Speaker 1 (00:11):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Are you ready for a break? Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Are you ready for a break?

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Absolutely ready for a break?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, and so much for that.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
It's time for the Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com
with Ambar Garcia, Brian brought us, Votch Lombardi and Derek Eagleton.

Speaker 5 (00:47):
It is Tuesday, November twenty fifth, twenty twenty five, Season
twenty one, episode number eighty four. Welcome to the latest
edition Off the Break, a live from SWBC Mortgage Studios
at the Star represented by lglg's the world's number one
ol TV brand for eleven years inccountings. Why n OLG
dot Com, Fort slash O, led Evo Ambergarcia is not
with us today. She has other responsibilities. So we got Brian,

(01:08):
we got vatched, we got vatches, sunshades, we got votches chain.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It's a brand, is it? You see my logo I have?

Speaker 5 (01:16):
It is not most people. Most people don't have logos.
So that tells y'all you need to know. When a
person has their own logo, that tells y'all you need
to know about said person.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Copied Michael Jordan's.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Benning the Butcher.

Speaker 6 (01:26):
Benning the Butcher said last year was about brand and
this year is about expanding. You feel what I'm saying
someone dot com y'all may not let me wear certain
things or whatever. I'm a fine way to sneak the
brand in somehow. It's all it's it's it's mine. It's chest,
not checkers, man.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
And what you know is what you can prove in
court shirt in facts.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
All right, we got a lot to talk about today.

Speaker 7 (01:45):
He deal with this every day. Sometimes it is what
it is. We got a lot of today. We're gonna
start first with some injury updates. Man, the injury report
looks like a mass unit. Not to be unexpected because
you have such a short week, really don't have time
to recover. You only have time to basically just move
on to the next game and just try to get
your body.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
To some semblance of normalcy to try to get this
game in. But Cowboys have four players that show up
on the injury report that did not practice yesterday.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Let's go through them.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Tyler Guidon with an ankle injury, also Odiggi Zuwell with
an elbow, George Pickens with a knee and a calf issue.
And then you got Cavante Turpin who has a shoulder
and was out with an illness.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
What do we know about each of the four.

Speaker 8 (02:25):
I think the one that has the least amount of
chance of playing will be guiding with the ankle. I
think that's the one that's going to be the one.
I think the other ones are more wearing tears of
things that happened during the game, But that just the
initial Talking to people about it, they said that they
felt like that that was Any time you're dealing with

(02:47):
an ankle, you know, in a short week, it's it's
pretty pretty difficult to deal with. So I have a
feeling you'll be seeing Nate Thomas at left tackle against
the Chiefs on Thursday.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
What do you see from natemises last week? Because he
had a chance to come in that game and then
play it. I think I want to say, you play,
had sixteen snaps or something like that.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
What did you see from him?

Speaker 6 (03:07):
Hey, I think Nate Thomas played strong. I think he
takes advantage of his size. I think the Cowboys had
a really good plan as far as helping tackles goes,
and I think that helped us a bunch. Where that
could get a little weird is that every offensive lineman
is different with how they want help. You know, some
some offensive linemen may want chips to the you know,
chips to the outside because they can move a little better.
Guidon moves much better than Nate. Nate's more powerful, so

(03:30):
maybe in practice there may have to be an adjustment. Hey,
if we're gonna chip chip the defenders outside shoulder to
funnel him into Nate because he's probably more powerful that way.
But you know, run game, I think, you know you're
gonna get movement and power and all those things. But passing,
you know, past setting, moving backwards and things, I think
it's gonna be. You know, we have to keep eyes on.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
That for sure.

Speaker 8 (03:49):
Yeah, you know, watch and I were doing some work
this morning breaking down some tape, and you talk about backs.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And their ability.

Speaker 8 (03:54):
With Williams and the way he's able to He's become
such a complete back, you know, and when you at
North Carolina there was a lot of that you could
see in that.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
But you watch.

Speaker 8 (04:04):
Him, he has a feel where he needs to be
in blitz pick up or if he has to help.
You always worry about running backs getting in the way
of the blocker. You know, all of a sudden, you
go up into the line and now you have a
collisioner and you you throw the tackle off who he's
supposed to supposed to block, and so you know that

(04:26):
could be a problem. But Williams has a really really
good feel as far as the Nate Thomas stuff goes.
So I felt like when he was at the Arizona game,
he was thrown into that situation and like had a
bunch of pressures and it was he didn't handle that
all well. But this time around only gave up the
one pressure. In his past block and reps, and I think,

(04:46):
you know, against the Eagles he would take that.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
All day of Note he was on the right side
in that game out yeahs Arizona. This time he's on
the left side. It seems like we've at least from
my purview when I've watched him, it looks like on
the left side he tends to be better than the right. Now,
we have a very limited sample size, so we really
can't say that as a definitive thing, But so far
I have a lot less concerns when he's coming in
to spell guiding than I do sometimes at the time

(05:09):
we saw him come in to spell steal.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I think matos matter, I think shows matter.

