Speaker 2 (00:25):
Rogers back throws right crossing pattern. This is complete and
Roman Wilson's scurrying into the end zone straight up the
middle of the field when he caught that slant to
the right and zips in for his second touch out
of the year.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
All right, that's our number two started off with optimists
coming on in. It's the power hour here inside the
locker room, and you know, just directing and GETSU chopping
up this game from last night and not a lot

(01:01):
of bright spots in it. You know, saw a stagnant offense,
saw a tired defense by the end, and just you know,
and overwhelming, you know, influence of will by the Chargers
to beat the Steelers in front of I would argue
a Steelers home game, yep. Right, we had over fifty

(01:24):
percent of the stadium was black and gold in there
last night. And there's a Steelers awayte slash home game,
and you know, fans, fans were hoping and wishing, I mean,
they were staying long even when the game seemed out
of hand, to show their support of their favorite team.
And you know, we just did not get the job done.
The team did not get the job done last night.

(01:46):
And we're kind of breaking down all the different elements
that what could have been and what actually happened, and
it never came to fruition.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
So at the before Optimus made his appearance, ye, we
did hear the Roman Wilson touchdown. That was our Steelers
drive of the game. Max Pickings were slim for Steelers
drive of the game. That wound up being our Steelers
drive of the game because we needed a Steelers drive

(02:18):
of the game presented byur neighborhood Ford Store. The F
one fifty is the official truck of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
That was it, Max, That's our drive of the game.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Other than that, it would have been the Boswell fifty
nine yard or yep. Yeah, we literally a mask like
I think three or four yards on that drive and
Boz kicked it from the bolt at the fifty yard line,
you know, or actually beyond that. I take that back
beyond that fifty yard line to get the job done.

(02:48):
So or they were right at the forty nine. I
mean I'm trying to think of it. Yeah, right at
the forty nine. So therefore they were they made it
to the forty three essentially. Yeah, that's what it was. Okay,
you know, trying to do the math because what the
physical kick is versus where the last scribbage is. So yeah,
I mean you're almost you know, on that yardage where

(03:09):
Boss is kicking, is kicking the ball from so and
then of course that got matched by Cameron Dicker, the
most accurate kicker in NFL history. He also matched Boz's
effort and kicked the fifty nine yard completed as well.
So yeah, it was that or the Roman Wilson touchdown
and Robert Wilson touchdown equals more points. So therefore that's

(03:31):
what got the drive of the game.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Eight plays, twenty five yard drive, one fifty seven. You know,
I'm looking at the drive chart from last night, and
just what a killer that that pass was on a
third and six and we've you know, it was in
a way reminiscent to me of that floater by Jordan Love,

(03:55):
you know, the long play and that there just didn't
appear to be anything there. There was good Carridge downfield,
and yet the Packers made a play, and that was
to get them back in the game. The Chargers made
to play, and that was when the Steelers were trying
to get back in the game. Was still fifteen to
three at that point. You know, if you can force
a three and out, you've still got a chance to

(04:16):
sort of win a game in a conventional way. I mean,
you're watching these games on full max and you're thinking, Okay,
you're looking at the clock, you're assessing the timeouts. Is
there enough time to go on a normal drive, you know,
a six minute You know, if a six minute drive
is an average long touchdown drive, mixing the run, mixing
the pass, not go and hurry up?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Can you do that?

Speaker 2 (04:38):
And then you know, force a three and out, get
the or a short drive, get the ball back and
at least, you know, maybe a two minute drill to
tie it up or take the lead. To me, that's
like a conventional way to win a game. And then
there becomes okay, we're gonna we're gonna need more than conventional.
Something extraordinary's got to happen here. We need a punt

(04:58):
return for a touchdown, kickoff return for a touchdown, so
that you know, you kick it off, you run a
kickoff back. Now you're back to square one, right because
they okay, yeah, they scored when we couldn't afford them
to score. But we just scored in eleven seconds, so
we're back to square one. And you know, the steerers
with that pass to McConkey. Now, the students were kind

(05:20):
of into we need a miracle zone to be you know,
at the end of the third quarter, beginning of the
fourth quarter. They needed something remarkable to happen, and nothing,
you know again was we were examining words today. Nothing
markable happened, much less remarkable happened. Except the only markable
thing that happened was that drive of the game to

