(00:00):
Brought to you by Miller Lite. Now here's your host of Vikings Country from
kfa N and the Vikings Radio NetworkMust Tuesday. I'm listening to the music.
She doesn't. Yeah, let itbreathe a little bitter, know your
story. She wears short skirts, ready T shirts. She's captain. Welcome
(00:31):
to Vikings Country. Everybody with MillerLyte kfa N. We're hanging out here.
Duke's on seven and there is nodoubt that our special guess is hanging
out with this. Alexander Madison wasn'tcranking up some t Swift on the way
over here? Right? No?What, I just don't know a lot
(00:52):
of Taylors. You didn't go tothe eras to her the whole thing?
Are you? Are you holding outto go to the movie? No,
they're making it. They're taking itto the big screen. I mean nothing
against Taylor Swift. I just haven'tyou know gotten that lane? So right
right? I mean that, comeon, there's there's gotta be one song
that you go, Oh my gosh, I didn't know this is Taylor Swift
(01:14):
and I was singing too, andsinging along too. No, I definitely
knew that was her when it wason though, right, Yeah, sure,
but I don't know lyrics. That'sthe Yeah, I gotta get that
part down. Yeah. Are youAre you a singer? Do you like
go out to the bars and thenhit the karaoke, grab the mic and
sweet Caroline that some bitch? No, not at all. The only singing
(01:38):
or anything I do is is athome. Yeah yeah, yeah, just
just shower singing. Yeah, someof that I'll hop you know, I'd
make a little music on the side, so hot behind the micy, but
that's that's the most of you'll getout of me. You have a Do
you have a studio at your house? Yeah? Yeah, oh very nice.
And so how many songs have youactually written and produced yourself? There's
(02:01):
a are a lot of my notes, but the ones that are out there
is a nice, nice amount.Maybe twenty five or something like that.
Oh, no kidding. So youhave a catalog? Yeah, yeah,
very cool. Yeah, I gotan album out. Yeah nice. So
now what has been the reflection ofthat that album? Alexander Madison is with
us here in Vikings Country with MillerLight and we're hanging out here at Duke's
(02:23):
on seven and Minnetaka. Yeah, you got twenty five songs and your catalog
so far? How has it beenreceived? I'm so sorry that I haven't
listened to one song. Yeah.I kind of like it that way.
I like to fly into the radar. It's more therapeutic than it is to
be a superstar or anything. Reallyonly got into it because my cousin,
But I mean I think it's it'sbeen received. Well, are you nice
(02:46):
streams? Are you working like thebeach and the whole works? And then
like on Dawson, you're okay,Yeah, so that's above my pay grade.
So you're just doing lyrics? Yeah, I mean I self engineer,
makes a master and stuff, butas far as like making the beats,
I go to someone else for that. Nice What what is what is the
uh like the angst or angle oryou know, as far as your music
(03:09):
goes, what is the message thatyou're trying to sell a big mix of
things. There's you know, thepositive messages of course, and then there's
some that are just fun tracks justto have fun. Me and my cousins
we get in there. We makesome cool summer type music or something something
back home for the SoCal you know, people family or something. But uh
(03:31):
yeah, kind of a mix ofthings. Actually, do we have one
that's titled I Am Gifted? Yes, actually, really really really really staying
on brand on that one. Whatis what is the whole I Am Gifted?
What is that brand for you? It's more than that, It's a
movement. Yeah, yeah, justspreading loving positivity in the world, reminding
(03:52):
everyone that they're born with the giftand they just have to find it,
embrace it, and use the shedlight in the world. You know,
we do a lot of a lotof stuff, a lot of given back.
You know, we just try andprovide dream chasing opportunities while emphasizing mental
health and just continuing to just combatthat with you know, bringing awareness to
like suicide prevention and bringing awareness tomental health. That's very cool, man,
(04:14):
I appreciate that you do that. That's awesome. Alexander Madison is my
guest here in Vikings Country at firstone of the season, and it is
a swelter out here. Oh man. We we did not get under a
fan unfortunately, so we're just gonnasit here and just sweat it out.
You've got long sleeves for crying outloud. Uh. Fifth season for the
Minnesota Vikings which congratulations, thank you, thank you, and number two goes
(04:40):
to RB one. Yeah, nowthat how much how much of a transition
has that been for you? I'llhave multiple level questions on this, but
I mean originally when you've found outI'm hit, what was that like?
