Speaker 1 (00:07):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wolfley and Max Stark's.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
All right back inside the locker room. And of course
it is the Power Hour. That's right, optimist passing on
by as he gets ready for the weekend as well.
We'll be right behind you, but we're about hour behind you,
but we'll catch up, no worries. But of course most

(00:50):
importantly we're going to catch up now with the director
of the Light of Life Rescue Ministry, Darrell Gilliam, And
hand off you.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Thank you, my friend, because I'm so so honored privileged
to bring on Darrell Gilliam, who again is the executive
director of Light of Life Rescue Mission doing the hands
and feet of Jesus stuff on the north side. You
can been there, jirell. How long have you been there?
How long has the mission been there?

Speaker 4 (01:19):
The mission started in nineteen fifty two, and so it's
been there for a long time. I've been in this
position as executive director. It's going on six years now
and I've been working here for about twelve years.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I'm so thankful you're able to come on board. The
plight of the homeless is something that was so big
and our good friend Tounch Jilkin. Tounch really loved the mission,
loved the mission of the mission and the fact that
you're pouring life into people who, as he used to say,
once you walk through the doors, your worldview is never

(02:00):
the same. And he truly was. He was very he
it was. He was right on with it, you know.
And I'm just and the mission's been doing this work
for a long long time now. You did something it's
called conversations on a benchance I thought was very unique.
And it was sitting outside in the cold during that

(02:20):
polar vortex. And you know the best part about it
was we were in there and we prayed with you
before went out there. And the first thing the guy says,
prayed for wisdom. I go, how can you pray for
wisdom when you're going outside zero? The green weather that's
already off the table?

Speaker 5 (02:36):
Man, tell us a little bit about it to the
next one. Yes, tell us a little bit about it.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Well, thank you, thank you. It was it was an
honor to be with you and great to be on
with with here and Max as well man. What a
Pittsburgh tradition in the locker room base. So thank you
again for bringing me in. Yeah, this was a light
of life is as I said, it has been here
since nineteen fifty two. But they are also a part

(03:05):
of an international network of rescue missions called Citygate Network,
and there's over three hundred and twenty rescue missions in
United States and Canada that are a part of that network.
I have the privilege of serving on the board of
directors for that organization, and so executive directors in that

(03:26):
network they'll share different ideas. And it started with a
with a mission down in North Carolina. Of course Knights
and Warm down there, but the executive director had this
idea of being out on a bench for twenty four
hours and just making himself available for conversations, and so

(03:47):
he tried it and it was wildly successful. Then another
mission cried it out in the Seattle area, and so
this past summer a few of us said that, you know,
we wanted to try it. Well, they recommended that we
try it on this day in January, and those of
us in the Northeast were laughing, including me. It was like,
no way, we're gonna do this, uh, you know up

(04:10):
and you know for you guys in the South and
in San Diego. But you know, we'll set this one out.
And then I told you about this Welter executive director
from up in Cleveland. Uh. She says, Oh, well, we're
gonna do it in Cleveland. We're hardy up here. You
mean Cleveland's gonna do it in Pittsburgh, isn't. And I said, oh,

(04:31):
it's on, gonna do better. And so then I told
my team and they're like, what what are we talking?
As soon as they heard Cleveland called us out, everybody
was in. And then you know what happened. Three days
before they pulled out on us. They pulled the lucy
in the football on us. Like yeah, but we we

(04:57):
have some believe me, in the next conference we definitely
you have some. Uh we have some plans for them
to remind them of what they do. We're gonna do
this again in October. We're gonna send them a box
of terrible towels to keep them warm up there because
you know, that temperature might might challenge them a little bit.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Oh oh no, I love that.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I love that, you know, and I just I think
you know another thing, if we could Drell just kind
of talk about some of the main programs that are
offered through Light of Life to kind of enlighten our audience,
just about the scope of services that you offer.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
Well, that's great. Let me back up below this to
hit the previous question and move forward if we even
got me off subject. Uh, but the idea of the
bench was was that let's try to have a national
conversation and and and provide opportunities for people to deal
with misnomers and stigma about homelessness. To have people who

(06:01):
are public officials and people of experiencing who have experienced
homelessness to come in and share their experience. And so
it's really about it wasn't about me staying on the bench.
I wasn't trying to say that I was experiencing homelessness
for twenty four hours. That would be an insult to
those who are actually out there. I said multiple times,

