Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Cowboys This is Cowboys
storyline presented by Gillette, the official shave of the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Here's Nick Eatman.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
What's up? Welcome to Cowboys storyline presented by Gelettam Nick Eatman.
It's Friday, November the fourteenth. We've had a great week
talking about everything you can imagine from coming off the
bye week tragedy of Marshawn Neeland. How the Cowboys are
going to handle it, the new moves, the defensive players

(00:46):
or what the defense is going to look like, and
how the Cowboys can beat the Raiders and if that happens,
what kind of momentum will that bring as they head
to the second half of the season. All right, eight
eight eight, eight five five to two nine seven is
the number to call. Let's get started. Brian in Kansas City, Brian,

(01:06):
what's up?

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Good morning, sir morning.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
I can't believe I got two mornings in a row
of leading us off.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Huh yeah, you're the leadoff hitter. Let's go get on base.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
I'm telling you. Shout out to Joe and Stanford.

Speaker 6 (01:19):
Nobody was more consistent than that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
So you know, it's just telling beam, I am so
ready to see what this defense looks like. You know,
we made all the moves we you know, hopefully learned
some of our lessons in the first half of the season,
had to buy. I'm just ready to see something better
than the thirty second defense in the NFL. You know,

(01:43):
I'm just.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'll hear you, and so and so is Jerry and
Shoddy and Will McLay and see yeah, you know, I
mean they're like and we all are. And you can
easily say, well, why do this move. You're out of it.
You're not gonna make But but we're tired of watching
this crap, you know, And that's what it is so like,
at least for all of us. Let's let's let's get
this thing better. Let's get it better now. And it'll

(02:06):
get better, you know, even next year and all that,
but let's fix it now. I'm with you.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
I'm telling you, it is so frustrating to watch. And
I'm a you know, the military and sports have one
thing in common. There's a kind of never say guy attitude,
you know, just always going for it, never give up.
You know that that attitude of you know.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
I couldn't be a tank ason guy. You know, I
just just not.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Just not in me. So, you know, we hope that
we hope that they've done what they needed to do.
You know, I'm still a little nervous. This is the
thing I'm most nervous about is I'm still a little
nervous about the tackles. Yeah, going into this game. You know,
we got Max Crosby across the you know, across the
way from us. I'm a little nervous about about our tackles.

(02:55):
They didn't look good the last time we were on
the field, and I'm just a little.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Nervous about that.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
So give me your point of view on on what
you thought, because I think in the offense we're good.
Everywhere else those are the two places that that you know,
the offensive tackles were obviously a weak spot on our
last game because one of them got replaced. Yeah, you know, so, uh,
I'm gonna go with I think we're gonna I think
we're going to run it up again. I think it's

(03:22):
going to be something along the lines of thirty seven.
I'm gonna go thirty seven twenty seven, And it's not
really even that close they the Raiders get a last
second you know, garbage touchdown. So but give me your
ideas on the on the offensive line. Would you go
with Nate Thomas? Would you keep stealing there?

Speaker 7 (03:40):
What do you think?

Speaker 8 (03:41):
And I'll hang up and listen. Man, good to talk
to you.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
I appreciate that. Thank you.

Speaker 9 (03:46):
You know.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Let's let I mean, I think Sarren Steel needs to
you know, make sure he's healthy. Yeah, he got replaced.
He was also injured. Heading into that game. It was
questionable where they was going to play with Migraine. He played,
didn't play his best. Let's see how how he does,
how he performed, you know. And I mean, if we're

(04:10):
just being honest about it, I mean I'm not sure
if you if you want a Thomas to play, I mean,
are we sure he doesn't need to be playing at
left you know, left tackle? You know, because I think
Terrence Steel has been playing better than than Tyler Goyton
be personally. But you know, I understand first round pick.
We're trying to you know, move him along, get him there,
and he needs reps and all all that stuff. You're

(04:32):
playing for the future, I get it. But if we're
playing for right Now, to try to win these games,
you got to put your best guys out there. I mean,
I'm not one hundred percent sure that that Tyler Goyton
is one of those five. You know, they want him
to be, we all want him to be. That doesn't
mean that's the case. So I would go with status
quo right now, Let's get the those five guys and
then let Nate Thomas be your your swing tackle. And

(04:55):
and I think you got to you know, you definitely
got to run the ball well on first and second down.
Just got to stay out of those third long situations.
That's any game, but that's probably more important in a
game like this. All right, Gary in New Mexico is next. Gary.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Hey, Nick, Happy Friday, man, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
How you doing.

Speaker 10 (05:11):
I'm doing good. So I want to start with the
trivia question because that's my thing, you know, I want
to piggyback off of the trivia questions on the website.
So Ron Springs was one of three backs to score
a Russian touchdown and throw a touchdown pass in that
eighty three game against the Raiders, which, by the way,
I was in attendance as an eleven year old sitting
next to my father there at that football game. One

(05:33):
of my greatest memories. Wow, here's my question for you,
because because you're a smart guy on this kind of stuff,
named the cowboy linebacker that scored the third and final
touchdown of his career in that.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Same game, the linebacker that scored in that game. Shoot,
so you said, is his third touchdown?