Man, it's pretty crazy to thinkabout had that conversation, just like talking
(05:00):
to my brother, Like, outof thirty two teams, there's only thirty
two people that could be in thatposition. And I was a six year
old kid from you know, thestreets of Samtordino, dreaming of being in
a position one day. So itis pretty crazy. It's a blessing to
be in this position. Definitely. Was also just kind of one of those
moments you know that you just gotto soak in because I actually I signed
(05:27):
knowing what the situation was going tobe, but not really knowing exactly how
it was going to play out.So the day after I signed, getting
that call from Dalvin and talking withhim and him just you know, handing
me the keys, it's a prettyspecial moment. Yeah, that's great,
that's awesome. And in the fiveyears that you've been playing here with the
Minnesota Vikings, there's been a lotof changes. Yeah, I mean not
(05:50):
only with the coaches, and Koccomes in, Brian Flores comes in,
of course, Bar Kendricks, FeelingDelvin. I mean, so many guys
that when you got here, Uh, Kyle Rudolph, who just announced that
he's going to retire. Uh.There's been a lot of changes there.
And I know that that's part ofthe NFL, but I mean there's an
(06:12):
emotional part of that as well, just because you create those friendships. Yeah,
definitely. It's you know, oneof those things you wish that you
can play your whole career together, but the business of it doesn't let that
happen usually, And so you know, there's guys like the Eland who took
me under his wing. You know, there's guys like e k who was
my locker buddy, you know,my rookie year and just you know,
(06:35):
showed me the ropes. And thenRudy one of those guys as well,
kind of took me on his wingand just showed me how to be professional.
It's just it's a blessing to playwith guys like that, and it
just sucks when they have to youknow, the business side of it comes
in, right, Yeah, absolutely, Josh Oliver comes in. Now that
guy is an absolute beast, JoshOliver, and see J running the ball
(07:00):
feels a little better, doesn't it? It does? It does? It
does. As soon as I sawCJ get his extension, I was I
knew what time it was. Assoon as we signed Josh, I immediately
knew that, you know, therewas investment in the run game and that
degree and getting back together over OTAsthrough training camp. It just feels,
(07:21):
it feels really good. I'm notasking about scheme and stuff like that,
and we're gonna talk about stupid stuffbecause that s what we talked about it.
But you know, we don't talkto football that much. But you
know, first week into this, but not asking about scheme and what you
guys are playing and stuff like that. But what are the meetings like now
for you from last year where youknow you're not RB one and now this
(07:45):
year you are, and how muchthat has changed as they are designing the
run around you. That's a greatquestion. I never really looked at it
from that perspective to see what, you know, I guess what they're doing
in terms of looking at you know, me as a runner in the scheme
in that sense, but definitely isdifferent just knowing that I'm first up,
(08:09):
you know, I'm I'm the onethat has to get the ball rolling,
I'm the one that has to goin and lead by example in that way.
Just you know it, it mademe step my game up in different
ways and just you know, thedetails of things, just really looking at
the details in a different view andattacking him. What's it like now that
(08:30):
you're kind of I don't take thisthe wrong way, but I am at
K one O two the old guy. What's it like to be kind of
one of the older guys. It'sinteresting because I'm still the second youngest in
the room. It's weird. So, you know, Deebo dwy McBride glad
that we to have him back inthe room. He's the youngest now,
(08:52):
but if we didn't sign him back, I would be the youngest running back
in the room still, And it'sweird having to be in that role and
you know, just trying to likecoach up the guys and try and like
be that type of guy in theroom for guys that are older than you.
So it is a weird perspective,But I mean there's so much respect
(09:13):
between all of us that you know, different coaching points that we have for
each other. We embrace it,we accepted and we just try and live
up to a standard in that room. So you get a new contract,
which is amazing. Was there?I mean, what is that conversation?
Like when you're calling back home.Your mom is Pearl, right, yeah,
which is one of the great Pearlmust make the best food ever,
(09:35):
because there's no way a woman namedPearl doesn't make great food. She does
make good food. But what thatthat that had been really cool when you
got a chance to talk to yourfamily about all right, so they're they're
investing in me and here we go. Yeah. Yeah, honestly, it
was a very stressful time. Itwas so I just tried to breathe.
(09:58):
I tried to take a breath andjust get away from talking to anyone really,
but they were extremely excited when thenews broke. It was weird.