(06:23):
you know, I know where I'm going after this. I'll
be in my bed in a few hours. But a
person who's experiencing homelessness. Part of the trauma of it
is they don't know what's coming next. They don't know
when their next meal is coming, they don't know when
the next time they're going to be in a safe environment,
and that adds stress every day. And so I was

(06:44):
making it clear I was not trying to say that
I was experiencing it, but I was saying that this
topic is valuable enough to have twenty four hours where
we could talk about it, and we were just about full.
There is about a four hour block in the middle
of the I from about one point thirty was my
last call to about five thirty where there wasn't anyone

(07:06):
that signed up, and so so I had a little
break in the middle of that. I went inside for
a little bit. I think I slept for about an hour,
but jump right into the next interviews. I think it's
thirty five or five thirty in the morning. And so
it was it was a great opportunity to answer your question, Max.
One is to let people know what we do. A

(07:27):
lot of people still just think of Light of Life
as being either a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter
for men. And yeah, many years ago we began expanding
as the needs of homelessness changed in our city and
in our county. We realized that we needed more than
just a place, an emergency place for people to stay.

(07:48):
So we have now developed what we call a continuum
of care, and essentially we want to have an on
ramp for anyone who's experiencing housing and security. So it
goes from unsided spectrum, people who are living in tents,
under bridges. We have an outreach team. These people, many
of them will not come in. They will not come

(08:09):
in the services, will not come into a building, so
they don't even have the opportunityportunity to experience with punch.
We talk about being changed once they lock through our doors,
and so we realize, well, we're gonna have to start
going to them. So before the pandemic, we started an
outreach team and they spend time going out getting to
know people, bringing them small supplies. There's always this balance

(08:31):
between not wanting to enable people to be in a
dangerous environment, but at the same time being able to
meet some felt need. So we'll take some hygiene kits,
some water bottles, some basic things, some granola bars, but
will use it as an opportunity to build relationship and
to invite people to come into the facility. And then

(08:53):
from that you move into the Emergency Services building, which
is located at Betley is built about two and a
half years ago. We moved in rather and there we
have you just think of anything you need today. If
you need a warm place to stay right now, if
you're a man or a woman, you can come in there.
You can plug in charge your phone, be in a

(09:13):
warm environment. We are one of the warming shelters across
the county that participate in that, and you can do that.
If you need a place to stay. There's an emergency
shelter for men and for women where they can sleep
there and be with us. Is designed to be short timed,
like up to three months while you figure out what

(09:34):
the next steps are, but that is available. And then
we have extended programs for people who have jobs or
they're ready for jobs. They don't have any active addiction
to mental health issues, but they just need a place
to save money, get first months ran and move out.
So we have programs for that. And then we have
programs for people who say, you know what, I need

(09:56):
a longer term environment so they can be with us
up to two years. There's some with mental health program,
there's some for single women, there are some for men,
there's some for women with children, and some of those
are under our roofs. Some of those are in scattered
sites around our county. Some are in group home settings.
And then we have on the other side, which is

(10:16):
our alumni. So once you graduate, you never leave our family,
and so we have ongoing programs to help you stay
successful and clean out there. And part of our job
as well as to help people to prevent from becoming homeless.
And so we have a food pantry, we have a
donation center, and these are helping people who are the
working poor, and they've told us time and time again

(10:40):
that if it wasn't for these resources, they would not
be able to keep up with the rent and the utilities.
And so we know that now part of our job
is helping people from becoming homeless. And so that's a
quick overview of our continuum of care.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
A quick overview.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
You know, it's I love it. Just you know you've
had in tounch Ad for the you know, for the
rescue mission. Just it's a big thing. But you know,
one of the things that affected me most was when
in the the Voutley Street was.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
The room for the kids.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
I was on the second floor, you know, where a
mother can come in off the street if she's been
living in a car or whatever, homeless. And to be
on that Defcon four where you can never relax because
there's always some sort of threat possible around you. And
then to see the sanctity of that room where the

(11:35):
kids can play with toys and mom is there and
Mom's just a room away, and I just thought it
was tremendous. I love that aspect about light of life.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Well, we we're very proud of it. We took some
of the things again like talked about and you've talked
about and encouraged us, and we took it to another level.
And we partnered with a doctor, very smart doctor from
Florida State University that has developed this whole new line
of psychology. Really it's called a trauma informed building design.

