Speaker 1 (00:08):
Light the beam, Let's get to it.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
It is the Friday edition of The Sports Cave with
Biggest Puma. I am your host, Sam Freees, affectionately known
as the Biggest Puma, broadcasting live to tape here from
the east side of San Antonio, decided to try to
knock out an episode here before I head north to
make it to my twenty year high school reunion. I'm
sure that'll provide plenty of stories in folly to cover
(00:32):
on some of next week's episodes. But still broadcasting live
to tape here from San Antonio today thirty four days
till spurs Opening night, and I'm going to try to
embrace brevity with this episode so we can get on
the road. But some things just require time, and I
think talking about Sho Heo Tani is absolutely one of
(00:56):
those things that requires as much time as it needs.
Because good God, last night, I mean, not only did
he make history becoming the first fifty to fifty player,
fifty home runs, fifty stolen bases in a season, first
guy to ever do it, first guy to ever come
close to doing it. You know, there's not even in
(01:16):
the history of baseball guys that have hit fifty home runs.
The next closest they came to hitting fifty stolen bases
was like thirty two, so it's never even been close
to done. And of course, because he's Otani, because he
is a living legend walking amongst us, because he is
arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, and he
(01:36):
only keeps adding skins to that wall to only further
his claims as the greatest of all time. Because he's
all of those things, he had to go out and
break the record, set the record, achieve baseball immortality, and
only the way he knows how, and that's possibly by
having the greatest regular season game ever.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
And I know.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Short's talk in general is always rushed to crown the
next guy, the next goat. We get tired of the
old and are always looking for the next.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Otani is a one of one.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
There is nothing you can say about him that would
be too hyperbolic. At this point, it's just insane. And
of course, you know, anytime there's a major achievement like
this in sports, you get the flood of sports nerds
like myself throwing out as many stats as they can
just to let you know how insane what you're watching is.
(02:32):
And last night was absolutely no different. I say he
did it and possibly the greatest regular season game performance ever.
Here's some support, here's some data to back that up.
Before yesterday, there were only six guys in baseball history
that ever had games with seventeen total bases in a game. So,
(02:54):
you know, you hit a home run, you get four
total bases. Only six guys ever had a game where
they accumulated seventeen total bases in a game. Otani did
that last night when he went six for six.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
The thing that.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Separates him from the other six the rest of those
games were four home run games. We're talking Sean Green's
four home home run game, Josh Hamilton, Mike Schmidt, Gil Hodges,
I'm leaving Scooter, Janette Gannette, and Joe Adcock. So you
know a lot of those names you're familiar with, some
maybe not so much. But every single one of those
(03:31):
guys achieved seventeen total bases based off of sixteen of
those being from home runs. Otani went six for six,
hit three home runs, achieve got seventeen total bases between
his other hits, and stole two bases in that game.
(03:52):
He's the only one in that group to even have
a stolen base in any of those games, so you
can Again, I don't think you can say anything that
is outlandish about Otani at this point unless you say
something negative because he's also rehabbing an arm that is
cy young potential. Every single year he can pitch thirty
(04:15):
starts in a season for you know, thirty five starts,
so you know this year. I guess if you wanted
to latch on to anything, you could say, well, I mean,
he's just dching, he's only playing half the game. But
I also think there's you could spin that around and say, right,
he's dhing. He's not getting to play in the field,
(04:36):
and he's still keeping his legs warm and body loose
enough to go out and steal fifty one bases now
in a season where he's hit fifty one home runs.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Just absolutely insane.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
And of course, you know, at the root of my
sports fandom and at the root of my sports obsession,
baseball will always be the one that's most special to me.
Baseball is my one true love when it comes to sports.
I was I was reminded by the great carry Von
Eric's foot that I need to tamp down my cowboys
(05:07):
apathy in my Cowboys nihilism, because if the Red Show
Rangers can win a World series, why are we losing
hope in the Cowboys? And he's not wrong, He's exactly right.
And that's you know, to talk some sense into me.
You can always return to baseball. And you know, just
what we've gotten to see from Otawni over the last
(05:28):
few years, and of course the wasted years with the
Angels I wasted in the sense that we didn't get
to see him on the postseason stage, like we'll finally
get to see this year with the Dodgers because perfect
symmetry last night they also clinched a playoff spot, so
we got to see Otani do something we've never seen before.