(05:41):
Roman Wilson's second career touchdown for him.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, that was the only re markable remarkable or recanted
recantable can.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
We say it that way? Recantable?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Uh but yeah, yeah, recountable, recountable, remarkable something AnyWho.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
I'm not gonna not gonna dwell on the No, it's it's.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
A muddle brain kind of day.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yeah, it is, it is, it is, and I think, uh,
remarkable plays that could have happened.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
How about that, Yeah, k just didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, the dk uh deep over route where Aaron got
fleshed out because of pressure to his left. DK was
running across to his right and across the field. Throw
you know, depending on the release angle of DK on
the coverage with molding in tow, could have been a

(06:47):
huge play.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
That's not by the way, that's not an easy play,
you know, that's a play.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Yeah, and that's what I say. It's not easy.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
But what could have been right, should have been exploded
to play kind of like did John new Smith play
last week to start the game for the Steelers. Yeah,
and the cross right, Yeah, the deep crosser for him
as well. That play has just not been there no
matter where you're at.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
You know, the the overthrow that led to the interception
for DK to get another first down and keep a
drive alive at a big explosive play that could have
been another one John new Smith, you know, once again,
you know, throw throw it. Throwing that pop pass that
just sailed on him that he kind of really extended

(07:40):
out to catch it.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
Bobbled and then he recaught it.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
And then the nose of the football, even though pinned
between his hand and.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
His forearm, you know, nose of.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
The football touches the grass even though it doesn't move.
Apparently the referee stalls something that we didn't. It wasn't
counted as a as a complete pass. The one that
really this was really stung, right Ginger, was the third
down play and.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
You had DK.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Going in there getting cut, you know, cutting inside at Derwood.
Jay's literally four arms shivering him in the chest to
knock him down. That is an obvious PI. Does not
get called. And that's another critical play. Two weeks in
a row, you know, to to two losses in a row,
not two games in a row, because they didn't have

(08:33):
any in the Colts game. But that doesn't happen either.
And so and then one more stuck you know, your
marching ricochet, Yeah, yeah, you go ahead.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, you see, you're marching down the field. Then the
one in which they went forward on fourth down. You
know it's second and six and you're in four down territory.
But you don't want to take away the ability of
Aaron Rodgers to make decisions at the line of scrimmage.
It looked to me and and I'm ninety nine point

(09:12):
nine percent sure they had a pitch play called to
the right to Jalen Warren. I think it was the same,
you know, similar play that they ran on first down
to pick up four yards. You know, you've got three
plays to get six yards, So let's run the football
with Jalen Warren and Rogers. Aaron Rodgers sees that he's

(09:33):
got DK Metcalf on the weak side, the non play side,
open for a slant and if he hits him, it's
a first down, or if he hits him, maybe it's
a touchdown right your ten yard line. Little pop DK
Metcalf running free, you know, in a little slant pattern,
and so Aaron Rodgers goes that way. Everybody flows right

(09:54):
because that's the play call. Aaron Rodgers sees Metcalf and
Bud Dupree instead of doing but Bud normally does, which
has come after the quarterback. He stands right in the passingly.
There's nothing Aaron Rodgers could do. But I don't want
to take that ability away from Aaron Rodgers. I mean,
in retrospect, you say, okay, well, you know, if it's

(10:15):
a young quarterback. Maybe tell that young quarterback, look, just
pitch it to Jalen Warren. We're calling the plays here,
and we have three plays to get six yards, right,
and you know, the running game was starting to groove
a little bit in that second half. But man, you
know what, if you get a touchdown there, Max, you
know you're at least you're still in the game. They're
just so many moments in this game in which the

(10:39):
students had an opportunity to either seize some control of
the game early, maybe begin to dictate to the Chargers
early on in this game what this game was going
to be like, and they failed to do that. And
then a lot of the other opportunities were just a
chance to get back into the game and they failed
to do that as well.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Yeah yeah, I mean but kind of tail of this
game should have, could have, would have, right, And it
was it was just something where you just you were
just hoping for the best.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
You were just hoping for something to turn. You were
hoping for.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Something to kick in, and like you said, somebody just
make a play. Somebody just do something to kickstart, you know,
this offense, something to kickstart the team's belief because you
saw it kind of melting away as the time was
ticking off the flock and you were just like somebody

(11:34):
just step in, whether it was a key play, and
the defense tried to do that. They got sacks, you know,
they massed their sack total of last week, you know.
And you can't be high off of only getting turnovers.
And I think TJ reiterated that last night in the
post game. We can't be a team that lives and
dies by turnovers. We have to be able to generate