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (05:57):
It was the third and final touchdown of his career.
He scored on a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter
of that football game, right in front of my face.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
I was literally I could.

Speaker 11 (06:08):
Have touched it.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Mike Hegman, that's it.

Speaker 10 (06:12):
Man, number fifty eight.

Speaker 12 (06:14):
I knew you would get it, you know.

Speaker 10 (06:15):
I got to feel these weird ones that.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
You Yeah, you know. You know why I got that
is because you said it's his third one. And all
I can remember was the Super Bowl when he like
stripped the ball from Bradshaw and Randon in so I
know he had scored. And then I was trying to
think of the other guys like Anthony Dickerson maybe or
I don't even I'm trying to think of the other
linebackers that were there, and I'm like, I don't I
don't even know so I know, Mike, Yeah, Bob runing, Yeah.

Speaker 10 (06:40):
Yeah, I don't think breevers, you know. And Hegman's other
touchdown that he scored was in nineteen eighty when Randy
White just pulverized Ron Jawarski and Hegman picked that up
and scored the touchdown. You know, Ironically, all three of
those games, the Cowboys lost. Every game Hegman scored, the
Cowboys lost. So maybe that was a bad, bad, anyway
bad thing.

Speaker 9 (06:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (07:00):
Yeah, on onto this year's team. Yeah, well, I would
caution fans not to get too excited about Revel and
Overshown coming back. We need to remember, man, these guys
may be good, but they're coming off major, major injuries.
It takes time to come back from a major injury.
And Revel he's never played a snap of NFL football,

(07:22):
So I'm cautiously optimistic, but not over expecting things from
those guys. My question, and then I'll hang up, is
concerning the offense. You know, the offense is struggled in
the last couple of weeks. I think there's a number
of reasons for it, but one theory that I have
that I would like your I'd like your take on
is that this is kind of a new offense and
now we're to the middle of the season, so coordinators

(07:44):
now have film of this offense, and they know what
they like to do, and now they know what they're
good at and what they're not good at. So naturally,
once you get film on them now you can start
playing them a little bit differently. And I think that
may have something to do with some of the struggles
of the last couple weeks. But I'll hang up and
listen and thank you for taking my call.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
It's a great point, I mean, and you're right that
does happen, you know, but you just like you just
like they say all the time, like, well, you know,
these they pay their players too well, you know what
you know, these coaches are are paid to uh to
look at you know, to look at their defense too,
and and and look at you know, and and and
also self scout themselves. And that's why you have seven

(08:25):
or eight analytics people to say, all right, you realize
on third and four, third and four, we run to
the left eighty percent of the time or whatever it is,
you know, And that's that's what their their analytics team does.
And so that's what the bye weeks for it, you know,
to really kind of self scout and kind of look
at their own tendencies and change some things up there.
You know, one thing that I would do if I

(08:46):
was Shotenheimer, is it is play the call the game
like like like you're supposed to call the game. Don't
worry about the defense. I know that it is easy
or that it's not easy to say it's not because
we understand this defense has been the worst in the
league and they don't stop anyone. But take the freaking points.

(09:08):
Take the points. First quarter, Take the points. And I'm
not saying if it's fourth and inches and you feel like,
you know Javonte is gonna get it or whatever, but
you know, fourth and goal from the three yard line
or whatever, and you're going forward. I mean, you don't
go for two. You don't go for two just just
because it's not easy. It's not an easy play. Take
the field goal. Take the field goal. Yeah, you would

(09:29):
have loved the touchdown. Take the field goal, and then
you know in the fourth quarter there, take take the points.
You never really know how the game is gonna go.
Just keep scoring. The only thing that's automatic really is
Aubrey at the twenty yard line. That's pretty automatic. Scoring
is not there. Get the points, keep keep going, figure
out something on defense, and finally make a play. And

(09:49):
I mean, I just I wouldn't change my play calling
all the time, just just for that, because it's very
you know, late in the game you have to. But man,
I don't chase points until I absolutely have to. And
I think that something that I think it's gotten in
his own head as a play caller. Man, just like
Parcels always says, you never figure out what a team
is until Thanksgiving. It's the same for a game. Wait

(10:10):
till like early fourth quarter and you know, maybe maybe
ten minutes to go. Now, now you really have to
make some changes here. But but before then, I'm just
taking points. I'm taking points. You never know when you're
gonna get that turnover, when the defense is finally gonna
make that play, because you know, you got to keep scoring.
I you know, you hear it all the time, like,

(10:30):
well they can't score. You know I can score with
you know, can win games kick and field goals. Well
that's that's actually not true. Every game the Cowboys have
one or tied, Aubrey has made it at least two
so you can get thirty seven to forty points. You
can get forty four points and kick a field goal.
It's not like it's just touchdowns all the time. All Right,
that's my rant of the day and week about Steve
in New York.

Speaker 13 (10:52):
Hey, what's up?

Speaker 14 (10:53):
Nick?

Speaker 13 (10:53):
How are you totally totally agree with what you just said?
Just have a question and a quicker view for you.
But I just wanted to uh come in you and
everyone that dallascowboys dot com there for the way you
handled which uh just had to be an impossible situation.
That you guys were top notch. And I felt guilty

(11:15):
about talking about football no for a while. I still
kind of do. But this is the you know, this
is what we do. You know, you said you have
to move forward and move on, and that's that's what
we're going to do. But again, you guys did a
great job.

