Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're waking up with in the morning, Happy Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Sober October is almost as.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Big as dry January.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's a different vibe, but I think it all falls
under the same umbrella of being sober curious. And it's
interesting that this is coming up right after the Forbes
thirty Under thirty.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I was sitting in on this and.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
They were talking about how cannabis drinks are almost becoming
more popular with the younger generations than alcohol was for
let's say, us and our parents, et cetera.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
So, Julia, Hi, welcome to the show. Julia Hello.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
She You guys must you must be familiar with homemakers
and OTR right, it's got such a fun vibe. We
were the three words that we described homemakers with. It
was like your grandma's desert basement. Yes, I love it though.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's you came up with a with us.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I'm gonna remember these forever and like, maybe even get
a tattoo. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Remind me what corner Homemakers is on.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
It's on thirteenth and well nut.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Okay, cool, cool, cool, You guys would love if you
haven't been, come on at it to your to do list.
She said, Hey, sober Curious is becoming really popular and
I'm hearing about it in our neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So you've started your own little.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Experience there and I'm not surprised that it's going to
be successful for this month.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Tell me a little bit about it.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, so we have always had non alcoholic or mocktails
on the menu. It's been a huge part of our program.
But yeah, we are so we have some sober bartenders.
I am sober Curious. So we are opening. We have
a bottle shop so you can get grab and go,
Like if you're curious about something, you want to try
some of these cocktails, you want to try some of
(01:43):
these spirits that you know, these na spirits. We're going
to be a hub for you to just come in,
talk to the bartender about them, and grab grab whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
You want and try them.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Okay, And we're growing our list that we have available
for you to just come in and partake. And we
will also we will have a cannabis cocktail.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Oh, before we get to that, I feel so silly.
I forgot to explain what sober Curious is. We got
so everybody knows what it is. Can you just give
us a rundown of what sober curious.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
So sober curious really is just you know, if you
are maybe considering drinking less, and you're you're kind of
toying around with the idea, but you're kind of like
not sure what that means, or like, yeah, if I'm
gonna have fun even being sober.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
It's more so instead of committing hey, I'm never drinking again,
it's almost like more of a it's a less pressure
way of walking away from alcohol as your primary source
of consumption but still allowing yourself to enjoy an october
Fest beer.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
It's there's no right or wrong. It's just, hey, I'm
sober curious.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I'm consuming less than what I normally would exactly, Okay,
so homemakers like you know, Julia had mentioned, has that
one stop shop. They It's actually what was super interesting
to me was that you have sober bartenders.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah what Wow, that's cool. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, And actually I would say a majority, like I
don't know if it's a majority, but there are a
decent number of us who are sober curious. So another
thing that I just want to add on top of that.
It's like, say you're out to dinner and you want
to have a glass of wine, but you and you
want to go out next but you don't want to.
You know, you can still, Yeah, you have your glass
of wine with dinner, you go out, you have your
NA cocktail, and then you don't have to feel like
(03:34):
for me, I I'm yeah, or like hungover and then
next morning, my god, I can't do it.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yea to theme over.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
We have some type a people listening right now, and
that's fine. I'm I'm pretty b But if someone wanted
to start sober October but it's not the first they're like,
damn it, I missed the first four days. I guess
I have to wait until November. You can start being
sober curious today on the fourth. It's okay to not
have the exact amount of dates. Do you have a
tip for someone since you are sober curious?
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, I would say yes, start with a place that
you know is going to have a great cocktail, right,
that's gonna make a great cocktail, and that can make
you one that's non alcoholic. I would say, you know,
maybe try oh my gosh, like all the beers that
are out right now, I mean, and you can almost
find an NA beer anywhere cool. So I was out
(04:24):
at an event I was at like the Woodward Theater, and
I was like, you know, I had my cocktail already,
so I'm going to see what they had.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And they had like a whole list of non alcoholic stuff.
So you're in the industry they don't have non alcoholic wine,
do this? There is there is, because that's a big one.
Like the Galleys love their chardonnay and their Savvian Block.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
I will say that I have been doing my research
and there are a few that I really like, but
I think that category is still pretty young. So like
some you know, don't judge a book by its cover
if you've tasted one of its focks exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Well, outside of just going to homemakers to explore their
and a menu and they're sober curious bartenders, you're having
an event.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
This a day party.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
There is nothing that makes me happier than drinking during
the day, and I love that this is a way
to marry my favorite day drinking activity with being sober curious.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, so at the end of the month, we're gonna
do a sober Curious day party on a Sunday with
a DJ.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Oh, we're going all out.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Oh yeah, we're doing DJ work. I mean it's got
to be a party, right, Okay, Yeah, so we're tentative dates.
We want to make sure we, you know, pay pay
attention to the Bengal schedule. So yeah, you know, we
want to make sure that we're off respect exactly.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Well, Julia, thanks for being a good friend of the show.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
And why don't you if you're listening right now and
your ears are porking up, I would say Instagram is
a good place to keep up to date on the
date of the day, party, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yeah, that's sort of our hub for all our events
and everything that we have all are going on.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Julia is from Homemakers. You'll recognize the bar in Otr. Oh,
you'll recognize the bar n ot R. Coming up at
nine point forty, we're gonna do the daily debrief. I
choose one big thing that we talked about on the
show today. Actually, I'll get Julia's.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Input on it. Have you heard of Ruggate out of Columbus?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
No? Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
A murder mystery irl. We'll get to that next