Speaker 6 (05:14):
You know, some some guys probably are going to give
him some more issues, Like for example, were talking about
the Chiefs coming up soon or whatever. Like Carl Loftis
is a power kind of guy. He may be fine
over there, but like these Bendi type dudes may give
they a.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Little more troubles. It's probably match defended.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
The Chiefs do have two guys in their injury report.
Tray Smith the guard, has an ankle tight end. Noah
Gray also has a concussion.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Talk to me.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
About how those guys fit into what they like to
do and how much of a loss it would be
if they can't have those players this week.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
They'll be fine without Gray.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
But Trey Smith is massive like that, Like he's one
of the best guards in the league, if not one
or two powerful dude anchors great and all this kind
of stuff, And he makes Creed really comfortable and he
makes you know, all the you know, like whatever tackles
playing with because Trey's moved all over the place, but
he makes guys around him comfortable. So with him being out,
those guys may take a bump down. The Chiefs, in

(06:06):
my opinion, already kind of have issues run block and
they passed black really well, but they've been having.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Issues run blocking.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
But that kind of leans into what we like to do,
which is be powerful of the middle and whoop ass
on on guard.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
So what's my man's the new guy.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Brian Mike Klaani.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, buddy. That sounded like a Mafia movie
or something like that. But he he he, he has
a long day ahead of him. You know, if you
have a Cowboys D line that can deal with guys
like Landon Diggerson, Tyler Stein or Cam Jurgen's, then this
group is kind of like powerful guys similar in that
kind of way. Uh So, if what the name is
Mike Calliandi, if Kellyendi Kalado, if Caliendo ain't ain't ain't

(06:42):
coming to party is it can't be a lone day
of the middle.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
And that's kind of how you want to whoop up
on patting them.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
So rise the official pronunciation.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Guy.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I can't I can't say his name.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I can't say Mike Caliendo, like the like the comedian
that's same guy.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I know the last name. I just Klie and Tho.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Is how I'd say, Mike Kellyan got to take us low.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
I can't get it out like I want to.

Speaker 8 (07:05):
Kellian, though, it's amazing that that Tray Smith that was
a sixth round pick.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Wow.

Speaker 8 (07:10):
Yeah, it's got a six round pick out of tennis. Yeah,
and the twenty twenty one draft and he was he's
an outstanding player. That's a big, big loss first.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
Round pick on my board, thought, yeah, and YouTube.

Speaker 8 (07:23):
Right, but yeah, Mike kellyendo like he'll he'll. I'm sure
we'll get into all this with the with the Kansas
City offense here soon enough. But it is a big,
big step back, a big step back right there. And Dallas,
what's the strength of the Cowboys? It's been with those
defensive tackles and the way they've kind of taken advantage
of guys that aren't really up to snuff at times

(07:43):
and maybe some pretty good ones as well. So, uh,
this should be a favorable matchup for them.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Inside all right, real quick, I did want to get
to a topic that we didn't hit yesterday. I want
to talk a little bit about the secondary.

Speaker 9 (07:55):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
We saw Kaylen Carson back out again this week. We
saw us of oone Revel out. This week's Revel actually
played quite a bit. Uh in this game. There was
the big forty one yard completion to Devonte Smith being
guarded by Kayln Carson, But in my opinion, that was
pretty good coverage.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
It was just a great play by the receiver.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Talk to me about your just your assessment of how
you thought the corners played. Talking about Carson, Bland, Revel Stewart,
who are the primary guys that were out there most
of the time.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
You know, you didn't see a whole bunch of plays
on the ball, but they played as good as you
can ask those guys to play. Brown and Smith Like,
there's gonna be some some big plays early, but they'll
eventually settle down as the pass rush kind of helps,
you know, they'll kind of settle in. I think they
did exactly what you can ask them to do. I
think I think Bland played played a really good game.
He really got you know, got back from that, you know,

(08:42):
from that Marvin Harrison game that really kind of wore
him out a little bit. But Bland played well. But
as far as the young guys go, I think they
were just they were in phase and.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
You know, Jalen Hurts ain't good man. So Jalen Hur's
be missing people to jail.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Yeah, I wasn't wrong. And this is a good thing
about the internet though. They can call you a hater
all you want, but when it go out there, it happened,
and millions and wings of people watching on TV. I go, hey, man,
we don't do we don't do master nationally.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
We do arithmetic.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
But but you know, when pressure gets there, his eyes
drop and he runs around. Saquan has some catches because
he's dump down guy. But as far as finding them
guys downfield, I think your corners did a did a
did a decent job of being around. Let me just
state this because this is really important. Jerry maddalen toom
me lean when I say something important. We've been dealing
with DB's that leave wide receivers whide the ass open,
like far, like five ten yards open. It's not a

(09:36):
whole bunch of what happened finger pointing at the end
of plays. It's like, just like you said, Kayln Carson
was there. He's in great coverage versus one of the
best receivers in the league, and he's fighting the.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Ball to the ground. I could take that. I could
take that.