(11:56):
our own, you know, you know plays and not worry.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
About sudden change.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
No, go toe to toe with the opponent and match
them point for point in doing it the old fashioned way.
And I think that's something the challenge was issued to
the to the defense by Jalen Ramsey last week. And
you know, they answered the call against the Colts and
then you answered it in parts.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
But the defense can't just act by themselves.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
You got to help them out and the way, even
if you're not going to score points too up time
of possession, right, you've got us to stay in some
drives to give them a break. Because what was the
number they finished with again, I can't remember the time
of possession.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
I can't.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
Fifty I believe was the total. I mean, yeah, think
about that.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
Fifty.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
That is just that's not cutting them.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Lists thirty seven. On the other side, you can't do
that to the defense.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
No, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I overshot it five.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
Yeah, exactly. I was hoping you. I was hoping you're
overshot it in a different way. Geez.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
And and there yeah. And by the way, one other
sequence that I thought was was really key to this game,
and one that you know it was again because of
the way the second half went, and and I think
you rightly pointed out, I totally agree. This is a

(13:29):
twenty five to three loss. You got beat, but remember
it was five three. How about that for an unlikely
score five to three, you get them to punt the
ball a little bit of help on a holding penalty, right,
they punted away, and you know, uh, you've got three
minutes left and you're trying to march down and at

(13:50):
the very least kick a field goal, very least kick
a field and you like your chances here. You got
You've got Aaron Rodgers, you know, and you know you
you run it for four yards on first down and
then on second down, you know, a bit of a
layered throw.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
You're trying to get the ball to DK. Metcalf had
a guy.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Running underneath him, inscribed with him, but underneath him overshot
picked off by Mickens at the forty eight. Mickins returned
to ten yards and now you know they're already in
Dicker range, right, they're already in range, the most accurate
kicker in NFL history. And but you don't hold them

(14:29):
to three there. They wind up scoring seven. And I
know that they didn't come out and make it a
double score in the second half, but from that moment on,
you know, once you get down two scores, now you're
chasing the game.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
You're the one. And the Studers tried to calm it down.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
They try to run the ball after they got a
stop in the first half, and you know, they had
a couple of runs, and then they get the interference
call that wasn't called, and then it's snowballed from there.
But that touchdown just gave the Chargers that arm length
arm's length kind of lead where they could just kind
of keep him out there. Okay, you're you're out there

(15:07):
and you're not getting any closer and I thought that
was a big one too, that you know, that interception.
I think of the three turnovers to Steelers had, that
was to me the most costly of the three turnovers.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Yeah, no, I completely agree. It was.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
It was just and it was an overthrow, right, so
it was it was an overthrow that you know, you
were just you felt like you're like, Okay, Aaron's a
little bit off.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
But he's gonna he's gonna kick it in the gear her.
He's gonna he's gonna.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
He's gonna make up for it, and we're gonna be
We're gonna be right back in this game. We're gonna
be right back in in the mojo and we're not
gonna have any issues.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
You know, we had some missfires.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Okay, cool, but he's he's gonna he's gonna get under wrap.
He's a professional quarterback and he's gonna get it. And
it just that was kind of microcoponts. He was just
a little bit off, and when you're a little bit off,
you know, bigger things can happen, and they did. And
that was one that was a just one where you

(16:15):
just kind of put your hands in your in your
face as.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
You as you bend over and he's just like, oh no, and.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
He wishes he would have had that back right, And
I think that's where we were.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
We're like, oh.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Man, why couldn't I just sail out of bounds or
over everybody's head? But Mickeys was in the right spot
when that ball came to him. He didn't have to
make a play on it or anything. He had to
just almost like haul it in like a punt. Not
to say the ball went up and came down to
that angle, but I mean it hit him right in
the bread basket.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
And he caught it.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
And you know, DK was going up trying to make
a play on the ball like it was a fifty
to fifty ball. So that was the one that was
just was a backbreaker. But it wasn't still out of
reach at that point. No, it wasn't made it out
of reach. Was the ricochet Calvin Calvin Austin right to

(17:13):
Dante Jackson.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
That was the one that was then the ultimate. But man,
you man, you're.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
In desperation mode then, you know what I mean? Uh, yes,
every every one of them right like you were in
a you're in.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Back and forth mode. Okay, it's kind of ugly.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
They got a safety, we got a field goal, they
got a field goal. Okay, this is not the prettiest game.
Now wait a minute, now, oh they got a touchdown.
That's that's not good. And now okay, we need to
get back in the game. With the Calvin Austin one
and that one right through his hands. Calvin's normally so
sure handed. Yeah again, we it just ough. And and

(17:48):
by the way, you have a chance if you want
to to get your ugh into the locker room as well,

