(00:02):
From the theme park capital of theWorld, Orlando, Florida. Is the
theme Park Podcast? Wait? Podcast? Is this radio? Why does everything
got to be so messy on thisstation? Anyway? Here's your host,
Dickerman, Jimmy D and Scott Harris. Welcome to the Theme Park Podcast.
(00:23):
Dickerman. Here, there is JimmyD. What's going on? Fellas?
And Scott Harris. Hello, weare virtual this week because there was a
giant thunderstorm not even raining where Iam. That's the weirdest thing. Yeah,
so you live kind of on theoutside. Jimmy lives in the middle
and over near Jimmy and then meon the opposite end towards a pop good.
(00:47):
It's like the end of times overhere right now. So welcome to
central Florida. I guess as weapproached the summertime, you get in some
red hunt and boom flashbacks, notrying to hold it down. Do you
have to go down and feed thepets or like cover their cages or anything?
Pet food store? No pets inside? Oh remember that? And somebody
(01:10):
feeds the cats that live around here. So I think the store does.
Oh great, fair old costs right. Oh, they're super they're super friendly
though, and so are the raccoons. Yeah, you can tell apart.
Yeah, wait till those uh superfriendly cats start barfing up hairballs on the
roof of your soft top. Gee, they're every there's a been Like I
(01:34):
think one time there was a caton my previous car that would sleep on
tops of There'd be nice little pawprints, like on my windshield, and
I'd be like, Oh, that'skind of adorable. A little gift,
A little gift. Yeah, that'sadorable. All right, we get we
get a hairball that looks like,I don't know, a D cell battery
has been wrapped in uh dirty cottoncandy and that just stuck to the roof
(01:59):
of your vinyl rooftop. I don'tknow. Not so cute. Well,
we could do pet talk for thenext hour and a half, or we
could get into some theme park news, because there is a lot of it.
Plus I got to go out thisweek and to a preview of a
brand new ride coming to Central Florida, the Newest. It's it seems like
(02:21):
it's almost I don't know what, maybe bi monthly that we have something huge
and massive opening up around here lately. Doesn't it seem like that it does.
Yeah, it's a bit of anarms race right now. Yeah,
it is so over at the coastercapital of Orlando. That is that is
their new dubbed names SeaWorld is openingup Pipeline. Have you guys seen Pipeline.
(02:43):
It is the world's first surf coaster. I have, I've I've seen
pictures. I've seen pictures. Iknow that it has been running, uh
ambassador previews for the last week.Yes, that's what they call their their
team members or their ass members.Where Sea World their ambassadors? Yes,
Degerment, when you wrote it,were there a bunch of dummies that were
(03:06):
made out of sandbags around you? They were not, No, it was
all. It was all fellow humanbeings. Actually, don't maybe they stuck
you in there for like the testingpart. Now that is that was not
the case. So what they hadthis week was their team member preview.
And so what sea World does fortheir team members is they let them bring
some guests with them. So Iwas able to come out there with my
(03:29):
daughter and a friend. So wegot to bring the team members. You
get to bring three total people withthem to go out and ride the coaster.
And I was amazed at how manyemployees are out at Sea World like
it's a big park. Yes,I get that, but man, it
was it was all a lot ofpeople. They just an incredible amount of
people that came out to to seethe new ride. So it officially opens
(03:50):
on the twenty seventh. It iscalled the world's first surf coaster, and
the way they describe this thing itis a it's a huge coaster. It's
you know, mega thrill ride. But they describe it as having dynamic seats
and the weights that I would describethese dynamic seats as you kind of your
butt kind of rest on this ledge. You are standing, but you kind
(04:13):
of rest on this ledge, butthe ledge is on hydraulics. So as
you're waiting for the ride to go, like before it's going to take off,
you can kind of just jump upand down and your feet will leave
the ground. The hydraulics will liftyou up and you'll come back down at
a at a you know, asteady pace, and that is the case
when you're riding the ride. Soyou're taking these big turns and these big
(04:34):
curves and your feet are literally leavingthe ground and you're coming back down.
