how are y'all today?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Everson? How are you how your mentals?
Speaker 5 (01:53):
Man?
Speaker 6 (01:53):
My mentors are good. I just got people in my house.
They're fixing up my bathroom. We had a little incident there.
Still you are no, no, no, they're fixing up win
the process of it's still going. You gotta do the
floor in the bedroom first. Now, yeah it was bad,
but it wasn't bad enough to what the insurance we covered.
So next time I'm going to dinner, I'm on the dinner.
The next time I get some type of leak or something,
(02:16):
I'm gonna just let it all just mess up.
Speaker 7 (02:18):
That's both of us have experienced, right. You just need
something to get destroyed.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
That's it. And so now it's it's other than that. Man,
I got my birthday own. Baby, I'm represent I'm trying
to go to the game tomorrow. You gotta get them,
get to give me a ticket.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Oh good, I don't have a fighting farmer's shirt. But
I'm gonna go tonight if I get my work done.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Going to is a Lowisville. That should be That should
be a really good game. A lot of fire star
athletes all over the place on that field. Mickey, how
are you today?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
So I'm good, I'm good. I was somewhat shocked.
Speaker 7 (02:52):
So today in the in the morning news they had
the list. I guess yesterday was signing day for all.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
The other sports.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
I couldn't believe how many female volleyball players signed for scholarships. Yes,
there must have been over one hundred. It was unbelievable.
If you have a girl, get her to play volleyball.
They're handing out scholars What about you?
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Heck you you have many kids play volleyball.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
I don't know, no, no, no, no to my kids. The
only one got the athletic bug in my family is
my son. The rest of them they got their mother's feet.
Speaker 7 (03:29):
So you know. I used to say, back back in
the days, like the sixties, seventies and eighties, that the
Russians had the right idea. They made sure they're athletes
married and had kids, because you got all those athletic genes.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Oh yeah, the gems will get multiply, right. I did
everything based off looks.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
They got some good look all that athletic that look
that pretty.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
They look good, But I wouldn't say that I think
they have yeah, my wife's feet as well.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
I mean, man, I call college volleyball as well as
plenty of other college sports football, basketball, bas baseball, softball, lacrosse,
you name it, but it is. I interviewed just yesterday
coach Vopie for the University of Rights. She's been coached
there for twenty two years, and I mean the number
(04:31):
of women that have come through her program at Right's
obviously a great, you know, institution of university, but man,
they are phenomenal. So yeah, man, it's always always a
ton of female athletes going to get do they have do.
Speaker 6 (04:46):
They have any issues with volleyball versus basketball?
Speaker 5 (04:49):
What do you mean in regards to to.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
Women volleyball players and can if they got hops, they
have athleticism. I wonder if they have any issues of
uh competing for the same uh, you know athletes women's
basketball versus women's.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
And I think when you have an exceptional volleyball player
whether it's a middle blocker, outside hit or any position
like that. But I'm just saying, like any of those positions,
obviously you're on the radar a ton of good schools,
and like you know, if you USC U, c l A,
that's like top of the food chain when you talk
(05:27):
about volleyball, Olympic type stuff exactly. And so when you're
that good and you can go to school like that, nah,
they don't cross over basically competing like dual You know,
you may have those dual sport athletes, but nah, if
you're that good at volleyball, trust me, and you can
go to a.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
School like that.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
I'm old now and I can't remember my classmate's name,
but there was this lady. Uh she made the Olympics
from Bergner High School and she was part of the Olympics.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
I can't remember her.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
I was in the class with her sister when we
finally integrated back in the seventies and she was two
years older.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
What sport volleyball she made?
Speaker 6 (06:07):
She made the Olympics and volleyball. She went to Texas Tech.
If Bill was here, he checked out. She went to
Texas Tech and then she ended up in the Olympics,
and I will find that out.
Speaker 7 (06:16):
Before this, there was a couple there was another category
for scholarships beach volleyball.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Oh yeah, that's more fun, especially, that's right, that's more fun.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
So y'all won't talk about some football? Yeah, why not
talk about some football? What you got over there in
red pen, I'm sure you could have found I'm sure
you could have found a pin right now, I'm.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
Just gonna wear it out right when it's done, I'll
go back to blue.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Okay, because it's it looks alarming from here.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
It does.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Yeah, it looks like it looks if you are angry.
