WITCHI Gauer six o'clock tonight in thatway that we do. It is Wednesday,
(01:34):
the tenth of April, and Iwould be Mike Rener. Jeff Kavanaugh
is with us today. We'll seejose Cork last night. All right,
Julie Dobbs is here. Hello, and over at the helm it is shoopy.
What up? So you've got theusual cast of characters and we are
locked in, loaded an aerodynamic andready to roll, and we hope you
(02:00):
are too. I'm ready. I'mready to fast forward at five o'clock m
hm, at which time what happensgoing after Emily Jones. Oh yeah,
I've got her in my crosshairs.Yeah, I got her in mind too.
We've got some explaining to do.Not mine your charge of the Rangers.
(02:24):
No, not yours, not yours. She should not have sent the
clerk out there in the ninth andI have had I've had it up to
hear she's not bouche. Okay,So imagine you had the opportunity to talk
to Bochie on our show right now? Hey, Jeff, Yeah, sure,
I heard you wanted to do aninterview. I'm available. What do
(02:47):
you have for? What the hell? Bro? You would not I thought
you were good at this. Youwould not, geez, what would you
really say? Hey, mister bSo, how do you like Yellow?
I'm proposing to train you for wash. Yes, it's good to talk to
you, sir. I'm sorry youthink it didn't work out any better than
(03:09):
they did last night. But Ijust wanted to tell you I think you're
at the best ever. And Iwas wondering if jose Le Clark was so
good for the World Series. Theywon the World Series, and but he's
he had given up runs and threeof his four appearances. Did you was
(03:30):
any party thinking maybe to try hecouldn't. What did you? How are
you? Will you handle the bullpen? That's a really good fake sake,
sir, I don't want to watchsports anymore. Last night, sweet,
(03:51):
after that, Sweet, Evan Carterhit a home run and I was like,
all right, we're saved. We'regonna win this thing and then win
everything he can. Jose Clerk waslike, watch this man, Yeah,
you're gonna win. Huh f nothingyet but this five't three kid hit
his third home run of the day. Lose to Oakland. Three home runs?
(04:14):
Yeah for that guy? Whatever forthe lamp? Loval lamp? What
yard? Three times? Now?He did do some damage against the Rangers
last year, too, Well,we need to stop inviting him to town.
But I mean, he's the A'sand the A's are are very very
(04:36):
insignificant right now. And I musttell you I don't have any idea what
his stats at the end of lastyear ended up being. I'm looking up
Lava lamp, but Lava Ant's notfinding him. I looked up Oakland a's
love lamp. It's probably not gonnaworry. What's his actual name? Ngeliers
(04:58):
Lingo Leers playing les Yeah, andhe's a local guy. I'm sure he's
a great kid. He's Bail,He's from Keller. He's two foot tall,
he's listened at six foot. Hiscareer batting average is two eleven,
but I'm sure against the Rangers it'snine hundred. Yeah. I was thinking
(05:18):
the Rangers save him from being aone hitter. Yeah, I was thinking,
what if we got Leclerk a jobis like a Rangers insider for like
our show or something, so hedidn't have to play sports anymore except gift
cards. Look, we got someKenny's gift cards for you, and we
want you to do a three minutehit every day on what happened in the
(05:43):
game. I'm taking the car.I don't ever want to be a pro
athlete because we don't have the giftcards anymore. They were taking this is
also I don't ever want to bea pro athlete because all I want to
do for four hours today is talkabout how bad Jose leaclerk is. And
I bet he's a sweet man.He is, but he didn't do well
for my baseball team. So Idon't want to something. No, you're
(06:04):
so heated today, Evn Carter hadall year, I hit a home run
to win the game. I've neverseen you in a game this much into
a game this year yet. Isthis because Evan Carter hit a home run?
Yeah, there's nine things that happened. It was the A's. They
suck. They don't even want towin. Marcus Simmon used to play for
(06:26):
them. You can't let him loseto the Oakland A's. It was an
Evaldi start. We can't lose Evaldistarts. If we lose Navaldi start,
the season's over because we don't haveany other starters. And Evan Carter hit
a home run to give us alead. Stop affing it up here.
You want to know the good news. Here's the good news, Emily.