It was sad that I didn't getto break the news before. Like I
got off the phone and it's everywhere, and so like then I got my
dad and my mom they're calling methere. I'm like, well, this
(10:18):
just made it a lot more streusslethan I wanted it to be, but
they're just extremely excited and trying tofind out if it was if it was
true or not. But yeah, they're they're definitely glad. I'm back in
purple. So with the more money, and you know, people love to
talk about the money, and Iknow that that's uncomfortable, so I'm not
gonna bring up any of the dollaramount or anything like that. But with
the more money, does that meanthat we're going to see more of the
(10:39):
dog humping uh touchdown celebrations. No, that means I'm gonna try and save
all but as much as I can, the celebrations are gonna be avoiding any
pumps, right right, right? But what did you get find for that?
And what is that like when ohmy and you I got it back
(11:00):
though? Oh yeah, we wewe went through the appeal process and the
NFL used it too much and gottoo much fan engagement, and so there
would reverse it and give me mymoney back. Oh nice, sweet?
Yeah they shouldn't. I don't knowwho. Someone probably got fired because whoever
made the side by side and decidedto post it on the NFL's accounts,
(11:22):
they you know, they helped meout a lot. Wow, that's great.
You got paid for humping. That'sawesome. That's amazing. I love
that all about you. Uh sogrowing up in California here, and you
were born in nineteen ninety eight, right, yeah, nineteen ninety eight.
That was the same year that themovie Titanic came out. Have you watched
(11:43):
Titanic? Yes? I have.Do you believe that there was room for
Jack on the door? I meanI would say so, but you know,
they gotta make a dramatic What movieslike when you were growing up in
high school, and you know, you're playing so many sports you track as
well, right, yeah, andso you're playing the sports. What movies
(12:03):
like really inspired you? I endedup going through a rocky phase just this
weekend that was insane. But okay, so what what movies or music didn't
really got you? I would sayFriday Night Lights, Oh yeah, great
Iron Gang, Okay, The blindSide, oh great movie. Those those
(12:26):
were my movies. I still haveall of those hard copy right everywhere I
go. I mean I took themwith me to college. Every time I
move, I pack them up withme. When you say hard copy DVD
DVD, yeah, where the hellare you playing that? Pop up an
xbox. Are you a gamer?Uh? Here and there? Yeah,
yeah, not too much. Igot a daughter now, so you know
(12:48):
that. Yeah that chumps everything.Oh man, you are a girl,
dad. Yes, how is thatgoing? That's awesome? Yeah yeah,
yeah, yeah, it's crazy time, it's flying. Yeah, yeah,
you're gonna get real stressed still,so well, I mean I try,
I try to look at it froma perspective that doesn't allow me to be
as stressed as I should be.So you had a major in communication when
(13:11):
you're at Boise State, right, yeah? And uh, how much have
you felt that you've learned not onlyjust on this show already, you know,
from you know, a guy who'sbeen in the business from and then
also being on with the Power Trip. I mean you probably have learned a
lot in terms of just a broadcastingcommunity. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
(13:33):
no, definitely. I mean,I mean I'm taking notes from you,
okay, I think, you know, post career, just based on
the many times that we've been ableto sit here together. Absolutely, I
think I got a shot just youknow, but yeah, you realize how
I'm not very good at this.I'm saying you taking notes from you.
I got a shot. That's whatwhat is your running mentality? I mean
(13:58):
you run heavy, yeah, anduh and between the tackles is really where
you love living as far as butlike you're not shy of running people down.
Yeah. I watched a play lastfrom last year. You're we're taking
on the Cardinals, and you hada chance that you could have stepped out
(14:18):
of bounce, yeah, and insteadyou just thrilled the poor cornerback. Yeah.
I think it was b Murf too. Yeah. Oh yeah, I
think it was Iron Murphy. Yes, I think it was. I mean
I just got a downhill, fastand physical mentality. I think violent knee
drive and pose your will. It'sjust like notes that I have constantly playing
(14:45):
in my head throughout a game, throughout practice, just you know, one
of those things that you know ifyou don't do it, then they will.
So they're trying to kill me.I gotta try and kill first absolutely
well. And then coming up yougotta a pretty good challenge against the Bucks.
