The largest golf club in Canterbury is not a traditional club. 

Simon Ruri is the ‘head honcho’ of the Christchurch Hackers Golf Group, a Facebook-based group of keen golfers with more than 1,500 members.  

They stage a golf tournament once a month at various venues, and Ruri joined Lesley Murdoch for a chat about the club and its workings, in association with the Elmwood Trading Company.

Cooper Moore's clawed his way from five shots back to claim victory at a prestigious junior golf event in Hong Kong. 

He's been crowned the Asia-Pacific boys champion after making four back nine birdies to finish two clear of the field at nine-under-par.

Sports medicine Dr and pioneering figure in the sport of triathlon has been inducted as a Legend of Canterbury Sport at the Sport Canterbury annual awards night.

Prop Tanner Stowers-Smith became the latest of the One New Zealand Warriors’ home-grown new breed to debut in the Round 11 NRL match against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium over the weekend.

A product of the Halswell Hornets and St. Bede’s College, Stowers-Smith excelled in both rugby league and rugby union as a schoolboy but opted for rugby league after finishing his schooling.

Supercars coming to Christchurch.

Long time Canterbury Car Club member Lindsay Kerr, author, commentator and all round good guy spoke with Lesley about the announcement during the week that the phenomenally popular Supercars is coming to Christchurch to race around Ruapuna from 2026.

It means a lot of work is required to get the track up to speed from a safety perspective but Kerr has no doubt it will be done well in time.

The Weedons Golf Club is a fixture in the Selwyn District and with 669 members it’s one of Canterbury’s biggest.

Jonathan Stieller is the man that looks after the Weedons Golf Club, he runs the day to day operations for the golf club, as well as being one of the districts top golfers.

The Crusaders claimed victory over the Waratahs Friday night, beating them 48-33 in Sydney. 

It was a potentially sticky game for the Crusaders, however a powerful first half meant the ‘Tahs were left chasing the game.

The Everglades Country Golf Club is a 9-hole course, established in 1967.

This week Lesley Murdoch spoke with Jack Oldridge, President of the Kaiapoi Golf Club. 

It was established in 1907 – a compact but pleasant course a short 20 minutes drive from Christchurch.  

Kaiapoi has produced some golf notables including the 'Godfather' of Canterbury golf, Tom Whittaker, and more recently Amelia Garvey, a junior product of the club.
