you can also go to bellied Up dot com if
you want, And that's a podcast where we just talk
to people from the Midwest, anyone calling him for advice
or you don't got some may want to buy, seller
trade or whatever it is. We chitchat with them at
a bar. Me and my buddy Miles. That you bet,

(06:06):
you guy.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I love it. And people really will be missing out
on a great night, great date night, great fun night
if they don't come and see you again. It's Davenport's
Adler Theater Sunday, March eighth with Charlie Barons and the
Lost and Found Tour. Charlie, I can't wait. Thank you
so much for being here today.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Oh thank you for having me. I appreciate you. And
maybe we'll see you at a quick trip soon, okay,
or a quick star for you.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Hey, that's a deal. I'll look for you, all right.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Sounds good. We'll see you next time then, all right,

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