(12:08):
So we consulted with her. She helped us design our buildings.
The colors, the layouts of the rooms all are designed
to communicate for the moment you step in there that
this is a safe place. And a lot of care
was given, of course to the place where women and
children are and we're just blessed to have that. And

(12:29):
when you see the kids and the moms come in
there and to see that this place is for them.
We have rooms set up that are set up like
hotel rooms. There are showers back there. They can be
there individually or single women. There could be three in
a room. We have one suite that can open up
and connect two rooms for larger families. And again from

(12:51):
being in a place where if they're in a tent
or a car, they're not sure who's going to come
up to the car in a minute. Now, to say, hey,
you're safe here, and for the kids to be able
to play, it's just a wonderful thing. There's a there's
a on the one of the channels. There's this on
the home network HV HGTV, that's what it's called. Uh,

(13:14):
there's a restoring the Forge. As you know, they're based
here in Pittsburgh and leam Fort was was touring our
facility early on and she offered to do some interior
designing to the rooms and we were just so blessed
to have her. And she came in and she she
warmed up the rooms, you know, with colors with lamps,

(13:36):
with duvets and you know all this stuff. I don't
know what this stuff is book, but you know, the
ladies do. I know they're happy to see it, but
it makes them feel like, hey, this is a safe
place and this is built for them.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
That is so wonderful.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Drill.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
If somebody wanted to volunteer at the mission, I know
that you have a volunteer program or wanted to contribute
to the program, how would they go about reach you?

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Well, the best place to start is online. So light
of Life dot org, Life of Life dot org and
you can go there. You'll see about a mission, You'll
see about our impacts, you'll see stories on there of
life transformation, and there's a place on how to get involved.
And under that is volunteer opportunities. Depending on what area

(14:25):
you want to volunteer in, there are some some of
that training can be done right there online. I'm going
to go through some courses and some if you're involved
with children or a women's program, additional clearances are needed
for that. But you can go right there and find
out what those opportunities are. But I always recommend for

(14:45):
people to come down and visit. Just you can contact
our Volunteer Experience, which Volunteer Experience at Light of Life
dot org is the email and they will get you
set up to come in for a tour and to
see where you where you fit. It's no longer just
coming in and putting massed potatoes on a plate. You

(15:06):
can you can be involved in any area of expertise
that you comp that you bring. You can help with mentoring,
you can help with children, you can help with serving
meals for sure, you can help with passing out clothing.
You can go out on outreach teams to tents and
and help bring love and hope there. So there's all
kinds of opportunities for people to.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Get involved, and that's why you are the executive director
of Light of Life.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
I love your brother.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Thank you for bringing bringing that that hope, that transformational
power of Jesus Christ to the homeless, giving them hope,
giving them an opportunity at a renewal of life. So
want to thank you for being on here so much.
I know Max, Max love what you know you were
talking about, and we appreciate you joining us here in
the locker room. Jirelle, thank you so very much.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Thank you, thank you, so much again and look to
seeing you again sometime.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
All right, brother, see you hopefully soon. All right, we'll
be back with Boor. We got the great Missy Matthews
coming up. The sideline queen right here in the locker
Room and the Steelers audio.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Shure, the official insurance and
Cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wolfley and Max Stark's.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Well, nobody's got better walk out music than the great
Queen of the sidelines, Missy Matthews, joining us for the
final time. Missy, did we get you? This is a
penultimate one?

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Right?

Speaker 6 (17:06):
I think next week? Right?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Oh, yes, that's okay, I got you know, I get
all discombobulated sometimes, so I was like get it.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yeah, you know, well you was.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
Just trying to get himself out of doing next week.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
So I'm sitting here just like, yeah, I blew it.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Man.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Sorry, Sorry, Missy should have been a little bit better
in tune with what's going on. But as usual, I've
managed to foray into that world of nothingness, like what
are we talking about here? So Missy, it's great to
have you. Thank you so very much. I know that
you were you were just dealing with a little school activity.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
Yes, I was volunteering for the hundredth day of school.
It was a mixture of kindergarten in first grade. So
I got my fix.

Speaker 7 (17:56):
Yeah, now she'svolunteering to help will get through the next
fifteen exactly.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Not much difference between where you came from and where
you're going, right, I mean.

Speaker 6 (18:09):
I don't think you'd break the colored pencils on purpose.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
That's true. That's true.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
But I probably at that age specially, I would.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Have eaten some.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah, but uh, Missy, you know kind of as we
as we are kind of wrapping up the week and
you know, Pro Bowl games are is, I can't even
like go through with it.