(05:48):
We're gonna get to see Otani in the postseason like
we've never seen before.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Again, as the as a kid who's babysitter most summers
was a two thirds empty ballpark watching really really bad
baseball up in North Texas. I nothing stops me down
more than history in baseball and add in the just
the longevity of the sport and being able to compare
(06:17):
what Otani's doing now to what guys were doing one
hundred years ago, and even further back and.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Still feel like it's as close.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
And direct of a comparison as you can make when
you look at the history of all the other sports
out there, baseball is still the one where numbers matter
the most. And for a you know, former corporate data
analyst and numbers nerd like myself, I think that's the
romantic side of baseball.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
The other romantic side of it is look at the
Red Sox season this year. I saw this pop up
yesterday on a side note. They they're exactly yesterday. They
were exactly and they had given up exactly the same
amount of runs as they had scored. They were a
perfect five hundred team. And I know that isn't what
(07:10):
Red Sox fans want to hear, But it's the numbers
aspect of baseball like that that still drives me back
to the you know, nostalgia of being a kid and
reading box scores and you know, listening to George Will
talk about baseball on a Ken Burns documentary. I mean it, baseball,
more so than any sport, connects with my actual true
(07:34):
passion for sports. So you know, to get to get
to watch Otani, uh not just last night, but I
mean over the last few years, and to hear the
arguments of you know, him being even mentioned in the
same name as someone like Ruth or any of the
all time greats. I again, I don't think you can
(07:54):
be too hyperbolic at this point. The dude is unreal
the definition of base ball immortality, as we saw last night,
And I'm gonna our interstitial today between segments, gonna play
some of the audio of that of Joe Davis's call
last night, because I thought he handled it incredibly well too,
because you get I can't imagine being the announcer getting
(08:17):
to watch that every day, much less the announcer that
replaces Vin Scully. And you're thinking, oh, well, how am
I ever going to fill those shoes? Well, here's Otani
stepping in to make my job a little easier. And
I thought he nailed the call last night. But enough baseball.
I've already I said I was going to embrace brevity.
And that's almost already ten minutes on the greatness of Otani.
(08:40):
So a couple other headlines. Obviously, we always start with
what I watched last night. Luckily, O'tani got the record
breaking performance in before the football really kicked into gear. Also,
I mentioned yesterday there was no college football. My apologies
to app State at at Southern Alabama.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah yeah, major Applewhite where he's at now.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
My apologies to the student section sliding down the mudhill
at app State. I didn't check any other scores outside
of the top twenty five to see if there was
a college game on last night, but obviously the main
game on was the Thursday night football Jets handled the Pats.
(09:24):
The NFL is such a silly league. I put this
out on social last night as I was watching the game.
That's a Pats team that beat the Bengals in Cincinnati
eleven days ago. No league drives me more insane because
of results like that, because if you watched any of
that game last night, it didn't even look like the
(09:45):
Pats belonged on the same field for most of it.
And a lot of that is because Aaron Rodgers looked
like he was thirty instead of forty.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I mean, Rogers might actually.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Not that he's going to be his decade old former self,
but the flashes are there again, and I think, I mean,
if you're a Jets fan, you got to be excited
about what you saw last night, except maybe Rogers and
the head coach Sala having a bit of an awkward
exchange as Sala went to hugg him after one of
(10:20):
the touchdowns and Rogers pushed him off. But outside of that,
I'm not sure what you can plain in as a
Jets fan, except for, you know, we had a Moses
end up look like a bad injury their right tackle,
So didn't see a headline or a follow up there,
but it did not look good. He was the classic
(10:40):
lineman that got rolled up. On the highlight of the game, though,
was a Cowboys meme that was floating around social of
Braylan Edwards looking good running behind Tyron Smith. Oh well, then,
I mean that's got a bode well for the Cowboys offense.
I'm sure they took Braylan Allen with a fourth round
pick like they should have because they knew they needed
(11:01):
to address their running back room. And they've got Tyron
leading the charge on the left side of the line
for a rookie running back. Oh no, wait, it's the Cowboys,
so of course they didn't do any of that. They
let Tyron walk, which I've been on record before. I'm
not necessarily saying that was a bad idea. But obviously
(11:21):
the run game through three week two weeks here, I
think we can all agree that taking a using a
fourth or fifth round pick on a running back like
Braylan Allen like the Jets did this past NFL draft,
probably would have been in the Cowboys' best interest.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
But it's Friday.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
We've had plenty of Cowboys Debbie Downer content all week.