It looks as if you have a lot.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Of angry just right.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
These were from These were from I think Jerry's radio interview.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
These are more current.
Speaker 7 (07:02):
And you know, we got to listen to Brian Schottenheimer yesterday.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
By the way, I heard some of that on the
way home.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, that's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
He was still very solemn, but.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
Very revealing as he has been good, bad, whatever, And
I thought the the key thing and it has to
happen today. He said something to the effect, we're not
going to forget, but we got to move forward. And
I think that's sort of.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
What's got to do, he said.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
He said, yeah, he was thinking, Oh, we're not moving on,
we're moving forward.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
Yeah, yeah, I believe that's what said. I think that's
how we put it. And and it's true.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Right, yeah, you got it. You gotta you know, you
have to keep.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Keep bad as things are.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
This is a capitalist society. We got work to do.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
I mean, unfortunately, just the way it goes, I think,
and somebody said yesterdays, it's a blessing. I think they
say it's a blessing that we have something else to do,
something to help us.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
He said.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
We don't move on.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
We move forward. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, and you have to.
Speaker 7 (08:15):
I mean, things don't stop, and you've got to play,
and you know they don't give you a bereavement leave
in the NFL. So yeah, today will be the first
day of any football activities since they played the game
Monday night, right, So it'll be interesting to see the
(08:39):
atmosphere out there, how the guys get back into it.
You know, they're gonna have the coaching staff is gonna
have to work on pumping up the enthusiasm.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Hey, you got to play a game.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Yeah, you know, and practice today has to be good. Yeah,
it has to be good.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
And you know it's unfortunately.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
They'll feel for you, but they're not going to feel
sorry for you once you get on the field.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
So uh, it's.
Speaker 7 (09:02):
A it's a tough turnaround, but you got to make it.
And I was thinking, you, guys, tell me the last
two times something like this happened in the organization, they
had to play a football game next day. Is it
harder or is this harder that you didn't have? And
I thought he made a good point about it. It's
like we're stronger together, but we weren't together when this
(09:25):
happened because they were on the buy and everybody was
off until Monday.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Yeah, but he did point out that most of those
players were with their loved ones and yeah and family,
and so that was the maybe if there's a silver
lining in it, that may have been in I just
want to give kudos to the organization the way that
they've handled it, handled it with the players, isolating the
players from many outside questions and things. I just really
under the circumstances, you don't know how guys are handling it,
(09:52):
and what isn't for the outside media to dictate that
to the players, and so I know they've been very guarded.
There hadn't been a bunch of access as far as
keeping you know, media away from the players. I know
they didn't do a job for you, mickey, but as
far as you know, just keeping those guys.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
But they've done the right So today will be the
first day of player access. But from my understanding, and
they're not opening the locker room. They're going to bring
five guys out, five guys out tomorrow, one at a time,
and just kind of control.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
I mean, you know what's going to happen.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
The TV cameras are going to be in there, They're
going to be focusing on an empty locker. They're gonna,
you know, be focusing on guys sitting around and little
groups talking, and it's just not conducive. So yeah, I
think it's the wise thing to do. And the same
thing with Schottenheimer talking yesterday, you know, and he handled
(10:52):
it well. He opened it up with the opening statement
and then opening up to questions, and I don't think
he got a football question or a football question related
to what took place. It wasn't like, well what do
you think about overshowings? You know, playing his first Game
of the season or anything like that. But I'm sure
today probably get closer to little.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
I wouldn't want to. I wouldn't want to be the
media guy.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
That asked the stupid question, right, Yeah, I wouldn't want
to be that guy.
Speaker 7 (11:19):
Well, you know, I've done a couple interviews and I've
heard one I think it was maybe Jerry, and it
was almost like they were scared to ask the questions,
so they asked three football questions before they got to well,
how are things going? You know, And it's like, don't
bury the lead, right, I mean, that's what everybody's talking
(11:40):
about thinking about.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Uh, so you might as well just jump right in.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
You could do it gracefully and not like, you know,
just well what do you think happened?
