Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Fitting In with Kate Richie podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Do some ugly scenes out of LA over the weekend
as riots continue. Look, this has all started after there
was some heavy protests too, because Trump said that all undocumented.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
What what would he call them? This is the thing.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
These people have been there for a very long time
and lived America now and because they don't have their documents,
they are getting booted out. So this was the immigration
raids they were protesting against.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
That it was, it was. It was silent at the start,
and then it got out of control.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Well, to think that they were going into schools to
find people that needed to be removed as one of
Trump's declarations as he came in as president for the
second time. I mean, it's unbelievable to think that you
could walk into a school and families that have been
working in LA and the USA for a long time
and say go back to Mexico.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Really confronting.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
So the other thing is too, he and Trump deployed
two thousand National Guard troops into the city without permission
from Gavin Newsom We're too is the Californian governor. Governor,
so this is an illegal act. So Gavin Newson came
out and said that Donald Trump should be arrested for this.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yeah, he said, well, come and arrest me. If you're
going to arrest anyone, coome and arrest me. It's full
it's out of control.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Ash.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
If things settled down at all at this stage over there, it's.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Afternoon, Yeah, Look, things are a lot more peaceful today.
People are still protesting, but the scenes are a lot
more peaceful. It will be interesting to see kind of
what unfolds throughout the day though, because we are now
hearing reports that a full marine battalion, which is around
five hundred marines, have now been mobilized. So this really
marks another escalation, I guess by the Trump administration. Like

(01:47):
you said, we he already mobilized the National Guard, and
that really sparked a lot of violence scenes on the
streets of LA.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Did you hear what he was doing? Trump? He rocked
up to UFC three six. He's going to say, playing golf.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
He went to you while this was all happening. He
deployed two thousand troops, like Ash just said, from the
National Guard, and then he rocked up to UFC to
watch the fights, shook the hand of Joe Rogan, you.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Don't want to miss the UFC.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
I mean that's the fights will settle down after you've
burned enough cars and let enough flares off, But you
don't want to miss the UFCA.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
What about the Channel nine? Lauren Thomas, This was.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Really confronting because in the footage you see the the
police of the riots squad actually turn his pistol to
where she is and deliberately targets her where she is
then shot with a rubber bullet.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Have listen to this hour is the standing off?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
This situation has now rapidly deteriorated, the LAPD firing rubber
bullets and protesters.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Moving them on through the heart of Lauch. She can
hear the cameraman reacting on her behalf, but you should
see that footage where he literally.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Lines her up.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
She's at an intersection where it's heavily guarded with police
in right gear and right horses as well, and then
he turned and goes bang and she gets the fright
of her life.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Does She's clearly amongst a media pack, though there are
cameraman on either side of her, so it's she's obviously
in the thick of it, but there was clearly a
media pack there as well.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Does it hurt Tom because I know we read Rob
in the office.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
Lot more painful things happening here, guys, But how do
you get a welt?

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Well? And I think you can.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Afterwards you could see I think she showed in some
other footage that the giant giant red mark. It looks
so sore.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
My god. So where do we go to from here? Ash? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Look like I said, the full Marine battalion. Hearing reports
that they've now been mobilized, so I guess that'll really
just add to the National Guard that have already been deployed.
Scenes are pretty peaceful at this point in time. It
is in the afternoon over there in LA, so we'll
wait to see what transpires. But we have also seen
some protesters move into Trump Tower as well. They were

(04:15):
also protesting these anti ice protesters. They've now been moved
out by police, so we are starting to see this
kind of action in other states as well.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
All right, Thanks Ash?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