Speaker 6 (09:49):
I can't take Kayln Carson looking around twenty yards away
and we all looking at Devonte Smith at the same time.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
So I think that him clapping like damn, I think
that's major improvement there.

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Yeah, yeah, I tell you again, Mutch and I had
a chance this morning looking at film that one of
the things we pointed out was and he brought to
the game was the third and two. This gives you
a really good example how they played coverage third and two.
We've seen the Cowboys in third and two play seven
yards off and wonder why they get a first down
every single time. And you can watch the third and

(10:19):
two breakdown and you could see dron Bland get all
up in the face of Brown and not allow him
to get to the inside. And you see coverage. You
see guys, you know playing, even Bridges is out there,
he's having to play for Carson. I mean, there are
guys out there that were battling hard in that game
against quality receivers, quality tight ends, you know. And so

(10:41):
I think, to me, when you watch how these young
guys are gonna play, they're only gonna get better, in
my opinion, you know, they just got to keep fighting
and it's not gonna get any easier. You know, we'll
see what happens with with Worthy and Rice this week.
With with Kansas City, you got a quarterback that runs
around and extends plays. You gotta stay on your guys.
It's gonna be one of those tough matchups.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
And then the.

Speaker 8 (11:03):
Following week you gotta deal with the Detroit Lions. It
just doesn't get it eager. And then you got Jefferson
down the road in Minnesota. These young guys are, they're
learning a lot right now, y'all to just hang with him,
give him the opportunity. I think what Vox says is
very important is we're not seeing these massive just breakdowns
of the scheme or the assignments that we saw, say

(11:23):
in the first eight nine weeks of the season.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
Man, Brian bron Is, Derek Eagles, let me ask you
all this, and y'all in the comments in the chat,
y'all can answer this as well.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I asked you last week.

Speaker 6 (11:33):
Brand I say, over these next few games, depending on
how Carson and Revel plays, what happens when Diggs comes back. Yeah,
you know what I'm saying. I just kind of want
y'all want y'alls temptat on it. It probably won't be this week.
I think he's available this week brand, but he's not coming.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Back this week week because of the short week.

Speaker 6 (11:49):
But it's looking at Lions game right right where y'all
kind of at with how you would roll these cornerbacks
out like moving forward in the Lions game when Diggs
come back, bring them on.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
I want Diggs back.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
I think teams better with Digs, And primarily because I
was having this conversation with Nick Eatman, I think one
of the things that I like about Digs and Bland
from that standpoint is they're guys that if they have
a reliable pass rush, they'll get you turnovers because they
will start biting routes.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
They will start.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Playing the gambling game a little bit. And I think
one of the things that I think can really take
this team to the next level defensively is if they
can start getting those turnovers, particularly interceptions, because we also
know those two guys they get their hands on the ball,
there's a good chance they can they can give you six.
And so I actually want a little more of that
aggressiveness and you guys can correct me if I'm wrong.

(12:40):
I think I remembered watching on the Draft show, you
were talking about Rebel and saying the one part of
his game that isn't necessarily like great was he is
a guy that necessarily gets a lot of interceptions. He
might knock the ball down. Yeah, he's not great at
necessarily getting turnovers. And that doesn't mean I'm not excited
for the future with Rebel. What it means is, I
think right now, as this team is currently constituted, I

(13:04):
think having somebody like Digs out there who will take
some of those chances, who could get some of those interceptions,
and if you got him on the opposite side of Bland,
I think now you can take advantage of this different
type of pass rush that you have that's really more
of an internal pass rush that can sometimes just get
in the quarterbacks way to where now hits an err
and throw, he gets the ball off, but the throw.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Isn't on target like it should be.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
It's not on on on schedule like it should be,
and that's what creates those opportunities. So I want to
get Digs back. I think he could add something to
this team right now.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
So when he comes back, let's say we line up
in Nickel Right in our Nickel package is when Diggs
comes back, who gets less work?

Speaker 4 (13:42):
For me? Carson probably gets less.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
I want to keep giving Revel more work because I
want to keep easing him along because going into next year,
I need Revel to be one of my starters. So
I want to see if what I can get out
of him this year. So for me, it's it's Bland,
it's rebel, and it's and it's Digs. When Digs is.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
Back, Yeah, you saw, you know, a pretty good example.
You got, you too, a couple of corners. You get
Digs and Rovell out there playing. You got two really
long corners playing, and you know, and you saw what
you know with with Philadelphia though the other day with Mitchell,
the way he plays, those those corners that have some
link to him are able to kind of knock those
those passes away and defend him. I think that to me,

(14:20):
if Digs is healthy.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
He will help, he will help.

Speaker 8 (14:24):
And people say, well, what about attitude, what about this
and that?