Speaker 4 (11:50):
You know, anything like that.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
I heard that same interview and I really think those
they just didn't know how to handle the situation.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Then I thought maybe they were told don't ask me
too that the first.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Thing I thought I heard that too.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Well, you would have known something about that, right, I mean,
well they wouldn't. I signed anything like that without you
knowing about it, especially in this organization.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
But from listening as a person, it's like, why aren't
they ask And it happened to me yesterday. Is like
when they had me on, I assumed, okay, here we go,
and then they asked three questions before we got to
well how are things out at the start? You know,
and I'm going, well, okay, you could have answered that
first one time. I did one, and I basically brought
(12:33):
They didn't ask me, and I kind of brought it
up and I said, well, and now they're going to
have to move on from Marshawn Neal. And then they
opened up and asked It's like, it's okay.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
You know, it's so different these days when I love it,
I mean I love it the empathy that is exhibited
within this organization. We've had issues before, you know, me
as a player. That's certain things that have happened while
we you know, were teammates, and it just you know,
(13:05):
the organization back then, it just wasn't the same. It
just wasn't the same. That the society itself was different.
Back in nineteen eighty they you know, somebody had the issue,
Hey man, go handle that, you know, but the organization
didn't necessarily just you know, jump on board and show
(13:25):
the type of classes.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
That's showing right now.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
And that's just the way. It was not just this
organ this way. It wasn't in all of the society itself.
You know, sports really didn't didn't give that much to
grieving at that time. They let you grieve on your
own and we'll be here when you get back, something
like that. So I'm just glad things are different now
(13:49):
than they used to be back then.
Speaker 7 (13:51):
Well, and as the opposite way, just think if there
was social media in the seventies, eighties and nineties.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, oh wow, Yeah, that.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Walls cringes at the thought of social media in the
seventies and eighties.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
Gramlet.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
I remember somebody somebody asked it.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
It was an interview and it was maybe I don't know,
ten years ago or some somebody asked Charlie Waters, you know,
what's what's the difference now and then whatever? And he said,
So the seventies in Dallas, if you had been here,
he goes, if I hadn't gotten married, I think I
probably would have killed myself having parties in fun and
(14:38):
about because those guys were.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
The dude that's right, that's right.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
And they were making a lot more money, even though
it wasn't a lot comparatively than anybody else in town.
Speaker 6 (14:48):
And you kind of give it the wild wild West
type of feel to it as well, because you know.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
You want a Super Bowl, Laura, I mean, come on.
Speaker 6 (14:56):
It was so many people that was kind of involved,
you know, in the Shenanigans, so to speak. Sometimes you
know people that working in the organization was right there
with you. Sometimes a cop might you know, you know,
give you a little given a slide or something and
because of something that you may have, you know, exhibited.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
So no, that's those old days.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
I'm not gonna let y'all do it. I ain't gonna
let y'all go. I ain't gonna let y'all go. I'm
gonna stop. We're gonna take a left turn right now,
because you know, speaking of old school, and he's a
he's an old school style of a coach. And just
turning the page to the Las Vegas Raiders, Pete Carroll
his teams, although they are two and seven, he has
(15:40):
put he is trying to put his imprint on this team.
But one thing that is abundantly clear about Pete Carroll
and the teams that he coaches, he has a style
and it doesn't matter if it's in college or at
the pro level. It is a thing that you could
pick up each and every time you see these guys,
and it is how physical they are, and we expect
(16:03):
for this to be a physical matchup.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
I don't know about you.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
This is I look at this as a trap not
to look at the record, you know, not to look
at the record that of them being two and seven.
How do you feel after evaluating the Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
No, I hadn't value evaluated them much, but the last
two games that I saw that they played, the last
game itself, it reminded me more of a Pete Carroll
team than any other time during this early this young season.
Watching the way Gino was was able to move in
(16:38):
the pocket, the way he was able to add live
a lot in that last game. That's the best game
I've seen them play this year. And I haven't really
watched them. I didn't see their first two games, but
that's the best game that I've seen Gino play. It
was their old AFL style of football. You know, you're
putting the ball in the quarterback's hands. You're gonna put
(16:58):
those balls. Put the ball in their quarterback's hands and
let him make some plays, and that's the way Gena
was trying to do it. He did a good job
of it for the most part last week. But uh,
this team has a lot of work to do. Uh.