He gets up front, Oh man, they got they got. Yeah,
(15:07):
there's some respect for that defense overthere. There's some heavies up the
middle. I'm excited for that matchup. Yeah, I'm excited. And then
you got your you know your guys. I mean, now, when you
get a good contract, do youhave to buy Derra saw something Cleveland and
Bradberry and Ingram and Brian O'Neill, like, is this this Christmas will be
(15:28):
expensive? We'll see. I'm I'mtrying to get it going now. I
got some shirts and hoodies being maderight now for the whole old line room
and hopefully that goes a long wayand Christmas time, will will you know
the pockets? Will you know, just kind of even out a little bit?
Oh yeah, sure, take itdown some say, you guys remember
the shirts and stuff? Right,So I give him some hard copies of
(15:50):
the blind Side. And then also, you know, some of your music
and be like calling today here yougo a couple of candy canes or something.
You know, Here's here's my catalogof twenty five songs. You are
welcome, Merry Christmas bells in thebackground or something. Alexander Madison is my
guest. We're hanging out here inMinnetonka. We're at Duke's on seven with
(16:14):

We got more coming up on theway with Alexander Madison. We'll get into
that coming up next here on thefan. It's Funkings Country, brought to
you by Miller Lite. Now here'syour host of Vikings Country from kfa N
and the Vikings Radio Network must searchsugar. So some people all right,
(16:56):
Brett, We're good, Little JimmyBuffett here in Vikings Country, Margaritaville.
We're hanging out here with Miller Light. So many big Vikings fans that we

you're coming out to Vikings Country aswell for a Minnesota Vikings to see them
(17:40):
at us Bank Stadium. Alexander Madisonis my guest. Jimmy Buffett. We
we've lost a couple of really bigbig stars as far as Bob Barker,
who is of course what the priceis right? Were your prices right?
Viewer at all? No? No, Bob Barker pays at ninety nine.
(18:00):
Did you like him in Happy Gilmorewhen you got in a fight with Happy
Gilmore? Please tell me you've seenthat. I've seen it, but I
don't. I can't play the scenethat you're talking about without like, read
the price is wrong, bitch.Yeah. Yeah. So unfortunately he passes
away at ninety nine, and thenuh, Jimmy Buffett passed away at the
(18:21):
age of seventy six. Here andI mean margat reata Ville. There's no
way you haven't heard that song. Please, I might have. I mean
I know that this songs from nineteenseventy seven, but it's played everywhere.
I mean, I'm sure I have. I have. I just couldn't tell
you that the Alex come on,Yeah, that's a little what year did
(18:45):
you say? It was nineteen seventyseven when it came out, But it's
been huge. There's restaurants, there'sthere's gear. You know, I was
I was like usher Mary J.Blase you yeah, yeah, yeah,
I know those ones, you know, early two thousands, those those hits,
but the you know, seventy seven, I don't know. Wow,
(19:07):
that's a classic. Nonetheless, allright, we'll let you go on that
way, all right. So gettingdrafted by the Vikings third round, right,
yes, uh, that experience,And that's also one of those like
when we're talking about, you know, getting the contract, I mean,
when you find out that you youget drafted, talking to your your parents
about that, your family about that. How much has it changed for your
(19:30):
entire family, the fact that you'reon this high level with the NFL,
oh night and day. You know, just like I said, growing up
in Samardino, you know, therewas zero to one percent chance that I,
you know, make it to theNFL. So it was just extreme
(19:51):
blessing for me to just get thatcall and just I don't mean the opportunity
itself was all I wanted, butto be drafted in third round was amazing.
You had your the they surprise youwith your high school head coach.
Yeah there. I watched that onthe VA and Vikings Entertainment Network where all
of a sudden, your coach isstanding right and you you guys stay in
touch your high school football coach stilldo this day. Yeah, Yeah,
(20:15):
I mean he's a big mentor tome and he helps out a lout with
my foundation. You know, allthe camps that we do, he's he's
a coach at every camp, youknow, just helping me out. Give
him back, you know. Nowwe're able to do it together. So
it's awesome. That's awesome. Allright, here we go. Uh,
first, before we get into thefive typically stupid Vikings country questions, Uh,
(20:37):
your tats? How many tats?First? Do you have a lot.
That's funny because I was one ofthose guys. I was like,
I'm never getting a tattoo. Tattoosare stupid. And then uh, maybe
going into my sophomore year. Yeah, me, my brothers and my two
cousins, well we got ours firstbecause my cousin he wasn't old enough to
(21:00):
get his yet. But we callourselves MB five kind of like a Jackson
five type of deal. Sure,we just grew up like that, you
know, tight knit family. Andso we all got MB five in some
way tatted. And you know,I'm lifting a lot of weights in college
and I just you know, justa small MB five on my chest.