Speaker 3 (14:28):
You guys don't know, and I don't know.

Speaker 8 (14:30):
I just know one thing though, When he is a
healthy football player, he can play at a very very
high level and I've seen it with my own eyes.
But when he's not healthy, when he's struggling and things
are not going well, it could be a big problem
for him.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
He just needs to be completely healthy.

Speaker 8 (14:44):
And I think if they're going to put him out there,
and I think he'll be ready to go, I think
this last you know, those these you know from Detroit on,
they're gonna need, really, they're going to need to keep
stacking wins on top of each other here if they're
going to want to get in the playoffs, and I think
he'll be a part of that.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
All right, we're gonna take our first break. We will
come back.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
We'll dive into the Kansas City Office versus the Dallas

I don't know a live We.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
Just talked about whooping people with no home training and
how and how good the twenty nineteen Tigers was.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
But I also did mention, if it happened to me,
I might want to grab an instrument, like I can't
say that on air.

Speaker 6 (18:54):
You know, you said something cold weeks ago. I was like, boy, damn,
we'll get fired about that. I don't even remember what
that was. But let's not take it away all right,
here we go.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
Let's talk about the Kansas City Chiefs offense versus the
Dallas defense.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Let's call what you guys got.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Bron You feel like they've been running the ball all
that well, but they've been wanting.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
To They want they want to try, and you feel.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
Like the lack of the running game kind of make
things difficult in the in the passing game, like you
feel like they got potential to be like a really
good passing unit, but the lack of run don't bring
it all together. Sometimes they they they just had a
real good running game last week versus the Coats, Kareem
Hunt had a hundred some rushing yards.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Go look back.

Speaker 6 (19:34):
I'm like, damn, y'all only had a hundred yard Russia,
even when Pacheco was there, even when Isaiah was there,
and he's trying to play Thursday.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
I don't think that that changes too much. You know,
it's it's just run hard.

Speaker 10 (19:45):
Though.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
I like his running.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
He's just like, just like Williams there for us. You know.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
It's something about when you go to that Super Bowl,
man and whatever happens after. You know, it's just it
takes a lot out of these people and they come
back and they're not the same guy. Creed Humphrey was
best enter in the league last year. He looks a
little different this year, Brian, bro some of these guys,
I think they they passed block decently. I mentioned that earlier.
Pat holds the ball like what's second longest, first longest,
third long.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Him the guy you just played, dude, jaylen Hurst.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
Yeah, but see Jalen Hurts hold the ball because he
can't see Pat trying to run around him make something
happen downfield.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
That's why he holds the ball so long.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
Brian, I think what's gonna eventually happen is I think
the Chiefs are gonna start to try to run the
ball against you to see if they can, right I
think the Cowboys D line or run stopping unit has
an advantage in there, especially if Trey not not playing
out there, so you really get to beat up on
him on the inside. And I think it's gonna turn
into a game where the Chiefs are gonna have to
pass the football and Pat is just as good as

(20:39):
he's just as good and annoying as he always is.
You gotta finish plays with him, you know what I'm saying.
And I think it's gonna turn into a passing game.
And we'll talk a little bit more later brow.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
Which you think, Yeah, I know, I mean only I
think only Tennessee, Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
And Arizona throw the ball more than that. Can't say Chiefs.

Speaker 8 (20:57):
I mean they call more pass plays than run plays,
and so that's something you have to deal with. Something
I went back and looked at because I'm curious with
Wayde Dallas, and I'm going to ask my Steam colleagues here.
Dallas has gotten into this five man line stuff that
the Eagles did not watch film.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
MO.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Yeah, they said they didn't know.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
By the way.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
The funny part about that is the coach literally even
said we're gonna be doing more five man pressures. When
they got quin he said in a public statement, We're
going to be doing more five man fronts.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
This is where, Okay, this is where.

Speaker 8 (21:30):
Then I have to ask you guys the question because
this year went back and looked the KNC Chiefs. They've
had seven of their eleven games, seven of their eleven
games were opponents that did not play five man front.
The teams that played five man front against them, Detroit

(21:50):
and Buffalo, only one play each, probably a goal line situation.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
There.

Speaker 8 (21:55):
Vegas played eight snaps against them. This last game against
the Cold they played eleven colts kip up forty seven
yards four point two per play. They had one touchdown
in that situation. Your five man front is really really
good at playing run defense, right, do you feel like

(22:16):
it's your best pass rushing unit or best pass rushing
scheme or do you go back to your four man line,
which if Kansas City is going to throw the ball
sixty eight percent of the time, do you not play
your five man line thinking Kansas City is going to
just throw the football.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (22:37):
So, Brian me and You've been breaking this down for
a couple of weeks now, which is I'm befuddled that
the Eagles haven't because we have your five man front
is just like a three four is just like a
four to three over under, right, right, You don't stay
in those base formations. When the other team brings out
eleven personnel or more, you go into nickel, You go
in the dime. At that point, you ain't. It's just