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Well, thank you very much for being with us inside
the locker room. Kind of a sort of a dreary game.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Last night, just nothing got going for the Steelers, and
you know, as Aaron Rodgers said, they just couldn't spy
find that spark of energy. So, uh, we've talked a
lot about that, We're going to continue to talk about it.
We're going to look forward to the Bengals. We have
lots of takes coming up throughout the course of the week.
Your takes available should you want to jump into the
locker room four one, two.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
Six. That's coming up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
So first it is time for our AFC recap, presented
by UPMC, the official healthcare provider and health plan of
the Pittsburgh Steelers. And so you know, we discussed this
on Friday. We've given Thursday night the Raiders at the
Broncos home game for the Broncos. Raiders not very good
and the Broncos, who have to be considered one of

(20:08):
the top teams in the NFL right now, squeaking out
a ten to seven wins. So again setting the tone
for you know, it wasn't a shocker. They didn't lose
the game, but it was it was an interesting weekend
in Germany. Max, we were up and at him six
thirty am. I have to admit I didn't catch kickoff
for that game. Colts and the Falcons, and the Colts

(20:31):
able to come from behind and find a way to
beat the Falcons. The Falcons came in, you know, came
into this game as I thought, you know, probably the
best three to five type of football team in the league.
A massive disappointment I think the Falcons this year, and
they gave the Colts a tussle, but the Colts won,
and the Colts are eight and two.

Speaker 6 (20:53):
Still sitting at the one seed, right, I mean, and
here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
The Steelers just beat that team. Yep, handedly handedly beat
that team.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
They gave a blueprint to the Falcons, and the Falcons tried,
but you know, the defense could not kick it into
a high enough gear.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
At the end of that game. It goes to.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Overtime, and you know Colts, I mean, Jonathan Taylor was
on a tear. It was watching it. I'm still in shock, like,
how did we beat them? And hold Jonathan Taylor to
forty five yards? Kinger forty five yards? He had it

(21:35):
one hundred and ninety nine more yards rushing in that game,
a WeDo to him.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
That's what the astounding thing is.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
I think that all that also makes it even more frustrating, right,
it was like, how did we do that?

Speaker 5 (21:53):
And then we did that last night?

Speaker 3 (21:56):
That's that's a frustration, indeed, But it also goes to
show you what this defense can do, what this team
can do. You can beat a squad as good as
the Colts said.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
However you want to.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Look at it, it might look the way you want
it might not have the names that you want on
that side, but that right there is the best team
in the NFL. Let's just soak that up. Soak it in.
The Colts have the best record in the NFL. Colts
have one of the best offenses in the NFL, and
we went toe to toe with them and beat them,

(22:33):
and so we have it in us. But it's not consistent.
And I think that's where the frustration is. When you
think about the Steels. We have the capability of going
toe to toe with the best and besting them, and
then we go and then we go in to play
a game where it gets really similar, really familiar, and
then we lose a game. Same thing with the Cincinnati games,

(22:55):
the same thing I feel about this one, Like there
was an opportunity here, at least in the Cincinnati game
we put up over thirty points, but like you said,
this one week, points were at a premium and we
could not sustain drives.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
And that's where the frustration is.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
It's like, we do, we do these great things, but
then there's no follow up the week after, and I
think that's where you know, it's it's kind of mildly
frustrating today especially, but this team has that capability, they
can go beat that type of team.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, and we'll get to the other top quality team
that they defeated. But here's one if you're looking for
and Mike Tomlinoy says, we're not seeking comfort, right, if
you're if you're seeking a little.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Bit of comfort. How do the Buffalo Bills a week after.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Pretty much manhandling the Chiefs, the Chiefs came back, made
it look closer than it was. But like, just like
last night, you know, we hey, twenty five to fifty.
It wasn't a two touchdown game. It was a three
touchdown loss. You got a touchdown late. Let let's be
honest with it. But you know, the Bills had a
two touchdown lead against the Chiefs. Chiefs made it, you know,
semi interesting at the end. Actually maybe even kind of

(24:10):
interesting at the end. Right, So you do that, and
then you're Buffalo and you go face just a really
bad Dolphins team and get absolutely smoked. I mean, they
got smoked by the Dolphins thirty to thirteen.

Speaker 4 (24:26):
Mac, How in the world.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Do you explain that didn't lose, didn't come out flat
and lose sixteen to fourteen.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
They got thumped thirty to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
And at one point, wasn't it like seventeen to zip
or sixteen to zip seen.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Sixteen nothing at the half?