Speaker 5 (18:34):
Wolf, Missy, I can't even.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
The the the contest of professional football players or contests plural,
uh you know, kicked off last night. Russell Wilson had
the passing competition. So guys are participating. We had a
bunch of guys kind of uh you know, be added
to those rosters for the AFC, and y know, Russ

(19:01):
came out there, looked really good. He looked really good
and you know, trying trying to trying to keep showcasing, uh,
the youthfulness of him. You know what, what did you
think about, uh, you know, Russ and just kind of,
you know, your general thoughts about this event because I'm
not gonna call it a game. It was very far

(19:23):
from a game. But but this event around the Pro Bowl.

Speaker 6 (19:26):
Activities, Yeah, I mean, I think it's gotten a little
weird for my liking. I didn't sit there really last
night and watched a ton you know, when finally got
done with hockey and putting people to bed, I did
kind of turn them on. But it's so weird. It's
so different, and I know they're trying to do whatever
they can, especially with the younger kids. I'm sure if

(19:49):
my boys like sat down and watched it, they would
think it was funny, especially some of the stuff like
the wide receivers were doing. They're big fans of Justin Jefferson.
But it's just very different. And like you said, there's
just so many replacements, it feels like these days, and
I get it, there's an extra game. So you know,
if your body's not feeling great, why would you go

(20:11):
put it through something you don't need to after your
season is over? And then I think it's also too
you know, your team didn't make it to where they
wanted to, So then you have the decision do I
go because I earned it, or you know, not go?
But I did enjoy you know, seeing like Chris bos
while playing dodgeball, killbrew what do you catch like six footballs?

(20:32):
There's things that I'm okay with, But it just it
does feel very different then I guess what it used
to be.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
You know, I have to laugh miss it just because
you said it's gotten a little weird.

Speaker 6 (20:45):
I don't know el's to explain it.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
I know it's a perfect it's a perfect way to
explain it.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
You don't need to describe it.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
It just really it has gotten a little weird.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
I mean you look around and you see you got
Miles gar stand up there doing a trivia questions, then
five in a row. What's that got to do with
the other.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (21:09):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I guess it is what
it is. They're clearly getting people to go to it.
I'm sure they're making it worthwhile for the players, and
you're also getting a chance to take your family to Orlando.
So if you have kids, I mean Max is a
Disney guy, that's like a no brainer, you know. So
I get it to a point, but it's it's different.

(21:33):
It's different than what it used to be.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Yeah, and even better, you know. I mean, as a
guy who's well versed in all things in Orlando. If
you're not a Disney guy and you're more of a
roller coaster junkie, then there's Universal Studios there. Yeah, for everybody,
for family. You know, the Hulk Ride, the King Kong Ride. Oh,

(21:58):
the Velosic Coaster, that one, if you're talking about if
you like roller coasters, that might be the best roller
coaster in all the United States. Sorry, San Dust one point. Yeah,
it's a newer one. It's about four years old. But
it's like one of the fastest coasters in the US.
I mean, you get shot out of rocket, you start,

(22:21):
you start quick, fast, in a hurry, and and it is.
It is an absolute gym. I remember when I took
the girls, the girls were like scared out of their minds.
They wouldn't do it, no way, no how and I
finally convinced one of them to go on with me
because we had to do the child swap. And after
that she told her sister and then now they're both addicted.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
So there you go, you know.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
So, yeah, so there's something for everybody in Orlando. I mean,
it's the perfect place if you're trying to be family
and kid friendly and family conducive.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
It's the best location.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
I mean, it's better than Hawaii from that perspective, just
because of the different entertainment value that you have out
there in the wide range of it. So and they
roll out the red carpet for hospitality out there in
Orlando for that event, you know. So I would say
it should be a permanent location. The weather is predictable

(23:19):
and consistent like you, like I said earlier, with the
amenities and different things, and then the shopping for you know,
for those that are inclined to do that, there's a
lot of premium outlet malls or the premium mall. I mean,
there's so many different different ways you could attack it
and make a trip out of it for that week

(23:40):
and really kind of have the players enjoy, engage or disengage,
depending on how your family looks at it, uh, you know,
from from the real world a little bit.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
So I like that aspect of it.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
I think, you know, it's something that for a city
that really wanted to be involved in the National Football League,
this is a good fun way without having to bring
an expansion team or you know, expand the league more,
you know, to get into that market because there's a
lot of untapped potential. But talking about untapped potential, Missy

(24:18):
full disclosure. Just as you are a hockey mom, I'm
now a coach dad in softball, So I can appreciate
responsibilities and I appreciate time you're taking away from that,
says they This is the boys are in school, just
like my girls are in school right now, and there's
a there's a reprieve. But you know, as you kind

(24:40):
of wind down, like for the off season so to speak,
or business of football season, I guess is what I.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Like to dub it.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Where are some of your focuses as you kind of
get a little bit further along in this off season,
Like what are you hoping or looking forward to seeing
what the Steelers will do?