The good news is that all thehitters are going in there and they're like,
guys, it's fine. Remember wedid this for one hundred and sixty
(06:49):
two games last year and we wonthe World Series. It doesn't matter if
our bullpen is ass because we evercame it last year. So we'll do
it again. Oh wait, thelight up hurt. Yeah, they're gonna
do it again. Be a goodtime to start. They're actually everything like
(07:10):
the same runs per game as theydid a year ago. So like,
yeah, they'll just carry it,no problem. But yeah, yeah,
here's Jeff freaking out over a random, stupid regular season game. Week three.
Stop putting Jose with Clark in baseballgames. Try a different position.
Maybe he's an outfit. Just puthim away in the back of the bullpen,
(07:31):
let him get his head together, and then try him again in the
middle of the year. Try himagain in June or something. Yeah,
I remember last year you kicked himout of being the closer after one game.
Why are you waiting this time?Do it again? Because they don't
have anybody else. They really don'tput the gram out there. He's been
thrown from ninety feet. I'm ready. I'd brother see anybody. I did
(07:54):
anybody. I have a list.I create a list if guys i'd rather
see close games for the Rangers, jseala clerk, and I have sixteen names
on it so far. No,there aren't that many guys in the bullpen,
but that's how many names I have. And if you would like to
text into the show at two, one, four, seven, eight,
seven, one nine seven one,who would you like to see close games
instead of JOSEA clerk. It doesn'thave to be a baseball player. Uh,
(08:16):
I like Zeim bring back Jim Panther. I don't know who that is,
and I'm in. He's a stalwartof the seventy two Rangers bullpen.
Is he alive? I don't knowI'm in, but either way, yeah,
I'm in. Panther. Yeah,Jim Panther, He's alive as hell.
Bro, there's got to be somelittle Panthers running around at this point,
right, I bet there is.See. I would you like it
(08:39):
if your last name was Panther,I'd be bad ass. That would be
bad ass. Jim Panther. Hiscareer record was seven and thirteen. He
had a five two six ERA andthat had had very well almost seventy two
Rangers, and that is almost threetimes lower than the Clerk's era this year.
So put Panther in. I demanded. I got a joke series that
(09:00):
I want you guys to do throughoutthe day. Text in jose Leclerk pitches
like I dot dot dot. Justthat's what we can start with, right
nine se We need Trevor Bauer,Okay, oh yeah, yeah, I'm
just I'm just I'm gonna need moredeats. We need Trevor Bauer. We
(09:22):
need more deats. No, he'snot going to jail, but I need
some more. I mean we played, we had Chapman, Yeah, we
had him. Chapman did some stuffand then honked his mom's boobs. We
hit him on the team. Yeah, we never even talked about that picture.
Well did that come out after heleft us? Yeah? He was
going. But still, how howdid I not get to talking about that?
(09:45):
You see the Chapman picture, Mike, Oh yeah, yeah, I
did, just all laid up onhis mom honking. That's a tight family,
man, That is a tight family. That's how it is in their
family. I don't know. I'vealways heard things are a little bit different
down on the islands, but I'venever been there, so I don't really
know. I don't think they're thatdifferent. You haven't seen a picture.
(10:09):
Just search all this Chapman. Hewas mom's boob. Hold on, I
got you heard all this Chapman mompicture. Here we go. No playing
on his mom with just a wholeMLB handful of boob. You have to
be by her microphone when you say, oh, yeah, okay. I
(10:33):
was going to try to defend himand say something about how it's okay to
show love to your family and especiallyyour mom. I'm all for that,
but you want to try to defendthat a definite boom honking of his mother
the nine to four oh, saysStephen Hawking. Why is he doing that,
durt? I don't know, ChuckNorris two on four. I trust
(10:56):
a fart after Poncho's more than Itrust a man. Ponchos just catching SCRAs.