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Yeah, sixteen nothing Jeeps Dolphins. No, there's no Tyreek Hill.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
They had a fire sail at the end of at
the the end of trade deadline, they traded away great
pieces and they came out and they absolutely took boots
to face on the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
The class of the AFC.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Right when we're thinking about the class of the quote
unquote AFC, it's Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills, Lamar Jackson,
the Baltimore Ravens and Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (25:27):
These are the guys. They're supposed to be in the
playoffs every single year, and they're supposed to be the
leaders that dictate everybody else's fate. And this Buffalo team
has done this on more than one occasion already this season.
You know, you think about the team we were just
talking about, the Colts and the Falcons. The Falcons did
the same thing to the Buffalo Bills. Remember earlier this year.

Speaker 7 (25:49):
Yep, and it's a sounding this is the parody of
the season is being is being shown on a week
and once again, Buffalo team that can go and show
you they can go beat the class of the AFC.
They beat, like you said, beat the Kansas City Chiefs,
so we could go and then you lose to the Dolphins,

(26:11):
who Mike McDaniels was, I mean on more than a
hot seat. I think he was on a nuclear seat.
I don't even know if that's the thing, but it
is now.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
You know, they were like, yeah, it's just we're just
biding time until we're gonna replace him.

Speaker 5 (26:24):
We fired the GM. I mean, wow, it was that.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
That was that was That was one of the more
astonishing ones outside of ours. That's probably one of the
more astonishing because at least our team had had a
winning record and they were they're fighting and they and
you know, they've been a very good team this season
that's had you know, that's had some some embarrassing losses,
but been a very good team. You can't say that
for the Miami Dolphins. And we know what everybody thinks

(26:51):
of the reigning you know, NFL MVP got taken down
by Tua in company.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Yeah, I mean yeah, yeah, like you said, the Chargers
are six and three football team. And you know, they
we kind of laid it out. You know, look there,
they're like, hey man, we get on the other side
of the break. And that gives you some motivation, some incentive. Yeah,
you got some injuries, but you know, and they they
are a good football team. They battled injuries all year long.

(27:20):
And you know, but the Dolphins, you know who knows.
So the Vikings and the Ravens. The Vikings had a
lead in this game. I thought the Vikings might pull
it off. The Ravens come back, and now we look
at this AFC North and the Steelers are one game
up on the Ravens, and the Ravens are brimming with

(27:40):
confidence right now.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
So that you know, your loss is.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Problematic from an internal perspective and also problematic from the
fact that the Ravens are roaring up behind you and
have now won three games in a row.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
Yeah, and that's putting it mildly.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
And like you said, this is a game you're hoping,
oh man, well we beat the Bike, maybe the JJ
McCarthy Vikings will be better and maybe they can they
can best them.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
It's in Minnesota, it's not in Baltimore. Maybe there's a way.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
To take a step back if you're if you're the
Baltimore Ravens from Lamar being back, but nope, this is
now what four wins in a row for them. They
started the season zero to five and now they're on
a four game win streak, and they don't show signs
of slowing down. Even when they were down in this game,

(28:35):
they still were right there, and like you said, eventually
they overtake the Vikings and they don't look back afterwards.
So yeah, frustrating, you got one game lead and you
still got two games against the Ravens left that you're
that you're gonna have to contend with. So, you know,
not not the way you want to trend, but hey,
this is what it is is football. If if I sy,

(28:57):
anything happens to make it to you who you're gonna be,
because right right, the Ravens are charging at the end.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
Yeah, three straight for the Ravens. By the way, so.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Twenty they did have yo, No, yeah, he won before
he got injured.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Yeah, the Jets beat the Browns twenty seven to twenty five.
Brown's up next for the Ravens. Cincinnati up next for
the Steelers the Patriots, and again here we go the
Patriots beat the Buccaneers twenty eight twenty three in Tampa.
If you were looking for a team that is ascending,
and now you know you're talking about them in Indianapolis

(29:38):
as eight and two teams, and you know you have
Denver right there, of course, right, So Denver is eight
and two. Yeah, they're eight and two. Indianapolis is eight
and two, and the Patriots are eight and two. And
the Patriots impressive twenty eight to twenty three win over
the Box that was a that was a you know,

(30:00):
I don't know if you can make it a statement
game in you know, your tenth game of the season
with seven more still to go.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
That was impressive.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
And by the way, there's the other team, another team
is Stews had beaten the students are beaten. Arguably the
top two teams in the AFC, the Patriots and the Colts, Right.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yeah, exactly. I mean this once again, you're just like,
what a weird man, we can do it. And both
of those teams five plus turnovers, both those seams five
plus turnovers in those games.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
What a strange Season's wow, strange season. How about the.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Texans were down twenty nine to ten to the Jaguars
twenty nine to ten going into the fourth quarter. Didn't
we see the Colts do this against Was the Colts
do this against the Giants? Was that it came back
in the fourth quarter?