(23:01):
better when we got our three big guys out there.
Our three interior guys just make it all work. Are
two edges and the linebackers. Here what Flus has done,
I'll give you some credit.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Flues.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
In certain situations we do go to the four man front.
It just is what it is, right. What I think
eventually will end up happening because we play a lot
more five man this week is you can keep the
five man front, but you have to be creative with
what you do with your linebackers. At that point, you
just can't keep two linebackers down, you know what I mean.
So you can keep rushing five and maybe on those

(23:31):
third you know, third and long, you know, clear passing situations,
you'll keep your mic there. Let's just say say that
you know that that's overshown to something, and that second
linebacker either has to be a Marquee Bell type guy
or a Nickel corner type guy, just to give them
guys extra extra help in the back. If you can
stop the run with just five guys and you can
really dip your linebackers out there.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Cool.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
But to your point, especially versus this team, they got
some fast guys on this team, so you want to
technically be as athletic as you possibly can be. I
think if you're gonna roll five man front, I think
your line got it. You know, they they have to
we have to use less of them. So I'm thinking
one guy that's off ball, one off ball lineback. Even
if you got Donvanezaraku on the line standing up or
something like that, that's still the edge.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
In my mind, you're gonna.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Have to do something with the linebackers to help with
the coverage in the back.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yeah, I kind of feel like that to me, I think.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
But keep rolling it because them one on one across
the ball.

Speaker 11 (24:21):
That's the thing.

Speaker 8 (24:22):
That's the thing I think that I'm looking forward to
is how many of the one on one matchups can
you get? Because I can say it's different with Tray
Smith being out of the lineup for Kansas City and
Mike Caliendo having to take over and Mike Calliendo has
you know, he's been in there for maybe one hundred
I mean he's played. He's got like one hundred and

(24:43):
forty some odd snaps where he's had to pass block.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
But he gives up a lot of pressures. Yeah, you know,
he's one of these guys, he's the he.

Speaker 8 (24:50):
When you look at pressures overall, for the amount of
snaps he plays, he's the highest by far. So this
could be an opportunity for the Cowboys. Like I say,
the running game, the running game where it scares me.
It scares me with the quarterback running. You know, because
I went back and looked at this morning, all the

(25:10):
ten plus yard runs that they've had.

Speaker 11 (25:14):
The majority of are mahomes.

Speaker 8 (25:16):
I mean, I'm thinking it's thirty I think it was
thirty five plays I looked at that were ten plus
yard runs.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
I'm thinking, Okay, how they doing it?

Speaker 8 (25:24):
How they get mahomes, mahomes drop back mahomes runs.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
You know, that's that's where it is.

Speaker 8 (25:30):
They'll they'll hand the ball to They'll hand the ball
to the one of their backs, you know, Hunt Pachecko,
one of those guys will get the we'll get a
ball and it's like maybe there's like two or three
of those sprinkled in. Everything else is Mahomes running with
the ball. And it's not design runs. It's him dropping
back them wanting to throw the ball, and then him

(25:53):
getting out of the pocket and running. I mean, that's
where that's where this guy punishes you. And we we've
talked about playing against TEA teams that have running quarterbacks
and they haven't run. This cat is gonna run. This
guy's gonna run. And so you've got to be you've
got to be mindful of that. And and Fox is right,
you've got to have speed on the field.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
You've got to be.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
Able to close on these guys when they get in
those situations.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Do you think this is a game where they absolutely
have to spy him because of that?

Speaker 8 (26:22):
Man, I can't get flues to answer that question. I
you know, I mean when I asked him before that's
he put me on read and then left me on
read for the since week two.

Speaker 11 (26:30):
Which is fair.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
I mean, that's that's a strategic thing.

Speaker 8 (26:32):
But yeah, no, but I mean, but yeah, I just
wanted to know the philosophy of the spy and I
but we've seen We've seen times where Sam Williams and
I'm trying to remember the game, but we've seen Sam
Williams like pop up and play in the middle and
then you know, and and and it might have been
the Arizona, might be Kyler Murray or sol h but

(26:54):
you got a guy I didn't play, but it was. Yeah,
it was one of those games where you're like, you're
watching him spy and you're going, Okay, well they're capable
of do it. I just don't know scheme wise, is
that something that they do well.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
I would say you got over shown back. He is
made to spy like he is that he is. He
can run guys down, he can play in the middle,
like there's everything about him says he's perfect for the role.
The question is again, is the defensive coordinator. Does it
fit in what he wants to do see schematics.

Speaker 8 (27:23):
Yeah, this is the thing too. I think with Mahomes
that he'll wander around in the pocket and you know,
depending on how the rush is, He's another of those
guys like Hurts that might sack himself a little bit,
you know, because he just and you I went back
and watched all the sacks that this team's really good
at past block and they do it a long time
because he holds the ball, holds the ball and then

(27:46):
all of a sudden, I think, I think, if you're
going to play I think, if you're gonna play overshown
in this game, I'm attacking him.