Oh wow, really it's a reallyunique ride system. Um, I don't
know that I've seen it set uplike this anywhere else, but yeah,
I mean standing coaster first off, very unique. The hydraulics make it even
more unique just because you can leaveyour feet. And I did hear other
(04:54):
people talking that had ridden it moreI think team members, and they were
like, hey, if you ifyou you know, squat down at this
perfect you know this time, rightbefore this bank, you're going to get
maximum air the thing takes off.So apparently there's there's some strategy you can
take and you can maybe master surfingon the Pipeline coaster, but really a
(05:15):
Neat ride that's a pretty long ridetoo, as far as coasters go.
I mean another just massive coaster outthere at sea World. But m yeah,
super neat May twenty seventh is whenit opens for the general public.
If you're a pass holder Platinum pass, people get to go ride at this
weekend and then I think probably themost common pass for sea World would be
their Silver pass and that's the weekendof the twenty first And Jimmy, you
(05:41):
had sent me this, but theywere running I don't know, I don't
know if you looked at this closely. They were running a promotion last week,
and this is something you want tomight want to keep an eye on.
They're running a promotion last week whereif you bought an annual pass,
you would get the next level forthat same price. So if I wanted
to say I wanted a Silver,I would pay the bronze price. So
basically it was fifty three dollars amonth. Yeah, it's free upgrade,
fifteen dollars a month, no moneydown, that's just the price you pay
(06:06):
and you would get that includes yourparking, that includes two free tickets,
and of course the passes with noblackout dates, which I thought was just
a ridiculous deal, Like, Imean, you can't that's less than Netflix,
you know, I mean literally youpay more for Netflix than you would
for that particular price. You canstill get the bronze price for that price,
(06:26):
but I thought, you know, that was just a crazy deal.
We've talked about that a lot herebefore SeaWorld without a doubt, like if
you're you've got a family, oryou're going to theme parks on a budget,
that's the way to go. Sobesides riding pipeline, they really did
it all up for the people thathad to come out. They had food
for everybody, They had drinks foreverybody. You could go right through the
(06:46):
restaurant get get food. They hadanother area set up with ice cream,
more drinks, They had free popcorns. So it was it was a job
well done by SeaWorld. I willsay this, I came as a guest.
I wasn't an employee, it wasn'tin an official member umber of media.
I was just a guest. Andit was a great time and super
cool ride. So if you area passholder, if you're a coaster fan,
(07:08):
pipeline is definitely going to be onethat people are gonna be coming out
to to experience and see because theydid. They did a dynamite job on
this one. Did you have flashbacksto your surfer days with you and Kelly
Slater back in the day. Youknow, one time many years ago at
a surfest, Kelly Slater's brother cameand gave us all free sunglasses. That's
(07:29):
about as close as I've come toKelly Slater. What did you wear on
the coaster? Because that's I thinkwinner like you had to have worn like
trunks, Tommy Bahamas, shocks oreven a Hawaiian shirt, wet wet suit,
Ye, snorkel. It was.It was an afternoon in central Florida,
(07:50):
so my my clothes were a wetsuit by the end of the night
water Wings. But I will Iwill post a picture up on social outside
of pipeline because we did have that. We did get a shot of the
coaster in the background, me wearingpants in the summer, which was not
the wisest move. What it's easyto do. I do it all the
time. Were you wearing a uniform? Like, did you wear like a
(08:11):
Sea World of uniform and sneak in? Is that how? No? I
was an invited guests. Did youdress up as a dolphin? No?
But we did see the dolphins. They had the dolphins and they had Manta
running, which I haven't written Mantona few years, and I found it
to be terrified, and I rememberliking it before this. I'm like,
(08:31):
oh my god, this thing isscary. I still remember the first time
I rode Nanta and we're getting upto it, it's maybe like a year
after it opened. We get upto the front of the line because it
was part of a broadcast. Theywalked us right up and then we're standing,
we're watching the set of guests goand it does the noise when it
(08:54):
rotates. Yeah, and it soundslike a transformer trans forming yep. And
and I was like, I don'tknow if I can do this. Jimmy,
Jimmy. It was the most terrifyingnoise I have ever heard. Yeah,
Um, I still did. Yeah. Well, riding the ride like
(09:16):
I brought my daughter's friend is notlike a big coaster person's issue is really
nervous. Before pipeline. I'm like, it's gonna be fine, it's no
problem. And she did it.She loved it. Then we get to
Manta and I write it and Iget off. I'm like, okay,
I'm done. They're like, canwe go again? They went like five
more times. I'm like no,I'm I'm just I'm gonna hang out here
on the bench. I'm gonna getsome more popcorn. It also didn't help
that I a bunch of chicken fingersand French fries prior to that, so
(09:39):
I didn't really want to be hangingforward anymore. Sounds about right for you.