I've again carry von Eric's foot picked me up out
of the gutter a little bit, because if the Rangers
can win it, why not the Cowboys. And if they
go out and blow the doors off of Baltimore, or
even if they go out and win a hard fought content,
(12:01):
I'm gonna be right back in because that's what we
do as Cowboys fans.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
It's such a week by week league.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
That's why I always fall back on the Cowboys nihilism,
where the Cowboys apathy. There's nothing they can do over
the course of seventeen regular season games that's going to
make me feel better about their playoffs, hope, playoff success,
playoff hopes. The only thing they can do to fix
that is actually have anywhere close to the amount of
(12:30):
playoff success that the rest of the league has had
over the last thirty years, so just get into the
playoffs and then we'll figure the rest out. But enough
Cowboys talk for the week. One other headline before we
jump into our college football and high school football preview.
Did see that the Sixers locked up Joel Embiid to
(12:52):
a three year MAX extension. Technically it's a one hundred
and ninety three million dollar extension, but really, when you
add the two years he currently has left on his deal,
it's basically a five year deal for three hundred million dollars,
taking him all the way through twenty twenty nine. And
as we get closer to the NBA season tipping off here,
(13:13):
we're gonna every week, at minimum on Wednesdays talk a
lot of NBA. But I am left wondering. You know,
the Sixers did everything they could to bring Paul George in.
They've now got Embiid locked down for the next five years.
They've got Maxie locked down with his MAX extension he
signed earlier this offseason. So there's your three man corps
(13:36):
is Embiid, Maxie, and Paul George. Enough in the West
to make it past Obviously, the Celtics aren't going anywhere.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
That roster's locked in.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
There's not a whole lot of fluidity that you can
expect over the next five years over the course of
this embiid contract. And then the Knicks went out and
reunited the entire Villanova Wildcats national championship teams, and all
of those guys are locked in for the next four
three to five years. So the East, now, I think
(14:06):
clearly we talked about it a couple weeks ago. You know,
there is such a drop off between the elite, top
tier teams in the East and everybody else, and I
think this just kind of solidifies that gap of I
think we're gonna see a lot of playoff matchups, playoff
battles between Celtics, Knicks, and Sixers over the next few years.
(14:28):
But as I said, attempting to embrace brevity here as
the roommate is like staring over my shoulder making sure
we get on the road at the right time. Because
I learned long ago that disappointing my mom is never ideal,
but I can recover from it. The roommate is much
(14:50):
more forceful with my schedule when it comes to getting back,
getting back home on time to spend some time with
the family. Again, this is not embracing brevity. I've wasted
another thirty seconds. So without further ado, here's Joe Davis's
great call last night of the Otani insane performance baseball immortality.
(15:11):
On the other side, let's talk some college football watching
this guy.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Oh my gosh, so hey, Otani, the greatest day in
baseball history.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
This is not real life, man, what a moment, what
a call? The great Joe Davis on the game last
night on the broadcast from the Dodgers affiliate. Again, I
mean said enough, And I could listen to that play
by play call over and over on repeat.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
It just it sounds.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
It reminds me so much of being a little kid,
and you know, seeing something out of baseball, Like you're
sitting in the outfield bleachers with your buddies and all
of a sudden, Juan Gonzalez cranks one above your head
out in the left field home run porch and you're
just all screaming.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Oh my gosh, this can't be real.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
That was Joe Davis last night on the call for
Otani's record setting night.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
But enough baseball.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
It is Friday, so that means we got to talk
a little college football, do a little jump around I
think it's a much better week overall this week. Last
week was a pretty down week in terms of tantalizing matchups.
We'll start tonight. We do have a ranked matchup Illinois
at Nebraska. It's good to see I mentioned this before
(16:46):
talking about childhood nostalgia. It's good to see Nebraska back
not only relevant, but a bit of a dark horse,
hopefully a dark horse power reclaiming some of their former glory.
You know that Ryola true freshman starting quarterback absolutely looks
like a stud. He'll be climbing draft boards in two
(17:07):
years when he's draft eligible.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
But it's not.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
You know, the only bad part of seeing Nebraska rise
back up the rankings is knowing that it's fueled by
Matt Ruhles.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
So take the good with the bad.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
But it's good to see the red and white of
the Huskers back relevant and playing ranked games against Illinois,
another upstart, undefeated Big Ten team. Turning to Saturday, we
start with the Fox Big Noon game, which is a
bit of a downer I would say overall, but they're
in the back pocket of Ohio State. They will be
(17:44):
in the Buckeye State to watch Marshall come into town
to take on number three Ohio State should be a
snoozer game day This week definitely has the better matchup
the Josh Hipel's return to Oklahoma his first trip back
to Norman, with number six Tennessee coming into town to
(18:07):
take on number fifteen Oklahoma. We've talked quite a bit
about how Oklahoma so far hasn't looked necessarily even worthy
of their ranking in some of these non conference matchups
so far. This is definitely their first true big test
and Tennessee is absolutely a test. I mean that offense
when they get rolling, it is hard to stop that momentum.