Speaker 5 (25:02):
Are there any.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Key like signings, who gets brought back, you know, anything
along those lines or other that I did the list.

Speaker 6 (25:12):
Well, I think the clear and obvious one is who's
going to be the quarterback? And you I don't think
you can wait till the drafts when you have nobody
under contract in your room other than Skyler Thompson who's
on a reserve futures deal that he signed just you know,
after the Steelers season had ended. I do think that's
the big one. I know, mister Rooney had spoke earlier

(25:34):
this week, you know, to some of the main reporters
and through different people as well throughout the week, so
I've kind of been watching that to see and hear
different things. Of course, a lot of the same questions
are asked, maybe in different ways, of just how he
views the disappointing end to the season. And it's, you know,
every time he talks after the season, he says something

(25:55):
and that's what he wants changed or done differently or whatever.
You know, a few years past, it was we need
to run the ball more effectively, and all of a
sudden in the first round they select na Gie Harris.
It carries weight clearly what he says after a season,
and I think it was pretty clear that they are
not going to bring back both Russell Wilson and Justin Field.

(26:19):
But I do feel like they're going to have to
sign or try to sign one of them or someone
else through free agency because you can't wait until the
draft to see what happens or how things fall. You
don't want this to turn into the situation that it
did with adding a wide receiver, where we were hopeful
it was going to have during training camp. It didn't

(26:40):
get into the regular season, die down a little bit.
Then you get to the trade deadline. Of course, they
added Mike Williams, but I don't think that was the
big fish that they were clearly going after from the beginning.
And then you saw George Pickens get hurt, miss three games,
and you know, kind of the collapse of the Steelers
offense through the last five. So I think quarterback, for sure,

(27:03):
I want to know who is the guy that they
think can start or will start, depending on what else
they do. But it's you know, it's very Unsteelers like
to have to rebuild the quarterback room completely two years
in a row. That's something we're not used to seeing.
So I think that will tell us a lot in
terms of how other things will fall in place. But

(27:24):
then I think it's some of the free agents, like
a Landed Roberts, that's somebody I would like to come back.
And then there's others where you say that that doesn't
really make sense and they need to figure things out.
So you know, it's still early. Obviously, the Steelers can
deal with people that are currently on their roster until
March twelfth or fourteenth, whatever day free agency starts. So

(27:47):
I think that in just you know, getting to know
some of the upcoming draftees through Senior Bowl, East West
Shrine Bowl, just the different interviews and interactions. Coach tomlin
is very visible obviously down and mobile. I don't think
it's a secret they're looking at the d lineman in
this year's upcoming draft. So I think it's just trying
to figure out the inner workings of how the puzzle

(28:10):
is being put together and waiting for different chips to
fall to kind of maybe see the big picture of
what they're hoping happens.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
You know that various student observation there, especially about the
land and Roberts Missy, I just I think you need
him to come back. I think he's one of those
guys that does such a great job, But it seems
to me all the arrow seem to be pointing towards
Justin fields. The comments that I hear from mister Rooney.

Speaker 6 (28:37):
Yeah, I mean, and I think you know, it's not
a secret they've talked about Coach Tumlin and mister Rooney
that is the past few years, even after Ben of
a mobile quarterback, and I do think that obviously that
fits more of what Justin brings to the game. And
I think they saw clearly the plan was not to
start him Week one in Atlanta, but I think having

(29:00):
a full off season, OTA's mini camp, training camp, working
with a Steelers staff with some really I feel like
high pedigree offensive coaches who really helped turn him around
from where he was in Chicago. As he said, his
third offensive coordinator in four years. That's kind of crazy
when you think about it, and you know, being thrown

(29:23):
into the fire per se as they're you know, supposed
to be franchise guy. Obviously that didn't work out, and
I think for the Steelers they got to take a
look at him longer than they probably anticipated they did,
going four and two in his six starts, but just
how he was able to clean up a lot of
the things that were plaguing him. So I do think

(29:44):
you still have Arthur Smith, He's familiar with him. To me,
that one makes sense. But I don't think they're ruling
out either, because you don't know what's going to happen
in terms of their side of the business. Is justin
Field's going to get more looks because of what he
was able to do in Pittsburgh in a you know,
small sample size of six games, or what is Russ

(30:07):
looking for? Russ made it very clear on the Pat
mcafe show he wants to come back to Pittsburgh, but
Pete Carroll gets the job in Las Vegas. So you know,
there's just so many different things that go into it.
I think obviously salary CAP's going to come into it.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
T J.