Speaker 11 (27:54):
I am not letting mahomes.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
You're not going to spy you like I know.

Speaker 8 (27:58):
Yeah, if you if it's like you know, you see
him drop back and we're talking about that. The metrics,
the eye test, all that stuff will tell you they
throw the ball damn near seventy percent of the time. Yeah,
you know you're probably going to get a pass. I
think you get to pin your ears back and go
after him. Don't let him drift around and make plays
in the pocket and throw it behind his back or
shovel it or what else. He's going to go out

(28:19):
and attack him and kind of tie him up because
there's times where linemen were jumping jumping up and he
pulled the ball down and then now that makes him
have to think, Okay, now we're gonna do it, and
then he looks for the escape. So if you attack him,
I think you have a chance to affect him in
this football game.

Speaker 5 (28:38):
All right, we're gonna take our final break. When we
come back. I got some questions for you guys about
this offense and some about the Cowboys defense. Hopefully we'll
be able to get to one question about Shoddy and
what he said about the pass rush. We'll talk about
that when we come back. This is Dallas Cowboys dot

Yelling over us normally, but this time he was just like, oh.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
Yeah, you're back. The Welcome to the SWBC Mortgage Studios,
Ron star Let's I have some questions for you guys.
Here's my first question about the Kansas City offense. Which
is the bigger challenge for Dallas or she Rice, Xavier
Worthy or Travis Kelsey.

Speaker 6 (31:58):
I think for this particular defense, and it's constantly growing.
Every single week we learned something new. I think the
deep ball tore Worthy could be an issue because that's
just how we give up points. R she Rice is
like a physical ball in hand guy, bigger, like go
tackle him type dude. Kelsey's not as good as he
once was, but he's really smart, like finding zones and

(32:21):
kind of stuff. So I mean, you would have to
figure that out, but he ain't gonna get you in
one play. I think Worth and Hollywood Brown can run too.
Both those guys can run, so you have to think
about that. But I don't think the Cowboys can be
absolved from the idea that people could just run past you,
because we've seen like lesser guys like run past the Cowboys,

(32:41):
you know what I mean, And these are guys that
are built to run past you.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
So I would say that those guys.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
In particularly worthy and that's track speed.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
Yeah, I think the thing with Kelsey has played a
little bit better. I mean when you watch him, he's
still one of those guys that seems like in big
games he shows up. But I worry about the speed overall,
like the stuff, you know, with the they're really really big.
Their offense is big on throwing the ball underneath and

(33:10):
letting those guys run. It's not about I mean we could, yeah,
there's some deep ball elements to it, but it's really
Mahomes kind of getting it, getting the ball out and
then taking off and running.

Speaker 11 (33:22):
So you know, you got to worry about things.

Speaker 8 (33:24):
Dallas has kind of shown that they're still struggling with
things in the flats. You got to worry about the
ball going to the flat and how they're going to
get the ball the flat, and they'll those screens, you know.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
That's another thing.

Speaker 8 (33:35):
Seems like every time anybody throws a screen against Dallas
it's an eight yard game, maybe even more so.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Those are the things I worry about. I think that.

Speaker 8 (33:42):
But but the speed overall of their receivers I think
will be the challenge this way. I think you got
to really, as soon as the ball is thrown, go tackle.
Just don't let four yard games be twenty four yard games.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Brian Derrick Eagleston.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
How would you guys match the corn up with these
wide receivers because all their wide receivers are different? Is
this a Bland Chase Rice game? Or is this a
Bland stays in the nickel game. Let you outside guys
be outside, Like, do we get more ready this game
because you're trying to move Bland to the outside to
deal with the faster guys.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
How would y'all how would y'all roll the corners diversity
these guys?

Speaker 5 (34:18):
You know what, I don't know that I've seen enough
from these corners yet to know that any of them
has specific skills that make me want to match them
up with an opponent in a certain way. Like right now,
I think I feel like this could be wrong. I
feel like the corners are just kind of like a
mash group of guys and and I don't know that

(34:41):
I see like, oh, this guy can really shut down
this he can he can handle speed, or this guy
can really handle aggressive widers, big aggressive.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
I don't I don't know that I've seen that yet.

Speaker 5 (34:51):
It seems like they're kind of all over the board,
and sometimes our success sometimes they don't, and it's not
necessarily As you said before, we've seen lesser receivers beat them, right,
So I don't know that I have a way that
I feel like you got him. I'm just like, basically,
you line up as you line up, and you gotta
cover whatever you got to cover, whether it's a zone
or you got the guy that your covering. I think

(35:12):
it creates some challenges because I think the speed is
still going to be the speed, and I don't know
that any of the Cowboys corners are track speed guys now,
so I think you're gonna have that problem. I don't
think anybody's going to match up really well in that way,
if I'm answering your question correct. I don't really know
that there is a way that I would divide that up.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
You just kind of have to line up and play it.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Would you like a hot take? Sir?