As my chest is pumping up,it was like, I don't like this.
(21:22):
I want to fill it out more. And I fill it out,
and it's like, all right, now I gotta fill out the other side,
and then you know, work myway down the sides and then end
up getting a sleeve and then Iend up getting the leg sleeve and so
yeah, it's it's addictive, yeahonce you start. Yeah, but it's
awesome. You know. I drawup all my tattoos and you really Yeah,
so you do your own artwork?Yeah yeah, no, kid,
(21:45):
draw him up and put him togetherand tell the the artists to bring him
to life. What is it thatyou can't do? Okay, you're making
your own music. You're an artist, you are gifted. I'm not very
good at golf. Oh really?Would you like to be good at golf?
Not? Really? They have thedesire. What is the hobby then
(22:06):
that you have outside of the music? Recovery? Okay yeah, family time
or recovery. Yeah, that's aboutit. Okay, So first and foremotion,
let's go here the five typically stupidVikings country questions I got for you.
Uh, we've already talked a littlebit about this. But the you
rap and you create your own music, h what do you lean on for
(22:30):
that? As far as they mean, what is the who is the inspiration
for your your music, that's agreat question. The reason I got into
it was my my little cousin Camhe is he just turned twenty one this
year and he's up and coming. He's trying to live the dream of actually
(22:51):
chasing to be UH an artist, and he kind of just got me into
it. And when I hopped ona couple of his songs, it was
like, Oh, this is kindof fun. And then when COVID hit,
I just hit up a family friendwho had a home studio themselves and
was like, what do you needto have a home studio? Game of
(23:11):
the list, bought all the stuff, taught myself how to engineer and mix
a master, and I found itto be like therapy. So really like
whenever I hop into booth, it'slike a moment. I just feel like
it's therapeutic. So sometimes it'll besomething that's been heavy on my heart it's
kind of deep, or sometimes it'sjust a little playful because I might have
heard a song on the way homeand it inspired me to get in there
(23:33):
and just make up some stuff. So it just depends on the day.
Have you heard of hot bedding? This is the next question I have for
you. Yeah, it's a newtrend and apparently it's it's taking yeah,
the nation by a storm. It'sbasically, instead of just renting out a
room like an Airbnb or v rbo or whatever, no, you just
(23:56):
rent out the other side of yourbed hot bedding. Are you willing too
to hot bed This is real?Yeah, it's a real thing. Yeah,
how is that possible? I wasthat like a thing? Who made
this a think? That's not onlyfans? Probably, I bet? Yeah,
Now that's I'm not a fan ofthat. That's uh woa definitely makes
(24:21):
sure that I petitioned or something.Okay, Number three mini schools across the
country are now open. Kids areback at school. So do you remember
going back to school? What wasthe like, the best thing about going
back to school when you were akid seeing all my friends. Yeah,
you know, the friends you didn'tget to see all summer. Uh,
(24:44):
that was probably the best part aboutit. You know. I wasn't excited
to go back to school, youknow, I wasn't excited to be in
class and do all that. Butit was exciting to get back with the
guys. All Right, I'm gonnaask you, I was gonna go to
four. I'm gonna skip that onebecause it's all about Lake Peppin and uh
there's a locknest monster in Lake Peppinnamed Peppi. Yeah, we'll get to
(25:06):
that later. Uh. Brian Floresand that defense and what you've actually seen
yourself and how we've we've all heardthe pressers where Koc's talking about. Man,
is this difficult to play against?Yeah, yeah, it's not fun.
It's definitely gonna make us better, but it is crazy and it is
(25:30):
intimidating. So I'm excited for thatfor us. But training Camp OTAs it
was definitely just like what is happening? But also the offense is the wrinkles
as well. Oh yeah yeah, but they have wrinkles back. We we
adjust and he adjusted, and it'slike he'll tell he'll walk around the building
(25:52):
like be ready today, and thenand then you you you know, we
go out to practice, they dosomething, Oh, we got the check
to this, and then right beforeyou snap it, they do something else
and then they let you up andhe's like, yeah, I told you
something was coming. I'm like,oh my god, Alexander. Medicine ladies
and gentlemen here in Vikings Country andyou're catching it right here on KFKA,
(26:15):
and we like the gull and thefan