(18:29):
And Oklahoma is going to have to lean on the
defense to get some stops because I just I don't
think they have the offense right now clicking to keep
up with Tennessee if it turns into a high scoring affair.
But it should be a good test to see where
Venables has this thing before they really get it.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
It's so weird.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
This is an SEC game now that is still unstable
in my brain. But I will wrap my head around
it and get through it. Along with all of y'all's support.
Texas starts going through the SEC schedule just weird matchups.
This whole season looking at game. You know, USC Michigan
is a big ten game. Now Utah Oklahoma State a
(19:12):
big twelve game. So this is the first really big
SEC matchup that is causing my brain to have a
little bit of tired head. But I would think Tennessee
takes care of business there. I mentioned the USC Michigan game.
That's number eleven undefeated USC traveling to the big House
take on number eighteen Michigan. We mentioned earlier this week.
(19:35):
Michigan made the quarterback change, went to the Texas kid
Orgy as starter. Now probably should have been the way
from the beginning of the season, but we'll see what
he can do. Much more of a run first quarterback,
so I would imagine they start to fall back on
some of their hard nosed, you know, physical offensive principles.
(19:56):
But that USC team so far looks like they've got
playmakers put points on anybody's defense. So should be a
good matchup. Weird again, big ten matchup. Now, then we
got the matchup of the geriatric quarterbacks as Cam Rising
in Utah travels to face Bowman, the former tech kid
who's now at Oklahoma State, both of them in their
(20:17):
seventh eighth years of college. You combine their two ages
and they're almost fifty years old combined. But that is
a good matchup on paper. Both undefeated Utah number twelve
Oklahoma State number fourteen. Still Waters should be buzzing, especially
after the way they snuck out last week with that
win over Arkansas and then local games, not really any
(20:43):
big local games of note amongst our Texas contingent. We've
talked at length this week about Arch getting his first
start as number one Texas takes on Louisiana Monroe. The
Ags are back in the rankings. Good to see they
have number twenty five. A and M has bowling green
coming to Kyle Field. Always always a good visual on
(21:07):
the television for a night game at Kyle Field, even
better if you're in attendance. I would think A and
M handles that and starts to get some mojo back
under new coach Mike Elko after they demolished and embarrassed Florida. Surprise,
Billy Napier still hasn't had that conversation about his buyout
approached yet. But for our friends in the Panhandle, Tech
(21:32):
after finally showing some offensive signs of life against North
Texas last week. They have an upstart undefeated Arizona State
traveling to the Jones this weekend should be should be
an interesting test honestly for both teams.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
I think Tech is still you.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Know, obviously, when you get your All American running back
back healthy, your offense looks a little better. And that's
exactly what happened last week against North Texas. But this
Arizona State team seems like they are going in the
right direction at the bare minimum. Obviously, only two wins
last year, already past that this year, and we've talked
(22:12):
about it a lot, the power vacuum now in the
Big Twelve of who is going to step in and
really assume control of the conference. In another matchup within
the Big Twelve, undefeated BYU and undefeated Kansas State, talking
again about you know which one of these teams are
(22:33):
going to rise to the top through the conference schedule,
especially with so many unfamiliar opponents now within the conference.
You know, it's it's really weird to see Arizona State
and Tech playing a conference game. It's really weird to
see BYU in Kansas State playing a conference game, even
(22:53):
though that one's been the case for a year or
two now, so again not a whole lot of great
local matchups. It's a lot of get right weeks for
most of these teams, including UTSA hosting Houston Christian at
the Dome this weekend. If you're wondering, parking is completely
full already, so if y'all are scrambling for late minute
(23:16):
parking options near the Alamo Dome, my lot is completely full.
But there's plenty of other home games. UTSA has a
back end home schedule, so you know, if you do
ever need parking, don't hesitate to hit me up. And
then one that's close to my heart, the old battle
for the Iron Skillet, which appears to be going away
(23:39):
as TCU and SMU are now in not only completely
different conferences, but you know SMU and the ACC now,
which is again unstable. That's my word of the week.