So I had a great time talkingwrong with Ponchos. I was watching
sports last night and I was like, man, that was cool. The
Mavericks game was over in the firstquarter and it was like, hell,
yeah, what a day. AndI was watching the Rangers. I was
(11:18):
like, cool, they're winning.I was like, oh crap, it's
tied up. I was like,oh, yeah, we were winning,
and then I didn't And then whenthings fell apart, I think the Stars
won. I think I was watchingthem on my left eye. Did they
win there? Okay, okay, sorry, let me I just jam up
the whole sports desk. But youknow, we're not even pay any attention
to them, and they could bethe best thing out there. Right now,
I over here moaning about jose Leclerk. What else do we need about
(11:43):
Jose Park. Game number what sevenor something like that. I don't worry
about. What are we six andfive? Game number eleven? Okay,
it's time to get your crap together. It is. I can say I'm
in on the Stars now because lastnight I was somewhere and they had all
the TVs going, and I knowwe were down to one, and then
it was two, two, andthen it was three, and that might
have been the final. I don'tknow, But technically I can say I
watch the Stars. So now I'min here. I come. It's Stars
(12:05):
time, you know I because Cowboysan't trying their best, Rangers aren't trying
their best. This is officially MAVsand Stars only. Well, this is
the time we're supposed to shift ourattention to them as they wrap up the
regular season. You're ready for theplayoffs. So I think that's just fine.
Let's just let the Rangers marinate fora bit. Let's not get all
worked up about every single game.Let's just maybe give them a week.
(12:26):
Shift your attention to the Stars.Times start trading, and Baba and I
get worked up over every single pitchof every single game. Yeah, yeah,
that's the way I roll. He'sgot a closer. That dude's a
badass. Yeah, it'd be reallycool to have a closer if you're down.
If you're down to the a's inthe ninth inning, you lose.
I promise that dude's a monster.Our guy can't throw a strike unless he
(12:48):
wants to throw it right down.Join our team. Yeah, I'll trade
you the clerk and seeker. I'mjust trying to get closer. Take whoever
you want. Not ill trade you, Dack, You're closer, do it?
WHOA? What's all? Maxmile day? Where mine the same? What's
(13:24):
on today? Mike's mind is fueledby Celsius Essential Energy drinks. Ho's a
clerk, pitches like you talk sports. Jeff. Hey, I see you,
mister two one four, I seeyou have his number. You can
(13:46):
sign him up for naughty things. You and I are now enemies. It's
on like Donkey Kong. Well,if you will send me a little laud
at tude here, I well, none, you have the latitude Jose has
with me, buddy. Oh wow, I must bring the room down a
(14:09):
bit. I know we are,and we'll get right back to it here.
I'll be back. I'm gonna goget some food. Okay, go
get some food if you want to. I just got to say a couple
of words about a good friend ofmine and the biz who passed on to
the next plane last week. Andif you were watching The Mavericks last night,
(14:31):
you may have noticed when they wentto a commercial and things stopped down
and Mark Followell read a tribute fromthem to him, and it showed photos
of him with various media luminary typeswith whom he worked over the years,
of which I was one, andmy social started blowing up. Who is
(14:56):
that guy? Do you know him? Yeah? I do know him,
and he he was a behind thescenes guy, but he was damn good
at what he did. And moreimportantly than that, he was a fantastic
human being. And everybody who wasever around him absolutely loved the guy,
including me. Now I knew alittle bit better personally than professionally, because
(15:18):
along the way we became friends, and sometimes we would go over to his
house and hang out with him andhis wife. And Jordan was a little
girl at this time, and Iwill never forget how they were with her.
I mean, they treated her likeshe was their own. What's his
name? His name is Jim Feldman. Feldman. Yeah, he started.
(15:43):
I think we first met during theHS days and whatever the Rangers and Mavericks,
whatever their TV scene was. Throughthe years, he became part of
it, you know. The Iguess they they farm out the hiring of
all the people who work on thosegames, and whoever they farmed it out
(16:04):
to, they always got him andhad him do that thing that he did.
He was a producer. A lotof the time, he'd be the
guy in the earpiece or in theheadset of the play by play guy.
It was very knowledgeable about it alland very very good at his job.
He was wickedly funny. He hadan incredible, dry, amazing sense of
(16:29):
humor. Who could take something thatdidn't seem funny and just by the way
he put it, he would makeit funny. And he was one of
the most liked guys that I've everrun across in the business. Everybody who
worked with him liked working with himand looked forward to working with him,
and most of most of them Ihad more than one tell me that that
(16:51):
one of the things they look forwardto about coming to work every night was
getting to see him and having himentertain them in the way that he did.