Speaker 9 (11:29):
I just want to thank you.

Speaker 13 (11:30):
I'll give you credit for that.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
I appreciate that. And you know what, and we've said
it all week long. You you you know, callers that
come in here if they want to talk about, you know,
their own their own stories, and they want to talk
about Marshaw and they want to talk about how to
cover brock Bowers whatever. You're not wrong on this because
people handle it things their own way, and a lot
of people use this show to talk football to get
away from their others, you know, stuff that's going on

(11:52):
in there. Absolutely we get all of that, and and
we've welcomed every everything this week and really any week.

Speaker 13 (12:01):
Appreciate it. It is appreciated. My question is, realistically, just
what are your expectations for Digs for the remainder of
the season, if any. Yeah, I really can't. I can't
put my head around that.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
No one can steve. I mean really, it's it's weird.
It's a unique thing. I'm probably biased because I like
the guy personally. I like Trayvon Diggs personally, and I
really like him as a player when he's when he's playing, well, oh,
he freelances. He does his own thing. He doesn't tackled,

(12:36):
all right. You know, he's a corner, he's one hundred
pounds whatever. He's not supposed to be laying the wood.
He's not trained lane. He's Trayvon Diggs and he's covered.
You know, he's been covering an all Pro wide receiver
since he was three years old. He's been chasing stuff
on a round. He's pretty damn good. So I want
to get his head right, get him in the right space,
and I want him to play against the Chiefs on Thanksgiving.

(12:59):
That's what I want.

Speaker 13 (13:00):
I don't care what our record is.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
I want him to play. Now, you know I it's
it's a it's a weird situation, and there's a lot
that I don't know. I know that, but I know
when he's out there playing and he's playing man to man,
he's brought as good as as they've they've had here
in a long time. So I selfishly want to see
that again because I think he makes everybody better.

Speaker 13 (13:22):
Agreed, That's exactly what I feel, real quick. I don't
to hold jump the trivia Raiders Cowboys weird kind of
a strange rivalry. Go back to two thousand and one,
not obviously a great year. We went out up to
Oakland to the Old Coliseum, lost Anthony right through. Two
touchdowns in that game, one to Galloway and the other

(13:42):
one to this guy who only played one year for
the Cowboys, and this was one of his two touchdowns.
I guess this is in the Philip Philipovitch mode. Of
a just a random nick.

Speaker 6 (13:54):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
He only had two touchdowns and.

Speaker 13 (13:57):
Yeah for the Cowboys. He played that one year in
two thousand some one.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Like like the only Okay, Kenyon Rambo is coming to mind,
But I don't think that's right, Darren Savarini.

Speaker 13 (14:08):
I don't know, Darren Svarini, that's it. Yeah, here you go.

Speaker 15 (14:12):
Yeah, I know, I know.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
I think Quincy started the game and got hurt, and
then Anthony Wright came in. I know he threw a
touchdown to Joey. I remember that, But then I I
was just kind of going through the old Darren Chevarini
eighty five.

Speaker 13 (14:29):
Right, all right, well we got you guys are doing man?

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Hey, thank you, Steve, all right, a lot of fun,
all right, Jeremy salt Lake, Jeremy, what's up, dude?

Speaker 15 (14:38):
Hey, what's going on?

Speaker 16 (14:39):
Nick?

Speaker 3 (14:39):
How are you?

Speaker 15 (14:41):
I'm doing okay, man, I'm doing good.

Speaker 9 (14:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (14:45):
I just kind of wanted to call and I hadn't
had a chance to talk this week. Hey, Yeah, thank
you guys. You know, I just want to thank everybody.
You know, when things like this happened, obviously has made
all of us kind of reflect, right, and this past

(15:06):
year for me has been one of the most difficult
in my life, you know, physically, you know, my dad
has Alzheimer's and dementia. Came to live with me a
few months back, and so like, you know, just like
no one's part of Rob's story and a few others.
You know, I know that you know Irene's mom or

(15:32):
she's she's got things going with with parents as well,
and like, you know, we're all kind of a lot
of us go through the same things, right, and I'm
just very thankful for this group, really family you've built.

Speaker 8 (15:45):
Nick.

Speaker 15 (15:46):
We we joked around last night. I joked around last
night and called your dad. But like it's like kind
of like on the on the spaces, but uh, it's
it's this is like a family, you know. This last year,
I don't know that, you know. I mean, I'm sure
I could have gotten through it, but not as well
without looking forward to those Thursday nights with you know,

(16:07):
people that now I consider my friends. And and I
just want to tell everybody I love them and hug
the people that are next to you. You know, I've
been touched, you know, with suicide myself, with family members
and a good friend of mine several years ago, and
I remember something his wife, you know, said to me
at his funeral was that, you know, he just couldn't

(16:28):
get past the next five minutes, you know, And I
think that was something she said that was really poignant,
because you know, that's that's really what a lot of
these things are. They're the problems that we have in
line for temporary yeah, and seeking permanent deion permanent solutions.
Can you know, leave a wake that you never considered.