A lot of sports right now are unstable because of
all of the massive changes, despite a lot of them
(24:00):
in the long run being positive and giving me more
of what I want in terms of sports consumption. But
it will be it will be pretty sad to see
TCU and SMU not play each other anymore. My grandpa,
a county judge up in North Texas passed. My namesake
passed away before I was ever born. It's the reason
(24:21):
why you see me every now and then post some
ALECX Samuel W. Freese County Judge. It's because my grandpa
was an SMU guy and county judge from back in
North Texas, back in my hometown. So definitely rooting for
the Ponies. They did make a full time quarterback change,
which pretty surprising to see them bench Preston Stone, but
(24:43):
the Jennings kid from South Oak Cliff is absolutely a
stud in of his own right. So SMU had a
bit of an early season crossroads the TCU hoping to
bounce back from that last second loss they took to
UCF last week. So pretty good college slate overall, I
would say, I mean, there are certainly games to be
(25:05):
excited about outside of your direct rooting interest here locally,
But enough college talk. Let's hit some high school top
five rankings here before we close out with Who Won
the Internet, where I will be joined as always anytime
her schedule allows. On Fridays, the roommate will join me
for little Who Won the Internet to close out the week,
(25:26):
But mentioned I want to talk more high school football
on Fridays. This week is a little crammed because I
am running out the door as soon as we finish
recording this to head back up north to my hometown.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Where my high school.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
This is really hard for me to fathom because we
were always decent at football, but we were much more
of a basketball school twenty years ago now whenever I
was there.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Now they are a full blown football school.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
They're coming off back to back years of state semi
final appearances, something that they had never done before previously
until two years ago, and back to back appearances. Now
they keep losing to Gilmer and Carthage, which of course
y'all know. I mean Jeff Traylor built that program in
Gilmer to be able to beat Carthage, and now both
(26:18):
of them are basically the two teams that are keeping
my high school from playing at Jerry World for a
state championship. So we'll be going back for homecoming this weekend.
They're taking on it seems a team they always seem
to have trouble with Waco Robinson, so hopefully they get
a solid win and I'm not the jinks that causes
(26:41):
them to fall from I think I saw Dave Campbell
had them number two in the state even so just
insane for me to wrap my head around. But here locally,
last week we rolled out some top five rankings. A
bit of a shift this week because we did have
pretty surprising loss, I would say, and among the teams
(27:04):
that were ranked last week, so we'll just start no
change at number one. Sibylo Steel absolutely head and shoulders
above the rest of the area. It would appear so
far at this point in the season. They smoked brand
Dice last weekend fifty six to ten. Have a pretty fun,
tantalizing matchup tonight versus Westlake. If you are in the area,
(27:29):
I would suggest might not be a bad idea to
pop out to Sibylo watch that Steel Westlake matchup. And
then here's where the changes in the rankings come. I
got Piper jumping all the way up to number two.
They destroyed Davenport last week, which you know we thought
potentially could be the best game of the week. Well
(27:51):
it wasn't even close. Piper won forty two to seven,
and then ended up beating Wagner last night thirty five
to twenty one. So even the Piper's a smaller school
compared to the rest of the top five here, I've
got them jumping all the way up to number two.
Mentioned teams falling out previous number two. I'm pretty sure
(28:13):
I had them number two, Reagan. They ended up losing
to that Temple team last week nineteen to fourteen in
a pretty ugly game, so droped Reagan out of the
had them at number two last week. That's why I
take notes. Always nice to have the notebook had Reagan
dropping out, Piper moving all the way up to number two,
(28:34):
and then number three. We got Alamo Heights beat last
week beat New bronfles Canyon fifty five twenty seven, and
then last night with Don Harris on the Call, the
Great Don Harris beat Clemens thirty eight to nineteen.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Fun fact.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
The roommate's first job here in San Antonio the reason
we live here in San Antonio and have lived here
now god going on fifteen years. She got the first
job offer out of college when we were both trying
to figure out where we were gonna move to. We
wanted to live in the same city. I was at
(29:10):
Texas State, she was at Texas Tech, and her first
job offer in media her profession, mass calm, was at
WAI TV here in San Antonio, where got to meet
the great Don Harris back then. And it's pretty it's
pretty funny sometimes when you you know, when I guess
(29:32):
I'm feeling nostalgic because of my reunion this weekend, but
pretty funny to look back and see some of the
some of the ties that bind us to the city
now a decade and a half later. But as I said,
Don was on the call last night for that Alamo
Heights win over Clemens coming in at number four. We
(29:52):
got Brennan. They smoked Soda Maior last week, thirty eight.
Nothing smoked Harlan last night as well, fifty one to fourteen.