Speaker 5 (30:56):
Yeah, uh huh.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
And the the Jaguars who are five and three going
into this game, and the Texans are kind of limping along,
and you know, the Texans still kind of like the
Ravens are dangerous. You know, again, I don't know, Look,
it's too early for me to worry about who you know,
what your record is in the conference. I mean we

(31:20):
point that out and that kind of stuff. But I
don't know whether I wanted the Jaguars or Texans to
win this game. But twenty six unanswered points in the
fourth quarter to beat the Jaguars thirty six to twenty nine.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
What a finish, Yeah, what a finish of the Davis
Mills Right, Davis Mills is set rushing for testdowns and
Will Anderson that big play at the end of the
game where the ball gets tipped and deflected right into him,
he runs it in for a pick six score. Just

(31:57):
like you said, this is the NFL season and we're
dealing with right, you know, you never know what's gonna happen.
But the Texas appeared to be dead in the water
moving forward and then no CJ. Stroud, he's out with
a concussion and your offensive line was has been battered
all season, and they found a way.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
They found a way to win.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
And like you said, Jacksonville looked like t know was
charging right on the heels of the Colts in the
AFC South race and it.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
Just you know, they fell apart at the end.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
And you know, the Texas is also back ack AFC
South champion team, so you knew yet they had the pedigree,
but they put it together in that game. And there's
something to be said about those division rivalry games. You
can't count them out because you know, these are games
they know you better than you think you know yourself
at times, and those games because there's that familiarity. It's

(32:54):
it's tough to beat teams consistently that play each other
twice a year enough to do and right there was
a private example.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
And so the Patriots who've won seven in a row.
And by the way, in case you're wondering, they take
on the Jets, they're at the Bengals, they take on
the Giants before they meet the Bills and Ravens in
back to back weeks. They have the Jets and Dolphins
later on. I mean, they've got a very very favorable schedule,
and they are two games clear of the Bills. In

(33:25):
the AFC East, the Dolphins and Jets still not a
factor in that one. In the AFC South, the Colts,
you know, with Jacksonville trying to stay one back in
the lost column because you know they've played one fewer
game in the Colts that blown lead to Houston. So
now the Colts in command two and a half games

(33:46):
up on Jacksonville. In the AFC South, the AFC West
is I talk about the Wild West. The Denvers, like
New England has won seven in a row, and they're
just a game up on the Chargers, and the Chiefs
still look in there. You can't ever discount the Chiefs
at five and four, And of course in the AFC North,
the Steelers at five and four, the Ravens at four

(34:08):
and five, and as much as you want to say
the Bengals are dead, they're three and six, just two
games behind the Steelers. Those two teams, of course meeting
coming up on Sunday. The Steelers have already lost to
the Bengals, right, so they're one and one in the division.
The Bengals are two and zero in the division. I mean,
when you've got four and five lost teams ahead of

(34:29):
you and your six loss team, you're not out of
it yet. So we will be looking forward to that
game coming up. Of course, throughout the course of the week,
another important game for the Steelers with the Ravens closing
fast and the Broncos despite having the Bengals isspite having
lost two in a row, still you can't quite count
them out. If you're three and six in another division,
you're out of it. Three and six in the AFC

(34:50):
North this year, you're in it. That's our AFC recap,
presented by UPMC, the official healthcare provider and health plan
of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Should you I like to get
in on the conversation, we are open for your phone
calls and open to conversing with you at four one
two nine one nine one three one six. When we

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Com and we thank.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
You, Oh Max, Hey, Hey, I appreciate the backpedal.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
I appreciate the backpedal.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Hit the bell Lap.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Early lunch morning system in Gay. Sometimes you want to
jump the gun.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
When you're hungry and you just do.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
You want to get something tasty, just like Rob King
jumping in on that segment.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
Sometimes sometimes you're just You're just the eager beaver.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
You know what I'm saying. You just excited. I don't
blame you. I would love to get to the bell
Lap fast. I'd love to get to a buffet, but
I'll be I'll be chasing a flight because I'm still
here in LA and I got to get back home
after we get off the airwaves. But we're here, We're
still in the locker room and back to you, my
good friend.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
I made a tactical error last night. They had you know,
they feed you on your way out right and they
and they had cava, which is excellent.

