community events, things that you can get involved with, or
things that you can you know, have access to. Just
in case you are going through something and you need
access and you don't know where to start. Community Corner

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Today, I want to introduce you to Jesse Richard Sion. Hi,
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Hi.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
She's the walk manager for NOMI. Now let me introduce
you to what NAMI is. It's the National Alliance of
Mental Illness. Now, Jess, can you remind us what is
mental illness? From one one all the way to the other.
What constitutes his mental illness?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, So mental illness has a lot of big range.
So that can range from your add ADHD, which is
where I am by the way, even you know, obsessive
compulsive disorder things like that, or can also range from schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, depressions.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
So it encompasses a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Actually that a lot of people I'm either have or
know of someone who have or dealing with So this
impacts a large population.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Of course in here in Cincion.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Sometimes you know, I hear stories of friends of friends
or people who call my show that are like, I
think my kid might have this, and it's brand new
to us, and we don't know where to go, and
we don't know where to start. So you want to
go to NAMI dash BC dot org. I want you
to remember that, and this will play in later into
the conversation if your ears are perking up, though, I.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Wanted to get you that info quick.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
This coming Saturday, NAMI is hosting their walk in Butler
County at the Fitton Center or in Hamilton County.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Hamilton, it's Hamilton, okay, but in Butler County.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
God music confusing. Thank god, we have Google masks.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
So you just type in the Finton Center and registration
kicks off at nine and then the walk will proceed
after that around ten am. Here's what I like about
this though, it's very low commitment, low entry, but probably
high reward. If you just show up. You don't have
to pay to get into this walk. But what the
walk provides you is conversation with one other people that

(02:23):
might be going through something similar. And two you've got
some professionals and some experts there kind of walk.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Us through that a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yeah, So we partner with local organizations and providers such
as we have Butler Behavioral Health, we have Beckett Springs.
We'll have representatives from the Mental Health and Addiction Recovery
Services Board there, and these people come and walk with us,
so they'll have their matching t shirts on. You know,

(02:52):
they'll bring their families and friends, and this is an
opportunity if you do have questions or if you just
you know, want us port system, this will be the
opportunity to kind.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Of prompt those conversations.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
You know, we'll be there to kind of direct if
you want to specifically talk to a specific kind of
person or if you.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Just want more information.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
We'll have a lot of volunteers there who have navigated
these systems or have gone taken our classes, taken our
support groups, right and you know, they can provide their
experience and you know, really just get to know them.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
And I think I'm not alone in this where I
like to soak up knowledge. You like to ask questions,
and sometimes when you're dealing with something that's new to you.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
You don't want you don't know where to start. I've
already mentioned that.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
But two, you kind of just feel like a number
when you just call somebody and they pass you off
to somebody else and you go here, and sometimes you're like,
I just need to talk to a human being for
like five or so minutes to figure out where I
should go and where.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
You should go.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Tape it into your little Google maps. Is the Fit
and Center this Saturday for the Nami walks. Again, if
you're like, Ooh, I can't do the walk, but I
want more info, Jesse, you said, it's Nami dash BC
dot org and that offers classes resources.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yes, so we do education classes specifically for family members
and for those who are experiencing mental or have mental illnesses.
A lot of that is just education of you know,
what have you been diagnosed with or what do you
think you may have, sure what that looks like, the
providers of the resources available to how you can communicate

(04:32):
and empower yourself with this. For family members, it's a
lot of that resource navigation, building confidence in them. We
also do a lot of community programs, so we'll provide
those classes or presentations to just churches or staff groups
who want them, or anybody who is interested and wants
to know information about this.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Okay, there you go.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Thank you Jess for joining Tiff in the morning's community coin.
We appreciate you listening to the show and joining us.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
M As and Mary IDASHBC dot org.

Speaker 1 (05:10):

daily debrief, the biggest thing that we talked about on