Seems like they're trying to get it together starting on
the middle part of the season. Other than that, I
(17:19):
look at this as a game that we feel that
we can control from the beginning to end.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
That's the way I look at this game.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
That's the way I think the Cowboys are going into
this game, that they they should have control of this
game from beginning to end.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Mickey anything eyebrow raising to you them holding Denver to ten.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Which was, if you're going to put in perspective, thirty
four fewer points than the Cowboys game. I'm playing Denver
thirty four. But again they're struggling to score. They've lost
you know, what is it three straight now and in
the last eight games there one in seven they won
(18:01):
the opener and then everything kind of went downhill.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
But you're right when I remember his teams from Seattle, Uh,
they were really physical.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
And I thought that was his calling card.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
Now I don't know if that was the type of
players they had or you emphasize that part of the game.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
But you know, the old legion.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Of if you have the legion of doom, then yeah,
boom boom, yeah you got you can do a lot.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
And I'm sure that's what he wants to do there.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
But you know, reading some of the stuff in the paper,
the he got a little irritated when somebody asked him,
are you playing for next year? And oh, don't ask
a coach that, right, because they're playing for today, right,
no matter what. Because they were talking about how they
needed to play more of their young guys.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Uh, and it's like, no, we're playing to win.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
They have a lot of injuries.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
They they're going to.
Speaker 7 (18:59):
Be without both of their starting guards.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
So that's right from the start.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
We talked a little bit yesterday about Jackson Powers. Johnson
he's on I R, so he's out, and then uh,
the other guy, Dylan parum Uh is out, so they're
gonna back him up with a veteran guy that you
know hasn't played all that much, Alex Kappa.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
And then the.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
Other guy, Will Compton is an undrafted practice squad player
in his second year. So they got they got some
problems there in the middle.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
So we're gonna We're gonna test our boys.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Out see if they see how the winning go q
R go.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Hit the ground running.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Absolutely, So you talk about physicality, That's why that's where
I'm looking. I'm looking at the matchup in the trenches
because they are compromised at the offensive line, and with
the addition of Quinn Williams. That's why, you know, we
talked about it. We talked about a little bit yesterday.
But the fact that you believe with your front and
(20:03):
them being compromised, and that addition that you should have
the upper hand in this game. And oh, by the way, again,
Ashton gent I believe five hundred or so yards on
the season, but still is one of those running backs.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
That finds a way to fall forward.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
And that's the only thing about him as a running
back in his running style is they're going to give
him the ball enough to try and get him in
the rhythm to try and break down this defense. And
you've played against some running backs like that, guys that
just keep coming over and over again.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
But most of those guys were huge, and that's what
I had to deal with back.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
In the day.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
Now you have the small more more, you know, nifty
shifty guys that they are out there these days. As
far as I'm saying, this offensive line is going to
have their work cut out for them, and I'm looking
forward to that. I'm looking forward to us controlling the
line of scrimmage from a defensive standpoint. This if we
don't control the line scam And I know these guys
(21:03):
are new, but I can't keep giving excuses because I'm
gonna hold even Flu's foot to the fire. I'm gonna
hold them to the feet to the fire because I
know it's just the first game for these guys to
be together. I know they're going and playing against the
unfamiliar team this off. This defensive line should be a
(21:25):
little bit more comfortable going into this game than they
have felt the entire season. Even if you want to
look at the Philadelphia game after the storm, and.
Speaker 7 (21:36):
I don't think you should expect anything different than Quinn
Williams playing like Quinn and.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Williams Lloyds Wilson playing like Logan.
Speaker 7 (21:45):
These guys aren't new to this, right, That's right, And
you know I know they this will be their first
practice with the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
But having said that.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
So what, yeah, Mickey, if you just said. If you
said these guys aren't new to this, stay true to this,
I would just ran out of it. I thought that's
what you were about to say. Well, we're gonna take
our first break. We're gonna take our first breakout of
the work, take our first breaking. One week come back,
we're gonna talk about this Cowboys running game. We've got
to get it back on track. Coming up next on
(22:16):
mix Shots.

Back in action here at the SWBC Mortgage Studios for
mixed shot some Heck Maharrison along with Everson Wallas and
Mickey Spagnolan. Before we went to break, we were talking
about Gavonte Williams, who is projected to have a thirteen
hundred yard season. But the Cowboys offense either defenses has
(25:16):
figured out something about this running game offensive line, as
Nate Newton is talking about when he sat in with us.
But something's happened to the running game. It isn't quite
as effective as it was as the season started. So
in this game versus the Las Vegas Raiders, what are
your expectations from the running game ever since?