Yeah, I don't know what thatnoise is? Oh? Is that
the Oh? Is that the noise? The Manta noise. No, it
was just transformed. It was occukayfair enough. It's like it's like yep
and then it rotates you. Yeah, but it was a good time.
(10:01):
That great job by SeaWorld. Pipelineis awesome. If you like roller coasters,
one hundred percent recommend it go checkit out. May twenty seventh the
official opening date unless you're a passholder, Like I said, Platinum this weekend,
and then silver starting in the twentyseven. It's kind of like a
sliding scale Goldie next, and thensilver, then bronze and then you know
the fun pass people. Did youdo Icebreaker too? Was that running?
(10:24):
Icebreaker was not running, so Igotten to ride Icebreaker as of yet.
So it was just the two theyhad open, probably so more employees could
enjoy. You know, That's stillone people I felt bad for was the
poor folks that had to work thatnight. Everybody, it's all employees enjoying
the park except for the one,you know, the few people that have
to work the rides and the foodattraction. I do know that. Yeah,
(10:46):
I remember hearing that Mako had beenclosed last weekend. That yeah,
okay, makes sense, all right, Well, I know there's a ridiculous
amount of news, like crazy amountsof news this week, So you guys
want to jump into it. Yeah, yeah, we got some big news
because it's time to give a faunfarewell to Poseidon's Fury. People have been
(11:09):
making a big deal out of thatfor something that was like an afterthought for
so many that's been like everybody's beentalking about that thing. Yes, So
this past Wednesday was the final dayof Poseidon's Fury. They did it up.
They handed out wrist bands for everyoneso you can go back to experience
it earlier in the day and Ithink I think they all got distributed maybe
(11:30):
about an hour and a half afterpark open. Wow. Wow, that's
crazy. Now, Okay, alittle bit of trivia. Now that Poseidon's
Fury has officially closed closed, canyou name the remaining opening day attractions for
Islands of Adventure Opening day attracts andthe Islands of Adventure that I'm gonna say,
(11:54):
I can't have a hard time. There's seven. So you got one,
oh, spider Man, Spider Mantwo, okay, Doctor Doom,
three A damn okay, Curious GeorgeLand. Uh, how about that's not
a different park and also doesn't examine, I'm in the ride. I was
in the wrong park. Call mea little slack Barney again, wrong park
(12:18):
and not a ride, thank you. This is I swear to god,
this is like drafting fantasy football,a crash parks run together for me.
I'm sorry, it's not even aride, dude, I was talking about
rides, storm force acceleration. Nope, not opening day dress World Dress Park.
(12:39):
Yep, the Jurassic Park. Riverfalls yep. Finally get one right?
Um the uh the oh god, where is the sewer Dudley do right?
Yep? Rips off falls and Nope, that was not an opening day
Bludo's burge. Not an opening dayreally, yep? Two more, two
(13:05):
more, hold on, think kid, Doctor SEUs, Doctor SEUs. Uh
yeah yeah, the Doctor Seus's catand hat and and uh one fish two
fish for fish, bu fish herewe go. Yeah? Wait is that
the train? No? No,no, The High in the Sky SEUs
train trolley ride is the most fascinating. We should develop to devote an entire
episode to that because years yes, because the company that built it went bankrupt,
(13:33):
so it just existed as a thingthat went above you. There were
trains that would go buy that hadcharacters in them, but it did not
allow guests. All right, we'regonna have to do that one in a
special extra park hours deep dive intoa ride. Yes, we gotta bring
that back, um, real quick. One more thing up beside in the
spury. Did they think they stickthat? Like tried it at the Orlando
(13:56):
Airport or something? Did I seea picture of that? I think a
lot of people are photoshopping that.Yeah, okay, And I like,
wait, did I guess? Iknow Universal as like space there. I
thought maybe they dropped the the tridentthere. I will say, umh God
German, Just so you know,do not answer any emails from Nigerian princess
(14:18):
this week. Look, buddy, they can take out all the water in
the lake at Disney. They candrop that trident wherever they want at Universal.