Speaker 4 (36:38):
I love copa. I think it's excellent.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
But I heard rumor of in and out burger and
I didn't see any in and out burger.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
So I'm like, well, I'm gonna grab the kava and
then I ate it on the bus on my way
to the airports. And I have to lugging onto the
to the plane lug it. You know, it's a container.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
But they put it in the bag and everything, and
the in and out burger was at the airport. And
not only was it at the airport, they had a
little like a trap trailer like a kiosk. They're making
it on the spot. It wasn't like leftover burger. So
I feel like I let one slip away there last night.
Should have saved it for the interneut Borka.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
I mean, and and you know, and and Dan Dan
was sitting there preaching it.

Speaker 5 (37:16):
To us in the mooth last night.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
Hey hey, hey, hey, hey, you know hey, but I
thought downstairs.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Yeah, when I didn't see it downstairs, I got in
the kava line.

Speaker 5 (37:27):
Oh well, you don't remember he said it was going
to be at the airport.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Yeah, I missed that part. I missed that, just like
I missed it now in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
It's outside of the stadium before you get on the
book in Vegas exactly. But yeah, yeah, I guess here
it's it's it's the airport thing.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
When it comes to this, when it comes to those
kind of things, that's just a rookie mistake.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
What can you say?

Speaker 2 (37:50):
So we've opened up the phone lines at four one
two three, four one two nine six. This is something
that has been done in the past in the locker
room and something we're gonna do on Mondays at least.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
We'll we'll, you know, give.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
You maybe maybe a Wednesday or Friday week we wanted.
We're going through trial and their trying to figure out the.

Speaker 5 (38:11):
Right mix here.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
I think Friday, maybe we'll have our production meeting right
here on the front. I think if Friday makes sense
to get ready for the games, uh on the weekend.
But we we have Ricky in Georgia who's joining us. Ricky,
thanks for being with us in the locker room.

Speaker 8 (38:26):
Hey man, good to know how y'all doing today?

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Man, good, how are you Ricky?

Speaker 8 (38:31):
I'm not right, man, I ain't gonna make this, make
this kind of shows. We have got other people calling.
I don't want to say one time for Wolf and
one time missus day a lot of one time for them.
Know I missed some guys. I ain't really know them,
but hey, you know I miss him. But what I
want to say was, and then just coming out of
at the beginning of the season, we made out the

(38:52):
trades and stuff that stuff that we did, and I'll
see it come up to the season. Look at the schedule.
I just wonder at what game we was gonna face
adversity and how we're gonna rebound from that. And I
feel like this is a game where we have to
turn it around, and this is a game where we
had to stay in our face. Okay, we could be
we can be good on paper, but at some point

(39:13):
in time, like Matt I always say, when it come
to the edges, it's a matter of if, as a
matter of when. I just wonder, and I now see,
this is the time of the season where we're gonna
have to just pick it up and move forward. And
just thing is like, I don't think we can we
can go to a lord of what we already have
for last night. Honestly, I think we will. And I'm
not even mad about it because I said, we need

(39:35):
to learn more about our beds. What can we do
to bounce back when we can get out back against
the wall. Unfortunately we just come bounce back last night,
had a couple of states here and up and all
the overalls with a team as of things. So I
just want to know what shot and put on. How
can we move forward?

Speaker 2 (39:51):
So Ricky, but first of all, Max, you can handle
how we can move forward. Ricky, I think you're absolutely
right on. Right now, you're five and four. You know,
you had a really promising start to the season. It
looked like you had the division almost all but sewed up,
and you've lost three of your last four games, and yeah,
you're still in friends Aaron Rodgers said, hey, where's the

(40:12):
team right now? Well, we're in five and four and
we're still in first place in the division. But it
doesn't feel that way in a lot of regards Max,
And so I think Ricky's right on that you have
reached the point of adversity, the point in which you know,
hopefully it doesn't keep slipping away. You got to find
a way to turn it around and put the pieces
together and So how do you do that right now?