Speaker 6 (25:36):
But as far as our running game is concerned. I
don't know much about the Raiders defense at all, but
what I know is what we need to do as
a team, And I think we need to start worrying
about what the other team has and start worrying about
what we do as our philosophy. Stick to our philosophy
of running the ball. I think we still need to
(25:56):
be a run team first. Well like that, it makes
things so much comfortable for our passing game. We complimented well,
but you can see when we don't run the ball well,
we don't pass the ball well. That's just the way
it is, not well enough to win a ball game.
So I'm not worried about numbers with offense. I'm worried
(26:18):
about winning with the entire team itself.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
Well, to expand on your point about Williams being thirteen
hundred yards at one point, he was on pace for
fifteen hundred yards.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
So that's that's coming down.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
How much it's.
Speaker 7 (26:36):
Come down, And I think the offensive line there's nothing
wrong with him.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
They've got to play better.
Speaker 7 (26:44):
Yes, And if you look at what the Raiders you mentioned,
what they did, what they've done so far defensively, they
gave up forty one points to the Commanders, forty points
to the Colts, thirty one to the Chiefs when they
got shut out, thirty to Jacksonville, and then go figure
ten to Denver in one. So all those other games
(27:07):
obviously they lost. And my guys on the fan threw
out a stat today that the Raiders have gone twenty
nine straight games without scoring.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
More than thirty or scoring thirty points or more.
Speaker 7 (27:24):
And I went back and looked and it's basically twice
in forty three games that they've scored more than thirty points.
And one time it was sixty three against the Chargers
in twenty twenty three, so that was the last time
they had scored more than thirty points. So they haven't
(27:47):
been that productive offensively. They did score twenty nine against Jacksonville.
I think that was an overtime loss. They got beat
thirty to twenty nine.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
That was recent.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Yeah, that was two games ago.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
That's when I saw Geno running around back there acting
like he was MVP.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yeah, he has a tendency to do that for the time.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
He'll put a cape on for one game, one night only,
and he'll turn back Wilson, you know for sure. And
the challenge for me offenseive for this offensive line is
opening up those holes in the A and B gap
because we've seen Javonte Man when he is effective coming
downhill on the linebackers safeties, they.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Don't want to see this guy.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Something changed, though, And I know it's been kind of
a musical chairs at the offensive line position. And I
even heard had heard an interview with the offensive line
coach talking about that there is competition on the offensive
line with with Terrence Steele. Well got me to thinking,
with Nate Thomas and Terrence Steele, if you're going to
do a rotation for those two guys, this may be
(28:54):
the wrong game to try that in because of Matt Max.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
Crosby, Well, he may dictate if not a rotation, if
you have to make a change, this.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Is we can't put up with this.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
You've got to play well and and you know, don't
give Geyton a pass either. He needs to improve. Also,
both tackles need to improve. I think the tough thing
is and and maybe the buy has helped. But Tyler Smith,
your best offensive lineman playing through I believe it's a.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
Knee thing there is.
Speaker 7 (29:31):
You know, he had been limited in practice for the
previous two games and he's he's trying to muscle up
and hang in there. I'm doing this for the team.
But I don't think he's fully.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
He is he. I mean, he just doesn't look like
Tyler Smith. He doesn't look like him. I think.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
I think Nate pointed out that, you know, on the
offensive line, when you're doing have something, you can go
two plays with yourself, right, and then the third play
it's like, oh what.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
You might get? He might get blasted. Yeah, you might
get blasted.
Speaker 7 (30:04):
And so that's that point that's got to hopefully they
you know, he improves, that's what they're counting on, but
your tackles have to play.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Better, especially in this game.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
And continue the point about Max Crosby defensively, like right
before the trade deadline. Obviously trade deadline is gone now,
but everybody around here around the media, that's what you
were thinking, right, But you you were thinking that, but
you got an opportunity to watch him as a player,
and you know what he does at that defensive line
(30:38):
and Dak Over the last couple of weeks, especially in
Arizona the Denver game, he was getting touched up.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
A lot and that's and he was having to run
a lot too.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
And you don't want that.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
And it's not like not on design runs and bootlegs
like that, but this is one of those games that obviously,
if you do have your running game going, that kind
of pushes that defense from pinning their ears back because
you stayed balanced. And then maybe just maybe that also
preserves your defense as well by keeping them on the
(31:10):
sideline drinking GATORA.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
I think I would be foolish enough to test Crosby.