(16:52):
So if you're ever considering that, just make it past
the next five minutes. Take it, Take it five minutes
at a time. Your life's worth it. People will miss you,
and people love you. And I just wanted to tell
you all that I love you and thanks for being
here man, and go cowboys, thank you.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Jeremy. Yeah, And he's referring to the Twitter spaces that
they do every Thursday night. And I did jump on
there for about fifteen twenty minutes or so and talk
to some people and you know that I hadn't ever
met before that that don't get to call, but they
listen and then they go there and talk. And you know, Jeremy,

(17:28):
you know, you're you were talking about you know, family members,
and you know what Rob in Vegas and his dad
and who passed away, and then with Irene and and
you know, dealing with with her, you know, with her
mom and her family members and stuff. The fact that
y'all know that, you know, you don't just know each other. Now,
you don't just know each other, but you know these

(17:50):
you know, everyone's family situation. Not everyone, but but you
know certain people that you know willing to share and
all that. So that that's a really cool thing. You know,
say that about next five minutes. That's that, that's powerful
because that's kind of where we are. You know, it's
been a weird week though it's been. It's been you

(18:10):
know where you thinking about a lot of things. And
you know, I've heard I mean, if you really want
to dive into things, you can drive yourself crazy thinking
about everything. You know. Wow, they're on a bye week.
What a What a great week for the Cowboys to
be on a bye week. They don't have to prepare
for a game you know worked out, you know, because

(18:31):
of this happened. They're on a bye week. Well, okay,
that's fair, that's true. I mean, and I've said that
it's one way to look at it. If they were
on a bye week, though, would Marshawn have been driving
around on Wednesday night, you know, out late like that,
they didn't have practice the next day, didn't have structured

(18:51):
didn't have the meetings and all that the next day.
You know, then maybe one day would have changed some things.
He would have talked to the right person sitting, this
would have happened, and you know, and then whatever he
was going through. I'm not saying he'd fix everything. Whatever
he's going through. Maybe a different perspective, and you know,
give me five more minutes, you know, so just different

(19:14):
ways to look at it. All right, We're gonna go
from one Jeremy to another. Jeremy in DC.

Speaker 12 (19:20):
Jeremy, Hey, Nick, how you doing today?

Speaker 10 (19:23):
Brothers?

Speaker 12 (19:23):
You're staying out of trouble?

Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, for sure? How are you?

Speaker 12 (19:28):
I'm doing good, man, I'm doing good. You didn't hurt
nobody today.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
I love how people. I love it. That's how people
know you now, like you know, I don't hurt nobody.
But but Jeremy, you were you were one that also
called and kind of shared some some things this week.
And we don't have to get into it. That's not
what the call is. I was just wanting to thank
you for for you know, opening up to some things
and and you know, and just appreciate that you you know,

(19:53):
sharing that stuff on the air.

Speaker 12 (19:55):
Yeah, no problem, man, I feel like everybody else was
sharing some stuff, so you know, I felt like I should,
you know, take it there myself because I've been trying
to find the little storyliner's space or whatever it's called
on Twitter because I'm I'm not really on Twitter, but
I started one just so I can become part of
the lord the little storyline on Twitter, but I can't

(20:19):
find it. I don't even know because all the time
I look up storyline, I see you, Nick.

Speaker 9 (20:23):
Yeah, I'm uh, I care Like I'm not one hundred
percent of sure how to tell you that right now,
but I know that the people listening, like, Jeremy, what's
your what's your what's your Twitter handle? What is it?

Speaker 12 (20:41):
Hold on? Hold on? Let me go on ahead, and now.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
All right, y'all find him, y'all, y'all, y'all find him.
We're gonna keep this thing rolling, but we don't need
to do.

Speaker 13 (20:48):
That on you.

Speaker 12 (20:52):
Yeah, Nick, So my question to you is, because I
feel like we should just put the best for a
linemen down. You know what I'm saying. So I feel like,
going into this game, I think our defensive line should
now be like depending on who we play. So I
feel like, since they're gonna try to run Ashton gent
All over us, I think we should go defensive tackles

(21:14):
should be Quentin william and Kenny Klok and then the
defensive ends should be Osa and uh uh Clowney. You
know what I'm saying. And then I would just say
just let since since now that we have Quintin Williams,
I feel like we should be able to move Osa

(21:35):
up and down that line off some talent on crossord
type stuff. You know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
That's not that's not a bad idea, and and you know,
on occasional, occasional plays like that, for sure, I mean
that that's that's he's got the ability to do that.
You know, that's that's You're not gonna get a ton
of pass rush by doing that. But but that's okay,
I mean, that's you're you're also guarding.

Speaker 14 (21:59):
Against run A.

Speaker 12 (22:00):
Disagree with Rob because I don't think that saus Garden
is gonna be worse those two first round picks, because
you saw his first game as a as a coach.
He was out there doing the same dance that Blade
was doing. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Rob's taking a beating from that one. That that take,
But you know what, it's a take. And as I
said all the time, nobody.

Speaker 12 (22:23):
I mean everybody had it on opinion.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
You know what I'm saying, They've never lost.

Speaker 12 (22:26):
He's trying to make it a no flys on But
if the quarterback got time, the ball won't fly.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
That's true, true, all right.