And you remember we talked about it last week. There
was there was that whole cross cross record of Brennan, Reagan,
and Smithson Valley all having you know, Brennan lost to Reagan,
(30:15):
Brennan beat Smithson Valley. I think I have that correct,
but it was all you know, they were all.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Tied up together.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Yeah, Reagan beat Brennan but lost to Steel, Brennan lost
to Reagan but beat Smithson Valley, and then Smithson Valley
obviously had the loss to Brennan. So just because of
the head to head matchup. Keep Brennan at number four
and then number five got Smithson Valley. There they smoked
Madison last week sixty five to nothing. And Buddy, I
(30:45):
would be lying if I told you I wasn't incredibly
hyped for the Smithson Valley Piper game next week. Smiths
and Valley off this weekend, preparing for that Piper matchup
next weekend. So number two versus number five to look
forward to next weekend should be should be a pretty.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
It's good to see. It's good to see San.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Antonio have some teams that not only are good in
the region, but you know, are really climbing up the
state rankings. And all all five of those listed you
can find in most of the top tens within their division,
within their regions, depending on what ranking service you're looking at.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
But enough sports for the week.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
We've talked our ass off about everything we can from
Champions League, NBA, NFL, college football, high school football. It's
time to bring in the roommate for a little Who
Won the Internet? We definitely need an open for this segment.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
It feels like it's going to be a recurring enough
segment that it needs to have its own imaging to
steal a radio term. Maybe maybe one of the local
musicians hint, hint that we know out there that listens.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Maybe they could create us some little ditty for well,
so to speak. We'll get to that. Maybe they could
give us.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Something that we could use every week for this segment.
We'll get to work on that. We'll have our people
get to work on that. See if we can't arrange it,
because as I said, we are going to do this
every Friday that your schedule allows, and thankfully week two
of this whole operation and your schedule allows it. As
we prepare to run out the door to head back
(32:30):
to Glen Rose, I am joined for the second installment
of Who Won the Internet by the Roommate? And for
those that might not be in on the reference, the roommate.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Is absolutely my wife, Steph.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Like it's Hi, yeah, Hi, there for evidence she is
here in the flesh. No, it's a what more is
your roommate besides? Or what more is your wife besides
your ultimate roommate? So that's where the reference is from.
I don't want anyone to think that it's literally just
a guy or a girl that lives on our couch
(33:07):
like it's not. It's my roommate in the most personal
sense of the word. I think you would agree with that, right.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Yeah, I love being roommates.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
See, so there there's no ill will for anyone that
might have gotten the wrong idea. Now that that's out
of the way, we're back for week two. We flipped
a coin again. Steph won the toss this time and
has elected to receive.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
So what do you got for me?
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Okay, so this week I had a couple of trash
television things across my feed love it. One of those
being The Golden Bachelorette. And I'm not even going to
stop down on that. That's just an honorable mention.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
But wait there they're doing it again.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Yeah, but it's a lady, Okay. I mean it makes
sense so.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Way better than the gold I would think you're getting.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Way more viewers on the Golden Bachelorette than you are
the Golden Bachelor.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
I don't think the Bachelor nation really cares.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Okay, fair, moving on.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Yeah, the one that I really want to talk about
is Emily in Paris and how absolutely absolutely horrid it is,
but how great it also is at the same time.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
I did. That's one thing I don't understand. Like I know,
I will throw on a terrible mid conference college football
game on a Saturday just to have something in the background.
So I can understand slightly the appeal of having something
just trash on to have something on.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
But there's so many other things you could watch. Why
do you hate watch something that's so so bad that
everyone agrees is so bad.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Well, I mean what's bad is the dialogue and the
lack of storyline and really the overall acting. But the
good things are I mean, it's in Paris. Paris is beautiful, right,
and then all of the fashion everything that she's wearing,
like it's really just I don't know, it's aesthetically pleasing.
You're not really listening to it to get the story
or if you are a more power to you, maybe
(35:04):
that's your thing, you know, no judgment, but yeah, no,
Emily in Paris is everywhere and it's mostly bad bad
conversation online, but everybody's watching it. So she wins.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Yeah, Well she's nominated.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I mean, yeah, so she was trash television fair.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
That's your an official nomination, not for Golden Bachelorette.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
That's an honorable mention.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Ah, yeah, if you call it that, I'm just just
bringing up the fact that it's back.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
It just feels like it feels like the Golden Bachelor
series legitimately might have gotten under a skin here too.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
I don't love it. I don't love it. The reason
I'm in Bachelor Nation is for Paradise, and they skipped it,
and now that there's another Golden one, I'm just I
don't know. I might be out on the franchise until
until the Beach comes back. But god, I don't hate me, everybody.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Are they going to invite the old people to the beach?