I would be foolish enough to let him know we're
not afraid to come your way. I would I would
be that, I would be that player, I would be
that coach. But also with Shady, I think he has
an idea of the plays that he's gonna run to
(31:32):
somehow keep a Crosby at bay uh, misdirection, try and
get outside, you know, some type of things that you know,
deception is some deception type of plays that would keep
him on.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
His toes because he's not I know, he's not the.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
Only player on that defense, no good, but he is
definitely at this point the one that's making the plays.
Oh yeah, he's the difference maker on that defense. If
they're gonna stop any if they're gonna stop a team,
it's gonna come because the Quasby's playing his ball.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
He's playing what he's supposed to be doing.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Somebody asked me what side does he play on? I
said both, they go What do you mean whichever side?
Speaker 5 (32:09):
He's everywhere?
Speaker 4 (32:10):
He's in everywhere weakness.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Yes, both of the o ff not just one.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
That is the kind of I mean.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
I call him one of those circle, highlight and underline players.
You better come in watching out for him. But it's
in the secondary too. I start off talking about the
running game, but the secondary. You don't have any names
over there in the secondary per se that I say,
old man, you better watch out about it. This this
this guy like you did at Denver, like the secondary
(32:43):
maybe in Arizona as well, with some of the names
that you have over there.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
This should be a game.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
I try to give y'all the courting analogy with GP
that didn't work. But I'm just I'm just gonna say it.
This should be the game to where you force it.
You make sure that George Pickens is involved early and
often in your game plan, because I don't see anybody
over there that is remotely close to the same ability
(33:12):
that you have in George Pickens.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
To me, when you when you look at our combo,
I look at and I'm not to diminish Pickings at
all on what he does. But to me, Pickens is
like the jab. If I'm a boxer, he's a jab.
He's gonna, he's gonna, he's gonna tat. He's gonna tattoo
you all night long, Yes, sir. But then when you
want to knockout, you know what to do. Then you
(33:33):
know where you go. You're gonna rap them up over
here with ceedee Lamb on the other side.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
But we have to have time to do that.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
But that has to be allowed by our front line.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
And also we have to run the ball first so
that you don't put yourself in obvious passing situations. That
happens a lot with the Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
When we lose.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
It's third and ten, y'all, because we didn't do anything
on first and second down. It's third and twelve, y'all
because we just have a penalty on second down. We
didn't do anything after the second down, and now we're sitting.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Up here at thirty twelve.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
You can't put yourself in a position of a peril
when you're playing in someone else's building, especially a dome,
especially a dome. We've shown as a team that were
susceptible to false many faults. We were susceptible to a
lot of excuses on why we lose ball games. We
(34:29):
got to start taking out the excuses. And that starts
to me guys with winning in the trenches.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
So do you think they're they're gonna lock up City
Lamb with Kaiyu Blue?
Speaker 5 (34:42):
Kelly Kyu Blue? Is that how it says his name?
Speaker 4 (34:46):
Two words?
Speaker 6 (34:46):
Two words blue blue? But I can I can respect
the name, but he better have help. That's how That's
how they're gonna That's how they're gonna do anything. They're
gonna Once again, if it's an obvious passing seat situation,
your safety will be used strategically to help double team
these guys on the outside. So that's why our running
(35:07):
game has to be good. To put yourself in an
obvious passing situation and you're away from home in that dome,
that can be an issue. It will file up the
other team and sometimes we become disheartened offensively and defensively.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Mickey, what have you thought about Brian Schottenheimer as a
play caller.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
I think I think he's been awfully good.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
He can't compensate if that offensive line doesn't play back,
cannot But I thought until these last two games, I
thought he has managed his talent and was able to
identify what the other team had talent like the team.
(35:54):
But again I thought his self scouting was really good.
And if you look at his history as a plate caller, uh,
he hung his hat on running the football. There was
a couple of years and it was with the Jets,
I think also Seattle they led the league in rushing
or right at the top, and most of the years
they were in the top ten in rushing yards. So
(36:17):
that's what he wants to do. And I like the
fact that he doesn't call plays to call plays. He's
calling plays for players like, Okay, I'm calling this play
for CD Lamb or I'm calling this play for George
Pickers because I think I got.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
It, wanted that around here all the time.