Yeah. As a person who's workedat Universal and seeing how that stuff
works, now, okay, well, I know it's made of foam.
It survived hurricanes. I don't believethat. Yes, um, and the
(14:41):
rumors about Zelda taking its place arestill not going away. Well, I
mean it makes sense. Here's thething. I have this theory very quickly
that if I'm Nintendo in Universal.I see that the Super Mario Brothers movie
has is now up to eight trilliondollars made at the box office. Hmm.
(15:01):
You start fast tracking any Nintendo propertiesin these parks. You put Zelda
and Islands, you put Pokemon overUniversal Studios, and you have Mario at
Epic Universe. Have or some DonkeyKong. I want some Donkey kong is
at Mario. They're building a DonkeyKong ride. All right, Well,
I was just hoping they could maybemake that that place where Jimmy and I
(15:22):
used to shoot the moms. Justput the barrels in there instead of tennis
balls. Yeah, that would be. That would be where they would do
Pokemon. Okay, all right, that makes sense. Balls. Um let's
see what else? What else wegod? So farewell to Poseidon's fury.
Disney has continued to say that they'regoing to forecast lower capital expenditures, um,
(15:45):
which pushes theme park expansions into ahazy atmosphere. Okay, so there's
questions there. I mean, they'vealready got a lot of stuff planned,
you know, it's not like dothey name name them? Well, I
mean, we've got Tiana's Tianna's thing, we had that coming and uh,
(16:07):
and we've got whatever being built overat Epcot for the last seventy two years.
Mil wuanna there. I don't knowwhat that they wanna there they journey
through water walk through experience. Yeah. Well, and yes we got tron
that's new, Guardians is new. What else is new? I don't know
exactly. I'm out of ideas. That's the thing, you know, the
resolve of this. Oh, they'regonna build this utopia that wasn't really formally
(16:30):
announced. So there is that,um Disney. Speaking of Disney, they
had ending Okay, this is gonnabe like the weirdest, most complicated thing.
I'm gonna have to explain everything theydo lately is complicated, but please
go on. They will be endingtheme park reservation system for date based tickets,
(16:52):
but not until twenty twenty four.Oh geez, so beginning January nine,
twenty twenty four, you don't haveto make a reservation when you make
a when you buy a ticket. There's still just too much planning that goes
into trying to go to Disney asa family or as a group. It's
(17:14):
just like so much planning. Dowe get reservations, do we get the
Lightning Lane. Did we sign thefor gene Plus? What's available now?
Quick jump on? See if wecan get in a quick queue. Can
we perhaps maybe get on Guardians today? We don't know. We'll wake up
at six forty five and see whathappens. Well, I'm about to hurt
your brain even more because Disney hasalso announced their plans to drop theme park
(17:37):
reservations for pass holders. Well, that's nice on select days in twenty twenty
four. In twenty twenty four,we plan to offer select days on which
our annual pass holders and cast membersmay visit our parks without needing a reservation.
We will roll out these good togo days on an ongoing basis.
(17:59):
What's going on there? Like, what's who's Who's over complicating things over there?
Because it didn't used to have tobe this bad. I don't know,
I don't know. And then,in addition to this, Disney's going
to introduce pre booking of Disney GeniePlus Lightning Lane attractions in twenty twenty four.
(18:21):
Oh my gosh, that thing's stickingaround until twenty twenty four. Huh,
that thing's not going away. Yeh. That thing's awful. It sells
out Man, it's not going away, I guess. I mean, yeah,
if they're making money, kudos tothem, I suppose, and people
that are willing to pay it.So yeah, um, you still continue
to know how to read an Apicusand no quantum physics too, to navigate
(18:47):
Disney. I just want to beable to go to a theme park.
It's not making it more complicated.Yeah, the most magical place on Earth
is now the most confusing place onEarth. It's just it's a lot of
work now, absolutely, yes itis. It's still fun to go to
though, and I can't wait toget the chance to go to Disney.