Speaker 12 (22:34):
But I don't give scores Nick, because I feel like Nate,
I feel like we can win every game by one
point or three points, so I always feel like we're
gonna be underseeated. So that's why I don't never get
scored and stuff like that. Right, all right, I think
next week.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
All right, appreciate it, Thank you for the call. Yeah,
it would be nice to win a game by more
than one point or three points or something. You know,
how about win by twenty four point points. Let's put
it on them, Just put it on them. Win this game.
And you know, I think they're going to have a
lot of energy, there's no doubt about that. Are they

(23:10):
going to be as mentally prepared as they they should be.
That's that's the key. That's that's what's on the coaching staff.
That's what's on Brian Schottenheimer. That's you know, that's what
they've got to do. They've got to get this thing
ready to go and and uh and and go up
there and with with the purpose and go win the game.
We're going to take a break here on Cowboys storyline
presented by Jette will be right.

going here on Fridays edition of this show. Josh in Princeton, Texas. Josh, Good,
how are you.

Speaker 15 (25:38):
I'm all right.

Speaker 6 (25:39):
I've been listening to the shows. I just couldn't bring
myself to call. In the wake of the Marshawn Nelly tragedy.
It's just too sad and I don't know, but I
want to offer my condolences to everybody affected by it.

Speaker 11 (25:53):
Man.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
I just want to give my prediction for Monday. I
think we're going to excited based on the new the
people coming back from injuries, and the new additions. So
it's going to be from the sighting plays. But ultimately
I think that it's going to come down to the wiring.
Is going to be Cowboys thirty one eight.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Okay, well, I mean that very well could happen. It's
going to be, you know, one of those type of games.
I agree with you. I think it's gonna be a
lot of energy. That's kind of what it's kind of
what happens right when you go to Vegas. I mean
you expect that, you expect, you know, Monday night football
and a new place to play and you know, it's

(26:36):
been a long time. I mean, I played Monday night
against Arizona, but so much seems like has happened, and
you know, going into the bye week, I just thought, man,
this team needs a bye week. We all do, like
all of us. We just needed a break, just need,
you know. And then considering what all has transpired, now

(26:59):
you're sitting here and and I don't mean this in
any disrespect towards what happened. Obviously that's the biggest thing.
It's bigger than football. But when you're talking about this
football team, they need to play a game. They need
a football game. They need to get back out there
and play a football game. We all do. We need
to cover a game, we need to watch that we've

(27:19):
been talking and analyzing and all this stuff. And again,
I hope you take that with with how I'm saying it.
I'm not saying we don't need to be thinking about
this more we think about football. That's not what I'm saying.
But I'm you know, as shot he said, we're not
moving on, but we have to move forward. And moving
forward is playing that next next game, and you know,

(27:40):
and hope hopefully that they've you know, they'll honor Marshawn
neland and his legacy the right way and go out
there and kick some freaking ass. I mean that that's
what they need to do. That's what they need to do.
That's what the trade is. It traded for these defensive
players to get better on defense. The offense has kind
of struggled a little bit. It's it's a good offense,
but it's a little bit. They've had the bye week,

(28:02):
it hasn't been you know, just football only on their mind.
But but they need to get focused, get out there
and if they're going to do something. I mean, it
starts Monday nine. There's no doubt about it. All right,
who's next? My screen throw? So Chris, if you've got
a call out.

Speaker 12 (28:18):
We got Nigel and Vega Arizona.

Speaker 9 (28:21):
Nigel all right, Hey.

Speaker 11 (28:24):
Nick, Vegas. I wanted to go to that game, but
I'm afraid so I'm not spending the money on it.
But I believe you know what you just said. You
know I've been trying to call in. I'm gonna make
this quick for you. I'm just going to touch base
on two things. Know your audience. If you need help,
just know your audience, because we all have friends that

(28:46):
will say, hey, how you doing, how you feeling? You
say something, then they cut right into their own life, right,
and they're not really listening to you. So my point is,
just know your audience. Go to those people that listen, right,
Just go to the people that listen. Know your friends
that listen if you need help. The other thing that

(29:07):
I was curious about, you know, and I know you
have connections as in honoring marsha On. I believe a
cool thing to do would be and print his jersey
on a certain spot of the bench on the defensive
side with his helmet and ninety four across the bench.
Nobody sits there. That's his spot, and I think that

(29:28):
would be at a great trivia to him, and I
think it might be something that the team can look
at and take it as a positive that you know,
he is with us.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
Yeah, forever.

Speaker 11 (29:42):
And that's it.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
That's all I got for you.