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Sure go.

Speaker 6 (35:32):
I think Savon Reveal is the most talented cornerback that
you have in his room. He may not have all
the veteran stuff or all the technical stuff or like
time on task reading and routs and stuff like that,
but as far as like a physical body, I was
worried about his knees, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
But like, take it back to the Raiders game. Me
and Brian was watching film.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
If it's if it's if it's one thing that's catniped
for Brian brought us it's it's a wide receiver crossing
the field and a corner being able to run across
the field with him. That's one of the hardest plays
to like deal with Revel follow Trey Tucker, turner Trey
Tucker from depth and follow that place. Yeah, so that
let me know he can kind of fly a little bit.

(36:10):
And then when you just watched revelges in and out
of some of these plays, you see how massive he's
a big dude back and run really well.

Speaker 4 (36:16):
You can see that just watching him on the sideline.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
You're standing there watching you like he's bigger than everybody
else out there playing corn.

Speaker 6 (36:21):
Brian been saying this for a couple of weeks. Now,
I mean you you would wonder that Rebel maybe is
a Kelsey guy this we.

Speaker 8 (36:27):
Yeah, maybe a hybrid tight end killer is what I
would say. Uh, you know, just matching up with the
size and stuff like that within and how competitive you
have to be and his ability to kind of.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Carry some routes the way he does.

Speaker 8 (36:40):
I was doing with Jeff Kavanaugh this morning before Fash
and I were doing and Jeff brought up something it
was interesting about. I think it was a stat about
Rice the wide receiver real quick and I think or
it was wh I just can't remember worth they rest,
but one of the receivers is like a is a
huge threat against zone coverage. I think it's worthy, huge

(37:02):
threat against zone coverage, and you get him in man,
he can't he can't function.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
They sounded like Rice because it's.

Speaker 11 (37:09):
It's got I think, I think it might be right.

Speaker 8 (37:11):
I can't which which I've said, but it was one
of those things where like when you look at the splits,
like against zone coverage all day man coverage, it's like
five targets one catch, but running routes against zone it
was and I was trying to remember which one. But
to me, like I said, yeah, these are the problems
that you have to think about. You have to think

(37:32):
about the matchups, you have to think about, you know,
you know, to me, I think you have to almost
be physical with these guys. I think you have to
get you do not want to give these guys free
access and let them run. That's why they move them
around to try and keep people from banging them around
at the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 11 (37:49):
So to me, I got to figure out.

Speaker 8 (37:51):
I don't know about matching them up, but what I
do know about though, is be very mindful of free
access in this think don't just let them have track
speed starts and runs at you and then carrying it
down the field.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
The way they do.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
Come and say it was Rice, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
It was Rice.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
Yeah, yeah, I knew it was something. There's a big
split number that against man coverage, he's awful agetting zone coverage.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
He's one of the best receivers in the.

Speaker 6 (38:18):
League because Rice's probably not a guy that can shake
you off, you know, from a coverage standpoint, but like
in zone, he'll sit in the zone and go be
yet guy somewhere.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
So that makes a little bit sence.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Let's move on.

Speaker 5 (38:27):
Let's talk a little bit about the pass rush Shadia
I mentioned earlier. I think it was yesterday that they
didn't get as much pass rush in this game as
they would have won. I know, as you're watching the game,
there was certainly moments when it seemed like Hurts had
a lot of time in the pocket without necessarily having
a lot of pressure on him. What do you guys
think was the issue if you look at how the
Cowboys rushed the pass or what did you think it

(38:48):
was a problem? Number one and number two? What do
you think the problem potentially was?

Speaker 6 (38:51):
I think versus offensive line like that, I think there
are gonna be times where you win and sometimes you lose.
There were times where hers was kind of just sitting
around comfy. But I don't want to sound ungrateful, because
teams to do that all day versus Cowboys just just
a couple of weeks ago, but there were times where
the Cowboys definitely got their win. This is one of
one of the better games from Williams Quinn Williams. It's

(39:14):
one of his best games of his whole life. Pressure
twenty one pressures I think eight eighth this game. So
he might be up to twenty one in two weeks
or something like. He may be up to that now
or three weeks or whatever. But you know, I saw
a lot of pushing the pocket, and honestly, you know,
Jalen hurts, sorry y'all.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
But like he'll get rid of the ball quickly.

Speaker 6 (39:33):
Sometimes like if he ain't got nowhere to go, he'll
just throw it to We'll throw it somewhere. So maybe
the hits in sacks didn't all the way add up,
and sometimes him running around can kind of, you know,
mitigate that a little bit. But I think the pass
rush was it helped in coverage definitely, because there was
a whole swath of time where if Hurts was missing
or dumped the ball down because somebody was in his

(39:55):
face quickly. So I mean, shot didn't know better than me.
But I kind of disagree a little bit.