Maybe absolutely magical, it's wonderful togo to the parks. It's just we
(19:07):
know what we had, and maybethat's just like an old time looking back
at sort of thing, like weknew what we had and we wish we
still had it and those days aregone by, so I don't know,
you know, then maybe the nextgeneration we'll just be like, oh,
that's just how it is. Alsoa lot of planning. Also, Yes,
in the seventies, when my momwent to Disney for the first time,
(19:29):
she had to have those little couponbooks. Yeah, the e tickets
and I bet you. The peoplethen were like, man, without these
E tickets, these lines are toolong. They need to go back to
that E ticket thing. You mightbe right, You very well might be
right. Um, speaking of Disneyguys, the lineup for Eat to the
Beat is out, Okay, hitme all right? Kicking off Oriente,
(19:57):
I'm waiting. I'm gonna wait tillyou say Earth Winning Fire. She's she's
the guitar player. Oh, Iknow who she is? Yeah for King
and Country, Southern Avenue. Tiffany, Oh, Tiffany's back. I know
Tiffany. That's the one. That'sthe first one. Ruben stuttered with Haley
Reinhardt. I know that guy.He was an American idol guy, the
(20:19):
Bacon Brothers. Yes, Kevin Bacon. That's a good one, fresh off
of guys. I'm wondering he justhung up on us. He's going to
buy tickets? Was this was here? Was this part of him being in
the Guardians Holiday Special? Baby?Because he plays guitar. He sings,
(20:41):
I'm gonna do this. You're gonnabook met my brother to do good and
give us, like, you know, a full weekend everything platinum passes.
Um, I want my brother Inthe Dud special for Guardians, James Gunn
puts his whole family in their oneup. Yes, and he's not the
only director that does that. I'mtired of that discourse on social media.
That's a thing that happened. Peoplecast people that they like, they cast
(21:03):
their friends in family. It's athing that's been happening for decades. Deal
with ittle defense that there's only sevendifferent actors in every Adam Sandler movie,
or or every Wes Anderson movie orSpielberg movies. It's a thing that happens,
all right. I mean, ifyou guys are good with nepotism,
so am I I'm fine with it. Uh. Then we have Joey Fatone
(21:25):
and Friends. Okay, he's he'sa local guy. It's good for him.
Joey Fatone was doing a Facebook adfor Pipeline. Yes, oh really
yeah? Nice um. Aaron Jones, new Artist, Philip Phillips, New
Artists, Ron Jones, a yr O n. Yes. Oh.
We used to play him on thestation. I think he played like an
(21:45):
Earth Day birthday. He was therelast year. I interviewed him. Man,
it's a good guy. Wait, isn't he a running back for Green
Bay No different one spelled differently.Uh Baja manner back Mercy me is Baha
men who let the Dogs Out?Yes, yes, I almost I feel
like I need to see that inperson. At some point in my life
I might need to do that.Ray Parker Junior Ghostbusters. That's the one
(22:11):
right there. Uh, Toby mackUm ninety eight degrees? Okay's is that
Nick Lasha? Is that right? That is Nick Lasha, Boys to Men,
Mark Wills, Sugar, Ray Hoobastank Air, Supply Taylor Dane,
Billy Ocean Hansen, We the Kingsone of my emo bands. Okay,
(22:36):
they've made it. They've made itnow. Hey man, Simple Plan was
there last year, so yeah,I love it when the new band gets
added. Though Sheila E Big BadVoodoo Daddy and closing out with thirty eight
Special. I gotta say, prettygood lineup this year. I mean it's
a pretty solid lineup, some excitingones, like some iconic songs like if
you're in the park, you needto see those live, right, Yes,
(22:57):
and they will be playing at theAmerican Garden Theater three times during the
day. Now. I know we'reclose on time, but Jimmy, do
you think Huey Lewis will be hangingoutside when Ray Parker plays Ghostbusters, just
holding out his money, waiting forsome really hold out his hand waiting for
some money. Yeah, you know, it's probably the only way he's making
(23:18):
money from live shows these days. You play you pay me, pay me
that money, Ray Parker. Soyeah, Summerson was here officially. If
that lineups out, then Summer's basicallyhere. That's true, all right,
Well, very exciting. Well,Pipeline May twenty seventh. Of course,
we've got that Epcot lineup coming up. Looks like looks like a good set
