Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's crack on straight into it and talk bowls. Rod
Leach board where our bowls Wellington board member with us
in the studio.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Morny rod Hell, I am good to be back.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Thanks for coming back in and into club. We're certainly
getting some trends now, aren't we give us an update
of where things sit heading into this weekend's rounds.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yep, good as goal we've had. We've completed four rounds now,
so we're we're beyond halfway. The ladies tables starting to
look tad one side with John's will stretching out to
sixty eight points, followed by silver Stream on fifty four,
tar Wor fifty three and Stokes Valley round out the
top four now with Johnsonvill beat in the last week
they've dropped into fourth from second on fifty one, plummeted
(00:36):
also on fifty one, nine I forty nine, Victoria forty six,
Miramar twenty one, Tony Central and Hot sixteen and fifteen.
So you know, from seventh up is still anyone's to
make that top four. But yeah, tomorrow play up an
important part. We've got the draw of the ladies with
Stokes Valley playing plymouton you would think that Stokes Valley
(00:59):
to get themselves back the hunt and playing a team
that's on the same points, I'd want to win that
and I think they should. John's will play Victoria. You'd
have to think that John's will be too strong. Tony
Central Mirrimar PA. Tony Central seems to be the team
that's doing a wee bit better than well. They're in
a bout of par with Mirramar. But I'll pick Central
to win that, silver Stream to beat nine I, which
is Silverstream higher up on the table, but only just
(01:20):
if nine I want to get back in the fur
they need to win. I think Silverstream will do it,
and Taro to beat Hut.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Okay, there are the predictions. We'll see how that pans
out today. What about over in the men's Over.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
The men's that's still Stokes Valley that have quite a
demanding lead. They're on seventy two, followed by John's fall
on fifty five, Plymoton fifty nine, I forty four, Miramar
forty three, Hut forty three, but Tony Central forty, Victoria
thirty eight, Tar with thirty seven and twenty two. Victoria
need to get there to move on if they want
(01:51):
to make that four, but they're still not that far
out of only six points away from fourth spot, so
they are a big chants. The draw for tomorrow Stokes
Valley take on nine I now Robbie Byrd currently just
want to put a call out to him. He's currently
in hut Hospital going through some issues, but we wish
him a speedy recovery. All the team from bods Wellington
and all the bowlers out there. So Stokes Valley played
(02:11):
nine zero without Robbie. I think Stokes Valley would would
win that game. Platoni Central taking on Victoria. I've gone
to Tony Central only because Steve Dipford Pakisada. I didn't
Mirramar Johnsville. Now I got a call midwek from a
Mirrimar lad that hasn't been too happy with my picks.
I said, I've put a plug in for them and
I'll picked them to beat John's Ford, so that might
give John's Wall the stirrup they need as well.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
You'll we shouted out in the clubs things.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Sorry at me tonight, Tawa Heart, I've gone for Tawara
in that and plummeted to beat Why now we.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
All right there? We go. You're always controversial making picks
on this show, Rob, but say as I'm sure you've
figured out around the trap and open pairs beginning next week.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Forty eight teams, which is same turnout as last year,
which is good. It wasn't going backwards. It would have
been nice to have seen more, but same turnout as
last year. Brent Stubbins and Peter Small back and again
though last year's winners. They'll be tough again. Strong from
Martin Burra with Gary Murowuy and Mark O'Brien and the
girls team there from Johnsville with Paula Meredith and Maroney Davis.
They'll have a good go with a few of them too.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Okay, great, looking forward to covering that maybe next weekend
and entries for another tournament is that the fours.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well into and open fours are closing off on Monday. Now.
Last year we had combined entries of seventy four teams,
this stage was sitting at fifty, so we're back a
wee bit on that. So but you've still got a
da or two to get your entries in and be
great to see a lot more teams in it.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Great and Blake Signal General Manager of bowls. Wellington involved
in some international bowls at the moment he is.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Indeed he's in Hong Kong with Aidan Takearell and Natasha
Russell's over there with Sarah Scott. Yeah, big chance for
these boys put their hand up now with selections being
made soon, I would think for Comwealth Games going forward
and putting teams together.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Great all right, and back locally midweek Penance got some
results there.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, men didn't have any play this week because the
Ladies New Zealand Charter clubs were on so they were
using some of the greens, So the men didn't have
their competition this week, but the ladies. I've now got
an update on the ladies torn it after four rounds
Plymoton have certainly shot the gap and that they're on
thirty one Miramar nineteen, Victoria eighteen, Patny Central eighteen nine
Oh sixteen, Island Bay fifteen, Tawa fifteen, Up Heart eleven,
(04:14):
John's fall nine and one New he yet to score. Yeah,
it's certainly one side in that competition. They play it
like I said it to a wee bit different. They
play a couple of games a day and have eight
points for a win. So it's a wee bit of
a different scoring system. Someone's going to do some beating
of Plymbton to get them out of the running.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yes, sounds like it all right. Great update as always, Rod,
appreciate that you have a wonderful weekend and all chat
Neck Saturday sounds good.