Speaker 8 (40:00):
I wonder if the five man line has something to
do with this. I wonder if having bigger guys on
the field has something to do with your pass rush.
And we always like to talk about, you know, maybe
lighter guys, more edged.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
Guys on the field.

Speaker 8 (40:13):
VOTs talks about it, always says about that, like the
with the NASCAR packages and stuff like that that teams
have where they put put four edges on the field
and just go rush you. And I wonder what just
the bigger body guys, you're you're you're rushing a different way.
You're you're doing a great job defending the run. Playing
five man line but you're really getting the most out
of your pass rush. When when all of a sudden,

(40:35):
when Marris Leafal is coming on a blitz and Ziraco's dropping,
I don't know if that's a good thing, you know,
but but what does it do? It sets something up
for somebody to be worn on one with somebody because
of the way the scheme works. I just don't know
if Dallas has I don't know if they have that.

(40:58):
I think Ezerrako could be that game. I just don't know,
Like we're expecting Sam, and I think Sam played better
in the game, but still you just don't him and
Fouler and those guys. They were really leaning on those guys.
It just hasn't materialized like we thought it was going
to be. Their five man line might be the best
way for them to get pressure just because of their

(41:19):
ability to push the front of the pocket.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
Final thing I want to hit before we end the
show the snapcount. When you look at the snap count,
the guys that have come back from injury actually played
quite a bit this last game. Rebel played sixty two
percent of the snaps overshell and played fifty nine percent
of the snaps one thing that popped out to me, though,
is you look at the linebacker position. Logan Wilson, a
new addition to the team before the trade deadline, he
only played thirty eight percent of snaps. Kenneth Murray, who

(41:45):
we all assumed he was coming here to replace in
some sense, had sixty two percent of the snaps.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
My question for you.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
Guys is why and did you see anything that suggested
maybe that this was a good decision and maybe that
Murray took advantage of it and played well.

Speaker 6 (42:00):
I would have to watch the film with mess in
my mind if I had to just be messing real
fast and assume that they just took turns drive like
you know, just you get a drive, you get a drive,
and maybe some drives last a little longer than others,
and maybe that had something to do with it, Like like,
maybe it wasn't purposefully Murray, we want you to play more,
maybe just some drives.

Speaker 5 (42:21):
But it was almost double so it was it was
a significant difference between their play percentage.

Speaker 6 (42:26):
If I if I had the time, because I don't
because we were just moving on to something different.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
But if I was.

Speaker 6 (42:30):
Messy enough, I wonder if I'm gonna say it i'd
but I just wonder why that's the case if they
if they just took turns, drive a drive.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
But I don't know what's it. I'll figure out.

Speaker 5 (42:39):
Yeah, in the second I mean, obviously you played more
in the first half. You probably had a lot more
plays than maybe in the second half. So maybe that
was maybe I was part.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
Of like, damn, well, they showed a lot of first
downs on this group on the field. I don't know.
I'm just guessing.

Speaker 8 (42:50):
Oh no, that The fun one is always when to
go back and look at how somebody ran the ball
against you. Yeah, and some guys on the field, but
he's on the field like sandboards on the field, it's
less than four yards to carry. Every other linebacker it's
seven eight yards of carry.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
You know. Sometimes it's to me. I kind of feel
like though that we're going to.

Speaker 8 (43:07):
Get to a point in time where it's going to
be more Logan Wilson. I think that they're going I
think they're just trying to get Logan Wilson's acclimated to
what's going on. I mean, he made a really nice
stop on third down to you know, a ball stone
underneath driving on the ball, getting anough fourth down. I mean,
he he just has that kind of awareness, that kind
of ability. We talked about him the other day, the

(43:29):
angles that he takes and coverage. You know, Murray, you know,
God bless me, jumped a slant route on that third
and two. You know, I mean it's like like where
did that come from? You know kind of a thing.
But I have a feeling that the coaches are going
to start, They're going to start playing, They're gonna start
playing Logan Wilson more.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
Well, I guess that's really the question. There is there
is a better.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
That's my points better.

Speaker 4 (43:51):
Have you guys seen anything for Logan Wilson that makes
you think he should be getting less places? He's doing
all the things you expect.

Speaker 6 (44:00):
Coverage is nat especially when the Eagles threw the ball
a little more than running, and we're gonna see the
same thing versus the Chiefs as well, they gonna probably
throw the ball a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
It's intentional, is naday difference?

Speaker 5 (44:10):
All right, We appreciate you guys. Joes back tomorrow. We
we'll wrap this thing up. We'll get into the Kansas
City defense versus the Cowboys offense. We'll tell you what
we think is gonna happen on Thursday till then for
Vox Lombardy, Brian brought us some Derek Kielt and this
has been the Break live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.

Speaker 1 (44:24):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