Speaker 6 (30:22):
Watt is going to be one of those guys that
you're gonna want to get hit his deal done prior
to week one, So it will be interesting to see
what paths they go down, because again it's not necessarily
their choice. They can have as target. But I think
mister Ruey said it this week like it takes two
to tango.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
No, it absolutely does, and it's gonna be interesting to
watch as that unfolds, and like you said, you know this,
this is this, this is an intent. Russ wants to
be back here. He's made his intentions clear. But unfortunately,
you know, with great honors, great price tags and Russell
Wilson's pro bowler again and as we witnessed, you know,

(31:06):
still flinging the ball around. So I think he still
sees himself as a starter. But it will be interesting
to see how we lead up, you know, moving up
to the point.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Last thing for me, missy, Uh weekend plans. I gotta ask,
I gotta ask, what do you what do you got
on tap for this weekend?

Speaker 6 (31:25):
The same as always? Hoops and hockey. Uh, you know
one one boy's playing in Youngstown. One's playing ten minutes
from the house. I'm lucky I get the closer one.
So you know, my husband coaches, so he sometimes pours
pulls the short straw. But no, I I love hockey.

(31:46):
I love watching them play hockey. It's you know, one
is six and at the lowest level and it's cute
and you know they don't really know what they're doing
and they start passing and you're you're just kind of
like laughing at them falling all over the place, and
then the big one started, and you so that's full
lice and five on five and there's not checking, but
sometimes there is. So it's a very different mental state

(32:08):
I have to be in to watch each of them.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
Let me ask you this, if you experienced the crazy
hockey moms and dads.

Speaker 6 (32:17):
Oh well, if don't get me started, I mean I could.
I could fill your show for the next week talking
about crazy hockey parents.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
Oh, Missy, you and I gotta have a conversation because
I went through this with my son Kyle Jacob, you know,
and they're wild.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
Hockey is wild. It is wild.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
It is it is And I matter of fact, after
a point of time, I took to sitting in another
part of the grand stand because they were so obnoxious.
I didn't even want to be a part of them.
For people to see that I was sitting with these
people that were just being so obnoxious to the other team,
just ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
Yeah. I like to stand by the boards, like by
the dads that stand, you know, that's always safer. It
feels like it's kind of like standing by Max on
the sideline. I feel liked and pretending.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
There you go absolutely, there we go, no road bucks. Well, missy,
thank you so very much for joining us today. We
appreciate you as always. Thanks for jumping in, even though
it was traumatizing having.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
To deal with all the young kids this morning.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
But get some rest.

Speaker 6 (33:20):
You guys are way easier, way easier.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Yeah, there we go, There we go easier the young kids.
There we got. She didn't really say that we were more,
but sure though, were all right, Missy. Well, thank you
so much. We appreciate it, appreciate you.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
Miss all Right, we're going on.

Speaker 6 (33:40):
You guys have a good weekend.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
We'll see you have a good weekend. All right, it's
the locker room. He will be back with more. As
Max winds it up here the possession arrow goes his way.
You're listening to the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wolfley and Max Stark's.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Alrighty back inside of the locker room and it is
the bell Lap early lunch warning system and gaged. That's right.
We are barreling in towards the weekend. It is fryyay

(34:57):
is the last day of the work weeks, so speak
before we get on with the weekend activities.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Saturday and Sunday.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
We have the Pro Bowl skills you know that went
on last night. We'll have the game on Sunday. Senior
Bowl will be on Saturday. So I mean we have
we have we have football players on television? Can we
can we say it that way? Is that the appropriate

(35:25):
way of saying it?

Speaker 5 (35:26):
Wolf? Yeah, that would be.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Football players on television, uh, doing non full padded football stuff,
participation stuff, you know, yes, hi, participation stuff with it.
And you know, obviously everything is gearing up to our
Super Bowl next week, which I'll.