Speaker 4 (35:56):
You know that's been a fear of mind since the
first announcement. But we won't know until the beach comes back.
And my friend Kim told me when it is and
I can't remember, but yeah, it's coming. The beach is
coming back.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
The date is circled. Yes, okay, we have confirmation. All right,
what else you got for me? Then?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Okay? So my other story this, I mean, it came
out at the beginning of the month. I think the
video is posted, but it just keeps crossing my feed
and this week it's added a layer. So do you
know what Timu is.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Like a Chinese etsy basically.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Yeah, I'll take that description. That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Yeah, it's a Chinese company that sells cheap products, homemade
cheap products.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Uh yeah, yeah, that's that's that's a fair that's a
fair assessment. Yeah, so things that take a long time.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Have you get bought anything from Tiu?
Speaker 4 (36:42):
I have, personally not, and this may be part of
the reason why. So this girl posts a TikTok and
she says her sister gets her this lamp. It's a
croissant lamp. It's adorable, blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Wait wait wait you mean literally just like a French
pastry croissant lamp.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Yeah, I mean a food yeah like that. You know,
just a lamp looks like a croissant.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Well, it's not one thing. I wouldn't have ever combined
those two things. So I'm just making sure my head's
in the right place.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Yeah, I think it's actually like it's really common or
like the banana pillows, croissant pillows, like, I don't know,
it's food items are everywhere. So yeah, just a lamp
version of a food item. Well, she has it in
her room whatever, and there's ants everywhere. When she comes
home from work, She's like, what is going on? And
then she realizes cracks it open. Actually, this girl, bless
her heart, takes a bite, oh, to prove that it
(37:32):
is actually a real pastry. So anything to go viral. Yeah,
I mean it's literally a real pastry turned into a lamp.
And then the layer this week that I find hilarious.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Wait, how did they preserve it?
Speaker 2 (37:42):
I'm just because now I'm just imagining an actual croissant
as the base of a lamp.
Speaker 4 (37:49):
Well, I mean the light was inside of the croissant.
It was a large croissant. But yeah, they just dipped
it in resin and then shipped it.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Okay, Yeah, I guess I would expect nothing.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
So resin covered food is now something going on at TIMU.
And now this this week, I've been seeing everybody say,
oh my gosh, I have these Tu chicken nugget key chains.
Oh no, that I swear just chicken nuggets dipped in resin.
So I'm curious about what else comes out with the
food dipping at TEMU.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Yeah that feels I mean, first of all, that feels
like a health hazard to begin with, shipping that across
I mean, like, what else are you picking up? If
it's everything's going to be attracted to it on the
course of it being shipped to you. It could you know,
like all of the regulations about like removing bugs from
their natural ecosystems and bringing them the continents or they're not. Yeah,
(38:44):
it's not good that that's at chalcol up to another
disadvantage of globalization.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Yeah, so that's what I bring to the table today.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Man, those are pretty good. Those are pretty good.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Well, since you gave me the choice last week, I
got a good and I got a bad story.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Which one do you want first?
Speaker 4 (39:04):
Good?
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Okay, I was hoping that's what you'd say, because the
good story is a really really good story and the
bad story is a it's a pretty bad story.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
So the good, we'll start with the good.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
I know, if y'all have followed along for the last
few years, I am not the biggest fan of Dabo Sweeney,
not the biggest fan of the way he runs his program,
not the biggest fan of the contankerous nature he has
against player empowerment or any of his guys getting a
single penny based off of the labor and work that
(39:40):
they're doing to make him a millionaire. If you'll remember,
Dabo threatened to retire if any of his players ever
got paid a single dollar. Still waiting on that resignation letter, Dabbo.
But regardless, as much as I bashed Clemson for what
I view as justified reasons, this crossed my timeline earlier
(40:00):
this week.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
And this is awesome.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
This is the perfect example of the power of bros being.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Bros of the boys.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
As Shane would say, So, Clemson is leading the nation
right now by creating a program that allows special needs
students to be able to rush fraternities. Oh yeah, it's awesome.
If y'all haven't seen the video, just search you know
Clemson special needs frats and watching you know, these dudes
(40:32):
get these boys, get their note of saying, you know
where they're going to be rushing who they've you know,
been chosen by, and then just absolutely like it's nothing different,
joining in with the boys and celebration it. It's it's
things like that that remind me like it's this is
not such an evil place as we want to be,
(40:54):
as we want to think it is. There are still
people out there, even under the ban of Dabo Sweeney's leadership.