Speaker 11 (29:43):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 8 (29:44):
Next, thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Yeah, so thank you for the call, Nigel. Good to
hear from you again. And you're right about that about listening.
Find the people that are going to listen, and you
know that when they come back and they say, are
you still doing this, or you know, is your your
parents still live there, or you know something about that
they still work there, either something that they remember because

(30:08):
they they know they were listening. There's a difference between
listening to someone and they also waiting to talk. And
I think a lot of people do that. The you know,
when they ask questions, you know, they really just want
I want to you know, you to finish so they
can they can ask you, you know, how was your weekend?
It was good? Well here here let me tell you
about mine. That happens a lot. But you find the

(30:28):
people that are listening as for a tribute for Marshawn,
I'm sure there's gonna be some things that you know,
they've talked about some you know, they're gonna wear T
shirts before the game, They're gonna have the decal in
their helmet, could be a jersey, you know, I've seen
we've seen that before. What I don't know is and

(30:51):
the good thing here is Pete Carroll and and Brian
Schottenheimer or friends. I mean they've they've worked together. There's
a lot of respect there. I'm just kind of thinking
out loud. I mean, did in Denver do something something
with the Marius Thomas or something where they did it
they only had ten on the field and they didn't

(31:13):
play with him or you know, and then they took
a penalty if something like that, which you know that
maybe that maybe that happens. Maybe the Cowboys go out
there with ten, you know, and they don't snap the
ball and there's a delay a game or something and
they you know, they decline it or something like that.
But I mean, there's a way to do a tribute
like that, you know, play play a snap maybe without

(31:35):
him or they're there. They've had a lot of time
obviously to to come up with some things like that.
So you know, we'll see, we'll see what happens. All right,
let's go to Rick in Saint Charles, Missouri.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Ricky Nick, how's going good?

Speaker 3 (31:50):
How are you doing good.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
I don't want to ruffle any feathers. I think I'm
saying this in the right way. But me personally, I'm
ready to move forward into football.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
You know, I appreciate everything that went over the last
couple of weeks and uh, you know, and I still
feel empathy for everyone involved that are feeling things. And
I'm not telling anybody how to feel. People should feel
how they feel and go from there. So onto the football,
I think, and I don't.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Feel bad about it. I mean, I'm I'm with you,
but I mean, let's move forward, like we say, and
and let's let's this is what we're here to do,
and let's you know, don't forget what happened and honor
the situation. But at the same time, let's let's let's go,
let's do it. And I think that's you know, no
one's going to wait for you, so you're right about them.

(32:42):
So I don't feel bad if that's how you feel,
because I feel the same way. I think a lot
of people do.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yeah, Oh, I don't feel bad. I just don't want
to step on toes because again, not people. People need
to feel how they feel. That's all I got, and
regard it, I'm sorry. And regarding the football aspect, I think,
you know, it's the way I feel about you know,
you get late season, you got people that are heard
and coming back and all that. I think, if they're

(33:08):
healthy and ready to play, meaning you know, they know
the game plan and all that they should play, I
want to see wins and I want to see as
many as we can get. I mean, gosh, we're in
halfway through the season and people want to throw it away.
Come on, I've waited too long to get into the
football season to throw half of it away. And let's

(33:30):
see what happens. And let me quote the old sports
movie that's it wasn't football, it was baseball when nuke
Lalouk started figuring it out the pitcher and he goes, hey,
winning it's like better than losing. And that's the way
I feel about that. So thanks again, Nick.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Thank you quoting Bull Durham there with nuke Laloosh. It's
a great baseball movie. A lot of a lot of
those sports movies. You can always find quotes there that
you can kind of relate to it. And I know
Tony Romo used the one from Major League a few
years ago, and it was about ten years ago actually,

(34:11):
and he was like, hey, let's go win the whole
f and thing. And they won one of those games
and then didn't win anymore. So that didn't really work out,
but you know it's good. I'm with you, Rick one hundred.
Let's if the game's on the schedule, go go win it.
I'm not worried about the draft pick, not worried about
this stuff. Let's get these guys that need to play football.

(34:32):
That's how you get better at football is to play football.
All right. We had back to back Jeremy's now we
got back to back Rick, Rick and Webster Massachusetts.

Speaker 20 (34:40):
Rick.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (34:42):
Hey, Nick?

Speaker 4 (34:43):
I'm good.

Speaker 9 (34:43):
How are you good?

Speaker 3 (34:45):
What's going on with you?

Speaker 7 (34:47):
A couple of things. One, my score is going to
be thirty five seventeen Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (34:52):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (34:54):
Like the other thing is, let's say this war is Germany.
They was looking for Twitter spaces, right, you can look
up by you know, buying is at r W number
two l I T E on Twitter, or you can
go with at Lord Dilly d y l l y

(35:17):
m hm the captain' that's Dylan.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 7 (35:24):
The other thing too, is you know, well Shotty said
the other day was just we're not we're we're not
moving on, We're just moving forward.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
I love that. Yeah, I think that's such a great
way to to to kind of categorize it, because you're
not forgetting anything. You're just you're just this is what
we do. If you're not moving forward, then you know
you're not living. So all right, let's go one more
break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back after this.

Speaker 21 (37:26):
Hey, Nick? Howre you doing great?

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Thanks for Corlin?

Speaker 21 (37:28):
Good good good, Right. So I just quick shout out
for Chris caller Chris not Chrispy, shout out for Christine
as well, but shout out for caller. Christy shared this
week he was and his family we're having a little
bit of difficulty that thankfully has ended really positively. But
they've been through it this week, so all the best
of them. So quick chat about the Marvi and overshown.