He'd been having some hard trouble recently, and I was a little bit
stunned last week when I found thatlife support had come into play and they
(17:15):
had taken him off of it.I guess whatever happened could not be gotten
squared away. But I will misshim. I know all the people who
worked with him will miss him,and and it's just a real bummer to
lose a guy like the great JimJim Feltman for everybody who knew him or
worked with him. And that's whatI had to say, a happy guy.
(17:37):
Oh that sucks. So where didhe work? He was part of
the balley, Yeah, Fox Sports, you know all the things that it
became through the years. Yeah, going back into the HS days, you
probably did know him. Yeah.I mean you may not have known the
name, but you probably. I'msure he worked some stuff that you were
(18:02):
working on. He had to ofthem, Yeah, because he did everything
he did. If they did it, he did it, Baseball, basketball,
hockey, all of it, hedid it. Well, that's sad.
I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, And I don't know. I
know that it's not a name that'sreal well known out there, but I
(18:23):
haven't been able to stop thinking aboutthis ever since it happened. And then
when they did the thing last nighton TV, I thought, well,
Okay, if they're going to dothat, then I need to hold up
my into this. Well, thisis what's on Mike's mind, and that's
what's on Mike's mind. That's it. Yeah. I believe he was sixty
eight and just as I mean,my last memory of him as him being
(18:49):
the way he always was, whichwas active and ready to roll in whatever
way you wanted to funny, funall that stuff. It's just a real
bumber went something like this happens toa guy that you just never have imagined
something like that happening too. Doyou have that There's some people out there
(19:10):
that you just can't imagine. I'vebeen taking them down. Actually yeah,
I definitely had one of well hadmultiples, but just less than two years
ago. And I think it's somebodythat I would imagine. We all knew
that was in our industry when TedNichols Pain passed away. Oh yeah,
he was an incredible engineer. He'she was an awesome dude. He was
(19:36):
I don't know what was he fiftyfifty six? Yeah, active cyclist.
Every time we went to spring training, he and I would go hike Camelback
Mountain like he was in really goodshape, And that was one that a
couple of years ago, that onegot me pretty good. Yeah, it
was just like, no matter howyou do it, Like if you're a
if I were a very religious person, that would have been one of the
moments where you kind of look upand you're like, what the hell?
(19:59):
Yeah, what are you doing?Man? Yeah, somebody in their fifties,
in good shape and a freaking saintin the world and just plucked That
sucks. Yeah, it does. That sucks a lot. When was the
last time you had connected? Ithad been a while? You know how
(20:21):
this is this business is he getsgoing on his things, I get going
on mine, And if you don'tcross paths very alten as we did over
the last couple of years or so, you kind of lose touch. But
I don't know. I always felta connection with him, and I always
knew that if I did see him, it'd probably be one of those guys
that would pick up right where weleft off. Yeah, I'm sure you
(20:44):
guys have had those, yeah, plenty. Yeah, I figured that that
would be the way that it wouldhave been with him. But now,
to quote a great man, Iguess we'll never know. It's one of
those kind of weird things in lifewhen you leave a workplace, like you
get so used to seeing people everysingle day for however many years, five
(21:08):
ten years, and then all ofa sudden you get a new job and
it's just like you don't see becauseyour work people become your family in a
way, and unless you make thateffort to really connect and stay in contact,
and sometimes you never even really getto see him again. But there
are those people like him for youthat you just know if you do bump
(21:32):
into him, it's gonna be abig hug and it's going to be a
great catch up and how's your family, how are your kids? And you'll
be warned down the hall, andthen all of a sudden he'll start into
some story or something. Yeah, tell me about something that you know,
whoever's doing play by play that nightsaid at the last game off mic and
something like that. You know,it was just really easy to pick up
(21:53):
right where you left off those That'san amazing and really cool connection that you
have with some people in this world. But Jim Safe travels, my friend.
I will miss you. We willall miss you. Like they said
last night on TV, all right, we got a lot of stuff to
(22:14):
get to here today. We havea sports desk coming up. I do
believe. Yeah, what do youthink that's raight? Jeff? Yeah,
jewels so much about the Rangers rightnow. All of you people out there,
If there's anybody else like Jeff that'sstressed out about the Rangers, don't
worry. We have Kyrie and Luke. We're going to talk about them next