Speaker 7 (36:37):
Don't just call your favorite, right, And so I thought
he had was doing a very good job of that,
but a lot of it was based.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
On the ability to run the football.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
Okay, so where are we? Who is our starting line?
I don't know if so, I.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Mean they're going, you know, if they're doing their five starters,
if they've seen it's been Geidon, Tyler Smith, Cooper bebe Uh,
Tyler Booker, and Terrence Steele, so.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
They really that's our strongest, that's our strongest lineup.
Speaker 7 (37:11):
And and and then the the previous game they were
they were given Nate Thomas snaps at right tackle. Uh
and until Geyiton went out, what did do you have
a concussion?
Speaker 10 (37:25):
Concussion?
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Right?
Speaker 7 (37:27):
And then he got forced to play left tackle. I
thought he did. Okay, he wasn't great, but yeah, I
mean there's a reason why they were giving him first
team snaps in right tackle in place of Terrence Steele.
And and you know Steele is still uh his his
(37:47):
strength is run.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Blocking and and and past blocking.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
It was always his weakness and teams have seen that,
and you know, one on one they take advantage of it.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Uh, So you know, give him help.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
I was gonna say, let's give him some hell, let's go.
Speaker 7 (38:02):
Two tight ends, you know, and just say okay. And
if you noticed a lot of times when they go
to tight ends and they were kind of uh tipping
their hand a little bit. But instead of Scoon Maker
as the second tight end, it's been span Ford. Yeah,
and that's why they were able to throw to him
(38:23):
whichever game for a touchdown, because they're thinking, well, this
guy's not leaving the line Scrimmers, right, he's six eight.
Speaker 5 (38:30):
Throw it up to him, Williams.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Let's take out.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Let's take our final speaking of six eight, let's take
our final break. And when we come back, we will
introduce Bill Jones back into the fubble here and in

Speaker 10 (41:26):
Yeah, he decided to join you.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
We left you a few minutes. We left you a

Speaker 12 (41:30):
Come on, man, I can recap the taping of the
Coaches Show, which you know what I one of the
things that I love about this coach is that he, uh,
he's hands on on everything that happens in the building.
And I've done the Coaches Show with Mike McCarthy. I
did it with Jason Garrett and they were great. You know,
(41:51):
they show up the show up, answer questions.
Speaker 5 (41:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (41:54):
But Coach Schottenheimer is one that he uh, he's got
input on what we talked about, what he wants to
talk about, which helps me out a lot. And even
and especially this week with the tragic passing of Marshan,
we in advance decided, okay, how much time is appropriate,
(42:14):
you know, because I mean they're going out on the
practice field right now and we're getting back to Yeah,
that's right, And so we spent the first segment of
the show talking about Marshan. And you know, he was
so great yesterday talking about Marshan at the press conference,
and Mickey was at the memorial service as well. But anyway,
and you know, at the end of the show, he's
got his shot, he's shot for.
Speaker 10 (42:36):
The week and he and.
Speaker 12 (42:38):
So it's just I think it I get a little
glimpse doing the show what he's like, and then that's
takes up five minutes of his day or whatever. We
wait for twenty minutes, but it takes five minutes. It
gives you a glimpse of how he wants things run
throughout the organization, you know, which I really appreciate so.
Speaker 6 (42:58):
Well hopefully, well hopefully, but he's doing a great job.
Now this is extremely sensitive time, and you know there
has to be a timing with it. You can only
grieve so long, and we talked about earlier. Now we
got to get back to work. That's just the way
it is. Nate Newton says, it's fortunate that we have
to get back to work because now we have something
(43:20):
instead of dreading or having to deal with what I
just had to deal with.
Speaker 12 (43:24):
So yeah, in this case, what they're looking at. Okay,
this is the first time. You may have already talked
about this, This first time. They're on the practice field
since the game we could go Monday, and so that's
ten days and now they've got three days to get
ready to go play on Monday night. And you're not
only playing on Monday night. Then you're playing three games
(43:45):
and eleven days and four games and eighteen days, and
so it's coming in a hurry at you and.
Speaker 7 (43:49):
Not only Monday night, Monday night National TV.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
So yeah, you better be ready.