Speaker 5 (35:48):
Remind our listeners.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
I will be live in New Orleans, UH next week
for the Locker Room Show. Not be on air Monday,
but I will be on the rest of the week
to put a pin. And you know, in the cap
of this show.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
Where are you going to stay down there? So I
just I just got my room. I'm stay at the
Renaissance now. Now, now, where is the Renaissance. I have
no clue. Is it by the skating rink.

Speaker 7 (36:17):
It's the medieval fair that's out of the state grounds,
the Renaissance, that's right.

Speaker 5 (36:23):
A Renaissance fair.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Well, you could get turkey leggs with We are cashless environments,
so it will be uh, it will be card swipe
only because the old card swiper machine was very prevalent
in medieval England. True story.

Speaker 7 (36:38):
Two weeks from tomorrow, I am going to a medieval
times Are you really?

Speaker 5 (36:43):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Two weeks from tomorrow? Oh?

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Where at?

Speaker 5 (36:46):
Where at?

Speaker 7 (36:47):
The one outside of Baltimore?

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Okay, those are fun I have not been to one.

Speaker 7 (36:53):
I went one other time, but I was like twelve
years old, so I'm it's funny. But I'm like, I'm
twelve years old on the inside again I'm looking.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
For I don't know, you don't look that far from twelve.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
But hey, actually that's a compliment.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
It really is, gentlemen.

Speaker 7 (37:06):
A couple of weeks ago, I bought two bottles of
wine and did not get carted, and I sat there
and thought about it the whole rest of the night.
I was like, am I losing my fastball?

Speaker 2 (37:14):
That's going on?

Speaker 5 (37:16):
That's right?

Speaker 2 (37:17):
You've come down to mere mortal land Woolf Wes with
the rest of us. But uh, you know, the funny
thing is, so we actually have a Medieval times literally
across the street from my kids school.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Oh nice, Phoenix, likely I've been down in Phoenix.

Speaker 7 (37:34):
Yeah, here so we can see it.

Speaker 5 (37:37):
Oh that's right.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Yeah, so it's so literally, it's it's right that the
buildings across the street from there, the opposite side of
the road, that's my daughter's school.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
No kidding, I didn't realize we were that close when
we were down there.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Yep, yep, that's not far at all. Yeah, about fifteen
minutes from the crib. So so yeah, so Wes, please
enjoy the things that Wolf and I have been delighted
with from a you know, medieval historical sense.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
You will have a good time.

Speaker 7 (38:05):
Looking that looks that's a fancy drawbridge entrance. You got
there in Arizona, I tell.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
You, look, yeah, exactly. Yeah, they got to go for
the Green Knight though Green Knight's my guy, say, just
not sure what the colored choices are.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
There's a side room before you go in into the stadium,
so it gives you cool Yeah, we got all kinds
of stuff there man, But.

Speaker 7 (38:27):
I may or may not have paid like seventeen dollars
to get us the royal upgrade.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
That comes right there, pip seating.

Speaker 7 (38:36):
A and a banner that you can wave the cheer
on your nights.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Dilly dilly, dilly, Dilly, dilly dillyd You know. I mean,
we we got all of this, we got all the
good stuff. But no that that'll be fun, man, that'll
be fun. Obviously we're coming back next week, but you
know after next week.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
We will be in the ether.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yes, I do want to ask this question as you
guys think about it, since we will now be returning
to civilian like life, Wes, you will not because you'll
still have to do the blitz.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
Hey two days, two days a week. Maybe I'll take it.
It's gonna feel like it's gonna feel like it's gonna
feel like spring break, college, college vacation. I don't know
an entire summer break, baby.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah, exactly, any trips playing for anybody.

Speaker 5 (39:24):
Nothing in the woofly household yet.

Speaker 7 (39:28):
Wife and I are going to Vegas at the end
of March and then family vacation to Hilton Head in July.

Speaker 5 (39:37):
Got it, got it, got it?

Speaker 2 (39:39):
I got volleyball tournaments, so I got to go to
Kansas City the week after Super But well, I take
that back.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
My wife is going to go.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
I'm not going to go because I refused because I'm like,
I don't want to be stuck in post potential parade
activities in that city, even though I do love the barbecue.
We'll be back there for Nash Knowles in June, but
uh yeah, I mean daughter's in a Salt Lake City
tournament and then I'll have to take her to the

(40:10):
Cosmosphere for her middle school academic trip in Hutchinson, Kansas,
dav you know this place existed, but we'll have to
go there, and then I'll do my I do my
football games by twentieth anniversary of my annual football camp
down in Orlando.