(37:53):
I'm just so excited to see this guy back out there.
And that doesn't mean I'm putting too much expectation into
what you can do one, but I remember when he
got injured last year, obviously his second big injury. He tweeted, well,
somebody else tweeted, I hope de Marvian isn't going to
be one of these guys that is really really promising,
and we just never see the best of him. And

(38:15):
the very day after his injury, he quote tweeted that
and said, I guarantee that I won't And I think
that just sums him up and heaven forbid he should
get another big injury. But if he did, you know,
he'd be exactly the same. He'd be straight back attacking
the rehab. And I'm just I don't think I've ever
rooted for a guy as much as I'm rooting for Demo.
So go get it. You've worked hard, really looking forward

(38:38):
to that thirty three thirteen Cowboys. I think you'll really
see a big team performance this week.

Speaker 9 (38:44):
Let's go all right?

Speaker 3 (38:45):
All right, thank you for the call.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
You know.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
You said it perfectly, though, because I've heard a lot
of people say that you haven't rooted for a player
like as much as you've rooted for this guy. I mean,
he's not only a fun player to watch, I mean
he is. He's just unique and he's built not really
like a linebacker. It's it's hard to I mean, what
is he you know when you look at him, I mean,

(39:11):
he's not a defensive end. He's not you know, he's
too tall for a proto type linebacker or at least
you know, he's kind of lean in how but he's
just he's very long, and he's he's got great agility instincts,
and he hits hard. I mean he's he's a big
time hitter. So he's just got a different skill set

(39:34):
and body type. He just wanted him to be a playmaker.
And then his mindset is just off the charts, you know,
and everything he says after an injury or leading up
to the game, I mean, he's just goes about things
the right way. He attacks those rehab from the injuries,
I mean as good as you possibly can. So you

(39:56):
just root for him. I mean, like because he's because
he helps your football team, he helps the locker room,
and he's just a good person. That seemed like he
was raised right and you just want him to succeed.
So I'm with you one hundred percent on that would
love to see what he does. And also understanding that
you know, he's probably not gonna play a ton of snaps.
He's he's not gonna go save the save the defense.

(40:20):
But can he just help because you know, need help.
This is this is one of those situations like you know,
anything will do well, just like if you were asking
for money, you know, I mean, we're we're You don't
have to you don't have to throw a hundred dollars
bill out there. I'm just just how about how about
a five twenty? Anything? I would says zero, you know

(40:42):
I would. I would have said his number, but since
it's zero, they need a little bit more than that.
All right, let's go. Uh Chris in Modesto, California.

Speaker 8 (40:52):
Hey, how you doing good? How are you doing pretty good?
Doing pretty good? I wanted to ask you how you
uh well? What you think about Logan being having like
Maurice and James under his wing and having I would say, Maurice,

(41:13):
uh play more snaps, play more snaps than James and
uh and like passing down situations covering say the tie
game Rock Bowers between him and Logan, and also playing
Solomon Thomas more at defensive end. I heard the gentleman
talk earlier, like Tyron Crawford situation. I honestly think Thomas

(41:39):
will be better at defensive end than Osa. I'd rather
keep Osa on the inside and have him out on
have him on the third and long and passing situations
on the inside, and I have a Donald was Ezraku
and Flowers on the ends in those situations. I just

(42:08):
wonder what you would think about that.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
Well, I'll say that thanks, thanks for the call, Chris.
I'll say this about Solomon Thomas. He didn't practice yesterday.
He's got a calf injury. I would be surprised if
he plays this game. Someone I don't. I can't sit
here and tell you a lot of these injuries like
I've experienced it. But I have with the calf injury,

(42:33):
and it lingers, and if you don't fully rested, it's
going to keep lingering for five years or ten years.
Solomon Thomas calf injury. He's only player that did not
practice yesterday fully, so I'd be surprised if he plays.
I'm looking at some of the other guys there. I
think Perry and Winfrey, who's full back to full he

(42:55):
would probably be, you know, able to take that spot there,
you know. And Jay Toy yeah obviously is as a
backup defensive tackle as well, but you know, the defensive end.
You know you can't just just because you're an agile
defensive tackle doesn't mean you just go out to end.
I mean there's a part of it where you know,

(43:17):
you you you have to do both. That's why the
greatest players are the ones that can that can do both.
If it's third and nine, I'm gonna get around the
edge and I'm going to go get to the quarterback.
If it's third and three, I'm you know, set the
edge and I'm gonna, you know, maybe have a double
team block and I'm going to stop the run. That's
that's the beauty of it. So putting Osa, putting Solomon

(43:37):
Thomas out there defensive end, these left tackles are I mean,
they they prepare for for Micah, Max Crosby, you know,
Miles Garrett, so that they're not going to do much there,
you know what I mean. Situational packages, yes, different wrinkles
all for that. But you got a lot of defensive ends.

(43:58):
I mean they need to go play defensive end. All right,
let's go Mark in Davis, California. Mark, what's up? Hey?

Speaker 14 (44:06):
Nick? How are you doing?

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Im good? How are you?

Speaker 14 (44:08):
I'm hanging in there? Man not to speak an Hey, yeah,
I just want to say thoughts and prayers out to
the kneeling family. You know, I wasn't able to get
in go liter this week, but it hits home then
because you know, my daughter was twenty eight when she passed.
So you know, I mentioned it before on the last
when I got in a couple of weeks ago, and

(44:29):
different circumstances when my daughter passed, but it still hits
home and still hurts the same.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, but does it?