Speaker 5 (40:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (40:37):
I think and Ricky, once again, I want to thank
you for calling in. You've always been a loyal listener.
And I will say this, you did know Wolf and
you did know Dale. Even if you didn't meet them
in person, their personalities were there, so you did you
did know them as a true listener. But I think
when it comes to this team, I think I think

(40:57):
you actually hit it right on the head, Ricky. I mean,
you have to make a decision. There comes that fork
in the road where you got to decide am I
gonna go right? Am I gonna go left? And there's
always that seminal game that it comes to. And this
was one right because I mean we talked about it
when we were talking in the previous segment. You already

(41:18):
have proven you can go toe to toe with the
top teams in the AFC, because you've beaten the Colts.
The reason why they got two losses in that one,
it's because of the Steelers New.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
England and and for Indianapolis.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
But yet you have a frustrating loss to to the
and also the Seattle Seahawks, that's another team you went
to totoe with them.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
You lost, but that's that's.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
That's one of the class teams of the NFC as well.
They're they're they're on they're on their own tear of themselves.
So we've gone against some top teams here. But then,
like you said, you have a Cincinnati game, but that's
a division game, because we just saw what happened to
Jacksonville against the Texans, and so it's like, well, those
are division games. You can kind of chalk those off
of the list. Green Bay another good team as well

(42:01):
in the NFC North. That's a playoff team. That's good,
that's pushing for another playoff bid. This was the one.
This was one where like they're similarly matched, fit, physical,
tough minded coach just like Tomlin, and everything was.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
In place for you.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
The momentum was in your favor coming into this game
to have another breakout and see, hey, is it for
real or are we still figuring it out? And we
found out they're still figuring it out and they have
to figure out who they want to be. I think
defense is finally figuring out who they want to be
and they had a solid support, but the offense I

(42:40):
still is still in that kind of identity crisis.

Speaker 5 (42:42):
Phase.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
And yeah, you don't want to make a big deal
about an injury, but when you have an injury offensively,
and they haven't bowed the adversity that our defense has,
there's just been a sagnation there and not a consistency.
So now does it the player? You know, does the
players only meet? You have to now be the offensive
side because we've had the defensive one with Jalen Ramsey.

(43:05):
I don't think we're at that point, but I think
they have to step up and they have to they
have to figure this out. And like you said, this
this is that fork in the road moment for them
going into the second half of this season, because now
we're nine games in and like you said, seven games left,
and you know, this is a big moment for the Steelers.
So I completely agree with what.

Speaker 5 (43:24):
You're saying.

Speaker 8 (43:27):
And and and they're just they're just will't of a mess.
And I think we can't and we will turning around.
And I rather new lead it. And it's just me.
I'm looking at how look at last night. It's more
like they know they can do it, but I think
they're just doing too much to try to do it.
Just do what you can and it'll work. I don't mean,

(43:48):
I don't know if it's a mental thing or I
don't think it's a physical thing. So honestly, you had
been you had to be physical built to be in
the NFL. So I think they got that down more so,
can I trust you?

Speaker 5 (43:59):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (44:00):
I trust myself. Put it here and know, just don't
think about it. Through it. That's what I think it is.
So I get up the phone. Hey, thank y'all for
taking my call. I'ma be watching game every son and
I'm on y'all call on this on listening to y'all
on the radio too, So yes, I'm on that. So
thank y'all.

Speaker 4 (44:13):
Man, Ricky, thank you very much, appreciate your call.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
And you're right on. And you know where this feels
like a folk from moment for this dealers. Right, you
had a great start, you've lost you editor last four games,
and the schedule is it's tough. Just a quick run down,
scroll down the schedule. It's Bengals, Bears, Bills, Ravens, Dolphins, Lions,

(44:41):
Browns Ravens.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
You know you're gonna find out what you're made of, right,
and that's you know, you got the games in front
of you.

Speaker 4 (44:49):
That's the schedule. You're in first place right now.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
This is an opportunity for you to turn things around
and against some tough competition, show that you belong among
the better teams in the league, show that you belong
in the playoffs, show that you can hopefully get into
the playoffs and do some damage. It's right there, Max.
That's why you play the games. They'll let you know
where you are. They'll let you know who you are.

Speaker 5 (45:11):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (45:12):
Every week is a test of your metal, test of
your consistency, and a test of your resolve. And that's
what you love about this game, and that's what also
frustrates you about this game. But that's what also makes
this game beautiful, and that's why we are fans of it,
and that's why we follow it, and you know, we
can't wait to see what happens from week to week.

Speaker 5 (45:31):
You never know.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
It's the Forrest Gump, right.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know
what you're going to get.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
And that's what you hope you'd be able to predict
it a little bit better, but you can, and that's
why you kind of have to take things as they are,
and every week is a new challenge.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
It is, and so the Steelers will face that challenge
and we will face it with you as we get
you ready for the Steeers.

Speaker 4 (45:56):
Taking on the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
We want to thank you Justin Miller and our Ireheart
Studios at the Controls Max Starks in LA. Heading back
to Arizona. I'm Rob King, thanks for being with us
in the Locker Room, presented by you neighborhood Ford Stour
in the Steelers Pro Shop on Stuelards Nation Radio, a

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