Speaker 5 (40:29):
So I'll begin June Father's Day weekend.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Now I appreciate it, guys. Yeah, a lot of domestic travel,
you know, with and without the family, but primarily because
of the family. No no big trips, no big international
trips for us this year because of the girls volleyball schedules.
And they're both on volleyball schedules. So so yeah, so this.

Speaker 7 (40:54):
Year announced, well if I'm just saying.

Speaker 5 (41:01):
Yeah, just saying that.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
But that is a fall trip, sir. This is an
office summer trip or a spring and break.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
The year of our Lord twenty five.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
Dilly, it's correct, Dilly, Dilly, you're the snake, Dilly dilly. Uh,
you know. But but it's gonna be fun. And of course,
you know, we'll all be on social media, uh you know,
talk about different things. So just make sure you continue
to follow and watch over all of us as we
as we embark. But we will be bringing you, of

(41:32):
course all the Steelers action.

Speaker 5 (41:34):
Uh you know.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Obviously, Wes and I will be down at at at
the Combine as well, so you'll you will hear sn
R live from the Combine Indianapolis. I'll be I'll be
at owners meetings. We'll be conducting some interviews obviously, you know,
General manager Omar Kahan is one of the guys. I'll

(41:57):
be interviewing mister Rooney at Rooney Team Owner, get his interview.

Speaker 5 (42:03):
Of course, Mike t.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
Make sure you stand talk straight, all right, stand up
straight when you're interviewing.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Those We're seated, So how am I supposed to stand
up straight?

Speaker 5 (42:10):
If? If that's sorry, don't slatch, don't slotch.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
Yeah, well, hey, I am going to conform to whatever
the camera guy tells me to make sure that I
don't look awkwardly, you know tall in in the interview.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
Do you do you ever see the that that commercial
with the answer they say we got answer and Jony
and all the.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
Oh my god, expired expired, expired, exact exactly exactly. It's like, hey, hey, hey,
tell you you haven't accepted my Facebook request yet.

Speaker 5 (42:46):
Oh yeah, no, I definitely have to get on top
of that.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
Or the other one, you know when she comes in
and goes, you're slouching ted, you.

Speaker 5 (42:55):
Slouch it ted? Oh my gosh. Yeah, the ant I
mean those.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
Commercials, like the ants. What was it? What was the one?
What was it? It was like, we got a roadent
problem in the basement. It was the band or something
I forgot Oh man.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
I can't remember what that was. Yeah, oh was it?
Was it Rat with the rock band Rat?

Speaker 5 (43:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (43:21):
I think it was Rat. Yeah yeah, yeah it was Rat. Yeah,
we got a Rat problem. We got a Rat problem?

Speaker 5 (43:26):
Yeah, that rock Rat? Oh yeah? Yeah, Oh my gosh. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
So I mean, you know, like those type of things,
I mean, those those are just priceless man, those get
me every time. But uh but yeah, no, I mean,
so what what? But just to put a bow on it,
we will be still around in this universe. Even though
next week will be our last week. We will still
be bringing you high quality Steelers content and keeping you

(43:53):
up to date in the business of football season, especially
you know, everything leading up to the dre Aft and
then of course, you know, after the draft, I'm sure
we'll have a couple of different special especially you know,
entering the new rookie class, new free agents that will
be joining the team from March and beyond and uh,

(44:14):
and then we'll be right back at it, so before
you know it, we'll be back in football action here
uh in Pittsburgh. And that that's always the fun part
is seeing who the new additions are, who the new
you know, recruits are, so to speak, the rook class
and everybody of course, you know, getting on the path

(44:35):
to becoming a team because you will be ninety five individuals.

Speaker 5 (44:39):
There are prospects for.

Speaker 2 (44:42):
The Steelers, but you know, we will wheel that down
of course until we get to the regular seasons. So
it's gonna be fun to keep keep an eye on
all of those things, but most importantly, this is the
end of the show. We'll be back with you Monday
inside the locker room, you know, saying betch you on the
same bat time, but for Craig Wolfley and Wesley Euler

(45:05):
on Max Starks, and of course the said saying CJ,
we all wish you well, but most importantly forage good,
which means eat good, sleep good. And of course, hey
go make it a great weekend. We'll talk to you
next week.