Speaker 14 (44:37):
Yeah, it doesn't get any easier.

Speaker 10 (44:38):
Man.

Speaker 14 (44:38):
All I can say is to his family and his
survivors is, uh, you know whoever's everyone involved, is just
keep the faith, man, keep praying every day and that's it.

Speaker 12 (44:49):
Man.

Speaker 14 (44:49):
Just get up every day and think, think, you know,
think the Lord. Every day you'd wake up and that
you're here on earth because you know it could be
taken just like that. You know, in an instant. One
day they're here and the next day they're not. You're like,
what the heck? You know, you know, you think it
can't happen to you, but it can. So you know, love,
you know, keep the ones that are close to you closer,
and like I said, keep the faith and then tell

(45:12):
the ones you love you love them every day, even
if you have to get tired. You have to get
tired of hearing it. You know, you're right, you hug
them and you love them and and yeah, man, so
tough tough situations. But anyhow, as far as the game,
I'm thinking I'm going to go with the thirty twenty Cowboys.
I think we've bounced back. Hopefully the additions, the additions

(45:34):
uh you know, of overshow, I don't know how much
they're going to play, probably limited snaps him in Revel,
but in the addition of quinn in and you know,
some of the defensive help that we're getting back, Hopefully
that's enough, man to get us starts with one, starts
with one, right, you know, get this one game first
under our belts man, and hopefully we get on a
roll man to you know, try to squeak back in
there and get back and you know, make a run.

(45:55):
But but that's it, man. But well, thank you, thank you,
thank you hanmer now and thanks for thanks kicking my
call and Cowboys touch.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
It there, you know. That's That's one thing I've kind
of been reminded of this week is that how you
know you didn't have to know that the player, you
didn't have to you know, when you see these things
when you watch the news, when you know the things
that happen, and it's not related to you, but but
you you feel for the family because you've already felt

(46:27):
something like that are very similar, and then it brings
back those emotions and feelings. And so I'm sure that's
the case for Mark, and and I'm you know, sorry
for your loss there and and everybody's kind of dealt
with with something like that too, which I'm sure things
like this has kind of brought brought that back up.
All right, we got one more caller, we got Greg
in Sacramentood.

Speaker 22 (46:52):
I'm doing well. I'm doing well. You know, I got
to be quick, So I just want to say, you know,
I've always been impressed with Cowboys. I think they're the
most knowledgeable fans, are one of the most nogele fan bases,
I think in the whole league, honestly. But what I
didn't know was was how much of like a family

(47:13):
we all are. You know, just the shows this week
they really impressed me. You know, I across the board,
like all the shows. I always listening to every single podcast,
So all the shows did a great job of, you know,
bringing up mental health and and you know, all that
part of it, but I mean this show in particular,
with these storyline fans, like I went on Twitter too,

(47:36):
and just just the amount of of you know, like family,
It just feels like a family. Yeah, like I I
you know, this is this whole thing with Marshall Newan
just really kind of brought everyone together. And I just
really appreciate how you and Chris have done it with
this show in particular, especially on Monday, you guys dedicated
you know, the whole show to just letting everyone kind

(47:57):
of talk about my sold talk about the struggles, and
I just I just want to say I'm already huge collage. Obviously,
I already love all the shows, but it just the
amount of camaraderie and family that I felt this week
has been pretty amazing. So I'm glad I got to
call in and just just say that.

Speaker 12 (48:16):
So it's been that's all I got.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
Yeah, thank you, thank you. That's you know what a
great call to end, uh to kind of wrap up
this show, wrap up this week. I don't know, I've
never done this before as far as like counting the
people that have called through the week. I mean I
count for the day, but not really different callers for
the week, not only thought of it on Tuesday when

(48:43):
I'm like, wow, every single person that called Tuesday was
different than who called Monday, and then it went into
that street kind of went into Wednesday. So I kind
of have kept it going. And a lot a lot
of new callers today that haven't called all week. I mean,
we started with thirty five different callers this week and
now we're at forty four. So when you think about

(49:05):
five shows and almost nine different average of nine different
voices per each show, forty four callers have called this
show this week. That's that's awesome. And and if you're
one of those that have called multiple times, thank you
for that too, because we love that consistency. But man,
forty four of y'all to call in a couple of

(49:26):
first timers, I think, but just everybody, you know, just
wanted to be a part of it, and I appreciate that.
I talked with my mom last night on text, and
she said that, you know, I saw that she had
a great point. She was like, this show has gone
to another level this week, and you guys are the
reason for that. You guys have took this show to
another level. And I couldn't be more thankful of it.

(49:49):
All that being said, we know what we're here to
talk about most of the time, you know, is football.
This we took some breaks with that and rightfully, so
hopefully we can get back to talking about a football
win on Tuesday. We won't have a show Monday. We'll
be in Vegas, but we'll be there. It'll be early Tuesday.

(50:11):
It'll be a late night for us, but it's okay.
Hopefully we can talk about a win and talk about
maybe how this Cowboys team can get going and maybe
go on a run here in the second half of
the year. For Chris Beam, I'm Nick Eatman. We will
see you next week on Cowboys Storyline.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
