March is women's history monk. Sowe're celebrating and encouraging the vital role of
women in American history. Hi Sheila, Hi Sheila, my girl, Sheila.
How's it going. It's man,I'm going, it's Everything's good.
(00:23):
I'm so excited. I can't eventalk. I don't know. Everything's great.
First of all, here on weare the World Day. I love
the documentary and I love everything thatyou brought to it. What a special
thing to be on that documentary andhave all those great memories. Yeah,
it was pretty amazing. I youknow you at the time, at the
(00:46):
moment all that happened, you know, I was so much was going on.
I was out on tour. Ihad been up for three days,
and then to actually play one ofthe biggest shows ever, the American Music
Awards. That was my first timeas a solo artist is performing and it
was a big deal. Talking todig Clark because I needed to have them
turn off the lights because my stickswere gonna glow, and they were like,
(01:08):
we can't turn the lights off onnational television. Are you crazy?
Bout the time we got them todo it, but it was after the
lights came on because blah blah blahthe sticks and you know, the glow
sticks everyone talked about. And thenyou know, right after and line on
Brenda, they're like, okay, well you're going to the thing after Yes,
okay, fine. You walk inthe room and everyone's there, and
(01:30):
you're like, wow, this isamazing. I knew a lot of the
people when you're there all night, and then I leave at four in the
morning. At six am, I'mback on the bus out on tour,
just passed out, exhausted. Whenyou go, I go, now,
look at this documentary. I hadnever seen it, of course, and
then we go to the premiere, and when I had done the interview,
(01:52):
it was probably six to eight monthsbefore they released the premiere, so I
forgot about it and I didn't knowit was going to be on Netflix.
So I watching this thing, Iwas like, wow, this is amazing.
It just you step back and goI was a part of this night
that made history. But even moreso, what that night had done to
(02:12):
raise all the money that we wereable to and it continues to raise money
all of these years, and it'sthe first entity that has never it's the
first entity at this you know, this caliber of raising this much money that
is self sufficient, like they didthat one show and that was it.
And the money continues to come inthrough sponsorship or through people giving money constantly
(02:38):
throughout the year. Yeah, it'sso many I've watched it twice. It's
so good. I feel like youstill live that that heptic always on the
road life. And now you've gotyour new song, Ben Baclora congratulations coming
on in International Women's Day with GloriaStefan tell us about that. I'm so
excited. It's my first ever salsarecord. I've always wanted to do it,
(03:02):
and I just, you know,it seems like it was the right
time to do it. But youknow, this is two years in the
making actually getting this done, andtwo years prior to that talking about it.
So I'm very excited that it's hereand it's now. I wanted to
pay homage to three people that werevery influential in my life growing up listening
(03:24):
to salta music, and that wasCelia Cruz, which is the single coming
out tomorrow featuring Gloria Stefan and MimiSukar I did a tribute to Tito Puente.
Huberto Santaosa sang that song. Titowas very influential, and then Chelle
(03:45):
Feliciano. It was a song calledAnacona and I had Reuben Blade sing that
song. So there's a lot ofamazing people on this project and this single
that comes out tomorrow. It wasone of the song that I love so
much. And you know, CeliaCruz. I was able to meet her
when I was younger through Tito Puenteand then to be able to work with
(04:09):
her and perform with her, who'sjust a powerhouse woman, amazing, strong,
graceful, and what she had gonethrough to just be able to come
to this country to perform and giveus this music, it was amazing.
So I wanted to do this songspecifically, Benba Coloda is a classic Celia
(04:30):
Cruz song and just really excited thatnone other than there was only one person
to call, and that was Gloriato be able to sing this song for
sure, Oh my gosh. Andyou are such a powerhouse woman yourself.
You're such an inspiration. I lovewe're Instagram friends. I love to watch
your life and I'll never forget you. At the Forum with Prince. I
brought my son because I wanted tosee I wanted him to see Prince live.
(04:56):
I wanted him to see Sheila E. And there you were, come
up out of those stage you know, from from below. You were lifted
up onto the stage with the lightingand the hair and the drumming, and
I just I love Prince, butI was just blown away by you.
Oh, thank you, thank you. Well, there's nothing you can't do
(05:19):
it well congratulations. Yeah, sorry, I'm sorry, go ahead, Yeah,
yeah, I know. I wasjust saying, there's nothing you can't
do Sheila. Oh yeah, thisis this record was very challenging, so
I you know, I love challengingmyself and this is a good one.
(05:39):

performing live at the fillmore Miami BeachLive. You can go to Live Nation
to get tickets. But in MiamiApril third, we're performing this entire album
live because the album drops on Aprilfifth. So this is a glorious Stefan's
(06:00):
gonna be there, my Dad's gonnaplay Mimi. There's so many artists that
are gonna be there performing with me, and uh, this is just gonna
be amazing. I'm so excited andI'm nervous about it, and that's a
good feeling to be excited and nervousabout something that you've worked so hard.
