During a conversation at The Reparations Club, I spoke to Victoria Monét about her debut children’s book, motherhood, and chasing her dreams. Victoria discussed the difficult moments of separation that inspired “Everywhere You Are.” From her daughter's stay in the NICU to her first day of school, Victoria realized there wasn't a market for explaining similar periods of distance to children. She drew on her incredible songwriting ability and childhood memories of living in a starlit neighborhood to write the book she and her daughter needed. The pair collaborated on this project, much like their Grammy nominated “Hollywood.”
Victoria explained how she ensures that her daughter feels loved despite her busy schedule. She shared their routine with us, which includes listening to calming frequencies and learning positive affirmations. Hazel has repeated these affirmations outside of Victoria’s presence, so she is confident that these reminders are taking root. Our discussion revealed Victoria's deep commitment to fostering Hazel’s sense of independence. She hopes that by communicating the importance of traveling to chase her dreams, Hazel will be inspired to chase hers with confidence.

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