Speaker 7 (43:58):
Guys are proud, right, you know, no one wants to
go out there and embarrass them, so you would hope
that's the motive.
Speaker 4 (44:05):
Extra motivation.
Speaker 7 (44:08):
I think the other motivation we talked about it early
is you know, you're playing for the memory of your teammate,
to play like he would want you to play. Because
people you know.
Speaker 5 (44:17):
I was.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
I was talking to.
Speaker 7 (44:19):
The female security guard that's usually out and she had
said something and I said, well, did you know who
he was? And she goes, I don't know a lot
of the players. I don't know how closely I follow him,
but I know who he was, right, And I said,
(44:39):
because he smiled. She goes his smile and he was
always nice and said alwe And it was like it
wasn't you know all the things people were saying about him,
this is the little security guard and he stood out
to her. Yeah, so he affected a lot of people.
So you know, I think, shot, He's right. We don't
(45:01):
want to move on, but we got to move forward.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
There's no playbook for this.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
And I think you guys were you were talking about this, Mickey,
and just watching the way that the interview went, press
conference went yesterday and listening to Shady, you realize there's
a real human aspect that he's showing in this where
I'm only I'm used to seeing coaches be kind of
that stern, you know, leader of men, not showing a
(45:27):
whole lot of emotion, but in a situation like this,
his ability to be transparent with how he's feeling. I
think that's that's just something that again that nobody wants
to deal with a situation like this, and then in
the face of being a leader. Also, I just like
the way that he's handling it, handling everything.
Speaker 7 (45:45):
Well, he's handling it like he's one of them. Yeah, right,
because that's the way the players are feeling. I remember
when DApp talked about his brother committing suicide and he
was really open and really real, and somebody out there
in the national media criticized him, the quarterback shouldn't be
weak like that.
Speaker 4 (46:06):
You've got to be shocked stupid, right. I heard it,
and I was like I wanted to punch the TV.
Speaker 7 (46:12):
Yeah, you know, it's like, no, he's being real, And
I think that's that's.
Speaker 5 (46:17):
That's kind of what we had to deal with back
in the eighties, that kind.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Of talk right there, right, Yeah, that.
Speaker 5 (46:23):
Kind of been sensitive talk.
Speaker 6 (46:25):
Yeah yeah, and you know those are the main guys
who are the cowards, So yeah, we don't even deal
with that. But you talked about how uh three like
the time that they've had these number of days they've
had versus playing a game. Right away. I've been trying
to answer that question. I don't know if I could, Yeah,
(46:46):
I think I would. I think playing right away would
be tougher. Just of course I hadn't gone through it,
but it seems like playing right away would be a
little bit tough.
Speaker 7 (46:57):
We were talking about the other two deaths before games
with Marcus Paul and Jerry Brown, and they had to
play next day games up.
Speaker 6 (47:08):
He was asking which would be tougher, and I would
say playing right away.
Speaker 5 (47:12):
It seemed like that would be the toughest way. I couldn't.
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (47:17):
Just just for looking at it from the outside, this
is good because I see how this is being handled.
You know, having that time, you know, being looked out
for commiserating all of that.
Speaker 5 (47:31):
You know, you have time to do that that that's
not a quick thing.
Speaker 6 (47:34):
Yeah, but having to play right away kind of hard
to get all of that together and play a game.
Speaker 5 (47:42):
Did they win those games?
Speaker 7 (47:44):
They won the walk off field goal. I don't remember
what happened that Thanksgiving with Marcus.
Speaker 13 (47:53):
Paul twenty twenty. It wasn't good. Probably yeah, yeah, right, yeah,
so Bill, we had it up. We had a good show.
You know, we did it.
Speaker 10 (48:09):
Here's what I will say, heckma, what's up? I would
like my seat back.
Speaker 12 (48:14):
I bet you would behind my left shoulder over here,
I mean your seat.
Speaker 10 (48:18):
Okay, I can't see what the monitor.
Speaker 4 (48:21):

Speaker 12 (48:23):

He probably you probably feel the same way, doesn't he.
You think you got his good side or his bad side?
Speaker 2 (48:35):
It's Everson Walls, man, no matter.
Speaker 4 (48:39):

Speaker 5 (48:40):
Let's do this. Let's do it.
Speaker 6 (48:41):
