Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the WBZ book Club. This is Jordan Ridge.
For those who live in cities, and that's many of us.
Here's a new book called Key to the City, How
Zoning Shapes Our World by Sarah Bronan. She's chair of
the Hartford, Connecticut Planning and Zoning Commission and knows a
thing or two about zoning and of course the importance
of regulations, but regulations that allow for flexibility. She offers
(00:20):
up many examples of how proper zoning brings life back
to city areas that need it, such as the Remington
neighborhood in Baltimore, Galveston, Texas, in which zoning preserved the
history of the town. And yes, she takes a look
at Boston and the success of nurtured urban farming in
our city. As you know, zoning can be problematic, as
she says quote, too often intruding and imposing on deeply
(00:41):
personal choices. She recommends sensible reforms, ones that build community
in an ethical and intentional way. The author, Sarah Bronan,
successfully addresses the need for zoning to take into account
the people, because ultimately they're the ones affected. Key to
the City, How Zoning Shapes Our World the book Club.
