Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's bring in co host to the Pat and Aaron
Show on ninety five three WDAE, Aaron Jacobson in with
us this morning. So, Aaron, going back to yesterday's win
over the Cardinals, the Bucks got the job done. They
stayed a half game in front of the Carolina Panthers.
But I gotta tell you it's went in the seventeen
over the Cardinals. It is not a very good team.
(00:23):
I'm a little concerned about the Bucks in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Sound gave up over three hundred yards passing to Jacoby Brissett,
a perennial backup in this league. So no, there's a
lot of things to be concerned about. And then on
the other side, you see the Carolina Panthers within the division,
who are on your tail, beat what I think is
the best team in football.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah, everybody. I thought that going into this weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
In the Rams, and they got it done. They beat
the Rams, and we saw it. We know what happened
with the Bucks and what they looked like when they
faced really good teams, and it wasn't like the Carolina
Panthers hanging in that game and winning that game. And now,
if you're a Bucks fan, you see a win. You're
happy with the win. Yep, You're very glad Bucky Irving
came back and Chris Godwin's starting to regain form. But
(01:08):
you're still concerned with all the problems on defense, and
the offense isn't sustaining drives. That's problematic as well.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, and Baker Mayfield look is tough to I mean
going out there, you know, his shoulder is hurting. He
played it safe, you know, trying to avoid big hits
and things like that. But health has been a big
problem for this team throughout the season, and it sounds
like there's some positive news with some players getting healthy.
(01:36):
Maybe Mike Evans, you know, we'll come back soon, hopefully
another week now Baker Mayfield can recover a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
One of their other big weapons, Jalen McMillan, another receiver
he's going to be he's probably going to be back
maybe next week, and Mike Evans a little later in
the season. But that's that's good big weapons for Baker.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
And look, they close out the season against the Panthers
at Ray and they might need Mike Evans for that game.
That game could be the game that decides the NFC sounds,
so it will. They are a half game up on
the Panthers. Panthers have a bye this week. The Bucks
take on the Saints, another home game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
But this is where it gets a little dicey.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Hopefully with that Saints game they can go a full
game in front of the Panthers. But then they turn
around and they have a Thursday night game against the Falcons,
other division game. Yeah, Falcons are not a good team.
They lost to the Jets yesterday. But when you have
those quick turnaround games, I feel like a Thursday night game,
anything can kind of happen.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Not only that, the way that the Falcons offense is
structured is deadly against the Buccaneers. Yeah, Jean Robinson, they're
elusive running back. He gets out in space, thrown in
the football too. And Kyle Pitts a former Florida gamor
who many are familiar with around these parts. So they've
got weapons. They just aren't a great team right now.
(02:54):
But look at the last slate of games. Everyone is
against the division enemy. For one against the Dolphins, who
you should handle.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Right well you should, but the Dolphins have been playing
better lately. They got another win yesterday you have to
win the division if you're the Bucks. That they're not
getting in the playoffs if they don't win the NFC South.
We're joined by Aaron Jacobson. Let's switch years and talk
about USAFF. So they close out the regular season with
a big fifty two to three win over Rice at
(03:22):
rage A Camps. You know, a solid season, nine to three.
Disappointing that they're not going to be playing for the
conference championship, that they don't have a chance to make
the College Football Playoffs. But all in all, good season,
A really great season from Byron Brown, yeah quarterback, I
mean he was incredible. But shortly after that win, we
(03:44):
learned that their coach is leaving for Auburn.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I figured he would. I figured Alex golishould be on
his way out this USF team before preseason out Look,
you look at it now, they overachieved, but in the
middle of the season, before that Navy game, where you
looked at it and I all you got to do
is win out and you're going to the College Football
Playoff USF and they laid an egg they could do
it against Navy. So Alex Golish gets a job opportunity.
(04:10):
We had heard Arkansas before that, I heard Oklahoma State,
and then Auburn comes along. Yeah, and Auburn from the SEC.
If you're watching football over the weekend, you saw Auburn
and Alabama the Iron Bowl. Everybody wants a piece of
that SEC action, especially if you're a coach. You can
get that money, you can get that you know, that
investment into getting those recruits. Now with the nil deals,
(04:34):
I mean, Auburn sec that money, that headline. Yeah, it's
just big and USF they're now going to have to
search for a new coach, which they're used to Rob Higgins.
I'm sure this is his first go around doing this
with his new role at USF. I'm sure he'll do
a fine job picking the right guy. But this is
going to be a reoccurring issue here.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
It's just disappointing because it really felt like USF was
building something even though they couldn't get the job done.
Like you said, in the middle of the season, they
laid a couple eggs and it really hurt their chances.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
It's something bigger this year.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
So John Romano in the Tampa Bay Times, he had
this note that Auburn's going to be Goalucia's tense stop
in the last twenty two years. And there was someone
I can't remember who it was. They said about Lane Kiffin.
We'll talk about him in a second. The old miss
coach now going to LSU that he's a hoe not
a housewife. Yes, and that's pretty much Alex Golesh too'
(05:23):
he's not a house.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
I'm not saying it.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
I mean he's not settling down at us F. He's
moving on to the next big thing.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Did you see his whole.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Career Lane got after that reporter of that do you
want coming after you? Is that what you want? I'll
send him the audience.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
I think it's a fair comparison.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
It is certainly a fair comparison to Lane Kiffen because
he does move around. But when you look at USF specifically,
I hate to admit it.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
They have to get they have to get out of
this count at some point.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
There. That's the key there.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
It is here got to get to a power conference
because if you do not, you will always be a
stepping stone to an Auburn or to a better opportunity.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, and he's getting a big deal. Go Lesha and
then Florida real quick. Last thing I want to get to.
They don't land Lane Kiffin. They fall short there, which
I thought that's a big miss. I get LSU the
allure of going there, but they get this two lane
coach John some You think that's a good move for Florida.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Now, don't you gotta go big?
Speaker 3 (06:25):
That's what I thought. You've got.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
I mean the state of football here in Florida. You
got USF losing their coach to Auburn, You've got Florida State.
They're keeping their coach after just a horrific season. I
saw brutal loss to the Gators, right.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
And I think they kept him because they saw this
outlook and they didn't want to get embarrassed by getting
the wrong coach into I think that now.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
That I look in hindsight and the money, because they're
paying these coaches so much money, and then it costs
so much to get out of those contracts. Yet the
coaches like Lane Kiffin digging his leaves. It's a weird setup.
It's a weird system college football. It's very bizarre. And
then then when they leave, they can't coach. Now the
guy who's coached his team the old miss talking about
(07:06):
Lane Kippen right, Yeah, to a fabulous season, a historic
season for them.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
He's not going to be able to coach the playoff.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Now, what is Alex Goes gonna do? Is he going
to coach the bowl game for us?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
After we know?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I haven't heard that. I don't think it would be
as contentious for him to do that as as we've
seen with old miss. Yeah, but also like an wants them. Yeah,
you got to start recruiting like that windownut. You got
to get into that recruitment window and start get hit
the ground running, all right.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Aaron Jacobs and coast at the Pat and Aaron Show