Per se doing some really really awesome things, and that
video as soon as I saw it, it stuck with
me for seventy two hours.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
I just couldn't get it out of my head.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
How awesome humans actually can be to each other. And
it's just good to see examples like that as we traverse.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Unprecedented times for lack.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Of a better phrase, over the last four years, it's
good to see some positivity shared and spread through humanity.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
Yeah, that was an awesome video. Yeah, that's a good one.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Yeah, I shared it with you earlier this week. That's
a good one.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
But I'm afraid the bad one is even worse than
that one is good. Do you have any guests. I
think it's on everybody's feed this week.
Speaker 4 (41:57):
Yeah, I think I might know, and thought a lot
of it was in SFW.
Speaker 5 (42:01):
Yourself chose a different pathe We're definitely on the same
page here that it's definitely in SFW, But we're gonna
tiptoe to try to keep this as family friendly as possible.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
Let's just put it this way.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
If you find your name listed in federal charges and
among the evidence they confiscated from your personal property from
your house was.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
A wall of a.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Thousand bottles of baby oil and lube and over eight
hundred deals.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
I think that's SFW enough to say, like, that's not good, buddy,
that's not good.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
You. You've probably taken some wrong steps along the way.
Despite how forceful Boosy is and his defense of like,
I don't understand what the problem is. I give girls
a little money after they leave all the time, just
to make sure they get home safe, have a little dinner,
scratch a little money to get some food, maybe get
(42:59):
a cab, maybe take an uber home. But now this,
this feels quite different with Didty. And of course I
say everyone has seen it cross their timeline.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
I don't think I'm.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
Breaking news here on a Friday afternoon, just how much
trouble Diddy appears to be in.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
But buddy, it's not good.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
It does not look good.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
Does not look good.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Quick shout out to mel kiper Junior, who throughout the
insane idea of eliminating two high safety defenses in the NFL.
I know that probably doesn't mean anything to you, but
that got under my skin earlier this week. If you
heard we talked about the changing defenses in the NFL
and just how much too high safety sets that defenses
(43:45):
are running now where it should allow the Cowboys to
actually open up the run game. I'm sorry, I can
see it on your face. I have complained about the
Cowboys way too much.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
This week, So let's take a vote.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Four nominees were officially going Emily in Paris, TEAMU Food,
Dipped Furniture, Clemson Special Needs Fraternities.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
And Diddy.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
Can I throw one more in?
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Ooh, I like a late addition.
Speaker 4 (44:14):
I still think Moodang may have won the Internet.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Okay, I'm glad you said that. I'm so glad you
said that because as soon as we did that segment
last week, I had seen the pictures of the hippo,
but I had no idea what they were. I'd seen
people sharing of like the hippo biting the trainer's knee cap. Yeah,
it's adorable, undeniably adorable. I feel like we might have
(44:38):
given the wrong winner last week. As much as I
love the old boy that drove his f one fifty
onto the Colorado Buffalo's football field.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
Yeah, but I mean even this week, she's still taken over.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
Man.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
I think the four we put up we're good, but
I still think really like Moodang won my Internet.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
I'll tell you the power of Moodang.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
My grandma shout out Granny Donna, trying to keep up
and listen to this program.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
She ended up seeing Moodang.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
On one of the you know, Good Morning America Today
show one of those on Tuesday, and she gave you
credit for pointing it out on last Friday's episode. So, I.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Think we've got a winner.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
That's my vote.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
I think it's pretty clear. I think you have convinced me.
Uh Moodang shafted last week.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Returning to battle this week, I think Moodang won the Internet.
Get get it girl. Well that'll wrap up another week
of broadcasting here. Got to get an opening and closing
for this segment because I think, uh hint, hint, wink wink,
I think we might be able to get some sponsorships
tied to this specific segment in the very near future
(45:51):
where it would be nice to have a little more
imaging behind it.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Yeah, we need a little ditty, y'all.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Okay again, probably John Mellencamp would probably appreciate if you
choose a different word this week. But yes, anyone out
there that wants to get in touch, maybe give us
a little ditty for this segment. Let's do some business
wrapping up another week. I can't thank you all enough.
We are literally running out the door to head back
(46:18):
to my twenty year high school reunion next week. Hopefully
should have some stories from that. Obviously, we'll recap all
of the weekend sports Top of the Week next week.
Really damn proud of where this thing is going. I'll
stop saying it eventually, but not yet till then. Y'all
have a good weekend, be safe, We'll see you next week.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Hey, kids, what do we say about drugs? Yeah,
